@grandmother-goblin tagged me to post 5 movies I’d love to show others; planned to post this last week but then I got hit by a car 😔
Those of you that know me well will understand I exercised great restraint with this list. I could have filled it all up with Neil Breen films, but I was good. 😇
On to the movies:
1. Liquid Sky. Sleazy nyc genderqueer sci fi. Killer soundtrack.
2. Petey Wheatstraw - Extremely funny movie with the greatest theme song of all time. Rudy Ray Moore’s best film imo; my brother and I quote this movie all the time.
3. The Devils - one of my favorite films ever, but very hard to find. My brother had to get a Korean release just to watch and the quality was so shitty 😭 Warner brothers won’t rerelease it because it’s too horny I guess
4. Time to Duel - I’ve made two separate friend groups watch this and it was a huge hit each time. Please watch this movie. Kaiba’s actor is on another level.
5. Bound - Butch Gina Gershon and Femme Jennifer Tilly. 🥵🥵🥵 also just an insanely slick and entertaining movie and you can see a lot of neat film making that they carried over to The Matrix
Ok I am going to tag @psalacanthea @spectator-eyes @vspin @mercymaker @collegeoflore @boghermit @omgkalyppso and @bhaalsdeepbat. I want to see all your picks if you choose to share 🤭

Hi 😊
1., 8., 38. for movie game
Thank you 💜
Thank you for these questions! 😊
It's hard to pick just one for the first two, so I'll do my favourite and an additional 'honourable' mention 🤍
1. what is your favorite film of all time?
It was and always will be 'The Matrix'. My uncle introduced it to me when I was 13 and it stuck with me ever since, I'm still obsessed with it and the whole Matrix universe almost 17 years later 💚 (and I mean OBSESSED. I even know the behind the scenes footage by heart)
Tumblr media
Honourable mention: 'Papillon', fantastic movie and based on real events. Steve McQueen is marvellous in it 👌🏻
Tumblr media
8. what’s your comfort film?
'Gone with the wind', reminds me of comfy movie afternoons with my mother and I love the book which the movie is based on 🤍
Tumblr media
Honourable mention: 'The adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the desert', absolute wholesome and unhinged road movie 🚐
Tumblr media
38. in your opinion what is the most overrated movie?
Hm, that's a tough one...after some thinking, I would say 'Titanic' (way too overrated for it being essentially just a romance movie) and 'The Irishman' (watched it and did not see the appeal of it in the slightest. Way too long for it being just meh in the storytelling department as well as not a good pace of events). Just my opinions though.

RETURN OF TAG GAMES
i know i have been gone for what in fandom time is 'forever', so thank you a million for tagging me @celestialmickey @heymrspatel @tanktopgallavich @vintagelacerosette @energievie @stocious @metalheadmickey @gallagher-milkovich
name: lala/larisa
age: 35 but i’m permanently stuck at 25 in my head, i always forget
where in the world are you? 📍 an hour north of chicago, near the wisconsin border
the meaning behind your URL: very self explanatory, i’m not creative with names hehe. but lalazee is my nickname and zee is because my last name is a z name. again, not creative lol
your second favorite color: pink!
any pets? one cat with the personality of a soft bunny & another cat with the personality of a surly dragon
favorite season: autumn!
last thing you read: ‘the only good indians’ by stephen graham jones
last song you listened to: ‘so much (for) stardust’ by fob is playing as i type! i am a true blue lifelong feral fan from ‘take this to your grave (2003) album fan onwards. i’ve already listened to this album so much that my almost ten year old knows most of the words to most of the songs lol
what are you wearing right now? grinning skeleton holding up a coffee cup w a smiley face on it that says ‘STAYIN’ ALIVE’ & pink shorts
a hobby of yours: writing! singing! hiking! camping! cooking! all things horror!
your comfort show or movie: i feel like your comfort movies & shows might not be your all time favs, but more like movies & shows that are easy on your brain to absorb when you’re skull is feeling soupy. as a true 90’s kid, i gravitate for comfort toward those big box office action or disaster films like jurassic park, twister, independence day, the mummy (and 2), men in black, jumanji, matrix, anaconda, etc. . . i have a thing for big monsters & big battles, so also count pacific rim as one of my favorite movies ever too haha
and finally, what are you up to today? it’s spring break! but my spinal surgery blah blah is still healing so i’m relaxing at home while my mom takes my kid to the arcade and candy shop! they’ve been gone four hours, so i can only assume they’ve had a good time lol
FANDOM EDITION
your first fandom(s): First fandom on the INTERNET would have been Star Trek XI. First media that i was unhinged about: X-Files, X-Men, Xena, Sailor Moon (apparently I couldn’t find another X related interest LOL)
your current fandom(s): My Hero Academia, Shameless, Stranger Things, Attack on Titan. . .I actively read for about 5 other fandoms other than those (Supernatural, Witcher, FMA, LOTR, Star Trek), but I’m currently actively writing in these.
how did you first get into fandom? Back when I was living in Glasgow, Scotland, it was my 21st birthday, and my friends and I were going to see a horror movie. Turned out, the tickets were sold out, so we decided to see Star Trek XI. I’d NEVER watched Trek in my life, didn’t know a thing about it, and when I walked out of that theater I was a totally changed human and now I am a Trek Encyclopedia LOL
how long have you been engaging with fandom spaces? Since 2009, so like 14 years.
how often do you read fanfics? Every day, if my brain is healthy enough that day! I sometimes take breaks of a couple months and only read published books though, I feel I get a different experience from both that I can equally appreciate.
top 3 characters from your current fandom(s): Mickey Milkovich, Bakugou Katsuki, Billy Hargrove. Angry disaster babies, I guess.
have you ever written a fic for a fandom? I’ve written 167 fics, not including those on my Patreon. So, over 170 fics, at least.
have you ever drawn fanart for a fandom? No! Funny that I got accepted on scholarship to NIU for Theater & Art, partially on my art portfolio, but I never create any art for anything!
share a personal headcanon that you feel very strongly about: Ian loves his mom more than he feels comfortable saying, because he feels like it's a family and even personal betrayal. I think it’s impossible to accurately describe how to feels to grow up with an abusive parent who vacillates wildly between adoring and abusive, but there’s no feeling quite like loving and hating your parent, desperately wishing you could be what they wanted so they’d stay, and hoping you never see them again. I know we’ve seen Ian follow Monica more than any other kids, but I think that any time he curses her out to his siblings or whoever else, each bad word is also like a self-cut.
you’re trying to convince a friend to get into your current fandom(s) If for My Hero Academia, I would have them watch the Heroes Rising movie, for Shameless I don’t even KNOW where I’d begin tbh LOL
and finally, what does fandom mean to you? Fandom is family! I’ve been in fandom for fourteen years, and I have so so so many real life friends who have been with me through literally the hardest parts of my life. My divorce, my ex husband going to prison, the birth of my child, me being a single parent, moving back to America, my coma, my kidney transplant. My fandom friends from across the world have uplifted me and been my support system through every single high and low. I don’t know how I’d be here without them, quite literally.

Osmosis Jones (2001) is good. Apparently that is an unpopular opinion. Add it to my list of me liking movies "no one else likes."
It's at least the best educational film I've ever seen.
It was a bomb and people don't like the live-action sequences, in which Bill Murray is a disgusting loveable jackass. Those were my favorite parts. There is another universe in which Bill Murray, Molly Shannon and Chris Elliot did a full Farrelly Brothers gross-out comedy, and I'd certainly go there for flies and ice cream.
I wonder if this was a movie that was just ahead of its time. Now, an irreverent mixed-media mashup comedy starring Bill Murray and Chris Rock would probably have a strong opening weekend, at least. I guess in 2001 we were just too busy with Moulin Rouge and Swordfish to fit this into our lives.
Tumblr media
No this isn't from the Matrix. But God, did it want to be...
I know Osmosis Jones went through development hell, which never helps any movie, and by the premiere it was way too expensive. And I don't remember any marketing push for it. But I could be wrong about that. I may have been too distracted trying to figure out what the hell Swordfish was supposed to be about.
...I liked the part where Bill Murray chokes out a chimpanzee for an egg. Maybe I'm just old, but that kind of turn-of-the-century slapstick just tickles my funny bone.
Tumblr media
There aren't even too many dated scenes here, which is impressive for this era. Exactly one Matrix reference, and Jones is gross to a woman for a bit. Oh, and Kid Rock does a rap. But it is in a party in a zit and then he explodes, so fair enough.
The soundtrack is a nice little pile of 20 year old hiphop and R&B nostalgia. Though it didn't sell well at the time. Probably because we were all busy buying the Swordfish soundtrack produced by Paul Oakenfold.
Tumblr media
They also did an Osmosis Jones TV cartoon for a couple of seasons. I've never seen that so I don't know how many Matrix references it included. Probably at least one.
Hey speaking of Matrix references:

Do you have any favorite international films or shows? Is there any scene or quote from anything show/film/novel ect. That has stuck with you?
my favorite show of all time is german! dark!! its a netflix original and its about time travel and its my favorite show on the planet and i’ll never get over it. theres SO many quotes from that show that have stuck with me. the entire meaning behind “a glitch in the matrix” was changed to me after i watched it. it just really changed the way i look at life i love that show with all my heart.
i watch so many foreign shows and movies actually. one of my other all time favorite shows is cable girls which is a spanish netflix original. its about these girls who work at a telephone company in late 1920s madrid. god i love that show. ive also watched elite (also spanish), young royals (swedish), and im currently SO EXCITED for the mini series adaptation of the book all the light we cannot see. that one will be a mix of german and french, its about a german boy training to be a nazi and a blind french girl. AND THE ACTOR FROM DARK IS PLAYING THE GERMAN MAIN CHARACTER!!!!!! GAH I CANT WAIT TO SEE IT!!!!!
as for movies i think my favorite foreign film ever is portrait of a lady on fire (french). thats probably my favorite lesbian story ive ever watched on screen. its set in the 1800s and theres literally like one man in the whole movie and his only line is bonjour its PERFECT. i need to watch it again.
another classic that i never get tired of is parasite (korean). its one of those international films that has become mainstream in america too AS IT SHOULD bc that movie is so fucking fantastic. its such a brilliant story i LOVE it. if any of you reading this still havent watched it please do. i think its the best oscar winning best picture ive ever seen.
for other quotes/scenes that have stuck with me, definitely the entirety of dark but also the book we all looked up. i read it when i was 16 and its still in my top 3 favorite books of all time. its about a meteor hitting earth in a month and how 5 high school kids who barely know each other all cope with the fact. theres this one scene the day before it hits where one of the main characters asks them to tell them a philosophy and give them a reason for why this is happening and he tells this whole story and i just love it so much. something i also fucking love about that book is that the very first sentence in the book is “its not the end of the world” but that line was just referring to a test that they failed. it was said before the meteor was even discovered. I LOVE SHIT LIKE THAT. i didnt even notice it until the second time i read it.

Thoughts On 2023 Favorites
TV Shows 1. Good Omens season 2: Oops, I'm obsessed again. You can make the argument that a second (and PHEW eventual third) season was unnecessary, but I disagree. It was nice to get a season that wasn't so breakneck in it's pacing. Everything slowed down a bit and focused in on Aziraphale and Crowley's shenanigans. Which, let's be honest, is what the audience wants. That being said, I liked everything else about it too. A cute/silly plot, fun new characters, and a devastatingly sad finale that left me distraught. I could not have asked for more really. (Except more kissing. Please tell me there will be more kissing.) 2. Lockwood and Co: A spooky premise that probably took a lot of effort to appear even semi-believable [as a tv show]. Yet, it was pulled off with flying colors. It was also perfectly atmospheric and charming, so of course netflix canceled it. I plan on reading the books.
Animation (TV & Films) 1. Murder Drones: 2023 was a good year for indie animation overall, and out of all of them Murder Drones was the show to win my entire heart. Perfect setup for horror and YA spoofing, but also well written enough that I enjoyed the character focus and progression as well. I'm psyched for the final two episodes set to release in the spring. 2. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: If any movie of recent memory deserved a decent sequel it was this one, so I'm very happy it turned out as great as it did. One of the few comic-book films I bothered with in 2023. 3. Hilda season 3: Easily one of my all-time favorites from Netflix, so I'm beyond happy it has a great ending now. Gorgeous animation, a lovable main and support cast, and perfect chill vibes. Deserves a bluray release. 4. Elemental: Listen. Pixar's still got it this was so cute. You're forgiven for The Good Dinosaur Peter Sohn. 5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem: So much fun tho. Love the current creative trend in cg films happening thanks to Into the Spider-verse. Also, the No Diggity scene was incredible. The movie has an A+ soundtrack. Anime (TV & Films) 1. Trigun Stampede: So relieved this turned out to be great, considering the original is a favorite of mine. Not a easy feat in the age awful, cash-grab reboots. 2. The Boy And The Heron: Honestly? My favorite Miyazaki film since Howl's Moving Castle. Genuinely moving and left me misty-eyed. 3. Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc: This show is so pretty. Still surprised how well the series portrays it’s simple, compelling cast. Like it’s an effortless sort of thing (it’s not). 4. Suzume: Makoto Shinkai's last three movies just make me happy okay. Happy and hopeful. The best comfort movies ever. Video Games I have a steam deck now so you'd think I played a bunch of video games last year but, no. I didn't get heavily into much last year. Played some Hades though? Live Films || Note: I watched so many great classic horror movies this year that I had never given a proper watch. I would like to continue that this year!! 1. Talk to Me: Please make more horror movies Danny and Michael Philippou. This one was wild. 2. Dark City: The fact that The Matrix got four movies and this didn't get any sequels is a fucking tragedy. 3. Coherence: Love me a simple, creepy sci-fi movie with an interesting premise. Apparently, quite a lot of the film is improvised as well? That blew my mind. 4. Greener Grass: More films that just feel like one big Adult Swim skit please. This style of script is hysterical to me. 5. Caveat: This goes on my fave list simply for scaring the shit out of me lmao. Movies walk a fine line, when the intention is to make you uncomfortable for long periods of time. They risk being irritating instead of entertaining. Caveat had me shrieking at my tv (in a delighted sort of way).
Honorable Mentions 1. Lore Olympus 2. Nier Automata anime 3. Asteroid City + Wes Anderson's new short films 4. OPLA
Things I'm Looking Forward to in 2024 1. Dune 2 2. Second season of Severance hopefully! 3. Madoka Magica Movie 4: Walpurgisnacht: Rising?? Is it finally happening or what? 4. New Magnus Archives
Some Creative & General Goals for 2024 I feel like I was drawing a lot more in 2023! Still nothing worth posting online, but I'm making some progress I think (slowly but surely). Goals: make more art for my siblings when they request it, finish some digital art that I started, and finish the diorama piece I planned out. On the general goals I'd like to travel more! Particularly, I'd like to visit some national parks.

Movie buff asks !! (Where I also recommend movies)
‘1. Favorite action film?’
Mine is Hardcore Henry (2015), a movie that’s very interesting in the fact that it’s entirely filmed in first person ! I found it very fun for when u want to turn your brain off and have something exciting to take up your time (also I think the full thing is available on YouTube ? Or at least last time I checked).
And
‘34. An underrated movie?’
Housebound (2014) is a movie I think is very underrated, about a woman who becomes increasingly convinced that her mothers home is haunted after strange things begin to occur, tho because she is staying there due to being put under house arrest, she cannot leave.
OOOOH good ones... hmmm...
For the first... gonna have to go with Everything Everywhere All At Once tbh. the only other times I've really seen where the fighting is also a metacommentary on one of the themes actually being portrayed by the film is The Dark Knight, or The Matrix, and honestly it's just too damn good that one. It's what more action films should strive for tbh and it will never stop exploding my mind.
34. god I have a whole pocket full of underrated movies. first one that comes to mind for me is The Fall- because literally it's so underrated they don't even make copies of it on physical media anymore- and my dad had to pay like 70 bucks to get an old blu-ray copy on ebay for me for christmas a couple years ago. seriously one of the most incredible films I've ever seen and absolutely nobody knows about it anymore (for the lee pace girlies as well- this one is a MUST). But also I feel like I should show my chops as a film major with deep cuts... so lets go with Jafar Panahi's The Mirror- seriously the most insane meta/use of cinematic form I've ever seen (trust me- not a film that can be explained. just has to be seen to be believe. you will literally not expect anything of what happens tho and that's the point). And also I have to shout out to Mike Flanagan's Gerald's Game which I think is probably his best feature-length to date (discounting Midnight Mass, the outlier- and yes Hush is also insanely good but Gerald's Game fucked me up WAY more tbh and is still one of the best horror films I've ever seen- which on that note A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night is great btw). OH!!!!!! And some low-key faves of mine from my dad's old movie marathons: The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (woman talks to an old sailor ghost who is haunting her house and falls in love with him. no I'm not going to project ANOTHER lady terror and francis au onto this one for sure). Also The Court Jester starring Danny Kaye, and The Petrified Forrest (one of Humphrey Bogart's first films ever- and it's GREAT)

Lemme get uhhhh, 4, 5, & 47 off that list please
4. Favorite movie soundtrack.
phantom of the paradise (1974). NEXT!
5. Top 5 films of your favorite actor and actress.
oh jesus . i don't know who my favorite actor & actress are really and there are definitely a handful of them but for the sake of the question and so we are not here listing movies all day i will pick two.
KEANU REEVES
My Own Private Idaho (1991) - ok i don't feel like explaining this one you will just have to trust me on it
Point Break (1991) - for starters acab includes johnny utah but this has to be near the top because i think from an acting standpoint this is a movie i would show to people who have the preconceived notion that keanu is a 'bad actor' to prove them wrong. he's great in this!! above all else i think he has a very magnetic screen presence that exists in all of these that i'm mentioning but it's probably at its highest here.
The Matrix Reloaded (2003) - this is my favorite matrix film :)
Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) - ok i know the british accent isn't good and he's so wooden and weird in this but jonathan harker my babygirl light of my life i love you so. i think the chemistry he has with winona ryder and gary oldman is so potent that it outweighs the quality of his performance. they made his hair grey to show that time had passed.
Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) - ok sorry for retroactively editing this i reread the question and realized this isn't about the actor's performances but the movies themselves. and bill and ted's bogus journey is the pinnacle of cinema
PARKER POSEY
Josie and the Pussycats (2001) - because fiona is the most jerkin' girl in the world. i would let her lure me into her evil record company and ruin my life
Party Girl (1995) - again parker posey is the coolest girl in the entire world. she organized that guy's record collection with the dewey decimal system.
The Doom Generation (1995) - i know she appears in one scene and her total amount of lines could probably be counted on both hands but nothing will ever beat sword wielding lesbian brandi
Clockwatchers (1997) - underrated one in her filmography imo. toni collette is also wonderful in this!!!
Waiting for Guffman (1996) - [solemnly, while grilling a single unseasoned chicken wing] "i'll always have a place at the Dairy Queen....."
47. Movies that you think everyone should watch (not necessarily your favorites)
phantom of the paradise NEEXT!!!!!!! just kidding here's other movies. this one is kinda hard because there are a great number of my favorite films that i think everyone should watch .... hmmm . okay i'm just gonna do a rapid fire list for this one
Wings of Desire (1987)
Alien (1979)
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Chungking Express (1994)
Moonstruck (1987)
Do The Right Thing (1989)
Harold and Maude (1971)
Mamma Mia! (2008)
9 to 5 (1980)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

any movie recs??? 👀
oh anon, i love you and you have no idea the can of worms you have just opened. heck yeah do i have movie recs...
movies i've loved recently:
Rye Lane {incredible modern rom-com, awesome lead performances, gorgeous to look at, takes the "one chaotic day together" narrative structure and runs full speed with it}
Bound {the wachowskis' first movie! a very intense neo-noir thriller. the directing is giving "we're already conceptualizing the matrix" which means they direct the hell out of it}
Harlan County, USA and American Dream {both essential documentaries by Barbara Kopple about union efforts in Pennsylvania in the 70s and Minnesota in the 80s respectively. if you're then looking for a narrative feature with similar themes, Norma Rae is great}
Duck Soup / The Gold Rush / The General {three classics of the Hollywood Golden Age for one! go with Chaplin's The Gold Rush if you want snowy antics in Alaska, Buster Keaton's The General if you wanna see a guy almost die on a train many, many times, and the Marx Brothers' Duck Soup if you want a sharp-witted satire on fascism and war}
movies i personally never shut about:
All the President's Men {it's so sexy when people are good at their jobs! especially if that job is journalist who takes down the nixon administration! if you want a thriller that isn't bloody or overtly sexual, this is the thriller for you!}
The Full Monty {a comedy i believe everyone needs to watch. a 90 minute delight about a group of unemployed blue-collar guys trying to stage a strip show. given it came out in 1997, it's not nearly as dated as you think it'll be and stars a tumblr sexyman hall of famer, Robert Carlyle}
The Vast of Night {weird to describe a movie as gentle sci-fi horror, but that's exactly what this is. it centers around one eerie night in a 1950s town where the local radio station manager and a telephone operator begin picking up strange signals. it has vibes for days and does a lot with a very simple story and small budget}
Cure {...okay, this movie is not for everyone, but if you're down for a very unsettling horror movie, i cannot recommend this one highly enough. the premise is a detective investigating a series of murderers where each murderer has no memory of committing the crime. one of the best-directed movies i've ever seen. like it'll have you holding your breath in scene after scene}
The Last Waltz {since i recommended two other documentaries, i can't resist also recommending my favorite. it's Martin Scorsese's concert film of The Band's final show together. a great movie to put on in the background while cooking / doing chores since it's mostly musical performances, or you can do what i do and stare at Rick Danko the entire time!}
okay, i'll quit while i'm ahead now. if you're looking for movies in a specific genre (drama, comedy, romance, horror, sci-fi, sci-fi horror, horror comedy, romantic comedy with a dash of horror, throw me anything), let me know! i seriously could talk about movies for the rest of my life.

I’ve been loving the fun rogue Snowpiercer questions you’ve been asking, so I’ve got one for you!
For your top 5 characters, what do you think their favourite film would be? 🖤
Awww, thanks! I just love hearing what other people think about this silly little train show that has kinda taken over my life! Also, I adore this ask and have been thinking about it for a looonnnggg time. It took me ages to nail down a movie for Audrey, and even then I think I might've been projecting a little so if anyone has any alternative movies to suggest (y)our faves stayed up late to watch over and over again--please feel free to say so. These are just the ones I came up with:
1) Melanie - I have a feeling Melanie might be a bit of a nerd when it comes to certain movies with cutting edge (at least for the time) practical effects. So I'd imagine her favorite movies would be along the lines of the original Dune, Jurassic Park, the Matrix, Titanic, Independence Day, Total Recall etc. Movies she could appreciate for trying to trick her even if she has already worked out how they got the effect they wanted (and if she watched with others she would be notorious for blurting out bts facts). I would also posit that she has a soft spot for The Princess Bride.
2) Ben - I think Ben would care less about mind bending effects and more about stories that moved him. So I think he would favor movies with heroic figures where good triumphs and the evil doers get their comeuppance (and epic romance), like The Four Feathers and the Count of Monte Cristo. I would also suggest that he introduced Melanie to The Princess Bride because it's the greatest movie ever made a movie about love conquering all and I think Ben would have a whole list of romantic movies like that that he likes to watch with Melanie (think The Notebook, Australia, Sleepless in Seattle, Shakespeare in Love, The Prince and Me, Love Actually, etc) as payback for all the times she made him watch the Alien movies.
3) Alex - listen, Alex spent a lot of time living with her grandparents on their farm. I think one of her favorite movies of all time is Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. I also think Melanie tried to introduce her to the Wizard of Oz when she was very little and so she has an irrational fear of flying monkeys and was suspicious of most movie musicals for awhile, so she liked 'real stories' more, like Free Willy, Babe, Black Beauty etc. But I also think she secretly liked movies that were more whimsical as she got older, with kids being the heroes and saving the day (ie Spy Kids, Labyrinth, E.T., Matilda)
4) Audrey - this was the hardest for me to place, I think Audrey might favor the glitz and glamour of old Hollywood, with classics like Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Casablanca, How to Marry a Millionaire. She might also like movie musicals that she could hum along to (My Fair Lady, Moulin Rouge, the Phantom of the Opera). She might also love tragic romances, like Love in the Time of Cholera, Brokeback Mountain, A Star is Born, etc finding a kind of catharsis in them.
5) Roche - I think Roche just likes a good laugh. He probably falls asleep through most of the romantic comedies Anne likes, and has fought very hard not to learn all the words to every Disney song ever just through exposure as his girls were growing up. I think his favorite movies are the Men in Black movies. And like, Rush Hour, Kindergarten Cop, Air Force One, The Fugitive, Secondhand Lions, etc.

1. favorite action film?
probably either the matrix or terminator 2!
6. favorite movie from the 90’s?
oh this is the most difficult question ever. i think i'd have to narrow it down to fight club and my own private idaho and also every single film gregg araki released in the 90s. but also crash and chungking express......
33. an overrated movie?
maybe inception.. i'm just not a christopher nolan fan i guess
34. an underrated movie?
joyland! i never see anyone talking about it
43. favorite teen movie?
also a tricky one.... clueless and empire records are definitely two of my fav teen films of all time, but honorary mentions to hackers + the teenage apocalypse trilogy
56. movie you completely nerd-out over every time it’s mentioned?
fight club or the social network (i'm a fincher girl at heart)
60. most visually stunning movie you’ve seen?

I fucking love The Smashing Pumpkins. And that’s an understatement. There is so much art, film, and music that has impacted my life profoundly. Because of that, I don’t have any definitive “number one, top all-time” of this or that. For film, it’s tied with “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “The Empire Strikes Back,” and “The Matrix.” And I love film. Once upon a time, I was all set to pursue a career in it. But music is the de facto medium for me in terms of influence over my identity and my life at large. And for that, I have an all-time top five: Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and, you guessed it, The Smashing Pumpkins.
These five are the pillars of my identity influence from a creative standpoint. I play guitar. I’ve been playing for 21 years. I’m not technically amazing. I don’t need to make a career out of it. I just love to play. For me, in tandem with the written word (and occasionally my little doodles), it’s the ultimate catharsis and form of personal creative expression. So I will continue to play so long as my fingers work. And even if they one day get all cramped and stiff, I’ll still probably still try.
Some people don’t care that much about the arts. They’ve adopted a life more focused on the pursuit of other things. And that’s fine. Truly to each their own. But that’s not something I could ever understand. In my mind, the arts are the most sincere and distilled expression of the human spirit, mind, heart, and soul. I don’t know who the hell I would be without the capacity for these things.
And even then, those who don’t put much stock into it can recognize the emotional effects of hearing a specific song, seeing a beautiful painting, watching a moving film. So to whatever degree one allows these artistic expressions to affect them, how deeply they can identify and relate, I believe that we all at least harbor some appreciation and creative empathy.
People like me and the friends I grew up with are the obsessives. We spent our teenage years deep diving into discographies, seeking out our favorite artists' influences, then their influences, and so on. We studied it and learned it was the most important class we’d ever take. Is there practical application from the results? At face value, no. Familiarity with so-and-so’s B-sides isn’t going to help me pay my bills. But in terms of identity and who we build ourselves to be in relation to the world at large, I’d argue it’s pretty critical.
I love my borderline-obsessive nature. Because it’s not an insatiable appetite, but rather the manifestation of intense passion. I am a passionate person, period. I love with ferocity, I seek to know everything I can about the things that matter most to me, and I hold my system of beliefs and philosophies with an iron grip.
And while this passion has for sure gotten me into trouble, it’s also been my greatest source of strength and self-knowledge. Not everyone and everything has a place in our lives. We have to pick and choose and cultivate all of that. So while I’ve had to learn the hard way who and what simply aren’t meant to partake, I’ve also learned how to fiercely hang on and grow and encourage all of the things that build me up and give me that sense of self-knowledge and emotional security.
Being able to heal through the music and lyrics of complete strangers who have profoundly affected my life is evidence of the importance of artistic expression from a cultural standpoint. It’s like when I came into my program of recovery and heard my story coming out of someone else’s mouth: I knew I wasn’t alone. The same concept applies to the arts. Hearing a song that I think to myself, “I could have/I wish I wrote that” is evidence of our shared conscious experience as human beings. The unfathomable depths of suffering I’m feeling? There’s a song for that. Joy greater than I’ve ever known possible? There’s a song for that, too.
I guess the point of this is just a recognition of my (and hopefully all of our) appreciation for the arts, specifically music, in the context of experiencing life itself.
So many critical chapters of my life are benchmarked by a soundtrack. And right now, as I grow into the unequivocal best version of myself I’ve ever been, the soundtrack is Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Corgan and co. have been by my side since I was a toddler. I hope that “1979” is the last song I ever hear.
So I guess I’ll just express my sincere gratitude and recognition that we as a species have evolved to the level of consciousness where artistic and creative expression are so important. Even though it’s become distorted through our “celebrity obsession,” just taking stock of who’s most famous and influential in our society - namely, that they’re almost all artists of some sort - I think we have sufficient evidence of how critical a role it plays in our lives and in our society. I think that creative expression defies logic and reason. It plays into that instinctual, gut-feeling. We have a response. Some of the art I love might be despised by others. And in that lies its own sense of beauty. How we are all the same, yet still unique in our own nuanced ways.
If society were to crumble, people would still create. We’d sit around our radiation bonfires and sing songs until our skin peeled off. Morbid, I know, but you get the point.
So today, I am grateful for our capacity to be creative expressives. It has been life-saving for me in more ways that I’ll ever be able to properly articulate.
So go dance and sing and create. It adds value to the world. And sharing in it is perhaps the most gratifying gift we can give to each other as a society.

Last Series: Agatha Christie’s Poirot. It’s not Sherlock Holmes being extremely homoromantic with Watson but it’s a good show
Random: I learned how to solve a Rubik’s Cube last week! It’s been awesome and i literally cant stop telling people about it! Aside from that not much else has been going on. So I guess I’ll just put some movie opinions here: the Wachowski Sister’s Speed Racer movie is fantastic, the Star Wars prequels are good actually, the Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions are amazing actually, Mad Max Fury Road is a better Fallout movie than we will ever get, and I didn’t care for John Wick 3 that much. Like, it’s Fine? I just think it was doing too much, was too consistently visually overstimulating and less cohesive overall. Also the original “Chocolate Factory” film is low key facinating as shit and yall??? my favorite headcanon ever is that Willy Wonka is the Devil. Like actually and literally Satan. Seriously try watching that movie with that lens next time because it totally fits. He’s this dude who is the complete master of his own corner of the universe, he’s clearly very intelligent and is basically blatantly magical but scratch the surface and he’s also deeply unhinged, he guides the kids through the layers of his factory and literally Tempts them with things that represent their sins or character flaws, he’s all about testing them to see if they’ll resist that temptation or do the right thing in the end, a bunch of other little things that goddamn office of his and that contract and the oompa loompas might as well being demons (which is uh not good racially speaking but it’s better than the surface level text of the movie which basically has them as his slaves so Yikes) like seriously the movie legit gets so much better and interesting if you go into it with “Willy Wonka is the Devil” in your mind go go watch it right now damn you <3
And now I’ll tag @msaprildaniels @thetransgirlwhoneverwas @ginger-snap-talkin-nonsense !

One of the funniest things to ever happen to me was when I decided one day in February of 2020 out of the blue that I knew nothing about the art of film and I wanted to become a cinephile. So I go to Netflix and look up Keanu Reeves bc he was popular online and the first movie I saw was The Matrix. I was like yeah sure I’ve heard so much about it. And then it became my favorite film of all time. The first movie I watched on my quest to love movies became my favorite. And 4 years later it still is. What are the odds.

The Matrix: Resurrections is meta and critical and also true to the original saga. It is simultaneously a giant Fuck You to assholes and a cathartic gift to the fans. Lana Wachowski is one of my favorite film makers of all time and she is a freaking genius. (On a side note please watch Sense8 on Netflix, it's the best tv show I have ever watched in my life, the Wachowskis are brilliant creators.)
At its core, The Matrix series is about the courage and freedom to live your life fully as yourself. That message will never fail to resonate. (Incredibly cathartic, I'm telling you.)
I'd be just as satisfied if they closed the Matrix story here or pushed forward for the second trilogy. Resurrections had everything. So satisfying. Much fun. Chef's kiss. (Also, cats.)
