This is the first time I am trying to #grow my own vegetables! My dad was generous enough to give me #space in his garden in the backyard and helped me get the garden ready for planting in the beginning of June. It was a little late in the planting season the way I understood it for the Chicagoland area, but I love produce and nature and saw how I could #benefit from working on a long term project... so... So far so good! One of my main goals for my first season is to spend as little money as possible. I considered buying a terrace for the cucumbers to grow on, but a fallen tree branch from a recent #storm I am hoping will work just as well. I cut it and stripping mini branches and then secured them together with pieces of old metal clothes hangers. Total cost: 2.5 hours of my time. I know I can't be the only one who worries. I worry on all sorts of stuff and when I worry I go to emotional eating which is part of why my journey has been... still is so hard for me. I know it's something I have to work on and when I find myself scared or worried I have remind myself of what it says in the Bible. "“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:26-27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ I know He will provide and I know I need only have faith but I'm human and I falter and that's alright. This is a verse that’s been on my mind lately. The Lord has been faithful in revealing certain vices in me that I need to turn over to Him, and one of those is a desire for possessions. He’s using this verse to remind me of where my focus should be. I like to spend money, and I like to have lots of “stuff.” While belongings aren’t necessarily iniquitous, it’s easy for material possessions to become an idol and an unhealthy priority in life. I never want to reach the point where my greatest longing is meaningless “stuff”, for the sake of “stuff.” There are more important things to center my life around: eternal things. My relationship with Jesus. Storing up treasures in heaven. The Great Commission. My faith, which is “of greater worth than gold” (1 Peter 1:7.) The Kingdom of God needs to be my first priority, my sole focus, and where my time is spent.
