Hear me out! Hear me out!
Demigods x monster! 141 au
Because it would be funny. I love the fics of demigods being a bit more monster than initially lead on but it doesn’t really manifest til they either get to camp (a safe place) or hit puberty. Think about it! Zeus children who smell like ozone and seem permanently caught in a storm, eagle feathers growing in. Children of Athena with too big eyes and the ability to swivel their heads like an owl, owl down growing in. Children of Hephaestus who run incredibly hot, oil in their veins and metal for skin in some places. Their hearts ticks and their fingers whir. Children of Apollo who are hard to look at, who literally glow from the sun in their blood. Who sing like birds, and predict plagues. Children of Aphrodite whose appearance changes daily. Whose eyes never settle on a color and well maintained claws. Whose honeyed words can bind or break someone.
Now add in monster! 141. A one winged dragon, a harpy, a werewolf, and a wraith. Who see these children or adults presenting monster like features but humans look at them in confusion when it comes up in conversation.
A team who gets surprised when a bronze knife is pressed into their ribs a teenager because “I swear that’s a harpy.”
A task force who goes to investigate when manhattan goes completely dark. Only to find monster children in ancient battle armor dead, dying, or fighting for their lives against creatures not seen in centuries.
A task force that gets dragged into the fight with each demigod war. Who try to help the little monster children when the weight of the world is too much. Who reach out to allies and contacts because these are children who react like soldiers when faced with a threat.

Percy: I have the opposite of season depression, I’m fine throughout winter but then without fail every June I feel the deep seated need to just BURY myself.
Annabeth:
Annabeth: Seaweed brain I hate to tell you this, but that is still seasonal depression.
Percy:

How Hermes talks about Luke to others: (the most adoring, protective, forgiving father you've ever met, full of praise and admiration, refuses to give up on him no matter what crimes he commits, defends him to the heroes and begs them to show him mercy, utterly crushed by regret for his own failures)

why is percy jackson episode 6 coming out in just over 24 hours i have things to do?????? i have places to be???????????

this last episode was magical, we get to see annabeth’s perception of percy which I think is so neat, cause in the book we just get percy’s pov and our boy is just struggling to survive, but from anyone else’s point I of view he’s powerful, he’s a hero. I loved the “you’re not just a kid” scene and the way they filmed the scene of percy turning alecto into stone because they really showcase how the way he views himself contrasts with the way other people see him. Especially with the echo of his prayer to his mom still in our minds, with the way he views his own worth compared to how he views the worth of the people he loves. He is so much more powerful than he realizes.

I’m serious when I say Luke is rarely portrayed as a good guy in fanfics, but when he is, it’s almost impossible not to like him.

(Leo speaking to Hephaestus:)
Leo: I used to think I was creative. I used to think I was smart. I used to take pride in the things I invented. But it’s just you, isn’t it? Everything I’m good at, everything I like about myself, it’s just your powers I inherited. If I wasn’t your son, I wouldn’t be able to do any of this. I wouldn’t be good at anything.
Leo: I thought that I had earned this. That I had learned when my mom taught me about machines, that I had built my abilities myself. But it’s all just shortcuts and fakery. It’s just god magic. It’s not real. It’s not mine.

hc that Ethan is just as unhinged as the rest of the TA demigods but is in possession of a few brain cells so whenever he's with them he needs to tone it down to be the acting mum friend because if he doesn't an errand to get milk will end with a hospital visit

my trials as possibly the one singular person who cares about the larger worldbuilding lore of the riordanverse is figuring out what the difference between harpies, sirens, and bird nymphs (from Artemis' retinue) are. what are the distinctions between these bird women.

Is Nico vaccinated? Is Hazel vaccinated? Are Annabeth or Jason even vaccinated? For gods’ sake, are ANY of the kids who arrived at either of the camps at really young ages vaccinated against any of the diseases that they should be?

You know, i keep seeing ppl irritated that the pjo episode run times were so short and that it was annoying, and on a level i agree that it could have been much better as a show Technically with more time to think and spread things out, but there's also a reason why media made so younger kids can watch isn't very long. Young minds wander, they get bored easily, and attention spans are bad enough that lulls are a bad idea.
I mean, if it were an adult how, or even a teenager show actually, i'd probably critique the short run times and choppy transitions between moments or plot points, but honestly kids media is gonna kids media. The Book was choppy too. Hazards of the age range.

Ok so the obvious divide in Greek/Roman fighting with Greeks being perceived as less organized and as not having plans has been pointed out and commented on sooo many times even in the book. But I’m gonna comment on it again because it’s such an interesting cultural difference between the camps. Plus I think Greeks get sold short - it’s not that they don’t plan, they just plan differently!
When Percy yells “Um…fight!” at the end of BoO they all know what to do. They probably discussed stations and strategies beforehand. THEY KNOW WHAT THEY’RE SUPPOSED TO DO. They know what is expected of them, what to expect of others, how to improvise, to read the fight to tell where support is needed, to figure go with whatever half-cooked plan their partner is executing (see: Percy). They’ve done similar things over and over again in Capture the flag! They have fought with each other and against each other. They know the strengths and weaknesses of who they are fighting beside (and know who they mesh best with).
There is an expectation among Greeks that you pick up on the context and “read the room.” The best fighters mesh well with people they have trained with and those they haven’t.
Neither way of fighting is inferior. The Greek team is smaller so they probably can’t pull off the formations the Romans use anyway.
And because I’m learning about cultural differences in class rn I can’t help but think of what this means for values and such. The Greeks put more emphasis on relationships and less on procedures and timing in general. This comes through with how they hold meetings. Besides the formality differences so much more time is spent chatting in CHB meetings and therefore developing personal relationships.
I’m just picturing a Greek turning to a Roman after a fight being like “how did you not get that? Didn’t you see the Look he gave you?” And a Roman turning to a camper after sitting in on a meeting, being both overwhelmed by every thing that happened and feeling like nothing got done, saying “We didn’t even make a decision” and the camper is like “what do you mean? We’re building a statue of Apollo next week.”
