I'm at church right now and if theres one thing I don't like about it would be how much I'm expected to smile.

I've heard " hey pretty girl twice since I've gotten here, and all that means is I need to smile.

I don't want to do that.

This church is quite open and larger than other churches. There's a few nurseries here.

I'm hiding in plain sight really.

The door is open but I doubt anyones going to look in here.

St. Peter redesign sort of. I mostly just gave him one of the Pope robes because St. Peter was the first Pope if I am not mistaken, and also I think this might mean that Hazbin Hotel is supposed to follow a more Catholic based lore (obviously this goes in tandem with the cardinal/mortal sins (aka 7 deadly sins) which is a more catholic thing and Al being dressed as a nun, but saints are mostly recognized as a catholic thing but I know that some orthodox sects and I think maybe one Protestant sect also recognize a few saints.).

So anyway I gave him the Pope robe thingy and I made the cross on it upside down to reference how he was crucified and made him a bit more stressed out. Also keys because I thought it would be fun

Your closest bet is like. hopeing that the week you come in just so happens to also be #a week that a church costume department recently donated a bunch of old stuff. but I just haven't really had much luck finding like fancy ve #sts and suit coats and cloaks or like tunics and etc. etc. #Styles like mori kei or cult party kei are pretty accessible and easy for places like the bins (where youre usually digging through piles of #curtains and fabric scraps and doilies anyway). but finding like.. a straight up tudor england costume or something is . VERY rare #Sometimes you do find halloween costumes. Or like. stuff that's clearly like cheap 'Goth' stuff from shein or aliexpress that someone has do #nated and they can be a LITTLE okay in terms of usable for costumes. But you rarely find actual good quality stuff. obviously because like #real very good quality historical costumes are expensive and most people aren't just like 'yeah dump it off to goodwill' lol #In an ideal world though I would have fancy top hats and neck ruffles and stuff .. know this ghhjbhj #Lack of that will not stop me from taking picturesin basically the same outfit 6000 times though. #random personal stuff #whining ahead feel free to ignore #after a little over two weeks with my family I guess it was hard today to go back to church here and #be reminded how easy it is to feel utterly disconnected for some reason #I have a small amount of friends whom I do very much appreciate #but otherwise it's like going through life in a glass case #which is probably my fault somehow #anyway I miss going to a smaller church (it got assimilated into this huge one) #and I miss smaller more intimate Bible study groups #there are more people around now whom it's not easy to be real or vocal in front of #(including the lady who once asked if I were one of the then-pregnant women and can't remember my name etc.) #and that's not their fault and they have every right to be there #it's just a different dynamic and unfortunately it's one that I haven't figured out how to be comfortable in yet #feeling like you belong with particular people is just really hard you know? #it has to be earned and proven and mulled over sometimes for years #before it's ever even believable #I got assigned a while back to consider why the whole disconnect thing #still drawing a blank #probably supposed to have an epiphany about what I'm doing wrong #if so can it be shipped a little faster because I don't have time for this nonsense

Lucy Gray Baird (tbosas) is really reigniting my love for the music I made myself loathe as a kid growing up. Something about bluegrass and folk is just so healing to the soul and the movie does such a great job of portraying music as a beacon of hope and humanity. And I love how Rachel Zegler really embraces the accent and the style of singing, the drawl and the twang, and the way it gives her character so much more charm and beauty rather than it being seen as something that makes her unintelligent or uncivilized. Lucy Gray is my blorbo and I am rotating her around in my brain for eternity.

For one thing, she tells you cool history stuff about Christmas music.

#for another thing this is such a satisfying end to a years long saga #of me trying to figure out if she converted or not #it started when i found a blog post of hers explaining why scripture can't be the only source of christianity #and i was like 'honey you just point-for-point presented most of the catholic arguments against sola scriptura' #but other posts made it clear she was still protestant #so i could hope this was the beginning of a journey but didn't really expect anything #then a long time later she posts about how she and her family have found a church that fits their needs better #which is more how you talk about switching protestant churches and not going through rcia #so i dismissed all but the wildest hope #then she mentioned speaking at a catholic writer's conference #which doesn't necessarily prove anything because ecumenism is a thing #even the fact that she had a catholic branch to her small press didn't prove anything #it was run by her catholic friends and i know of protestants who work very closely with catholic initiatives while remaining protestant #so the evidence was piling up but there was nothing absolutely conclusive so it was driving me bonkers #and then FINALLY for advent she started talking about the liturgical year #and said 'now that my immediate family is catholic we celebrate advent' #AT LAST! Petty rant this morning- I can understand that somtimes even the nicest noises can be a nuisance, even painful, and believe me I have become cranky about all sorts of innocuous noises at the wrong time.

That being said, I have heard a surprising number of people complain about bellringers practising, when they moved into a house next to a mediaeval English church

#Oh I'm sorry we'll just move this twelfth-century bell tower somewhere that doesn't irritate you #Can it sometimes be a rather awful cacophony? Yes but they only get better if they practise #And even the worst noise of bells (from the distance of neighbouring houses not the tower) is better than car engines and drunk arguments #And bellringing is such a magnificent piece of craft and tradition; it's worth preserving even above and beyond any religious role #Though to be fair all the bellringers I've met seem to hold bellringing as their chief religion and are indifferent at best to the church #So it's not even that much of a reminder of Christianity imo #Thouhg I suppose people could disagree #Anyway church bells were one of the best things about living in the south of England #Even when they were rattling away very untidily #I miss them so much being back in Scotland where we only have a handful of towers at best #and certainly don't have the longstanding tradition of ringing in small churches #I have to get my kicks from the Tolbooth clock and let me tell you it just isn't the same as hearing an English bell tower ringing up #Let alone actually ringing the changes #It's one of the few genuinely wholesome English traditions and you want to whine about the sound of BELLS #Not because it's a sensory issue or anything just because you don't like your lie-in being interrupted #But you'd expect your neighbours to put up with your noisy barbecues #Actually never even mind disruptive events like that- in my opinion the noise of your silly car idling in the driveway is worse than bells #You trying to fit your massive SUV down the tiny streets of a small English village #Is always worse than plain hunt
