Sketches from May (and a doodle comic from today)

These are some rough sketches for what their bursts looked like in childhood, teen years, and college. Ingo evolved to Chandelure after college so that's why he's not on there. Also woke up this morning with a vision of them having this conversation so I drew a quick thing of it.

Minor design thing but I think my favourite goof with burst is that it's just gonna change any clothes they're wearing, like Emmet will turn all his shirts and pants fluffy and Ingo is perpetually stuck in some kind of formal wear. Also how Emmet's eyebrows just get replaced by the other set of eyes.

Anyways, I'll see to sketching up a lore post sometime soon, in the meantime hope you like the art and have a good day :)

Diamond Crossing

So, here’s the thing. Elesa’s best friend is a little…weird.

She means it in the nicest way possible. But there’s no getting around the fact that Coop is weird.

Their mood swings are all over the place, very serious at one moment and unhinged child at the next. They sprouted train facts at the drop of the hat, insisted on not only being in charge of Gear Station but taking it a step further and turning Gear Station into the Battle Subway. They’re honestly crazy for that alone.

Elesa does her modeling career on top of being a Gym Leader and a lot of people think she’s crazy. She will argue that it’s nothing compared to Coop running the entire transportation system for Nimbasa City on top of being a Battle Facility.

She adores Coop though. She really means it when she says Coop is her best friend. And no matter how crazy Coop comes across as, she knows Coop won't hurt anyone.

("Well, there are exceptions, of course," Coop says, tone serious and expression set to a frown. "We don’t allow unruly passengers for starters." They then smiled, brightening. "And anyone who makes Elesa cry will be tied to the train track and run over." )

So right, Coop, a little crazy but Elesa adores them to pieces.

Then Coop went missing one day.

And instead of grief at the disappearance of her best friend, Elesa feels fear.

Fear for the world.

Because Coop is now a train off its tracks, speeding full steam ahead.

Random idea based on a thing I've seen/found on Tumblr:

Submas Gem AU

Not, like, a full-on Steven Universe au, but the subway bros having or coming into contact with something that lets them have gem powers. Like fusion!

Maybe some crazy gem was making a thing to make more gem-hybrids like Steven bc of how "powerful" they seem to be and some of their shit gets sucked up by an Ultra Wormhole and dumped in The subway for the brothers to find.

Or maybe one gets gemified and then fused with the other and they're secretly running around trying to fix it without drawing attention to the fact that something is wrong.

Or they were runaways from the gem empire due to being off-color and ended up in poke-verse due to time-space/wormhole shenanigans.

My only thoughts for the specific gem for them is Snowflake Obsidian (since it's both black and white).

(Look, Steven Universe has a very cool and deeply emotional story, but I'm more interested in the gems and their powers. And I have no desire to get tangled up in Diamond politics when I just want to play with cool powers and fusion stuff.)

(No further thoughts at the moment, but that may change later once this thought/idea has had more time to take root in my brain.)

Apologies for dying!!! Got hit with art block + illness so I couldn't finish Emmet Month 😔

Anyways here's a design update for Burst AU. Finally figured out what to do with Ingo's wings and coat! Top drawing is a concept sketch for general appearance, bottom sketch is basic reference for the wings/coat (I cropped the coat so the wings were more visible but it will likely still be full length).

Verrry happy with the final result, gotta say my favourite part is that the wings look like Ingo's long coat when folded. Also the coat itself is mostly just draped; the seams are open so it just slots over top of the wings (also partially held in place by straps). All that's left is to figure out the hat ^^

Submas x Steven Universe idea - Ingo and Emmet were originally one gem before some shit happened, causing them to split into two gems. What happened to them? Was is the diamonds or someone else?

This is based on Ingo usually being the talker of the two due to Emmets monotone voice and his 'say it as it is' attitude, and Emmet being seen as the twin thats more approachable due to Ingos lack of facial expressions. Two halves of a whole situation basically.

i just had the idea of mixing kamen rider ghost (a show i've never watched) and submas together. anyways, emmet in kamen rider ghost but with some type of twist.

so from what i understand, eyecons contain the spirits of people and the ones in ghost contained the spirits of important figures. doesn't that give the possibility for some of them to not be human? could the ones with inhuman spirits fuse with the human ones? well that's what's gonna happen in this au.

kamen rider kudari: where a distortion kills emmet when it opens where he's standing and his ghost fuses with an eyecon that contains the spirit of an amnesiac kitsune. through the power of them fusing and pokemon fuckery, they're able to make their own body and use ghostly powers. emmet classifies themselves as a ghost/normal type.
