Fucked up thought as I do material spec: transmasc Eddie Munson who gets bullied and called a guy because of how he dresses and acts (transphobic so bad they looped back to what Eddie wants on accident) dating Steve post S2, who knows and supports him, but still has to misgender his bf in public until they can get out of Hawkins. Eddie fails again, they get in a fight about whether they should leave, and aren’t broken up, but aren’t really together as S3 starts. So when Eddie visits Scoops, Steve is so happy to see him that he calls him Eddie and he/him in public, just like the bullies, and can’t explain to Robin, who is absolutely pissed that Steve is treating her Eddie like that.

It's warming up so let me give y'all your yearly summer reminder: if you see a "ladies get in free or reduced drink prices" at bars this is not a rare form of "female privilege" it is because you are the product that is on sale.
The bars are advertising to men that there will be a lot of women there who will be drunk. No (osa) man wants to go to a bar that's a sausage fest, so bars know that letting y'all get intoxicated for free (making you vulnerable and providing incentive for you to come) makes male paying customers come in. [This is also why they are allowing teenagers in with shitty fake IDs. They know you are underage girls, they just don't care about your safety. If they could advertise they have underage drunk girls there, they would. Stay Home.]
These spaces typically have an air of male entitlement that's stronger than other bars because they feel like they are already paying for your time and that you owe them for getting the free drinks. That your sexual availability to them is "part of the deal" for them having to pay to get in or to drink and you not having to. All the men are already walking around with the "I bought you would drink so you owe me" mentality in bars like this. So, while we get into the fun seasons of the year, remember to avoid places that purposely set themselves up as a lion's den. If they are advertising that a lot of women will be there, they are not doing it for women. They are doing it to use you as bait to catch more paying customers who will feel sexually entitled to you.
Be selective where you show up and allow yourself to be vulnerable. Have fun, but mitigate some of the risks you're going to be exposed to if you can.

Another day of being called a male pervert who likes to dress like women.
Why do transphobes assume I'm a trans woman?
I'm nonbinary. I'm AFAB.
You should be using the opposite insult for me.
You should be calling me a woman pervert who wears pants.
Like the degenerate I am.

i fucking hate transphobes because they love to make up “actual reasons” trans people are trans like “they have a fetish for being (x) gender” or “they want to prey on kids” and it allows them to completely dodge actually interacting with arguments for the existence of gender and the non-existence of gender or sex binaries. It sets the discussion MILES upon MILES back because it’s not even a discussion of whether trans people are real, it’s a discussion of whether we’re xyz stereotype.
and that’s the express purpose! It’s the oldest trick in the book; if they make a strawman to argue with, they dont have to put in the effort to argue with you at all! Conservatives have done this for hundreds of years.
misogynists stereotyped women as emotional to have an excuse for not confronting whether women are inherently less capable or smart than men Racists stereotyped black men as predators to have an excuse for not confronting whether your skin tone was a valid reason to dehumanize and hate someone
homophobes stereotyped gay people as predators(rings a bell) to have an excuse for not confronting whether being gay is natural or not immoral.
Just as they stereotype trans people now as predatory(rings a bell) “autogynephiles” or as “TRAs indoctrinating kids.”

Sometimes I think how often I see a terf go into my selfie tag (thanks, tracker app thing!) and then receive anon hate from terves telling me how "obviously a man" and I'll "never be a woman" and how I "even talk like a moid." (Moid is, as mentioned in another post, an extremely racist term altered and coopted by terfs, sooo.) Frequently they also list all my physical attributes that "give me away."
When this happens, I like to try and see it from their perspectives. Despite their anonymous missives, by terf standards, I am, and always will be, a woman. This is because I was born with a vagina and grew boobs during my naturally occurring puberty. They do not care about a) my intersex condition, or b) my people's own gender traditions stretching back pre-contact.
BUT- terfs have not and will not ever see my vagina. No one ever will, if I get any say in it. Even if they could, I got a big bush and a big clit and it's hard to tell what's goin on exactly. My vagina is irrelevant, socially. So with my vagina out of the picture, what's left? My selfie tag, and how people perceive me with my clothes on.
I am tall. My shoulders are the broadest part of me, I've been told they're linebacker shoulders. My hands are huge and broad, I've been told I have 'man hands.' My neck is thick. I have a chin beard and sideburns and thick eyebrows and a heavy brow. I wear US men's size 12 shoes. I've never been on testosterone therapy. When I shaved my head, I got questioned, aggressively, about whether I "belonged" in the women's restroom. She didn't see my vagina because, as I said, my vagina is completely socially irrelevant.
One more step. All of these traits I share with the women in my family. We are indigenous women of color, with traditional third gender systems. If I was thinner, like my mom, you'd see the adams apple I inherited from her.
So, a terf, someone who is allegedly a radical progressive feminist, is looking at the way I look and the way I talk and deciding that I don't have a vagina. Let me reiterate: we are dealing with a schrodinger's vagina here. I have one I was born with, but terfs don't know that. There is no vagina in play. They look at me, either in real life or my selfies and decide that I am not a woman because of a) my racial traits, b) my, what terfs believe to be, medical condition, or c) how I behave. Revoking my womanhood on basis that have NOTHING to do with my vagina, which may or may not exist. Revoking my womanhood based instead on racism, medical discrimination/ableism, or misogynistic ideas of how someone with a vagina should act. Ya know. None of those seem super progressive or radical to me.
You can whine and scream all you want about "biological reality", but at the end of the day no one's talking to vaginas or cocks, we're talking to each other. Acknowledge the nuance of social reality or shut the fuck up. Also, terf ideology is inherently racist.

It really bothers me that people won't even fact check when told that someone is a terf or something. The fact that people will blindly follow. Sure it's not that much of a problem when you just block them. It's not like that's hurting anyone. But what really bothers me is the blind trust. "Go block OP because they are a terf and proshipper" and people just do, without even trying to find evidence that the OP really is.

i don't want to put my uninformed foot in my mouth or get involved with the Discourse but i've been seeing the two extremes of reactions to the korean low birth rates issue (on tumblr and twitter both) and i'm just kind of like. look. i feel like "low birth rates (in many countries but especially japan and korea as part of this conversation) are more broadly the result of capitalism/a culture of overwhelming overwork that makes social relationships and having families incredibly inaccessible to young people" and "low birth rates are very much a part of the current conversation about misogyny and social expectations for women in korea especially in the context of reproduction as 'unpaid labor' for women" are statements that can both be true
#laughs awkwardly#gender#especially considering the ways patriarchal expectations and capitalism very much intersect in terms of quality of life for women#ex. women being expected to have kids / raise kids / do all the housework and cooking in a relationship#while ALSO existing in a society where women (even married women) have to work demanding jobs to deal with the high cost of living#AND women are systemically discriminated against in terms of pay / job availability / work environment and harassment#all of these things add up. these conversations are not opposing points of view. you know?#and also like. not super comfortable with how TERFs are discussed in terms of non-white cultures#TERFism / radfems as a MOVEMENT (and a cult) is very much rooted in white supremacy / ideals of womanhood#again. multiple things can be true at the same time. yes i do see (from my perspective involved in taiwanese social media)#some east asian feminists engage in transphobia in ways that approach radfem rhetoric ('women are victims of men' 'men are predators'#type generalized sentiments which you can imagine gains a lot of traction among women traumatized by patriarchy)#but movement-wise i don't think it's fair (or just in good faith) to generalize radical feminists from non-white countries#to straight up TERFs. which again. rooted in white supremacy. keep feeling like i have to remind people it doesn't make sense#for asians to be white supremacists and that not all oppression on earth stems directly from white people. you weirdos#'what are you talking about' in east asia the type of feminist statements called 'radical' are stuff like.#women shouldn't have to wear make up every time they go outside. women shouldn't be expected to do all housework.#should men pay for women on dates. debates that i think in the states we kind of take for granted as stuff settled years ago#even if some feminists might be transphobic it's not necessarily Transphobia As Core Tenets Of The Movement. does anyone get the difference#basically what i'm saying is. wow these tags got long. maybe let's not apply uniform standards of 'correct language and values'#to non-white people and attack them when as all movements they are fluid and influenced by the people living in it#TERF-style transphobia is not the predestined course for them. maybe it's more productive to have open discussions about transphobia#to work towards inclusivity and solidarity in these movements than to prescribe White Internet Morality to them#and declare that they're evil when they are still very much having conversations that need to be had. thanks i think that's all#essentially. i find that 'how dare a non-american movement not have morally pristine vocabulary priorities and membership#as determined by white leftists' to be in itself kinda a racist attitude

"but men can just pretend and sneak into our spaces"
sorry, which men ? the men that won't be seen eating a salad in public because its too 'feminine' for them ? the men whose sexism is trumped only by their homophobia bc they associate feminity with queerness ? the men who won't even take a finger let alone the strap ? who would bully one of their bros into wearing a dress for losing a bet, as they think those pictures are humiliating enough to use as blackmail ? THOSE men ? fools. buffoons.

@tattered-cynic is a moid orbiter who thinks that he gets to be an authority on what we speak about in radfem spaces, who gets to speak, and who needs to be questioned. He is also acting very suspiciously about a little girl leaving our space and insists he calls her a woman as "a sign of respect". I'm sure I'm not the only radfem who can see the issue with that. Like thats a version of 'you're so mature for your age'. It's gross.
Anyways, I wasn't going to make this post but he's acting hella weird so I figured it couldn't hurt. I'm not saying he's doing anything wrong (that I can prove) but do we really need 30-year-old males in our spaces in the first place? I honestly don't think we do, gyns.
Also, @tattered-cynic:

People will be like no im not lesbophobic i just automatically categorize all lesbians as violent evil predatory misandrists and will frame everything they say as violent and hateful without actually learning if its accurate first. I also assume anyone that uses or includes lesbian-specific terms in their identity irl or online is evil. Why would that be problematic in any way
Terfs rot in hell btw
