The Rolling Stones’ much celebrated Tattoo You from 1981 is an outtake collection, taking the best songs from the 1973-1980 period that didn’t make it to an album. Such is the quality of those outtakes that many people consider Tattoo You the last great Stones album, alongside Some Girls, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street.
However, what many people don’t know is that Tattoo You didn’t quite include every outtake from that period. An insanely prolific era for the band, more than thirty songs still remained in the vaults even after the release of the album. Many of them were later resurrected and released in the Goat’s Head Soup, Some Girls and Tattoo You deluxe editions during the 2010s.
So what if Tattoo You was a double album? In a blog post over at The Reconstructor, I put together another eleven outtakes from the Goat’s Head Soup to Emotional Rescue albums to serve as a companion piece to the original 1981 album. Here’s what it looks like:
THE ROLLING STONES - TATTOO YOU TOO (1982)
Living in the Heart of Love (Tattoo You)
Claudine (Some Girls)
Everything's Turning to Gold (Sucking in the Seventies)
Fiji Jim (Fully Finished Studio Outtakes)
So Young (Some Girls)
Criss Cross Man (Goat's Head Soup)
Through the Lonely Nights (Singles Box Set)
We Had It All (Some Girls)
I Think I'm Goin' Mad (Singles Box Set)
Drift Away (Tattoo You)
Fast Talking, Slow Walking (Fully Finished Studio Outtakes)
