An Empty Room - An Episodic / Live Stream Series, Exploring The Connective Tissue Between Six Influential Artists From Atlanta Debuts On Volume.com September 25
Season 1 Featuring Shawn Mullins, Michelle Malone, Three5 Human, Eliot Bronson, Tyrone Jackson, and Grant Green Junior
Tumblr media
(Atlanta, GA) September 15, 2022 - An Empty Room, a 6 part original  series that explores the connective tissue between 6 uniquely influential artists in the often overlooked Atlanta music scene debuts on Volume.com on September 25, 2022. Each episode will be highlighted by a fan-fueled Live Stream watch party.
Created and produced in the height of 2020 when touring artists had to pivot, this series features quality documentary-style storytelling interspersed with musical performances where the up close viewer perspective serves as the sole audience member.
The Atlanta-based Kearns family created and produced the entire series when the music industry as it was once known had shuttered. The family captured intimate performances and never-before heard stories from musicians with deep Atlanta roots during a time when neither producers nor touring musicians had a clear trajectory for creation. “When the artists asked 'What do you want me to play?' I told them: Whatever you would play if you were sitting by yourself in your living room,” says Martin “Marty” Kearns.
“My Son Aaron brings his unique approach to documentary camerawork and editing, Juli, my Wife contributes her artist /  photography expertise and gift for putting people at ease while making sure things keep moving smoothly, and I handle most of the audio and artist liaison department,” says Martin Kearns about working as a family on this series. Kearns is an Atlanta music industry veteran having spent his last 40 years performing as a keyboardist, writing,  engineering, and producing.
Marty's son Aaron who filmed and edited the series shared, "When it comes to my camerawork, specifically handheld, I have the emphasis on the camera being an extension of my own point of view. For that brief moment, I subject all my vision solely through the camera observing the world like I would through my own eyes.”
How To Watch The Series The series debuts on Sunday September 25th at 9 PM EST and will be available to binge in its entirety on Volume.com
Sunday September 25, 2022 9 PM EST  Reserve Free Tickets here.  All shows in the series are free

Michelle Malone Watch Party - Sunday September 25 - 9 PM EST
The series first featured watch party will be with Michelle Malone, a mainstay of American roots music for more than 30 years. Her musical roots run deep and wide like the mighty Mississippi river, twisting and turning through rock, blues, and alt-country music territory. She is "a master at mixing blues and Americana music” (Guitar Player Magazine). Over the course of Malone’s career, she has shared stages with artists from Gregg Allman to Indigo Girls, to Brandi Carlisle and  ZZ Top, released more than a dozen records, and went indie when it still took guts. Her powerful live show will take you on a journey from red dirt back roads to bright city lights. She "has the soul of a bluesman, the heart of a folk singer, and the guts of a rock and roll star wrapped up in one fiery bad ass" (Nashville Rage).
Three 5 Human Watch Party - Sunday October 9 - 9 PM EST
Tomi Martin (guitar) and Trina Mead (vocals) have been compared to many things since working together. Their most flattering is the comparison to Mother's Finest. "Since they are our mentors from day one, we'll take it!!" says Trina. A long musical relationship with these two has been going on since the early 90's. From touring with artists like TLC,Toni Braxton, Outkast and the Indigo Girls to working on records for Madonna, Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger, Stevie Nicks and Caroline Aiken this duo has laid a legacy many would die for.
Tomi & Trina are writing a brand new record for their band Three5Human with hit songwriter Traci Hale (Rihanna, Britney Spears, Mary J Blige) and the 1st single "Hurts When I Breathe" is a power rock ballad that is sure to put them right where they left off. "Rock and roll is and always will be the tie that binds for Tomi Martin & Trina Meade.”
Eliot Bronson Watch Party - Sunday October 23- 9 PM EST
Over the course of five albums, indie folk singer Eliot Bronson has created his own brand of acclaimed Americana. He’s an award-winning songwriter, a road warrior, and an internationally- renowned musician with a voice that swoons and sweeps, championed by everyone from The Baltimore Sun — who’ve hailed him as “a folk singing wunderkind”— to Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb, whose work on 2014’s Eliot Bronson and 2017’s James placed Bronson on the same client roster as Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, and other heartfelt songwriters.
Tyrone Jackson Watch Party - Sunday November 6 - 9 PM EST
Tyrone Jackson is the quintessential jazz piano player. His boundless creativity coupled with harmonic mastery, utilizes the piano as a blank canvas. Jackson is nationally recognized and has traveled the world as a solo artist and sideman. Born in the New Orleans cradle of jazz, Jackson embodies the spirit of the Crescent City. The blends of jazz, funk and Afro-Caribbean melodies are ever present in his work. But of course, musicians are never solely influenced by themselves. Jackson’s teachers are a virtual Who’s Who of great jazz piano players ranging from Ellis Marsalis, Mary Ann Bulla to gospel/classical legend Moses Hogan.
Shawn Mullins Watch Party - Sunday November 20 - 9 PM EST
Shawn Mullins is an American singer-songwriter who specializes in folk rock, instrumental rock, adult alternative, and Americana music. He is best known for the 1998 single “Lullaby”, which hit number one on the Adult Top 40 and was nominated for a Grammy Award.
One of his more famous songs, “All in My Head”, was featured on the hit television sitcom “Scrubs”. This song was written after an email was sent out by the producers of the new show searching for a theme song. Mullins wrote a demo version and sent it in within 24 hours. It wasn’t selected as the theme song, but the demo version was used in a season one episode of the series. Another single, “Shimmer”, was included on the soundtrack for the TV show Dawson’s Creek and was a minor hit. “Shimmer” was also used in Australia as part of its promotional campaign during the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics and is still considered in Australia as the unofficial anthem of the games.
Grant Green Jr. Watch Party - Sunday December 4 - 9 PM EST
Growing up, Grant Green Jr. heard a constant flow of music from his Grandfather, John Green. Playing recordings of Grant Green being a proud father, the younger Green heard guitar playing all the time, the first instrument Jr learned was the harmonica at the age of five. He would watch and listen to an old blues player walk down the alley playing the harmonica and ask his Grandfather to buy him one. His Grandfather bought him a C harmonica and soon he was playing what he heard the blues Musician playing.
He has gone on to playing with Leon Thomas, Jimmy McGriff, Gene Ludwig, Lou Donaldson Dr Lonnie Smith, Red Holloway, Kevin Mahogany, Reuben Wilson, Bernard Purdie in which The Masters Of Groove was formed with Reuben Wilson, Bernard Purdie and Grant Green Jr. among many others.

Title: Malibu, Next To You
Summary: Is it supposed to this hot all summer long? Or is it just him? A very fluffy date with some minor molehills between Veronica and Grayson on a Malibu beach. Just because the sun is down, the night is still young, and so are they. But which way does it go...
Warnings: Fluff, implied smut (I don’t write smut, sorry guys), talks of anxiety
A/N: When this idea came to mind, i say that because i have a roughly planned full series timeline in my head it started with just the first part as a blurb but then I was like hey let's make a series, it was originally to be a reader insert (Y/N, Y/L/N, ect.) but i always have problems doing that as they feel too weird to write so I came up with Veronica and added it to the plot/timeline whatever you'd call it. so you can do that or appreciate it for the beauty it is with Veronica and Grayson.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You know..” Ronnie drifted as she walked kicking the sand beneath her feet forward in a rhythmic pattern,” I’ve never enjoyed going to the beach..” Veronica glanced up from the sand and over to Grayson who gazed down to the ground before making eye contact.
The smell of saltwater brushed their noses, seagulls cawed in the distance as the water crashed closer and closer and then pulled itself back out. The pair, Ronnie and Gray watched the sunset as they walked barefoot as the tide came in and set back out, like both of their hearts, coming to a calm stop and then flooding back in a rampage of fluttering butterflies, beating in there chest.
He explained the currents and she just gawked in a secretive manner, so he didn’t notice, the dumbfounded look his body gave her.
    “Really? You don’t say, I mean I figured that much, for someone who has a fear of seagulls and drowning…” he pondered the thought as his feet stopped the wallow in the incoming tide that was just far enough from Ronnie who was in the dry portion of sand.
She giggled shaking her head continuing down the shore all while facing Grayson,”..are you saying you’re not enjoying yourself?” he shouted over the crashing waves that he ran from to catch up to her.
“You remembered…,” Ronnie’s heart fluttered. Grayson knew about her anxiety.  Ronnie explained to Grayson that night in Starbucks, her fears, in return for him doing the same.  There was a semi prolix list. Seagulls, birds, circus clowns, large crowds, heights, and significantly Drowning.
She shook herself from the bliss and continued, “but, no. No no, no.. of course not. You brought me here!” she exclaimed twirling with open arms, the wind catching her grey wool shawl that covered her white strapless sundress with bright red roses.
Her damp dark brown hair caught in the breeze flew gently, her eyelids covered her vibrant green eyes. Grayson’s eyes followed Veronica in awe as she twirled in the sand and breeze all the way as she ran back to him and nearly ran into him.
   The two laughed and turned around to walk back to the there picnic blanket, both inaudible deciding it was time to eat,” Your something else, you know that?” he offered up to the conversation. His hand brushed against gently against Ronnie’s.
   Ronnie just smiled letting silence sit between then,”..Something good I hope…” the entirety of the walk back to the picnic blanket and the food was silence, blissful and incentive for Grayson, but nervous and nerve wracking for Veronica. She hastily wondered if she had said the wrong thing, or turned him off or away and that’s why he hadn’t said anything, but she tried telling herself it was just the anxiety and the nerves this Italian boy from New Jersey stirred up.
  Veronica Chandler likely always would be anxiety-ridden. After all, Fears my life, Ronnie had the words tattooed on and wrapping around her wrist. The black ink still had water droplets from when she had been swimming and wading in the water with Grayson. Veronica left the fishing on her stepfather’s, Darren,  boat to him and her older brother Noah, even all the while, an excelling science student, she never got how they were floating.
    However, if tonight, if Grayson asked her, Ronnie probably would step foot on a boat.  She never willing went to the beach, even though living in Miami with private beach access growing up at her home, and certainly did not stand by the ocean. But on this evening, Grayson brought her there, and she was happy that he did.
So here they were.
  The sunset warmed Veronica the pinks and blues entangling themselves, like the hopes of how Veronica undeniably wanted to be entangled with Grayson later that night. Something in Grayson hoped it too.
On a picnic blankets, following a stroll along with the tide on the now rather deserted from the public eye, on a beach in Malibu. Munching on what Ronnie’s mom would call “Rabbit Food”.
  “This is one of the best wraps I’ve ever tasted,” Ronnie added as she quietly finished chewing her toes in the sand below and surrounding the blanket.
"Its from.." Grayson paused to chew," this stand in downtown LA, Marty's I think, they're delicious." They made eye contact, Ronnie smiled with her eyes, covering her mouth as she was chewing.
"We should go together sometime,"Ronnie offered nervously.
 "Defiently...,"Grayson brushed his hands above the wrap on a clear piece of plastic wrap beefy ass salad chickpea wrap sat on, in between final swallows of his bites of food he started, "so... care to explain why you ignored me for a week, 'ronica?"
   That's when the evening went south.
What Grayson didn't know, that the week Veronica avoided him..one week desperate Gray was left with no sign she was alive, no text, calls, and no DM’S except the confirmation seen from the first night.
 That week the week she ignored him, the week he was referring too, Veronica,  was in Miami visiting her mother. Veronica had deep-rooted feelings for Grayson.. but, again, like a record used, the last had left a few scratches, and overtime... they scarred.
But it was nothing, Gianna, Mama Chandler couldn't fix...
   Ronnie sighed heavily,"Why does everyone I love settle for someone so low of them?" She pondered the thought in silence as she finished her rant of the night she met Grayson.
 “..well, he sounds like a keeper..and handsome....,” her mother drifted. Ronnie wasn’t paying attention fondling with the small strands that belonged to the blue and white polka-dotted beach towel her mother and herself were tanning on. Within seconds her attention was grabbed by an incoming frisbee, that landed...perfectly in one of the white polka dots. Ronnies eyes widened when she caught its sight, she gazed curiously and then picked it up examine it, before tossing it to the wind aimlessly,”-Veronica! You could have hit someone!” Gianna gently smacked the four-arm of her daughter’s right hand with the back of her hand.
    “Mom!? What the fuck? Did you not see that it landed in the circle, that’s not a coincidence...that’s a fucking conspiracy. Like how a cartoon predicted 9/11 and then moon landing was faked...," Ronnie slumped back so her back rested against the beach chair set up behind her.
"It was an accidental coincidence..dear," her mother licked the tip of her finger pulling the pages apart. Her sun hat covers her sunglasses covered eyes, and held her brown hair in place around her shoulders, she was paler than Ronnie, she and noah got there skin from her absentee father, he was the Brazilian in her jeans.
"Yeah well, accidents don't just happen, accidentally, mother," Veronica huffed and crossed her arms leaning back farther and closing her eyes, enjoying momental peace before the woman started up again.
"When you head back to Los Angeles, you better text that boy, I'll be damned if you pass up a chance with someone like that. He's a good one that Grayson, I can tell. You cant let your life wither away to nothing and give up on love because of one bad drinker and a beater bad apple.. theres good people out there.. you just gotta look in front of you."
The memory on the beach faded, she hadn't realized she had been gazing into Grayson's hazel eyes the entire time the flashback played out in her head like a scene from a movie,"do you, uh. Really want to know? Is it fundamentally necessary.." she drifted off leaving a tenacious gap of silence. Just the wind and the waves to be heard.
Grayson scoffed a chuckle,"..well, no, but, I'd like to know."
Ronnie thought for a few moments, if she didnt tell him, he'd be suspicious, if she told him he might doubt the feelings she had if they were legitament,"I was in Miami. With my mom, i needed advice. A break. I was worried you were..a player. And now I know, I know that your not. Your kind, cute, hot, sexyyy, and-"Veronica's ramble was cut off by Graysons hands wrapping and cupping her head into his hands and pressing his lips to hers.
Internal fire works went off, if it were a movie they would be exploding over the water between there heads just visable to camera shot. Both hearts beat against there respective rib cages, not knowingly they both had been wating for this moment the entirety of the night.
Ronnie's hand came to touch Grays chest shortly before she came up to breath in the salty air,"that.." she panted,"was hot. But, I dont know.. if this'll work. I'm lonely and broken.. and can barely take care of myself, just, Grayson-"
"I like that your broken, and lonely" he grasped her face one hand still behind her head his thumb caressing her cheek,"not like in a kinky sort of way," they both laughed for a few seconds, Ronnie looked down. He placed his pointer fingern underneath her chin, tilting it up,"I could be lonely with you.."
"My place or yours?" She smirked. Hoping that night of entanglement would happen after all.
"Mine, definetly mine." He breathed there chins pressed together.
Ronnie had never run faster than she didn that night, all the way back to the porsche.
What is this sudden influx of "Cabin in the Woods" reblogs? Did you just see it for the first time? Second time? Umpteenth time? Your take on things must be had, lest the old ones wipe it away.
I am SO GLAD... so BLESSED to receive this ask. This turned into a full-on essay, sooooo buckle up and read on. (TL;DR I rewatched Cabin in the Woods and forgot how much I loved it, sooo yes, you're gonna see a lot of it on my dash) - SPOILERS AHEAD
I rewatched Cabin in the Woods for the second time on Saturday night and DEAR GOD. I’m gonna have NO CHILL while responding to this because I’ve been thinking about it for a day and a half already.
First of all, I should probably state for the record that I am a longtime Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. I wasn’t allowed to watch the show when it was airing on television (thanks to my very strict evangelical conservative upbringing) - I found Buffy in my early twenties and fell in love. The subversion of tropes, the excellent character writing hand-in-hand with narrative arcs that actually make sense... it really is one of the greatest shows that’s ever been on TV. Yes, I will fight you about it. I haven’t watched everything Joss Whedon has ever touched, but I also really loved Dr. Horrible’s Singalong Blog and Angel, so I am not a stranger to the Whedonverse.
Cabin in the Woods is the first horror movie I remember watching and genuinely enjoying. Loren and I had decided that, with my being deprived of Halloween traditions (thanks to that upbringing), we wanted to start a new tradition of watching a horror movie on Halloween night. This was back in 2013. Our first daughter was only a few months old.
I’d seen maaaaybe two other actual horror films before CitW - but I’d long been a fan of books, tv shows, and other mediums in the paranormal family (because that was okay, because it was spiritual - thanks again, upbringing). I think a friend from college had recommended it to us - and once I'd seen it had Joss Whedon as a writer and producer, I knew I'd probably like it. So, we put our daughter to bed, snuggled up, turned off all the lights, and watched our very first Halloween horror movie.
I fell in Love.
It was funny? And subversive? And I was scared in a good way?
I had no idea what was going on in the very beginning, but as this tale unspooled itself on our flatscreen, I knew I Loved this movie.
From that day forward, anytime anyone asked me what my favorite horror movie was, I said Cabin in the Woods.
I said that for seven years.
Tumblr media
Somehow, seven years of my life went by? We had another baby? We moved houses? I left jobs and got a new job and Loren moved school sites and wow... somehow it was 2020. We watched lots of horror movies, and not just on Halloween anymore (take that, upbringing!!). We're huge fans of a YouTube channel called Dead Meat, and specifically, a series they do called the Kill Count.
Every Friday, James A. Janisse and his team release a new video counting down the kills in a horror movie. And when I saw at the end of 2019 that he was going to do one for Cabin in the Woods, I was SO EXCITED.
It had been YEARS since I'd seen it, but I remembered that I Loved it. And yes, I'm using Love with a capital L. I Love this movie.
Loren and I watched the Kill Count the day it was released. I remembered most of the kills, and I definitely remembered that ending. It made me so happy to watch something about that movie again.
Some time goes by.
Covid-19 happens. We all get told to shelter in place.
We log in to Hulu one night after the kids are down to watch Letterkenny, and I see that Cabin in the Woods is streaming. I was SO HAPPY to see it there.
Some more time goes by.
We finished watching Letterkenny.
We can't pick another show to watch together. So I suggest we watch Cabin in the Woods.
That was Saturday.
I forgot how much I Love this movie.
Tumblr media
I forgot how much I Love Fran Kranz’s character, Marty.
I forgot about how much I Love the look of relief on Kristen Connolly’s character, Dana's, face when Marty shows up at the dock where she's about to be clobbered to death. She thought he was already dead, but no, he's alive. And he clocks Matty Buckner with his giant bong and they run like hell back to the house.
I forgot that Marty figured out that the whole thing was rigged against them.
I forgot they break into the elevator to confront The Organization about killing their friends.
I FORGOT ABOUT THE VERY TENDER HUGGING FROM BEHIND IN THAT SCARY AS HELL, MASTERFULLY DONE ELEVATOR SCENE.
I forgot about the very painful and earnest exchange of apologies between Marty and Dana at the end, after they decide they’re gonna let the Ancient Ones rise.
I forgot about the way they scoot to be near each other as the building is coming down.
I forgot about the way they put their heads together, shivering, as they huddle for some semblance of safety and comfort as the world is ending.
It's so HUMAN - that last scene between Marty and Dana. And you get this feeling that, if they survived this, they'd maybe have a shot at something good together.
Basically, I forgot how much I Loved this movie.
And it all came back to me on Saturday night.
Tumblr media
It's good writing. It's good acting. It's just good.
Something A LOT of media just isn't anymore.
Character writing. Overall narrative. Subversions on the genre. An ending that is tragic and shocking but still MAKES SENSE.
Watching this movie reminded me of the kinds of characters and stories I love. And it had been a long time since I'd watched something I Loved.
Especially after watching a very popular franchise I love shit the bed last year, I've been feeling very uninspired and unimpressed by most popular media.
Most shows or movies I've watched from the last decade just feel... soulless. They don't make me feel things.
They don't affect me. They're numb, they have no heart. They kinda pass the time but they don’t move me.
The characters don't feel real.
They don't make understandable, human decisions.
It all feels really stilted.
And that’s because the writing is bad.
I think most actors out there are doing their best, but there's just been a deluge of seriously shitty writing, and people aren't discriminating enough to either notice or care, or stop spending their money on things that are frankly, poorly crafted cash grabs.
I don't want to point fingers and name names (because a. that’s been done already, and b. Whedon's not getting off scot-free here, he's one of the men behind one of the biggest franchises of the late 2000s and 2010s) - but somewhere in the last seven years, a lot of soul just died in the writing of American TV and movies.
But not this movie.
This movie is real, and it's human, and it's funny and subversive and tonally resonant and I Love it.
Tumblr media
So yes, the deluge of content is here because I remembered I Loved this movie.
I Love Marty and Dana and their very human clinging to each other in that crumbling building.
I Love those scenes in the elevator, I Love the tragedy of sacrificing young people to appease a nameless evil, I Love the way Marty and Dana choose each other over all the rest of humanity, I Love the humor and the wrongness of it all being engineered in an office.
It's just Good, and I’ve really missed Good Shit.
So yes, I’m gonna post the hell out of The Cabin in the Woods (2011) on this blog for however long I see fit. Bless you, @iowastubborn, for gracing my inbox with this ask. It’s the first thing I’ve written in MONTHS and it felt good to write about something I Love.
If you need me, you can probably find me in the marty x dana tag at 3am anytime in the foreseeable future.
A View To A Winchester (Part 13)
Series Page
Summary: Julie’s starting a new life after divorce in a home with a very nice view.
A Dean X OFC story. I got this idea staring out the view of my home office window and thinking how nice it would be to have Dean Winchester to ogle.
Section Word Count: 5,200
Section Content: fluff, flirting,angst, R-rated language
~~~~~
The first time he had caught Julie staring into his backyard, almost three months ago, Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher” blared in his head. He watched her from his kitchen window, careful to lean out of view so she wouldn’t see him. She was pretty, highlighted in the morning sunshine. Not very tall or short, average height in a pair of flats. He spotted the curves, hiding under dress pants and a cardigan, begging to be seen.
And after a couple weeks of the spying by the hot little librarian, well that was enough to get him to do some digging. Through his research, he found a textbook case of an American female born in the late twentieth century. Giulia Louisa Cuore. Julie to everyone else besides her mom and dad. Born in December of 1981 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to parents who emigrated from Italy.
The little family moved to Wilmington, Delaware when she was a baby. A brother tagged along for the ride four years later. She went to a Catholic elementary school and an all-girls Catholic high school. Dean choked on the beer he was gulping when he’d read that. She was a chubby, awkward kid and teenager, complete with glasses and braces. But damn if she didn’t get better with age as Dean poured through the Internet trail. College followed, nothing spectacular to note, but solid grades. No sports or extracurricular activities to speak of. She got a stable job and then, some years later, she got a ring on it. She became Julie Felton and was married for ten years. The only anomaly, before the divorce, was the lack of kids.
Her life sounded so easy, simple, normal on paper. He knew, of course, nothing was that easy, simple, or normal. But, Julie’s story might have been catalogued in the Women’s Fiction or Romance section of a bookstore. The series Chuck had penned about Dean and Sam’s life was cross-catalogued in Mythology, Horror, Sci-Fi, and Theology.
So, he had decided early on he was going to close the book on Julie Felton. Enjoy her from afar on occasion when he could. Peek at a few pages. Let her slowly put her life back together again and see the story play out from the view of his own backyard. He didn’t know how long she’d stay anyway. The quick separation he’d read about from Steve Felton, a Communications Director at the biggest hospital in upstate Delaware, and her even quicker house purchase during it all, could mean anything. Maybe she was rash, quick to act, like him. Maybe she’d be married in six months, moved out, and he’d never see that pretty face again.
But something told him, from all that he’d learned, that she was methodical and thought long and hard about the consequences her actions created. When she made a decision, he felt she’d follow it through. Another reason he didn’t introduce himself. He knew, could tell, she wanted to meet him. And the more he saw of her, the more he wanted to meet her. Maybe see what normal was like again. But, he was all kinds of trouble. What did Bobby used to say? Ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag.
And, then, when he knew the grass couldn’t wait to get mowed any longer, as Spring pushed the growth of his lawn into high gear, he strolled out to inspect it one morning and got ambushed by a sweet little Italian mother.
Now, not even two months later, after agreeing to mow a neighbor’s lawn, he was back at it. Staring at Julie and she was still none the wiser of his presence. The hospital machines beeped around her bed in the ICU room she’d been wheeled into a half hour ago. A nurse checked and noted the information on the screens.
Now who’s playing hide and seek, Jules?
“Giulia!” Brigida’s tiny frame stood in the doorway.
Another nurse appeared, flustered, behind her. “Ma’am, I’m sorry, we can only have one visitor in this room at a time.”
Dean stood up and walked over to Brigida. She snatched one of his large hands, her hazel eyes wide at the blood all over his shirt. “It’s okay.” He nodded at Brigida and then looked over to the nurse. “I’ll be outside.”
Dean could hear Julie’s mom call out to her again from where he stood in the hallway. From his vantage he saw Samuel and Wes standing in the waiting room at the far end of the corridor. He waved and trudged over to give them what little news he could. Their eyes bugged out even larger than Brigida’s at his appearance.
He knew exactly what was going on with Julie but couldn’t let on a damn thing. The only one who got an earful of the Jinn mythos, Clif notes version style, was Marty. Dean explained everything that had gone down in that afternoon. They used rope to create a tourniquet around Julie’s thigh to slow down the blood loss. Two squad cars and an ambulance showed up not long after. Dean watched the paramedics inspect Julie and move her onto a gurney. They loaded her with care into the back of the emergency vehicle. Marty made sure Dean went along for the ride. Red and blue lights flashed over the warehouse exterior wall and nearby field. They crossed paths with another ambulance on the way to the crime scene. That one would’ve been for Ina’s dead body.
“Are you alright, Dean?” Samuel asked, motioning to Dean’s shirt, after listening to the kidnapping tale.
“Oh, yeah. Not my blood. Or, Julie’s.” He wasn’t going to mention how much blood Julie had been drained of; Wes already looked queasy enough. “Thanks for bringing Brigida.”
“Of course.” Samuel stated. “So, she’s stable?”
“As stable as one can be when they’re unconscious.” Dean shrugged. He clocked a state trooper staring at him in the waiting room. The man in the head to toe khaki ensemble marched toward him in his brown boots. Marty told me I’d need to be prepared to go in for questioning as soon as things calmed down. “Listen, I’m probably going to have to head to the police station soon. Will you be able to stay?”
They nodded in unison. Dean turned at the tap on his shoulder. The trooper’s bushy mustache twitched as he spoke. “Dean Winchester?”
“That’d be me.”
“Officer Murray. Detective Martin Tullman wants me to escort you to the station for some routine questioning.”
There’s absolutely nothing routine about any of this. “Sure. But, I need to be able to get back here as soon as possible. Oh, and just one question for you.”
The officer tipped his hat and waited.
“Who’s driving me back to get my car?”
~~~~~
After the station and the ride back to get Baby, he had checked in with Wes and Samuel. They were still at the hospital with Brigida at almost midnight. There was no new news to report. Dean took the opportunity to race home and shower off the Jinn bits. He beat his record for the quickest clean and clothe and headed back.
When Dean arrived, he ordered Wes and Samuel to get themselves home. Brigida insisted that she would stay at the hospital all night, sleep in the waiting room, and that Dean should go home as well.
“There’s no way you’re staying here by yourself.” Dean shook his head. “Julie will kill me when she wakes up.”
Brigida offered a weary smile. They sat in the waiting room, now a lot less populated since visiting hours were over. A few other people and groups milled about like Brigida and Dean, hoping for some good news.
“Want me to get you something from the vending machine? I’m sure you haven’t eaten. Julie… she mentioned you’re on a lot of medication. The last thing she’d want is for you to get sick because you aren’t taking care of yourself with all this worry.”
“I took them. I can’t eat all that junk.” A wave of her hand dismissed the offer. “My sugar will go up. It’s already too high. I feel it.”
Dean frowned.
“You can take me back to Julie’s in a little while.” She clutched her purse to her chest. “I’ll get myself home in the morning for all my medicine and other things. Then, I’ll come back here.”
“Okay.” He knew better than to push any further. He clapped a hand on her forearm. “You just let me know when you’re ready to leave. And, I’ll take you back here in the morning.”
She tapped his hand on her arm. “I knew you were a good man.”
A tall, skinny man in grey jogging pants and a blue hoodie rushed up to Brigida. “How’s Julie?”
It took Dean a second to place him. He’d seen that face when he was snooping into Julie. But the pictures he’d seen of this man had a lot less wrinkles and a lot more hair.
“Steve?” Brigida’s face turned stern. “What are you doing here?”
“I got a call from the hospital a few hours ago, but I missed it. I’m still listed as an emergency contact.” Steve looked to Dean and then to his hand consoling Brigida. “How’s Julie?” he repeated.
Brigida choked back a ton of emotions, her face reddening.
Dean cleared his throat and spoke. “She’s unconscious. Doctor’s aren’t sure what’s wrong yet. They’ve run a bunch of tests. No brain trauma they can see.”
Steve scrunched his face up and snapped his head back. He looked like a disgruntled turtle. “Who are you?”
“Dean Winchester. I’m a neighbor of Julie’s.” He didn’t bother to offer his hand to shake.
“What happened?” Steve stared at Brigida again.
Dean rose and stepped in between Brigida and Steve. A small part of him took pride in the fact that he was taller than Julie’s ex. “Look, Steve. Brigida doesn’t have a whole lot in terms of details.” He lowered his voice. “I was the one that found Julie.”
Steve straightened his posture but still couldn’t make up much of the height difference. “What do you mean found her? Where?”
“You should probably reach out to a Detective Martin Tullman for the details. State Police. Troop 6. He may not be able to give them to you, though, being that you aren’t married to Julie anymore.”
The blue irises hid behind narrowing lids. “Who’d you say you were again?”
“Dean Winchester.”
Steve nodded his head. “Well, being that I’m the Communications Director at this hospital, I’m sure I can get all the information that I need.” He turned and headed for the nurses’ station.
“Just make sure it’s legal and you follow all that HIPPA crap,” Dean added, loud and clear, so everyone could hear. “Lawsuits are a bitch.”
Steve stopped his advance, cocked his head to Dean and Brigida, and faked a painful smile. “I’d appreciate it if you’d keep me apprised of Julie’s condition, Mom.” He stormed off.
Brigida scoffed and sniffled back some tears. “Mom. He hardly ever called me that when they were married.” She groaned at the sound of her knees creaking when she got up. “I’m going to go say good night to Giulia.”
“Brigida, I don’t think they’ll…”
Another hand wave. “Let them try and stop me. Coming?”
“I-I don’t…”
A hand wrapped in the crook of his elbow. “Then, just come along and get me down this hallway.” The tired nurse at the station acknowledged and watched them pass by with a smile. “Remind me to bring that one some food. She needs to eat more.” Brigida whispered to Dean. He chuckled.
Julie’s room was dark. A shaft of hallway light spilled onto the speckled tile floor. Their shadows broke into the room before they stepped inside. A painful ache stabbed Dean in the chest. Julie was awash in artificial blue light radiating from the machines monitoring her condition. A bunch of wires and tubes were strapped to her lifeless frame, including one intubating her.
Brigida leaned over the edge of her daughter’s hospital bed. Her hand stretched to reach Julie’s forehead. She closed her hands and started reciting something in Italian. Her fingers made small gestures of the cross over and over the skin while she continued the incantation. She rubbed the forehead gently when she was done. Something on Dean’s face must have required an explanation, because she stated, “In case she was cursed with Malocchio.”
“Cursed with what?”
“Evil eye. That was a prayer I learned when I was little to help get rid of it.”
Dean walked over to the other side of the bed. “You believe in curses, Brigida?”
Brigida nodded. “There’s a lot I believe in that Giulia thinks is crazy. Curses, ghosts, possession. I saw many things growing up in Italy that no one could explain.” She kissed her own fingers and then placed them on Julie’s forehead. “I just don’t want her in more pain than she already is. Can’t hurt.”
Dean smiled. “No. Can’t hurt.”
“I’m gonna go find out what kind of pasta that nurse likes and make sure she’ll be here tomorrow.” Brigida headed toward the exit. “Say goodnight.” She smiled and left Dean alone in the room with Julie.
Dean sighed and stared at Julie. “Don’t believe in the supernatural, huh? Gonna make for quite an awkward explanation about the family business.” He bent down, grabbed her hand, and whispered. “If you can hear me, Julie, I need you to listen. You’re dreaming right now. However great it is, it’s just a dream. And, you need to wake up. So, I’m going to do what I can on this side in the land of the living. But you can end it, too.” He swallowed. “If you kill yourself in the dream, you’ll wake up. But even more important… if you die any other way, not by your own hands… you won’t wake up. Ever again.” Dean pursed his lips together for a brief moment. “So, you need to be careful, okay? Until I can fix it or you beat me to it.”
He leaned in and brushed his lips against her forehead. Then, he said a silent prayer and kissed her forehead one more time. “Can’t hurt.”
~~~~~
“What are you up to, Winchester?” Julie called across the yard, over to Dean, her hands clutching the top of the chain link fence. The property divider prevented her from sprinting through the grass and into those arms of his.
He dropped a bucket by one of Baby’s dirty rims and headed to the shed. “What’s it look like I’m doing?” He smirked in her direction.
She squinted and identified some cleaning products peeking out of the top of the bucket. She was too damn far away from the man. It wasn’t fair. It’s not like she could hop a fence as easy as he could.
He emerged from the shed with a water hose wrapped in a neat bundle and draped over a shoulder. “Wanna help?”
Her internal temperature rose about ten degrees. The bright blue sunny day with not a cloud in the sky had little to do with it. That thin white, v-neck t-shirt clinging to Dean accounted for three degrees. The curve of his ass, filling out his faded jeans as he bent down to connect the house to the spigot ticked up another two degrees. But, it was the full-watt smile that he beamed up at her when he rose, along with a wipe of his wet hand along one denim clad ass cheek that made up the other five.
He rubbed his hands together and strolled over to meet her on the fence line. His cool to the touch, damp palm rested on her fingers. He kissed her lips, not caring who was looking, out in the open. But Julie felt like it was only him and her in the whole entire world, right then and there. He licked his lips when he was done. “She’s gotten all kinds of filthy.”
She grinned. “Still talking about the car?”
He nipped at her top lip. “Come on, babe.” He smirked. “I wanna get you all wet.”
“I don’t know.” She sighed, her inner walls clenching at Dean’s naughty gaze and innuendo. “Washing Baby? That’s quite a big step in our relationship. What if I scratch her?”
“I won’t let you handle any tools that can do any damage. Just a sudsy wet sponge.” He kissed her forehead. “Can’t hurt.”
“Alright.”
He walked backwards and swung out an arm. “Get on over here, then.”
Julie frowned and searched her yard. She lifted a finger, an idea forming. One wicker chair was pulled to the fence. She stepped onto it, chair legs shaking on the uneven ground, and took a deep breath. The top of the fence pressed into her torso. “I have no athletic coordination, you know.”
“Give yourself a good hop up and over. Let your feet hit the ground first and not your face.” He chuckled. His hands were on his hips, bow legs flared out, as he watched and waited in a superhero stance. All he needed was a cape.
“Okay. Here goes nothing.” Julie jumped.
~~~~~
Dean twirled her around from the stove and the pot of boiling pasta that garnered her attention. He held her in a tight vice grip and stared into her eyes. She held onto the wet, wooden spoon wedged between their bodies. His eyes shifted to a mossy green shade. “Gotcha.” He whispered.
“Never have truer words been spoken.” Julie smiled. She shimmied her hands up and out to rest her forearms atop broad shoulders. The spoon swayed behind his back. “How do you like your spaghetti? Al dente or mushy?”
“Whatever gives me more time to do this.” He bent down and opened her lips with a parting of his own. His tongue delved inside, tasting her, making her moan at the strength and thoroughness of that particular muscle. Hands splayed over her back, pushing her close.
She was panting and out of breath when he finally pulled his mouth away. His eyes widened at the scene behind her. “Shit!”
The overflow of bubbling water seared and sizzled against the side of the pot and into the burner’s flames. “Shit!” She repeated and rotated in his arms to turn off the gas. “You made me lose all track of time.” An attempt to calm the roaring water with a swish of the spoon did little. When the boil subsided, she fished out a long strand and bit into it. “Well, at least they’re not ruined.”
Dean’s hands rested on her hips, leaning into her backside. He contorted his tall frame and rested his chin on her right shoulder. “I’ll be the judge.” His jaw moved and pressed into her skin, unhinged, open, and waiting. She pulled out another bit of pasta and dangled it over his lips. He captured and slurped the entire length in a second. Droplets of pasta water hit her cheeks. “Yep, it’s good.”
A quick pull of potholders over her hands readied for dumping pasta into the colander. “You are not allowed in the kitchen when I’m cooking. Too much of a distraction.” She bumped her ass into his thighs. “Move.” She giggled.
He sighed and leaned back, stepping toward the counter. “Fine.” Water poured into the sink and drowned out his other comment.
“What?” she turned and asked.
“I said I couldn’t help it. I’m hungry.” He raised an eyebrow.
She shook her head and felt the pasta steam redden her face. “You’re always hungry.”
He shrugged, not putting up an argument. “You done?”
Julie’s mouth opened. She placed the empty pot back on the stove. Her potholder clad hands fisted and rested on her hips. “I’m sorry, am I not moving fast enough for you?”
“Nope.” He bent down and rushed her frame. Before she could react, he’d lifted her up and draped her over his shoulder.
She gasped, tossed the potholders and tried to hold onto his back. “Dean!”
He smacked her ass and chuckled. His arms wrapped over her legs. One hand wedged between her thighs and slipped up along the heat of her pulsing mound. He carried her out of the kitchen and headed for the living room. An unceremonious dump onto the couch cushions had her staring up at him. His eyes lit up and he smirked. “I said I was hungry.”
~~~~~
Dean chomped into the massive takeout burger. Leaning over his coffee table, he devoured his late lunch. Sam grimaced at him from the laptop screen sharing space on the table.
“That stuff is going to kill you, Dean.”
“We’ve been through this, Sammy. If bacon’s what kills me, I win.” A dribble of secret sauce trickled down his chin and onto the food wrappers protecting the tabletop. He spoke through the chews. “So, back to the antidote…”
Sam shook his head. “Yeah. I speedy shipped the stuff to you. According to my tracking number, you should get it tonight. Just mix it according to the directions I’ll email over. Right. Now.”
Dean’s computer dinged. He slurped his soda. “Injection through the heart? Really has to be through the heart?”
“It’s like a shot of adrenaline.”
Dean frowned after another mouthful of beef and bacon.
“Julie’s still the same?”
He sighed. A couple crumbs hit the screen.
“Did you really just spit your food at me?”
Dean swallowed and used his sleeve to wipe the laptop clean. “Shut up. Yes, she’s still the same. I left Brigida at the hospital about an hour ago. No improvement, but nothing worse either. The doctor says her heartbeat gets a bit high every once in a while and there’s some spike in brain activity. She’s responding to some sort of stimulation.” He remembered the wistful smile on Julie’s face that day.
“That’s good.” Sam chuckled. “Well, maybe when she wakes up, she’ll reevaluate what she finds attractive about you in the first place and come to her senses.” Sam cleared his throat. “It was a joke, Dean.”
“Not that far off, though.”
“What do you mean?”
“Winchester curse.”
“Geez, not that again.”
“You think it’s a coincidence that this poor woman, with no previous supernatural experiences or run-ins, happens to get kidnapped by a Jinn just a couple months after meeting me?”
“Yeah, I do.”
“Activity has been sporadic at best.” Dean shook his head. “I put her in danger by breathing in her general direction.”
“Did you ever think that maybe she’s lucky?”
“Lucky?” Dean scoffed, mindful to direct his response away from Sam this time.
“She was lucky that you were around when this happened. You saved her, dude. No matter what, there was nothing intentional on your part to put her in danger.” Sam picked up his phone, blasting an alarm. “Look, I’ve got to get ready to head to class. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get the work done when the supplies make it to you. Call me if you need help with the instructions. I know reading’s not your specialty.”
“Alright, alright.” Dean threw him a sarcastic smile.
“Later.”
~~~~~
Baby’s passenger side door squeaked. Julie’s sandals met the gravel and the cool summer air tickled over her exposed arms. Her neck craned upward, staring into the midnight blue sky lit up like a Christmas tree.
Dean shut the driver’s side door in unison with Julie on the other end. She looked over and saw him gazing up as well. “Nice.” He commented.
“See? I wasn’t kidding about the view.”
“Well, it’s not quite as great as Kansas at night.” Even in the dark the night sky illuminated the lookout point, one of many along Skyline Drive. Their road trip originated in Delaware late that morning and was now winding through the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Dean wandered around Baby’s hood to stand in front of Julie. Arms wrapped around her waist.
“East coast girl, east coast views.” She looked around the field. “Weird, though. I’ve never been to this spot at night and had it all to ourselves. Not another car or person checking out the sky.”
Dean nodded. “I reserved it just for us. I know a guy.”
Julie smirked and stared at his sassy grin, inches from his delicious lips. “You didn’t even know where we were going.”
He shrugged, leaning closer. “So, family trips here every summer, huh?”
“From when I was about eight up until 15. Joey and I arguing in the back seat of Dad’s Mustang. Mom in the passenger seat, yelling at Dad every time he whacked Joey in the back of the head for being a pain in the ass. Getting a bucket of crispy, fried chicken right before we started up Skyline.”
Dean kissed her. She tasted the salt and spices. “I like that tradition.” He mumbled and smiled. “We get to make a new one.”
Julie was about to ask what he meant when he hoisted her up by her waist and sat her ass on Baby’s hood. “Whoa. Isn’t this sacrilegious?”
“Nah.” He jogged back over to the other side and hopped up, joining her. “I did this alot, on the road.” She laid back and tried to get her footing on the slippery steel, bending her knees. Baby was still nice and warm from the drive. He laid down and pulled her toward him with an arm over her shoulders, letting her lean into his side for support. She was getting used to thinking of him as her rock. “Now,” he nodded up, “That’s a view.”
She kept staring at him. “Yes, it is.”
He rubbed her shoulder and kissed her forehead. His voice turned serious. “You’ve got to come back to us, now, Jules.”
“What?”
“It’s time.” His eyes gazed into hers. “This is probably going to hurt like hell for a few seconds.” She closed her eyes, enjoying the tips of his fingers gliding along her cheek.
“Dean, I don’t under…”
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. I’ve got to.”
Something stabbed her in the heart and made her entire body seize for a second. Like a jackhammer, the pain vibrated everywhere and she ricocheted upright into a sitting position.
Her eyes jolted open and she gasped for air. Panic accompanied the pain and fear at whatever this thing was in her throat blocking her ability to breathe. Her fingers shot to her neck, coming into contact with a large tube instead of the expected skin. Investigating with touch, she realized it led up to her mouth. It was the thing lodged in her throat, along with smaller tubes in her nose. She tried to make sense of the white walls with the green horizontal stripe, the beeping, the monitors all around. And, then, she saw Dean.
Dean sprinted past the edge of her bed - the bed with rails like a crib and wires connected to various parts of her body - heading for the open doorway. “We need some help here! Now!” He bellowed.
Another rush of heat and pain knocked her onto her back. Blood pulsed wild and loud in her brain. Her eyes closed. She drifted away. Dean’s hand covered her forehead. “Hold on, sweetheart.”
~~~~~
“Kidnapped?” The question scraped out of Julie’s throat.
Dean watched her mind attempt to process the information. Tired and spent from the rude awakening hours earlier, Julie now sat upright in the hospital bed. The antidote had worked exactly as Sam said it would. Adrenaline straight to the heart. Brigida dashing out of the room with a weak bladder became Dean’s opportunity to administer his own version of health care.
He’d whispered and explained what he was about to do to an unconscious Julie. He apologized right before plunging the syringe into her chest cavity. The evidence got tossed into the hazardous waste receptacle as Julie sat straight up in bed, gasping and clawing at the intubation.
The three of them, Julie, Brigida, and Dean, now experienced a lull of medical activity and attention. Julie had gone through some more tests after waking and been wheeled away for an hour. The intubation had been removed. She had been rewired and looked less like a science experiment.
Brigida sat on Julie’s right. “No more talk about what happened. You need to try to eat something.”
Julie’s fingers ran over the bed sheets. Her brain is somewhere else.
Dean swayed from heel to toe, hands in his pockets, standing at the foot of the bed. “Want me to see if they can get you some more ice chips for that throat?”
Julie gazed up at Dean. But something was too far away and distant in her eyes for his liking. She shrugged.
“I’ll go and ask Natalie.” It was no surprise to Dean that Brigida was on a first name basis with the nurses on the floor after only a few days. She stood up and left the room, patting Dean on his elbow when she strolled past.
“Where did you find me?” Julie shifted in the bed and spoke again when they were alone. She winced and rested a hand on her chest. Right where I basically stabbed her.
“Brigida’s right, Julie. You probably don’t need to know all the details right…”
“Where?” She squeaked out the one word.
He sighed. “Abandoned warehouse.”
Her fingers pulled at the band at the base of her hairline and tugged the ponytail free. She scratched her scalp and fussed with her waves. “I was going to go to the gym for a quick workout that morning.” The slumped posture stiffened with a groan. An attempt was made to fix her hair, combing it back with shaking fingers. She relented and leaned back. Her eyes dropped to her lap as she continued. “I-I had talked to mom… before I left the house, I saw her at the edge of the driveway, walking up. I shouldn’t have offered to drive her to the shopping center. But, I was already going there, going to the gym...”
“Hey.” Dean hurried to her side. Hands gripped the bed rails. “Don’t go blaming yourself for anything that happened.” He bent down, tried to get his face in her line of sight. A shy flutter of lids hesitated, but her eyes eventually stared back. “None of this is your fault, Jules.”
Glazed eyes blinked away tears forming as Julie spoke. “Thank you…” her breath hitched, “for finding me.”
Dean’s hardened heart cracked at the lost and vulnerable quality in Julie’s voice. He offered an upturned palm. Her cold fingers crept into its hold. He squeezed, intent on warming her. “Kind of selfish on my part. We still have to finish that date, remember?”
The first smile he’d seen on her face in what felt like forever lined her lips. “Right now?”
He laughed. “I’ll give you some time to get right.”
“What’s wrong with how I look?” She rasped out a laugh. “How could you not want this?”
“Who says I don’t?” He shook his head in appreciation. “And, that six pack of cigs a day voice is hella sexy.” Dean turned serious. “When I mean get right…”
She nodded. “I know.”
“However long it takes.” He swallowed. “Can’t get rid of me that easy.”
Her lip twitched. “Promise?”
He smiled and squeezed her hand a little harder. “Promise.”

Dead Doll's Eyes: Bruce Campbell Talks New Evil Dead and Calls Out Martin Scorsese’s Bulls—t.
You can choose to read the interview below or click the link above to listen to the ten minute recorded version.
Bruce Campbell burrowed his way into our hearts as a dashing B-movie icon with roles in a litany of cult classics, from Evil Dead to Bubba Ho-Tep.
After returning to his roots to play Ash Williams for three seasons of delightfully gratuitous gore in Ash vs Evil Dead, Campbell put away his chainsaw for good when Starz cancelled the series in 2018. However, much to fans’ delight, Evil Dead trilogy director and Ash vs Evil Dead producer Sam Raimi recently announced a forthcoming entry to the franchise with Campbell attached as a producer. Even better: although Ash won’t return to fight Deadites in live action, Campbell will lend his voice to an upcoming Evil Dead video game.
To accompany the rerelease of his memoir Hail to the Chin: Further Confessions of a B Movie Actor — now with an added “Requiem for Ash” chapter — Campbell is dropping by the Alamo City next week for a screening of Army of Darkness and audience Q&A. He promises it’ll be a good time — “There’s lots of stories about the making of that ridiculous movie.”
We caught up with Campbell over the phone, and he shared his thoughts on retiring Ash, teased some upcoming projects and even offered a few choice words for Martin Scorsese.
After Ash vs Evil Dead was cancelled you decided to hang up the character and retire him.
I did, didn’t I?
Unlike other actors who retire their characters, it’s not so much that you’re sick of Ash Williams, but that the demands of filming such a special effects-heavy series led you to reach something you’ve called “The Latex Point.” Could you expand on the on-set demands of Ash vs Evil Dead and why they’re so taxing?
Well, my wife sort of put a finger on it — as she so often does. She came into the trailer one day the last season of shooting, and I’m sitting there miserable because I had to put down plastic sheeting everywhere I went. I’d stick to everything because I was always covered with blood.
She goes, “I know what your problem is — you got Poopy Diaper Syndrome.”
I’m like, “What’re you talking about?”
“You’re like a 3-year-old or a 2-year-old sitting in a poopy diaper, and you can’t get out of your poopy diaper. No one will help you change your poopy diaper.”
So really, it’s that. It’s a series of lying face down in cellars. And it occurred to me multiple times. I’d be lying there literally face down, waiting for a shot, covered in blood in a dark cellar on the dirt, and I’m like, “Is this where I belong?” And the answer was “yes” for a long time, but it’s not a permanent place where you wanna be. Not as a 60-year-old man.
I wanted to avoid that Star Wars crap, where they’re holding these actors up with baling wire and cotton balls, you know what I mean? Feeding them their lines of dialogue through earbuds. I couldn’t do that. I could still pull the character off, so I wanted to finish while I could still do it.
And not have it kind of become…
Uh, sad. We don’t want sadness.
But you’re not leaving Evil Dead. You’re attached as a producer to a new movie, and it’s going to bring new blood into the franchise, including a director hand-picked by Sam Raimi. How does it feel to be able to step back, but still help usher in this new era?
Well, fantastic. Because, look, we can work with these directors. We can support them in the ways that we’ve always wanted to be supported. We can punish them in the ways that we should have been punished. We can hire actors that are good and well behaved, because I know what to look for. And when we get an actor, we can tell them how to best use their time and not party. We’ve learned a lot over the years, so we can share and torment these directors into making a good movie. There’s definitely a place for us. We’ll be there behind the scenes pulling the strings on these little monkeys.
How does it compare so far to the development process for Fede Álvarez’s 2013 Evil Dead? Or is it too early to say?
It’s too early, and every director’s different. Fede was very specific. I’d never worked with Fede, so I wanted to make sure he could work with actors. I sat in for only one day during auditions, and I could see how he would see a take, work with the actors, and the second take was better. After I saw two or three of those, I was like, OK — I’m outta here. This guy knows how to get a better take out of an actor. Done. That’s a huge accomplishment. And he was already very astute with special effects.
What you have to do is find out what the director’s strength is and encourage that, and find out what their weaknesses are and either fix that or discourage that. Some directors are great with actors but they suck at special effects, some are great at special effects but they don’t know how to talk to actors. It’s a really delicate dance. The modern movie is very delicate, because the modern movie has way more special effects now.
In Captain Marvel, even the cat was CGI most of the time he was onscreen.
Lemme tell ya, I’m gonna make a bold statement here.
The Irishman has more digital effects than the most recent Marvel movie, but you just don’t notice. Which why I call B.S. on Marty Scorsese calling out the Marvel movies. It’s like, bullshit! You just used more digital effects than a Marvel movie, and you’re telling me that’s cinema but the other one isn’t?
But the point is, I don’t buy it. I mean, I can’t wait to watch that movie, because I’m gonna be driven insane by Robert DeNiro at 42, Robert DeNiro at 47, Robert DeNiro at 31. It’s just gonna drive me insane, because I’m gonna look at it and I’m gonna be looking at dead doll’s eyes and, you know, they’re gonna do a good job, but they’re all gonna look like sharks.
Now that you’re no longer beholden to the intense schedule of TV production, are there any projects that you’re able to look at that weren’t an option before?
Well, one of two things can happen. I finally told my agent, “OK,” because I had to pass on some things in the last couple years that were decent projects, because I had a bunch of other random stuff going. If you open up your schedule, you can allow for stuff like that. All of 2020 is currently completely open. I have zero bookings for the first time in probably 15 years. I like booking my year — I like knowing what’s going on — but, in this case I’m gonna leave work open to fall off the truck from my agency.
But I also have a TV project that I’m pushing and a feature film project. I will go back under the TV knife under the right conditions, and I have a project that I would do that for. “Under the knife” meaning to sign a contract.
The beauty of it is with these limited series now, no one has to commit to shit these days. One season, two seasons, three seasons, you know. So, we’ll see what happens. I just wrote a feature film — a political satire — and I wanna make that next, so I’m in the process of shopping it. I’m hat in hand right now.
You’ve been in the director’s chair, both for Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess as well as your horror comedy My Name is Bruce. Would you be interested in directing again, possibly for the movie you just wrote?
All the projects that I’m currently gonna be involved with now, moving forward, I’ll be directing in some way. Raising money for low budget movies — I have as much experience as anybody now, so there’s no reason to look for anybody else. I’ll just direct myself.
It’s time for the new sheriff to come into town.
Another thing that makes Evil Dead so compelling is the long-running team behind it. Even if it’s not Evil Dead, would you be down to act in future projects with Sam and Ted Raimi, or your Ash vs Evil Dead costars?
Well, I would be happy to work with any of them again, but I just can’t say. Sam, who knows? Sam’s off making these 10-minute shorts. I forget the name of the company, but everyone’s making shorts now, so go figure.
Kind of like YouTube — getting on that train?
Yeah, I don’t know. It’s all new to me. I’m sticking with the true-blue formats for now.
If you had the opportunity to reprise any other characters that you’ve played previously, like fan favorite Brisco County, Jr., would you be interested? Or do you want to focus on all new material and characters?
New stuff is always my favorite, but I would definitely do Brisco Rides Again, and I would definitely do more Burn Notice. We’re sort of circling the building now with Burn Notice. Maybe it’s time to save the world again. The world needs us.
You recently updated your memoir Hail to the Chin with a new “Requiem for Ash,” and are making appearances tied to the book’s rerelease. How do you integrate tours and press appearances without blowing out your schedule, and how do they differ from press junkets you do for film and TV?
The beauty of working with a company is when it’s time to do press, they’ve really got it down. I saved a bunch of my itineraries from Ash vs Evil Dead just because of how ridiculous they were, so I can look back and show my grandchildren “this was a press day in New York City.” So, you really got the support. The only difference is when you do low budget stuff, or even books, you’re kind of on your own, and it’s way more down-home. It’s Twitter, it’s Facebook, it’s Facebook ads or whatever. It’s no national TV — nothin’. It’s a whole different ball game.
You know, I’m a one-man band. I’ll miss a few interviews because I forgot or didn’t put it in my schedule or whatever. Someone’ll call, I’ll go, “What do you want?” They’re like, “We have a phoner.” I go, “Really? Ok, great.” This one I happened to remember. We do what we can.
A Conversation with Bruce Campbell and Screening of Army of Darkness: $29.50-$125, 8 p.m. Friday, October 25, Aztec Theatre, 104 N. St. Mary’s St., (210) 812-4355, theaztectheatre.com.

Episode #139
WHAT THIS?
Tumblr media
Marge Be Not Proud Season 7 - Episode 11 | December 17, 1995 Christmas comes to The Simpsons yet again! And on the anniversary of The Simpsons FIRST Christmas, even! What a treat! This is the one where Bart steals a video game and then Marge no longer sees him as her special little guy. She starts saying “(r-slur) little guy” instead :( Okay so this episode is the subject of a chapter of an essay by Charlie Sweatpants called “Zombie Simpsons”. Uh, here’s a link to that chapter if you don’t feel like reading the entire thing. It’s worth reading, but if you don’t it basically it says this episode indulges in too many conventional television cliches. Which, I suppose it does. But then the episode is described as being bogged down by the emotional aspect of the story, which is a criticism I bought for a long time after reading it. Also, to support this theory, I remember the promotional tv spots for this episode and they absolutely played up the “very special”-ness of the episode, with Bart’s line about vowing to prove himself despite being a “black sheep” being the focal point. But I watched it with my very smart, skeptical eyes (I was also wearing a CYNICAL BASTARD t-shirt and holding a mug where the 1950s guy is like “HOW ABOUT A MUG OF SHUT THE FUCK UP”), and I gotta say the emotion of this show worked for me this time around. I love this episode! But, I guess I still agree with some of the critiques, it takes a commonly-told story and rather than supply a SImpsons twist it merely applies Simpsons window-dressing. But it’s still pretty good. A little lackluster compared to the great episodes of this era, but at this point in the series I think we can let the Simpsons slip-up and be merely good once in a while. THE B-SODE:
Tumblr media
The Spirit of Christmas Short Film | December 25, 1995 So if this “Marge Be Not Proud” is a symbol of The Simpsons downfall, here is the symbol of South Park’s... upfall. Wait, that’s terrible. Ugh.. okay, this is just another Christmas cartoon from 1995, because the Critic never did a Haunuka special where Marty steals the afikomen and mopes around feeling bad about it. I used to sell VHS tapes of this at my high school. It had this, the full-length South Park pilot and a cam-recording of the South Park movie, which wasn’t on video yet at the time. Watching this on the internet and subsequently trading for a VHS copy of it was the first time I got to hear “The South Park Kids” using heavy-duty swears. Now I think every episode from season 2 on is available in a cuss-heavy format. I remember finding out the scene in the pilot, the part where Stan is cussing out the aliens and it’s just a big long string of bleeps, was actually meant to be real swears and being hella disappointed. Like, it’s way funnier when Kyle turns to Wendy and goes “hey Wendy, what’s a (Bleep)?” than if it were just some normal swear. It would have just come off as lame and try-hardy if Stan was just shoehorning a bunch of gay sex slurs at them for no reason other than to be vulgar/shocking. I’m assuming that most of what he was saying was homophobic. It was the mid-90s, after all.

Just Give Me a Reason: Pt 1
Here’s the first part of a new Yoongi series I plan to work on for the rest of the year. It’s a slow burn and it’s all written from my oc’s pov. I hope you like it and stick around to find out how this story ends.
So yeah, get ready. We’re going Marty.
Tumblr media
July 2014
L.A.
After spending the last 8 months on the road I was finally back home, the world tour to promote my last album broke all kind of records; it was a hit, #1 everything, professionally it was a good year.
At this point I was used to having my face plastered everywhere, to everyone knowing my name.
With becoming a huge star came the fame, the money, recognition and endless possibilities for my career. A very strong fan base that did nothing but shower me with love and support every single day, I’m aware I live a very blessed life, I don’t take it for granted.
But for all the good things I had to pay a price. To embrace the ugly side of stardom. The hate, the stalking, the public scrutiny, the lack of privacy.
“Y/N fiancé caught cheating on her with mysterious woman while she’s away on tour just a month after engagement announcement”
It’s like he wanted to get caught. You don’t just take your side piece to The Nice Guy and hope not to get photographed by the dozen paparazzi waiting outside. It was a matter of minutes until it was all over the internet.
I’ve been cheated on before, but this time it was done very publicly and very shamelessly.
Oh boy, ain’t it fun having to answer that phone call from your publicist asking if you want to release a statement on how your man couldn’t keep it in his pants and now you’re single. Yeah, good times.
And then I had to delete 34 pictures of us on Instagram that sure seemed like 1000 since now they were only a painful reminder of what no longer was. Of what it never was. More than one year of my life was a complete lie, he played me and I let it happen. I gave him my heart and turns out all he cared about was how much money he could get from being with me. It made sense that he didn’t care about being caught cheating after scoring 3 big deals with brands I got him in contact with.
Tired of being hurt I promised myself I would not even consider dating for a very long time, I learned my lesson, I’d be damned if I ever gave my heart to another guy ever again. I wasn’t even sure I had one anymore. Right now it felt broken beyond repair.
I woke up relatively early, I rolled on my back and stare at the ceiling going through the downfall of my last relationship once again for the 50th time this week.
I force myself to get up and get ready. One day at a time, that’s my new mantra, that’s how I’m surviving this hell.
Today I had plans to meet hip hop legend Warren G. He had been friends with my manager for several years so the label always made sure to get him VIP tickets for his daughter who was a huge fan whenever he requested them.
So last week, the day of the last concert here in L.A. I was talking to him backstage after taking pictures with him and his younger daughter and he told me about this asian boy band he was working with. Some sort of reality show for what I heard.
“There’s so many of them. All talented and very young, they seem genuinely excited to be here in L.A.”
He also mentioned he was shooting their music video and how he wanted them to get girls to be part of it. To give it a more hip hop feel, but he was a bit worried because on top of not being fluent in English they were very shy.
He then invited me to the shooting to check ‘em out “If the girls don’t show up at least you could help me out and invite some of your friends, we really need girls for this video”
He chuckled loudly and after I agreed to it we said our goodbyes and I continued to meet people backstage, putting on my best fake smile, I continued to pretend I wasn’t dying on the inside. The show must go on y/n.
After making a quick stop at Starbucks to get everyone coffee and other drinks my driver pulled up at the mansion where part of the shooting would take place.
I wanted to have a nice gesture with the boys and mostly their entourage since I didn’t know if they would find it rude that I was dropping by without their actual invitation, I didn’t even know if Warren had told them I was coming.
There were lots of people there, all part of their staff I assume. Cameramen recording everything, a couple women holding hand fans were standing next to the makeup station. Several men running around taking care of this and that, some of them glued to their phones talking in Japanese? I don’t know, but some of them looked at me funny, not knowing who I was, I wasn’t offended by it at all but it was intimidating. Luckily the guy at the door recognized me and was escorting me to where Warren was.
All the staff bowed politely as we were passing by and I noticed the women whispering and giggling to each other after I waved at them and said hello in a little voice that sounded nothing like me.
“Well look who’s here boys, do you know y/n y/l/n?” I heard Warren say as I was making my way outside to the pool area where several young boys and even more staff were.
A string of “oh”, “oh my god” and more astonished expressions in their language followed, some of them covered their blushing faces and excited grins. It was cute, it made me remember when I was coming up and was left strarstruck more than once meeting famous celebrities for the very first time.
“Hi everyone, I’m y/n. Sorry for crashing your shooting but this gentleman right there invited me over and I couldn’t say no.” I said bashfully still a bit shy about the situation.
“This is, oh my god, I can’t believe this. You are y/n, a very famous star and you came to watch us shoot our video. Thank you very much” The tallest kid with blonde hair said, and after quickly whispering something to the rest of the boys they all bowed at the same time.
“Dul, set. Annyeong Haseyo Bangtan Sonyeondan imnida!”
The same boy introduced himself as Rap Monster, later I found out his real name was Namjoon. He was the only one fluent in English as far as I could tell; I was also informed he was the leader of their group and a rapper.
The kid next to him looked very young, not older than 14, I barely heard his name because he spoke to me while looking at his feet the entire time. Jungkook, the youngest one, he was actually 17 and I was dumbfounded to find out they were all actually a lot older than what I thought they were. Their small frames, innocent eyes, baby faces and shy demeanor made them look way younger.
I tried memorizing their names and faces but it was proving to be a bit tricky to tell them apart for the first half hour.
So Jimin was the one the one with the flirty eyes wearing a snapback and the muscle shirt. V, real name Taehyung I could immediately tell apart from the others, he reminded me of my cousin with those innocent curious eyes.
Jin was the older one, serious, extremely polite, he was the one wearing a plaid red shirt and had reddish hair. Jungkook was the baby of the group and he looked like he wanted to run and hide everytime he saw me, very shy kid. He was the only one wearing a jacket wrapped around his waist.
Namjoon was the only one who spoke English, no brainer there. J-Hope, real name Hoseok had the bubbliest personality, he was the kind of person that makes everyone around them smile. A very special aura, I could tell he was born to be a star the minute I saw him.
Suga, real name Yoongi, was wearing a long sleeved shirt, the crispy white of the clothing made him stand out and I thought his stage name was cute, I could also tell him apart with ease from the start.
Their staff urged them to sing for me and it was amazing. I was blown away when I watched some of their performances on youtube while they were shooting a scene where Jimin seemed to want to punch Namjoon in the face after he stole his thunder and started getting closer to the video girl. It was hilarious to watch.
This group was no joke, their performances were crazy. They could sing and dance without missing a beat. Warren G wasn’t joking when he said I’d like to meet them, I’m a sucker for new talent and everyone knows that.
“Is this your first time in L.A.? How are you liking it so far?” I asked Suga who was standing a couple feet away from me with V and one of member of their staff.
“uhmmm… yes, first time in L.A., We love it.” I could tell they were very shy and self conscious about their English, I tried not to make too many complicated questions or talk too fast so they could understand what I was saying, the translator was there as well so the conversation flowed better than I hoped so. V was the more talkative one, teaching me some Korean words and asking for me to teach them some English phrases.
Suga was just standing there, nodding sometimes but not saying much, I could tell he was actively listening though. He was just more reserved I guess.
They only excused themselves when they were called for their shot. After talking to the other guys in between their takes I decided it was time to go, I didn’t want to overstay my welcome.
“Keep working hard guys, I know with your talent you’ll go far. And consider me another one of your fans from now on. I hope I can catch one of your concerts when I visit Korea in the future”
Namjoon did most of the talking, thanking me for the kind words and for coming over to meet them.
“Noona you don’t have, but we’re having a concert here in L.A. next week if you want to come see us, we’d love to have you there right guys?” They all nodded enthusiastically and I told them I would definitely come to support them.
After I gave one of his managers my assistant’s number so he could send her all the information I said my goodbyes and left, unknowingly setting in motion a series of events that would change my life forever.

10. Perché mi hai fatto una cosa del genere?
My thoughts on this episode were all over the place, I can’t even find main themes to put in this little intro, so, fuck it! Get ready for me getting angry at least a couple of times because of men, as I’m wont to do, and have a look at the results of the Bechdel test for the episode at the end!
in the previous episode, I forgot to call attention to Eva taking charge of the situation when Alice goes after Laura: that’s the boss!Eva from Silvia’s party in S2, the same person we haven’t seen in a month, since the day Edoardo showed up at her house early for his date with Silvia; and here we see a version of her again, she’s a girl with a purpose and since Marti doesn’t answer her she’s gonna hunt him down
but why is Marti online?
ok so the day Marti’s dad leaves him and his mom is May 24th or 25th; the first night of proper, restful sleep we’re sure Marti gets is November 1st; five months and change of insomnia, caring for his depressed mom and bottling things up in general 💔
Gio is in red! again!
the stilted conversation between Eva and Gio, the pauses, it hurts to watch
especially because on top of the general awkwardness of being not-quite-exes and not on the best of terms (it’s quite possible this is the first time they’ve talked since ep. 8); the fact that we know Eva knows makes things even more painful to watch
and God, but Gio is honestly so caring: even here, while they’re in this weird limbo between being people with a friend in common, mostly-exes and fighting, he still asks Eva how she’s feeling, how things are with her and empathizes with her
and after Eva asks Gio to say hi to Marti for her, there’s a minute where she’s mulling, she’s about to say something and I’m dead with wanting to know what: is it something about them? Is it a “I’m working on what you told me, you were right”? Is it about Marti interfering with them and Alice? Or, even more painful, does she want to say something, but can’t find anything to say to Gio???
the most painful goodbye, aborted tries for a hug, then an embarrassed kiss on the cheek and Gio turning his back on Eva to go to Marti
oh, God. Gio turns his back on Eva to go to Marti.
did the school only let them use one bathroom for shooting?? or was it LudoBesse’s favorite, the only one that had the Light™? This is not only the same bathroom where Eva dragged Laura last episode, but the one in which Marti and Nico will have their secret rendezvous in 5.4 Pausa and where Marti will tell i Contrabbandieri about Milan in 9.3 Namacissi
oh, good, Silvia is on speaking terms with Eva again!
and Eva cried because of Silvia’s words, for fuck’s sake, but here she tells her they were not a big deal and I’m half thankful because look at how bad poor Silvia feels, you see it in her face; but I’m also half mad cause that wasn’t okay
and here we go! Silvia dropping the mask and admitting that for as much as she tries to live her fantasy of being well liked and dating Edo like Valentina in RPDR All Stars, she can’t delude herself enough to actually believe it: her insecurity runs so deep it makes my chest hurt
“It always ends with everyone hating me. I’m used to it.” WHO TOLD HER THEY HATED HER AND SHE WAS GOING TO BE HATED Francesca Mirabella, I’m looking at you, it might not have been you but you probably had something to do with it, she’s your sister ffs, why don’t you try to help her and lift her up??
Eva tries, she tries hard, but there’s only so much she can do, in part because she doesn’t know how, in part because it’s pretty late, in part because Silvia is spiraling and she won’t listen to her anyways
and Eva and Gio are alone again, good job universe: keep shoving them together and they’ll have to start talking again, now that things have died down and they’re calmer
Gio is in Middle earth: reddish-brown t-shirt, blue shirt on top, not quite of red zone but slowly going back to a more normal blue
Eva really really doesn’t want to fail: I wish we’d seen a glimpse of her family again, if she’s apologized to her mom and has explained and not failing any subjects is a way to prove her good will; if it is a way to apologize, to make up for the near-suspension and try and break down the barrier between them so she can talk and explain and maybe even ask for advice
safe subjects, common ground between Gio and Eva: the exam, Marti, their next class (still interspersed with those awkward silences)
things can’t keep going like that, they’ve been walking on eggshells around one another, they’re bound to break one at some point
except they don’t get to because Canegallo does it for them
and again, allow me to repeat how much of an asshole I think he is: he was walking by them, sure, but he simply had to keep his mouth shut and ignore them for things not to go south, instead he purposefully stirs shit; had it been Gio by himself would he have said anything? I don’t think so, he’s just trying to show Eva he’s over her, but catch her attention at the same time and pay her back for the story getting out by putting her in a difficult position with Gio; and he literally does it just for shits and giggles, since he surely never gave enough fucks about Alice to be upset now that she’s broken up with him, so even “revenge” is just a facade for the desire to cause drama
Gio is channeling his inner Elia and Eva is immediately on high alert, even before he shoves Federico
and everything was going decently, if not well, then motherfucking Canegallo had to open his whore mouth and also throw Gio on the floor and look, look at the look Giovanni gives Eva when she tries to calm him down, just before walking away from her: that look is saying it again “How could you kiss him? How can you like him and people like him and go out with them and kiss any of them?” (hard same tbh, Eva, how?)
so things went to shit again
oh look, it’s Alice, again… it’s like Eva’s a flame and they’re all like moths, jeez
at least Alice has finally broken things off with Canegallo for real and I’d like to thank not only God but also Jesus
and she’s proudly announcing she’s the one who dumped his sorry ass and that’s the best part for me, such a far call from last episode’s “I can’t dump him”
I have so many problems with the “alcoholic feminist night” for single girls who are angry with men Alice’s planning and with Eva’s interpretation of it as a lesbian thing and with them agreeing that homosexuality might prove to be a solution like OH. MY. GOD
so few words, so many wrong messages. These girls, honestly. Eleonora, magically appear and slap some sense into them please
aaaaaand the actual “girls only” night begins with a shot where there are five guys or so…so much for coherence
at least the girls seem to be having fun
Eleonora’s “Okay” is soooo unconvincing, I mean, yeah, you’re outvoted,ok, but at least take the defeat with some attempt at grace; especially given that when they’re recording the video she abandons all pretenses of still holding a grudge and smiles, jokes and happily invites Silvia with all the others
so, not only there are those boys from the first shot at the party, but also Marti Elia and Peccio are there. Again: wasn’t this GIRLS ONLY PARTY?
unless they’re following the girls to find out where they’re meeting, watching from afar like lurkers and waiting for their chance to slip in when the girls get drunker. Wouldn’t put it past them
some casual, subtle racism from Marti and Elia
ok so Peccio’s actual surname is Pecci, we’re one step closer to figuring out his name, and then he’ll officially have one before Mrs Rametta who’s 1543 times more important in the economy of the series LUDOBESSE GIVE MARTI’S MOM A NAME YOU COWARD
Marti’s boob comment. I just. Honey, why? Why make it somewhat sexual, why make Eva’s happiness about her appearance, specifically to an element of her appearance that is heavily objectified and sexualized by men and at the same time imply that it is frivolous to care about one’s appearance? (I have strong feelings about breasts and men’s/society’s attention to them)
so Marti’s reaction is: incredulous half-smile, uncomfortable wiggle, face going sad/disappointed purportedly because Gio didn’t tell him, fake ass happy comments
“I was happy to do it, I care about you two” yeah, Marti, how about we go once more and you at least try to put some feeling and conviction in it?
and in the most powerful power move Eva just laid down all her cards at once, then grabbed the table and fucking flipped it YAAASSS QUEEN
“Cause, you know, my relationship starts going to shit from that moment” EHM. Eva. Are you only lying to Martino to make him feel guiltier or are you lying to yourself as well?
MARTINOH GUARDAMI MARTINOH (I’ve been waiting ten episodes for this blessed moment of poetic cinema)
“C’mon Eva, you know fully well that I like you” and let me turn my question to you, Marti babe: are you only lying to get a believable alibi or are you lying to yourself as well?
and really, I want to know what’s in Marti’s head right now! He obviously had this excuse prepared so he either really thinks he really likes Eva and is completely unaware of his crush on Gio still, or he spent a long time trying to come up with a believable lie after he impulsively told Alice everything (I refuse to think he actually honestly premeditated it); or is he trying to convince himself he did it for Eva because he’s somewhat aware of his feeling for Gio but vehemently doesn’t want to accept them? As I type, I realize the third option is the most likely. Well, that throws me a bit, I’d always thought by this point Marti knew, I mean, the cabin
so that reframes the whole summer. It was the summer of acceptance for Marti. He makes peace with being gay, since he’s not fighting it still when he meets Nico, he accepts he likes Gio but nothing will ever come out of it, since in 1.2 Svegli he’s aware of his feelings, he accepts his dad won’t be coming back and he’s gonna have to care for his mom. What a summer.
and of course he did hurt when Eva came to him about Gio, of course he did, poor baby
Marti himself brings up the cabin, but really, even trying, in that conversation I can’t hear a lick of interest for Eva, and she probably didn’t either; how deeply in denial are you Marti?
Eva’s incredulity is heartbreaking, all her rage just goes right out of her
oooh, I hope I’m right about Marti not knowing his own feelings yet. Cause if Marti knows he’s into Gio and thinks of telling Eva he’s into here only as an excuse, it makes me so fucking angry? I just realized how fucking manipulative a move it is, not only because he tries to play into her feeling, but also just because it’s just such a sheerly ballsy move, one that yanks off the earth right under Eva’s feet and it is designed specifically so she’s gonna be shocked into letting go of her rightful anger and that’s such a fucking asshole move, I can’t even. Fuck.
so yeah, better convince myself Marti really believe he was into Eva at that point, even if it tilts my whole worldview for this show sideways
but Eva is so powerful walking away like that, despite the shock, despite asking for help to get down from the van, she radiates badassery and anger. And I thank God for that. If she’d been meek because she’s confused, if she hadn’t demanded to be helped like that it would have been so dismissive of her I would have probably cried actual tears
that poor girl, the friend-of-Alice’s whose party this was supposed to be. She doesn’t know these girls at all and now one of their friends got there blackout drunk and collapsed and her birthday celebration risks being shut down because they need to get medical help and that’s gonna bring a lot of questions about underage drinking, plus she’s worried, just out of basic decency and empathy, I mean, she might have alcohol poisoning or go into ethylic coma or die
and so we get to the parallel to catwalk in ep. 4 when the girls were going to Edoardo’s/Chicco Rodi’s (never quite figured that one out, I guess we’ll see next season)
but really, is that the best way to carry Silvia they could think of? Sana only holding her hand, while Eva (second shortest) carries the heaviest part of Silvia’s body her middle, by herself?
thank God for the Eleonora Savas and the Sana Allaguis of the world, ready to take charge of bad situations they’re in, to call for help even if others won’t admit to needing it and to get their hands dirty; honestly, boos to the Federicas of the world cause who cares about being grounded when there’s someone who’s fucking unconscious?
poor Sana, being looked at like she’s an alien just because she actually has hair like any normal human being (jk, it actually is a super sweet moment of girls bonding and supporting and lifting each other up)
yes to cuddly puppy piles in beds
aaaaand there goes the cliffhanger
I’d be super curious to know if for people who’d never seen any Skam before, Silvia being pregnant was actually believable? There was the unprotected sex, the mood swings, the puking... I felt it was pretty believable in Skam og when I watched it, but of course I having seen the og I’ve been spoiled how this ends, so I can’t gauge how convincing Skam Italia was (I feel like it wasn’t as convincing tbh but it might just be me knowing the truth, so) 🤷‍♀️
Bechdel test: this episode passes the test, because of the conversation around Silvia at Alice’s party. I think this might actually be the only conversation that happens fully on screen and is entirely devoid of any mention of any male character. In the conversation that have made other episodes pass the Bechdel test, there’s usually either some subtext, or a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it mention, or it’s a conversation that happens while we fade into a scene so we only hear the very last part of it, or the conversation veers into boy territory after a few lines. This is a welcome change.
This post is part of my complete series of meta about Skam Italia season 1.  If you’d like to read more of my thoughts about the other episodes, you can find the mastepost linked in the top bar on my blog under SKAMIT: EVA. Cheers!

First Draft Series: Fake and Peachy
I stare directly at the seal behind the podium. The bird and a few well intended words, and apparently the design carries the power to destroy our world. The bleak colours and circular intentions cause me to cringe. I don’t want that stamp of approval, I think. What an ugly thing to carry with pride. My note pad slips awkwardly down my leg. The pages flap quietly against the carpet. ‘Gosh I know what you mean,’ Amber says next to me, she pulls on her jacket to straighten her suit. ‘We’ve been sitting here for hours.’ ‘I know. Good thing we’re being paid to sit,’ I say as I pick up the pad and place it firmly on my pant leg with a pen and voice recorder on top. ‘You’d think that they’d know what they’re going to say when they call all of us together.’ ‘It’s always the same here. Ever since there was the change in ruling parties,’ Marty adds from my other side. ‘I have three other stories on the go but because I’m already here I’ve been told I have to sit and suck up whatever they decide to spill at us.’ He scratches his bolding head. I glare at his yellowing teeth as he taps them with the end of his pen. God I hope I don’t turn out like that after thirty years, my internal monologue takes over. Around the room restless feet and numbing arses shuffle uncomfortably. Several younger reporters tap furiously on their tablets, feeding every detail of their lives into the online world. I’m glad I’m too old to join them, I think, knowing that my once a day tweet is enough to keep me relevant in this world. My breaking story overloaded with stock footage and pre-recorded quotes would fulfil my requirements as the official political reporter. At the front of the room my colleague, Travis, sits. His seniority distinguished by the front row ticket and the stench of cigars that wafts off him just after every time he secures an exclusive. ‘Sorry to keep you waiting,’ Kevin announces as he walks up to the podium. He plonks his folder of scripts onto the wood and shuffles up to the microphone. His back arches as if were the true person in charge. His chest puffs proudly but we snicker. He’s barely in charge in this room. It should be his. ‘I have been speaking to the President and he has come to a final decision. We will be declare Chad Richardson our selection for the vacant seat in the Supreme Court. He has three decades of experience in the justice system.’ The room groans. The name Richardson provides nothing more than a resignation to the fact that a few million exchange hands in the back room. ‘He will no doubt uphold the Constitution to his full potential and maintain the conservative foundations of our great nation. I will now open it up to questions.’ Hands around the room snap skyward, demanding they be selected for the first question that we already know will go to the friendlies at the front. ‘Travis,’ Kevin points to the young reporter directly in front of him. Travis shuffles excitedly, his hand slipping as he tenses ready to read off the prompt he has on his pad. ‘We all know Chad Richardson’s strong record on drug crimes and the deportation of illegal aliens but what else will he be bringing to the role of justice?’ ‘I’m glad you asked that question,’ Kevin rearranges his papers to the correct notes. ‘He also has a strong record on the rights of the unborn in our nation. Every life is precious, right from conception.’ ‘What about sperm? He legislated against masturbation!’ Marty shouts across the room, securing his place further back in the press room at the next conference. His toes tap on the floor impatiently. ‘He believes all lives matter,’ Kevin answers calmly. ‘What about the right to jerk off in the privacy of your own home?’ Marty shouts back, determined to seal his fate. His pen slips on his pad, the line of ink running deep, the pressure eager to rip through the now useless page of work. ‘I think the press would be above that sort of language,’ Kevin states. Smugness sits comfortably on his cheeks. The onlooking reporters chuckle and whispers amongst their peers. He holds a commanding hand up demanding silence. His attempt of control fails. The hissing in the room continues unobstructed. ‘We’ve known about this appointment for hours now,’ Amber fires up, standing to bring focus of the room to her broad stance and intriguing glare. ‘What is the President hiding this time? Why were we originally called here?’ ‘I’m afraid that’s a matter of national security.’ Kevin reaches for his water. His lips fumble on the edge of the glass. A single bead of sweat poises on the top of his crinkled forehead ready to trickle the moment before he breaks. ‘God, how did he ever get this job?’ I mutter to Marty. ‘I mean it took three questions and he’s already shaking.’ ‘I heard no one else wanted the job. Who would?’ Marty snickers as he turns the page on his pad to start again. He leans back, a pleasant smirk rising on his face as he watches Amber take the lead on grilling. ‘We’re going to be given seats in the foyer at this rate,’ I laugh. ‘National security but you called the press for announcement on the Supreme Court?’ Amber continues her grilling. ‘Hardly believable.’ ‘It is a very serious national issue,’ Kevin struggles through. ‘We thought we could announce it but we were instructed not yet.’ ‘Not yet? You could have sent out a press release. Why are we really here?’ The room falls silent as Amber inhales, her eyes sparkle with knowledge and her finger poise ready to take any whispered word as a note. In her top pocket her phone sticks out, recording away. I hope I didn’t say anything inappropriate, I think. ‘My sources tell me that there was a major incident on the grounds today. What happened?’ Amber pauses, her pen pointing at Kevin to answer. ‘There’s nothing to report there,’ Kevin mumbles down to his notes. ‘I’m sure it’s all fake anyway. Going by your paper I’m know there’s a lot we can’t trust from your sources.’ Kevin chuckles loudly, his eyes searching for a companion in the room. ‘A major incident on our national soil is a big issue. We need to know what has happened,’ Amber pounces. Kevin drags his feet, the begging in his bouncing knees edging him to flee from the lights and cameras. ‘As I said there’s nothing to report here,’ he tries. My chest rises, bored with waiting and knowing we have a good shot coming up.’ ‘Who did the President kill?’ I demand, confidence peeking as I stand ready to continue questioning. The drop of sweat unleashes on Kevin. It slithers down his face, coursing through every engrained moment of stress down his skin. ‘This press conference his over,’ Kevin chokes into the microphone before stumbling from the room, his assistance in rushed tow. ‘Well, I think we now know what happened today,’ I say smugly. ‘Yep,’ Amber whispers. ‘This write up is going to get me on all the front pages.’ ‘Have fun,’ I say. ‘I will. See you at the impeachment hearings.’

More Returns
Here's a superb podcast on Peaks. May 30 is the most recent episode. A great listen. Counter Esperanto Podcast: Tangents About Twin Peaks: 10th Secret: The Return

So my Diane prediction was on the fucking money.
I got another theory I'm working on.
Who's the mysterious billionaire? I heard some people say it may be Audrey Horne. I heard some people say it is Jack (John Justice Wheeler). I heard some people say it is Phillip Jeffries or Evil Cooper.
Put on your tinfoil hat for this one. The Billionaire is Leo Johnson. He lived through his spider ordeal. Then he took everything that Windom left behind (notes, computer files, other assorted Windom things) and built a criminal empire. I find it very hard to believe that the fucking casting director's son who was in the 1st two seasons and the fucking movie is NOT in this one.
The secret history of twin peaks tells us what happens to a bunch of characters like Leo. For instance Hank dies in prison. But not one word in the book about Leo? I got to believe that he lives and he’s not just a slobbering fool any more. I know this is probably not going to happen. But that's my theory.
I cannot imagine Leo is a rich billionaire — how did he make his money? A theory that makes sense I’ve heard on EW TP podcast that it could be BOB-Cooper attempting to catch Good Cooper if he ever left the Lodge. But really, I have no idea… not as of end of P7.
I like how Lynch-Frost are using all official Twin Peaks releases as canon to draw the narrative from — Laura’s Diary, FWWM, Missing Pieces of blu-ray edition, as well as many classic episode threads.
And like Erik, I KNOW, that Sheriff Harry S. Truman will make an appearance in this season. I feel it in my bones.
It’s looking grim for Harry — or rather, it sounds grim from Frank saying to Harry, “beat this thing.” But actually I can see Ontkean coming out of retirement to have a role toward the end of the series. I also (want to) believe Josie returning … maybe she’s the billionaire, but why would she make such a contraption mounted to the side of building?

Spot on is right Mr Domi. You got that Diane was Laura Dern AND that she drinks at the Pub we went to. I even want to say she is seated in the area of the bar that we were sitting at that night.  Glad it wasn't raining when we went, "FUCK Gene Kelly, You mother fucker!!" LOL I love Albert, he is my favorite this season. (Location: Max Von's Bar = Casey's Irish Pub, 619 South Grand, LA)
So Episode 7 should have shut up all those whiner's and complainer's of Ep 6. There was a lot of hate on the internet, and even in our FB Group, about that episode. I was ok with it. I did not like the scene with the kid getting hit by the truck, but the scene ended with the Fat Trout Telephone pole, so I'm ok with it.
"Lynch has gotten flak for the male gaze in his work, but the problems go a lot deeper than lingering shots on female anatomy.…” Laura Hudson in Vulture.
Also in EP 6 we finally got two major new pieces of music from Angelo, not his best work, but still great to hear.  The overall lack of his music is my biggest complaint this season in case I didn't make that clear.
When Johnny Jewel's Windswept first appeared, I thought that was Badalamenti  finally debuting new music. I was definitely disappointed it was not Angelo, no disrespect to Johnny. But I agree with you Erik about no AB original score. That music is what made classic Peaks so memorable. I don’t get why Lynch is using such popular music. There really wan’t any such tracks in FWWM, it was Angelo’s music and further cemented Peaks as evergreen. Lynch is acting like Scorcese in the epic cinematic story… and he doesn’t need to. Marty did not have a Badalamenti in his arsenal. Lynch does. Please use him.
EP 7...There's a body alright.. is definitely the shit. Now we are cooking. Jerry!!!! Come out of it man... Lets get Ben and Jerry back in action, not disfunction. The diary pages, Annie's message from FWWM, Leland hiding pages, DIANE from hell! ... Bringing it all back home.
There’s a dark undercurrent with Diane and Cooper. All signs are indicating something very bad happened to Diane. I think BOB-Cooper raped her.
I wonder where Frank Truman was at the time of Laura's murder? He says he remembers Leland, her father, did it, but is not really familiar with the case. BUT why the heck is Frank not asking "So what is "the Lodge" you keep talking about?” Hawk?
The way Hawk talks so knowledgable about both Lodges and the way Frank does not question or disbelieve him, then it must be common knowledge among the indigenous culture. Wonder if Frank is a Bookhouse Boy?
Ancient Doc Hayward, kinda sad, but he was still funny. Did you catch his Skype name?  MiddleburyDoc... Warren Frost was actually living in VT right? They probably actually did just Skype him and screen capture it…lol
I caught that right away about Warren Frost’s Skype handle. And no doubt, Frost stayed in Vermont to do his scene. That just recorded the screen.… I do miss Briggs. Yet he died long before Lynch-Frost’s three-year tenure writing the new story, they had plenty of time to work the presence of him into the story.
Briggsy.. Oh Major Briggs. how we miss thee. Should be interesting how this plays out. And When the hell are we going to go back to I bet the road where Andy is waiting to meet the Truck owner is up there at Frankln Canyon Pond.
The Dog Leg.... WTF?  Is Joe McCluskey the guy that rigged the car and Mr C Killed earlier on? I do think the Psycho Little guy with the Ice Pick and Gun is kinda silly. Over the top for no reason.  Oh well.… It's kinda silly also that no one has taken Dougie to the Doctor. Everyone just plays along. we have to suspend disbelief I guess.
OMG enough with the guy sweeping at the Roadhosue. Is this all the extra time he told Shotime he needed more money for to tell the story properly?  lol and more music used in hundreds of shows and commercials. I love Booker T and the MGs don't get me wrong, but ... UGH I miss you Angelo... Also... Kinda weird to see Jean Michel... Did Jacque Renault have a twin brother? lol Mr. C and Ray getting out of Prison.. Bad stuff gonna happen. I think they might have used San Bernadino County Jail for this locaton. The Cell block Cooper is located on looks familar.  I will compare some screen grabs from my Locaton and Publicity Photos we took for Beyond Scared Straight at that jail.
And beause they needed to pad the ending to get to the alloted running time... Back to the RR Diner for the end scene, and yet another over-used stock song they probably had to pay more to use than what they paid Angelo for everything. Plus, I liked that song better when they used it in the X-files episode “Home" but No, I'm not bitter.
General notes: Glad Naomi Watts has such a big part. She really owns her scenes. Wish Jennifer Jason Leigh was more present but Mr C just left Jail for somewhere... It's slightly brilliant how Lynch (but probably Frost came up with it) still has made Harry a character in the show. even if only on the phone and never even heard. I feel like Harry is there kinda. Also brilliant... Robert Forrester.... wow. Wish he was in the original or the movie. Not sure how I feel with Dern as Diane. I'll go with it and see what happens.
Outstanding questions for me....(cause I haven't been reading blogs or listening to podcasts)
What is up with all the Arthurian Legend references? Dougie lives on Lancalot Court, down the street from the Merlin Market. Janey-E meets for the ransom drop on the corner of Gueneivere and Merlin. And of course, Glastonbury Grove... Pete Martel: "King Arthur's burried in England!"
Why is it when Dougie puts his thumb up or his hand out to shake, he turns his body 180 degrees?
What is up with the creepy guy (from Mulholland Diner scene) in the Vegas Office? I can't seem to catch his meaning in the story line.
What is up with Cooper's Room Key from the Great Northern? If has finally made it back to Ben Horne...Soooo?
One last question... Did Lynch quit smoking?  He made two references to people (Gordon Cole even) quitting. Did we ever even see Cole smoke in the series or movie? weird for him to say he quit when the character never smoked on camera. "You think about that Tammy."

But I think that a "Sheriff Truman" has been in power for over 60 consecutive years now between the 2 brothers and their father. It sort of like there must always be a Stark in Winterfell.
To my knowledge that was the first time ever we have heard name Joe McCluskey. I have no clue who that is. But I have a feeling we will learn.
Yea, I don’t recollect Joe McCluskey. Gotta watch again to see if he first appears or is mentioned earlier.
I think Ike the Spike is either from the black lodge or an agent of the black lodge. Remember he smelled "funny" per the little girl.
Spike did look a little monstery, his teeth especially.
I actually loved that scene of the sweeping. I could just imagine everyone watching was freaking out and I enjoyed that. And I thought that Walter did some great acting while on the phone as Jean-Michel. "He owes me for two!"
That ending scene from the RR diner was weird as shit. Its either the worst continuity error of all time or something truly weird happened there. Completely different set of people dining there after David Lynch's son runs in and asks if anyone has seen Billy.
Lynch did not quit smoking. He, like Harry Dean are lifers.
Both Laura Dern and Naomi Watts are killing their roles. Both doing a fantastic job. I just cannot wait to see them come face to face over Dougie.
And MacLachlan! All his Cooper iterations are really well done. I love that BOB-Cooper character. Can’t wait to see what trouble he kicks up now!
My new tin foil theory is that we may be dealing with 2 Twin Peaks. Twins of each other if you will. I'm still working this one out. Different versions of the same town in different universes a part of a greater multiverse?
Did you notice Andy was wearing a rolex? Kind of weird.
…And he was supposed to meet the guy at 4:30. Is that one of the numbers from ????? ?
The guy from the Vegas office is working directly for Phillip Jeffries or whoever is pretending to be him IMO.
Don’t overlook the black soot guy walking in the hallway toward the female FBI agent in the morgue. I think it’s related to the guy next to Bill Hastings cell.…
Lots of Arthurian Legend stuff from way back when. I never got that. But its seems to be very important. I would love to go to Merlin's Market.
During the end credits from the last episode buried in the music is Windham Earle's theme mixed into the background too!!!!!
I might try headphones for tonight’s part to see exactly what sounds I miss. I know there’s a lot of low audible noise and rumbling that I don’t hear when our apartment is 86º and the fan is going.…

Yeah I agree about MacLachlan is killing it and should win an Emmy for best actor. Black soot guy is awesome and its the same dude for sure from the jail cell. Some people seem to think we have seen him a third time as a homeless man outside of Vegas at the Rachera Rosa is whatever it is called. I don't think that we did. I will need to re-watch that again. Another tin foil hat theory. On those three pages from Laura's diary she refers to knowing who it is and that its not Bob. At least everyone thinks she is referencing Leland. That is probably most right. However I am thinking that she is referring to an evil more powerful and sadistic than even Bob.Like whatever came out of the glass box and mutilated those younglings.

I am thinking if the guy in the diner eating food non-stop the whole scene with Ray and the chick Mr C shot in the head.  Just before he kills her, he tells her "i killed joe, and the she freaks out, knowing the gig is up.   The previous scene the eating guy "joe" does something to a car in storage and then cooper like squeezes his face for a whole minute.   Could be McCluskey?
> "Lynch did not quit smoking."
Well, its mighty fine of him to send a non smoking message to all the youths. Considering Cole does not smoke, it is a conscious message.
> "All his Cooper iterations are really well done."
Yes, Kyle will def get an Emmy nomination. Dern and Watts will also I predict.
> “RR diner was weird as shit. Its either the worst continuity error of all time or something truly weird happened there.”
There are no accidents on a Lynch set. If an error occurs and he likes it he will use it. So who knows why he did it. On the same level as the windows  flashing code on the FBI jet.  He is throwing out decoys i feel.
> “then it (the Lodge) must be common knowledge among the indigenous culture.”
Then why the heck is Truman not like "well lets go up there" nor does Hawk tell him he was up in those woods when Log Lady last called.
> “Don’t overlook the black soot guy walking in the hallway”
Nope, I did not mention him cause i consider it another decoy.  Kinda like the shambling being behind the diner in Mulholland Drive...never came up again. i am sure he will play a part at some point.
But i did forget to mention the playing card Mr. C  showed the girl in the hotel bed before he shoots her.  Aliens? Very well could be.
Have a good viewing. The damn internet saying EP 8 is extra noteworthy. Could it be Phillip Jeffries? Windom Earl?  More Leland and Laura? (I actually doubt we will see either of them again).  Audrey? Big Ed? They got plenty of options.
Cheers! ~G
