ugh this scene in "prince caspian" perfectly shows how the siblings' relationship has changed since "the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe":
Peter would have just gotten SO annoyed at Edmund, he probably would have been upset, made some kind of comment about Edmund making bad decisions
Edmund would have made a snarky comment, he honestly probably wouldn't even have taken out the flashlight and let Peter suffer
Susan would've probably gotten a bit annoyed, maybe snapped at both the boys for how they were acting, taken on that scolding maternal tone we hear her use in the first movie
Lucy probably would have been worried, upset that her siblings are fighting (because we see that in lww, Lucy's very much affected whenever her siblings are upset)
but now?
Peter makes it into a joke, obviously trying not to laugh and trying his best to remain serious, but his tone is still so playful when he says "you might have mentioned that a bit earlier", and he just laughs with Edmund
Susan's shaking her head but trying not to smile, very much just fondly exasperated at her brothers
Edmund's just grinning, because he obviously JUST remembered that he had the flashlight, and now he's stepped into that younger brother role, teasing his big brother and pulling out the perfect solution
Lucy, while still worried about what's to come, is smiling like Susan, holding back her own giggles, and again, that shows how Lucy's so affected by the emotions of her siblings
(and now this has me thinking that maybe, just maybe, Edmund knew how to make Lucy feel better, so he pulled the flashlight out, and Peter knew what he was doing, and wanted to break the tension so their little sister would laugh, and i'm going to go cry over them byeee)

today's cowboy au thoughts:
arthur becomes one of those people who's up before the sun, whilst john would be happy to stay in bed and sleep half the morning away. most days, they manage to compromise with arthur lazing in bed for another hour or so before escaping to tend to the chores he'd rather get through while it's not nightmarishly hot. (they moved to oklahoma—lots of farmland, sure, but the summer weather is a new kind of cruelty compared to arkham.)
john, ever his opposite, prefers just to get his work done in the evenings, in the not-quite-darkness when the fireflies are out and the edge of warmth is manageable. he likes the sleepy stillness that settles over their little stretch of prairie, likes to work knowing there's a pitcher of tea waiting in the kitchen. they're slowly realizing they have all the time in the world to argue about when they should let the cattle out and how much sugar belongs in the tea and what a decent time to wake up in the mornings is. they spent what felt like lifetimes running, fleeing from one danger and headfirst into the next, and now they've settled into simplicity they thought they would never find.

I wanna know more about Celerity! (Did I spell that right? My phone keeps autocorrecting lmao) maybe how she got/discovered the power?
I believe that's the right spelling lol.
Most powers/abilities are developed as children. Cel's did as well!
Her parents are both powerless. They both considered magic an inconvenience at worst, a tool for profit at best.
They aren't uncommon, but they aren't the majority people either, and many who do have powers can be considered a danger in the working world, and therefore many powerholders need to find more...dangerous jobs. Things that they can actually profit and live off. Her parents have built their empire off the powered, so they know that they're important but they don't necessarily care for them.
That means that when Cel first got her powers, shocking a worker with a bolt of electricity when they didn't give her what they want, the only thing they thought about it was profit.
They wanted her to use her powers to help them, either to intimidate their rival businesses, or fight for them, or even gloat at their co-owners ("HAH my daughter has powers and you don't IDIOT")
But her powers weren't...like that. She couldn't decide when to use them. She couldn't make them appear at will. And when they did appear, they didn't bend to her will.
Actually using them would take years of training and effort. Time that they would rather spend doing "better" things.
To put it simply, they got bored of her.
Not that she didn't try.
She tried so, so hard. When she realised that her powers were what made her parents care about her she tried to control them by herself. She spent hours, days, years trying to perfect it, so that one day they could finally look at her with pride instead of mild disinterest. She did everything she could think of, almost to the point of it being harmful. She pushed herself to her limits, pushed her only friend away, until they decided it was enough and forced her to stop.
She was six when her obsession started. She was sixteen when she stopped. A decade of her life, her entire childhood, wasted on magic she couldn't control.
Now she has people who understand how she works. She's learnt to not try to force the tide to do her bidding, but rather ride with the current. Ironically, once she stopped forcing it the powers came naturally, and she's learning how to use them better now, is being taught by people who actually understand it themselves.
I wanna talk a bit about the powers themselves as well
She has the ability to summon lightning. This comes with a whole bunch of other things she can sorta? Kinda do? On the side? Maybe?
She can manipulate heat, light, and electricity to a very small extent. Her abilities are much more closely tied together than some other people's, which means that in order for them to work she needs to combine all these things together in order to actually do anything. She would be able to do some things with the three energy types separately, but she sort of stunted her growth within those individual categories when she grew up because she was so focused on using all of them at the same time.
She's found that she can manipulate them better when she is using certain tools though! Metal specifically is a big assistant for her powers. It works as a sort of holder for electricity and heat, so any a lot of the items she uses to fight with are metal.
She also has a big issue with overuse of her powers. A lot of people born with magic need to use it regularly or else it builds up and can lead to an outburst, but Cel's a bit of the opposite. She burns herself out regularly, and doesn't know her own limits.
This leads to a sort of specific burn out I've nicknamed "frying her brain". When she utilizes a big burst of electricity, her mind can be affected, rendered completely useless for a while. In this states she is completely dazed and unreachable. Usually she passes out.
Oh and! Powered people usually have a passive ability as well! Her's involves her speed! She moves, thinks, processes and reacts faster than most people. She always knew that she was quick, but it wasn't until she started talking to her friends that she realised it was like... stupidly quick. Like. If she wanted to she could run faster than a car quick.
