The Dinner Scene

Hey, everyone.

This post is about the interactions and reactions of helaegon at the dinner scene, many fellow greenies seem to think that Aegon is abusive to Heleana and I'm here to show that like everything in the dance, things are more complex and nuanced.

"So, you know how the act is done, I assume."

This is the first thing that I want to highlight, Heleana is more than comfortable with Aegon, in this scene Heleana laughs at Aegon's antics.

It's safe to assume that Aegon makes Heleana laugh quite often.

After laughing at Aegon's joke, Helaena starts playing with a beetle (I've heard people talking about this, it was Aegon that gave it to her but other people say it was Helaena's so I'll take both in consideration).

In this scene, Aegon is talking rather crassly in front of a Lady and a Princess, Helaena doesn't even acknowledge his words. If Aegon was deeply abusive, wouldn't she flinch or even look scared listening to Aegon talking about intimacy?

She also plays with the beetle that Aegon may have given to her, if he did, it means that she doesn't hate Aegon and he knows what would make her happy.

After Aegon propositions Baela, Helaena looks and watches Aegon. She heard what Aegon said and considering what she did afterwards, she wasn't happy about it.

Helaena's toast wasn't planned, she admires the beetle for a moment, contemplating if she should but went for the kill. People assume that Aegon was annoyed at Helaena but he only reacted after she said Baela's name, that's when he realised that he fucked up.

What she talks about seems to be a point of many fights between them, Aegon ignores her. This was meant to annoy Aegon, she doesn't care that TB is there, she's venting that her husband isn't there for her. Again I ask, would that be something an abused woman does or even complain about?

This is the realisation that Aegon's words upset Helaena, and there's nothing that he can say. He opens his mouth signalling that he wants to speak but the contradiction of both of his hands in front of his mouth. Usually, people do that to shut themselves up, you know how bad it is because this is usually done with one finger. Like this:

For a moment he thought about defending himself but thought that it would make things worse, which is probably true.

Helaena is proud of herself, she made everyone laugh but Aegon on the other hand, he's anxious and his gaze is down, signalling that he's embarrassed. He's not angry here, he's avoiding eye contact with Helaena, here's an example of anger display:

Aegon was ashamed:

He was ashamed and anxious.

If Aegon was abusive why would Otto have this reaction? At first, I thought that he said "Good" in relation to Aegon ignoring Helaena, but taking into consideration that her toast was an impulsive decision, Helaena might have told Otto about how Aegon ignores her and she gets sad or annoyed about it. The "Good" would be in the context of Helaena standing her ground and being assertive and making a toast in front of many people since Helaena seems to be really shy and introverted.

Alicent just looks at Aegon looking for confirmation closes her eyes and takes a deep breath in resignation, his face more likely has the answer.

Aegon and Jace have a stare-down, Jace has the beginning of a smirk. He doesn't care about Helaena, this is payback for Aegon's words. Since Helaena is angry at Aegon's words she accepts the invitation to dance, it would be a good way to get another "revenge" on Aegon. It always rubbed me the wrong way having Helaena dance with Jace but in the context of her being angry at Aegon's words, it makes so much sense.

His eyebrows raises slightly and he blinks for more than a second, meaning that he had to process what was actually happening. Aegon is actually surprised that Helaena is going to dance with Jace, before the scene cuts to them walking Aegon starts to form a frown. I believe that he fully expected Helaena to turn down Jace and I think she would, if it wasn't for Aegon's words to Baela.

Here you can see him squeezing the beetle, he's angry but he doesn't want anyone to see that this is bothering him and through the squeezing, you can see that he gently strokes it with his thumb. Whilst he looks at his half-sister and uncle, who are shown to have a good relationship, unlike him and Helaena.

Signalling that even though he's angry, it's not necessarily at Heleana, but at this situation. He tried to make Jace angry, but in the end, he brought this on himself.

Puck me up - T.Bordeleau

Summary: A lost bet and a stupid sign might have given you more than you first thought.

Got this blurb from my own idea to do a similar sign to a Devils game in the future so enjoy (and I would absolutely let bordy f*ck me up, that man has me in a chokehold)

How on earth you ended up at a SJ barracuda game you will never understand. Sure you liked hockey, loved it in some way but growing up in Carolina the hurricanes were your team. Going to a game for other teams where the canes weren’t playing felt like betraying them. It felt illegal. To make matters worse you lost a bet with one of your friends, the reason to why you now have a sign with #17 could puck me up and I’d say thank you written in bold letters. Why 17? Simple, you knew nothing about Barracuda but they are your friends favourite AHL team (San Jose being their favourite NHL one) so after loosing the bet they made you take a look at the roster and pick the player that you found the most attractive.

Thomas Bordeleau was the one who captured your attention. It just was something about those brown eyes and that crooked smile that peaked your interest. Handsome just didn’t seem to cut it, he was more than handsome. Beautiful, pretty absolutely mesmerising maybe. “Isn’t it bad enough that I have to go with this sign, did you have to force a jersey on me too? And a hat?” You knew your attempt at guilt tripping was futile as your best friend is a menace to society that loves things like this. She also knows that payback will come back to bite her in the ass one day. “Shut up Y/N it’s only one game and I won fair and square. The jersey is just a cherry on top at this point.” That response getting and eye roll in return as you find your seats. AHL games may not be an NHL game but they aren’t any less fun and the energy is just as electric. There isn’t any feeling in the world that matches a hockey game. Call it an addiction.

By the time warmups starts you’ve gotten several looks from others in the stands, face bright red as a mother narrowed her eyes at you in disapproval. Yeah you are definitely giving Y/F/N a piece of your mind after the game.

As the players make their way onto the ice you try to bury your face behind the sign, why did you have to have seats so close to the bench? Thomas will most likely see the sign. He has to.

Your friend whispering your name catches your attention. Peeking up from behind your makeshift hiding spot you look over at her, a manicured finger pointing over to the ice. Oh no. Slowly moving your gaze to the ice, your suspicion is correct. Over by the boards there are currently three hockey players clad in teal staring at you. One of them being Thomas Bordeleau. A big smile on his face as his eyes take in the words written on the paper. “Eklund saw it when they stepped out and told Bordy. I think I saw him blushing.”

Thomas skates away and you feel like you can take a breath of relief. He saw the sign and you survived, even if you nearly died when you saw Thomas looking at you.

Sadly you took a breather too quickly because soon your friend was poking you in the ribs again to gain your attention. “Huh?” Looking up from your phone in confusion you follow your friends line of sight. “Catch!” Thomas throws a puck over the boards, making you scramble up from your seat to catch it. The hockey player throwing you a wink before he skates away again to warm up.

Is written in scribbly handwriting across the puck, flipping it over you notice the phone number on the back. Alright Mr. Bordeleau, maybe you’ll let yourself root for another team than the canes if a certain brown eyed player is on the team.

i'm not in a current mindset where High Honor Arthur is better than Low Honor. To me they are both canon.

Here im talking about full on Low. Not helping John get his family we're talking about the hardcore Arthur.

I mean i love high honor for obvious reasons but the low option is actually pretty interesting in terms of how he deals with his own turmoils and emotions.

He's a man who openly calls out Dutch on his bullshit and hypocrisy while being aware of his own bad way and doing nothing to change that because he is dead on about him being unable to change and collect himself. The good in him is not sufficient to try harder and help from the bottom of his heart.

It feels like he tries to help himself coming to term with how cruel and unforgiving he is but i'd argue that it's not the case-- he's not helping himself, he is bringing himself down. TB didn't gave him a new outlook on life; it cruched him and made him bitter for being a fool and he feels like there is nothing he can do and he surely won't do it, because he don't want to do it.

I don't think it only comes from a place of apathy but more from fatalism

He doesn't see himself as a bit of good not only because he never done anything remotely selfless, but because Arthur is a man who values how poeple think about him to certain degree-- how people praise him or loath him. The low honor path ehance that fact in a unsane way: he was fucked over by the man he thought as his father, the man who praised him and called him son. And he is bitter. He is simmering in his own anger and foolishness that it dulls his own sense of justice. His own turmoil revolves around how love is intrinsect to loyalty. I'm sure he doesn't even believe people truly loves him. Why would they?

He doesn't even want to aknowledge that Tilly's going to miss him you know? He stops her short. Doesn't want to hear it.

He never had a chance to internalize what he felt and wanted cause he didn't see himself like that. Arthur being someone who cares for people is a core theme of his character but if you, as the player, chose not to dig deeper and try to end the cycle of violence, it won't end well. Each path is plausible with the life he had.

He had good in him, but somewhere along the way it gets buried and muddled.

So now i want to talk about returning to camp for the money in full Low Honor

He arrives, fights with Micah etc etc Dutch.

But one thing really clicked for me when he said "ive come back to get back what's mine"

Not only Arthur is selfish presented during a Low Honor route, but him getting back what's his can be read the obvious way-- Blackwater money, the only thing keeping them from getting back out West, the thing Dutch kept to himself with Micah's help. Arthur was betrayed by his father figure and even dying wanted to take it as a prize for how much he did for a man who deceived all of them and especially him.

So what about Micah? Well, all of the above is applied to it. Micah's the rat, he fucked the gang, fucked his entire life and fucked the rocky foundation of Dutch's way that possibly wasn't even real from the beginning.

So technically, it's not really a Redemption. He's not repenting for his sins as his last action is driven by selfishness and revenge.

He does not want Micah to die by his hand for the sake of the gang.

It's personal.

So, if the game is about Redemption-- and he wants to cope what''s his;

Where is it? Where is the beackon of light?

Well...Redemption is also a financial term for repayment.

That's the redemption of Arthur, killing the rat and taking the gold his is own Pony up to Dutch and Micah for allowing all that shit that happened.

But it never comes. Dutch's doesn't kill Micah when Arthur orders him to, and Micah gets to walk away after shiving the shit out of him in the heart and back.

Not only he doesn't get any personal Redemption but he doesn't get to give payback.

Ain't that tragically hilarious.

He thought he lived a sinful life, and he died a sinful death. There's no redemption. He's not allowed.

Don't get me started on the meaning of the stab wound, one in the heart for the love he had for Dutch who got crushed-- and one in the back by the betrayal of his father figure by the man whom he trusted more than his own son-- the real rat

Hi, I always enjoy reading your perspective. As I know nothing about Emmy awards . Only knew it is for US based television programmes. I just want to know if Season 3 of "The Boys" is nominated for an Emmy, in your opinion, what would be the best scene / sequence of Jensen Ackles as Soldier boy would be suggested to be nominated or awarded?. If the talent makes it past the "consideration" phase and gets nominated, then they pick their best work for the panelists: actors choose their best scene, and producers choose their best episode. Personally, I would pick his scene with Crimson; he was enraged and bewildered by her betrayal, but he was still in love with her and had faith in her. I don't think he meant to kill her, but he had no control over his new deadly power that's up to now was only triggered by emotion. It's his fight with Homelander that we see some measure of control over his new power. Anyways, it was why I semi-raged over SB/CC scene being too short, not only was their chemistry good but it was also the prime opportunity to explore and explain his background and his relationship with Payback members.

Soldier Boy was so underutilized that I'm 90% convinced that Kripke either knows Amazon will only spend pennies on Emmy campaigns for TB next year, or he had no intention of using Jensen to pursue an Emmy for the show. Any of you remember The Walking Dead wasting 90 freaking minutes (including commercials) on Morgan and the cheesemaker? Because that episode was their Emmy bait. None of TB episodes or actors' performances this season stood out to me as Emmy bait even though Tony Starr made me feel for the detestable Homelander when Mauve and Soldier Boy rejected and belittled him after he made himself emotional vulnerable to them, because those scenes were too damn short, just like the SB/CC scene.

Trauma Center

Last Christmas my mom continued her tradition of buying me a random bargain bin DVD for a stocking stuffer. I requested we discontinue this tradition as I have been slimming down my DVD/BluRay collection the past several years, and have traded in roughly a third of my movies, and buy far less than what I use to. I guess my mom could not break from tradition and thus we have today’s entry for 2019’s Trauma Center (trailer). Usually my mom’s hit-to-miss ratio is pretty solid on gifting me a film I have not seen yet and wound up loving with past examples like Sour Grapes, Alpha Dog, Blues Brothers and Trading Places. Trauma Center is a straight-to-video action movie one would find on the old “Movies for Guys Who Like Movies” pick of the night on TBS. It does have star power in the form of Bruce Willis as police detective Steve Wakes. Willis has been doing more straight-to-video efforts in recent years in other decent action films like Hard Kill and 10 Minutes Gone. It must be working out for him better than his theatrical efforts because I have no idea why he keeps up with these type of films. Digression aside, turns out Steve’s cover for his CI was tracked by a pair of corrupt cops, Tull (Texas Battle) & Pierce (Tito Ortiz).

Tull & Pierce take out the CI, but also injure innocent bystander waitress Madison (Nicky Whelan). They track her down to the hospital and discover the supposed secure room on a vacant floor Wakes sets up for her. What happens next is a game of cat-and-mouse with Madison doing her best to stay one move ahead and hold off the bad cops while Wakes pieces the clues together and attempts to assist Madison. Watching Madison adapt to her surroundings to fend off Tull & Pierce was actually entertaining, despite some too convenient camerawork at times that made it appear an injured Madison could pull off miraculous feats of strength. Tito Ortiz is a trip as the “bad cop” of the duo, and his overacting is probably the highlight of the film as he stalks and tortures Madison. Rest assured, he gets his well-earned comeuppance. Bruce Willis is as subdued in here as he was recently in his role in Glass. I am having difficulty determining if that is what he was shooting for, or if he was just going through the motions in this straight-to-video affair. If you are going into this thinking this is a Bruce Willis-lead action blockbuster, then you will be disappointed because this is a vehicle for Whelan’s survive-at-all-costs performance. Willis’s character is in the supporting role mostly doing background detective work until the final scenes. Whelan is pretty convincing in her effort at barely managing to stay alive, and the final act is fairly entertaining when all four figures have their respective standoffs.

Unsurprisingly, there are no bonus features on this DVD, not even a trailer! Regardless of that, I do not want to mislead you dear reader that I am praising the movie. I have seen a lot of straight-to-video action films, and this one is maybe a notch or two above average, but is by no means rush-out-and-see blockbuster. That is on the straight-to-video curve as well! The performances they got out of the cast seems about as good as it could get, and there are even a couple genuine moments I was kind of invested into Madison fending for herself. That said this film will not blow you away, but if you run across it on cable/streaming or the bargain bins, than it is an ideal movie to have on in the background with the occasional scene that will divert your attention. Factoring in all this curved grading, and I will chalk this one up as a semi-win for my mom’s annual random Christmas DVD!
