My last post about bloodweave was pretty negative (though necessarily so imo) so I wanted to talk about the little things about the bloodweave dynamic that I DO like and want to see more of in fic (under the cut).
- the orb means Astarion can't start their relationship transactionally. Gale can't give Astarion blood, and also can't have sex with him (and presumably would refuse casual sex anyway). How would the relationship develop without Astarion being able to rely on the give-and-take, forced instead to just trust Gale will watch his back? Astarion isn't a plans guy, I imagine having to come up with something on the spot (considering none of the other companions are reeaaaally an option either) would lead to a lot more emotional vulnerability as he tries to take a route he has much less experience with. Not to mention that the flirty and standoffish front isn't exactly going to endear him to Gale, who approves of the capable, loyal, and righteous. How long can Astarion pretend to be invested in Gale's wellbeing before it becomes true?
- they both have bad ascension endings, but different natural outcomes. Gale is considered the more morally upstanding one, but in their solo states (without the player's influence) Gale will go through with ascension and Astarion won't. Would they goad each other on? Gale disapproves of Astarion's ascension, using arguments that could apply to himself about the personal sacrifice and loss of the soul. Would Astarion flip them around, become defensive? Their dynamic could mean the power hungry character ending up discouraging the pursuit of godhood, or the two of them hurtling over the edge together. Or, maybe, Astarion encouraging Gale to ascend and having to trust him to return.
- they're the party members with the most life experience, and they're also both pretty well-educated (even if Astarion's law qualifications may well have expired by the events of the game). He spent his time under Cazador sewing (like Gale in his Baldur's Gate epilogue) and learning languages (of which Gale knows four). They have enduring common interests beyond their circumstances. Gale can help Astarion rediscover the latent nerd potential he lost when he died, and lord knows he would love to pick his brain for a first hand account of the mid-to-late 12th century.
- Astarion recently regained hope for his future when the tadpole freed him, Gale recently lost all of it. While act 1 is a continuous series of positive discoveries for Astarion (tadpole frees him from cazador -> ceremorphosis is held off by the dream visitor -> tadpole can be controlled), Gale's life gets worse with time as his treatment stops working. It's a dynamic that could give Gale hope, force Astarion to practise empathy, or put them completely at odds.
- Astarion's all-encompassing desire to reclaim his life could be inspiring to Gale. Moreover, I imagine seeing just how passive Gale is about his death would infuriate him. To have so little regard for his real, mortal, free life? It's a great source of angst, and also a great starting point for Gale to start wanting to live again. Because after learning about Astarion's past he would agree, he'd recognise how much value a mortal life was supposed to have. He'd think himself ungrateful or impolite for entertaining the idea of throwing it away when Astarion would give anything to have what he had. This would lead to guilt, and potentially self-loathing, unless someone was there to help pick up the pieces.
- If Astarion meets Oblodra before Gale's act 2 romance scene, (or for a fanfic plot, just before Gale is confident enough to confess) they most likely won't have sex until the graveyard scene in late act 3 (or the post-ascension equivalent). It means that rather than the fuckfest we so often see from bloodweave fics, the relationship is almost entirely a slow-burning, emotionally intimate affair. I'd really love to see that play out, the progression from semi-horny yearning on both parts as the orb keeps them apart, to two love confessions that are followed by the both of them experiencing non-sexual intimacy for the first time in years. I doubt Mystra was one to hug her chosen, after all, or hold their hands.
I just love a bg3 ship that forces the characters to take different actions than they do in canon. It makes me feel like I'm developing a broader understanding of the characters, you know?

hmmm do ya think arcos and marbella use 'my son' for ksh!lloyd because to still have a connection to the original lloyd/acknowledge that this lloyd is not the original but still our son?
yes! that's exactly it imo!
they know this is not their lloyd, this is not the son they raised, but he's kind and he's good and they love him very much, so that's their son now. finders keepers.
i think postcanon they would have the most difficulty calling him 'lloyd' out of everyone but i don't really think it would be that big of an issue. partially because i think lloyd would understand why they would struggle to use their son's name for him, when he doesn't even look like him anymore, and he wouldn't resent them for it nor would they hold it against him. but also because i think in its place they would start using endearments like 'my son' or 'my dear' and there would be so much love packed into their words lloyd would never doubt for one second that they mean it.
i do think he would be a bit overwhelmed by it at first tho. he's so easy to fluster by sincere compliments in the novel that i think being constantly showered with affection like that would have him cringing out of his skin while also hoarding and clutching every word close to his chest.
there's this really cute scene in the novel (that ofc the comic skipped 🙄) that really encapsulates what i mean
"Yes, I see," the baron said as he gazed at Lloyd. "Um, but why are you looking at me like that?" "Whew, how should I say it? I just think that I am blessed to have you as my son." “...” "Haha, did I make you uncomfortable?" "Um, it's not that, but, well, yes, you are making me uncomfortable," Lloyd said. "And you saying it right at my face makes my stomach churn." Lloyd scratched the back of his head. He did throw a pitch to start another project to the baron, but such praise made his face flush red. But the baron continued to send gazes of confidence to Lloyd despite the latter's evident expression of discomfort. Lloyd was perturbed. Just then, he wondered if there still remained in his heart Suho Kim, the discouraged boy sitting cramped in a small room rental. Lloyd eventually broke into embarrassed laughter.
this happens several times btw. like. lloyd gets so embarrassed by how earnest arcos and marbella are about how much they love him, but at the same time, he can't help but crave and appreciate it. and i think that would carry over later on, even if the layer of guilt he had for deceiving them about his identity is gone.
so. yeah :3

If you don't mind, can I ask your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from Jujutsu Kaisen? And why you loved them? And your top 5 favorite moments from the series? Sorry if you've answered this before.....
Hi! Thanks for the ask :)
Yuuji is definitely my favourite. If you've seen my recent post about what I think makes him a good character you probably already have an idea about what I think of him.
However, what initially drew me to him was how kind hearted he is. There is a certain childlike (not childish) innocence about him that makes him so endearing and sets him apart from other characters. I know Miwa is a sweetheart too, but something about Yuuji makes it feel more earnest. Of course he isn't that "happy go lucky" kid after everything that's happened to him, but it seems to me that he did preserve some of that purity. Mahito said it himself - Yuuji saves people without a second thought. And while that doesn't have to be the best thing one can do in a certain situations, I still love that about him.
There was that scene when Gojo tells Megumi he needs to be more selfish and not throw his life away. That tendency of his was evident during the game of baseball they played against the Kyoto students. But here's the thing, while Yuuji might be more "selfish" in the way Gojo put it (and even compared himself to him), I still think Yuuji is more "selfless" on the battleground. Megumi knows what should be done. Yuuji feels. Megumi will do something because he knows it's for the better (based on his set of values), Yuuji will do something because he feels it's for the better. Because he genuinly cares (not saying Megumi doesn't, but not as much as Yuuji). What I'm trying to say is that if Megumi sacrifices himself it's because it needs to be done, if Yuuji sacrifices himself it's because he feels for those who would suffer if he doesn't. At least that's how I see it.
Then there's Kenjaku - someone who would cause the apocalypse because they are bored. Here's the thing, I didn't read the manga and go, oh I like this one. I started posting silly little scenarios of them and then it hit me like, wait, they are quite interesting. A mad scientist. I do quite like that. I like how curious, playful and unpredictable they are. Plus I have a habit of liking those who think outside the box.
Which brings us to Yuki. Her character is probably the most similar to Kenjaku's in jjk universe - a playful non-conformist who studies ways of the cursed energy. She wants to treat the root of the problem, not simply exorcise curses - finally! It is interesting because her ideals directly oppose Kenjaku's. She thinks breaking away from cursed energy is for the best, while Kenjaku believes that optimising cursed energy is the way to go. Both of them also have a connection to Tengen, she as a previous Star Plasma Vessel and Kenjaku as Tengen's friend. I wish Gege delved deeper in both of their pasts, or at least showed us how two of those traveled (Kenny across Jappan, she abroad) and studied cursed energy.
Also, she's damn cool, okay? I don't make the rules. She just is. I also love how tall she is (probably because I'm tall too 😂 and you don't see many tall women in the media).
Some other characters i like are Shoko, Nobara, Nanami, Choso, Hakari...
As for the favorite moments, the first two on this list are my actual no. 1 and 2, the rest is listed in no particular order other than me remembering them in that way:
1) Yuuji vs Mahito's last fight in s2
2) Yuuji and Nobara vs Eso and Kechizu, then Nobara comforting Yuuji in her own way, s1
3) the trio spilling coffee on Gojo's shirt, s2
4) Nanami saying everything is shit, s1
5) Yuuji vs Mahito first fight, s1
Sukuna vs Jogo was great too imo, and I love the animation of the Star Plasma corridor scene. Actually all scenes with Amanai Riko were well animated.
There are probably more scenes but this list is off the top of my head.
Sorry for the long answer 😅
Have a nice day :)

The 10 Novels I Read on May (+1 bonus cuz it's that good)
Just wanted to say that @thedollymaker and @hippo141 are angels and this post is for you guys! Hope y’all find it useful <3
I’ll be rating and ranking the novels I’ve read from best to worst. Most (more like all) are romance novels which are also popular on BookTok. Writing the tl’dr non-spoiler ver here with more in-depth review on an upcoming post (bc tumblr deleted my half completed in-depth review and it’s nearing 1 am rn so yeah):
1. Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren - 5.1/5 🌟
I have to admit I read this on June 2022, and have read 4 more books since too but I just HAD to put this here because it's that good.
It tells the story of 2 best friends (who are almost soulmate-like imo) who have recently met again after years of losing contact. They had a falling out, but when they met everything just falls so perfectly. And we find out what happened in the past. It had the craziest twist (that i kinda knew was coming but oh my lord let me tell you that I BAWLED). BIG hurt/comfort theme. It reminds me of a warm hug and just - of Home. Home's embrace/warmth if you will.
2. It Ends With Us by Collen Hoover - 5/5 🌟
Girl meets the perfect Boy, but maybe there’s something more than meets the eye. Major page turner, this books makes me feel so much and at the same time left me feeling empty. I learnt valuable real life lessons from this book and you won’t regret picking this up. Hurt/Comfort piece. Also also, read the Author’s Note after ending the novel cuz it provided much needed clarity/resolution/peace.
3. All Your Perfects by Colleen Hover - 5/5 🌟
If you’ve read it ends with us and it left you feeling “it could’ve worked” ((not gonna spoil more but if you know, you know)), then boy is this the perfect one for you. It tells a story of this couple’s journey of overcoming terrible stuff ((think It’s Quiet Uptown, Hamilton)). And also, Best. Coho. Male. Lead. Ever. ((Graham my man, UGH)) So so Romantic.
4. The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood - 5/5 🌟
THIS IS THE CUTEST ROM-COM, way more lighthearted than the previous 2. Fake dating, ball of sunshine x broody/grumpy trope, age gap. It’s so cute and the banter is so amazing. I recommend.
5. Funny You Should Ask by Elisse Sussman - 4.6/5 🌟
This novel to me feels comforting. It’s a slow burn but in a comfortable sense? Journalist and Movie star had an unforgettable weekend that left much needed resolution. A decade later, they met again but both changed and grew for better or for worse. Sometimes, stories don’t have to be dramatic. And this novel feels genuine in a sense - a genuine adoration.
6. Verity by Colleen Hoover - 4.5/5 🌟
Murder-mystery, very suspenseful, very exciting, but leaves you mind fucked. Like after ending this, I was just like what the fuuuuck. This novels fucks with your head like ngl. Best opening scene. Young writer was tasked to finish another successful writer’s novel series after she is left incapacitated. But she found a manuscript that perhaps reveals so many terrible truths, or is it?
7. Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover - 4.1/5 🌟
This book is spicy, hot and romantic. It’s cute. Started a bit slow but it has quite a strong ending. Friends with benefits to lovers. Brother’s best friend. Pining. The my life is too much of a mess to love again trope. ((read this before november 9 for cameos))
8. November 9 by Colleen Hoover - 4/5 🌟
This book is fun and exciting. Boy and girl meets once a year, over a span of 5 (or 6?) years as their relationship grow. It’s endearing, how Ben (main guy) just encourages Fallon (the MC) to love herself more.
9. In Five Years by Rebecca Serle - 3.7/5 🌟
This perfectionistic, planning and success obsessed lawyer saw a vision 5 years into the future to find her planned life so different than it is now. I’d say that this book is not what you think it is. Imo this is not a romance novel, but more on friendship and learning to letting go. Life happens, it still goes on.
10. Confess by Colleen Hoover - 3.3/5 🌟
To love is to sacrifice is the essence of this book. It’s about 2 people who is sacrificing so much to love the people they love. But maybe, they need to learn to value themselves - to not discount themselves too much. And in finding that in each other.
11. Under One Roof by Ali Hazelwood - 3.2/5 🌟
Environmental engineer inherited a house from her mentor. But what said mentor forgot to mention was that half of the ownership of the house belonged to her nephew (who’s this lawyer at this BP-esque unethical capitalistic giga corporation). Enemies to friends to lovers. The stuck under one roof (thus the title) and the oh my god they were roommates trope. It’s short, it’s cute, it’s sweet.
----
Just wanted to say that Colleen Hoover is an amazing writer and reading it ends with you got me out of my reading slump. TikTok is a great place to find recommendations <3 Technically I read like 10 books in 2 weeks and it’s more books I’ve read in the past like what, decade? ((well maybe but like i’ve probably poured those energy into fanfics which could easily quadruple the number but eh)). What I’m trying to say is that this is fun, reading is amazing hahaha.
I’m planning on reading unhoneymooners, hopeless, maybe someday and some other more soon but let’s seee, feel free to drop recs on my askbox~
**EDIT** Ok y'all, Imma do a quick update on the ranks because I read 1 wonderful book that just OOFT.

13, 27 and 28 for the weird writer asks?
Hello hi you are one of my favorite people. <3
13. What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? What is easy?
Oh we aren't pulling punches, are we? The most difficult thing for me to write, I think, is probably recovery from physical injury. I think this might be the strangest answer to this, but I can't connect to physical pain at all when writing it. You can write it graphically and beautifully and it will mean absolutely nothing to me; it will be words on the page and I will not be able to empathize. I'm always jealous of people who get butterflies from the physical because I just do not. As a result, it's very hard for me to write that side because I can't empathize with it at all and. Yeah. Like I can understand there's physical elements but I gloss over that stuff hard for a reason.
Easy is found family. It's very simple for me to envision what I think would be a healthy dynamic, what would be good for someone. I am, at my core, a character writer, and I thrive when I am allowed to let characters interact and build on one another. I love found family so much. It's my comfort zone.
27. Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?
Hmm. The technical answer to this isn't Hollow Knight related and it was because THAT FANDOM is cursed. If I go with Hollow Knight, the answer is Hornet. The reason is that I do not find her very interesting. She's a very common archetype in video game characters - the strong, stoic, responsible older sister type, with a colder edge. I feel like I see characters like her in media all the time. As a result, she doesn't exactly interest me. Every time I have to write adult Hornet, I am breathing into a paper bag and crying.
28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?
Firefly. Which is kind of funny because I was very scared of writing Grimm for a long time. He's my favorite character (today - sometimes it's Hollow - they rotate) and I was daunted because I wanted to write him so differently than most fanfics I'd read had depicted him. The vast majority depict him as, imo, really vapid, flirty playboy - and I liked the idea of that being a facade to hide something a lot more complex. In my first few works, I felt like I touched on the surface of it, but his POV was always super scary to me.
And then I was in the shower, trying to work out a plot hole I'd written myself into in W&G, and I got the line, "Then we shall burn together in treason," and I was like wait. WAIT. I HAVE AN IDEA. I AM A GENIUS ACTUALLY. And I wrote a lot of the scenes from Grimm's introduction chapter in W&G, and realized that I had given him WAY TOO MUCH lore for a character with sub 10k words in that fic.
I knew I had to give him his own story. But I was terrified because I knew I was going to be diverging from fanon again, which seems to be my fucking special talent. Fortunately, @aewrie had my back - they'd already laid down groundwork of a Grimm that didn't fit the common fanon archetypes, and was absolutely endearing to read. They gave me the courage to try it myself.
He's mostly been reliable to me, too. I'm really enjoying writing Red Sky most of the time, despite my current weird writing problems (that I think are less RS-centric and more Ashe-is-Struggling-centric).

Hello....If you don't mind, can I ask your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from Jujutsu Kaisen? And why you loved them? And your top 5 favorite moments from the series? Sorry if you've answered this before.....
hi omg YES thank u for sending i haven't ever answered this! also i'm curious about your top 5 for both!!!! <3 (sorry this is so long 😭)
top 5 characters and why i love them...
1. geto, he is hands down my ultimate favourite. i think he has the most interesting back story, and i love the whole trope of a a character that has gone through something terrible with someone else but one of them became out 'bad', the other 'good'. he's my biggest comfort character!!!! i also like that his morals never changed, it's just his vision of who should be protected did (which i think is understandable, albeit completely wrong). i also love that he's amazing at karate as well, and i love his humour!
2. higuruma!!!!! like geto, i just completely adore his CT. i actually think objectively it's the coolest and most impressive one and i love when gege gets a bit more technical in explaining stuff (like with choso's blood manipulation too), also judgeman's design is AMAZING imo
3. rn shoko, i LOVEEE HER! once again i just think her character design is really cool, i love rct as a technique and i ❤️ characters as healers. i loved her in hidden inventory, i always think about her trying to teach geto and gojo rct in the most nonsense way. i'd say gege give her more screen time but i need her alive and happy with utahime by the end of the manga...
4. YUTA!!!!! once again i just love his character design, he is so cutesy. i love how sweet and adorable and awkward he can be, and ALL of his friendships are so cute. one of the coolest character designs in the manga, and the most recent chapter with his new domain?!!!! i'm still not quite sure if i prefer that or higuruma's domain more, i THINK i prefer deadly sentencing
5. TORN BETWEEN CHOSO AND MAKI, but ultimately i think choso... honestly once again i just love his design, i like the whole idea of what makes humanity and the way he brings in curses vs humans (it works better knowing jogo, dagon, etc all mourned other curses and said to meet again). overall he's charming and funny, nothing endears to me more than a character that just wants to protect someone. the best big brother. i love that he cries a lot, i want to give him a hug.
AND my top 5 moments... (warning for manga spoilers!!!!!!!!!!)
1. nanami's death. as much as i hated it and i love him, the voice acting was INCREDIBLE in that episode. the piano, the way he speaks so quietly, the cut scenes from it being so beautiful to the noises of him being in shibuya. i first watched it drunk and i replayed it honestly about 20 times, i even called my dad and made him watch it while i cried 😭 ... THE FACT THAT JUST BEFORE IT YUJI IS HAVING A BREAKDOWN... ugh all of it!!!!!! everyone's VA was immaculate... the emotion behind yuji's 'what the hell are you mahito' was incredible, and hearing mahito scream back for the first time made my stomach drop. incredible, amazing. i've seen that so many times but just hearing nanami's 'i'm tired, exhausted even' makes me start to tear up. god BLESS the voice actors for that scene
2. yuji vs mahito, specifically the imagery and how yuji is portrayed with the wolves. so beautifully animated, incredible. mahito throwing snow at yuji was sad but satisfying
3. mai's death and maki's awakening... okay so off the bat maki is amazing. seeing mai answer back her father and then sit over maki broke my heart. they're both just kids who love their sibling. they are just so tragic, maki's 'okay i get it, now come back' after mai says as long as i'm around you'll never develop. i love that scene because it shows that maki is already willing to go against all of the odds, even before complete heavenly restriction. i remember her telling yuji she would kill her clan (?) in jjk0 and even believing her then. the burn marks also add a lot to this scene i think. it was just really sadly cathartic to see the resolution to them as sisters, and heartbreaking. the first panel where she open's her eyes telling mai to wake up BREAKS ME. the panic on her face. also the line 'destroy everything big sister'. the fact she does. UGHHH!!!!
4. hmmm... choso's fake memory. the fight scene was really cool, but specifically, the part where yuji is eating with choso and his brothers. it's beautiful. the switch up in the way it's animated, looking like it's on an old vhs tape. so emotional. seeing yuji feeding choso and calling him big brother, just to cut to choso punching something and crying like he can't breathe. ugh i love them
5. the fight scene in hidden inventory... i just love it, i think it sets up all three of their personalities so well. i love how easily it portrays geto's personality: his morals, his ego, the sense of superiority he has. it perfectly displays his and gojo's friendship, their differences. we get to see them so in sync as yaga walks in and they both look away stretching, the way they both antagonise each other in sync before that

i’ve been rewatching a lot of powerpuff girls episodes like i’m honestly determined to watch every episode at this point bc i got sucked in when i was only watching like one or two LOL and boy i have THOUGHTS. for some reason i hardly remember any of these episodes even tho ik i’ve seen them all a bunch of times on boomerang so it’s felt like i’m watching them for the first time with my adult lens. i love all 3 of the main girls they are rlly interesting characters and what i love abt the show is how they balance back and forth between all this crime fighting shit and the girls just living normal lives as preschoolers or whatever bc it can def feel like a slice of life show sometimes in those more laid back episodes not that the superhero shit isn’t fun to watch too bc it is!!!! it reminds me of jimmy neutron a bit how jimmy will have to save the day and shit but he still acts like a normal kid with normal kid problems at the end of the day bc powerpuff girls has that same feel to it which i like where the girls still will act like normal toddlers or whatever and it’s cute & endearing af. ok i’m just gonna flat out say it idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not but blossom is my fav character she’s definitely way more interesting and nuanced than the other two girls while bubbles and buttercup are more one dimensional bc bubbles is just the sweet one and buttercup is the mean one LOL. i like blossom bc she has the traits of both her sisters combined but she’s more balanced out so she can have good chemistry in scenes with either sister whether she agrees with bubbles on something or with buttercup on something. bc blossom knows how to be nice like bubbles in some situations and in other situations she’s more snobby and mean like buttercup. which makes her a good leader too bc of her being complex like that and understanding both sisters. but she’s also flawed too bc she can be stuck up and bossy and vain at times but it makes her interesting imo. bubbles is prob my second fav like she’s cute af and relatable too bc she’s super sweet until u cross her and then she’s like scary and dangerous af LOL. (she’s also a huge meme too) i feel like bubbles is everyone’s fav and it seems like bubbles got the most episodes about her and the most screen time but it kind of bothers me that we didn’t get more blossom episodes considering she’s like technically the main one and it feels like bubbles got all the spotlight just bc she’s funnier. but yeah it bothers me when shows focus too much on the comic relief character. buttercup is my least fav and i remember liking her least growing up too LOL but i’ve grown to like her more rewatching the series bc she’s kind of complex too in her own right she’s super aggressive and tomboyish but she has her soft moments too which makes her interesting. but overall i prob enjoy buttercup the least bc she’s just a bitch for no reason most of the time lol. so yeah my ranking of the girls is
1. blossom
2. bubbles
3. buttercup
and then when we’re looking at the villains of the show that’s a whole different story LMAO. i still have a lot of episodes to go to fully form an opinion on this but HIM is def the breakout villain in the show by FAR. ik mojo jojo is considered like the main villain or whatever but HIM is way more intimidating and you’re like oh fuck whenever he shows up. mojo jojo is hardly that threatening he’s honestly more of just a punchline and u always know the girls are gonna take him down right away by just punching him LOL. whenever HIM shows up it feels like there’s way more at stake so imo he’s the real true #1 villain of the show. mojo jojo is basically darth vader while HIM is emperor palpatine. also princess is the most annoying character ever don’t @ me. i’ve always been a nickelodeon hoe and not a CN hoe but powerpuff girls will always be one of my top 5 shows on CN bc the writing and humor and animation and shit is pretty on par with some of Nick’s greatest stuff. also with tom kenny voicing everyone like he does in spongebob too it gives the show that perfect comedic feel to it that’s nostalgic of early 2000s cartoons. i love craig mccracken’s style bc FHFIF is also one of my favs too for similar reasons.
Tumblr media
anyways which powerpuff girl is ur fav i wanna hear ur thoughts

after this latest ultimate extended rewatch with @lecampy i can finally say for sure: i like the hobbit movies more than the OT ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
All 6 are more consistent in quality than I remembered so there's less for me to get hung up on that i wasn't already accepting from the first movies -- there's infrequently wonky cgi, weird act 3 pacing, and stupid action sequences in the OT but they didn't get in the way of my enjoyment then, that's still the case for me here
i already like tolkien dwarves so all the focus on them was awesome, i like that they blended in some other tolkien works, i like that there were references to the cartoons and various illustrated editions
it must be said -- the soundtrack fucks! howard shore adds some new great dwarvish themes to the leitmotifs we're already familiar with and it works so well -- in particular its underscoring of thorin's descent is really really good
the biggest thing for me though is the characters. I am incredibly fond of all the dwarves, and bc the movies put effort into differentiating them I was able to quickly learn names. i always come away from a rewatching getting attached to a new character (this time its balin ;__;)
riddles in the dark! the barrel escape! goofy and heartfelt songs! outwitting trolls and bluffing dragons! i think all the best stuff from the novel is a lot of fun in large part bc freeman is the perfect bilbo, he handles this ridiculous, increasingly depressing procession of events with a combination of twitchy insecurity and desperate nerve and its exactly as i imagined
dont even get me started on armitage as thorin jesus christ holy fcuk. I'm still recovering and it's been a decade. his last scene had me in hysterics
in general bilbo is a more interesting and compelling protagonist, (all his little tics are so endearing!! there's like 50 Relatable Bilbo Moments per movie) and thorin's tragic character arc beats the shit out of anything from the OT. i wish i had 10 more hours of them interacting. i wish they had more time together
love the stuff with bard the bowman, he is a much more interesting figure than i initially gave him credit for, especially after laketown is destroyed and he's trying to care for all the refugees who immediately looked to him for guidance because he's the one that killed the dragon. he feels the weight of responsibility for their survival on his shoulders, his dragonslaying wasn't so much a feat as it is a prelude to the real work that is the result of prowess -- those who can, MUST. and that pressure drives his plea for thorin to just honor their prior agreement, and the feeling of betrayal when that plea is callously refused. its just like thorin taking responsibility for his people after erebor was lost (and the deliciousness of thorin treating bard like thranduil treated him, and the way the trauma of being abandoned to starvation and exile ripples out over years)
the critique i agree most with is the execution of the kili/tauriel romantic subplot, it could have been better developed imo, theyre really intense about each other after like one conversation LKJFdsjf
pacing is definitely wonky at times
specifically the pacing of the gandalf subplot was not as good as the main plot, but i think it was better handled in the extended editions
i dont think smaug was killed too quickly, or the confrontation was weirdly positioned astride the 2nd and 3rd movies bc the dragon isn't the most interesting antagonist of this story and there are more important things to explore, like thorin's descent into paranoia, his awful choices as a leader once he steps inside erebor and how theyre connected to his past experiences, and the way infighting leaves all parties vulnerable to destruction. but i'm someone who was bummed they cut scourging of the shire from the OT so i would enjoy stuff like this, those arcs that show the fallout after the Big Final Battle, (or what seemed like it at the time), where you have to reconcile real world shit like diplomacy w/ neighboring polities.
i still love the OT, its a classic for a reason, but the hobbit movies are underrated and i'll die on this (under)hill.

Now that the TLOU show's first season is done, I gotta say episode 3 is probably still my favorite. The finale was pretty good, too, especially cuz show!Ellie finally started to actually act and feel like game!Ellie. Which unfortunately doesn't magically make everything that came before better, tho. The changes they made to her character are too egregious to ignore imo. And anyone who knows the shitshow that was tlou part 2, can tell why they made those changes. And for me, at least, it made most of the show hard to watch cuz none of the big moments between her and Joel felt earned, not even remotely close to how powerful and poignant those same scenes are in the game. Bella's bad acting is definitely not helping things either... like, as weird as it seemed to me that they cast Pedro as Joel, he acted extraordinarily well, and in that, easily won me over with his version of Joel. He carried this whole show, as far as I'm concerned cuz neither Bella's acting not her character (or even Joel and Ellie's relationship) were as endearing as Ellie is in the game. But then again, they're setting both Joel and Ellie up to be the villains so they can prop up their fave, abby, so I'm not even surprised with those kind of changes on the show. I can already tell I'll stop watching as soon as Joel gets his brains golfed out of his skull. Until then, I hope they at least make him stay somewhat in-character as opposed to how they assassinated him in part 2 😬

hello bar my lovely <3 i'm sending this while my heart is still aching from 'blondes are done with fun' but in all sincerity that was genuinely beautiful...you did such a wonderful job of capturing renjun's character and just. watching him slowly open up made me so fond of him as a character here
Tumblr media
(lighthearted parts like these were so adorable) + HYUCK'S CHARACTER IN THIS!! he was annoyingly endearing and really just helped to lift the mood of this entire thing up i'm so in love with him here (that aside, he was a really good plot device for allowing mc and renjun's relationship to develop better)
Tumblr media
but also i love how in-depth you went into their thoughts and just. his internal conflict with getting over cheating and how much it hurt him...you genuinely get to witness his growth and it's so? heartwarming in a way. (maybe it's because you're a psychology student) but you're so? intuitive to emotions and bringing it out in words. a lot of stories i've seen don't do the best job of developing the reader but you've done a lovely job of it along with the most wonderful metaphors and just. beautifully-constructed sentences
Tumblr media
and your writing just flows so seamlessly from scene to scene... it felt like a movie and i couldn't look away... thank you for this <3
kalli im literally going to cry my eyes out ???? thank you?? so much???? 😭😭😭😭 i am so so glad the characterization of renjun in this fic is so appreciated and that u liked him sm💕 i truly enjoyed writing him in this fic and slowly developing him as a character and making him slowly open up to the reader!!!
AHAHA im glad my attempts at comedy and lightheartedness worked out!! AND ALSO HYUCKS CHARACTER IN THIS WAS SO FUN TO ME i love him sm 😭😭 he was the main star of the fic imo 😻😻 whenever i write hyuck i just think of writing him as the most annoying gemini i can physically and mentally create and it works out every single time. i also enjoyed using him so much for the plot!!
i always say that even tho my fics lack plot sometimes, i never miss w my character development 😌😌 /j SJSJ i am so happy to see u appreciate the thought and emotion that went into the fic💕 AHAHA idk if this is the psychology student in me but i am glad i can use this quality of mine in writing!!! hearing compliments from u just means a lot to me because i think of u so highly as a writer so this is gen such an honor😭😭
once again thank u SO much for reading and for sending me your thoughts ❤ i appreciate it a lot.

Avatar the way of water
Right so, this is just gonna be me and my thoughts on the new movie. I’ll get to a few things I wanna address in this post as well because I’m indigenous( Lakota) and I feel it should be addressed. This whole thing has spoilers so if you haven’t had a chance to see it feel free to stop reading here.
The movie itself starts off so happy and endearing with the sully family, I wish I could’ve seen even more of them just being content together but this movie literally doesn’t waste time getting into action which I can appreciate but yea I wished more things could’ve been shown before the time jump.
I guess one of my biggest issues so far is that we should’ve seen more of the main cast, I hope they’ll have an extended version with more because I’m honestly just wishing there was more.
Tuk tuk - Protect at all costs
Kiri is an insanely interesting character and the depth she brings is crazy. I love her so much already, sigourney is an amazing actress for sure.
On the topic of spider, his background with quaritch was also interesting because quaritch is going to have a personal stake in it all. I’m starting to think the hate his character is getting is way over the top, he was tortured for info on the sully family and still didn’t give it up. He sabotaged the demon ship to help them when they’re fighting. He grew up around the entire sully family which is why he wears so much na’vi clothing and why Loak even suggested at the end they couldn’t leave him behind. I honestly like him as a character and I think besides being a tarzan archetype, he’s bringing something to the table for the next movies. I’m curious where him and kiri will end up together, if I’m guessing right, is it gonna be some sort of star crossed lover with kiri? Who knows but I’m interested to find out. I enjoyed spiders character dynamic with them all and the interaction between him and kiri was truly so sweet.
Tonowari and Ronal power couple that’s all.
Tsireya and Loak!!!!!! That’s it I love them. They’re fr the new gen Jake and neytiri
Loak couldn’t just stop being like a Jake mini me, his recklessness cost him way too much imo.
Neteyam my beloved I wished he could’ve had more screen time, his death hit just as hard on the second rewatch as it did the first. Sweet boy. ;_; I don’t know how but I honestly hope he’ll come back in the next movies. I wish we got to see more of his character
love dad jake and mom neytiri <3 I wish we saw more of moat tbh.
It was cool to see new creatures in this universe honestly, the tulkun are fascinating.
Honestly, it all looked so pretty. kiri scene with her looking like an angel was possibly my favorite scene in the whole movie.
Quaritch shivers were timbered with neytiri. A son for a son line was so cold I’m still not over it. I’m not really certain with how I feel about quaritch and that they’re setting him up to be the main villain across all of the movies but I guess we’ll just have to see where it goes. Could be good who knows. That dad joke of why so blue legit got a chuckle out of me tho Lmao
Overall, I’d rate it a solid 8.9/10. My biggest problems are that there can only be so much time to watch things in a movie theater setting and I wish more could’ve been expanded upon, not even just one particular thing, just everything in general. Neytiri needed more screen time, Jake needed more screen time. So far, that’s my main problem with it, most of the character development happens off screen. The plot was well enough in my mind, it’s obvious they’re setting it up for the next movies. Not much to critique because I mostly enjoyed it if I’m honest.
This last thing, it does need to be addressed, James Cameron’s comments on Lakota people specifically, and that guardian article that came out 12 years ago.
I totally get why some indigenous people decided to boycott it and that’s extremely valid. I was willing to set it aside to see a movie I’ve been waiting to see since the first one came out when I was 8 years old(im 21 now).
I can tell he takes his inspiration from everywhere, which is nice. What’s so weird to me is the fact in this article he singled (Lakota people) out and called it a dead end society which is really out of pocket and if his comments are outdated, an apology is overdue. Colonization is obviously a major theme with these avatar movies but to call real life indigenous people who still exist a dead end society is not only extremely ignorant but also just completely ignores Lakota and all indigenous peoples who fight against colonization to this literal very day. He makes fictional indigenous aliens then proceeds to insult ones who are still around?
All that being said, James Cameron does come from a position of power. I can enjoy his movies while also being able to separate the art from the artist. If some indigenous can’t move past these comments, I don’t blame them and I hope in the future instead of condescending, ignorant comments, there’s understanding, self education, and actual activism.

1. kdmskdnbzjsjsnxkzjdnsndhxjddh I adore Maverick he's such a little fucking angry cat at times its so endearing. (short people rights!) He's such a jackass (i love him your honour) and he's such a lovable main character.
Huge Iceman fan, love the non regulation dyed hair and chewing gum habit; he is the moment. He's trying his best, being an absolute legend, and looking swaggilicious doing it.
2. In the original? no one. They're everything. In TGM? Penny (see below)
3. probably Goose, obviously everyone loves him but he sometimes sits in the back of my cerebellum on his piano in his Hawai'ian shirts. Fashion icon, the best friend, a great husband/dad and an all around amazing dude. He's such a presence when hes on screen that his death really takes the air from your lungs and leaves you just devastated.
4. Icemav. There's nothing else that really comes close except for the ICONS which are Goose and Carole.
Its really the combination of the acting, the script, and the fact that TGM basically confirmed that they've been married for the last fourty? years. So much so that (imo) tgm only had Penny to distract from them being literally so blindingly queer. Its like 70% of the usual romantic beats and no payoff (unless you're operating on the correct brainwave frequency).
5. probably Wolfman/Hollywood tbh those guys are just coasting happily, no drama, just vibin'
6.+ 7. Rooster/Phoenix, Goose/Maverick, Bob/Hangman, Iceman/Slider - none of them make sense to me and it just seems unnecessary to take two perfectly good friends and try and make 'em romantic. I dont have anything against people who do ship them but for me personally its just not it.
8. I have absolutely no idea. Callsigns are usually decided by other people and they're never something good so most likely "Grumpy"
9. the volleyball–
(rant/essay begins here)
From Top Gun 1986, probably the scene in the 'O' club where Mav and Goose serenade Charlie (the whole piece says so much about their characters and how they interact with everyone including Ice and Slider) Its a hilarious introduction to really most of the cast and it clearly defines the characters who we don't know much about. It also makes the next scene HILARIOUS.
ALSO THE GUY WHO'S CHARLIE'S DATE IS THE REAL VIPER! Pete 'Viper' Pettigrew (real name) who was the technical advisor on the film and a Top Gun Instructor.
+ the final tower buzz with Iceman and Maverick, it gives the film a beautifully circular structure from the beginning and you just know Stinger screamed the house down afterwards. It shows the unity between Iceman and Maverick which as we know continues until Ice's passing fortyish years later. It also shows a real development for both of them from Mr Ice-cold-no-mistakes and Maverick who we can see has more of himself back (like at the beginning of the movie) after Goose's death.
(Imma stop here before i write an essay)
10. 1986 has such an iconic soundtrack - I wasn't a big fan of TGM's admittedly it was far too orchestral for a sequel to rock and roll in the skies.
They should have used modern rock/pop music because it doesn't make sense otherwise the mainly orchestral score doesn't conjure the same ridiculous excitement that the original does. It sounds like any other Marvel movie at times and it really got under my skin in places.
Top Gun 1986 uses Danger Zone three times. THREE.
The score was largely orientated around Penny and Maverick (WHICH IS WRONG) which took away a lot of the emotional weight of Iceman and Mav's relationship friendship.
"but Wasp take my breath away was used in the same-"
Firstly, ik ik. Secondly take my breath away is a fucking banger (thanks Harold) and it fit in snugly with the rest of the soundtrack.
Most of TGM is about Iceman and Maverick, between the guardian angel motifs EVERYWHERE and Iceman's critical role throughout the movie. If anyone should've had a theme it should have been them.
Fight me in the notes.
Penny was thrown in to add stakes if (theoretically) Mav didn't make it back alive she was used to "WELL ACTUALLY-" Rooster's earlier statement about Mav having nothing to loose (and to attempt to make the film considerably straighter) She was three lines from 1986 made into an easy love interest.
(I could probably come up with a considerably better soundtrack on the spot and I don't even want paid!)
(rant over)
Memories by Harold Faltermeyer - the little bit of instrumental that plays when Goose dies and when Maverick is thinking about his dad - Its so striking and sort of whimsical even though its used to convey sadness and grief.
GREAT BALLS OF FIRE (self-explanatory) It was a masterpiece in 1986 and its painfully nostalgic in 2022 (oww my heart, Rooster)
Playing With The Boys - Kenny Loggins strikes again. Banger of a song played over one of the most memorable scenes in movie history, its a brilliant breath of fresh air and so FUN you forget for a few moments that it's a war movie. Great song, great scene and once its embedded in your skull you're going to need an industrial drill to get it out.
thank you for the ask anon :)

Did you enjoy s3? I'm only a couple of episodes in and I'm really not sure how I feel about it yet :/
No spoilers beneath the text aside from some vaguery, but throwing up a read more just in case:
Honestly, I'm still processing how I'm feeling. In hindsight, I wish I hadn't binged all of it at once—not because it isn't good, but because it's a very emotionally heavy season. There are a lot of scenes that are intentionally uncomfortable, sometimes even viscerally painful, and I think I'd have been able to both digest and consider the weight of them better if I had watched the season at a slower pace.
This being said, without going too deep into spoilers, I'd say the theme of this season is the ways families can disappoint one another. Season 1 had a bit of that, but it was introducing us to that dysfunction—this season took the gloves off and punched to hurt. If you preferred the lighter tone of Season 2, you're probably not going to enjoy this as much.
That being said, I do still think it's worthwhile. As painful as it was, the acting was incredible this season. Completely off the charts. And I think characters who've previously had spottier plotlines shone the most this time. What they did with Klaus entirely makes up for what an unsatisfying plotline the cult thing was in S2, and he really comes into his own here. This is also by far the best Viktor's ever been—he feels fully actualized as a character now, and finally comfortable in his own skin. It was wonderful to see!
And then—this might be a controversial take because the fandom's always hated him—but I loved what they did with Luther. His scenes had some of the most heart imo, and despite all the bad things that go down, seeing him grow as a person and find a speck of happiness was very endearing to me.
Aside from that... Well, like I said, I'm still processing everything. The only other thing I have to say is: I think they were very ambitious with the plotline this time. Furthermore, whether or not they bit off more than they can chew depends entirely on if they get a Season 4 or not. Season 3 is a very dark chapter, but it's not the end. If the series concludes here, I think it would be a crushing finish for these characters, but there's a chance for strong emotional payoffs if the series continues into another season to see them through.

SPOILERS Yelan Quest
Warning: Spoilers, long rant that probably got lost somewhere
First and foremost, I felt as if I barely learned much of Yelan during this. She's still as secretive and I personally don't have much to say about her during the quest. I got to see how she does her work and I think that's about it. No background sharing, struggles to fix, or anything really new from what I already know during the Perilous Trail Event. I have enjoyed trying her gameplay more during the quest but I think that's because she's more levelled up compared to the other trials and I experienced using her as a 5th to my usual Team. Other than that, I don't think much happened in terms of Yelan.
That or I have let my focus get stolen by the NPCs because this quest has got some of the most interesting NPCs I have ever encountered. Sure, there's Stanley, Madame Ping, Teppei, and so forth but they were each from different quests and its like one great NPC per quest. Idk but I really liked every NPC that was mostly involved. Uncle Tian, Yelan's 3 assistants , the 3 candidates for Tianshu, and even the crappy Fatui guy. Lol, Uncle Tian and Zhiyi even had more screen time in a cutscene than Yelan. In her own quest! The NPCs for this quest were a lot more endearing imo. I felt as if the interactions between the characters were much more fluid and natural I guess. Idk, I just enjoyed the NPC dialogue for some reason. I barely skipped any. I really liked the banter of Yelan's "little helpers" and Zhiyi's betrayal scene.
The story is pretty good. It's okay. Nothing too crazy but it's not boring either. In fact, I liked it a lot because of the interactions. Yelan, Paimon or NPC. Yelan was pretty chill than I expected. Her interactions with every NPC were nice to watch through. It felt like person to another person not just a playable to an NPC. I also definitely love her voice more for sure.
There's something about this quest that was pleasant to me despite not exactly being anything too big. There's no deep story like with any of the Archons, big adventures like with Klee, Childe, Hu Tao, or even as festive as Yoimiya, and Ayaka's. It was more of calm and pleasant like Ayato's maybe. Felt like a slice of life. If life was in Teyvat I guess.
This rant was mainly because of how I enjoyed the NPCs though. I really liked them that much lmao. I liked the uniforms of Yelan's assitants and lowkey Zhiyi's design. The difference from any other Liyuen is literally combining a hat, a ponytail, and glasses but I kind of liked it. But other than that, pretty fun quest. It was very interesting.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)
SPOILERS AHEAD!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life"
Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) is just your average daydreamer, feeling like his life is mundane until a crucial photo negative is mysteriously not included in the mail. So, like, turns out the negative film captures the essence of Life magazine, and they're all like, "This is it, the heart and soul of our mag!" They decide it's gotta be on the cover of the last-ever print issue before they go all digital. That's when he decides to track it down by retracing the steps of the photographer (Sean Penn), setting off on a globetrotting adventure that's not just about the places he visits but also about discovering himself along the way.
Ben Stiller's portrayal of Walter Mitty is a delightful blend of awkward charm and endearing quirkiness, making him a protagonist you can't help but root for. It's almost as if you can feel his clumsiness and insecurities.
The movie starts off slow, grey and monotonous, depicting Walter's state of mind. His daydreams are frequent, but as he embarks on an adventure that puts him in a situation where he is out of his comfort zone, they frequent lesser and lesser.
The gradual shift from a grey beginnings to a vibrant journey symbolizes his evolution from a passive dreamer to an active participant of his own life. imo this signifies his growth and willingness to confront challenges firsthand, discovering the thrill of living in the moment which he has been missing out on for so many years.
"I pictured you as this little gray piece of paper, but now I see you and it's like Indiana Jones decided to become the lead singer of The Strokes or something."
Tumblr media
One of my favourite daydream sequences has to be the bit where he imagined his love interest, Cheryl Melhoff (Kristen Wiig) singing Space Oddity. This song choice adds layers of symbolism to the scene. The timing of the sequence, from Walter's initial hesitation to his spontaneous leap into the helicopter as it takes off (a moment he had previously refused to board), chefs kiss (do they though?). I like to interpret the lyrics of "Space Oddity," with its themes of isolation, exploration, and the unknown, mirroring Walter's feelings of disconnection from the world and his longing to escape his mundane existence. Despite his lingering caution and fear, evident in his discomfort when the pilot checks on him, Cheryl's rendition of the song in Walter's daydream captures his yearning for a deeper connection and a sense of wonder that transcends the ordinary. Furthermore, Cheryl's portrayal as a singer in Walter's daydream highlights her role as a source of inspiration and motivation for him. Or maybe I'm just overanalyzing things because I always have a soft spot for Bowie lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the topic of film tracks, I absolutely adore the song tracks in this movie. They even threw in "Far Away" from Red Dead Redemption for that epic longboard scene, lol. And can we talk about Junip? They're seriously underrated. Their sound is like mixing Simon and Garfunkel vibes with a sprinkle of Fleet Foxes and Nick Drake.
Imho, some parts are kinda predictable. Boo, a pessimistic snob, I know. Like, how Walter couldn't find Sean in Greenland, but magically locates him when he visits his mom and Sean conveniently stopped by (Bro, what's that about? Nature photographer meeting a magazine guy's mom?). Then, Walter gets the boot from his job and finally gets to expose the jerk asset manager. Next thing you know, he's off on another wild adventure, this time in Afghanistan, risking his life climbing the Himalayas, only to reunite with Sean at the most dramatic moment. And, even though I usually can't stand feel-good movies, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" had me totally hooked. And the ending is all worth it <3
Walter was able to submit the missing negative without ever looking at what it was. It was only then revealed in the ending of the movie, where the "quintessence" of Life magazine is just a picture of Walter sitting outside of the Life building, examining a contact sheet. It's like the whole journey was about finding himself, and in the end, he's the heart and soul of it all.
Overall rating : ♡♡♡♡♡
