Untitled 2 is my ascian au!! This might take explaining some lore of ff14 so bare with me for a minute here. Major spoilers for the game ahead.

So the overarching plot of the expansions that have come out so far is the hydaelyn/zodiark saga. Trying to sum this up as best I can, the world was split into 14 different reflections. The ascians are a group of 13 who were basically the worlds government before the split happened. Theyre trying to cause instability to rejoin each of the reflections together and get the world back to the way it was. The thing is, the convocation (the group they were before the sundering) had 14 members, the player character is said to be the reincarnation of the 14th member who actually opposed their plans to try to stave off the apocolypse and left the group before the sundering.

Some of the ascians are also just reincarnations of their ancient selves and they are raised up using crystals holding the memories of their past life.

So my idea for this au, is that the 14th member was found and raised up just like the other ascians. But!!! Their memory crystal doesnt actually contain any memories from their previous life. So they are roped into helping not remembering anything about the world before just that they /should/ want it back. And they definitely dont remember that they actually opposed their plans and left. By the time of the events of the game they have decided that they dont want to help them anymore and want to put their faith in humanity going forward. So they start trying to secretly oppose them while also hiding their connections to the ascians from the games major characters and their allies.

I really only have one scene from it written where theyre exposed as an ascian to their allies.

"By your Twelve, boy, have I not told you before that everything I said was the truth? You were specimens by which I might gauge man's potential as it stands. I genuinely had an interest in you. Genuinely considered taking you on as allies." Emet-selch frowned at him. "You were the ones Azem had betrayed us for after all, and if any of us could find another way it would be Azem. Provided they could contain the light. But even they, who had been ascended beyond the limits of mere mortals, could not."

"So we've been found wanting. How disheartening." Thancred said. "But even had we fulfilled your conditions, there was no guarantee that we would cooperate. What then? According to you, even M- no, Azem, no longer wished to cooperate with you."

"Oh, that is nothing new for Azem, I told you they're quite good at backstabbing didn't i? But, had it come to that, then I simply kill you all. At the very least, it would restore the world to the way it was before you went about trouncing Lightwardens willy-nilly." Emet-selch kneeled down in front of Azem. "Suffice it to say it would be most inconvenient to have all that Light taken away─and I would be lying if I were to claim their actions didn't have me worried."

Never before or during.#everytime ive responded to somebody's “thank you!” with a “you're welcome!” while im ACTIVELY LOOKING DOWN flashing before my eyes #& when i say actively i mean WHOLE HEAD POINTING DOWNWARDS #i mean i am usually throwing something away but like. WHY DO I NEVER WAIT UNTIL AFTER THEY'VE LEFT TO THROW IT AWAY!?!?!
