hello i am once again thinking about grim, and by extension the heartslabyul duo because if there’s anything else that lives in my head rent-free it’s how the main four are as close as friends as they are throughout the entire game so far.

(help this ramble became longer than i intended)

-> i know it's a pattern that the previous dorms help out in the next book which means once book 7 ends, we’re assuming book 8 would be about ramshackle(?). which means it’s diasomnia’s turn to have a big role in the following dorm. -> but it got me thinking. throughout the books, heartslabyul (specifically adeuce) is always present somehow. no matter how much screen time they actually have and how relevant they are to the conflict at that time. (actually i think something similar could be said with diasomnia but i want to focus mainly on adeuce) -> throughout the books, we're just set up with how good of friends the four are. the prologue, books 1 and 2 start to develop the four's chemistry together, and by book 3 we get one of the first signs that yuu cares about these three to the point they're willing to risk it because their dumbasses decided to sign a deal with azul. -> in book 4, while adeuce didn't have much involvement, i believe twst JUST hammers home that all four of them are friends friends. we are shown how ace and deuce went through all the trouble of transportation DURING THE HOLIDAYS because they thought yuu and grim were in trouble. like they could've easily just went "hey it must have been nothing" but they were worried enough to go check on them, not even thinking that someone else could've had handled it already.

-> since the pattern was that the previous dorm helps the next dorm, why does it seem like in book 5 it seems that heartslabyul, or at least, adeuce has as much of a big role as scarabia? the scarabia duo was there to notice the signs with vil but it was deuce who dealt the last blow to him. (honestly i don't remember much but i don't know how much help scarabia even helped pomefiore other than being in vdc hhh) -> so then it made me think, huh. it's like twst is setting up that these two will be more important than we think and will definitely not be going away soon. -> and then THE END OF BOOK 6. ouughh the end of book 6. their reunion just solidified for me how much they all care about each other. adeuce were not prompted by a direct "we're in trouble, help us" text this time. they just found out yuu and grim were somewhere in danger and it agonized them that they could do nothing about it but wait and hope they're safe. -> book 7 finally we're back to finding out ways to help yuu get home. and since they're all admittedly close friends (dare i say found family) at this point without explicitly stating it, i get the vibes of "we'll help you get home because we care about you but we're not going to think about the depressing possibility we might never see each other ever again".

-> so very abrupt transition;;; this led me to thinking about the overall “alice in wonderland” theme throughout twst. -> is that why adeuce has been with us this entire time? to remind us of that theme? we are in twisted wonderland after all. (I'm not really sure about the thought of yuu being alice but it's an interesting one to consider too) -> to tie in more with the alice in wonderland theme, i'm briefly going to go back to diasomnia. in book 7, there's like a theme of dreams. in fact, throughout the game it was all about dreams and visions and stuff. and in book 7 we're just diving into it. -> and in the story of alice in wonderland, there seems to be the implication that everything that happened in wonderland was just based on a crazy dream that alice had. like we don't know if anything was ever real. (i'm not really a fan of the "it's all a dream" twist but the connections got the gears in my brain turning) (also mickey must be relevant too but i have no thoughts about the implications of his existence at the moment 💀) -> i know we're not done with diasomnia's book but it seems to be set up as a catalyst for something bigger along the line (thinking about the possibility that there is even something bigger than a malleus overblot is very wild to say the least)

-> SO ANOTHER abrupt transition but still related, i thought about the parallel between the "overblot grim" in the beginning of the game and the "jabberwock(y)" in alice in wonderland. they're both chimera-like creatures that are like the final bosses or something. -> and what if a way for yuu to "go home" is to "slay" the jabberwocky (or in this case the overblot grim) just like in the story of alice in wonderland / through the looking glass. -> there's theories i believe that ace is set up to be some kind of "trump card" based on his name and the fact his unique magic isn't revealed yet. but also i want to add deuce in there too remembering how he held a big role in stopping vil in book 4 like some kind of foreshadowing. -> maybe the main role diasomnia will have is only about all these dream shenanigans. and i'd like to think instead that at the end of the day, this conflict with an overblotted grim is ultimately between our main four. some representations based off alice in wonderland. -> going full circle, is this why we have been shown so much of the friendship between all four of them? to establish this possible eventual conflict? and to make it harder for us to choose about "going home"? do we even get the choice?

do we "slay" the jabberwocky or will we decide to stay in this seemingly dreamlike fantasy wonderland instead?

Goofy little question, but how would the ROs react to being gifted a plant by an mc with a green thumb? Who would be the best at caring for it/kill it the fastest?

Atlas: Is incredibly confident that he’ll keep it alive, ends up forgetting about it entirely and panics when he finds it dead, accidentally freezing it over in the attempt to fix it. Comes to MC a few days later totally embarrassed, and reluctantly asks for help on how to keep the next one alive.

Puck: Keeps it alive and very well, positions it perfectly within their apartment to get the most sun possible and even gets higher quality soil. They name it, bring it up often almost to brag about keeping it alive, and take great interest in MC’s green thumb and their garden interest. Want to learn about MC’s expertise and asks if they can take care of more.

Skye: Gets really excited about it at first and does a very good job at keeping an eye on it, but one day just forgets she was given it and only remembers when someone reminds her and it’s too late. She gets a new plant for MC as an apology but begs them not to let her plant-sit again.

Reese: At first veryyy resistant to receiving it, basically finding it to be more trouble than it’s worth and warns MC that under his care, it’s more likely to burn than live long. Surprisingly though, he takes incredibly good care of the plant to the best of his ability, it looking a little rough but still healthy, despite his warnings.

Ok so I just finished rewatching eclipse lake and I just realized something

When I first watched the episode, I wasn’t too sure what to make of this. When Belos said that the Titan had big plans for hunter, I assumed that meant that he was planning to sacrifice hunter in the name of the Titan, and therefore he had to keep him intact for now. Then hollow minds happened and it became clear that Belos didn’t really care what happened to hunter. So maybe hunter is right that Belos was punishing him for what happened with the parlismen.

Then Thanks to Them aired.

We get more context for what it was like in the emperor’s coven. Hunter wasn’t allowed the other scouts; the only time he gets to interact with anyone other than Belos is during his missions.

In the time between Hunting Palismen and Eclipse Lake, I think it’s reasonable that at least two weeks have passed. In Eda's Requiem, there had to have been at least a week where Luz and King were training for the race. In Knock Knock Knockin' on Hooty's Door, it had to have been a week at least since King sent out the message to the Titan Trappers at the end of Eda's Requiem (I'm estimating a week because of the events in Labyrinth Runners, where Luz had been out of school for a week while she was travelling with King to visit the Titan Hunters. Kind of a stretch, but I'm imagining that on boat, it takes a week to reach the Titan Trappers from the Owl House). That's potentially two missions Hunter had missed--two weekends where he had to remain in the castle, by Belos' side. And there's no doubt there would have been more time Hunter would have been forbidden from missions, had he not snuck out to beat Kikimora to the Titan blood.

Belos didn't just keep Hunter from leading missions because he was frustrated in his abilities (or even that the Titan had "big plans" for him)--Belos kept him in the castle because he needed to keep Hunter under his control. It's another abuse tactic he used to alienate Hunter from the real world. By blocking Hunter from missions, Hunter has seemingly no choice but get closer to Belos.

(It's sad to think that Hunter is the predecessor to the grimwalker that Darius was close with. I wonder if Hunter was isolated and monitored as closely as he was because Belos was trying to repeat the same mistakes he had made with the previous iteration of his clone brother.)

I just think it's super fucking cool how everything in this show paint Philip in a worse and worse light. I hope he has a very die <3

one of these days i'm going to write up all that i've changed from azzarello's bullshit era and the one (1) piece i've kept from milligan (and also changed) and the only thing currently stopping me is that it is going to be so, so inside-baseball incomprehensible. and i almost never want to go reading/screencapping azzarello and milligan to add references but i Want to add references.

Punkflower Playlist Title Workshopping 🎧✨

Phase 2 of my playlist making process has begun, sorting into bins. Things will really pick up since I have a sense of the timeline now.

I’ve yet to figure out a name for Act III and if I wanna do an Act IV yet. But, here’s Act I

“Swinging 5 Feet Apart” and “Just Spiders Being Men” are under consideration to make it a lil more unique—feel like the later will be more easily understood?

I anticipate this playlist being where the musical genres are the most varied, since it has quite a bit of ground narrative to cover (initial meeting, the Spider Society betrayal, Gwen, sharing fears and traumas and comforting each other).

Act II is where all plausible deniability is completely dropped and OH do Iove it.

Tbh I’m pretty satisfied with this title. Making it singular like the reference wouldn’t be accurate since they’re mutually down bad for the other…speaking of which.

Why has nobody talked about the Sunflower Remix in regards to Punkflower?? The translation, the beat? The narrative setup and payoff when the playlist finally gets to the original Sunflower, what then?

mmmm thinking about... every element having a variety of expressions. thinking about an aesthetic of handedness, w/ certain expressions of each element being sinister and others being dexter, while the "root" of it can be used with either. this is also me thinking abt the aesthetics of mages having physical signs of their magic use, that grow and deepen as they become more proficient in casting. marks on their hands and arms. this would probably be agnostic to the mage's usual dominant hand, or maybe it's even that a right-handed mage who focuses mostly on sinister magic will become left-handed over time. ambidexterity is almost as rare in magic as it is irl, since it's usually difficult to be truly equally good at both kinds.

this is working backwards from the typical positioning of the twins wrt each other but i think dexter magic tends to be predominantly active, easily weaponized, very direct. conversely sinister magic is gentler, more easily used subtly for healing or manipulation. or possibly it's the other way round! i'm thinking of it as them casting with their 'free' hand since emmet seems to generally stand to ingo's right, but the thing is they do quite a lot, maybe even most? of their gesturing with the hand closest to the other, so it might be the inverse.

i also do really like the "one giant adventuring party" idea i pitched a lil while ago bc i think that's fun. with protag as the sort of nominal party leader, who is in a sort of weird position of being a very powerful mage who has no idea how to do magic. it's immediately visible from looking at them bc both arms are covered in glowing rainbow swirls, suggesting near-perfect ambidexterity in apparently every magical class, but every time they cast a new spell they're just as surprised by it as everyone else. and their giant party of mostly mages and then 1 or 2 physical fighters (someone pls help me balance teamcomp my squad is dying) is also there trying to help them learn how to actually. do magic not by accident.
