hello! :) i dont think ive ever sent an ask to this account before but reading your posts is so awesome!

i havent read warriors in a hot minute, i kind of lost interest after avos, so i dont really know whats happening currently in the series, but i was just curious maybe about what your favorite book was before the broken code? (just because i don't know anything past that haha) and any thoughts on it! i hope this makes sense! thank you :)

It’s hard to say honestly! But I think if I were to choose just one, probably currently Shattered Sky (book 3 of avos) and that stands for broken code and beyond too!

One bias I may have here is that Darktail is my second favourite warrior cat, and one of my favourite characters of all time period, and Needletail is probably my third favourite warrior cat, but honestly this book is a key reason why for both characters.

It’s just the perfect way to end an arc… in book 3. But man it just has everything.

SkyClan returns

The mystery of what happened to Dawnpelt not being spoon fed to the audience, in the end it’s a non POV character (Needletail) who makes the connection of what exactly happened to her in one of the most underrated scenes in all of warriors.

Needletail having the perfect way to end her selfish to selfless character arc through both her iconic sacrifice and for things she does throughout the book as well such as give up food for fellow prisoners

Darktail, just Darktail. He just somehow kicks it up a notch this book he is just absolutely despicable. Using kittypets and elders as frontline soldiers in battle in order to deter the enemy from attacking too fiercely. Promising to take cats who want to leave the kin to the border himself and murdering them instead (which is done so effectively in the eyes of a naive young protagonist who doesn’t realise what’s going on), the murder of Rain, enforced starvation of prisoners, the little game he plays to traumatise Violetpaw and Needletail at the lake which ultimately ends in Needletail’s sacrifice. And his iconic confrontation with his father. And those are just the highlights of this book, I love this character so much.

And then we don’t just have one battle in this book, we have three, but the last battle is truly one of the most underrated in warriors. All of the clans using their unique skills to defeat the kin, with RiverClan rising out of the lake is just, amazing, it’s just amazing. I love you shattered sky, it’s unfair how people just lump avos as the worst arc when such a strong beginning and such a phenomenal middle book as this exist.

Also sidenote somehow, the book still has time to give Purdy a heart attack and have him die lol. And it doesn’t feel out of place. Everything just works.

Bet [a short story]

⇢ start the day off with a bet and see what it unravels from the past.

Happy birthday to my favourite werewolf!

B is definitely the most underrated out of the four ROs and deserves lots of love. I'd like to think that those romancing B are in for a treat and will have the best time doing so. There's nothing wrong with being soft and kind in a hard world.

Hope you enjoy this short story for their birthday, do tell me what you think—[pat on the back for writing this on my birthday with dodgy wifi on my way back from Paris!]

“Way to turn this day on its head, B,” you mutter as you turn to them.

They let out a breathy chuckle and shake their head lightly. “I didn’t.”

You arch a brow and give them a strong stare. “You, one of the most sociable and extroverted people I know,” you continue, “practically just admitted that they don’t like celebrating your birthday.”

“No,” B counters back. ”I said that I’m not crazy about it. Is that so surprising?”

You wet your lips, noticing that you may have come across a topic that B has purposefully failed to mention for one reason or another—and though you want to get to the bottom of it—you know there are certain ways to go about it.

“Let’s put a wager on,” you say quickly, ignoring their question and watching as their brows raise. You elaborate. “Okay, not a wager, but a bet.”

The corners of their mouth twitch upwards. “I couldn’t possibly refuse one of those.” You’d use many adjectives to describe B: kind, considerate, selfless—daring is another, the side of them that isn’t the most visible to the naked eye, but it’s the same trait that pushes them to treat things as a challenge and not back down.

You smile and lean forward, let your eyes scan over their face—take note of the scattered freckles that have appeared due to the July sun—and nod. “I bet I’ll give you the best birthday you’ve had.”

B chuckles. “I don’t think that’ll be hard considering I cherish the days I spend with you.” Very smooth. “Though I accept wholeheartedly.” They stick out a hand for you to take and you do. Your fingertips glide over the gold rings on their fingers before they bring your hand up to their mouth, they press a kiss to it like it’s tradition, like your bet with them is now sealed. “And if I don’t have the best birthday ever?” they ask you.

“Then you would’ve spent the day with me and that’s still pretty good, no?” you say back smugly, taking in B’s laugh before you slip out of your seat.

“Touché.”

“Let’s go.”

“Where?” they ask.

“I’m taking you out.”

The two of you strayed from your plan…very much so. What was originally going to be a dinner became a hand-held walk along a cobbled street before B’s eyes latched onto an arcade, and the words ‘fancy a game?” fell from their lips. You were pulled in, and a game turned into one and then two until a handful more tickets were being bought.

“You have an unfair advantage,” you mutter with a groan. You crouch down to slip the air hockey puck out of your goal.

“Ah, an excuse as to why you’re losing badly.”

You give B a slight glare. “A perfectly valid excuse.” You slide the hockey puck to their side of the table and with ease, it’s sent back over to you.

“I’d like to think fully human me could beat you at this too.”

“Hm, I don’t believe that for a second,” you shoot back, not only with words but the puck is back in their half of the table. “Either way, human you would probably let me win.”

B snorts. “Becoming a werewolf didn’t change my personality, babe,” they say casually with short pauses between their words when the puck slots into their goal. B’s lips twist, the look of competitiveness and concentration is back. “We should play another game,” they mutter quickly.

“Because I’ve scored a point?” you ask with a laugh.

“Because I want to win,” they answer back with a teasing smile.

It’s ironic that your game ended in a draw, especially with the day starting with the words ‘I bet’. By the time you leave the arcade, hand clutching a stuffed animal, it’s nightfall. Not pitch black, but dark enough to see the fragments of stars twinkling in the sky. You’re once again off course: dinner and a walk before getting a cake has turned to finding a quiet park, getting a comfortable spot on a small hill and looking up at the sky.

Your hands brush against B’s every so often until they lace their fingers with yours. “Look at that, a half-moon.” The hint of relief is in their words before a smile quickly comes after.

You give their hand a squeeze. “Lucky us.”

B’s thumb rubs the outside of your hand and for a moment you’re silent. It’s peaceful, far from awkward—come to think of it, you’re sure you’ve never had an awkward silence with B.

“My mum made birthdays really weird,” they blurt out. It’s completely random, and breaks any train of thought you were having but you listen intently; turning away from trying to find constellations. “I was being honest when I said my personality hadn’t changed when I turned, but she didn’t see it the same. I was, still am, a different person to her so, yeah…birthdays aren’t something I look forward to.”

There’s a whole other story behind that, you can tell by B’s face, by the way their hand holds onto yours that much tighter as though they’re trying not to lose you.

You wet your lips and lay on your side. “Werewolf, human, whatever—I’d love you all the same.” The two of you have been through a whirlwind of adventures: some sentimental, some utterly dangerous, others in between that pushed you towards each other both literally and metaphorically. Three words like ‘I love you’ are probably thought a lot more than they’re said, but saying them now seems appropriate.

B leans on their side too. Their eyes are a little hooded, they concentrate on your perfectly entwined fingers before their eyes meet your own.

“We probably wouldn’t have met if I was human.”

“What a disaster that would be.”

“I don’t know,” B muses. “Life would probably be a lot quieter and I have been craving that for a while,” they joke.

Your eyes roll. “If this is your way of breaking up with me and telling me to leave, then—“

They chuckle before throwing an arm around you and pulling you closer. “You know I’d never do that.” You do, you don’t need to be told that but it’s a delight to hear it.

You and B are true-blue. Completely.

“You have more to you than being a werewolf, B,” you utter. “I’d happily tell that to anyone who thinks differently.”

“I appreciate that.” They wouldn’t have to tell you, you know they do. Their gaze goes back up to the sky for a brief moment. “You won.”

“What?”

“You won,” they repeat with a small smile before turning to you. “Your bet from this morning.”

I bet I’ll give you the best birthday you’ve had.

Your brows furrow. “We didn’t do anything I actually planned.”

“It’s not bad to steer off course.”

Your bottom lip sticks out. “We did the most simple things.”

“I like simple,” B fires back. “Not everything has to be spontaneous, the little things aren’t appreciated enough. I, for one, know all about that.” They go to sit up and you follow in suit, their arm stays looped around you. “Speaking of simple, we should order a takeaway.”

“I’d call you boring but considering we missed our dinner reservation to play air hockey, I don’t think that’s a bad idea.”

The two of you get and start walking back down the hill, B leans over and presses a kiss on your temple before their lips drop and brush over your ear. “We should have these bets more often.”

STAYC - bubble. teddy bear is my favorite stayc song i think, and this is very much in the same vein, really really fun energetic cute pop girlie stuff. may even surpass teddy bear! also to me this song is about being gay. in many years i believe the "mannish schoolteacher trying to get the girls to behave" trope will be widely discussed as a hallmark of lesbianism in kpop

2. stray kids - super bowl. kinda haven't been as obsessed with skz lately (on mood stabilizers so im not as into bts etc), but this shit just so-- well-- the shit so bussin, you could say. its so interesting to me that this song was the original "gods menu." 2. LUCY - stove. these guys are geniuses. they're a korean band (not really kpop) with an incredible violinist and amazing lead vocals. i never see anyone talking about them, they're really underrated in that way but everyone should get the chance to listen to them! I'll recommend "stove" because it's a wonderful wintery song and it's just getting cold out now. but definitely listen to "flare" too!

I remember seeing a person who was “disappointed” when they got to watch Kim possible.

Their complains were they there wasn’t enough action nor Kim and Shego and they also didn’t liked how much Protagonism Ron had through the series I guess they initially thought he was just a comic relief character from what they had seen in the fandom?

They also initially thought Rufus was Kim’s pet and not Ron’s.

I just think they were influenced a little by the fanart/fandom of the show.

Was this your first time watching Kim possible? Or was it a re-watch?

I’m curious, what was your impression of the characters? First impression and after you watched the series?

What’s your favorite episode? Character?

This was my first time watching. I can't even really remember what prompted me to watch it, I think I just said "hmmm, never watched this before" and gave it a shot shfhshds.

I really gravitated towards a lot of the villains in the beginning, mainly Drakken, Shego, and the Seniors. I was initially not all that interested in the everyday life conflicts that Ron and Kim had, since in the beginning I wasn't a fan of either one (also, I had an irrational hatred for Rufus in the beginning. Maybe it's because I correlated him with that horrifying cgi Rufus from the Kim Possible reboot trailers I saw).

But my opinion definitely changed by the end of the series. I still loved the aforementioned villains (which I'll touch on in a minute), but I grew to love both Kim and Ron more and more as the show went on. I thought they were a very good dynamic both as friends and as a relationship, and I ended up getting pretty invested in the struggles they dealt with outside of their hero-lives. I also grew out of my irrational hatred for Rufus.

My favorite characters, it's tough because I think it's a really solid cast all around. But I'd say the absolute top tier characters for me are Ron, Drakken, Shego, and Señor Senior Junior. Ron I've already expressed my appreciation for, he's an absolute A+ character. Drakken is criminally underrated from what I've seen, which is disappointing because every word out of his mouth is comedy gold. Shego, of course, is as iconic as I'd been told she was, and I loved how she played off of the other characters with her sarcasm. And Señor Senior Jr. is an absolute delight to watch, he's strangely adorable at times and his rendition of "quit playing games with my head" had me cackling like a witch.

As for my favorite episode, I really liked A Sitch In Time, which I know is technically 3 episodes but they tell the same story so I'll count it. I'm a sucker for "dystopian future" settings and this one did not disappoint, plus it blessed us with the horrible abomination that is buff Drakken, or as I like to call him, Brakken. But some honorable mentions would be; Rappin' Drakken, Two to Tutor, Job Unfair, Oh Boyz, A Very Possible Christmas, Bad Boy, and Mad Dogs and Aliens.

I love Teen Titans Beast Boy but now that I know that Beast Boy is actually really really smart, as much as I love his comedic potential, or how he played the comedic relief in the Teen Titans comics...I feel like dumbing him down was really...idk lazy writing

I mean okay if the rest of the cast thinks Beast Boy is dumb because he plays class clown all the time and generally people don't equate humor with intelligence (which is wrong because intelligent people do have a sense of humor. You gotta be pretty witty to be able to make people laugh. Idk why we think like this) that would be okay but it's pretty clear in the original Teen Titans show with the many puns of how Beast Boy doesn't have a brain and how he was easily brainwashed by Mad Mod that...it's not him acting dumb, it's really the show making fun of his lack of intelligence compared to the rest of the cast...and that ain't cool

I still have an affection for Teen Titans show Beast Boy, but I actually want to see Beast Boy being used at his fullest potential with his comedy and his intelligence.

It seems Young Justice and Titans might be doing that. I love the personality that Garfield shows in DC Titans. How he's so into vintage things, old games, and movies. Ugh, I love that! He's so cool and rad!

And I love how Young Justice really showcases him as a leader (though Idk doesn't his character try to avoid that because of the abuse he went through with Mento and his earlier guardians. Young Justice focuses a lot on Beast Boy's trauma over the losses in his life but there's no mention of the fact that Garfield was also a victim of abuse as a child and how much that affected him. Either way, it's great they're exploring his depression. I think that's awesome! Along with how he created the Outsiders instead of having Batman do that...of course, it's later revealed that Batman and co. have been manipulating events to make the Outsiders prominent to the public but...I still think in YJ, the Outsiders was Beast Boy's invention and I love how much of a major role he plays in YJ. I hope if they renew another season we see more of him instead of just focusing on the old cast members, just focus on more of the newer generation like Beast Boy, Blue Beetle, Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, Robin (Tim Drake), El Dorado, Halo, and Forager.

Anyway, I'm ranting...if these mediums don't satisfy me, I'm just gonna go look for the Garfield Logan comics because I mean I think he's so underrated and he must be a lot more considering all the versions I see of him. Just wish someone would focus on both the comedy and the intelligence he has. YJ does show a more intelligent and serious Gar, but where's the comedy? Hopefully, in the future we'll see it... and I haven't finished Titans to give a good diagnosis of what my final thoughts on Gar is just yet in that show. Teen Titans cartoon though, as much as I love him as a comedic relief, it's unfair that they keep making jokes about his intelligence. He's actually a very smart kid.

I mean I think I read a post that said his IQ was 143, both his biological parents were genius scientists and he was experimented on in order to be smarter...just like Cyborg actually. I mean, of course, Garfield is smart! Unless I'm confusing him with someone else?

8. an artist you think is underrated

oh god. so many. the big one that's coming to mind right now is marika hackman, bc she's sonically in that popular "sad girl" indie rock genre (i know a lot of the artists chafe at the label and i get it but also i don't know how else to lump them together) your mitski lucy dacus phoebe bridgers etc. but she doesn't really get included in a lot of the lyric compilations and doesn't seem to get a lot of the shine. there's a lot of reasons for that (her last album was in 2019 and others have had more recent releases, she's british and a lot of these other artists are american, she's a bit more folk than rock or pop) but i can't help but feel like it's a bit unfair. people were calling hozier a spooky lesbian forest spirit when she - an actual lesbian - released we slept at last, a gorgeous spooky forest-y album, in 2015. people lament "sanitized" queer representation, and her 2019 album any human friend has quite a few songs about explicit lesbian sexuality. i feel like she has a lot of what people want in media but they don't know about her.

check out "deep green" & "before i sleep" for the spooky forest vibes, "boyfriend" & "i'm not where you are" for the indie-rock vibes.

oh also! speaking of artists similar to popular artists, irish band soda blonde had a very similar arc to mitski & laurel hell with their 2021 album small talk - they were more of a folk rock band in their previous iteration as little green cars, but when they reformed the band (a member had to leave for health reasons) they went in a more dance-y, pumped up direction. the lead singer faye o'rourke, like mitski, has a very rich emotive voice that makes the direction work, and faye's vulnerable lyrics were giving me comfort long before i discovered mitski. check out "swimming through the night" and "the dark trapeze".

(long time followers of this blog have probably heard me rec both of these artists before. i'm not sorry.)

11. a popular song you think is Good, Actually

i was stunned when i first heard no children by the mountain goats. like i was super late to the game so i had years of hype about the mountain goats and all the tiktok virality to raise my expectations and then it was actually as good as people said. like, it was less sad and mopey than i expected, but honestly that was a pleasant surprise. it's not a funny song exactly but it's got this bitter sarcastic edge that highlights a totally different side of the relationship-grieving process. it's about all the unpleasant cruel petty feelings we often feel - the desire to see the person who caused our suffering suffer as we did, the desire to wallow and moan forever instead of moving on. there's not many songs that deal with that so directly.

14. an unpopular music opinion

taylor swift haters are one thousand percent more cringe than taylor swift stans. yeah uncritical praise is dumb but at least they're enjoying themselves, taylor swift haters are just like. misogyny but it's okay bc she's a white woman who's famous and makes bad music sometimes

i'm sure there are lots i could get up in arms about but the only one that's coming to mind is the sexy baby line from anti-hero. like taylor's got lots of cringe lyrics, plenty on that album specifically, but they all work on anti-hero bc it's self-aware - the problem is me! admitting your insecurities is often cringe and embarrassing. insecurities are often irrational and ridiculous. that's the point.

1 - favorite character/s and why

I love The Arbiter from Halo and not just because he is very attractive, although that helps, I suppose. In the games, at least - I hear the novels don't tend to support my interpretation of him, sadly - he comes across as someone kind-hearted and loyal at his core. He and Master Chief unite toward a common goal initially, but their relationship becomes one of genuine fondness and deep respect and he even accompanies Master Chief into serious danger to try to save Cortana, which he has no obligation to do at all - but he isn't one to abandon a comrade!! He is full of Catholic guilt (Covenant guilt?) and is but a cog in a horrendous machine, poor fella. My knowledge of Halo lore indicates he was able to go on to do good things for the Sangheili outside of Covenant rule, and if I'm wrong then that's canon to me <3

All the characters I've mentioned so far have been guys, which is unfair, so I think I will talk about Roderika, who is probably the least spoken about Elden Ring NPC ever outside of, like, Nameless White Mask #2, which I find a real shame. I know she isn't one of the more lore-dense characters, but she's genuinely lovely. I mean, she gives you Aurelia, who is precious and my go-to Spirit Ash even if I know there are better ones out there (although I prefer that she just kinda... supports a bit instead of soloing bosses, to be honest?). I think her storyline, though simple, is really heartening and a rare treat in a game full of sad storylines. She has lost her home and all those dear to her, but finds her talent and a father figure and really grows into herself. She's seen horrors beyond her comprehension but she stays soft and sweet and even finds happiness in her new life, in the capacity she's given.

4 - favorite underrated band

Got to give a shout-out to Nasty Fishmonger which is a folk-punk group that consists of some very cool people I went to uni with!!! They are SO good live and have an album called "Band of Common Folk".

Also, I don't know most of their music but the EP by Shoe, "Giant Demonic Grub Seeks Shallow Swamp Can Pay $200 A Week" is a favourite of mine and nobody except to the friend who (inadvertently) showed it to me seems to have heard of it.

14 - favorite genres to read or watch?

I like reading non-fiction, mostly about natural sciences and history (nice and vague, I know). But basically, give me a book about fish or some shit and I am HAPPY. In terms of fiction, I read more or less anything. Magical realism and stuff that's a bit fantasy or a bit sci-fi is good, but really dense SFF I need to be in the mood for. I'm not a big romance person overall, but if I get invested in a romance storyline it really gives me brainworms.

Blorbo: If you want me to stick to Awakening, since that's where Robin's from, then that'd be Lucina! I love her. My daughter <3 (because I married Chrom lmao). I made her absolutely busted in FE Heroes too, though I haven't actually played that in a while.

Though technically Lucina's my second favourite Fire Emblem character overall. First place actually goes to Edelgard! That's My Wife right there. My beloved. I like the other house leaders too, but,,, El <3

...But once again, as much as I love these girls, sadly I don't think I could write them well. But maybe. They're on the list of characters I would consider adding if I ever added another Fire Emblem muse here, just because I love them, but I'd definitely have to replay their respective games first.

Skrunkly: Uhhhhh. So the funny thing is, I usually really like the characters that tend to be described as "pure" or "cinnamon rolls", and just overall those who would fit into this category well, but for some reason with Fire Emblem, I just don't get as attached to them? So I dunno who I'd say for Awakening specifically, but at least for Three Houses I do like Ashe?

Scrimblo Bimblo: Could Henry count as underrated? Probably not, huh. I think he's pretty popular. But I do like him a lot! My funny murder crow guy. And Owain... Probably also doesn't count here, huh. Not sure how popular he is among the fandom, but like. With his appearances in Fates and Warriors, the games themselves sure give him a lot of love. But he's also really funny, and one of my other favourites from Awakening. So... I dunno!

Ashe could probably also fall in this category, since when it comes to the Blue Lions I think most people tend to focus on Dimitri, Felix, and Sylvain (and Ingrid and Dedue?) more than anyone else. But that would be reusing characters, so. hhhhhhh dgdhshf

Glup Shitto: So like. I thought this was gonna be a difficult question but then I remembered. Nobody fucking played Echoes. I feel like anyone from there is free game except for Alm and Celica ashshdfh. So! I remember liking Mae quite a bit, but I think my favourite from there was Conrad! I remember him being really sweet

Poor Little Meow Meow: I don't like reusing characters for these but. C'mon. I don't think there's an FE character out there that's more controversial than Edelgard von Hresvelg lmao. I have absolutely zero interest in dealing with any of the Discourse, so all I will say is: we love Edelgard in this house. This is an Edelgard Appreciation Zone, or at the very least an Edelgard Tolerating Zone if you personally dislike her.

That said, I also wanna give a shoutout to Takumi from Fates, because I adore him too and still stand by him being one of the better things to come out of Fates. He's a bit of an ass to Corrin at the start, sure, but like. I feel like that's kinda justified?? He doesn't remember Corrin like Hinoka and Ryoma do, so from his perspective some random stranger from the country they are currently at war with has just waltzed in and is basically being treated like a god when they very well could be an enemy spy. And iirc, he does want to accept Corrin and get to know them? But he's smart, and remains wary until Corrin does choose his family's side.

...The Blame Takumi memes are still funny though, I won't lie dghdsf. I started with Conquest, so those memes are actually what led me to look into him more when I got around to playing Birthright

Horse Plinko: Y'know what. Lorenz. Is that unfair to say, given that I never did get around to playing the Golden Deer route? Yeah, kinda. Am I gonna say it anyway, because I'm not sure who else to say? Haha yea

I can't remember if I've made a list like this before but even so, I've played a few more now so, first list is according to story/writing and my choices as a reviewer. These are just my choices btw not everyone will agree because we all have different tastes even when I'm trying to be objective XD

1. Collar x Malice - Best story, best sleek style, best character group imo. It's a great game.

2. Code Realize (I love Van and SG is awesome)

3. Piofiore (entirely because of Yang let's be real here) this game is trash but its pretty trash and its MY trash okay? I have a love/hate relationship with this game. I dislike 2 of the LI's with a burning passion and am indifferent to the other two. The menu screen and options are so sleek and pretty, the music is top notch. the sprites and movements in fight scenes really paint the picture of whats going on. there's some loose Italian culture and history references too which is cool. It's just that the writing in the routes are pretty weak outside of Yang's route. The main 'plot' point involving Lili is terrible and I don't know why they're bringing it back for the sequel XD Don't ask me why I think Yang's route is great, we'll be here all day. Write me off as a simp, that's totally fair. In spite of my complaints, this thing has taken over my life so I guess it had the last laugh.

4. Nameless: the one thing you must recall - underrated! this is a really good game IMO. It's like toy story...but the dolls become sexy human love interests XD what's not to like? You got dolls who were traumatised by bad owners, you got a Buzz Lightyear guy who wants to be a hero, you got dolls who were mass-produced so they feel like they don't have a unique identity, dolls who were abandoned. It's great! Trauma! Trauma everywhere!

5: Nightshade (For Hanzo and Goemon) this game...has very questionable choices. I saw someone saying to stay away from it due to MC's age (16) because the age gaps are uncomfortable and one LI being her cousin but decided to check it out. Ultimately I'm glad I did. It's not the best game ever by any means. MC is pretty useless outside of Hanzo's route (there she's a friggin badass) the writing is a little clunky and feels more like a road trip story than an epic quest, but I found myself really enjoying Goemon and Hanzo's routes, provided you just mentally age MC up. (The age gaps would have been fine if MC was 20 but noooo)

6: Amnesia Memories (idk why but I'll be more likely to replay this one out of a lot of otomes. It's just very easy to play.)

7: Olympia Soiree (I love Akaza and Yosuga but the topics covered in the world are too depressing and bog the game down. It clashes a LOT with the game's style and presentation imo. I understand they're there for world-building and yes these are heavy topics that happen irl but almost every conversation with a LI will bring up discrimination, rape or 'traditional' roles for women and its just depressing and disheartening after a while bc none of it can be solved. I think the presentation in-game being overly bright and cute with soft colours doesn't fit the subject matter. Granted watching characters rebel against such an unfair class system could be inspiring, and sometimes its hopeful, but more often than not it feels like an info dump of misery. The romance also just didn't work for me for Riku, Himuka and Tokisada (and a scene with Yosuga felt very OOC) so yeah...this one was kind of overhyped to me. But the art is gorgeous. Akaza's route saved this game for me.

8. Hatoful Boyfriend - its fun but then wacks you over the head with that unexpectedly dramatic ending. Yeah it might be a meme choice, like woah! you date BIRDS, how wacky!! but if you actually play it, I'd argue the writing is pretty solid in making you care and FEEL something for these dumb bird photos.

9. Mystic Messenger - Mystic Messenger kind of saved me?? wow that's sad to say out loud XD I lived alone when I played this game, grieving and very lonely. Getting fake calls from fake boyfriends actually helped cheer me up during that time so it has a special place in my heart for that. Is it a good game? Well, I like it but I can't give an honest opinion since I last played it a long while ago and recent friends said they didn't like it that much, hence it being lower on the objective picks.

10. Cinderella Phenomenon - for a free game this is pretty good stuff imo, I like that MC has a lot of character development.

For Cafe Enchante- I loved the style and presentation and the found family feels but I couldn't latch onto any LI (I did with Ignis but then...that scene happened. You know the one if you've played) I actually find the side characters more interesting/hotter than the main cast haha add to that a TERRIBLE ending and this game is just a missed opportunity to me.

Codsworth Is So Underrated, You Guys

ALTERNATE TITLE: Codsworth and the Totally Understated Mindbending Evolution of Artificial Consciousness

I find Codsworth is often the most underrated of the 16 companions in Fallout 4. Your faithful robot butler is among the very first you can recruit and an excellent early-game ally, but he has a few disadvantages in gameplay that mean he’s often sent back to Sanctuary before long. Codsworth is a mid-to-close range fighter only, cannot wear armor or be equipped with weapons. He cannot be healed by stimpak, which makes him a liability if you’re playing on Survival mode. He has no companion quest of his own, so unless you particularly enjoy him there’s not a compelling reason to keep him for a long time. He also becomes recruitable exactly 2 minutes after adorable puppy Best Boy Dogmeat, so he is often (understandably) replaced just as soon as he’s made available.

But there is this great, completely understated facet to Codsworth, so understated that the game does not draw attention to it in any way. And yet, it is a wonderful reflection of many of the themes of Fallout 4 and, I believe, a pretty strong indication of its thesis statement.

Now what in the hell am I talking about?

Like many sci-fi/fantasy universes, the Fallout series is home to many highly-advanced robots. Robots were commonplace before the Great War, and many have survived the bombs intact and in working order. Others have been built or modified by wastelanders to serve various tasks (Percy, Ada.) The most important thing to understand about robots, though, is though they may have vivid personalities programmed in, they are widely accepted to be objects. They are thought of the same way as an appliance, a machine built for a specific purpose and programmed to follow a strict set of protocols.

Many jokes revolve around the relatively rigid intelligence of robots. Pre-War, many were deployed in inappropriate jobs or designed haphazardly (Mister Handies acting as nurses in a hospital, “paramedic” Protectrons with massive deadly tasers for hands, military robots constantly going haywire and erupting in friendly fire.) Others continue to man businesses and play out daily tasks as they were programmed to do over 200 years ago. Most robots are incapable of understanding anything beyond their initial programming, and most pre-War robots are completely unaware that the Great War ever happened.

When the Sole Survivor reunites with Codsworth at the ruins of their home, it seems like he, too, doesn’t understand what’s going on. He talks about tending the (dead) garden, references the (ghoulified) neighbors, and generally acts like the chipper robot butler Sole left behind on their way to Vault 111.

But there is something slightly… off in Codsworth’s dialogue here. Though he acts like the war never happened, he also specifically mentions details that suggest it did:

Player Default: Codsworth! You're still... fully operational?

Codsworth: {Defiant} Well of course, mum. You can thank the fine engineers at General Atomics for that! At least, you could have. Had they not been... vaporized.

A bit over 210 actually, mum. Give or take a little for the Earth's rotation and some minor dings to the ole' chronometer. That means you're two centuries late for dinner! Ha ha ha. Perhaps I can whip you up a snack? You must be famished.

You've no idea the desperation for human contact one develops over 200 years. {Upset, recalling bad memories of encountering raiders and scavengers. / Disgust} And when you do encounter them? Oh the cruelty! You're either... target practice or... spare parts!

Even stranger, Codsworth mentions details that are plainly made-up (or some kind of delusion):

Codsworth: It's been ages since we've had a proper family activity. Checkers. Or perhaps charades. Shaun does so love that game. Is the lad... with you...?

Player Default: Codsworth... listen to me carefully... have you seen him? Have you seen Shaun?

Codsworth: Why, sir had him last, remember? Perhaps he's gone to the Parker residence to arrange a play-date?

(Shaun is an infant. He is too young to play charades or to go to the neighbors for a play-date.)

So at once, Codsworth does and does not acknowledge the war. He does and does not seem to understand what’s happened, and he does and does not seem to follow Sole’s urgency regarding their spouse’s death and Shaun’s kidnapping.

And then, after a speech check, Codsworth finally snaps and breaks down sobbing in despair. Not only does he understand that the war happened, he has developed the ability to get depressed about it. Longing for human contact and with nothing else to do, he’s even developed coping mechanisms to help him try to deal with his loneliness and despair—futilely trying to do his chores and deluding himself into pretending everything is completely normal.

Wait a minute. Sobbing? Despair? Depression? Coping mechanisms and delusions? This Is all pretty sophisticated stuff to be programmed into a robot, and if you spend more time with Codsworth, the reality of what’s happened to him becomes apparent:

Codsworth has evolved beyond his programming. In his 210 lonely years of existence, he has developed emotional reactions and self-awareness far beyond that of most other robots, and, indeed, has basically evolved an artificial consciousness.

“Emergent intelligence” is the theoretical ability of an AI to eventually develop something resembling human thought processes, and it seems that our dear Codsworth has undergone this. Traveling with him, he displays many sophisticated thoughts and behaviors far beyond what most robots are shown to be capable of. He has memories of pre-War time and places, and understands how various locations have changed. He is capable of learning new information and forming opinions on it, gaining his own understanding of the people and factions in the Commonwealth. He can feel happiness, sorrow, fear, disgust. He can anticipate things, predict danger and imagine how people might respond to your actions. The mere he fact he has opinions and a moral code that he applies to you shows he has free will, something even other robot companions don’t (Ada has a personality, but absolutely does not care about your actions.)

He’s also smart enough to make many wry observational jokes, and to lay one hell of a sick burn on you:

{Joking - Found an old bowling alley. / Amused} Fancy a game, mum? Something tells me the bumpers are no longer available.

Codsworth’s intelligence is even more sophisticated than that. He displays stunning self-awareness, frequently referencing the fact he is a robot and what that means. He is very proud of his background as General Atomics’ finest, and seems pleased with his robot nature and his lot in life. (Unlike Curie, I don’t think Codsworth would ever really want to gain a synth body. He seems quite happy as he is.)

Here he is making reference to still feeling the tug of his programming:

{Seeing an office with chairs arranged in a circle. / Neutral} I've the most incredible urge to rearrange those chairs in a more perfect circle.

Understanding when other robots are restricted by theirs:

A pity. It appears Deezer's programming is too severe to allow for normal conversation. Ah well.

And when they’re actually not:

Codsworth: Greetings, sir. Good to see another robot in town. That chef hat becomes you.

Takahashi: Nan-ni shimasho-ka?

Codsworth: Takahashi you say? I'm Codsworth, a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

Takahashi: Nan-ni shimasho-ka?

Codsworth: Is that so? Well, we both know RobCo is no General Atomics. It's not surprising it failed, shoddy work and all. {Friendly - trying to cheer up another robot. / Friendly} Chin up, though. Never know when parts may turn up.

And here’s Galaxy Brain Codsworth ruminating on his own state of being and contemplating his nature:

{Disappointed that he can't be 100% human sometimes. / Sad} It's unfortunate that I lack the proper design to consume liquids. Something about camaraderie over a few drinks is very inviting.

I suppose if I had the hardware, I'd have the software as well. I'd hate to see how that'd affect my honesty and manner settings.

{Reconsidering what he thought was a good idea. / Thinking} Indeed. Perhaps I should rethink my initial desire.

Hilariously, Codsworth does not seem fully aware of how remarkable his intelligence is. He occasionally says things like “if I had feelings” and “if I could feel things,” indicating that in some ways he still believes he is only a robot and defines himself by what a robot is and does.

But as we can see, our humble robot butler has essentially evolved to become the smartest, most emotionally intelligent and person-like robot in the Commonwealth*, and potentially in the series.

([SIDE NOTE: Other FO4 robots nearing Codsworth’s level of consciousness and developed personality include Captain Ironsides, KLE-O, Whitechapel Charlie, and perhaps Takahashi. Curie is close, but also receives the unfair advantage of being uploaded into a synth body with a human brain. Jezebel also functions off of a human brain. Nick is not a robot, he’s a synth (though he does jokingly refer to himself as one) and also has the advantage of a human brain encoded on his processor.])

Also hilariously, the game basically does not acknowledge Codsworth’s impressive evolution. At all. There is absolutely no direct mention of it in the script. It is all left to ambient dialogue and the player’s own observations. And because so many people overlook Codsworth as a companion, they may not even realize exactly how unique his expanded consciousness is.

Now, you might call this total lack of mention a mistake, an oversight on Bethesda’s part, or that old chestnut “bad writing.” I don’t think it is. I think it’s a deliciously subtle little detail to include in a story about humanity, machines, artificial intelligence, and what makes a person.

Many of the themes of FO4 revolve around synths—distinctly not robots, but androids, artificially created beings with fully organic human bodies. Most of the storyline factions have strong beliefs about synths and the relative humanity thereof. The Institute believes that synths are objects, tools, machines no different from a robot who are only simulating their personalities through programming. The Brotherhood believes synths are monstrous abominations, a danger to humanity itself, technology run amok which needs to be destroyed. The Railroad believes they are people. Not humans, but people, built instead of born, free-thinking beings that deserve to be treated with respect and given rights.

Through quests, dialogue, notes, worldbuilding and other venues, players explore these questions. What makes someone a person? Hey guys, I was having thoughts on the meta-side of the Dream SMP. Okay, so we know that Technoblade has done much of the scripting for this present arc, Tommy, Dream and Quackity have also done some in collaboration, presumably doing each of their own characters and motivations, and Tubbo and Fundy have also been involved too. Uh, this will be rambly as it’s a lot of unsorted observations.

Obviously these are my thoughts, and ideas purely based on my observations as a viewer but you can definitely tell that they’re all very aware of the fanbase and are likely very influenced by them. I could see this even in the Pogtopia arc where Tommy started reusing phrases before when debating ethics with Wilbur, eg ‘let’s lose as winners, not win as losers.’ or something along those lines and how Techno made a callback to his only universal language is violence speech in his wither monologue.

But wow, the scripting is definitely becoming a lot more obvious in this new season of the SMP. Not a bad thing at all, by the way, it’s just a difference. Clearly they’ve gotten more detailed plans and are more ambitious with what they convey in minecraft, with more players taking inspiration from Wilbur after how well he executed it. It’s also the difference in how the various people write, I’m sure.

Tommy and Tubbo have streamed the SMP for the longest and have very gradually evolved into the roleplaying and their respective approaches to it are very interesting. Tubbo’s streams are typically chill and usually involve him working on some sort of project - he’s very chaotic when with other people but is usually very reactionary when it comes to the roleplaying - doing most of his best stuff when bouncing off Tommy, or occasionally Quackity. On his own he doesn’t like to lead bits but is among the best at making other people’s bits work. Same with the RP! His character’s in a weird spot right now as the other writer’s seem to be writing him in quite an unflattering way and he doesn’t do solo, emotional performances all that much meaning he’s less sympathetic right now then he really should be. Like, Tommy garnered loads of sympathy during his exile as he gave a very expressive performance where Tubbo’s character also presumably feels very isolated and alone and he’s being manipulated by the people around him but he gives a lot less. This has made it easier for the audience to start siding more with Technoblade, the literal mass-murderer, over the traumatised kid who was manipulated into exiling his best friend and continues to face terrible choices with no good options.

While I can of course make less meta theories on why Tubbo should be appreciated more and what it says he’s got no real support and is compartmentalising his problems, in the end it’s how his streams work. Tubbo does plot related streams, and he does streams where he simply vibes - and even in the serious streams, he can joke around and cheerfully lampshade the goofiness by doing things like joking about wanting a good review from Techno while kidnapping him - that stuff is priceless and does not fit into the melodramtic scripts but it adds so much to the SMP and why it is so much fun to watch. Tubbo’s really good at making content better! He’s not afraid to look ridiculous, he will also unapologetically avoid engaging in too much melodrama himself when he doesn’t feel like it. I consider his character highly underrated in the plot right now.

Tommy knows what he’s doing. Even before the roleplaying really took off, Tommy liked to play a character and lead bits and the SMP shifting in a more scripted direction suited him exceptionally well. Tommy focuses heavily on streams with lots of content, only rarely doing more chill stuff - especially more recently. He has always approached streams with a plan - but usually their extremely loose and he has said that he’d sometimes just come up with an idea 10 minutes before the stream and improvise from there. Tommy’s good at improvising and seems to work best with a very loose plan. Where I think Techno likely came up with the plan for Tommy to get exiled from L’Manburg and then join forces with him, Tommy likely filled in how to play his character and - wow.

Tommy’s writing seems to be incredibly simple - each exile stream had no major plot points or anything and the plans that are there don’t even make logical sense (let’s throw a party in one day and let’s invite everyone but have Dream not send out the invitations so no one shows up - and I’m going to do this even with Philza and Fundy literally in the call.) but Tommy pulled every one of them off very well and proved to be compelling enough that no one cared at all whether the plot made sense nor did Tommy make much effort to justify that sort of thing - ‘cause he knows how the SMP works and how much the audience will go along with it. And instead, Tommy focused entirely on his characterisation and spent all his time exploring it. That’s how Tommy works - very simple plans, then improv in character into an engaging bit. He’s managed to pull off the most ridiculous things like that, and has confidence that the other streamers will support it - that’s how he’s prepared to try insane things like pretending to be Clarencio the llama. And, like Tubbo, he’s always willing to throw for content.

Then there’s Technoblade. He’s streamed the SMP a lot less - though he’s done so much more recently - but he’s spent a lot more time playing on the SMP, doing tons of grinding. He here for the RP but is also committed to playing the game itself very optimally. He seems to have a much larger view, taking in the bigger picture, of the story where Tommy has a very personal view. His approach to content is all about the fanservice.

He’s always trying to create big epic, moments, that both look and sound awesome. Like the butcher’s army plotline which let him both seem like an underdog, a victim against a mean group, and also an incredible badass figure who outplayed them all and came out as victorious. The butcher’s army were really given an antagonists role there, and were really made to seem unlikeable. Then he met up with fan-favourite Tommy and suggested a team-up with him. (This is also leading to the ultimate fanservice that is the Sleepybois team-up.) Techno’s got a very, dry self-aware sens of humour too and he’ll often make simple meta observations about the SMP - like noting that the pacing’s fast or teasing in the chat in the middle of wars. He’s also made himself into a bit of a meme what with logging just to say his name and leave.

I don’t know how much it’s just Techno of course, but the plot really seems to be heading in a direction that suggesting that Technoblade was Right. L’Manburg’s seeming corrupt, and Tommy is being seen as Theseus. At the time Techno first made the Theseus speech, I felt like the comparison seemed unfair - but now it’s like the plot itself has bent over to make the comparison make sense, and Techno’s one of the writers of the script. Techno also of course, prepared a vault to show Tommy so he could say ‘welcome home Theseus dramatically - total fanservice as fans were indeed talking about how cool saying a line would be, and then he absolutely did. The way Techno calls his viewers chatting as the voices in his head is also fanservice. It’s not like actually true, as Techno ignores the chat if they tell him information his character doesn’t know and meanwhile all the streamers interact with their chat too - so all chats have always been a part of the story and calling them canon is absolutely meaningless. Not a bad thing though - it is nice and makes the fans happy and makes them feel included. I don’t know if this sounds critical by the way - it’s not meant as such at all - all the streamers love engaging with the fandom, and Techno’s approach to giving lots of fanservice by providing so many epic moments is great. I just wanted to highlight it.

And those were some meta thoughts on the SMP right now and its writing. I don’t really think I had a point or argument. I just wanting to make some observations and my impressions. If you’re curious I am course a Tommy fan first. I love how he’s evolved with the SMP most of all and I appreciate his character-driven storytelling. His main weakness is probably getting too into bits and going too far and it’s so nice that the SMP is a place where even his weaker ideas are supported rather than shut down. I like how he’s able to improv so well and simply how he streams. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I love Tubbo best when he’s with Tommy as they bring the best performances out of each other. I find Techno interesting as a contrast to both of them, as he approaches so many things in such a different way.
