i could give a plethora of reason on why vegas dying in the finale doesn’t sit right with me, but i’ll just say this, he’s been abused and used as a mere tool by his father his entire life, has never known happiness/warmth or anything good and the minute he sees some light and finds someone who chooses him despite seeing him at his worst he dies? fucked up and senseless.

Why does everyone always recommend Twist and Shout for destiel? Like what happened in fandom at that time to make it so popular that it's now a staple? I haven't read it. I refuse. I know there is major character death and people complain it is OOC so I'm just wondering why do people love it so much? I have read so many long fics written by immensely talented writers in this fandom that end hopefully and tackle difficult subject matter while maintaining character voices that it seems a shame that T&S is always recommended

So, I also haven’t read it - I don’t do MCD, no matter how highly recommended a fic comes. However, here’s what I’d say in answer to this question.

Twist and Shout came out, it was during a period when the fandom was huge, and exploding. Season 8 was something of a Destiel renaissance (it’s when I started shipping it, for example) and it’s not a coincidence that a lot of the best known fic came out in 2012 and 2013 (for reference, T&S started posting on October 15th, 2012, according to AO3). I wasn’t active on AO3 Destiel fandom at that time (I started reading fic on FF.net in early 2013) nor was I active on Tumblr or in fandom circles where shipping was a big Thing, so I don’t know what the general fandom reaction to it was at the time, but presumably it met with a fair degree of popularity. People liked it. People recced it. I have no idea if it had the MCD tag at that time, but presumably it did. People read it knowing that. And presumably, some people didn’t like it, and some people didn’t rec it, but like any other fic it went through a process of developing popularity.

Why did it get to be first?

In my honest opinion?

Utterly random chance. If you look at ANY developing fandom, some of the trends are in fact totally random, at least to begin with. Once the avalanche starts, though, it’s self-perpetuating.

Think about it. You’re in a brand new fandom. You don’t know anyone. You haven’t read anything. You’re desperate to read something. What do you do? You go to AO3, find the ship you want to read, and you sort by most hits, or most kudos, or most comments, and decide - I’m gonna start by reading these. You see the first fic...okay, MCD, a little off putting...but it’s got SO MANY HITS and SO MANY KUDOS...just take the chance!

So, you (my hypothetical fan) read this fic. One of two things happen - you either love it or you hate it. If you hate it, you may not even finish it, but regardless, you’ve added to the stats - your views count, and maybe you liked the early chapters and kudosed, or maybe you remember everything you’ve heard about authors liking comments on early chapters of fully posted works, and you commented. So those stats have gone up, even if someone HATED it. And on the second, you love it - and you come out gushing! You kudos! If you’re super enthusiastic maybe you log out and give it a second guest kudos! And, as you start getting into the fandom and meeting people, you want to spread this love - you tell your friends - hey, I just read this great fic, and yeah, it’s MCD, but just give it a chance!

And so it begins again - if you tell four people, and they read it, and two hate it, and two love it, and those two tell four people, and two hate it, and two love it, and it just cascades.

Why is Twist and Shout the most popular fic in this fandom? Because Twist and Shout is the most popular fic in this fandom. Yes, it’s a tautology, but it’s entirely self-perpetuating. People read it because it’s listed first. People read it because they like it, and re-read it and re-read, and re-read it, to get that high. People hate read it. People read it just to find out what the big deal is. In a fandom with coming up on 100,000 posted stories, Twist and Shout has almost twice as many kudos as the fic in second (by the, in my personal opinion, far more deserving Annie D, though it’s also not their best work in my opinion, and the reasons it’s up there are likely the same), and almost four times as many hits. By any measure on AO3 surveys, it’s number one when people sort, and lots of people will read it simply out of curiosity.

That kind of popularity is self-perpetuating. And of course lots of people love T&S - it has 1.2 million hits, and almost 35000 kudos. Even if we go extremely conservative and say, 35,000 people have read T&S, that’s simply a shit ton of people, and if even only 10% loved it, that’d still be 3500 people gushing about that single fic. I’ve been writing for 5 years and I don’t have a single fic with even 3500 kudos, and I’m considered a relatively successful writer in this huge fandom.

But here’s, to me, the most important thing - I truly believe any fic can be a Twist and Shout. It’s a confluence of events that makes a fic such a juggernaut, and the vast majority are simply luck. Random drift means one fic is gonna end up on the top of the heap - and once a fic is there, reading tendencies, confirmation bias, and exposure guarantee it’ll STAY on the top of the heap.

I started the Destiel Favs Survey because I felt that the “top 20″ fics by hits in the Destiel fandom didn’t reflect the fics people actually like. I got curious, so I made a list.

In February 21st, 2017, the top 20 fics on AO3 by kudos were:

In 4 full years, only three works managed to break into the top 20, even though - based on my original data, which you can view here - most of these works have nearly double in the number of kudos they’ve had in that amount of time. Further, the most recently written fic on EITHER of these lists is from 2015 - A Turn of the Earth and Professional Couple Only are from 2015 - and all the rest is older.

These fics aren’t the top 20 because they’re better, and if there was even an ounce of objectivity in this list, it would have actually shown any change in 4 years instead of looking virtually identical. 

Twist and Shout, and the other “most popular” and “most recommended” works in the Destiel fandom have that distinction because they’re the most read, so more people read them, so they’re the most read, so more people read them, so they’re the most read, so...ad infinitum.

And that’s not a judgement call against them! There are fics I LOVE on that top twenty list. But, dear anon, you ask me why I think Twist and Shout is the most popular?

All of this is why. Twist and Shout is the most popular because popularity in fic culture is the only perpetual motion machine in the universe. It is self-perpetuating, and as a result, Twist and Shout will always be the most popular fic in this fandom.

And that’s why I do the faves list - because the tops on AO3 tell us abso-fraggin’-lutely nothing, and I thought we needed a list that actually meant something for what fics people active in the fandom truly love - which DOES include some of those top 20 fics by AO3 data, and includes lots and lots of others that are just as or more wonderful.

1. Musical Beetlejuice or Movie Beetlejuice? Musical, all day everyday! But I’m a musical baby so there’s no choice!

2. Favourite character? Beetlejuice, no doubt!

3. Favourite song? Step Right Up from off the Album, that’s not even a debate. On the Album ummm man that’s hard, I wanna say it’s between Fright of their Lives and What I know Now.  

4. Unpopular opinions? Will Blum is a better Beetlejuice AND Kim Sava is the better Delia. I won’t apologize for it, I will not argue with you about it.  

5. Favourite lydia song? Oh Oh the one with her and Delia, um No Reason, if its just solo then Dead Mom.

6. Day-o or Jump in the line? Let’s Jump! Jump In the Line!

7. The whole being dead thing or That beautiful sound? That Beautiful Sound! Purple is my fav color so the purple lighting, the jumping on that couch, the cerography, the beat, the hints of BeetleBabes. *chefs kiss* it’s near perfection.

8. Favourite understudy/swing? Same as the Answer to Question 4. Kim Sava is my fav Delia, she just acts like she cares so much more about Lydia. Then again Will Blum the small hints of what he brings to Beej just resonates with me more than Alex.

9. Favourite moments? I gotta name my top three cause I don’t have one. “Hey guys awesome séance.” With Red Will Blum, nosebleed everytime. The little Will Blum Dance he does on the staircase which is also my favorite gif, then finally “I’m not going to let you take that from her.”

10. Favourite underappreciated thing? (song, character, costume, etc) Gawd the set transformation. The fact that they tried to use as much as Tim Burtonness as they could. Also that the painting over the fireplace is a replica of the town model in the movie.

11. Favourite line? “NO!...I mean, noooo…”

12. Dream role? If I knew I could pull it off I’d love to do Otho but for something that is manageable to me just one of the clones would do.

13. Something you'd change about it? Put Step Right Up back in or You can only work with what you get, especially YCOWWWYG because I think that’d be a perfect little song that they share just before everything goes to shizz with the book of the recently deceased.

14. Moment from the movie you wish had been in the musical? Ummmm nope I can’t think of anything. The movie is meant to focus on Babs and Adam while the Musical focuses on Beej and Lyds so what they have works fine.

15. Least favourite song? Day-O for just listening. You have to watch what’s going on stage to apricate the song.  

16. Blonde lydia or Black haired lydia? Hmm I prefer the black but I think she looked fine in either.

17. Favourite BJ line? One of the boots had Brightman Beej describing his mom as a literal demon and I wished that stayed in all of them.

18. Favourite lydia line? “The pacific islands are sinking but negative thinking is hardly the cause.”

19. Sandworm or The Pig? Ooooh I flipping love the pig but still the puppetry of the sandworm all day everyday.

20. Wild card, say anything you feel like saying about the musical! The musical is better than the movie in my opinion but again you have to understand that I love musicals more than regular movies. But it’s still what I think, like I said in 14 I don’t wanna focus on Babs and Adam story throughout the movie I’d rather be intrigued with the idea of Beej and Lydia working together to defy rules and regulations and be a couple of strange and unusual beings. But again that’s the great thing about having the three we can all have what we like and just be one big fandom that all likes the same concept of the story.

haha yeah, i’m definitely glad i’m not the oldest (bc that’s way too much responsibility for me, idk how they do it) so being player 2 as a younger sibling isn’t too bad, especially since it’s the story that i’m usually more interested in rather than the gameplay itself. i don’t have to worry about remembering which buttons to press in a fight when i can just watch the plot play out lol. 3) What is your favorite AU/prompt idea/trope for your pairing?

Fav trope is obviously enemies to lovers because come on XD

But favorite AU, oh boy. I have so many of them how do I choose... But probably any canon divergence AU in which Juo survives - be it against his will (as in Yuri got close enough and grabbed him by force) or because his “don’t want to die”-ness was strong enough to overshadow his convictions and he took her hand. The infamous Redemption Arc AU that lives in my brain and I haven’t written one line for because I have too many versions of the same thing lmao i just really like that AU

HOWEVER I can’t not mention the Juo’s Apostle AU here. I rarely ever talk about it but damn... Rika as Juo’s Apostle... I don’t even have any definite or real idea for this AU other than “wow. that’d be dope” but jesus christ the simple idea of it puts sparkles in my eyes

4) Do you prefer canon ideas or do you have your own headcanons for them?

I’m gonna go with canon, here. Miura’s characters are pretty solid yet, in Juo’s case, vague enough to allow hc to fit in without disrupting canon. And their storyline is why I ship them so much in the first place. Also they both incredibly stick to character all along and that’s very hot of Miura to stay consistant in depiction. We say “Thank you Miura”

5) Favorite canon moment of them?

*inhales* YOU ASKED *talks about the Juo arc for so long you’ve stopped reading after the first few paragraphs but it goes on for 50 pages*

I’m only half kidding, because my fav canon moment of them is every single of their interactions and I could go on so long... They’re constantly trying to outsmart the other, to try to manipulate the other into lowering guard, but they’re so evenly matched both in terms of brains and in terms of raw power that they just can’t and they’re stuck and jfc the tension, the undressing, the shameless flirting. The entire phone conversation. 

Tho if I really have to chose, it’d be either “If I have a demand, it’s you” or both of the “I surrender please don’t kill me”. 

6) Least favorite canon moment of them?

It’s kind of fucked up on my part but I love the ugly parts of their relationships. That’s what it’s like to ship enemies. I can’t answers the threats, the manipulations or the murder attempts because that’s what their interactions are made of and that’s what I like. For the first seconds they saw each other they already went the full “hey let me just point a gun at your face while you manipulate me into not killing you despite how much I really should do exactly that”. I saw that and went “nice 👀”

The mask proposal and then boom- careful it gets long

It’d go approximately like this: canon divergent of course but: Juo manages to stop Okihara from destroying the mask or kills Okihara so he doesn’t use the mask he kept for Rika. Then they get on the helicopter and Juo gets the code before allowing Rikuya from seeing it. Having seen the code, Juo is strong enough to resist the Administrator who took Rikuya’s body (then if okihara isn’t dead yet, Admin kills him because heh). Then either Juo pushes him off either Yuri just shows up for their fight and takes them elsewhere. We now have 2 almost full gods + one complete devil. Yuri fights the Admin, defeats him and becomes the new Admin, leaving our final two god candidates to the last level (that we actually don’t know of. how fucked up is that)

So. Judges VS Juo. Juo is like “whatever I only wanted the code because it sounded fun you can be God if you want” and the Judges are like. Bitch we went through all this just for that? And Juo’s like *shrug emoji* “I wanted to test something tho” *takes out his mask* “I want a proper fight with Rika-kun” and Rika is like dude seriously? i sorted my intensities, I’m as strong as the mfing Judge here why would you want to make me wear a mask to then fight me and Juo really doesn’t care because come on that’d be so fun. and they do fight. Rika becomes a 2nd Juo and Juo is having fun. But they’re of equal power. Juo has some vague thoughts of “ah I don’t want to die” like every time but then he realizes that it’s the last fun thing he could do. he’s so powerful no fight will ever have flavor again, you know?

Fighting Rika was his goal and he accomplished it, he didn’t get him to beg but he’s fulfilled but also really really empty now that it’s over so they’re both like huh. I can’t kill you you can’t kill me what up with that and Rika refuses to give up because hey his family, man. So Juo. Man Juo would tell Rika to kill him. No irony, no fake smile, just a tired but honest one, if a little sad, and Rika lowers his hammer like. No. I won’t give you the satisfaction of having me kill you. You were right from the beginning, I won’t kill an unarmed human that’s not resisting. And Juo is like “dude there can’t be two Juos anyway that’s against the rules” and rika is like “that was your idea in the first place wtf” and yuri is like “i make the rules” and, just like she was so ready to give him a second third chance in canon when she jumped to save him, she fully recognizes both Juos as one (like the Judges, you know?) and Juo is like okay yeah I was wrong, that’s nice. And he has an excuse to hold onto Rika because none of them can stand straight on his own

Bam, they’re married by the Admin power and they work through their issues together and Rika slowly accepts his title as Juo - which would be a metaphor of accepting the actual Juo - and they become real close and none of them really confesses they just. you know. are together. It’s smooth, they move in nebulous waters when it comes to their relationship. they don’t have an anniversary etc. But yeah, they’re together

ok i find it extremely funny that first aid was demoted from doctor to nurse, as if that's a thing that happens EVER - I mean it'd be one thing if first aid was a nurse practitioner (which i doubt is a position that exists here), at least that demotion would make sense, but like...the doctors i work with don't know how to do most nurse stuff (like BP, cathing, vaccinations, hell even using some of the thermometers - that's all stuff nurses/etc do), so demoting one to a nurse would be a disaster (just like promoting a really good nurse to a doctor would be a bad idea). anyways i know I'm being pedantic but it Be like that when you work in the medical field and read something that has medicine-related stuff in it

and that wraps up the delphi arc! our first true ‘arc’ of mtmte, and a fantastic one at that. short and snappy and fresh, with some very clever writing and cool new characters, and a lot of great plot threads to be picked up later. plus, we got to see the beginnings of drift and ratchet’s whole thing (and ratchet and pharmas whole thing). and the lost light gets some much needed extra medical staff, so everyone wins! 

well, we’ll see how fort max feels about this all pretty soon.....

Ten Songs Meme

Was tagged by the brilliant @chamerionwrites to list the ten songs I've been listening to.

1. By My Side by Lorrie Morgan Ft. Jon Randall--look y'all, 90's country was the first music genre I listened to--thanks to my father, who'd grown up on the old stuff, and liked the renaissance. An enduring love of it is the thing that was the only good thing he left in the rubble of his wake. Now, in the 90's, country hadn't become virtually indistinguishable from pop; there was less twang, which I was never fond of, except for a little Willie Nelson--, but that iconic sound of fiddles and steel guitar still permeated everything. And I was in musical paradise, since it came so close to my recent but equally beloved folk; everything circles round and all that. One day, I'll do a meta on my top five queens, and maybe a king or two, of 90's country, but for now, suffice it to say Lorrie was bona fide royalty in my book

2. It only takes one shot by Lera Lynn--True Detective's second season is closely tied with its third for some of the TV that compelled me on a visceral id level in the last couple years, and Lera Lynn's gaining of a wider audience is this brilliant gift it graced us with. Some of the most viscerally gutting lyrics delivered in a voice that'd make the angels weep, this is probably my favorite Lynn song and invariably cycles back into my playlists every half year or so.

3. Running Through A Garden by Fleetwood Mac If my father gave me country, my Mom gave me an appreciation for 80's rock. No 70's, so that's a genre I'm still learning, but oh, how she loves her 80's, and as far as she's concerned, Stevie Nicks is fuckin' queen. Even when we can't talk about anything else, we can talk Stevie. Round about two years after Dad left, she was sick and tired of country blasting through the house; she'd already put up with it from him and she was sure as shit not putting up with it anymore. She had a spot of luck, because Fleetwood Mac got it in their heads in 2003--christ I just had to look that up I was only nine that feels surreal-- to produce Peacekeeper. And they put Stevie everywhere. This is my favorite track from that album, and yeah, I'm still fluent enough in a certain Ameri-centric 80's rock to wipe the floor with everyone in Google's Song Quiz. Fleetwood's another band where something from them is almost guaranteed to be in rotation.

4. Magpie To The Morning by Neko Case--My God, Neko. What can you say? When I want poetry that makes story, I go to Anais Mitchell; when I want one of the most unique voices you'll ever find, and images so simultaneously vivid and surreal they'll forever stick with you, I go to Case. This's another first intro to an artist track for me, and I realize how much I, too, have clearly been impacted by end-of-decade nostalgia.

5. Traveler by Chris Stapleton--Stapleton is one of the new country artists blowing my mind; a voice so distinctive and skilled my Mom will cheerfully break her no country rule for him, and that's saying something. It also says something that she introduced me to him, though this wasn't the intro song; for once, I introduced her to this track, and it's my favorite of Stapleton’s to write to, though not necessarily fav overall.

6. Dusk To Dawn by Zayn Ft. Sia--Another Mom intro--and yeah, if you're getting the distinct impression our familial connection is mostly maintained by talking music and nothing else, you'd be dead right. But oh, what a glorious banger this is! Introduced last year and still in rotation, to prove its quality.

7. Annachie Gordon by Loreena McKennitt--A. it's McKennitt and she's a queen. B. one of the most vocally moving, brilliantly arranged versions of this I have or ever will hear. All soaked in lovelorn tragedy as any good Celtic standard should be.

8. I Can't Make You Love Me by Gladys Knight--when my family had its giant Christmas/Thanksgiving combo meetup, Mom was feeling deprived of her The Masked Singer, because second husband is a remote dragon. (Premise being famous people create characters and then perform masked, with suitable dramatics upon their reveal.) My decision to be a good human and indulge her is one of my best of late, because there was this powerhouse voice posing as the Bee, which turned out to be Miss Gladys Knight, who I will shame-facedly admit I had never sought out. A. rectified that. B. her cover of Can't Make You Love Me was her last and best performance of the show and I have furiously sought out every live version.

9. Stockholm by Jason Isbell--Fell in love with Jason about a year back, just as I was entering my folk craze. Still absolutely one of the best. And oh hell this track; so evocative of homesick and lonely and grief. It guts me every damn time, and is just so damn beautifully arranged and performed it leaves me breathless.

10. A Drowning by How To Destroy Angels--This is all @tobermoriansass 's doing. She made her own phenomenal version of this and reminded me how much I fuckin adore Nine Inch Nails which inevitably led back to Angels. Vocally haunting, with fab eerie techno instrumentals--I fucking loved this when I first heard it and love it just as passionately now.

1. Would you rather go to a live dinosaur park (like the one in Jurassic World) or Star Wars creatures park? Considering I went from barely knowing who Darth Vader is to full on Star Wars fan girl in the last couple of months I'd visit the Star Wars creature park.

2. We suddenly come to contact with human, living in an earth-like planet but in a different galaxy. What would you ask them? I'd probably ask them about medical therapies that we haven't discovered yet?

3. Flip phone, slide phone, or this nokia phone? Not this nokia phone, but a very similar one. Definitely Nokia and 'unkaputtbar'(another of my fav german compound words, literally translates to 'not destroyable' and was presumably invented for Nokia phones). I always wanted a slide phone though, but I never got one.

4. If you could bring one extinct animal back, what would it be? That'd be the Quagga. It's a zebra that lost its stripes on its trunk and legs. If the scientific name 'Equus quagga quagga' isn't enough reason to bring it back, it's also really adorable. Unfortunally they were haunted into extinction.

5. Which one sounds more bullshit: ‘if you love him/her let him/her go’ or ‘i am nothing without you’? Ugh, definitely both. But if I have to choose, 'i am nothing without you'. That's somehow my kind of feminism - I'm not dependend from beeing anyone's girl, I do get along pretty well on my own. Also I want to be recognised for me and my achievements and not for being anyone's girlfriend.

6. A beggar came to you. Would you immediately say no or would you just ignore him/her until he/she left? Usually beggars will only sit on the street and hold up a mug here in Germany, so I'd probably ignore that.

7. Mythical/ancient language you really want to learn? As a child I always wanted to learn latin to be able to read all the inscriptions on ancient buildings and in churches. I still kind of would like to improve my latin, yet I know that I really hated those two years of latin courses I had in middle school.

8. Robot/AI apocalypse or zombie apocalypse? In terms of possible survival - probably the zombie apocalypse. Our university libraries periodicals storeroom is two floors below the ground, has several fire doors - word is you could have survived the 'The Walking Dead' scenario in there. (At least I studied there through a storm that left half the city without electricity and didn't realize a thing.)

9. If the earth only have one season (like most planets in Star Wars, LOL), what would you want it to be? I'd wish for a constantly warm autumn (like in late september, when the leaves will change colour and you can walk through big dry piles of foliage that will rustle quietly while the sun still gleams on your back...)

10. If you can communicate with one animal for one day, which animal would it be and what would the conversation be about? I'd pick an axolotl. First of all they're really cute, but they also have great regenerative skills (you can cut off a limb and it'll simply grow back) so maybe we could talk about how they do that and get me a nobel price haha.

Steph: I don’t know, I’m more used to writing only Harry and Louis and they are always somehow similar in my fics, I guess. But it’s been a little roller coaster of feelings to write them in IYEWBIL hahaha (syn: little roller coaster? YOU’VE CRIED TWICE ALREADY that’s an euphemism if i ever heard any)

Syn : i was talking about this with steph and tbh i struggle a bit with harry? i love his quirkiness and shit but i guess i kinda understand where louis comes from more

15. hardest verse to write

Steph: (I’m assuming this is verse as in a part of the fic and not verse as in universe, ‘cause then it would be ABO LOL) I don’t wanna say it was hard, because it flowed naturally, but the break up scene in ELTHDIM was very heavy. Also, Marcel appearing at Louis’ again after 2 years in the interludio: I cried writing that. Not that it was hard, but it was very sentimental. (if we’re talking about having a hard time writing anything, then I did have a hard time with writing my fic for the Potter Direction Exchange, but that’s a whole other thing). But I guess, the hardest thing for me to write is yet to come, so I’m bracing myself and people who are reading IYEWBIL should too lol

Louis heard a small click, their earpiece connection turning off. He rolled his shoulders inside his uniform, suddenly wary of the silence echoing inside the empty store. Normally the black (and dark blue) of his Nightwing costume worked as a camouflage in his environment, much like Batman’s did as well, but he felt exposed inside the lighten up vault as he looked for anything that could help catch the bastard behind the 3 X’s. He took his time, checking the floor, the empty cabinets, the empty shelves, anything and everything. Still, nothing. So he went back to the door, analyzing the scratches there (he still couldn’t believe it, fucking scratches) with his gloved hand caressing them softly.

“Glad to see you admire my work.”

Louis quickly threw a batarang to where the deep, drawled out voice came from, taking his sticks out when he saw the silhouette had dodged his attack. He’d heard no one come in, where did the fucker come from? Fucker was silent, silent like…

He saw a movement come from his side as he exited the vault, blocking the punch with his forearm, getting kneeled in the stomach a second after, too surprised he was by the fast attack. He gasped and stepped backwards, raising his sticks to avoid being clawed - what the fuck, his brain registered in confusion - at, blocking every time, left, right, left, right, right, left, both, the clank of the claws against his shatterproof sticks echoing in the empty store. He was glad his mask had nightvision, otherwise he’d be even more susceptible to the attacks, his reflexes matching them and being able to hold his own in the darkened store, the streetlights weak, reflecting on the empty jewelry display around them, not enough to show much of the person trying to rip his face in two. Speaking of which, Louis concentrated, paying attention to the silhouette in front of him, narrowing his eyes to identify what-

His mistake. Between a block from his hand and another, Louis felt a kick in his stomach, strong enough to push him back into one of the glass tables that held jewelry before, the sound of shattering glass hiding his groan of pain. Fuck, that’d hurt. He blinked, a grimace from pain in his face as he tried to get himself up and look at what he was sure looked like-

A slick noise and then he was on the floor, pieces of glass dragging beneath him as he was pulled by his feet towards his attacker, who was suddenly looking down at him from above, faces inches apart, a smirk in place and black mask covering half of his face.

“Catwoman.”

Satisfied, he smiled bigger, maliciously, leaning down to lick Louis’ cheek. Louis turned his head in disgust, enough to recognize it was a long whip Catwoman secured in her hand and had used to lock his feet and drag him forward.

“Meow.” She whispered in his ear that was just in front of Catwoman’s face as he turned it more to the side. Louis used the distraction her smugness must be to punch her to the side, taking her out of top. She scuffled sideways, gracefully going back to her feet while Louis took the whip from out of his feet.

Then he took a moment to realize what was in front of him.

“You’re a man.”

“My, my, Nightwing, shouldn’t an agent of law and good know better than to designate gender to his comrades?” Catwoman teased, his (her?) voice deep, a small pout forming in his lips.

“You’re not a comrade.” Louis answered irritated, fucking pissed the fucker was teasing him after everything he’d put him through the last months.

Also, he’d licked him. Who even does that.

“No, I’m not.” Catwoman moved his hips slowly, as if he was preparing himself for an attack, as if he was having fun. “I am, however, a man.”

Louis hummed, twirling his sticks in his hands, watching every move the man made in front of him, waiting for the right moment to strike.

“Should I be calling you Catman, then? Instead of Catwoman?”

He scoffed, as if the notion was ridiculous. “Of course not. Catwoman is a title that was so gracefully bestowed upon me, why would I change it? Besides,” he stopped his moving, standing still - too still - in the middle of the floor. “I like how you say it.”

Thoughts on, “Self Control” (Agents of Shield)

That was so freaking amazing. I don’t remember the last time I was that blown away by an episode of any TV show. So many emotional moments and fantastic acting. This is easily one of the best, if not the best episode of AoS. Detailed spoiler thoughts down below.

1. Elizabeth Henstridge freaking destroyed it this episode. Her emotional breakdown as Simmons was some of the best acting I’ve seen. From the moment she realized either her or Fitz was an LMD till right before they meet up with YoYo, that lady constantly broke my heart. She killed a copy of the love of her life! She is going to have PTSD. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they breakup for a bit because of that. Like, I could totally see Fitz proposes after all this is done and Simmons asking for a break. It’d be heartbreaking but totally understandable.

2. I wanna talk about all the framework stuff. Totally thought that Lincoln was coming back but am WAY more blown away by Ward coming back. That was a tasty curve ball. Coulson being a teacher was super cute. Mack still having his kid made my heart break! Fitz all fancy with a woman was interesting. I could see the woman being Aida. That’d be a good twist. May in a Hydra run Triskelion was really surprising. But the thing that got me the most was Jemma’s tombstone. She’s dead?!?! I’m sure they’ll have some awesome reveal when the show comes back, but pains me to even imagine a world without Jemma Simmons.

3. LMD May’s gave a phenomenal freaking speech. That was hands down, Ming-Na Wen’s best performance. It was clear she was gonna die, but she went down SWINGING!! 

4. Another freaking roller coaster of emotions moment was the scene where Daisy Jemma figure if they’re LMDs or not. I could feel that hug through the TV. It was perfect.

5. The return of Agent Piper!! She’s such a small character, but she’s fantastic! I really hope this means will get more of her for the rest of the season.

6. Daisy’s power blast against LMD Mack and LMD Coulson was so unexpected, but so freaking satisfying. They could not have done that sequence any better.

7. I’d really been suspecting that Radcliffe wasn’t going to be around for much longer, but I didn’t think he’d go out the way he did. Aida killed him while shoving him back into the Framework. It was so damn brutal but totally logical. She is easily becoming one of my fav villains in the MCU because she’s not entirely a villain. The lady just wants to experience emotions. That’s an understandable desire. She’s not going about it in the nicest way, but there probably isn’t a nice way to go about it. Aida is both complex and incredibly simple. That’s why I love her so damn much!

I need to stop myself. This episode just elevated this whole season. So freaking amazing! I need a break after something like that. So damn good!!!!!
