Rahu Dominant Themes — 𝐍𝐚𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐚 𝐎𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 (part 1 of) 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝟕
warning ⚠️: movie spoilers
Lord Rudra is an angry manifestation of Shiva who is the god that destroys the universe in order to re-create it. Rudra is the version which emphasizes the destruction of illusions, imperfections, diseases etc. before change can take place. Rudra means "one who eradicates problems from their roots", which rules Ardra, where we see the shadow planet Rahu being at it's potent height. Rahu is always dissatisfied and filled with illusions. With Rudra here, we see the strong conviction to break all things illusory, that are a stain or disease. Ardra, being Gemini and Rahu together, chooses to face the cold, harsh truth by deconstructing it (Mercury). There comes an intense anger and urge to destroy the root of all problems.
The best piece of media by far to embody the potency of Ardra, especially Rudra, is MR. ROBOT.
Tumblr media
Ardra is quite contradictory, as it aims to expose truth by ruthlessly shining light on it ("control is an illusion") and therefore breaking the illusion, despite literally being ruled by the most illusory planet, Rahu. Rami Malek is an Ardra Ascendent and in the series Mr. Robot, he plays a cybersecurity engineer who uses his rare intelligence (Gemini/Mercury) to take down an evil conglomerate that controls the world & gets away with terrible world crimes that are swept under the rug. The Ardra character is already established as not a truth seeker, but someone who is already aware of everything and has been long disillusioned. The other important main characters also seem to be played by Rudra influenced actors which I found so incredible. These key characters show different dysfunctional aspects of society, almost critiquing them. Though Rudra is more potent through Ardra, Rudra has incarnated in different forms. Aja Ekapanda, Ahir Bhudhanya - Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada. And Goddess Kali has associations with Rudra, and it rules the nakshatra Mula - which forms the axis with Ardra (being Sagittarius-Gemini). All the Rudra nakshatras are scattered across the main cast of Mr. Robot.
Tumblr media
Another similar piece of media that is linked with Ardra and anarchist/political themes that expose heavy truths of society and elite powers of the world is the film V FOR VENDETTA, which leans more into anti-fascism. Starring an Ardra native.
Tumblr media
Ardra faces the reality of things that is usually harsh and too overwhelming for others to bare, the kind of truth that is often not thought of. The series The Boys shows what would realistically happen if superheroes were a thing — none of that Marvel sugarcoating shit. Just like Rami Malek's character in Mr. Robot, the character Billy Butcher played by Karl Urban is already established as one who knows the harsh reality of superheroes (being monsters and corporate puppets) and is portrayed as an angry, disgruntled, dissatisfied person. And of course there is Rahu/Ardra influence.
Tumblr media
Ardra is not always about dethroning corrupt powers. It can simply manifest into meaningless chaos, purposeless anarchy as seen in Heath Ledger's Joker who only makes chaos to prove the hypocrisy in people and society. This critical nature is always within Ardra, no matter how chaotic and senseless it manifests.
Yes he's an Ardra Moon.
Tumblr media
It's always interesting how nakshatras with the same planetary rulership can share the same themes, despite the differences in their ruling deities. The film, Joker (2019), criticizes how society treats its ostracized members. And the character Arthur Fleck, being played by Swati Sun Joaquin Phoenix, unintentionally (and unknowingly) drives pure anarchy in the streets. Becoming the face of a movement spawned around him, called 'Jokerism'. And these masks, just like in MR. ROBOT (fsociety), V For VENDETTA, make the symbol of the movement.
Tumblr media
I also find it interesting that Zoro is a masked vigilante who fights against the injustice and victimization of the lower class and indigenous people. Shatabhisha can act as a saviour in this case, more than what is seen from Ardra and Swati.
Tumblr media
The character Hobie Brown being voiced by Shatabhisha Sun Daniel Kaluuya in the new Spiderverse film. Interesting enough, Shatabhisha being Aquarius can also have chaotic, rebellious and even anarchist tendencies. Aquarius emphasizes individualism, roots for the underdog and can absolutely despise authority – especially the corrupt kind (but mostly it's fuck all authority).
Tumblr media
The nakshatra also being co-ruled by Rahu, they can see through illusions and have a simple yet realistic approach to things (Saturn). There is defiance there in Shatabhisha, but rarely ever as erratic or angry as Ardra. In fact, Shatabhisha is more on what's morally right and wrong compared to Ardra where a dualistic nature is conveyed. Shatabhisha has a tougher framework, can be very virtuous.
Shatabhisha is ruled by the deity Lord Varuna who is the personification of divine authority and moral law. The theme of authority can manifest in several ways for Shatabhisha. Rebellion against authority can go to the extreme ends of violence and unlawfulness. Or it can go into activism. Critiquing the many issues in the world that are glaringly wrong and unfair (what the modern internet now calls 'wokeism'). Themes of rebellion or exposure in a political and societal context can be linked with Swati. This can somewhat be seen in the following medias:

right after graduated, both charles and y/n spending the time a lot together which leads to charles decided to bring y/n to paris, just to propose to her, at her mother's favourite place on earth. her family already gave the blessing long time ago which wasn't a problem for him to do so. pascale also excited hearing the news of accepting a new daughter in-law. y/n decided move in with charles, right after the proposal which before this she lived with grace in monte carlo, and becoming fulltime wag where her only work is just following charles travel the world just for racing. she wanted to be the support that charles needed, which sometime there will be a supporting job needed from her family's company which she will be filling in on work from home mode.
grace decided to join y/n as well since her lover, mateo from her field education days, is a resident there. not wanting to be apart right after graduation, grace also decided to permenantly stay in monte carlo alongside with y/n. right after y/n's wedding with charles, grace finally engage to mateo in the garden where y/n and charles' wedding were held in. both girls were excited and can't wait to see what adventure awaits for them next.
as for amélie, she broke up with her long-term boyfriend when she learnt that he has been cheating on her a few months before the wedding. it was devastating but amélie took it as a sign to move on and pursue into her dreams, which to travel around the world and be a humanitarian. she's happy with it because it opened her eyes that life is worth living if you took a chance to see what others doing with their life.

the morning air breeze slipped through the sliding door that charles opened earlier once he woke up, making the skin of y/n felt the chills of it. y/n patted through the mattress beside her and found that charles wasn't on the bed like he used to, sleeping in. today is the day where f1 got a break called summer break, so this is the only time where charles' busy time will be only training and after that, he will have the time to spend with his beloved ones.
y/n sighed at the absence of charles on bed and she decided to wake up and sit on the bed for a bit. y/n inhaled the fresh air and then exhale it through her mouth. lately her body isn't doing good at all. she has been feeling terribly fatigue and the thought of food makes her want to vomit. she has no slight interest in doing whatever she wants and just want to sleep away the feeling of everything. aside from that, from charles' view, charles noticed that his wife has been in bad mood lately which caused him to be extra careful on his words especially.
also during sex which was two nights ago, charles noticed that y/n became quite hornier than ever. her breasts felt fuller, and her lust for him became wilder. she can't help but keep on sniffing for his scent, his natural scent actually because y/n doesn't like any of charles' perfumes, even the ones she gifted to him which she specifically chose it. then charles realized, it was his sweat that drives his wife crazy. weird but true.
"char?" y/n called as she entered the kitchen and saw charles sitting at the kitchen stool, watching whatever it shows on the television. charles hummed in response and saw his wife walking at his way, which caused him smiling and open his arms wide open. "i think i am ready to go to the clinic." y/n announced as she sat on charles' right lap, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. "really, you feeling okay now?" charles asked back, rubbing his wife's back as she laid her head on his right shoulder. y/n nodded her head yes as she gave charles' neck a peck of kiss. "okay, let's go later on okay?" charles asked and once again, y/n nodded her head yes.
-
"mme leclerc." (mrs leclerc) a nurse called up. y/n stood up from her seat next to charles. charles also stood up and both of them walked into the doctor's office. "comment nous sentons-nous aujourd'hui ?" (how are we feeling today?) the doctor asked as she looked at the couple entering the room. y/n and charles took a seat each in front of the doctor's table. y/n looked at charles and charles nodded his head signalling to 'go on and tell her'.
"j'ai des nausées, de la fatigue et parfois je n'ai plus d'appétit du tout." (i have been feeling nausea, fatigue and sometime i don't have any appetite at all.) y/n explained of what happened as the doctor took note on the health report card. "et comment te sens-tu maintenant?" (and how are you feeling now?) the doctor asked. "un peu bien mais je n'ai toujours pas d'appétit pour manger." (a bit okay but still have no appetite to eat.) y/n replied as she fiddled on her fingers. "je vois. à quand remonte tes dernières règles?" (i see. when was your last period?) the doctor asked again, and this time both y/n and charles were taken back by the question.
ever since the wedding, they haven't keep any track of y/n's period. "je ne me souviens pas." (i don't remember.) y/n admitted shyly as she looked down on her lap making the doctor giggled. "pas besoin d'être gênée mme leclerc." (no need to be embarrassed mrs leclerc.) the doctor told her as she pulled a small cup from her drawer and placed on the table. "j'ai besoin que tu fasses pipi dans cette tasse et que tu la donnes au labo là-bas et que tu attendes le résultat, d'accord?" (i need you to pee in this cup and hand it to the lab back there and wait for the result, okay?) the doctor instructed and y/n nodded her head yes, grabbing the cup. "ok, merci docteur." (alright, thank you doctor.) y/n thanked as she and charles stood up and left the room.
both of them walked along the hallway to the toilet and charles let go of y/n's hand. "just go, i wait for you here." charles told her. y/n nodded her head yes and entered the toilet. as she entered the toilet, y/n exhaled. entered to one of the booths, y/n unzipped her pants and pulled down her legs. she placed the cup between her legs as she focused on her peeing. sounds weird but it is weird when you need to pee for a purpose instead of nature call.
right after the business was done, y/n exited the toilet and placed the cup at the lab's counter nearby the toilet. y/n saw charles sat at one of the benches and came to go sit next to him. y/n grabbed charles' left arm and hug it. charles combed through y/n's hair as he kissed it. "nervous?" y/n asked charles as she looked up at him. charles chuckled. "whatever the result going to be, i believe it is in our favour." charles replied, making y/n bit her upper lip, as an act of expressing nervous.
"mme leclerc." the nurse called again.
-
celebrating at pascale's house for arthur's podium in monaco grand prix, the party was attended by everyone they know, including y/n's family came from nice and also san fransisco. "everyone, may i have your attention please." charles announced as he clicking on his wine glass. the attention now focused at charles, which made him kind of nervous. as people were anticipating, making charles chuckled where y/n immediately rushed her way to charles for support.
"as you all far known, my wife and i have been married for such a long time now and in God's will, we will be having our own next ferrari driver next year." charles announced, making some of the guests gasped in surprise, cheering and most importantly, both pascale and arthur rushed their ways to charles and y/n. pascale hugged both her son and daughter in-law as arthur patted charles' back, yelling "congrates bro!" making both charles and y/n chuckled.
in the late night, where they are now in their cozy home, charles pressed y/n against the wall in their hallway where charles hold his wife's head in his hands. charles, who didn't waste any more time, leaned in to his wife's lips which fits perfectly. the kiss became more hungrily than ever as y/n's moves up to charles' body to unbutton his shirt. charles deepened the kiss as he bit the bottom lip of y/n which caused her to gasp which allowing charles to tangle his tongue with his wife's. as she pushed off the shirt of charles, y/n's hands move up to charles' head where she grabbed on charles' dark brown hair, making charles groans, let go of her lips.
y/n who pushed her husband off her and grabbed charles' hands, pulled him towards their bedroom where y/n pushed him on their bed. y/n grabbed the hem of her dress and pulled if off of her, which she threw at charles' direction, gently. charles pulled it off his sight and the bed deepened with y/n's weight as she crawled onto charles' laps which makes charles wrapped his arms around his wife's waist. charles moved his hands up to where the bra's hook placed behind his wife's back and in swift, he unhooks it. he let go of his wife's bra where the bra left the bed to the floor. the view of his wife's breasts exposed to his eyes which makes charles gulped and examined his wife's breasts. he admired how y/n's breasts look different from how it looked in bra and how it looked now. especially now that they are expecting a baby, charles learned that a woman's breasts will change according to how the pregnancy goes, which makes his wife's breasts will grow fuller than how it is now.
leaning in for kisses with y/n on his laps, charles' right hand grabbed onto y/n's left breast where he leaned into his lips, kissing around the areola. y/n whimpered at the feel of her husband's lips on her breast. "char.." y/n moaned out which caused her gripped on charles' hair scalp, making charles groaned while suckling.
charles' left hand balanced his wife, which he placed on her back, on his laps as his right hand went south to feel onto his wife's wetness through her panties. y/n moaned at the feeling of charles' finger teasing as she leaned her forehead onto charles' left shoulder. she grabbed charles' teasing hand and led it into her panties where charles took control of it and use his pointer finger to lightly poke his wife's bundle of nerve, making his wife whimpering in his left arm. wrapping her arms around her husband's shoulder, y/n tighten her hug as charles speed up his teasing, making y/n unsettling in her seat.
"charles ... please." y/n whimpered out, her left arm reached for her back to the hem of her panties and eventually pulled the elastic band down from her butt which makes charles' right hand helped her pulled the panties along the way to her legs. as her bottom was free, automatically y/n's legs spread out, presenting her pussy to her husband. charles' breath starting to increase and the erection in his pants starting to pulsating as well as if he felt it starting to erect growing, wanting to be free from it confinement. charles looked at his wife's face and he could see how much drunkard his wife turned into, drunk in love. charles placed his lips on his wife's as his pointer and middle fingers went straight to y/n's pussy, entering the fingers at the entrance, making y/n groaned in satisfaction as her hips follow charles' pumping the pussy.
squirming, y/n dragged her hands towards charles' pants and gripped the hem of the pants around his waist. unbuttoned the pants, y/n dragged the pants down to charles' butt. lifting up the butt and pulling his fingers out of his wife's pussy, charles continued on pulling his pants and boxer off, freeing the confined erection. as the pants off, y/n immediately grabbed her husband's erection and slowly pumping it, causing charles hissing in pleasure. "sweetheart..." charles exhaled as he grabbed his wife's wrists. "tonight is about you, you're the center of attention." charles informed as he pushed his wife gently, laid on the bed on her back as his left hand grabbed his erection, continued on pumping it gently and a small wetness came from the tip of it. spreading it as a small lubrication, charles placed his growing erection on his wife's pussy, moving it back and forth as it creating a small pleasure for the pair.
the room filled with moans and groans as the hot air of monte carlo mixed with the heat of the moment, where y/n grabbed the erection of her husband and poke her entrance where charles continued it with slowly pushed it in, creating more pleasure for both of them. as charled groaned in pleasure and couldn't wait to aggresively pound on his wife, he saw his wife grabbed onto her breasts as she tried to creating more pleasure by stimulating the nipples. charles who is turning on even more, placed his hands on his wife's hands which she removes hers and grabbed his arms, charles moaned even more as he could see how turned on his wife is, making him pumping his wife a bit more aggressive.
y/n groaned even more as she try to reach for charles' back, clawing him as she spreading out her legs even more, bending it while charles moving back and forth entering and exiting from her pussy, which they could here the sound of it. y/n bending her back forward as charles lowering his hands down on y/n's body as he placed it at her waist while y/n's hands placed on charles' shoulders, pulling him down leaning for kisses. charles sighed in pleasure as he peppering kisses on his wife's lips. feeling trembling like a sudden jitter, y/n knew that she was about to reach her orgasm. as for charles, his eyebrows furrowed, wanting to delay his orgasm.
"char, i-i'm going to c-cum." y/n whimpered in between breaths and moans as she continues to claw charles' back. charles, who hissing in pleasure, placed his hands between his wife's head as he lowered down his head to hover his wife's head. "look at me mon amour, open your eyes." charles instructed, breathing out the words as he is also about to cum. lightly, y/n opened her eyes and saw the most green-blueish eyes she had ever seen and do pray that their child also blessed with the same eyes as well. "cum mon amour." charles instructed once again and this time, y/n approaching her orgasm. as her body is trembling in pleasure, y/n could feel a huge relief being made as the relief was creating a mess. still approaching his high, charles slowed his movement as he placed his face in the crook of his wife's neck, inhaling her scent. a mixture of natural scent and faint smell of perfume she wore before, fading a bit. as charles could feel it, soon he release it inside of his wife and stayed there until he calmed down a bit.
exhaling their breath, it felt like a massive workout they ever did together before for a charity marathon that the company made, right before they were married. the verdict, charles was y/n's personal masseur.
"ready to be a daddy, papa?" y/n whispered as she stroked back charles' front hair to the back. "as ready as i ever be maman." charles replied, taking y/n's hand and kissed it.

For this last day of celebration of Velvet Goldmine's 25th anniversary, I wanted to talk about why Velvet Goldmine is such an important movie to me. Nowadays shows and movies have gotten much better with their representation of marginalized groups, it's not always perfect, but it's definitely better than even just a decade ago. Growing up and seeing queer characters in mainstream media that, unless created to be a punchline or demonized, were sterilized and surrounded by a cast of cishet people with no connection to other queer people (maybe a partner but that's it), can give the wrong ideas to queer kids. Making it seem like queer people aren't a community but just a couple of random individuals in an otherwise heterosexual world, it's not only unrealistic but it creates a sense of isolation, forever the ugly duckling that never meets other swans. The lack of good representation is harmful to queer kids that might feel like they're never gonna find other people like them, this is the reason that token representation in media is not enough, it means nothing when a character's whole purpose is to show that queer people exist as a monolithic mass of sassy side-characters. For this reason, media about queer people made by queer people is extremely important because it shows different queer realities. In Velvet Goldmine's case, not only is the movie itself representation, but the story it tells is also about representation as seen from a young queer fan's perspective and how it affects him.
Tumblr media
Seeing Brian and Curt be openly queer gives Arthur much more confidence in his own identity, this is shown when he imagines himself coming out to his parents through Brian's interview and when he goes out dressed like he wants and searches for the other glam kids. Even if both times he stops himself, in the first case because of his parents judgemental stares directed at Brian, and in the second case he's probably intimidated by the other kids that have been comfortable in their identities for much longer than him (which is kind of taken from Todd Haynes' own experience, in this interview he says that the older glitter girls were intimidating to him in middle school). This serves to show how representation can help the people that can't immediately be out and proud, because even if Arthur can't come out or make other queer friends he can find solace in Brian and Curt's music and general media presence, which is not only openly queer but sexual too. Later in the movie we will also see Arthur finally being able to be his true self and find his community in London, so it's not a surprise then seeing Arthur become a journalist when it was the interviews, magazines and newspapers that he'd read in his youth that helped him gain confidence in himself.
Tumblr media
But for the viewer Arthur is he himself representation, his struggles and journey a mirror of the experiences of many young queer fans. For me personally the scene where Arthur tells his parents that he's going out and then sneakily takes off his jacket and goes out dressed like he wanted to be has always been the most relatable, him being happy walking in the crowd with his head held high reminds me of my first pride, even if I was too scared to approach anyone simply being surrounded by queer people and being able to be myself put me at ease, and later trying not to cry on the train back home while I took off anything that had rainbows on it and lying to my parents about where I had been, it's probably one of the biggest reasons I am so attached to Velvet Goldmine, I saw myself in it in a way I'd never seen in any other media before. Even 25 years after it's creation Velvet Goldmine's representation is still better than that of some recent media, because it doesn't shy away from showing the sad, the sexual and, most importantly, the happy parts of queer life. In the end, seeing Arthur go through a lot of different difficult situations both in his youth and in his adulthood and still manage to push through it all and find some connections with other queer people, first in London and then in the 80s when he's reunited with Curt, that gives me hope that no matter what we're all going through, we will keep making it, and most importantly it's a reminder that, to quote a Bowie song, you're not alone.

What Kind of King is in my Blood?
Context: this piece was inspired by the song "In My Blood." sung by Joel Smallbone from Journey to Bethlehem (the movie). And contains the lyrics of the song.
Warning: content contains blood (mild) & implied physical abuse... the more graphic scenes to be underneath the keep reading section of the post... if you are uncomfortable with such things.
I've mentioned this before in a previous post & please check out the original video (have a listen: it's incredible). Or better yet, put it on while reading the comic. :D
I do suggest you read: Celestine is Merlin before this;
Young Arthur... was not a good person in the sightless and was very close to becoming a mini-Sir Uther. And I also would like to stress how evil Sir Uther is...(Uther is not Arthur's father, but the song just fits them so...)
Behind the arrogance and pride, his actions were a tie of wanting and seeking Uther's approval...
Other than that, please enjoy the content.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Background info: this takes place around the time Arthur starts to take a liking to Merlyn and even trust them (and before he found out Merlyn was Lady Celestine). Soon their game of cat & mouse blossomed into a friendship...
Celestine never put pressure on Arthur to change: in fact, she tried to save Nonsurat & Morgan, too... she'd put them in scenarios where she'd see them grow empathy. (Putting someone in another's shoes.)
She'd show them the damage the war was doing to the public... and the innocent.
Allowing them all the chance to do good but in the end...The only one who was receptive to it was Arthur. Which surprised her... she believed Arthur would be the last person who would be captivated by the lesson. (Since he was Uther's most loyal soldier... his right-hand man...)
When it was clear that the lessons were only effective for Arthur (and the only one who was willing to change), she started to tailor them for Arthur. Genuinely started by doing vigilante work with Merlyn and learning more about this "outside world he never knew about."
(Unbeknownst to these goobers these were pretty much the equivalent of dates.)
However, Arthur couldn't help but feel guilty that he was betraying his master (Uther). That all changed, however, after a certain mission...
Arthur & Company were tasked to clear a demon infestation of a cave. Which held serval rare artifacts that were stolen. Some of Nightmare's monsters had made it into a stronghold (a secret base), and Arthur was in charge of clearing it. Morgan tried to trap Arthur in the deeper, darkest part of the cave where the majority of the monsters were dwelling.
Thankfully, Celestine secretly tagged along with him!
It took them a week... to escape the cave ... everyone had started to assume that Arthur had died during the mission. He was about to report his return as soon as he arrived at the camp base until... he overheard a very upsetting conversation.
Sir Kay (Kit Cosmo): Sir Uther! Sir Arthur is still missing, we can't leave just yet...
Sir Uther: He's been missing for a week... we only have three days left on this planet, and we need to finish recovering the reset of the artifacts... our time & manpower is limited.
Kit Cosmo: It that's the case... I'd be more than willing to take a small team to recover him... heck, I'll even go there by myself if I have to...
Sir Uther: DID YOU NOT HEAR WHAT I SAID! I am not wasting manpower... are you questioning my judgment?
Kit Cosmo: NO SIR!* Nevourly but still firm* I just thought you'd press the issue more... he's our captain and, more importantly, your right-hand man-
Sir Uther: WHY do you think you have two other apprentices... he's replaceable...If he died out there then he's a failure that deserves to be left... DON'T NOT BOTHER LOOKING FOR HIM!
You're lucky I have more pressing issues to attend to or that right arm or yours would've been charred... This conversation is over! *leans into Kit menacingly* YOU'RE DISMISSED! *Kit lets out a big gulp and backs away out of the tent*
Little did they know Arthur & Celestine (Merlyn) were listening in on the conversation. With Celestine fuming... and with Arthur shaking...
Celestine (currently disguised as Merlyn): WHY THAT FAT HEADED TYRANT! Don't listen to him, you're- Arthur? *sees Arthurs gone* Arthur...
Arthur runs off to contemplate... his mind reeling from what he had just heard. He always knew that Uther saw him as nothing more than a tool. The title of the right hand was just merely a cover-up... a lie made by Sir Uther (that he was something to him). He always knew this, but he couldn't understand why this still hurt him so much.
Arthur, at his core... still just wanted to be praised and desperately wanted at least a shred of affection from Uther. Hearing this broke him instantly... and forced him to look inside himself. He may have always known it... but a part of him always wanted to believe in the lie... So he put this facade of pride and arrogance to ignore it.
Only realizing how much Uther took advantage of his desire for affection from him... allowing him (Uther) to mold him into what he wanted. The brilliant golden amor (that Uther gave him), was all part of the illusion... he was no hero... he was just a monster... just like his master... just like Uther...
This leads us to this scene...
-The key things I wanted to mention were those marks on Arthur's shoulders are burn marks...
-Those bubbles at the end represent Celestine's influence
-I featured a Kirby-sized baby Arthur with a little training armor... it's pretty much his inner child... Sweet little bean didn't deserve this
-I also updated Uther's shoes :3
At this point, Celestine already cares for Arthur so much, and he's already redeemed himself (in her eyes). But Arthur can't help but hate himself for his past actions now seeing the full picture...
He destroyed himself for a man... who would never care for him... Arthur couldn't help but feel ashamed. He felt so disgusted with himself... forgetting all the progress he'd made... Believing himself to be a worthless puppet...
And it broke her heart to see Arthur like this... that's why she reminds him of what she sees him as. And this is where Arthur finally breaks down his final wall and truly opens himself up. Celestine always saw Arthur as a more than worthy king and always saw the best in him... and that's why Arthur always saw her (in the future) as his queen...
"Did I put too much characterization to a background character we only saw for less than 5 minutes in the anime?" YES, I DID!
"Was it worth it?" YES IT WAS!
(In the KBASW) Sir Arthur is the one who approves and legitimizes the "Star Allies" because if someone like him could be changed for the better... why can't this rag-tag group. Sir Arthur (in a sense) is the first "redeemed villain"...
It just took one person to see the good in him... I really can't wait to explore their relationship (Celarthur) more... I have something special planned for them in February. And I do want to explore Kit Cosmo & Arthur's friendship: it's really fun~
(The Star Allies are going to be the equivalent of the Knights of the Round Table in KBASW, but I'll explore that later...)
Hope you all stick around to see how the story unfolds...

Taylor Nick Variant Universe Brain Rot Part 2
Remember this? When I went unhinged and started coming up with an iPartment-inspired Taylor/Nick characters crossover rom-com universe???
WELL I GOT AROUND WORLD BUILDING, BUT I KIND OF NEED SOME HELP/INPUT
And yes I handwrote my ideas on paper that is my real handwriting I just think better when I write physically
So three parts:
Part 1: Family Relations
Tumblr media
Explanation:
I made some of the characters relatives because of convenience and because it was fun
Henry's family follows the movie version, so Henry's surname is Hanover-Stuart Fox
Both the King from RWRB and the King from M&G are named James lol (the former James III of the UK; the latter James I&VI of England and Scotland), both bear the name Stuart but it's fucking weird for brothers to have the same name so I made Hanover-Stuart a joint surname only for Catherine and her children: Henry's Grandfather is a Hanover, Henry's Grandmother is a Stuart, George's lover/sugar daddy is Henry's Grandmother's younger brother
Robert (Cinderella; Nick) is from a (trashy) musical theatre movie and since Arthur Fox is an actor, I gave him a stage actress sister who's Robert's mother: Henry and Robert are cousins
During the pillow talk scene in RWRB Alex mentioned his father has a sister so I made said sister Marco's (The Kissing Booth; Taylor) mother: Alex and Marco are cousins
Part 2: Jobs/Studies
Tumblr media
Explanation
Alex and Henry are what they are
At the end of KB3 Marco said he wanted to go to New York and become a musician so yeah
Robert is from a musical so might as well make that his study
Being a sugar baby is the best way I can translate George's situation into a modern setting
Henry's parents are as they are, with the modification that Catherine is a professor at Oxford
Oscar Diaz is as he is
Arthur's sister/Robert's mother is a stage actress
Questions/Input/Help Please
What music school in New York can Marco go to? I only know Julliard but it seems a little too unrealistic
I don't know how the American government system so if Ellen isn't president what position can I put her in? Senator too? Or something else?
What job works for Henry's grandfather and James Stuart? Does old money work? What's a modern substitute for a monarch?
George was historically a really good dancer and we're gonna see that in M&G, does it make sense to translate that into a club dancer or something? I ask as someone who has never in her life gone to a club
Part 3: Living Arrangements
Tumblr media
Explanation:
I want them to be roommates? The fic and the show that inspired this idea was the characters living in two neighbouring apartments: 1 with 4 residents and 1 with 3 residents
I kind of want to start with all of Nick's characters in one apartment and all of Taylor's in another, then maybe mix it up as relationships develop
So for the 4-person apartment right now I have Henry and Robert
For the 2 or 3-person apartment I have Alex and Marco
George, as a sugar baby, has James giving him a luxurious loft where he lives on his own
Question:
I... don't really know how apartments in New York/ the states work? My understanding of an apartment is like one complex with a living room, dining room, bedrooms, kitchen and washrooms, and one floor of one building has a couple of those for each floor. Is the States the same? 'Cause yall live in houses and we don't really have that here? The building my apartment is in has 42 floors and each floor has 8 apartments.
Suggestion for roommates for each apartment? I need 2 Nick characters and 1 Taylor character who would be reasonable enough to share a new York flat with college students
Final Question:
Suggestion for a name for this universe/fic?

ok dune 2 post. obviously spoilers you know i don't give a shit. there is nothing i can say to you now that could possibly "ruin" your movie going experience should you decide to see dune 2. or maybe there is. i don't care though either you're reading my monster ass post or you're not. but i'm very nice and beautiful and kind so i added a read more <3 just keeping it really niceys <3
FIRST thing i want to say is that men are reacting to these movies in a way that is so diabolically insane to me i don't think i will ever be able to understand the underdeveloped male human brain. that was mean sorry. i hate men though and i think they're less intelligent than normal people. sorry. have you seen what men are saying about dune though. you understand. "it's the greatest triumph of cinema i've ever seen!" like calm down ryan it's dune part two.... we're not talking about the hunger games catching fire rn you can talk about the movie like a normal human being talks about things... yes it was good. it was also only the second best timothee chalamet film released in the past six months... and as i've said. the world at large will forget about dune like two years after the last movie, i'm sorry, but we will... we are not all male sci-fi fanatics peace and love
so what did EYE like about it! well i love zendaya <3 i love zendaya so much, not enough to watch spiderman, but a lot. i lovedd that she had a bigger role in part two (both me and my mom were sooo disappointed at how little she was in part one), and i especially loved how her role provided this point of contest to paul's messiah status, where his mother and stiglar are like, true believers, chani is the skeptic because she knows he's still only a man not a god, because she loves him as a man!!! it was crazy. also they were in crazy beautiful tragic love... (side note we can come back to this later if the need arises. their asses are GOING in the timeless video remake. spent a good ten minutes of the movie's runtime thinking about this fr) i really loved their relationship and their dynamic, idk anything about the books btw i want that out there as a disclaimer now. anyway i loved the drama of their whole thing it was craytown insane. the way he didn't want to go south and solidify his becoming as the people's messiah because he knew that if he became that he would lose her, and ultimately that's exactly what happened... "i will love you as long as i breathe" as his final words to her before enacting this plan to take over from the emperor by marrying the princess... ok that was insane. in many ways this happened to a friend of mine. by the name of. guinevere.... unless you're all here for my gay king arthur theory in which case. in many deeper ways this happened to my friend arthur. but i'm not supposed to talk about that because the people aren't ready. (i do genuinely and truly in my heart of hearts believe that king arthur is gay and i mean it in a way completely divorced from bbc merlin i didn't even want to bring up bbc merlin it makes me so mad how that show corrupted gay king arthur, i don't mean it like that. EYE mean that it's gay as fuck to be a man with an older brother. but we aren't talking about that). basically. kind of a tragedy slay... rooting for them in. deep sigh. movie three.
a thing i DID NOT like was the whole deal with. austin butler. i did not learn his character's name, don't care, he's dead anyway. it's not even that any of it was bad it was just boring. and there was that whole section on him too and i was like ugh this could have been a two minute scene wrap it UP! you may have noticed i was posting while in the theater. yeah i was posting from that section of the movie. because i was BORED. yes there was some vital info in that part, but i also believe it could have been explained in a significantly lesser amount of time!!! me in denis villieneuve's editing room screaming "cut it!!!!" it's boring... i'm sorry... i was bored and i don't care about the harkonnens (? i'm not looking that spelling up) and i don't care that that cult lady "secured his bloodline" by going to his birthday party and seducing him... i don't careeee about the harkonens!!!!
a thing i DID like was rebecca ferguson's deal. she was soooo. i mean she was terrible, of course, insane bitch for real. also i want her so bad but that's not relevant. loved her schemes. love it when a character starts playing god. and she got what she wanted in the end too! was that a good thing? unclear. but god forbid women do anything!
can i say something is this a safe space. i don't care about the worms the way a lot of people seem to care about the fuckin worms... they're cool i guess? but what is with the fascination with the sand worms... i don't get it. i'm gonna leave this point here cuz frankly what more is there to say
there seems to be a disconnect between two camps of people on timmy's actual messiah status in the narrative. i've seen people refer to the character as jesus and i've seen people call him a false prophet, and it all made me so confused i read the entire wikipedia entry for the original dune novel and the article for the larger dune chronicles. and i've come to the conclusion that yes he was literally the ultimate manifestation of powers the bene gesserit were trying to cultivate, and he did become a leader, but i wouldn't be so quick to call him jesus because he's only jesus because the bene gesserit wove their agenda into the religious legends and prophecies of the fremen people to be able to control them through it. so it was kind of all propaganda. but his abilities are very real and he DID want to help the fremen break free from harkonenn persecution. so i wouldn't call him a false prophet. i think the thing with the uh. "water of life" (it's worm piss. it's sand worm piss. it's gatorade blue, straight up fresh from the worm piss. i'm sorry) and he drank it and gave him visions of the future and he was like "i see it all so clearly now" and all that. i think that's real, he can see the futures and he knows he can play an important role and he wants to prevent war (flopped btw) and that's why he leaned into the messiah rhetoric, because it was easy i guess, and the people already believed it. i wouldn't call him evil or corrupt i'd just say he was trying to be realistic through the means he was raised (and remember that his mother raised him for war and power). um it's complicated. do i think there's a jesus metaphor? obviously there is. do i think he's really like. The Messiah? well no, because it's textually true that there was never REALLY a prophesized messiah, it was all just stories put into motion generations before he ever existed. that being said i wouldn't call it fake per se. lot's of interesting stuff is going on here with regards to religion to be honest. does it matter what's real? do we not each control our own perceived reality? does saying it's not real rob the believers of their choice? does it matter that the people were told to believe in him as a way to control them? does it matter that they made the beliefs their own anyway? what is religion? what is god? if i had more time on my hands i'd get deep into dune just to get into arguments online this summer about this shit.
i'd be interested to see how it all unfolds in a third movie, but as i understand that's not a confirmed thing that's happening and frankly i already read the wikipedia article about it so i guess i do already know how it unfolds. but i'll see the eventual movie anyway i guess.
the thing with the "atomics" was wild to me though i was like hey man i do not think a jesus figure would launch atom bombs... but to be fair i think they set those bombs on a mountain? and people were only killed via the rubble? that's obviously still bad i'm aware but i mean. well actually i don't know if that's what happened. the bombs only killed the bad guys though so who gives a shit. sorry. but those bald dudes were creepy i'm sorry they sucked so bad i don't care that a lot of them died in a war that they started. it's a movie. were they atomic bombs though? they called them "atomics" so i did assume they were fucking. oppenheimer atomic bombs. or is this such a distant future that they've advanced technology and undergone so many linguistic changes that words don't mean the same things anymore. i think however that i fully just overthought that. anyway whatever on the bombs i don't wanna talk about bombs
um getting back to my girl chani. "i will love you as long as i breathe" for real she should get to kill him a little bit for all of that shit i am not gonna lie to you. i was reading these wikipedia articles seeing the word "concubine" thinking to myself oh he should die. call me pontius pilate the way i am about to kill this fucking christ figure. i understand it narratively, i get it. i understand that he marries the princess for political reasons but he loves chani i understand that. but i am gonna tell you one thing right now and you need to hear this. cassandra would never pull something like that. and if you wanna talk to ME about an expansive fantasy universe totalling over a dozen books, you are gonna have to go through cassandra there. no one will ever be cassie, not to me, you'll never do the things cassie has done, i don't care who you are i don't care how influential to sci-fi dune is. if you're gonna come to me and be all oh dune was influential for sci-fi, i'm gonna come right back at you and say the shadowhunter chronicles was influential for urban fantasy. there is not a weird middle school girl out there who's life was not affected by cassandra clare. that woman is like a deity to me. i don't care about what men write, SHE is huge to ME. and she would never pull that shit. she would never, and she would rather die. peace and love. i hate men
and you know what let's all back it up for a moment. and when i said. timeless video. oh i meant that, as i said i spent ten minutes just straight up thinking about this comparison. my ultimate conclusion is that paul has the kit herondale swag (but if kit was written by a man. you understand). chani does not so much have ty blackthorn swag but she is kind of a cunt which was good enough for me tbh. the way that like. she was a fremen warrior above everything, even him, was very ty to me though, in the sense that he's a shadowhunter who like, IS a shadowhunter. we have shadowhunters like say, simon, who aren't so much suited to the shadowhunter way of life (because it is an entire way of life, it's not just being a human plus some magic, being a shadowhunter is a whole different class of existence completely unlike ours) but they're a shadowhunter because that's just the hand life dealt them. and then there are shadowhunters who are real, passionate, believing in the cause shadowhunters, and that's gonna be like. isabelle, cordelia, jace, emma. and ty. there are characters who, if they stopped being a shadowhunter they would survive, and there are characters who would not know a way to be without it. (sorry girl gonna interrupt you. this was a dune post? a post about the movie dune part two? um stop rambling about tsc...) ok. basically chani has that drive of caring so much about what she is (fremen) and what she can do. and i love how i gave that a whole paragraph explanation but with paul i just said "yeah he has that kit herondale swag nothin more to say" (sidenote. the audiobook i read the other day has been sticking with me to such an extent that. ok there was one character who i guess was meant to be from new jersey and the narrator was doing this crazy voice for him which was so fun and iconic i have been talking to myself in my head with that voice ever since for real and serious... i get a real kick out of it. and that last sentence pre parentheses was meant to be read in that voice so. imagine an exaggerated sort of goon-like jersey accent)(um just went to the little wiki page for this character to verify the new jersey thing. his dad's from jersey that's not important. under relationships. "they clearly have an abusive relationship" hey now... what fucking. lame fangirl wrote this... they were just homoerotically vibing in a toxic fucked up way... rolling eyes emoji. people didn't understand it...) anyway. um he does have the kit herondale swag. you know. in the simple sense that everybody is telling him he has this Destiny and he really didn't want it. kit would never drink that fuckass worm piss though. actually lie, he might. speaking of the worm piss. not the substance i mean the part of the movie where he almost died from it because it's literally poison and he knew that and drank it anyway. me when i have an exaggerated sense of self worth. me when it's literally poison but i'm different <3 anyway. when chani found him in that coma and jessica was like Only You Can Wake Him because like. some prophecy shit with "tears of the desert spring" and her secret name meant desert spring and she had to cry on him to save him from something she never wanted him to do. and that was effectively the moment that killed their relationship. that was crazy stuff girls...
not much more to say. oh. i must bring up the redacted of it all, of course, i mean naturally. this movie, above all other things i liked about it more than part one, had the added bonus of NOT being "from the ******* edits". watching part one was a constant game of "oh yeah i've seen this one" "classic c****** r***** edit clip!" "oh yeah the hair in his face with a dark expression in his eyes we've all seen it" like it was nice to watch a dune movie that was about dune. you know.

The Acceptance of Violence in the Wizarding World
I haven't played Hogwarts Legacy, but I've heard a lot of people talk about how nonchalantly the player character murders people in increasingly fucked up ways, and nobody in-universe seems to give much of a crap. I'd like to explain why that might be perfectly in line with the way the wizarding world works.
So! From an early age, witches and wizards are likely exposed to a something that may negatively affect their sense of empathy. Paintings. Paintings are like some Who Framed Roger Rabbit shit, animated characters complete with personalities able to interact with the real world. If Walt Disney had been a wizard, they'd have cinemas by now.  Paintings and even photographs in the wizarding world move around within their frame, and some can even travel beyond. They can speak, they can react emotionally, and can even be trained to mimic the person depicted like training an AI to pretend to be a dead celebrity. The magical community learns early on that no matter how convincing a depiction of a person is, they're not alive. So things that look like humans aren't necessarily sentient or sapient.
But pictures are just one thing, right? That's not much of a connection to real living things. Well, let me introduce you to a lovely book written by Newt Scamander. That's right, it's Fantastic Beasts time! The movie series that would have been much improved if David Yates hadn't cut all those important scenes because when you read the screenplay they're ten times better than the Harry Potter movies ever were and the decision not to continue the five part saga is grounds for a terror attack on WB studios. Wait, what were we talking about? Oh yeah. Animals.
The wizarding world is full of creatures that look like humans to some degree! And I don't just mean vampires and centaurs. Gnomes are pests in the wizarding world. Imagine walking out into your back garden and there's a bunch of tiny naked fat men running around shitting on your lawn and gnawing on your house's foundations. They're a serious pest in the wizarding world, and while they appear humanoid and can even speak, they're non-sapient and it's perfectly legal to get rid of them by setting loose a magic talking weasel on them. Then you can take a photo of the weasel devouring your tiny man-pests and hang it on the wall to replay the event for all eternity. The weasel is, of course, also non-sapient despite its power of speech.
There are also Doxies, tiny naked people with extra limbs and wings that hide in your curtains and bite you with venomous fangs. They and fairies both have developed languages, and both can be killed with insecticide if you want to get rid of them because they're considered non-sapient and have no rights either. Pogrebins, ogres, trolls, erklings... So then, why is it so strange for wizards to just accept House Elf slaves? Their bigotry against goblins, centaurs, and mermaids definitely doesn't seem all that strange for the world in which they live.
Finally, I'd like to talk about Conjuration. Wizards and witches can wave their wands around and poof an animal into existence. A whole fucking animal. Now, if one reads Miranda Goshawk's Book of Spells, they'll find that conjured animals aren't real and will fade away after a while. This amount of time is indeterminate. Some can last until the caster them self passes away. But they look so real!
Ultimately, wizards and witches are surrounded by things that look like them, sound like them, and act like them but aren't even sapient. They're also surrounded by things that appear alive but that life is a matter of illusion. Indeed, even otherwise inanimate objects can appear to develop personalities over time (see: Arthur Weasley's Ford Anglia). But they're not alive. In a world like this, the magical community can easily become detached and lose a sense of value for life, because so often life turns out to be nothing more than an illusion. So when 20th century wizards are happily throwing around buzz-saw flying discs that can take people's fingers off, it's not too surprising that 18th century wizards might turn each other into barrels of gunpowder and yeet them into a crowd.

In a town like London, there are nobodies and there are somebodies. Preceding a somebody, there is a crime that makes them who they are today.
As John Berger has once remarked, every city has a sex and an age which have nothing to do with demographic. In this case, London is a man in his 40's with an educated background and a peculiar fascination with crime. Or so, that's how Belladonna describes her last 4 years on London, with that analogous thought.
Being an up and coming actress, Belladonna's once mundane life has gradually become more and more . . . strange. Becoming increasingly worried of the oddities that had occurred in her life, she consults with several private detectives who reject her case because it seemed too 'trivial.'
Exasperation almost pushes Belladonna to think that perhaps she scrutinizes her life too much. Before considering surrender, she reads the daily tabloid of The London Times that is thrown at her doorstep. The paper covers the usual; news of the Royal Family, advertisements, international happenings, etc. However, her eyes are immediately drawn to a photo in the corner of the tabloid, an image of a 3 story apartment downtown of London. The heading above prints, 'The Office of the World's Only Consulting Detective.'
Belladonna grabs a ballpoint pen and jots down the details of the article onto a napkin beside her. 𝘓𝘦𝘵'𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘦, 221𝘉 𝘉𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘵, she mentally highlights the address. Belladonna thought, perhaps, there was a sliver of a chance she would finally find someone with interest in her case.
Several questions linger, perhaps most evidently the question of 'Will Sherlock Holmes accept her case?'
But perhaps the question that she should’ve considered the most is what will be of her life after Sherlock Holmes accepts her case? Unsurprisingly, Belladonna will meet incandescent, intangible men in spite of her need to stay vigilant.

hi :) i’m new to tumblr, i write in wattpad usually. my username on wattpad is KISSLANDED. i’ve published this exact fic on there, with little attention, because i feel like i’m in such a niche fandom 🥹 so i’ve decided to see how tumblr is. i hope this is well received:)
this is the link to my story on wattpad. i’ve posted a live action cast of people i think fit guard me sherlock! characters under introductions ;) feel free to read on there, i’m likely going to be more active on there :)
to be CLEAR . . .
i am not inspired by the BBC show or any other show/movie related to this but by the Arthur Conan Doyle books and guard me sherlock! so don't expect a timeline related to those shows, a lot of my content will be original or based on GMS.
i haven't yet decided if i'll create an ending for watson, sherlock, and moriarty, but i guess we'll both go on that journey together, won't we?
thank you for reading and i appreciate any support along the way because it motivates me to publish more parts <3

Disney Month : Mary Poppins
For the second installment of Disney month ,we are gonna look at a film considered Disneys masterpiece ,Mary Poppins,in a special review requested by @the-blue-fairie ,that I had decided to postpone till Disney month
Tumblr media
This 1964 film follows the Banks family who recieve a magical nanny in the form of Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews ) ,who along with Jack of All Trades,Bert (Dick Van Dyke) leads the Banks children on many an outlandish outing to the frustration of the very serious minded patriarch,George Banks (David Tomlinson )
....What do I even say about this movie, its very much beloved and seen as Walt Disneys magnum opus....And I agree, its a great movie, while Ive never been head over heels for it , I do love this movie ,its in my top 10 I think of favorite Disney movies ,top 20 at least .
I think the best way to describe the film is just magical .Part of that magic is the effects ,where they decided to use every trick in the book ,from beautiful matte paintings by the great Peter Ellenshaw ,to animatronics,to stop motion ,to a spectacular animated sequence .In fact I love the magical set pieces which include having a tea party on the ceiling ,climbing smoke above London , and the aforementioned scene where the leads enter an ilustration
I like the flexible reality of the film ,like Mary Poppins isnt just magic the world is a little diffrent. This is a world where when you laugh you float ,chimney sweeps are seeminly magic , and aguy runs his house like a shipand fires a canon everyday and no one bats an eye .I also like we dont get an explination of who Mary Poppins is nor really of who Bert is ,they are just these magical characters (Well Mary is,in this film it is ambiguious if Bert is )who help guide the kids and Mr Banks
Also the cast is just amazing filled with great performers.Filled with really great veteren peroformers, such as Elsa Lanchester as a failed nanny ,Reginald Owen as the aptly named Admiral Boom .Jane Darwell in her final role as the kindly bird woman , and Ed Wynn as the giggling Uncle Albert .Also I like supporting performances by Hermonie Baddley and Arthur Malet ( Who funny enough both would go on to be in the Secret Of NIMH )
Lets talk about the 4 top billed performers ,starting with the one who gets the least amount of screen time Glynis Johns as Winifred Banks, who is a suffragette. I like her performance ,and her song Sister Suffragette is catchy as hell ....But I'm confused if movie is pro suffragette,or mocking suffragettes .I have asked people and looked into it and no one seems to be able to tell ,especially with the ending of her character .I kind oif whish they went a little bit more into her character
David Tomlinson as George Banks ,is the most interesting aspect of the film ,and possibly my favorite performance in the film .In the years since this film the workaholic dad has become a trope ,and usuallly it is done pretty lazily ,but with Banks his problem he has a very rigid narrow way of seeing .He is obsessed with his well ordered little world, that he has become oblivious to not only the emotions of his loved ones but also taking life for granted ,illustrated thorugh the bird woman which leads to possibly the biggest tearjerker in the film .DAvid Tomlinson delivers one hell of a performance ,he nails the snooty repressed banker ,but also nails the befuddled comedy and above all the kind of heartbreaking side of the character as well as having moments of joy .I think he is severely underrated .Also Tomlinson does a few voice roles in the film and he does them realy well
Now while Tomlinson gives the best performance .....I think my favorite character is Bert . Berts a guy with a song in his heart and sunshine in his soul and he is perfect character to play off Mary .Bert is the heart of the film ,while Mary Poppins lays the groundwork for aiding the Banks family,it is Bert ,through two beautiful scenes who gets the ball rolling who helps the children understand their father, the father understand his children . Hes also the comic relief of the film being both goofy but heartfelt ,and Dick Van Dyke is brillaint a t both .ALso in the dance scenes ,HOLY COW ,Dick Van Dyke can move ,and he has great chemistry with Julie Andrewa. Dick Van Dyke also has a second role in the film as the main antagonist Mr Dawes Sr ,who is the verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry elderly boss of George Banks. Not quite a villain ,I wouldnt call him evil but he is a money obsessed old man,he is very much a comical antagonist (Though as a child he creeped me out a tiny bit ) ,and Van Dyke really pulls of a convincing old man performance ,one of my favorite double performances in film
What can I even say about Julie Andrews ,she won a much deserved oscar for this film and it made her a movie star .I find it funny that parodies often depict Mary Poppins as very sweet and this along with Sound of Music gave Julie Andrews a very sugary reputation.....Cause if you watch the movie, while the film is sentimental , Mary Poppins herself is not sugary ,shes very stern,no nonesnese , and a bit cold ,which is a perfect contrast to her more whimsical moments and her magical nature . Also I like that she plants ideas and get characters in position to where they can learn what they need to
The Songs are all brillaint, written by the Sherman Brothers ,there are 15 so I cant talk about them all .Plus several of the songs like Chim Chiminey , Spoonfull of Sugar and Supercalifragelisticexpialidocious are disney classics ,I dont even need to discuss them .I'll talk about my favorite later ,but I'd the most beautiful song is Feed the Birds ,my favorite deep cut is A Man Has Dreams , and the most fun song is I love to laugh, and Jolly Holiday is just very pleasent
I only have nitpicks really :I mentioned the depctions of suffragettes feels confused , but also I think the kid protagonists Jane and Michael are just OK ,I do not like the song Dont Fall Asleep ,and Stepping Time goes on a little too long ....Also Berts cockney accent is very bad .....But I kind of love it
Alright QUESTION TIME ! QUESTION TIME ! @the-blue-fairie has asked me three questions
1-What is your favorite aspect of Julie Andrews' performance?
Anytime she denies the magical stuff she does is friggin funny to me
2-What are your thoughts on Mr. Banks' character arc and what do you think are the strongest elements of Tomlinson's performance?
I think it is a great arc and my favorite part is just how vulnerable he is before the big change. The streach of film starting with A Man Has Dreams and ending at his leaving Mr Dawes office is my favorite part of the film in general ,but specifically his facial expressions as he listens to Bert and realizes his shortcomings as a dad
3-This may be lamely simple but - favorite song and why? :D
Oh god it WAS NOT SIMPLE.I had 15 songs to choose from and picking which one was hard .....Then I remembered the one I loved the most as a child, the one I would sing in moments of joy, cause it is so joyus :Lets Go Fly a Kite
youtube
OVerall....This is one of the greats.....Please watch it if you havent

Anne Bancroft and Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate (Mike Nichols, 1967)
Cast: Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, Katharine Ross, William Daniels, Murray Hamilton, Elizabeth Wilson, Buck Henry, Brian Avery, Walter Brooke, Norman Fell, Alice Ghostley, Marion Lorne, Eddra Gale. Screenplay: Calder Willingham, Buck Henry, based on a novel by Charles Webb. Cinematography: Robert Surtees. Production design: Richard Sylbert. Film editing: Sam O’Steen.
The Graduate and It Happened One Night (Frank Capra, 1934) are both fine examples of the "runaway bride" trope, but there the resemblance ends in irony. In the latter, Ellie (Claudette Colbert) balks at the altar and runs away, veil and train streaming, into the arms of Peter (Clark Gable), but we never see them together: The film ends with the sound of a toy trumpet and we see the "walls of Jericho" blanket falling. It's a gratifying "happy ending," in which order is brought out of chaos, which is the way a romantic comedy is traditionally supposed to end. But in The Graduate the situation is reversed: The wedding that is supposed to restore order ends in chaos, as Benjamin (Dustin Hoffman) arrives to carry off Elaine (Katharine Ross), interrupting the nuptial kiss after the wedding is over. And then we see them together on the bus, as Nichols holds the camera on their faces just a little longer than he might: The smiles on their faces begin to fade, and uncertainty takes hold. We aren't supposed to wonder about what happens to Ellie and Peter, but we can't help feeling the chill of reality fall over Elaine and Benjamin. Watching The Graduate today, I find it a troubling, even cynical treatment of some serious themes. Benjamin, for example, seems to be designed as a comic figure, with his little gulps and tics and his awkwardness when faced with the seductive Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft). But a more sympathetic viewer might diagnose him as clinically depressed, desperately being borne along by the tide of events, just as he's borne along by the moving sidewalk at the airport in the film's beginning, and then trying to avoid the consequences of the freedom he has earned by graduating. He escapes from the adult world into his room, with its burbling fish tank that foreshadows his underwater escape when he's expected to "perform" in the scuba gear he's been presented by his parents. When he does commit himself to a course of action, deciding suddenly and almost arbitrarily that he will marry Elaine, he has clearly lost his mind. And is there a sadder figure in movies than Mrs. Robinson, who lives in alcoholic denial of the disaster her life has become? Bancroft's performance in the scene in which Benjamin tries to get her to open up about her life is simply stunning. The screenplay by Calder Willingham and Buck Henry is the only really funny part of the film, with its classically quotable lines: "Plastics." "Mrs. Robinson, you're trying to seduce me. ... Aren't you?" "I think you're the most attractive of all my parents' friends." It's Nichols's direction that turns our attention to the reality undermining the comedy. The Graduate is often seen as a kind of twin to Bonnie and Clyde (Arthur Penn, 1967): two films that announce an epochal shift in Hollywood, upending audience expectations by addressing themselves to a more sophisticated young audience. As a satire on upper-middle-class life in the mid-20th century that masquerades as a romantic comedy, The Graduate was enormously influential. I just can't make up my mind whether that influence was for the good.

Easy to Manipulate
A Tommy x Alfie snippet
“Fuck you, Tommy. Don’t ask me that.”
“Arthur is still mad about what happened, and to be honest, Alfie, I don’t give two shits about it but if I want this plan to work, then Arthur needs to hear, at the very least, a fake apology.”
Alfie shakes his head in disbelief. “You ask for too fucking much, Tommy.”
“Tell you what,” Tommy moves forward on his seat, arms coming to rest on top of his desk, hands clasped together. “If you apologize to Arthur I’ll let you fuck me right here before I call my brothers in.”
Sex between them has become somewhat of a common occurrence ever since they first met in London, and it had only stopped once Tommy had married Grace. And after her passing, Tommy hasn’t had sex with anyone else.
Alfie would be the first one after Grace.
And the idea of that is too enticing for the man sitting in front of him – that’s how he knows Alfie will comply with what he’s asking of him.
“Come here, you crazy fucker.”
Tommy tries to not look so smug at how easy it is for him to manipulate the other man with sex, as he approaches him.
They are trying to make themselves look presentable and not look like they just finished fucking a few minutes ago, when his brothers walk into the drawing room.
The moment Arthur spots Alfie and tries to run out of the office, any post-coital bliss that Tommy might have had lingering in his body left him rather quickly.
Back to business.
“Arthur, come here.” The older Shelby reluctantly obeys. “Now, Mr. Solomons is here because the next part of my plan involves us working together and before that happens, Alfie would like to say something to you, and I want you to listen, alright?”
Tommy watches in silence, trying not to laugh as Alfie mockingly apologizes to his brother, he sees how his brother gets more on edge by the second but thankfully, by the end of a very long, very fake apology, they each remain seated on their seats and there’s no ashtray being smashed on anyone’s head – he’ll take the win.
Once that apology is out of the way, they are able to move on to talk the business part of the meeting.
“You didn’t need to rile him up that much, you know,” Tommy comments when they are once again alone in the drawing room.
“Yeah, but he makes it so easy.” Tommy simply shakes his head, amused because he knows how easy it is to rile his brother.
“Want to go upstairs?” He asks after a moment of silence.
“Tommy, sweetheart, I love that you think so highly of me but I don’t think I can fuck you again. Not for a little while longer, at least.”
“Well,” Tommy walks around the desk to stand closer to where the other man is sitting. “You can always stay the night. I mean, is late already and is a long drive back to London and we both know how much your sciatica acts up when you sit still for too long in your car,” Tommy says in a fake concerned voice.
“Yeh, it would be nice, yeah, to spend the night. You know, for my sciatica. And bad knee,” Alfie follows Tommy’s games without a second thought.
“That’s right. We can’t forget about your knee.”
“Lead the way, then.” Alfie says as if he’s never before stayed at the house. What follows is an evening filled with moans and pure post-coital bliss.

Humans in the Angel's Friends movie
This point is probably the longest I'll make because I have so many thoughts!
What we saw in three major points:
Romain's behaviour
Romain has so many self-esteem issues that he becomes the worst dick ever. Under pretexts like "I don't want to deceive her", he acts terribly toward Julia and... well toward everyone. The moment where he went too far is definitly when he basically claimed in front of everyone that Kabalé was is new girlfriend while he was still with Julia, basically breaking up with her in public. He was a real dick during the whole movie, first because of Sulfus's influence telling him to lie (but he chose his lies and it's his decision to make them hurtful) and then with Kabalé acting like she's interested in him, making him feel cooler and he just wanted to be the strong alpha male who could joke about everything and was unatanable. To me it was a great continuation of his character tbh I always saw him as this pretentious guy who has no self-esteem but the second people give him attention, he takes it and acts like he's the king of the world. He should have done way more than just say sorry to Julia after all he did
Arthur's behaviour
Dolce's human in season 1 was such a hard job for her because it was impossible to know what he had in mind which is part of the reasons why she had so many difficulties and lost so many times. But in this movie he basically wants Julia to be his "she'll be mine" and decides to create so many things in order to show her he's better than Romain. But in reality, he absolutely doesn't act like he loves Julia but as if he wanted to possess her which is so uncomfortable to watch. In reality, none of the boys is really good and even though I like the idea of a love triangle, here it's not that it was badly done but it was done in such a way that you couldn't root for any of the boys.
Them fighting over Julia without her having anything to say
The worst part about this is that I saw my babygirl suffering during the whole movie without saying anything. This is a terrible decision of the writers because her character isn't to stay silent, she would have said stop a million times to both Arthur and Romain in season 1. Here they just wanted to emphasis the conflict between the boys by making her not react. She actually ended up with the boy she always loved but without questioning his behaviour which, once again is a terrible choice of the scenario.
What I wished we saw in six points:
Matteo and the twins
It's not an euphemism to say we almost never saw Matteo and the twins. They appeared in the caverns because we needed humans and in one episode for Matteo and two for the twins but we never really got to explore their relationship and the love triangle that we should have seen is this one because it was teased in season 1! We know the girls both love Matteo while he likes them equally and the moral of their story could have been that they both decide that family is more important than love and well Matteo just not being in love with any of them because they are his best friends.
And even without that storyline, they just deserved to appear more than the six annoying problematic childs the writers love to make talk like what is the point? Matteo's personnality that is quite antisocial and the sweet shyness of the twins could have been a good pause in a dense movie with lots of tensions. I wanted to see them, together or not but just to have them more because they were definitly the best humans of the group!
Julia deciding to be alone because she deserved better than two men fighting over her like she's a prize to be won
If we still got this love triangle, I just wished Julia acted like the strong girl she is by deciding she's not a prize and Romain and Arthur are absolutely forgetting she's got an opinion and is free to decide what she wants. The love triangle should have ended up with her dumping both of them!
Or Arthur realizing he's in love with Julia since she assumed her mistake in season 1 and not knowing what to do about it
Another problem of the love triangle is Arthur's perception. He just decides that he's in love with Julia but we don't know how and why. If we could just have a monolog of thoughts about how he realized he was admirative and attracted to her when she assumed her mistake in front of the class in the end of season 1, there would have been continuity. Plus the Arthur we left wasn't a couple breaker. We could have had the first half of the movie with him trying to know what to do about the situation and, maybe with Kabalé's intervention, to assume what he feels and be honest with Julia and Romain about what he feels for her.
Leading to eventually Romain realizing he can't be in a relationship with so many self-esteem issues.
Let's be honest, in any scenarios, Romain would have been jealous and possessive and if Arthur came out honestly without any attempt of seduction by strange plans, maybe Julia could have said to Romain that she doesn't get why he reacts like that because it's him that she loves but if he can't trust her, maybe they aren't made for each other. Thinking about it, he would realize how many self-esteem issues he has and decided that he needs to work on himself. maybe a scene where he says "I'm sorry but if you want, wait for me to be ready ", Julia being honest about the fact that she doesn't know how long she'll wait for him, him being at peace with that and Arthur just learning to know Julia by being a friend because she gave him a "STOP". It would have been so much better...
More of angels and demons interactions with their humans
Let's not start on the fact that we have ZERO interaction between Gas, Miki and Matteo but it's because Matteo has almost no interaction. They just are in the same place as the twins without talking to them, Raf and Sulfus talk with Romain a little bit but in the end, Kabalé is the one talking with humans the most and considering how much of the movie they spent in their human form it's a real problem we don't see them interacting with their humans. Dolce and her romantic side trying to understand Arthur's feeling, Miki and Gas trying to help Matteo creating his opera rock and the twins to create the costums, Cabria trying to push Julia to take advantage of the two boys in love with her while Urié tries to tell her to be honest... All of these small moments would have been so much better than Raf and Sulfus bickering around Romain who's so lost about it he just acts stupidly.
WE WERE ROBBED.

🤔 Have you had to rethink any aspect of it so far?
💡 What inspired you to want to write it?
for 2 and 4! and also.... maybe....perhapbs..... sad people wip?
Yessss!!!! thank u Bat :3c
Bleeding Over Eden:
⚠️ If you had to select five tags for it, right now, what would they be?
Ooooh yess!!! Hmm.... Everyone Needs A Hug, Hurt/Comfort, Character Study, Found Family, Angst With a Happy Ending
🤔 Have you had to rethink any aspect of it so far?
Oh yeah definitely!!!! Though it has stayed relatively close to its original concept, Arthur wasn't originally planned to come back. He was gonna stay dead and just be part of Ink's past. However, I realized how interesting it'd be to have him come back... Ink's past is quite literally haunting him!
💡 What inspired you to want to write it?
Oh so much- I think I've mentioned before that there are a few points of inspiration for Bleeding Over Eden, but I wanted to write something really exploring ideas of grief, identity, and trauma, focused on the idea of how the choices we make affect ourselves and those around us. And this is what came from that <3
In Seeking Paradise:
⚠️ If you had to select five tags for it, right now, what would they be?
Found Family, Vampires, Murder Mystery, Cults, Hurt/Comfort
🤔 Have you had to rethink any aspect of it so far?
Answered over here: [x]!
💡 What inspired you to want to write it?
Answered over here: [x]!
Sad People WIP (oh my god Sad People WIP,,,)
⚠️ If you had to select five tags for it, right now, what would they be?
Angst With a Happy Ending, Dark Humor, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Found Family
🤔 Have you had to rethink any aspect of it so far?
Honestly I'm rethinking a lot about it ASDFJK;L namely. I didn't really get that attached to the characters I listed and so none of them are developed, so I think I'm gonna revamp them from the ground up. Their base concepts will stay the same, but everything else is very likely to change. We'll see!
I'm also rethinking the setting, because while I want the relationships and mental health aspects to take center-stage, I also don't like writing pure contemporary fiction with no fantastical elements. I wanna go WILD and be SPICY. I had the thought earlier that it'd be wild if I set this in my post-apocalyptic fantasy world, but we'll see on that front.
💡 What inspired you to want to write it?
So for those who don't know Sad People WIP, that's a WIP idea I had recently ("recently" as in a few months ago) centering around a group of people who meet when they all happen to go to the same rooftop with the intent to kill themselves. None of them really feels comfortable doing so with other people there, though, so they all back out. And they end up talking and becoming friends, making a pact that they would each help each other find reasons to keep going.
I actually don't quite remember what initially inspired this, but I did find out that there is a movie out there with this concept already ASDFJK;L so that's something. However I love exploring trauma and mental health in my work in general, so this is kind of a natural extension of that. Just with a lot of dark gallows humor thrown in ASDFJKL;

I watched Aquaman (2018) two weeks ago and I am STILL thinking about how. *gestures as if to try and decide*... how inconsistent? it is. And I honestly don't know what to call it.
On the one hand, I do love that Arthur is reluctant and not interested in being king. He doesn't want power, hes got enough. Ultimately, he becomes king because he wants to save his world (in context its clear he means the Surface, human world) and sure ok if that means saving Atlantis, ok.
Problem is, beside the drama of "who deserves to be king"... is Orm even doing a bad job? Why does he NOW want to become king and Ocean Master? Atlantis wasn't any more on the verge of being discovered than when people first realized Arthur might be part Atlantean. Sure, someone has to be a villain, and being denied confirmation that he is the "true heir" because he didnt have uh Atlan's trident is a doozy but its been centuries since anyone has had it? So he was feeling threatened by... his older half-brother who.... *checks notes* didnt fucking want to be king.
Ok, so Orm was the villain because (for whatever reason) he Just Now Decided to culminate all his plans to force the title Ocean Master unto himself. As far as we know, (although movie 2 will hopefully touch on this) Orm had not been looking for the trident. If Arthur and Mera found it in like 2 days, how did Orm not find it in yanno at least two decades?
"Well," you say, "it was because Vulko and Mera didn't find the hologram recording thing until Just Now."
So why didn't they give it to Orm? Because he... "isn't the true heir"? Who is deciding that? If Orm doesn't even get to TRY to get the trident, because he doesnt know where it is, because he doesnt have the hologram message from Atlan... how could anyone possibly know Arthur is the "true" heir? He's 100% Atlantean, second son of the last (previous) queen of Atlantis. Sure, hes the second son, but hes the first 100% Atlantean son.
(I'm not gonna go into the absolute BULLSHIT that is Atlan's message... its so fucking stupid im so 😤 about it. Its stupid. Not to be on the side of cinemasins bc they're assholes but if they had a monolog about it and gave it more than 1 "sin" I say rightly so! If they didnt... not surprised bc that channel is lame and yet I still think of them. Sigh. I digress.)
So then we look at Vulko and Mera. What would they know about Arthur that he (or anyone else) doesn't know? Maybe that he... saved the world with the Justice League? That he can speak to aquatic animals unlike any other Atlantean (was Atlan able to? Methinks he was, so was he half-human, half-Atlantean, too? More on that... another time) can? That Vulko made a promise to Atlanna that he would protect Arthur? And Mera had NO reason to go with Arthur, no reason to betray her nation and family, no reason to forsake her betrothal beside the fact that... uh. *checks notes again* Arthur is... hot, and that we have to have a romantic coupling by the end of this movie.
And I dont know if its Amber Heard or the writing, but I have written better romances at the age of thirteen than the writers did for this movie. They brush hands once, he catches her when she stumbles from the statue thing (I think??), I guess we can count her betraying her home just for a hot dude (can't relate) as a romantic gesture... but he doesn't do anything for her.
Which is funny. Especially when you look at the times she kisses him, she initiates both times. Or maybe just the one time? I remember two, but one is dramatic (cinematic, even?) underwater and another is shorter and above water, and he seems surprised by both. Which makes me uncomfortable, especially his surprise. We obviously don't have a lot to go on to see how he acts around women, beside Wonder Woman, and I can't remember what he says to her in Justice League (beside some probably bad jokes and stuff bc its ... well. Anyway.) so like for all we know hes suave and charming etc or a complete dummy and Just Gets Lucky.
But like. The romance doesn't make any sense. Shes interested in him, hes fine (?) with it, but is that enough to betray your world's previous tranquility? We don't really get to see what Orm got up to, so we don't know what kind of king he is.
(Sidenote: its interesting to see what they considered pros and cons for Orm and Arthur, and how they didn't know Arthur helped stop uh. Whats-his-face from destroying the planet. BUT who controls the pros/cons list and maybe they didn't want anyone in the audience to know he was a world-saving ☆hero☆.)
So Vulko. The one who knew both Arthur and Orm, made a promise to Atlanna about Arthur but potentially not about Orm. Not to look at Wilem Defoe and say "man only plays betrayers and villains, I dont trust him" only to be surprised that Vulko did in fact stay true to the protagonist of the story. Vulko effectively chose who the "true" heir was out of Atlanna's sons.
Why?
No idea. Beside Arthur being the first-born.
So they should have made Arthur the second-born son. Not only would his half status be more of a "disadvantage", but it would make Arthur's reluctance more sensible and Orm's confidence more concrete, more clearly defining why they were doing what they were doing. Orm defending his birthright as first-born would have been more interesting than second-born grasping for it, where Arthur being second-born but reluctantly being pushed to claim the older brother's right as his own more controversial and dangerous. ALSO it would have made more sense for Atlanna to be condemned to the Trench because she first of all was wounded (?) on the shore near Tom's lighthouse and so I dont think she meant to be there, but is she really to be punished by falling in love with someone who rescued her and helped her heal? Is it really her fault to have a child with the person who evidently helped her learn about humanity as something not inferior but equal in a different way than expected (a potential reach but let me live). Is it so bad that she had her firstborn as a half human?
But I guess there is the crux of the problem, which ultimately is on patriarchal bullshit than on her "fault". She did choose that her first child was half-human. And why didn't she just return to Atlantis after being healed/nursed back to health? Why did she stay? Was there something that made her reluctant? Who did the condemning? Also, who the fuck is Orm's father? Where was he in the story?
Atlanna wasn't interested in returning to Atlantis, at least not until Arthur was older so that he could learn to be the prince and heir of the nation. I think she did mean to return when he was older. She called him a king of his people, agreed to name him after a strong and good (according to legend) king. (Arthur was also the name of a storm which hello hello so sexy I wanna write another paragraph on that but not Right Now.) She planned to bring Arthur to Atlantis to unite the Surface and Ocean nations. Was that so much a crime to cast her into the Trench, after, of course, bearing another son to take the throne?
Why was Arthur the true heir, according to the movie? The story's universe? Who decided this, or what? Why? Why not Orm? Because Arthur had a hero's reluctance, which is often apparently a good thing, (it is, it so fucking is, to see a hero reluctant to be a victor because of the necessary sacrifices. A selfish hero who wins is better than an arrogant hero who wins for self-gain and power.) over his brother's expectations of being king because he's 100% Atlantean?
I dont get it. Leaves me with suspicions and doubts and questions.
I dont trust Vulko or Mera. The Mera and Arthur romance is suspicious and I dont trust it, either.
Im excited for the second movie to see if any of this is clarified, or if its just going to be moved past and I'm gonna be floundering asking "hey what the fuck" as I get more information but No Answers.

Moon Knight System Relationship Analysis + Other Notes (Episode 2)
Marc and Steven are here! Jake is missing! Marvel BANNED!
Disclaimer: I do not have DID and to my knowledge have never met a system. I will fix any mistakes that people point out.
TW: A bit of Swearing.
<_>
 Straight into my heart.
That’s where they go.
I know this is how hyperfixations work but I am so baffled by how HARD these guys have clawed into my heart. I’ve rewatched the entire show beginning to end with full interest, not even wanting it as background noise for scrolling on my phone (even though I was scrolling through the Moon Knight tag) it was just that compelling – Marc, Steven, Layla, Jake, Khonshu, Arthur, just fricking everything like what the fish.
Yeah I’ll get bored of this eventually. This clinical analysis of each moment is killing the interest, so soon this is just gonna become another Marvel show that I remember being obsessed with but forget most important stuff about in like two weeks.
Until that happens, I wanna leave notes for myself when I come back to this season in the future. (istg if they don’t give a season 2 before they have Moon Knight appear in a major movie I’m gonna become a Jake Lockley stan out of pure spite.)
Let’s go!
Starting off the same way that the Alps dream ended – Marc's best attempt to make it seem like a nightmare to Steven. And honestly at any other point it probably would have worked again. Steven’s core emotion is denial, refusing to acknowledge that he may need help, refusing to talk to even his mother about his issues – Marc has probably been making Steven believe that he has the most vivid and wild nightmares in the world for a while.
But this time doesn’t work. Too much has come together, and as I said before, Steven’s “I’m gonna die” was him finally refusing denial and accepting that this is reality. So he wakes up running, with a tired sigh, broken from his own denial illusions, and the first thing he does – getting in front of a mirror and taunting Marc – was where Steven’s transformation from meek, shy nerd to someone who can actually hold his own begins. With sarcasm and frustration and anger, Steven without the lies he tells himself - “You there? Hmm? No?... Yeah [bitch], didn’t think so.”
And I think at this point when he sees Marc fronting at the museum, Steven has only an inkling about their DID. The way he called Marc not real - that was Steven calling himself insane, that he has voices in his head, you know. And while the jackal may have been invisible, Marc appearing on the cameras, very clearly a different demeanor and posture than Steven - “That’s not me” - it’s confirmation that he isn’t insane, that at least Marc is real.
But the frustration doesn’t end – the security camera footage was contradictory, jackal being “not real”, Marc “real”, and Steven, who has lived in denial for so long, can’t make his mind up fully that he isn’t crazy. So he seeks more proof – the storage locker.
Broken out of denial, Steven has no nice emotions to display. He’s frustrated, he’s lost, he’s angry, he is still very confused about what Marc actually is and how he’s affected his life. Added to his very real and reasonable anger is all the illegal stuff Marc has hidden away – all Steven sees are the worst parts of Marc, his country-hopping mercenary work that made him an international fugitive. From this point on, Steven is fully antagonistic towards a very real criminal that should be behind bars (in his opinion, at least), and the guy “that’s behind all of the bad things that have happened in his life” (in his opinion, obviously).
That’s why Steven is at Marc’s throat. And Marc reacts reasonably – how would you treat a person that obviously hates you? Be snarky and annoyed and sarcastic right back to them.
It’s miscommunication, it’s Marc’s main issue – he wants to protect Steven from this life until the very bitter end, when he has no other choice. Steven isn’t an equal partner to him like Layla is. Steven is... Well, we figure out what Steven is to Marc in Episode 5. Until then, the comparison of Marc as oldest brother, Jake the middle brother and Steven the youngest is quite accurate.
And this episode is where the main cast figures out that Steven and Marc are a system, separate alters. The one who figured it out first was Harrow – off-screen, mostly. In episode one, he calls Steven by Marc’s moniker – mercenary, someone that’s gotten in his way. But then in the Alps he meets Steven, a complete opposite of the mercenary – easy to assume that was a temporary act to get him out of a tough spot, especially the “Here you can have it! Oh no my hand has clasped around it!” (Classic taunt)
But finding Steven Grant in the museum he said he worked at changed things. From how Harrow talks to him, we can assume that while Harrow knows of the mercenary, it was probably only his second time actually meeting him – Harrow is trying to reason with a hired gun, trying to appeal to his morality, recruit him to his cult. Perhaps an inkling that Steven Grant and Marc Mercenary Spector aren’t exactly the same, but then he sees the calling card of Khonshu – flickering lights, mysterious wind, and he tries his scales maybe to kill him, maybe to prove a point against Khonshu. But it’s not what he expected - “There’s chaos in you”, scales in perpetual motion. (Which if we really think about it should be everyone’s - how can you know for sure that everything will occur in just the right way to make a person do the evil/good thing that the scales see? The whole concept of Ammit is apparently she knows you so well she can predict your actions in the future – taking in every factor around you, taking in every possibility, everything that can happen to you, heck, she can apparently see how other people around you will affect you, and she can see all of those peoples’ scales and somehow nothing contradicts itself and the future is just that predetermined that she can accurately say that this and this will happen – it’s just the same issue with time travel that MCU avoided with that “Your present is now your past” shtick. How omniscient is she, how far into the future can she see, could she have seen the world-ending events that shaped the Avengers – it would be worth freeing her for that, preparation for destruction- BUT THEN THE PARADOX OF TIME TRAVEL IF YOU KNOW THAT SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN AND THAT KNOWLEDGE IS WHAT PREVENTS IT HOW THE HELL WOULD YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THE EVENT IF YOU KNOWING ABOUT THE EVENT PREVENTS IT FROM HAPPENING AAAAAAAAAAA-)
Ammit is confusing. Harrow doesn’t seem to realize that. But he does realize that Steven Grant is not the Marc Mercenary Spector he is looking for. Few people could come to the conclusion of DID that easily, it’s not a common thing that pops into one’s head, but Harrow has some experience in that aspect. He was Khonshu’s Avatar – in a way, he had a Khonshu alter. Maybe the thought doesn’t fully form after he weighs Steven’s scales, but from how later on the “detectives” talk to Steven, it’s reasonable to assume the three of them came to the conclusion that they “should make sure”, hence the dance to bring Steven to Harrow’s community, where Harrow is then 100% sure.
Layla’s first thought seems to be “amnesia”. “You really don’t remember why we’ve been looking for this”, “I know you have the suit, you bring it out”. But then Steven dons the suit, and, subsequently, Marc. The difference between the two of them, how they’ve acted, how they look wearing the same armor – it clicks at that moment. There was her Marc – in his “best feature”. And from then on they’re separate.
So how does Steven come to terms with it? Well pretty much the whole episode people are mistaking Marc for him, and he has to keep saying (and reassuring himself) that it’s not him. The only person that seems to actually believe his dilemma – that he and Marc are not the same – is Harrow. Would be comforting, if it weren’t for the fact he wants to kill millions of people based on poor beliefs in an all-mighty omniscient being that has to transcend every time travel paradox ever created to be a good... god? Judge? Purger of the world? Thanos 2.0? Take out the mass murder and questionable moral standing and... yeah, Harrow’s comfort is comforting.
So does Steven believe he’s not insane? Maybe. Even in episode 4 he is adamant about Marc “disappearing” once he’s done with Khonshu, although that can be taken as just him biting back at Marc. If I had to pick a moment where Steven stopped treating Marc as an insanity-provoked hallucination, it would be post storage locker. At that point, he knew Marc wasn’t just a voice, he could be in control of the body the same way Steven is. And the money, the passport, it spoke to a history that this “voice” could have very realistically had, considering Steven’s frequent blackouts. He asks what Marc is, and even though his words sound ridiculous, there’s been a fair share of crazy these past few days. “That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard” - has a panic attack because the stupidest thing he’s ever heard is real.
DID is never used as a term in the show, it can be explained as both the showrunners/writers chickening out of an actual conversation about it, and it can be the fact that the system itself doesn’t know the term, nor do most, possibly all of the characters. But Steven listening to Marc in the conversation with Layla, seeming to understand that the two of them are separately in control of the body, is a confirmation for us that Steven is aware of what is happening to him, even if he doesn’t give it a name.
So by the time Harrow acquires the scarab and episode 2 ends, everyone important is aware that Steven Grant and Marc Spector are separate.
A bit of a tangent, Harrow is quite a complicated character. In the most metaphorical way possible, him and the Moon Knight system are the same. Both were abused by a figure of authority (Marc’s mom, Khonshu), both were shaped by that abuse (in different ways), and now are just trying to do what they believe in, seeking penance for what they feel was their fault (Marc remembers every person he killed in Khonshu’s name, even the cities he was in – he's a mercenary, it’s “what he’s good at”. Harrow enjoyed the killing, but was somehow brought out of that high and realized Khonshu enabled his most sinful desire. Marc wants to avoid killing, and is trying to be a hero by stopping a mass-murderer in the making as the only service he can offer, while Harrow wants to destroy all evil from the roots. Marc internalizes his abuse and punishes himself; Harrow wants to punish the world.). It’s tough to say if the only difference between them is the age they were subjected to their abuse, but while they are similar in many regards, they are fundamentally different.
Which is why Harrow thinks he can get Steven Grant on his side (or at least “reason” with him for the scarab) and why he is so wrong. Later on the system sees Harrow as their psychiatrist – he's more knowledgeable in this, he acts as comforting voice, but all while misunderstanding the differences between them so so horribly. Because Harrow doesn’t understand that he and the system actually want really different things, Steven is able to challenge his thinking of Ammit’s untouchability – sure, Harrow seems to understand his struggle and seems to understand the difficulty of having Khonshu as a voice in one’s head, but he may be what the system isn’t - a bit broken, almost crazy to blindly believe the purity that an extreme measure of judgement without trial is promising.
So the scene plays out as it does. And we get to enjoy every second of it.
(Tiny tiny side note – did anyone think that Steven was actually going to say Layla’s name when asked about the scarab? I know Marc is paranoid and underestimates Steven at this point, but… the boy is absolutely enamored with Layla and stopped in his tracks when Marc said “You’re gonna get her killed”, there is no way he says her name, even if he did put some trust in Harrow (which obviously no sane person would, he literally opened with “We want to kill millions of people :D”)
I guess Marc being this jumpy around Steven makes their relationship by the end all the more satisfying. This is where they started – and by god how far they’ve come.
(But Marc pls did you not SEE how Steven LOOKED AT HER he would rather get stabbed than let any harm come to her he is SIMPING.))
ADDED NOTE
Someone pointed out how Steven reacts after Harrow tries talking directly to Marc, trying to discredit Khonshu and turn the entire system over to his cult. Again, obvious failure, but at this point in the show Steven only knows Marc Mercenary Spector, he thinks the absolute worst of him. And the only explanation Marc offered for his existence was “I’m an Avatar of Khonshu, I serve him”. Steven was already doubting Ammit, calling her a weird crocodile lady – he wasn’t believing a word Harrow was telling him. When Harrow was talking to Marc about how awful Khonshu is Steven was listening and seeing Khonshu through the eyes of those that served him – and it just so happens that those are the people that hate him the most. Steven was looking at Harrow - “Trust me when I tell you, Khonshu, is a liar” - and then after “There’s always one last thing”, he looks to Marc, almost asking for an explanation, and Marc doesn’t say anything in response, just shies away from the reflection, like he’d taken a punch to the gut. He doesn’t deny what Harrow implied – that serving Khonshu diligently is just a way to speed up the process of getting rid of him. And in that moment Steven’s perception of Marc changes – and maybe, just maybe, he starts to feel a little pity for him.
Which would endear him to Marc more.
So Steven takes his stance.
Screw Ammit.
(A bit about the time travel paradoxes Amitt transcends – the more I watch this scene the more that “might do evil in the future thing” not being disproven sticks. Harrow is just utterly convinced Ammit is correct and when he questioned her in the past (that strangely quick response to child murder), he found an answer to continue his loyalty. Steven’s first thought is “trusting the judgement of a weird crocodile lady is a bit dodgy” and that stays the general idea about Ammit within the system. So on one side you have a zealot with unshakeable beliefs and on the other you have a little confused but well-spirited guy just trying to do his best. The time travel paradoxes aren’t even considered because I guess no one’s interested in the inner workings of Ammit enough to go past “oh she wants to kill children” and question how and why it isn’t unreasonable to some people?
I get the conflict, I get why Steven is as fired up about stopping Ammit as Marc is who is just there as a servant of Khonshu, but GODDAMIT CAN YOU AT LEAST THINK ABOUT MORE REASONS WHY AMMIT IS JUST THE WORST-CASE SCENARIO FOR A DREAM-LIKE ACHIEVEMENT?!)
Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee! My name is Steven with a V!
He is precious. And he’s gaining a bit of confidence (even if it is misplaced). And Marc agrees – “That was a hell of a punch back there” - while also being realistic – “Someone’s gonna get hurt if you don’t let me help” - good big bro, letting Steven test out his limits and realize on his own that he’s not quite there yet, which lets Marc use minimal convincing for Steven to give up the front.
(If I had a nickel for every time Marc looked to someone to tell him what to do in a situation I think he had well under control, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s strange that this first time he’s looking to Layla specifically to reassure/convince her this is him/try to apologize/something along the lines of remembering their bond and the second time he listened to Khonshu telling him to threaten a child with death after two failed attempts at getting crucial dig site information (it’s funny, Harrow misjudged the system’s motivations and now Marc misjudges Ammit’s followers’ loyalty. It’s almost poetic. If it wasn’t for the birb. “I thought he’d talk” - motherfucker your only understanding of humans and their inner workings is 1. A guy you manipulated so hard he literally didn’t see any chance of redemption for himself other than purging the entire world of evil, including himself, and 2. A fledgling system where each of the alters were living in constant denial over each other’s existence, wtf do you, a stupid flightless fucking pidgeon, know about people?
Whatever Marc thought to threaten the kid with was 10,000 times better than HOLDING HIM BY HIS SCARF OVER A FRICKING CLIFF.)
Oh right the relevance with Marc looking/listening to other people in certain situations – specifically, the ones described above. I don’t think it’s that Marc doesn’t trust his own judgement? It would be thematically relevant, with him hating his mercenary work, but then he would ask for advice way more often than he actually does.
I think it speaks to a different part of Marc’s character. And also the situations only have the similarity of Marc thinking he let the person he’s asking for advice from down.
With Layla it’s obvious – that was the first time she’s seen him in months, after he ghosted her. The way he looked at her, the stare they shared – it held a thousand words.
With Khonshu, he failed the mission twice and now for the third time, he actually listens to what he first considers to be bad advice. “He’s just a kid”, “He’ll talk”.
The part with Khonshu can be traced back to his abusive mother – you rarely don’t listen to what that kind of authority figure tells you to do.
But with Layla it may be a type of trust. Like how for someone he cares about he’s willing to put his life in their hands. He knew he needed to get the jackal away from the people, but he still looked to Layla to tell him that. It may just be their dynamic – when the deal at Mogart’s goes wrong, he shields Layla and immediately agrees with her plan. But while he seems reluctant, he does the same with Steven. He trusts his knowledge of ancient Egypt enough to let him front when absolutely necessary, and during that chase at the beginning of episode 3, why do you think Jake was switching in when Marc had the situations under control? Could it be because Marc would’ve actually listened to Steven telling him to stop?
It’s a stretch, I know. But I like to think that Marc chooses to relinquish control to very specific people, as a way of showing them how much he trusts and loves them, when he can’t quite put it into words.)
Anyway, Marc kills the Jackal.
And Steven is claustrophobic.
I mean it’s not said, not even particularly heavily implied, but do you hear his voice in this scene?
“So this is what it’s like?
Being on the inside?”
And how gentle Marc’s voice is?
“...yeah.”
“It’s horrible.”
“It’s alright, you’re alright.”
“...I feel like I can scarcely move.”
“It’s alright just breathe through it. It gets easier.”
“How long have you been doing this?”
“...
I don’t know, it’s... a long time.”
“I don’t like it.”
“Long time...”
“I don’t want it. Can I have my body back?”
“I can’t do that right now-”
“Please.”
“-Steven.”
First of all it breaks my heart, second of all this is one of the most compelling scenes in the show (If we don’t count episode five where literally every scene was perfect), this is the first time they both actually talk without the frustration and confusion that this sudden realization of their system existing was. Steven is quiet, nearly on the verge of tears, his hands are almost clasped together as if even in the reflection just a flinch is bringing him pain, and Marc is recalling the moment(s) he felt the same way and his voice is just so soft as he reassures Steven, like he’s giving him a calming hug with just his words.
Maybe he knows that Steven is claustrophobic, maybe it actually is a very difficult thing to change the perception of an eye so much that the reflection is not what it expects it to be. Either way, one of my favorite scenes in the show.
And once Steven accustoms to the feeling of being just a reflection, his usual frustration with Marc comes right back. “You can’t keep me trapped in here” - like you kept Marc trapped?
It’s an endless back and forth the whole series because, again, miscommunication, and because they don’t understand each other. Marc just wants Steven to be his “stress ball”, not involved in any of his mercenary work that he deems “shameful”, and Steven only sees the criminal in Marc, not any of the history or choices that led him there. And they don’t try to talk – I guess in a way they both think the other is ruining their lives at the moment and they just want the other gone. Put up the wall again, stop their lives bleeding into each other, go back into what life was like before – amnesia, sleepwalking, tiredness, denial.
But Steven is never going back into denial. And Marc can’t force him – eventually, he realizes he needs Steven.
But that’s later :)
Until then, Steven will shout the angriest words that, unknowingly to him, cause Marc the most pain, and he, in return, will be the most patient and self-deprecating and self-sacrificial he’s ever been just to try and reassure Steven and ease his anger.
And Marc tries to separate him and Steven, saying that his servitude is the price he pays, in the same sentence he says that they wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for Khonshu.
In an ironic twist of events, Marc, the alter aware of the system, is the one trying to claim individuality, while Steven, the one still quite unaware, is the one saying that one alter’s body count is all of theirs’ body count, refusing individuality and separate weights on their shoulders.
And notice how Marc’s tone changes when the conversation turns to Layla. The person he loves, the person he sacrificed his own happiness for, well, one of the people he’s done that for. However patient he is trying to be with Steven, he won’t let him say that he is being cruel to Layla, that he doesn’t care about her, that he’s a shitty human being for leaving her. It hurts Marc, to hear those words from Steven, who he also sacrificed time for just to convince him he had a normal life, that his fish didn’t die every time Marc had to go on a longer mission, that the accidental wakings during those missions were just bad dreams.
It hurts Marc. And it’s not the first time he lashes out in violence. He is trying his best, as a person who thinks he is undeserving of anything good in life, he is trying his best.
And he doesn’t get appreciation. Not yet.
Not to mention that Khonshu talks to him exactly how a manipulative, abusive parent would. Demeaning him, making Marc apologize, then suddenly acting nice to remind him why he stays in the first place. Pidgeon deserves to be bound to stone for eternity.
And episode 2 ends with a cool Cairo reveal!
The soundtrack slaps. It’s a fact.
Before this I haven’t really sat down to analyze the show, this was a really spontaneous thing. It’s surprising how much is in episode 2- well, after knowing the rest of the show. It’s only 6 episodes and not a frame is wasted!
It’s beautiful.
I love this show.
