GUYS I CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE TO HAVE NOTICED, RIGHT ???
Ok so, I had this epiphany the other day and wanted to share it, but like, I forgor because if I don't do something I think of immediately in the moment, then I forget to do it. BUT, here we are.
I'm just gonna mark this down as a huge spoiler for The Legend of Zelda : Tears of the Kingdom, so if y'all don't want to be spoiled on some (albeit small) details from the game's canon, please do move on lol.
Okay so, as I was rewatching the cutscenes in Tears of the Kingdom the other day, I noticed that both Rauru and Mineru have this tear-shaped white mark on the bridge of their nose. Quite innocent, right? Maybe just a Zonai trait?
But then– then I realized they also have a third eye. On their foreheads.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, what really baffles me is, if you look closely at these screenshots (I believe Rauru's is taken from the official Collector's Edition Artbook, and Mineru's is straight from the game itself), then you'll also realize that both Rauru and Mineru's third eye have exactly three lashes.
Okay, now that that's out of the way, hear me out.
You know what other "race" in Hyrule displays these traits or make use of that sort of symbolism?
Yeah.
Tumblr media
The Sheikah.
They're also the only "race" in Hyrule that doesn't appear in the flashbacks where we see all the Sages.
Now, it can and will certainly be argued that the Sheikah are not a seperate race from the Hylians and yeah, I completely agree with that (it's even stated in game in the profiles of the Sheikah characters, like Paya or Impa, that they are "Hylian (Sheikah)"). In a sense, even if they are the same race, they still belong to a different people or culture than the rest of the Hylian characters, and can therefore be considered "seperate". It was the case in Ocarina of Time where the Six Sages included both a Hylian (Zelda herself) and a Sheikah (Impa, as the Sage of Shadows, I believe).
So why not include a Sage who was part of the Sheikah tribe, like Nintendo did in Ocarina of Time?
Sure, I'm going off a super subtle detail here, but I have a theory and I will die on this hill if I must : I think the Zonai were actually the ancestors of the Sheikah tribe (and of the Royal Family of Hyrule, as Sonia mentions a "blood connection" between her and Zelda, as well as the fact that she sensed both her power over Time and Rauru's power over Light within Zelda).
Now, as I said, this theory of mine is based off a few small details, as well as off of the absence of the Sheikah in the distant past of Tears of the Kingdom. However, even if Nintendo haven't done this on purpose and the marks on Rauru and Mineru's noses are only meant to be decorative, I still think there's something there that we're just not seeing.
Either the Zonai are meant to be part of the Sheikah tribe's ancestry (which would, in turn, explain why the tribe has always been close to the Royal Family as they share common ancestors in both Hylians and Zonai), or the Sheikah were just like "Oh hey, that's a really cool idea for a logo. Wanna make that our tribe's symbol??" and their leader at the time was like "Yeah, let's go boooiiiiis" and that's that.
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Sorry for the long post! I just absolutely had to share. I can't be the only one to have seen this detail, right???

What if the goddess is just a bargainer in disguise?
All bargainer statues has a goddess right above it. During one of the quests the bargainer speaks through the goddess to Link to get his help restoring it (the quest is on the great plateau). Everything the goddess helped the chosen ones with was some sort of bargain. She granted Zelda her powers at the cost of her lover's life, traded souls for Link's strength, and a century of her Kingdom's safety so her chosen ones could get another shot at doing her dirty work. Bargainers trade the souls of the lost for goods.
Maybe the bargainers took the souls of the Sheikah warriors caught in shrines through the goddess once Link freed them. Maybe they're doing the same for the poes.
Or maybe the bargainers took over the goddesses. Maybe they're the true masterminds. Maybe its the best way to do their work because the goddess is more approachable and well known/trusted.

TOTK theory: where are the gloom spawns in the depths?
i spent a lot of early game expecting to be ambushed by gloom spawns in the depths, only to find my encounters extremely sparse compared to the surface. you would think the gloom-ridden hellscape would be full of gloom spawn locations, but according to zelda dungeon, while the surface has over 30, the depths have only 7.
Tumblr media
there will be talk of the final boss, so spoiler warning below
3 are found directly underneath the hebra, eldin, and gerudo dark skeletons.
Tumblr media
so what are they doing here? it’s pretty much agreed amongst fans from the shape and size that the dark skeletons were dragons.
Tumblr media
so being immortal doesn’t mean they’re unkillable. which also begs the question of what out there is strong enough to kill a dragon. the gloom hands scavenging its remains might have something to do with it.
dragon killer or scavenger, consuming the vitality of an immortal dragon would explain where ganon got the energy to rehydrate himself in the final battle.

🧊 🔥 ⚡️ DRAGON ORIGIN THEORIES BOTW/TOTK ⚡️🔥🧊
⚠️ SPOILERS FOR TEARS OF THE KINGDOM ⚠️
Gonna talk about Dragon Tears and their associated memories, along with the final boss, you have been warned!
So, everyone’s seen that cutscene where Zelda eats a secret stone and becomes a dragon. This is the ONLY confirmed way that someone can turn into a dragon/how dragons are created in the BOTW/TOTK universe.
Tumblr media
So does that mean that Farosh, Dinraal, and Naydra were all human/hyrulian race at some point?
This is the only canon way for someone to become a dragon, or for dragons to be created. So that means at some point in time, 3 people consumed a secret stone, therefore becoming dragons. These dragons are Farosh (Lightning), Dinraal (Fire), and Naydra (Ice).
Transformation Theories
General
As of the time of this post, none of the dragons have been spotted in Rauru’s time, also known as the origin of Hyrule. The most recent spottings have occured in the BOTW game, and at the latest appearance chronologically, was before Link awoke in the Shrine Of Resurrection, 100 years after The Great Calamity. Now, there’s always the chance that the dragons were in hiding during the events of The Great Calamity, along with The Imprisoning War, but for the sake of clarity, im just gonna say that they weren’t around for Hyrule’s founding by Rauru and Sonia.
According to the Hyrule Compendium articles for each of the dragons, they are said to have existed since ancient times. Since there’s a likely chance that these dragons didn’t exist during Hyrule’s founding, the most likely time that they first were created was 10,000 years ago, during The First Calamity, in which the Zonai incarnation of Link (Link with the ancient heroes aspect) and the Zelda from 10,000 years ago, fought off Calamity Ganon with the Divine Beasts and 4 Champions for the first time. That is the most likely era where the dragons were first created.
🧊 Naydra 🧊
Tumblr media
I think out of all of the dragons, Naydra would have been the first to become a dragon. Out of all of the 3 core dragons (Going to exclude the Light Dragon and Demon Dragon, since they either became dragons recently, or returned to human form), Naydra has the most emphasis and screen time, to the point where they even had their own side quest to purify them in BOTW, since Ganon himself deemed them as a threat and corrupted them with Malice.
Naydra mainly circles around the Lanayru and Necluda regions of Hyrule, even full on circling Hateno village in TOTK. Im going to assume that they were a Hylian, like Zelda, and perhaps circle their own hometown (Hateno) to watch over and protect it from Malice and evils after their encounter with Ganon in BOTW. Considering the ammount of effort Ganon went through to seal/impair them, Its likely that Naydra was a sage or priest towards Hylia, likely being a person of importance and immense power.
My idea as to why they swallowed a secret stone revolves around the sage idea. Perhaps during/after the events of the Great Calamity, fearing the return of Calamity Ganon, swallowed a secret stone in order to help the heroes in the future against Ganon, or maybe to just watch over their home. Some other ideas is that they were at the brink of death, injured during the calamity, or simply at old age, and wanted to keep fighting. Either way, they were likely a religious figure of great importance who wished the watch over their hometown.
🔥 Dinraal 🔥
Tumblr media
Dinraal resides in Eldin and Akkala (along with a bit of Hebra in BOTW), and mostly hangs around Death Mountain in TOTK. I think Dinraal would have been the second dragon to transform into one. While they definitely don’t have as much focus as Naydra, there is an associated side quest involving the leviathan ruins that leads you towards their location.
Obviousl, Dinraal would have been a Goron, hanging around Eldin and Death Mountain, and mostly fire-related areas, except for traveling around Hebra during BOTW. Considering that Ganon himself ignored both Dinraal and Farosh, it’s likely that these two dragons weren’t sages or priests, but there is a likely chance that Dinraal was a sort of protector of Eldin, perhaps even being the Goron Champion during The First Calamity.
The reason as to why Dinraal became a dragon has to do with my theory of them being a protector of Eldin. In order to watch over their home, they swallowed a secret stone and became a dragon, fully devoted to watching over their home. But, as they were a protector of Goron City, it is likely they couldn’t travel far during their days before dragonization, which in turn results in them venturing towards Akkala and Hebra during BOTW, doing the exploring they never could.
⚡️ Farosh ⚡️
Tumblr media
Farosh, of course, is the youngest dragon out of the 3. Compared to the other two dragons, Farosh is relatively ignored gameplay wise, with my only discovery of them being when they emerged from Lake Hylia during their route. Compared to the other two dragons as well, Farosh has the most diverse path across both games, from 3 seperate spawns in Lake Hylia, The Spring Of Courage, and the Gerudo Highlands, and later in TOTK circling around the lower Gerudo Desert, leads me to belive that they are the youngest of the 3.
Considering Farosh’s path, it is likely that they were either a Gerudo or Luerlin Village Hylian, hanging around the Faron and Gerudo regions mostly. However, considering Naydra’s Hylian background, along with Farosh’s lightning element, I am more inclined to trust the Gerudo bloodline more. Their inconsistent path, along with being relatively ignored story-wise, leads me to believe that Farosh wasn’t a well known figure during their life before before being a dragon.
Leading on from the fact that Farosh wasn’t well known, there is a high chance that they consumed a secret stone to become well known. Perhaps they wished for the attention and praise they never received, and thus became a dragon in order to compensate for the lack there of. Even if this theory isn’t true, there is a high chance that Farosh consumed their secret stone in an impulsive move, maybe to defend it from the Yiga Clan (If the Gerudo Bloodline is considered fact), or in a bid for praise and recognition.
Feel free to share your own ideas on this theory, along with your interpretations of how the dragons came to be!

Hi so what if not only is Zelda in this picture but this outfit represents her growth and newfound agency when compared with the sad prayer dress from BOTW
TOTK dress:
Tumblr media
BOTW dress:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In summary, sad prayer dress:
restrictive and suffocating empire waist
ugly bustle style draping
heavy gold necklace and cuffs that symbolise the burden of her duty
gets kinda nasty and covered in dirt (admittedly not the dresses fault)
she had to wear this dumb dress on Mt Lanayru where the temp is like -40C
Cool new mysterious dress:
looser, more comfortable looking silhouette
stylish off shoulder sleeve detail
cute little bracelets
looks pretty clean here
Zelda probably got to pick this out herself since everyone who made her pray when she was younger is hella dead
i rest my case

Mineru and Stone Tower Temple connection?
I can’t tell if I’m crazy or if I’m onto something here, but whilst watching one of the cutscenes with Mineru in it, I noticed her helmet and neck piece bared a striking resemblance to the imagery used in the Stone Tower Temple in Majora’s Mask.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stone Tower Temple—as well as some of the surrounding area—have statues of humanoid figures licking a Triforce. Many have theorized in the past that these statues are a form a blasphemy against the Goddesses, as they abandoned the land of Termina.
Mineru’s helmet is also licking a sacred item, her secret stone, so I wonder what this could possibly represent.
Here’s a more up close shot of her armor that I put together with my truly breathtaking photoshop abilities lol
Tumblr media
As much as I want to ramble on about how “OMG GUYS, this proves that the Zonai are somehow connected to the Stone Tower Temple!!!” I’ll leave this post here as her armor design could be explained in the game and I just have yet to see it.
If Mineru’s armor isn’t explained further however, I’d absolutely love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the subject! Just please avoid any major spoilers, thank you!
(Also I apologize if this has already been brought up before, I’ve been avoiding TotK posts so I don’t get spoiled)

The new language/runes/symbols in the latest trailer match the symbols in the old trailer concerning Link’s new hand BUT here’s the kicker:
They DON’T match the Gerudo alphabet in the glowing green floaty stuff in the original 2019 trailer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHICH IMPLIES ONE OF TWO THINGS:
Assuming the glowing hand that Link obtains is the same one/related to the hand that seals ganoncorpse
There are at least TWO different cultures at play in the actual sealing process location. That would be the Gerudo and this other unknown language’s people (cough cough it’s definitely the zonai cough cough)
or. ALTERNATIVELY
Tumblr media
Assuming the gerudo glowy text is coming from the hand
The glowy fancy hand was made/summoned by Gerudo, and somehow later bestowed upon Link in the 2019 trailer location with ganoncorpse. THEN in an entirely SEPERATE location, said magic hand is enhanced/altered by the craft of this unknown civilization (cough cough the goddamn zonai cough cough)
I AM INCLINED TO BELIEVE THE SECOND BECAUSE
LOOK AT HIS FUCKING PANTS
HYLIAN TROUSERS
Tumblr media
NOW LOOK AT HIS USUAL UNDERWEAR
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS BITCH IS WEARING NEW PANTS. SO HE’S IN A NEW LOCATION.
Maybe it’s the underwear of this outfit?
Tumblr media
also something something wouldnt it be fun if this was a time travel thing and link was simaltaneously the original hand that sealed ganondorf and that is why his clothes look like that and then it loops in on itself as he gives his botw-self the green hand and naaah no i dont think this game has anything to do with cycles or loops right haha

Sometimes when I'm bored I just go out and read Wikipedia.
Today, I was in the midst of a deep dive into neolithic structures and art when I came across a mention of an artistic motif called a "cup and ring mark" and naturally I was curious.
Tumblr media
Here's one gorgeous example: the Perda Pinta ("Painted stone") from Sardinia (photo from Wikipedia.)
I thought "that looks familiar..."
Tumblr media
While the concentric rings in this case appear to be raked, as in a rock garden, this is not the only surface we see the same design on. It also appears on the underside of the pillars that let Link ascend out of the depths and on the metallic floors and ceilings in shrines, which, incidentally, appear to be made from bronze.
The cup-and-ring marks also date back to the Bronze Age. Given that bronze is also used in the Zonai shrines and possibly in Zonai devices, I think the Zonai were either inspired by or intended to be a Bronze Age culture. Which is fascinating, as they are also a very advanced society--advanced enough to create constructs that have lasted until the current era in Hyrule and smooth stones almost perfectly while balancing them with the widest sections uppermost.
I could even argue that the Sheikah golden age when the Divine Beasts were created could be an Iron Age to the Zonai Bronze Age, though that is on much flimsier grounds.
Just some interesting ideas to swirl around.

TEARS OF THE HEROINES THEORY
Legends of the Gerudo say there were Seven Heroines, protectors of the Gerudo. But there was actually an Eighth Heroine, one that was eventually removed from legend.
The statues erected to the eight were tall and towered over what may have been an ancient ceremonial site. The Gerudo are also said to have renounced the Gods of Hylia and saw the Eight Heroines as their true divine protectors.
I believe that these 8 ancient beings may have towered over even the Gerudo in height, and because they were in close relations with the gerudo, they may also have towered over them in legend.
These protectors may have even followed under Ganondorf, whether by force or by fear, when he reigned over 10,000 years ago, until his eventual demise. I believe that the Heroines may have joined forces with Zelda and would eventually help in sealing Ganondorf away.
This 8th Heroine may have potentially been the one to sacrifice themselves to keep the seal in place until Link and Zelda would eventually stumble upon the chambers of sealing. These seven heroines would eventually be lost to time to most, even by the time of the first Great Calamity some 10,000 years ago.
Stories would have been told in the form of statues by the Zonai, who would disappear (Seven Statues that surround the Boar Head Statue in Faron.) And the eighth statues erected by the Heroines would eventually be exciled potentially by the followers of Ganon who felt she led the rebellion against Ganondorf.
The Seven Heroines Statues in the desert represents: Skill (Red Swirl), Spirit (Orange Arrowhead), Endurance (Yellow Circle), Knowledge (Grey Colon), Flight (Green Scroll), Motion (Blue Drop/or possibly Flame), Gentleness (Purple Pause).
I believe right now that the Tears of the Heroines, or Tears of the Kingdom of the Gods, may hold the powers that Link will eventually obtain.
Through Knowledge, Link turns the world Grey and causes the objects to reverse to where Link knows they come from.
Through Flight, Link summons and controls a Green Hued Flying Machine.
Through Motion, Link uses a Blueish Liquid to move through objects in space.
Until we see more, this what I'm currently theorizing. Sorry for the long post, it's been on my mind since the trailer and just had to put this out there!
Tl;dr. Link uses the Tears of the Ancient Sages, the Seven Heroines, ancient Divine Protectors that joined forces with Zelda. These Tears have the power of the Seven Heroines, skill, spirit, endurance, knowledge, flight, motion, and gentleness. The final sage/heroine/divine protector gave Link the link to these powers and was the one who kept Ganondorf in the basement for several thousands of years.

This is most likely our Zelda (BotW), not Hylia or an ancient Zelda. She doesn’t have long hair like the Zelda in the prophecy tapestry or wings like the Hylia statues, plus her dress seems to have an empire waist which is iconic to all of Zelda’s designs (apart from the winter outfit).

I was talking to this friend of mine about Zelda and we were talking about things we thought would make TotK better, and I said Kass because damn I miss him and his silly little songs, and I said he'll probably be in a DLC. I then said I wanted more refrences to the Divine Beasts and the Calamity. Well, this guy goes "oh, I had this idea that they could bring them back in the DLC, or explain what happened to them."
SIR? GO APPLY FOR NINTENDO AND TELL THEM I SENT YOU BECAUSE THATS FUCKING GENIUS.

Why the Zonai Might Be Aliens
Do I have any actual proof for this theory? No, but I do have circumstantial evidence and I’m going to tell you all about it!
Tumblr media
First off, let’s start with some concept art from Breath of the Wild. While this may not seem that relevant, we already know that they’re reusing some of the concepts they originally came up with for Tears of the Kingdom — just look at this concept Link with his arm and broken Master Sword.
Tumblr media
This is relevant because more concept art shows Link, resembling his Breath of the Wild design much more now, watching a flying saucer attack Hyrule. An even earlier concept even shows him in a spacesuit!
Tumblr media
Moving on from concept art, we have the stone taluses. These stony enemies are heavily implied to have an extraterrestrial origin, due to the amount of pebblits found at the Gisa Crater in Tabantha. This confirms that not only does extraterrestrial life exist in the Zelda universe, it’s already present in the Hyrule we see in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
Tumblr media
There’s a few clues that could point towards the Zonai themselves being aliens (or at least connected to them in some way). Throughout the trailers we’ve gotten for Tears of the Kingdom, we’ve seen many glyphs like these ones scattered across Hyrule. They happen to greatly resemble the Nazca Lines, which are known for being the focus of a conspiracy theory that claims they were used to communicate with aliens.
Tumblr media
Now, the Zelda series has had aliens before, just not in Hyrule. The aliens (or ‘ghosts’) of Termina played on the stereotype of aliens stealing castle and abducting people, leading to one of the most memorable sidequests in the game. If Nintendo is bringing aliens back… why not use the trope of the ancient alien civilisation?
Tumblr media
When we look at what little we know about the Zonai, a few interesting things stand out… they’re described as an ancient civilisation, that clearly once spread across Hyrule, but mysteriously disappeared, leaving behind only their architecture, and a few strange puzzles like the Typhlo Ruins and Thundra Plateau.
Tumblr media
What little we’ve seen of the Zonai in Tears of the Kingdom so far only supports this theory, as we see their technology creating anti-gravity, and even a rocket. We even have this glimpse of an unknown character who resembles no species we’ve seen in Hyrule before — much like the stone taluses, they seem to be new.
Tumblr media
In conclusion, are the Zonai aliens? To be honest, it seems a bit unlikely that they’ll be aliens specifically, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they were somewhat alien-adjacent, keeping some of the tropes, without actually being from space.

In 2019 we saw our first glimpse of the sequel to Breath of the Wild during Nintendo’s E3 presentation. Skip forward a few years and we now know much more about this game, including its title: Tears of the Kingdom. However, one thing we have not yet seen is exactly how this game will begin.
From what little we’ve seen of Tear of the Kingdom it appears that its story begins with Link and Zelda exploring underground and coming across what seems to be the body of Ganondorf, held down by a mysterious green hand. However, this presents a problem if Nintendo wants to reproduce the popularity of the Great Plateau.
