Something I’ve always liked about Lab Rats, even back when it first aired, is how untraditional the family structure is. Not only is the family a mixed race, but is also blended family.

Once you add the idea of Donald being the biological uncle of Adam, Bree, and Chase it doesn’t take away from Donald being the father figure to the trio and they don’t start calling Douglas ‘Dad’. Donald raised them. Douglas even moves in and he’s more like uncle to Leo and the trio despite being the biological father. Going even further, Donald is father figure to Leo yet Leo never calls him dad. In fact, the trio doesn’t call him dad either. Still it’s very clear that Donald is the father figure.

What is even more interesting is how quickly Leo and the trio accept each other as siblings. It’s never step-siblings or adopted siblings, it’s always brothers and sister. This happens in like episode 2. The fact that Leo and trio are siblings are never questioned by anyone. It’s just accepted, even the villains.

Tasha from what we see from the show is quick to accept Adam, Bree, and Chase as members of the family. She even seems to pretty okay with Douglas. Granted, she never really interacts with Douglas, but we are never given any reason to think she has any issue with Douglas.

I think Daniel even adds another layer to this messy family. He’s sibling no one knew about, but calls Douglas ‘dad’. It always felt to me as someone trying really hard to fit in when calls Douglas ‘dad’. It’s implied that Daniel has an adopted family that he is very close with. Still, everyone just accepts Daniel as family right away. Daniel is interesting, unexplored, and underdeveloped part of the show.

The only person who has an Dooley-Davenport Family as unit is Rose Dooley aka Leo’s grandma/Tasha’s mom. She doesn’t like Donald all that much and seemed a little freaked out by Adam, Bree, and Chase. She never interacted with Douglas as far as I remember(correct me if I’m wrong). The narrative of the show frames this as wrong point of view. Rose is always has to learn the lesson that Donald and the trio are family and good for Tasha and Leo.

The Dooley-Davenport family is messy and confusing from an outsider’s point of view. There are tons of people in real life with confusing family structures like this. Some people are raised by grandparents or uncles or family friends. Sometimes, people can be close to cousins like they are siblings. Families are messy, but that’s okay as long as there is love. That’s really why I’ve always loved the Dooley-Davenport family it’s messy and non-traditional like so many people’s in real life.

Currently rewatching Lab Rats. And I find it funny when Tasha’s mom comes to visit and she asks if they can turn invisible. All three of them look at her like it’s the most outrageous thing. As if Bree doesn’t gain the ability to turn invisible later in the seasons.

Lab Rats HCs!!!

-Chase has nicknames for all of his teammates as well as his siblings. He even had some for some of his students.

-he calls Bree ‘bee’ and it started when they were only just little kids and were called Subject A, B and C. B is bee to him. He also calls her breezy or speedy because that’s what Mr Davenport used to call her before they had names.

-really cliche but he calls Leo 'Lion' because he thinks it’s funny when Leo gets all flustered when he does it. Leo gets embarrassed because he knows he’s not really anything like a lion. He also calls him ‘butter fingers’ and ‘handy man’ and he thinks he’s funny with that one since Leo’s bionic in one arm.

-he calls Adam ‘Atom’ and I love this nickname for Adam. I think I saw it in a fic about how the kids got their names and it was because Mr Davenport called him atom bomb (I think, I might have just imagined it) in the fic. Chase pick up on stuff really easily, that includes nicknames for people. He also calls Adam ‘hulk’ which everyone loves.

-Kaz has many nicknames from Chase, his favourite one is ‘fire boy’ and this one’s actually canon. He also calls him ‘Azzy’ which I have definitely stolen from a Chaz fic. Chase also calls him ‘button’ and nobody is sure why it started.

-he calls Oliver ‘drink dispenser’ and ‘refrigerator’ which he thinks is absolutely hilarious. Everyone calls Oliver ‘Oli’ or ‘Oli-pop’ which Chase has picked up on. He also has take to calling him ‘liver’ which Oliver hates.

-Skylar’s nicknames are ‘E.T’ ‘alien’ and other alien references. Chase also started calling her ‘toes’ after he found out about her weird alien feet. He also makes a lot of Star Wars jokes around her.

-Mr Davenport is ‘Donnie Darko’ or ‘weird man’ which Chase has absolutely no idea why he started.

-Douglas is ‘trash man’ or ‘rat man’ which stems from him being previously homeless.

-Chase has emetophobia (phobia of vomit) and refuses to eat anything sugary after he had hurled after eating loads of cake when he wasn’t used to real food yet.

-Bree can somehow always whip out bars of chocolate or random packaged food whenever people need it. Like she always has food stashed away somewhere on her.

-Chase mothers People a lot. He’s the one that carries around plasters and hydration for people on outings, he for some reason always has a snack on hand like Bree does. His are usually healthy and nobody wants them though.

-Kaz and Oliver are the only ones on the team that know how to human properly. Skylar is an alien, Bree and Chase grew up in a basement so they struggle to function like normal humans in society. They don’t understand certain aspects of being people. They didn’t know what Easter was until Kaz and Oliver came along. They still didn’t understand what Santa was and what his purpose is supposed to be. They don’t understand things that are normally natural to do for humans. Chase couldn’t understand the concept of homophobia because it was so normalised in the basement.

- (TW for homophobia and hate crimes) Chase and Kaz were almost hate crimed coming home from a date once. Six guys had started following them and yelling at them. They (Kaz and Chase) didn’t say anything and carried on walking. One of them grabbed Chase and Kaz went ballistic. He got so mad that even his hair lit on fire.

-adding to that, Kaz’s hair can ignite like a match if he’s mad enough. So far he hasn’t figured out how to do it on command.

-they have meals together almost every night. Kaz almost always cooks and man can cook really good food. Having 11(?) siblings means he taught himself to cook so that he could feed his siblings when their parents couldn’t be bothered to.

And to finish off I want to say how happy I am to see all the likes and reblogs on my posts. A couple have had hashtags talking about how much they love these HCs and how they imagine the same things as me and it makes me so incredibly happy. Thanks to everyone who actually likes these!

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. One moment. I remembered that in the first episode of Mighty Med, Horace uses a mini-communicator. Do you know who else is using similar technologies? Donald Davenport. Also in the first episode of Lab Rats. I wonder if the Mighty Med may have purchased equipment from Davenport's company in the past? This is a really interesting thought.

I know that there are two different sizes, but suddenly this is the evolution of this type of communicator.

i know that Adam’s whole character is basically “strong dumb one” but i love Adam with my whole heart so pls listen to my rant.

Adam isn’t dumb. at all. i don’t know if anyone else has noticed but almost every time Adam says something “dumb” and people correct him, his response is almost always “i know, but…..”

The Solar Flare/Beach episode:

chase: adam, sunglasses aren’t going to protect our eyes from the solar flare

Adam: no, but they will protect our eyes from when pasty-legs Davenport puts on his shorts.

The Haunting of Mission Creek episode:

Leo: Adam, that’s before the accident….

Adam: i know, i just really hate beards..

if he says something incorrect, he’s almost always aware that it was incorrect, he was just making a joke or trying to be funny. or they just misunderstood him.

also in that space colony episode in season 4, Adam says to Tasha

“wait, you guys are married? i just thought you came over a lot”

I think the fact that in most lref/lr fics, the bionic three often call Tasha 'mom' while they still call Donald 'Mr Davenport,' even if they aren't anti-donald, really says something.

Like, even people who aren't blatantly against Donald are still very aware that the bionic three don't feel safe enough to call Donald by a parental honorific, let alone his first name

One wacky thing about Lab Rats is that the show doesn’t seem to understand that even just 1 billion dollars is a huge number.

Donald is supposed to be a billionaire, right?

Then why does Tasha do laundry? Or make dinner? Or clean the house? Or even work her own job as a reporter?

Why does Leo have to do dishes? Or do chores?

A billion dollars is INSANE. Their lives should look much more different, and not the lives of a middle-class family.

I get that it adds relatability.

But.

It’d be cool to just go absolutely bonkers and really explore what it’s like for a presumably middle-class single mom and her son to marry into a billionaire inventor household. Let us see the conflict and chaos in doing so.

Lab Rats Headcanons

Except most of them are about Chase.

-Chase is grandma Rose’s favourite step-grandchild, Leo is obviously her favourite all around.

-the Davenport-Dooley’s have never met Donald and Douglas’s parents, I don’t think they ever will for many reasons.

-Chase used to be insecure about being short but now that he’s older he sees it as an advantage during fights and battles because he’s hard to catch/can get low enough to avoid hits from taller opponents. He’s also ‘slippery’ aka fast and quick, can get out of the hold of an opponent pretty quickly.

-Chase has a search engine in his brain, like he can literally look up answers to questions in less than seconds. He’s like a human Google.

-Chase hates Spike, despises would actually be a better word. He hates that Adam, Bree and Leo trigger Spike on the occasion because they think it’s funny (*cough* their first day at school *cough*). He wakes up not knowing what happened, what Spike has done, who he’s hurt and what property he’s damaged and it’s terrifying not knowing.

-Spike made an appearance during their time in the Elite Force. Chase’s Commando App was triggered by a news station that had made awful remarks about the EF (about Skylar and Bree’s relationship more specifically, they were very homophobic to them) and Chase had just gotten so angry that it triggered Spike to come out. He ended up ripping the TV off the wall, smashing it to pieces and basically going on a rampage. Chase is glad that Spike couldn’t figure out how to get down into Mission Command. It took about an hour for him to calm down enough that the app disengaged. It was a lot of explaining to do to his teammates.

-Chase and Kaz once got chased by the paparazzi, Kaz flipped them off as he ascended to the heavens (well, the skies of Centium City) with Chase in his arms who was laughing a lot. Thank the wonderful world of being able to fly.

-the Elite Force all saved up to get tickets to see Harry Styles for Bree’s birthday, they could have quite easily got the money from Mr Davenport but they wanted it to feel more meaningful because they had to work hard to save up for it.

-Chase struggles a lot going to concerts, meet and greets, shows etc because of his super senses. He’s found ways to cope better but it’s still always a struggle.

-to follow that, everyone tries to play music at a low volume for Chase’s sake. He always feels bad about it but they all assure him that they’d rather he feel comfortable in his own home than stress him out by playing loud music.

-the Rats never had toys when they were younger, they had to figure out how to play by themselves which often ended up with Chase getting hurt somehow. Falling over because he was going chased by someone with super speed, getting thrown around by someone with super strength just to name a few.

-Tasha and Leo were distraught to find out that they never had toys or teddies/stuffed animals so they took all three of them to Build-a-Bear and they each got a teddy. Chase got a frog, only because they had ran out of Pokémon ones but he loves that thing so much, it sits on the edge of the glass in his capsule and he named it Greta after Greta Thunberg.

-Chase finds a kitten in a dumpster on the way home from the shop/store one day, he heard it crying and clawing to try and get out with his super hearing. He takes it back to the penthouse with him and cleans it up. He didn’t have any plans to keep it, he was going to take it to a shelter or give it to someone he knew would take care of it but as soon as he dried it off and wrapped it in a blanket he knew that he couldn’t let it go.

-he finds out that it is in fact a he. He names him Tesla after Nikola Tesla. It also pisses him off so much that people think he named him after the car because he hates Elon Musk.

-Tesla is a calico cat with heterochromia. Kaz keeps telling Chase that it was destiny that he found Tesla because of their matching eyes. Chase keeps telling him he thinks it’s bs though.

I have fallen in love with this cat hc. Let me know if you want more of Tesla because I love him.

💻Chase Davenport Agere Moodboard and Headcanons Pt. 1!🧪

Headcanons are under the cut :) I might make more of these headcanons cuz RAH I LOVE CHASE SM SDJFKLSDF Also this post is so long im so sorry for yapping so much 💀

🪐GENERAL INFO 💻-Chase's little age is 2-8, though it can be a little older or a little younger depending on the circumstances. 🧪-He couldn't pinpoint a time where it began, but it became more prominent in his life after he got let out of the basement, and continued to become a bigger part of his life with each traumatic event (Betrayals, Near Death Experiences, etc)

💻-When it first begun, he immediately begun doing research and it concerned him at first, however, he managed to gain control and kinda suppressed it for a while, but with each every little thing that happened, he'd lose his grasp on that initial control. It scared him a lot, since he didn't want this side of him to be known to anyone. [more on this in the family section]

🧪-He can still use his bionics while he's small, but he has a harder time controlling them and they glitch more often (just like when he was actually a kid). Whenever he goes to put something in his mouth or chew it, he'll scan it first to make sure it's safe, sometimes he cares, other times he just puts it in his mouth anyway. If Chase stims using his arms, sometimes his molecular kinesis will glitch and knock things over or send them flying across the room, he's had to have someone disable it a few times.

💻-Chase stims a lot more often when he's small, he mostly just flaps his hands, he loves to pull his hoodie sleeves over his hands while he does it. He also does a lot of vocal stims, whether it's nonsense babbling or tongue clicking noises. He also loves to chew, he has a chewelry necklace that's pretty much attached to him while he's little, no one lets him take it off out of fear that he'll bite on something else that he shouldn't.

🧪-He loves to play with those kids science kits. He still retains most of his super intelligence so they're not as much of a challenge, but he likes the simplicity of them (this one was inspired by @paper--moons agere headcanons abt Peter Parker :))

🪐FAMILY 💻-His regression mannerisms became more apparent to other people after Sebastian. He swore to himself that he'd never tell a soul, but his family eventually did find out, whether he told them or if they figured it out themselves.

🧪-Adam and Bree knew about Chase regressing but they didn't have a name for it, all they knew is that he acted childish at times, especially after a stressful mission. They've become very receptive of each other, considering the fact that they lived in a basement together all their lives. Adam likes to give him piggy back rides and Bree plays tag with him (and even though she has super speed, she usually lets him win)

💻-Leo already knew what regression was, he's been around tumblr enough to get a good understanding (me fr) and has some friends that do it. He'd witnessed Chase's regression a few times before eventually asking about it, in which Chase told him. Leo is very supportive of Chase and lets him play with his action figures with him.

🧪-Telling Donald was... complicated. Donald noticed Chase's childish tendencies and always told him to knock it off. Chase did eventually explain it to him, and although he didn't quite understand it (and sort of didn't want to at the time), he eventually came around. He can still be a bit harsh towards Chase if he's regressed while he's meant to be working, but he's trying his best.

💻-Unlike Donald, Douglas was extremely chill about it. He had a feeling about it after reconciling with his family, and Chase telling him confirmed his suspisions. It pretty much went like this: Chase: So um... I'm an age regressor. It basically means- Douglas: I know. Chase: ... You do? Douglas: Uh, yeah. I could already tell, kid. It's pretty damn obvious, at least to me, anyway. Chase: Oh, alright. Um... any questions about it? Douglas: Nope. He didn't want to pry Chase with questions about it, but trusts him to come to him whenever he needs to, which has happened a few times. After Douglas moved into the penthouse in Centium City, Chase went to him more than a few times after having nightmares, or if he was simply missing his siblings or life in Mission Creek. They've shared a few nice moments on the terrace.

🧪-Tasha knows a lot more than she lets on. She let Chase explain it to her, but in reality, she knows a lot about it. She actually cares for a little herself, but has never told anyone about it [feel free to leave ur guesses as to who it could be :) /nf] She's kinda like one of Chase's babysitters if his main caregiver isn't available (Who will be revealed in the next part). She's very nurturing and makes it easy for Chase to let his guard down. [Not including Marcus or Daniel because Marcus wouldn't have had time to find out, and Daniel hadn't been in the picture for very long, so Chase wanted to hold off for a while]
