I’m pretty sure I recognize the airship theme as also being the Bowser level theme from Mario 64!

I was playing Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 on my Wii U and I discovered this cool feature you can do with the hammer suit when you defeat a boss and the wand comes down. If you throw hammers at the wand you can make it float back to the top. I never knew this 🤔😲🤩🪄✨

I’m now playing Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 (a mouthful, I know) on the Virtual Console.

So far, I can definitely tell Super Mario 3D Land took musical inspiration from this game! In addition to both having the Super Leaf powerup.

The music that plays when you encounter an enemy on the map puts me more in mind of New Super Mario Bros., though. Hm.

Interestingly, World-e, a world consisting of all the e-Reader levels, is available right from the file select screen! Fun fact, the physical GBA carts could not hold all the e-Reader levels!

This, along with Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii, has also been a chance to test out my Wii Classic Controller! It feels nice in the hands, but MKW had some awkward controls (among other things, the left stick is used for steering, but the D-Pad, on the same side of the controller, is used for tricks, meaning that it’s awkward to do tricks, which grant speed boosts…) and Smash felt similarly awkward because of the left stick placement.

But it’s been working fine for SMB3! Of course, it’s all in the name: it’s meant for classic games first-and-foremost, not then-modern games. (Man, I feel old describing Wii games as “then-modern”!)

had a dream someone hid their own game inside the download of what was supposed to be an old 2002 GBA game showcase, you'd click on Super Mario Advance 4 Super Mario Bros 3 and it'd just load up what was essentially a 3D Castlevania game based on The Sopranos and it was really fun

In the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. 3 (middle), the animation of the Muncher enemies is incorrect, with the two halves of their mouths moving slightly out of sync. This issue was not present in the original NES version (left), and was fixed in the Super Mario Advance 4 version (right).

Top: in the original NES version of Super Mario Bros. 3, the sprites for the magic wands used by the Koopalings have an oddity where the wand appears bent or curved when facing right (third sprite in the top row of the image). This was fixed in the Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario Advance 4 versions (bottom row).

Bottom: how the bent magic wand appears in-game, being visible for a few frames when it is falling down after defeating a Koopaling.
