Actually I think I do want to ramble a little more on the subject.
While I do love making buzzsaw jokes (especially after completing Path of Pain, like, the fuck?) I do also think the layout of the Dream White Palace wasn't intentional. If he did it after that horrible cry came out of the Black Egg temple the first time when Holly was starting to crack, he must've been in a fucking state.
Like imagine you convinced yourself that what you're doing is for the greater good, that this being that you do love (even if you're denying it to yourself) that you thought was emotionless, a blank slate, only does as is told, has no hopes, thoughts, aspirations, merely exists, suddenly with one cry proves you wrong.
Just imagine that horrible realization that you were wrong about them (you always were, you ignored all of the signs they were alive) and you damned them to a fate worse than death. Eternal imprisonment sucks too, but since they're an unfeeling creature, it's fine, right? Nope. Definitely not. It was not fine, even if they were an unfeeling creature, but now it's even worse because the infection is eating at them now.
All of those children left to die in the abyss? That all happened for nothing.
Those dreamers you made to sacrifice themselves to keep people out? They're now the only thing holding the vessel inside of their prison but they sure as hell are not containing the infection. That too was all for naught. Your daughter lost her mother for no reason.
You did this all to save so many people, your entire kingdom of Hallownest. You choked down the guilt of your decisions because it would save the kingdom. Now you find out it was for nothing.
I think anyone would break, and break the King did.
By that point, there was no one left to stop his spiral. The White Lady was gone, most of the knights too, his council, everyone. No one was left to stop him from making extremely irrational decisions, including putting his palace into the dream realm to flee from the infection along with anyone inside. As he runs into his throne, trying to somehow run from the guilt, the grief, the horror, the palace twists. It becomes extremely hard to follow him, almost impossible. He makes it to the throne, the Kingsmoulds loyally guarding the outside...
It's there he breaks. He spirals. He falls into a deep despair.
I personally think the Pale King died of grief, and with that death, left his surviving children the monumental task of cleaning up the mess left behind.

The Aftermath
(I did the thing. I doubt the thumbnail is going to do it justice, so probably good to open in another tab)
-
I had the idea without further context, but the more I look at it, the more it makes me think this is a moment soon after Solomon's death. None of them are over what happened; Ominis still has resentment towards Sebastian, meanwhile the experience brought Seb and MC closer.

i love how the quote “your worst sin is that you have destroyed and betrayed yourself for nothing” is often cited as a sort of aphorism when in context it's just rodya hard projecting all his problems onto poor sonya. like please do not take any sort of advice from a man who unironically compares himself to napoleon. he is not qualified

what really fucks me up is that there’s no way the attack and binding of narinder to the afterlife wasn’t premeditated. all the bishops were wounded; they fought him at the same time. chains large and durable enough to hold a god for centuries had to be forged. if narinder attacked first, then he would’ve chosen to take everyone on 1 to 4, which is just a phenomenally dumb idea when he could’ve had better chances cutting them down one by one.
whatever shamura saw in narinder’s hunger for power, it scared them enough to coordinate an attack on their sibling to lock him away permanently. and that’s fucked up.

I have a dumb question, and I really hope this doesn’t sound rude. What’s the logic for some of the characters? Like, if they’re the “hero” in their storyline, but they don’t seem to follow Biblical doctrine… does that even count? I’m sorry if that sounds snotty; I don’t mean to have an attitude.
No, you're fine!!
Short answer: I don't know, I'm not the one sending in the characters 😂
But really I would say there's not necessarily a consistent logic that they have to fit. That's part of the beauty of Christianity, isn't it? Anyone who repents and believes is welcome; it's not limited to any certain type of people. For the characters people are sending in here, I think there are a few categories. There are some that fit what you said, who already hold Christian morals and who one could easily headcanon as being Christian within the story. Sometimes people send in villains who they want to have redemption arcs and become Christian. Sometimes it's characters who are Christian; mostly it's characters people would like to see become Christian.
#my favorite character who i headcanon as Christian is one who generally has very Christian morals and really wants to do good#but also lies a lot. and i think in that case it's like i could see him being Christian in the story#because Christians aren't perfect and even people who don't have their whole act together can believe#I'm not justifying continuing to do wrong. I'm trying to figure out how to phrase it#i think there's some post I've seen about how even terrible characters who do terrible things can be Christian#if they're repentant i think? point being that all of us are sinners and a character doesn't have to be perfectly good to be a believer#because none of us are. and a line from a song i know 'though I'm wretched i am not faithless' about a character who#has done bad things and is struggling to reconcile his actions with God's love and forgiveness#anyway. i was saying the character i like comes across to me as an imperfect Christian but also as someone who could really benefit from#learning and growing in the faith. i want to see that character grow morally stronger and become more like Jesus!!!#it would be good for him 🤷‍♀️#and that's kinda the point of most of the characters people send. they either seem like they could genuinely BE Christian#or are characters people think really need Christianity in their lives#sometimes it's 'this character seems Christian' and sometimes it's 'i like this character and want them to become Christian'#i think characters who don't follow Biblical doctrine fall under either imperfect and learning Christian or needs Jesus in their life#ask

i have a friend who very adamantly tells me that ned not thinking about hating rhaegar or several pov characters only having nice things to say about rhaegar is on purpose so they can portray him as being the worst character to ever exist in the next book LMFAO
Well...sorry to your friend, but that's not how subervisons are written (and certainly not how Geroge is writing them). George's reputation for shocking moments + the lack of material for 10+ years has really done a number on discussions in this fandom. We're at the point where any analysis that has basis in the books is ignored for being "too simple" and people are coming up with theories with no evidence other than "that's just the feeling I get". I'm not even surprised at your friend for having this take when they're in the same fandom that debates Jon's parentage because Rhaegar + Lyanna being his parents is "too obvious". We can figure it out because there are actual hints to it in the books, but it will still be a "shocking" revelation when it comes out (if not to us then at least to the characters).
It's the same with Rhaegar being portrayed as a decent person, or Rhaelya being portrayed as romantic; they both subvert expectations! People need to realize that we weren't meant to have all of this time between ADWD and TWOW to overanalyze the books... sometimes it's just not that deep. Our first perception of Rhaegar + his relationship with Lyanna is overshadowed by the fact that we barely know anything about either character. Their existence is intentionally vague and we slowly learn more about their characters through people who knew them + Dany and Arya being their literary mirrors. The problem is that people make theories based on them despite the new information that we learn. "Rhaegar is actually a terrible person and we know this because people think about him positively" is the kind of twist we would get if AGOT was released today by incompetent writers like D&D😭

Nuea said he’s not being a side chick and he’s so valid for that. Lom and Yiwa need to come to their senses and tell their families to fuck off. Nuea and Marine don’t deserve to be pushed back into the closet.
See here's what annoys me so much about it. It's fine if Yiwa, Marine, and Lom have this arrangement going on. I highly doubt Yiwa and Lom talked about what they would do if Sailom met someone before they got their scheduled divorce (sounds like they planned that) so it's not fair for Lom to act and pursue Nuea without telling him the truth about the arrangement and it's not fair for Lom to sort of just expect Nuea to accept it like Marine has. He's only known Namnuea for 2 months, he doesn't know Namnuea and he shouldn't expect a damn thing from him despite the fact that they're vibing.
IDK how easy it would be for Lom and Yiwa to tell their families to kick rocks, I know in most Asian cultures family is the most important thing, but Lom just can't expect people to be as understanding and willing to go along to get along like Marine is. Also we don't know how much begging and pleading it took from Yiwa for Marine to even agree to standby while Yiwa and Sailom get fake married.
It's just annoying that Namnuea got dragged into this whole situation because Sailom can't keep his hands and lips to himself. Nuea is just trying to do his damn job and it really irks me that Nuea is setting clear boundaries and Sailom just be sidestepping them bitches like he's dancing in the club.
I like LomNuea together but my gawd the way Lom just steamrolls over Nuea's feelings because he knows they like each other and that his marriage is a sham is really aggravating lol.
I'm glad Nuea isn't rolling over so easily and Lom had better figure out what he's going to do about this fake wedding, he already said he'd cancel it for Nuea, but let's see if he means it.

I think people overestimate how feminist team black is. If someone brings up how Baela should be the heir to Driftmark, it's always "she would've been Queen if not for the Greens!", ignoring that 1, she would be Queen consort, not a Queen in her own right, and 2 she has a legitimate claim in her own right to Driftmark. Team Black's goal is to crown Rhaenyra, but Rhaenyra becoming Queen isn't a win for feminism because it does nothing to dismantle the rest of the patriarchal system that exists in Westeros. From what we've gotten so far, it reads that Rhaenyra wants to be the exception and not the rule. Rhaenyra has made a lot of bad political decisions, which means she can't acknowledge Baela's claim because it would weaken her own claim (blatantly admitting her eldest sons are illegitimate would not end well for her to say the least). So she betrothes Jace and Luke to Baela and Rhaena to kind of atone for that, like as a consolation prize Baela will be Queen and Rhaena will be lady of Driftmark, neither of them would hold either title in their own right. It's good matches because the kids like each other and will treat each other well, but it's not a feminist win or a feministic liberation. It's usurpation, usurpation that takes place because Rhaenyra has to do damage control after having illegitimate children and after a serious of bad political decisions (both hers and her fathers, Viserys is the arbiter of this entire mess). To me, Rhaenyra is very reminiscent of Mary Queen of Scots, I can see a lot of elements drawn from Mary's history in Rhaenyra's story and character, down to their sons eventually taking the crown they failed to claim/keep.
#hotd#hotd spoilers#house of the dragon#house of the dragon spoilers#Rhaenyra targaryen critical#I'm going to do a rewatch prior to season 2 & I'm going to analyse the bad political decisions from vis & Rhaenyra that lead to the dance#like by no means the only factors at play lets not forget otto daemon larys etc#but it's an interesting factor that the fandom doesn't really acknowledge#and a lot of Rhaenyra's bad political decisions are understandable because of her youth and because viserys does fuck all to prepare her#like even if she wasn't who he choose as heir she should've been given a better political education as a princess#but vis fails his most of his other four kids in that regard to#i mean he also fails to acknowledge them or remember them but anyways#he is a huge part of the reason aegon and aemond became he they did#props to whoever probably alicent for sending daeron to oldtown so he could grow up well adjusted#alicent: i'm writing a letter to daeron is there anything you would like to say to him?#viserys: daemon? why are you writing to daemon?#alicent: daeron?#viserys: who?#alicent: our son? the one you sent to squire in oldtown?#viserys: i think i'd remember if we had a son who's name was one letter different to my brothers#viserys: in fact i do alicent do you mean the one who lost an eye?#alicent: *screaming internally*#viserys targaryen#king viserys#rhaenyra is such an interesting character but i hate how the fandom sanctified her because how dare characters be complex and have flaws#like you dont have to justify their actions or bend over backwards to deny their faults to like a character you know 😭#and the same thing is done to daemon who is far more fucked up and far more flawed in the show than the fandom allows#i hate the team stuff tho i get hbo going for it as a marketing move that was genius but my god are certain stans insufferable#the entire point of the dance is that its a pointless tragedy there's no good or bad side theyre both awful in their own ways#but thats a longer rant for another time outside of the tags

would kira kill kira
Ooh, good one. Let's take "Kira" here to mean First Kira (Light Yagami) specifically, or more generally another Kira who acts exactly like him, for the sake of "would Kira deserve to die by Kira's standards." (Light did canonically kill two other people who were acting as Kira...)

Ed Apologists: It's understandable Ed became the Kraken! He was just protecting himself because Izzy told him to watch his step.
Ed, slamming Izzy against the wall by his throat: Choose your next words wisely, dog!
Guys, Izzy was literally warning Ed off after Ed assaulted and threatened him. Ed will cut off Izzy's toe in a later scene, bringing Ed to a grand total of three physical assaults on Izzy for the season.
Izzy will never physically retaliate against Ed this season. He will treat the punch and mutilation as justified punishments. The only time Izzy will respond to an assault with resistance is when he tells Ed to watch his step...after reaffirming that he serves Blackbeard.
The flow of events: Ed threatens and attacks Izzy, Izzy threatens Ed, Ed mutilates Izzy in the middle of the night and forces him to eat his severed toe.
Ed is captain. He could have Izzy tossed with an anchor within the hour. He could have killed Izzy in his bed if he felt that wasn't an option.
But he didn't do those things, because Edward Teach has never been genuinely afraid of Izzy Hands a day in his life. And it would be absolutely asinine to maroon an entire crew of potential allies who were down to drown Izzy, then keep Izzy around.
He wasn't afraid Izzy would hurt him; he was afraid Izzy would leave him, slipping through his fingers with everything else he'd built and earned as Blackbeard.
You know what's extra fucked up? I think there's actually a pretty good chance by "Ed had better watch his fucking step" Izzy meant, "I won't let Ed threaten or hurt me like you just did; those are Blackbeard's privileges alone. Do it again and I'll retaliate." Remember, he said those words after Ed stopped strangling him. Which means a character's attempt to set a boundary about their physical safety is being treated as justification for further violence enacted upon them.
Ed was just so scared Izzy wouldn't let him slap him around anymore. Poor Ed. :(
