One day he loots a merchant ship with one Edward Teach on board who adopted a life on the sea after having to make a hasty escape from a port one fateful night. Edward takes one look at this frantic fumbling mess of a pirate captain and falls HARD. And...well. you can probably fill in the blanks after that.

I wanna talk about Ryuusui cause I've been thinking about him. He's kind of an invert of (or somewhat adjacent to) the trope of living up to expectations. You become the monster because that's how people see you anyway...

He's greedy he's selfish he's self centred he's a bit of a brat and whatever other thing you can think to call a hedonist and privileged rich kid. These generally aren't seen as positive things to be, but Ryuusui takes these in stride and is proud to be all of them!

He's the greediest because he wants it all, so he can share it all. You'll have to pay for it, of course - but the option to buy it will be there. If HE'S having a good time, that means EVERYONE is capable of having a good time.

It's a funny way to turn such a negative connotation on its head.

No one will in the village will worry about starvation ever again! Why? Because I'm greedy enough to want more delicious food!

I just find it amusing and quite endearing that a character that could've so easily been annoying and grating based on the cores of his personality type, is instead a refreshing remix of those cores.

He's a rich kid, everyone was going to look at him and call him spoilt and greedy anyway. Why not take it in stride and use the power that comes with money to be greedy in the best possible way?

This also ties into what I like about Francois so much - their understanding of Ryuusui complements his more outlandish behaviour by recontextualising it.

Mild spoilers for the manga, but further on Francois acts as a translator quite often to ensure that people near them won't suffer because of a language barrier. They're able to translate and make sure concepts are understood so everyone is on the same page

Francois is incredibly perceptive (almost supernaturally so!) They are not only able to anticipate, but problem solve and create solutions based on those observations.

What we've already started to see in the anime with Francois in this one episode is how they're able to recontextualise Ryuusui! They understand that he's greedy to such a point of sincerity, and that's what keeps him moving forward.

And as it's been said, greed isn't necessarily a bad thing in this stone world. It's helping to motivate quick advancements that are going to be beneficial to everyone ;)

He's been super fun to read about and I hope he becomes even more fun as we get to see him animated. There's so many great moments coming up that will be really exciting >:)

Another year come and gone!

It's been two years since I began my submas hyperfixation! I am still so, so glad I did, and I owe pretty much everything to this fandom!

I have to say, though, from March of 2023 to now has been... a rough year for me, overall. It's been REALLY hard for various reasons, and I thank both my friends and followers for your help and support. I apologize things have been so slow in coming out! I just need more time than I used to, is all. Most of the bad stuff was not related to any fandom at all, thankfully! Some of it was, but that's the risk of being in a fandom.

I am hoping that the March 2024-2025 period is kinder to me.

I did do a lot of cool submas stuff, though. My longfic surpassed 100k words. A zine I was in was released! My first one! And I got into another zine as well! I flew across the USA to meet up with friends and go to a con! I met Emmet's english anime VA! I got to meet other incredible people in cosplay! I got to do so much, and I am so, so grateful for that.

So cheers to another year of submas :)

Tomorrow, the 29th of March, marks 2 years also since I posted my very first submas fic, Closing Doors. While this year I have no new oneshot to post, I will be posting the next chapter of ABYS! I have a lot of things in the works, but burnout and mental health has gotten in the way. I hope y'all understand <3

I'll be posting it from a con too lol, where I will be cosplaying as Emmet! The 2 year anniversary of the first time I cosplayed Emmet! (Not to the day, the con switches what months it's held in every year)

Wtf is red dwarf and why does it look so cool

It's a British scifi comedy show from 1988 where in the very first episode everyone but one guy on the space ship "red dwarf" fucking dies. This one guy survives bc he was put in stasis for smuggling a cat on board. After 3 million years he gets outta stasis and learns that everyone died from a radiation leak and yk, it being 3MILLON years later its basically safe to assume hes the only human left alive. The ships computer, who is a floating head on a screen and who (legit and no joke) later transes his gender for a few seasons resurrects the guys boss as a hologram, who incidentally is also the person that accidentally killed everyone. The guys cat was pregnant and in the 3million years it took him to get outta stasis the cats evolved into humanoid guys so one of those cat people is there too. This all happens in the first episode.

The show has legit such interesting scifi ideas and shit i am so mad about how good it is. Shaking. If you like parallel universes then boy will you have something here. This guy:

You need to watch it rn. The only thing that keeps you from going "this shit is actually very sad" is the laugh tracks. For some fucking reason they keep making this show every 5 years or so. There was a movie in 2020. I hope they never stop.
