How to make the yuletide gay

It’s December, and the holidays will be here before you know it. So how do you make a splash in a season full of tacky sweaters, broken candy canes, and those Christmas laser light things. (What is up with those?!) Well, all it takes is a little elbow grease, lots of glitter, and believing in unicorns…I mean Santa. No, I mean unicorns. Not even sure where to start? Just follow this easy-peasy primer and your holidays will be gay, merry and bright. Since we’ve already covered presents here and here, lets start with the tree. Nothing says, this tree is gay like some leztastic Christmas ornaments. Here are a few that would add a little extra tinsel to your tree. From Picard Creative From Tashiart From Zazzle You could go subtle and sweet with garland… From Target Or you know, forget about the garland and just go all out. From Amazon Oh and remember the wrapping paper. From Zazzle A tasteful rainbow menorah will light up the room. From Etsy Now that your decorations are in order, it’s time to show off the place with a holiday party. It doesn’t have to be a huge bash, but the holidays are about getting together with friends and family, so here are a couple ideas for any budget. On the cheap: Invite your friends over and tell each one to bring their favorite kind of holiday cookie. Buy some festive boxes at the dollar store, and pack those puppies up with the goodies so everyone gets a variety of cookies. Flung out of Space party: Pick a favorite holiday movie, and have a screening party, with commentary of course. My suggestion is the best Christmas movie there is, Carol. Serve creamed spinach, poached eggs, and martinis. Ok, skip the spinach and eggs and just serve the martinis. Signature cocktails and carols: For this one, I enlisted the help of queer Mixologist and Beverage Director Jordan Moore. You can’t just serve any regular old cocktails or eggnog at this gay and festive event, so to get your crew ready to sing their hearts out, Jordan has created some cocktails based on our favorite lesbian and bi pop culture characters. Haught Enough for Ya? -Build in mixing glass: -Serrano pepper, muddle -1 oz. Lillet Rose -1 oz. Campari -1oz. Rittenhouse Rye -Stir with ice -Garnish with grapefruit twist & serrano slice Strong with a kick, but aromatic & approachable Danvers if You Do, Danvers if You Don’t -Build in small tin: -.75 oz. lime cordial (Peel & juice 12 medium limes (adjust for size variability), add equal amount sugar, steep overnight in refrigerator. Strain & bottle) -.75 oz. Cointreau -.75 oz. Don Q Spiced rum -.75 oz. Remy 1738 Cognac -Lime zest -Shake with ice & double strain into coupe -Garnish with orange twist Complex, off-dry, many-note. Loosely based on the classic daiquiri, a drink that went through a party phase, but much like Alex Danvers, has come back more sophisticated and self-assured. San Juniper-o -Build in highball: -2 dashes lavender bitters -2 oz. soda water -2 oz. bergamot tonic syrup (2 1/2 cups of water, 2 1/2 cups of bergamot sugar, 1 1/2 tbsp, 3 tbsp of citric acid, 2 lemons, 1 grapefruit, 2 stalks lemongrass. Boil water and sugar, turn to low, and add the rest. Simmer for 25 mins, cool, then strain completely.) -2 oz. Hendricks gin -Top with ice & stir to mix -Garnish with lemon wheel & lavender flowers Kelly & Yorkie are made for each other–gin & tonic are too, so I didn’t mess with this one too much. Delicate lavender & flavorful bergamot add just enough to make this time-old tale extra special And finally, a party needs music, right? Chapter 1 preview!

Virgil's POV:

I look around nervously as I step out of my room and slowly creep down the hall. Janus has always been pretty overprotective of Remus and I, especially me. I just want to go to the imagination, is that too much to ask? I know I'm a new side compared to everyone else, but I've still been here for a long time! I've been here ever since Thomas was 17. He's 21 now! I've been here for 4 years! Anyway, back on task. I listen for Janus' footsteps, or Remus'. I'm not entirely sure who would be worse to run into, Remus or Janus.

I freeze in place when I hear a floorboard creek and immediately blend as much as I can into the shadows, my already dark clothing helping a lot with camouflaging me. Janus walked by, seeming to be in a hurry, and I felt more nervous then I normally would've been. Thomas must need to lie to someone important. I would normally worry about it a lot more then I am now, but I'm a little preoccupied at the moment and sneak into Remus' room, even though I'm absolutely horrified with how disgusting it is. Through either of the Creativity's rooms are the only way into the imagination, and I'm certainly not going to the light sides. I'm going to be in enough trouble as it is.

Remus' room is mainly black and green, much like you'd expect it to be, but there's mysterious goo and blood everywhere, as well as a curious stench that I don't want to stick around long enough to find out what it is. I don't want to become the next horrendous stench in his room. His bed is has a black wooden bed frame that looks like he started beating it up, or chewing on it, either is possible. It has flowy black sheer curtains that are torn to shreds by the end, where they fade completely to a glittering dark green. It would be beautiful if it was better taken care of.

There's two other doors, one is a black that fades to green, much like his curtains on his bed, that glitters slightly with something different that I shudder in disgust at. Then I look to the other door and hesitate to go near it. It's a sleek, pure ebony black door that has a slight shine to it, almost like it's made out of marble. It gives off this vibe of, "DANGER! DO NOT APPROACH!" And my body is inclined to agree.
