This is a silly question/topic so feel free to take your time, mostly propelled by a need to share observations on my part XD. Whenever I see adult pro hero Deku art, I only like the ones who keep Deku's haircut or make it longer. I've tried, but I just don't like Deku with an undercut. Then I noticed something cute: I love parallels between Shigaraki and Deku, and older Deku growing his hair out would be a cute parallel to Shigaraki and Deku growing to understand him. Do you think that would look cool? Side Note: I'm a bit of a fashion critic, so I often go looking at hairstyles and outfits. In general modern men's fashion is often lacking creativity compared to previous generations. I tried looking at androgynous fashion, but often it tended to be...oddly very gendered instead. It tries to use very traditionally masculine and feminine fashion instead of creating a unique look instead. This is not meant to be offensive in any sort of way, just an observation of mine. In my experience, fashion and beauty is at it's best when you create looks that work with your body instead of against it. Then again, regardless of gender a lot of fashion fails for me because it tries to force people to fit the outfit instead of making an outfit that works with the person. Interestingly enough, that's why celebrities often look so much more amazing in outfits than common people do. They often get outfits tailor made for them, with their bodies and strengths in mind. From what I've seen as an outsider, androgynous outfits have a tendency to fall flat because they try to make the person fit the outfit/agenda instead of creating an androgynous outfit that perfectly fits whoever that person actually is. Oddly enough, this is why I don't usually like short haired Deku. He's a chaotic mess and his hair adds to the impression, giving him short hair takes some of those qualities away. Katsuki's outfit works with me for the same reason. Some people have mentioned it having some androgynous hints to it, I think it works because it compliments him as a person instead of trying to force him to be something he isn't. I was wondering what someone who is actually trans would think though, since these are just me observations as a fashion nerd. Again, none of this is meant to offend. It's just an odd observation I've made about the mistakes people make when considering fashion and beauty of any type.
I actually love the idea of deku with long hair! I honestly have for a long time. It’s sad to see close to no one who actually like, draws him that way.
I’m not super great at fashion, but I definitely agree that things just aren’t made for peoples bodies. Instead they’re made to shape them in a way that fits the beauty standard (which is why I’m also really concerned about low rise jeans coming back into fashion. Bc of ED’s)
As for my opinions of androgynous fashion, I feel like people nowadays only perceive womens clothing as, yknow, womens clothing, and mens clothing is more so seen as androgynous. It’s probably due to the uptick in women wearing cheap working clothes (jeans mostly) during the 50’s. Ww2 happened, all the men were out at war, etc etc we know all that.
So because of this pre conceived notion that everyone wears jeans, hoodies and whatever else, than THAT must be androgynous clothing. When in reality, all clothing is androgynous! Frilly pink skirts are just as androgynous as overalls or something else.
It’s also made to cover up parts of your body. Specifically breasts because people don’t actually see non binary people as non binary and more just see them as “woman lite”. People being born male and therefore having to do other things to appear more androgynous just doesn’t exist to them.
And god forbid someone with breasts where ANYTHING that shows they exist in any light. You’re called a trender or some other stupid name.
But, back to Izuku and Katsuki, I love how both of their designs fit their characters. I think the reason why Katsuki’s hair and clothes actually fit HIM is because his parents are fashion designers. He yells at deku in one of the exclusive comics for the newest movie about how he can’t add a cape to his undercover clothes lol. I think he was talking about both practicality and also just how it would look.
I think that’s also why Izuku is.. uhm, himself

Anyway, narrative aside, god I wish horikoshi would give him even the SLIGHTEST SENSE OF FASHION AND HAIR CARE
I mean I can’t say I’m much better (I’ve got the straightest of straight hair alive lmfao. My hair does absolutely nothing) but like, CMON MAN-
I wish he would just grow it out. The undercut idea people have is just absolutely horrendous imo. Please, izuku, just grow it tf out

Another design pet peeve I have with the fandom is just how burly they wanna make him, which I am just, not at all okay with. Izuku represents healing from toxic masculinity, why tf would he be the most grade A definition of “the male gaze”? He’s not allmight, his arch is literally about not being allmight. Men are ALLOWED TO BE SHORT. They are ALLOWED TO NOT LOOK VISIBLY STRONG. Another example about how people just let the male gaze and patriarchy get in the way of characters who are supposed to directly contradict that! Yay!
People will be like “oh deku should learn how to be his own hero, hero society is failing him” and then in the same breath will say that he would be burly, number 1 in the leader boards always, he’s the symbol of peace, hope, etc
IDK GUYS

“No one’s going to get cancelled — it’ll be fun.” Colin Jost smiles curtly on your flat screen TV.
You sit on the bed with a spoon hanging from your lips, an eye on the bright screen having just finished watching a rerun of Jenna’s SNL episode. You made sure to buy it as soon as it was available; locking yourself away in your room.
Currently, you are watching this week’s episode of SNL and Colin and Che are giving their weekly news update.
“Las Vegas is opening up a pop-up vaccine site in a strip club and don’t worry the strippers say the vaccine comes with singer and actress Y/N L/N. This time she’ll be the designated driver – I heard she’s on a tight leash.”
Your smile instantly drops.
“Speaking of Y/N,” Colin bounces off, reading off the cue cards. “Did you see her last week sitting in the audience during Jenna Ortega’s episode… hey, I wonder if they’re a real thing.”
Colin and Che share a knowing glance, “Nah.” They say in unison then move on to their next bit.
Scowling, you turn the TV off, practically throwing your bowl of cereal on the side table. 
You supposed you can’t be too mad – all too familiar with the snide jabs and harmless jokes from others in the industry. This is what you signed up for, right?
Whatever, you’re sure people are loving it.
It’s been a whole week since you left New York and you haven’t spoken to Jenna. It seems how you two acted back in the Big Apple was a success because it got your managers to back off, for now. You didn’t see a reason to contact the actress so you let the silence pass — you see when she posts on social media. 
You don’t have time to think about it because Coachella weekend is coming up soon. For the first time since Vegas, you will be working and you have been itching – wanting nothing more than to dive head-first into work mode. 
It’s what you do best.
You are invited to do a guest performance on a big producer’s set for the festival. It would be your first ever time performing at Coachella but you were privy to the culture of the festival, having gone as an audience member to support your musician friends.
“Hey, you got a minute?” Link pops his head in your door, holding a phone up.
“Please don’t do this.” Your pleas go underheard.
“I don’t know why you keep trying, the answer is the same Y/N.” Link rolled his eyes, pointing to a house.
“I think this is the one.”
You scan the two-story typical American home tucked away in the boroughs of suburbia up in the desert, otherwise known as Coachella Valley.
Or well, Jenna’s parent’s house at least. 
After Link had dropped the most terrible news; you had to be seen with Jenna in Coachella. Liv and Jake had instructed your team to drive you to stay with Jenna as you prepare for the festival – it was convenient they said.
Convenient my ass.
“Relax... Marcus will be back to pick you up, he’s gonna drop off your bags at the rental house.”
“Why can’t I just go with you then?” You ask.
“Liv said to drive you to this address. Jenna gave explicit directions to drive you here.”
You frown pulling on a loose thread on your sweater.
What could Jenna possibly want that she’d want you here? She looked pretty upset at you, the last time you talked.
You really don’t have it in you to fight with her, again, especially after the long drive from L.A. up to the desert where you thought — you’d be staying in your villa for Coachella weekend.
“Now go see the girl, please.” Link reaches over to open the door.
When you step out, the car is already driving speedily down the street not even giving you a chance to change your mind. You hear a flurry of voices from the side of the house but it sounds far away. Toy cars and trollies litter the grass yard. 
Slowly, you walked up her porch, your shoes scraped as you ascend the concrete steps. Hesitating for a brief moment, you realize: Jenna is inside. Well duh.  But the thought of her on the other side of the door has your heart dropping out of nowhere. You see flashes in your memory of her frown as you explain why you have to leave New York so soon.
Unspoken words as she says ‘well I thought–’
What did she think?
You would probably never know.
The door opens with a creak breaking you out of your thoughts.
“We have to stop meeting like this.” Aliyah leans against the doorframe, smiling.
You laughed, “Yeah, we do.”
She doesn’t say anything else and just yells over her shoulder, “Jenna, she’s here.”
Then walked off. 
“Hi…” Jenna appears, leaning on the doorframe with a hand.
She scans you for a brief moment; not having seen you since New York, a week ago. She had to make sure you’re still alive because she hasn’t heard from you since then.
You also practically ghosted her.
After feeling guilty about how she left things with you, Jenna sent you a text the next day, asking if you made it back to Los Angeles safely.
You liked her message with a thumbs up.
A thumbs up! Not responding would have been better, the actress bitterly thought.
“Hey.” You greet. “How are you?”
“Fine. You?” She answered quickly, smile sealed tight like an envelope.
“I’m… good. Yeah. Just working.” You answer honestly.
“Oh really?” Jenna asked.
“Yeah, something for Coachella actually.”
Jenna raised her brows in surprise. “Like what?”
You send a tight-lipped smile, “It’s a surprise. People don’t know I’m here yet.”
Jenna can’t fight her excitement; giddy about being in on a secret. But then she remembers that she’s supposed to be annoyed at you and not fascinated.
“Why haven’t you texted me?” Jenna sighed, her voice dropping to a lowly whisper, in case someone was walking by.
You raised your brows, surprised by her question. “Oh… um. I’ve been busy like I said, just working, trying to keep my head down and all that.”
“Are you sure that’s it?” She asked accusingly.
You missed her tone and shrugged, reassuring her, “Yeah. Of course.”
“But, I heard you were busy this week too, filming another movie with Barry Keoghan and The Weeknd?” You changed the subject, hoping to talk about something else. She takes the bait after scanning your eyes for a second.
“Yeah, it was just a short role. But it was a lot of fun. Abel actually talked about you.”
“That’s great, I’m happy for you Jen… and yeah he’s an old friend.”
“Sung your praises pretty high, I had to make sure he was talking about the right person.”
You chuckle, “Oh okay, I see how it is.”
Your laugh caused a sudden warmness to manifest in Jenna and she couldn't help but join along. “Come on, my family has been dying to see you again.”
“Really?” You asked, stepping inside her childhood home. “So you think I made a good impression?”
She turned to look back at you, surprised that you care. “Maybe… don’t let it get to your head, though.”
You laughed as you followed her through the house. “Is that jealousy I hear Ortega? Scared you won't be the only movie star around?”
She snorted, rolling her eyes. “Shut up. You’re an idiot.”
“An idiot that may have impressed your family?” You cocked your head and grinned wide.
“Yeah, yeah. Like, I said. Don’t let it get to your head. They could care less about celebrities and Hollywood. They’re pretty grounded.”
You shrugged, looking at the various family pictures hanging on the wall. “It’s fine. There’s only one Ortega I want to impress anyway.”
You’re not sure where that came from and it seemed Jenna shared the same thought because she raised her brows at you – but didn’t comment.
Jenna blocks you from walking when you reached the sliding glass door. “What?”
Jenna chewed her lip anxiously, “My family can be a lot. In numbers and in the other sense too. There’s a lot of us.”
“Oh… that’s okay.” You answered. A bit confused as to why she is telling you this. When you see her genuine concern your gaze softens. “Jenna, relax. I can handle the family… and I can charm anyone’s socks off.”
She relented, rolling her eyes at your joke. “Okay, okay.”
"Wait..."
Jenna turns around.
"Why am I here exactly? At your parents, that is. Link told me that you gave my driver instructions to bring me here."
Jenna bites her lip in contemplation. "Um—like I said my family wanted to see you again and I heard you were going to Coachella anyway so you know, two birds one stone."
You nod, accepting her answer.
Jenna opens the door for you two to step out.
Sounds of laughter rang around as you and Jenna sat in lawn chairs in her parent’s backyard.
“What are Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya like in real life?” Markus – Jenna’s brother leaned forward to ask. 
“Markus!” Jenna scolded and threw her brother a glare.
The actress blushed as she sat beside you but all she felt was the vibrations of your laughter, indulging her brother’s question. 
Jenna can’t help but wonder if you have other family members that spend time with you like this. You look so carefree and genuinely happy; comfortable around her family — after knowing you for a couple months now; she guesses it’s a no.
“They’re cool. Just like everyone else to be honest. Especially, Timothee, sweet guy but he’s a bit of a typical frat bro.” You joked, “And Zendaya, well. She’s just as amazing as everyone says she is. Great work ethic, it’s inspiring when you work with someone passionate like that – makes you want to be better and work harder.”
Jenna’s sisters are eating your story up. Secretly she knew they enjoyed the tales of celebrities and pop culture. It’s nearly impossible to live your life without seeing a public figure pop up on an ad on your phone or on the side of a bus stop on your drive home. 
Jenna is barely home enough to be able to have moments like this where she can humour her sister's questions. But they all had their own lives to live. She's has been looking forward to this break for a while, knowing it was coming up after her long week in New York.
She still can’t describe New York.
Something seems to have shifted between you two by the end of the week. But she didn’t know if it was for the better. The two of you have this constant push and pull; where everything is fine one moment, then one of you says something and it turns tense and weird as you both stay silent or you just completely blow up on each other.
Jenna didn’t know if she had it in her to try to decipher what these restrained responses she gets from you could possibly mean.
You are an enigma; a defensive, hot-headed asshole that grinded every gear the actress had.
“Do you like Zendaya, buddy?” You bounced her niece in your lap, enjoying how the baby grabbed at your fingers. 
But then Jenna turns around and you act like this. Sweet, protective, charming. 
How are you the same person?
She can’t fight her smile as she watched the adorable sight.
Jenna didn’t know you were good with babies. 
“I think Z would think you’re just the most adorable thing. Oh my god, Jen, can I send her a picture of us?” You turned to her, with a bright smile.
Jenna didn’t know when you started calling her by her nickname but she certainly won’t say how she enjoys how it sounds when you say it. “Uh–sure, if it’s okay with my sister.”
“Zendaya’s gonna have a picture of my baby on her phone? Uh yes!”
Jenna laughed, nodding. “I’ll take the picture.” She took your phone, opening the camera.
“What are you doing? Get in here with us." You asked with an adorable scrunch in the nose, surprising Jenna.
“Oh, I just thought— okay.” She swallows her growing grin, sliding in beside you.
Her sisters share knowing glances.
You happily scooted in, pressing your chest to her back.
Jenna is suddenly reminded of her you and her, alone in her dressing room.
She presses back into you. 
“Say, cheese guys!” Jenna clears her throat.
With big bright smiles, you placed your head above her shoulder to get in the frame, repeating, “Cheese!”
Even her niece seemed to be enjoying the attention as she smiled brightly and toothless while standing on your lap with her chubby legs. Jenna snapped a couple for good measure, checking over the pictures. The three of you are squished together as she held it in portrait; you all looked cute Jenna can admit. 
Like a little family.
What?
“Oh Jenna, send me that, please. I want to post it on my Instagram.” Her mom spoke up already reaching for her phone. 
“Okay, okay.” Jenna rolled her eyes but sent herself the pictures first before airdropping them to – everyone – who begged for it. 
“This is adorable, I think I’m gonna make this my lock screen.” You grinned, staring at the photo. She sees you typing a message, indeed sending it to the actress like you said you would. “Just for your niece.”
Jenna felt her heart skip a beat. “Are you saying you’re gonna crop me out the photo?”
“No… but now that’s a good idea, thanks.” You mocked with a smile.
“Mom, how did you already post that picture so fast?” Mia asked.
“Don’t be mad.” Jenna begged.
“Mad? Jenna. This isn’t what I signed up for.” You pinched the bridge of your nose.
The two of you were standing in her driveway, in a discord of course. Jenna just forced you into another situation that you wanted no part of.
“You just told Link to call off my driver and now you’re saying don’t be mad. Of course, I’m mad! Why did you say yes to your Mom, Jenna.” You sighed, dropping your hand limply.
“I didn’t know she’d insist.” She groaned walking closer, “She said that you shouldn’t stay in that big house by yourself for the weekend when there is room here, next thing I know she’s forcing me to ask you in front of everybody.”
"I'm sorry." She grabs your arm. “Link said you might be mad.”
You stare at her for a couple of moments. Their hearts are in the right place, you guessed. Eventually, you rolled your eyes and sighed. “Thank you I guess… I appreciate that the sentiment.”
Jenna smiled in relief, “Yeah, of course.” Then scrunched her nose in thought.  “We actually really don’t have the room so I don’t know where she’ll put you.”
She should have known. This is so typical and cliche; sharing a bed trope? Please, can the universe be any more unoriginal? 
“Mom, are you sure?” Jenna whispered as she peaked her head out the small awning of the door – making sure you can’t hear. 
“Jen, go to sleep. We have a packed day tomorrow. Everyone’s coming over for the game.”
Tomorrow is sports night and her uncles, aunts, cousins and grandparents are set to come over. It was a weekly tradition for the extended family to host a gathering to watch the game every Friday; with Jenna’s busy schedule, she hasn’t been to one in months. She’s grateful this one is hosted at her house but then inwardly sighed because she should probably warn you about that too.
“Mom…” She pleaded in a whisper.
“Goodnight and be responsible. I trust you two.”
“Mom!”
Jenna dropped her head in defeat as she listened to her Mom’s footsteps dwindle further away. 
“Hey, you should probably get in there before all the hot water runs out..”
She turns, seeing your freshly showered figure. For a moment, Jenna finds herself stuck. You’re rubbing a towel on your wet hair as grey sweats hung lowly on your hips and she was desperately trying to avert her eyes from the small patch of you skin exposed.
“I already showered.”
“Oh okay.” You shrugged walking over to grab your phone. 
“Which side do you prefer?” You asked absentmindedly,
“What?” Jenna blinks away.
“Of the bed. Which side do you prefer?” 
“Oh. The left.”
“Thank god. Every bed I’ve had to share I’ve had to fight for the right side. You’re perfect.” 
Jenna watched as you jump into your preferred side, getting comfortable under her covers.
She doesn’t know why she feels a mismatched thump fall out of rhythm with her heartbeat at seeing you in her bed. 
“Alright, are you gonna be weird about sharing a bed? ‘Cause I can just take the couch or call my driver to pick me up. I can get a hotel room or something.” You sighed sitting up. 
Jenna furrowed her brows, “What no. Can you please stop jumping to conclusions?”
“I’m not.” You mumbled but don’t argue further. Jenna gets in beside you. 
“You satisfied now?” She throws out but it sounds just shy of playful and maybe even flirtatious – definitely not how she meant for it to sound.
“Uh– sure.” You replied sliding the blanket up to your chin as you tried to get comfortable again.
There’s that weird tension again, Jenna thinks and she thinks it’s starting to annoy her.
“Okay, what’s your deal?” Jenna crossed her arms, turning to you.
You blinked, confused. “What?”
“Why are you being so weird?”
“I’m not.” You sat up to face the other actress.
Jenna frowned, “Yes you are. You have been since New York. Did I do something? Because you still haven’t told me why you just left town like that.”
“I told you. Jake wanted me back for Coachella. Why else would I have just left all of a sudden?” You explained.
“I just– I just feel like you’re not telling me something.” She admits, a bit insecure. “I, at least, thought we’re friends now and when I didn’t see you in the crowd or the dressing room after SNL I was a bit… disappointed? I don't know if it’s dumb but you really did calm me down before my monologue and I wanted to thank you over dinner. But, yeah–” 
Jenna looks away, missing your guilty frown. “Jenna… it’s not dumb. God, I feel like an asshole.”
“Well, sometimes you can be.”
You laugh but it’s dry. “I’m so sorry. I–I should have been there.”
You grab her hands. “Look at me, please.” It gets her to look up, the light from the lamp is bouncing off your eyes making them look softer in the dim light. “I promise, I’ll always be there for the important moments from now on. Before, during and after – we are stuck together until the foreseeable future, so.”
Jenna snorts, looking down at your hands. You begin to rub lines with your fingers on her open palm making her shiver. “Yeah, I guess we are.” She whispers.
She doesn’t know when she makes the bold move to intertwine your fingers. But for the first time since SNL, you two hold hands and this time you don’t pull away. But she doesn’t miss the questioning glint in your eyes as you look down. Jenna ignores the attention and squeezes your hand to make you look at her again.
“You mean it though?”
Your eyes soften. “I mean it.”
“Where’s Y/N?” Mia asked over the breakfast table.
“Rehearsals,” Jenna mumbled sleepily shoving spoonfuls of food in her dry mouth – still trying to wake up.
When the actress had awakened, the sun was high above the horizon and the desert heat was already inching inside her cracked window. But she woke up, alone.
Differing from how she went to sleep the previous night with you barely pressed up beside her as you laid with your backs to each other. Jenna only found herself un-tensing after hearing your breathing fall into short even exhales.
When she turned over to grab her phone this morning, you had sent a text:
Sorry for not waking you up. You sleep like a rock but I had to go to rehearsals. I’ll be back by 3 :)
She couldn’t be too annoyed at the smiley face you leave with your occasional messages.
“She’s performing?” Mia asks shocked.
Jenna nods, too tired for words.
“The crowd is gonna lose their minds.” Aliyah laughs. “With who?”
“Won’t say.” Jenna muttered bitterly, thinking back to her incessant begging; you never caved.
“Okay… can we talk about it, now then?”
“Talk about what Mia,” Jenna sighs dropping her fork on her plate.
“You and Y/N.” She says like it’s obvious.
“There is no me and Y/N, it’s all for the cameras. Remember the NDA I had to beg you guys to sign?” The actress rolls her eyes. 
“Then why were you so upset after New York?” She challenges; tired of her sister’s silence over this whole situation. There’s no way she’s just unaffected by this.
“Mia drop it.” Her mom says.
“No. I’m serious, she’s literally staying under our roof, sharing a room with Jenna. And no one is still saying anything? Am I the only one who thinks there’s something going on?”
“Yes.” Jenna says quickly.
Mia rolls her eyes, “You still haven’t answered my question, Jen.”
Jenna crosses her arms, sitting up. “Of course I was upset. She just left town without a warning, if we didn’t catch her in the lobby she was just gonna a send a text. A text! Anyone would be upset at that — but it doesn’t mean what you think it means.”
But her sister doesn’t buy it. She opens her mouth to refute but their Dad swoops in saving the day. “Leave your sister alone, Mia. I’m sure whatever is going on with Y/N and Jenna – they can figure it out themselves.”
Jenna groans, “Dad, not helping.”
He shrugs, sitting at the head of the table with his own plate of breakfast.
Eventually, her family scatters to their own corners of the house to get ready for the day. Her other family members would be arriving soon and the actress had to start getting ready. Crap, she forgot to warn you about game night because you left so early. Jenna decides she’ll send you a text after she gets out of the shower.
With the raucous of the day, Jenna forgets to send the text. Her cousins arrived much earlier than anticipated and she was already getting pulled out to living room to talk about her upcoming projects. She gets so lost catching up with her cousins that she doesn’t realize when you arrive.
"Jenna, your novia is here." One of her aunts shouts making her head snap up to you as the front door opens. "Oh wow, and she's brought the whole store!"
Jenna's jaw drops as you walk in, holding multiple large bouquets of different arrangements of flowers. "Y/N?"
"Hey!" You peek your head out from the large flowers. "These are for your family... but I may have overestimated how big these were and Link refused to help me."
"Oh god, these are beautiful Y/N." Jenna's mom gets up from her seat, grabbing as many flowers as she can. "You didn't have to..."
"Oh, it's nothing, really. You guys are letting me stay here, I just wanted to express a little gratitude." You duck your head, all timid now.
Jenna knows it's not nothing. Those flowers cost a fuck ton, she would know she gets gifted those whenever she has an event.
"Well, gratitude expressed. I don't even know where to put these. Mia, Aliyah help the girl, please!"
The two sisters grab all but one smaller bouquet from your hands, walking away with smug smiles.
"Jen, get up," Aliyah whispers in passing as all the women and Jenna's dad filter over to the kitchen to view the gorgeous flowers.
She still hasn't moved from the couch and briefly, she thinks she can feel her cousin's smirking at her reaction.
"You got my family flowers?" Jenna asks dumbly, walking over slowly; ignoring everyone's eyes on them.
"Uh—yeah. Sorry if it's a bit much. I wasn't sure what everyone liked so... I got them all." You scratch your head with a bouquet in hand, catching Jenna's eye.
"These are for you..." You smile, holding out a smaller albeit more personal? flower arrangement. It felt like Jenna, somehow.
“I picked it out myself.” Your smile turns shy.
Like, if she were to walk into a flower shop and see this bouquet, she would instantly grasp it and never let go.
We still talking flowers?
"Thanks..." Jenna mumbles, grabbing the flowers; your fingertips touching sends sparks down her arm.
"Um—you're back early..." Is all she manages to say.
“Yeah… they didn’t need me for a long time so I decided to come back.” You explained, glancing at the new faces in the room. “Uh– what’s all this?”
The actress sends you a sheepish smile, “Family game night, we watch the game every Friday and cook some barbeque, it’s a whole thing. I forgot to text you, I’m sorry. You can call your driver back if this is too much.”
You laugh, squeezing her shoulder. “And miss out on great food? No, thank you.”
Jenna scans your eyes for the truth, “Are you sure? I know this isn’t exactly your scene so I understand.”
“Jen.” Your hand slides down, softly grabbing her hand. “I can’t even remember how long it’s been since the last time I had a home-cooked meal. I’m so in.”
You squeeze her hand for good measure. “Guys close the door.” Someone shouts.
Jenna doesn’t let you drop your hands this time because she’s already gripping them, pulling you to sit with her cousins – introducing you.
She ignores the giddy feeling in her chest that you want to stay.
You don’t say anything even when you’re both sitting and she’s still holding your hand.
“Who are you performing with?” Jenna tugs on your arm.
You squint to see her through your sunglasses. The Californian sun was making its presence known today and there are crowds of people everywhere as you tried to find some shade. It’s just past 6 PM and people are already starting to get rowdy – before all the good sets are even on. 
Fish nets, sparkles and bedazzles are all you see in the sea of people and you just know you’re at Coachella.
“I can’t say…” You fight the smile on your face, finding her begging adorable. “It’s supposed to be a surprise.”
“But Aliyah knows! I heard you whisper it to her.” She glares back at her sister standing a fair distance away from you two – who was talking to Mia and her boyfriend.
“I didn’t tell her anything, Jen. We were just fucking with you.” You laugh, sliding your hand in hers. 
An unspoken comfortableness has formed between you two. Light touches are a new development in this… situation Jenna had with you.
Whether it was knees touching under the dinner table, walking shoulder to shoulder on your daily walks around the neighbourhood (there wasn’t much to do as Coachella weekend approached) or leaning her head on your shoulder as she slept when you two watched TV before bed.
And now, it seems like things have escalated to a new level of comfort where you two willingly linked fingers whenever you walked anywhere. Neither of you make a peep when someone eventually reaches for the other’s hand. 
“Rude…” She pinches your side making you flinch away from her.
Jenna’s immediately tugging you back closer.
“Hey… I can’t get an injury before my performance. I’m legally binded to a contract.” You state.
Jenna snorts, “I thought you were friends with the performer? Are you really not gonna tell me who it is?”
“Nope and sure we’re friends but, I’m still contractually obligated to the festival and all that.”
“Come on Y/N!” She groaned unconsciously stepping closer to you. “I’ve been so nice to you, I haven’t called you an idiot all day!”
You laugh, “Is that supposed to win me over?”
“You tell me? Is it working?” The laugh dies in your lips when she tits her head in question.
Jenna misses the gulp you take because she was leaning closer, trying to find your eyes behind the dark-tinted glasses you had on. 
“No…” You replied with a vacant tone.
Jenna steps back when the sun blinds her eye. “You’re no fun.”
“I don’t know what to tell you… you’re gonna have to wait like everyone else.”
“Speaking of everyone else, I’m surprised we’re not surrounded by your groupies.” Jenna eyes the group of people hovering not too far away. 
You snicker, “They are not my groupies. I barely know those people but it happens at every music event. They flock over like geese. I let Link handle them.”
Jenna frowns, “Doesn’t it bother you?”
“What?” You look down.
“That you can’t even enjoy yourself at a festival without someone hovering over your shoulder.”
Since Jenna’s started this PR relationship with you her fame’s only increased overnight. She hates to say it but Sarah was right, being associated with you has only made her more famous and well-known. She felt like a Kardashian or Tom Holland who couldn’t even step out of their own homes without a camera being shoved in their faces. 
It’s getting so bad that Jenna has security with her everywhere she goes. She stopped driving herself to places. A headline even dropped that you two are official and serious now and that you have met her family; paparazzi tried to camp at her parent’s house until they called the police.
“Sometimes.” You answer honestly, shrugging. “But it’s part of the job.”
Jenna’s frown deepens, looking around. “This is not part of the job. At least not what I’ve seen.”
“Yeah, but we learn to deal with it, right?” You nudge her shoulder. Seemingly unbothered that made Jenna bothered for you.
“How?” Jenna couldn’t help her curiosity.
“Surround yourself with people that genuinely care about you. That still picks you even after all your fuck ups. Only got me about three of those, so I try to keep them close.” Then you let out a sad laugh, “I make it very hard for them sometimes, though.”
Jenna looks at Link as he holds a bored hand up when a girl tries to walk up to you. Then he’s shooing her away and whispering to both of your security guards.
She wants to fight the urge to say that you have a fourth person in your corner with her.
Instead, she says:
“I think you got a good one with him.” She nods to Link.
You follow her sight, “Yeah, I do... He’s usually right about most things too.”
“What do you mean?” She looks up in questioning.
Maybe Jenna’s not so bad? Flashes in your memory but you don’t tell Jenna. “Nothing.”
Jenna squints her eyes. “Fine… keep your secrets.” Tone a playfully bitter.
Eventually, you, Jenna and her sisters walk around aimlessly from set to set, taking pictures and enjoying the atmosphere. Jenna would be lying if she said she wasn’t enjoying herself right now. Somehow you all managed to find an empty corner by the Artist section of the performances which meant you had loosened up a bit. 
Jenna decided she liked it when you’re smiling, carefree and happy.
It suits you better than your permanent scowl. 
You’ve been so stressed this last week, taking phone calls and Zoom meetings. She tried not to express her concern at seeing how you obsessively fretted over some project, consuming you some nights. 
Jenna knows obsessive. She knows anxiety. This was different.
She finds herself with more questions than answers when it comes to you.
Why are you so closed off all the time? Is this how you work all the time? Where did this recent streak of bad behaviour start? Is there more to it than what you’re saying?
Are you okay?
But Jenna can’t find the right words to ask, so she doesn’t.
Only offering her warm pressure on top of you to hopefully lull you to sleep when you both drift off in her childhood bed.
Somewhere along the evening, she finds herself close to you.
You've loosened up as the days progressed and somehow, you and Jenna have found yourselves wrapped up in each other's arms as you danced.
Jenna had her back pressed firmly against your chest; her head tucked under your chin as your arms wrap around her waist from behind; hands linked as you jammed along to the music.
“The Met Gala’s coming up.” Jenna speaks up after a few moments of silence. “I’m invited.”
“Me too.” You reveal. She perks up, looking back at you.
“Yeah?” She smiles, pleased with your answer.
“Mhmm. I’m actually a co-chair this year.” You send an embarrassed smile.
She turns in your hold, jaw-dropping. “You are?”
“Yeah… why do you think I’ve been taking those calls all week? I was getting ready for the Met.”
“I thought that was for Coachella?” She snorts but can't help but ask, "Do you ever stop working?"
“Says you. Miss Scream Queen.” You tease making her roll her eyes.
“Be my date.” She says all of a sudden. “and walk the carpet with me this time.”
You raise your brows at her bluntness. This time?
You remember the last time she said those words and a tiny part of you prayed she meant it differently this time. But you can't fight your smile because you couldn't even say no if you wanted to — overwhelmed with the sudden want, to show off the girl in your arms. “I would love to be your date.”
Jenna's eyes sparkled with delight, beaming at you widely.
"Great! I'll talk to Enrique and Thom Browne about it."
"But I'm a Prada Ambassador?"
"I'll handle it." She nods with finality.
But before you can say anything, Link slides in with a whisper in your ear and a knowing smirk in Jenna’s direction.
“Hey, I have to go.” You whisper into her ear, pulling away but Jenna tightens her grip.
“Wait.” She steps forward – much closer than she means to.
“Yeah?” You asked softly and suddenly Jenna can’t hear the loud thumping of the bass anymore.
“Good luck and break a leg.” She says in a whisper.
Her hand reaches up to brush your neck still looking into your eyes. Jenna feels the same overwhelming pressure in her chest that she’s recently felt around you and gives into her sudden impulse; leaning in, parting her lips; meaning for them to connect to your cheek but instead swerve and slot in between your lips instead, in a moment’s haste.
She feels you tense for a moment before giving in, cupping her cheeks too. Kissing her back. Jenna loses it a bit, not expecting your lips to feel so soft and smooth and perfect against hers. Jenna can't help but tilt her head to the side, allowing your lips to press harder.
She feels the same electricity from your first meeting – when you shook her hand. The same electricity she tries to fight off every time she's near you. Except this time, it's by tenfold.
Jenna is so lost in you that she can’t even hear her heart beating loudly in her ears anymore — only feeling your thumb softly stroking her jaw.
The sound of coughing breaks you two apart.
“Sorry but Y/N we need to go.” Link sends a sheepish smile but he's trying to fight his grin at having a front-row seat to the show.
When Jenna pulls away she looks deeply into your eyes searching for some kind of indication of your feelings.
You smile shyly, squeezing her waist and rubbing her back. “I’ll find you after the show?”  
“Yeah…” Jenna whispers, still staring into your eyes.
“I’ll find you!” You yell over her shoulder as Link drags you away.
“Holy shit, finally!” Mia slides in beside her. 
Jenna doesn’t have the energy to shrug off the arm Aliyah throws over her shoulder as she brings her fingers up to her burning lips. “I don't know why I did that...”
“Oh my god, you’re an idiot. The both of you.” Mia rolls her eyes walking back to her boyfriend.
Jenna looks around, blinking, immediately catching the phones held in the air capturing her moment with you.
She walks off, following her sisters.
Unbeknownst to you and Jenna, a headline is about to drop:
New developments in Y/N L/N's Vegas case. Caught with cocaine! Las Vegas PD makes no official comments on possible charges or arrests. But is this the end for the bright star?

Mel's association with the sun is self-evident and still mostly shrouded in mystery, though her love scene with Jayce is notable, which is overlaid with starry imagery, where her silhouette and her freckled face are compared to the cosmos. The sun is also a star. It's just the star that's closest to Runeterra and has the most influence over the world.

Viktor's blue to purple pipeline is real
But seriously, the starry/swirly shapes point toward distant stars, the cosmos, a galaxy. There is no moon in Viktor's night scenes throughout the season, only stars.
Viktor's character regresses as the season goes on (blue to purple, ready to fall into Shimmer-like magenta as his corruption nears its peak).

His hubris opens him up to some kind of corruption by the Hexcore, or by whatever - or whoever - is using the Hexcore as a gateway, like what Jinx points out. Singed as his mentor plants and encourages the lie that Viktor believes, that he's better off alone and that the ends justify the means.
These perfectly ruinous circumstances lead to him getting Sky killed (Sky like sky blue, like Inspiration, lost as Viktor has lost sight of good in his pursuit of great).

In his running scene, Viktor runs not from left to right, filmspeak for progression - he runs from right to left, as though backstepping.
(And also for the Rocky Balboa reference called out in this brilliant post, but hey, I think it all works)
It's also worth laying the foundation that Viktor is a fantasy interpretation of Nikola Tesla, the Serbian-American inventor who was fascinated with electricity, radio signals, the cosmos, and [REDACTED for another post probably lol]
If you've fallen down the rabbit hole of League lore like I have, you might have picked up that peoples and warriors who are sun-worshipers are (at least anciently) tasked with hunting down and destroying Void beings, who are eldritch beings associated with the distant stars, or are Runeterrans constructed by the Void Watchers trapped between realms. The sun fights against interlopers from other dimensions or celestial bodies.
Mel and Viktor have the same ideas about risk and the nature of progress, and they are both technically foreigners living in Piltover and pursuing that progress - in two very different (but complementary) ways. They are most likely the two characters whose literal bodies are celestial, imbued with the Arcane. Their bodies are most likely augmented with magical metals.

Yet the arcane imagery that seems to accompany them respectively are diametrically opposed - Sun vs. Void, possibly. (Also, purple and yellow/gold are opposite or complement colors on the color wheel.)
Whether they wind up working together or whether they clash (as Viktor loses himself) or if it's a mix of both, I think Mel and Viktor are destined to collide in season 2.
So where does this leave Jayce?

Fire for Jayce means more than one thing. The first thing that should come to mind is the fire of the forge. Creation and industry. The legacy and hard work of his family.
However, his FIRST imagery with fire occurs when Elora says "Speak of the devil" and Jayce is framed in flames at Mel's fundraising party.

He's similarly framed in the flames of a Molotov cocktail on the bridge between Piltover and the undercity with Viktor, after he's just called the people of the undercity dangerous.

What I think we're being shown here are Jayce's choices. He can use his talents and influence for good - creation and industry - or he can use them for destruction and oppression. A hammer can create.
A hammer can also be a weapon, a tool of destruction:

Fire can quickly burn and spread out of control.

Hey look, blue all the way to magenta in one scene!
And if you know his original League lore, the reason why his rivalry with [REDACTED] crosses the point of no return - fire and destruction. Yeah.
Jayce is interesting because his point position in the Mel-Viktor-Jayce trifecta makes it tempting to assign celestial imagery to him, too. However, adult Jayce is only present with Hexcore, star, and sun imagery when he is sharing a scene with Viktor or Mel respectively.

The show makes it a point that Mel and Viktor are the reasons he is the Man of Progress at all:

Note that Jayce in the center of his Man of Progress posters is backed by a gear (Viktor) and the sun (Mel). If Viktor had not intervened in episode 2, Jayce would be dead or disenfranchised. If Mel had not intervened in episode 3, then Jayce AND Viktor would have been kicked out of the Academy if not imprisoned or exiled, and Hextech with Jayce and Viktor at the helm would not exist.
(This is reaching, but I like to interpret that the circle + notches in the gear shape are like Viktor's star symbolism, but even if that's the big reach that I think it is, Viktor is a machinist, engineer, and techmaturgist with Artificer parents - the gear definitely represents him on a meta level)
The imagery that I believe is Jayce's and Jayce's alone is that of fire. He is terrestrial, using magic contained within tools the way he has always wanted to bring Hextech to every household, while Mel and Viktor are influenced by magic on a whole other level.
Sure would be a shame if Jayce found a reason to choose the path of destruction and be corrupted further, diverging from Mel and Viktor's core values

Sure would be a shame if Viktor's personal choices had consequences that radiated out further than season 1 and he gets put on a disastrous collision course with everything that Jayce and by extension Piltover hates and fears

Though possibly the most important piece of this picture is how Mel - gold like the sun, gold that doesn't tarnish or rust, gold that is an excellent conductor - has already faced the abyss and said NO to her own corruption:

prologue —
in the present time, rick grimes experiences what hell on earth truly is.
chapter one ; partners —
unbeknownst to them, best friends glenn rhee and daphne ayala spend the last 48 hours of normalcy they’ll ever have before their lives are changed forever.
chapter two ; the evacuation —
the statewide evacuation is underway and it goes terribly wrong terribly fast. daphne and glenn undergo an impromptu rescue mission and soon their group of two becomes a group of 5.
chapter three ; the group —
it's been a month since the complete collapse of civilization. when daphne and glenn realize this is their new way of life, they begin to strategize the best ways of survival. along with the new members of the group, they fall into a steady routine, until a one-sided fight breaks out and everything is knocked out of order.
chapter four ; the idiot in the tank —
a supply run goes wrong and daphne finds herself reunited with an old acquaintance. old feelings unwillingly resurface but she forgets one big glaring problem back at camp.
chapter five ; maneater --
glenn and rick try out a new technique in order to survive and reunite with the rest of the group. back at camp, daphne and shane reach an understanding.
chapter six ; love rectangle —
rick confides in daphne for reasons unknown to her. as she offers him counsel, daphne is also grappling with conflicting feelings of her own.
chapter seven ; chef boyardee —
the plan goes wrong. daphne and glenn find themselves in a precarious situation but at least they have each other, right?

Important Character Info:
Daphne Ayala. She's a 23-year-old Latina woman who's working towards becoming a detective (hopefully for the FBI or some higher agency one day). As part of her training, she has to complete a few years of service in whatever local police department has an opening. You can see where this is going right? Her best friend is Glenn Rhee, with whom she shares an apartment with, and they're practically attached at the hip.
Rick Grimes has been aged down a bit though his actual age was never mentioned in the show. I imagine he's around 29, nearing 30 at the beginning of season 1. That would make Carl 9 years old (rather than 12 as he was in the show).

so, some may be familiar with my great british bake off au, Nothing Equals The Splendor. this takes place in the same universe! it's another one where im not sure why i didn't finish it, because it's over halfway done.. but whatever lol. im actually going to put the rest under a read more because there's a HUGE spoiler for the original fic!!
soooo if you remember, simon won the championship. and now he has to be really active on social media to reap the benefits. and baz makes it his mission to ensure that they have good content to post LOL, so he's constantly taking pics of simon (like an instagram husband). the fic is actually told in a collection of outsider POV vignettes -- niall, shep, dev, and penny -- before coming back to simon/baz povs.
now that im looking at this, i think the reason i stopped writing it is that there's Tension that arises between simon and baz bc of all this social media stuff and i kind of didnt want to deal with it once i got into their heads -- bc the outside povs were so fun!! esp bc i loved my versions of niall and dev in this verse.
i'll give you the full dev pov scene, because why not lol:
I didn’t expect Malcolm to take Baz’s whole new thing well. Baz’s dad has always put a lot of pressure on him. I don’t think he expected Natasha Pitch’s son to grow up to be a queer socialist. (Baz’s politics are kind of bullshit since he’s still paying rent and tuition with Daddy’s old family money. But so am I, so I can’t really judge.)
Anyway, I certainly didn’t expect this: Malcolm and Baz’s boyfriend chummin’ it up at my grandmother’s garden party. Simon had expressed mild interest in Malcolm’s newest magickal livestock endeavor (Literal fire-breathing guinea pigs. Inspired.). It devolved from there. 
I’ve always maintained that my uncle Malcolm is a softie underneath it all — mostly because I know that’s how Baz is. The Grimms are sensitive folks. And as soon as you give their weird niche topics a spoonful of attention, they fall apart like putty in your hands. You should hear Baz wax on about baking, it’s insufferable. But also very sweet. 
Or maybe Simon Snow has some kind of secret key to a Grimm’s heart. 
“Wait, my American friend taught me this one,” Simon says, reaching his hands out for Malcolm’s youngest kid, Swithin. “I've been working on the railroad / All the live-long day. / I've been working on the railroad / Just to pass the time away!”
They’re several drinks deep, passing Swithin back and forth on the steps of the back porch and singing him nursery rhymes. Malcolm just finished a rousing rendition of Ladybird, Ladybird! that made Swithin coo with laughter. 
“Dinah, won't you blow, / Dinah, won't you blow, / Dinah, won't you blow your horn?” Simon’s voice is carrying now, Swithin bouncing joyously on his knee. 
Daphne and I are standing nearby, watching the whole affair with wide eyes. 
“What is happening right now?” Baz hisses. I jump — I hate when he sneaks up on me. Stealthy motherfucker. 
“Shhhh,” I say, putting a hand on his shoulder. “They’re bonding. Nature is healing.”
Daphne laughs at that, loud enough that both Malcolm and Simon look over at us, cheeks equally pink as they realize they’re putting on a show. Daphne takes out her phone and takes a photo of them. She’s lucky the porch lights are on — the sky is a dusky purple at this stage in the evening.  
“Could you please send that to me, Mum?” Baz asks, his voice small. I’m worried he genuinely might cry. 
“It can go on my Instagram!” Simon calls over. Baz grins, walking over to sit next to him on the steps. Swithin reaches for Baz, and he swoops him up, kissing his forehead. Then he leans over and kisses Simon’s forehead as well. 
Malcolm doesn’t even flinch.

I think it’s very fitting that your scrap bin is called ‘feast on the scraps’ cuz I am very much feasting. I love the vibes of the 80s spy au. I was not ready for it to be West Berlin, but somehow that setting is very compelling. I’m assuming the people they don’t want to get the list would then be East Berlin, the Stasi and the sovjets and so on. Would explain why it’s important that they work together. The car scene is a very nice way to force Tommy and Techno into working together. It’s also a way for Tommy to earn Techno’s respect dispite being so young.
And then Wilbur comes in already having the respect for both of them. Also, sandduo crumbs. And Niki and Wilbur being siblings is something I’ve never thought about, but it’s such a vibe. It seems like they put on thus nice polite front but there’s probably danger under the surface. Either that or they got in too deep and are now rolling with it. Chaos ensured.
Then there’s the second scarp, because we are grtting spoiled. I am once again in aw of your ability to provide exposition without dumping it all on a page. Every bit of information feels organic. It feels like we just step into Tommy’s pov and are along for the ride rather than the character explaining everything for us. There’s hints towards Wilbur being blind but it doesn’t really get mentioned because it’s something Tommy already knows and is used to.
We learn about the Caves through dialogue and conversation. We don’t know what they are or what they look like, but we know their purpose (to find artefacts), their pitfalls (dangerous creatures) and their value (to make a lot of money). When and explanation is needed, we get the bare minimum. This keeps us hungry for more, yet doesn’t leave us confused. It’s just good okay.

aaa thank you!! yeah the 80s spy au was heavily inspired by a spy film I rewatch a lot called Atomic Blonde which takes place in West Berlin in the 80s, hence the setting. they were definitely trying to keep the soviets in East Berlin from getting their hands on the list hence why the Americans and the Brits decided to work together in the au. car scene works as a GREAT way to establish tommy and techno's teamwork super early on it was so fun to write
there's a plot reason wilbur and niki were siblings in this au because that's not usually a dynamic i would go for, but I had an idea and it was just too good to pass up. I don't want to spoil it in case I ever change my mind and finish writing it, but knowing me that's not gonna happen rip. but yeah wilbur and niki are SO fun in this au. they're just two twenty-somethings running a sneaky little information network, definitely do some smuggling between east and west berlin, and get a little in over their heads sometimes
aww that's so sweet I'm so glad all the worldbuilding and exposition felt natural!! i'm very proud of how I started introducing the world in the second scrap, primarily because I remember when i was first writing it i had zero plans i was literally just writing whatever came to my head. I was just coming up with the world as I went lol. and yeah I definitely wanted wilbur's blindness to just be referred to in an obvious way without it being stated outright because that's how tommy's gonna think of it. just hints here and there until tommy makes his stupid joke clarifying to the reader what's going on
I loveeeee providing exposition in dialogue. it's so much more interesting instead of just providing it in a big paragraph with zero action. I have a lot of fun with worldbuilding like that. just throwing pieces here and there and letting the readers form the picture gradually instead of just infodumping it all onto them.

Summary: The sound of footsteps drew nearer as Hopper and Joyce stared intensely at one another in their holding cell, almost as if trying to burn the image of one other’s face in their mind. His bruised hand found hers and though the mere movement caused him great pain, he squeezed it. “No matter what happens, we’re gonna get out of this. You and me, we’re gonna make it.” She nodded her head, thumb brushing his knuckles. “I know.” But as the door began to open, both secretly wondered if those words would be true.
(In which both Hopper and Joyce find themselves captured by the Russians after the Starcourt incident and trials they must face and endure before finding freedom together).

A/N: Hello all! Sorry for the wait, I have not one excuse haha! Quick suggestion, I would recommend reading this on Ao3 because the format is way better and certain things are italicized or whatever where they might not be on here!  I have decided to have both Joyce's and Hopper's POV's in each chapter. So for instance, this chapter start's with Joyce's and the second half's Hopper's. Whenever they are together in a given chapter, I will decide whose POV I want it to be (and it will, of course, alternate so they both have a chance to shine lol).                                               Chapter Three
                                                       Joyce
Joyce had once loved snow. Woolen sweaters. Mugs of hot cocoa-the good kind, made with milk and not water. Snuggled under a blanket while she and her sons watched a good Christmas movie from their sofa. Happy memories. Something she always looked forward to when the seasons changed. But now, as the wind blew, snowflakes almost falling in clumps before her, her feelings shifted. There was no more beauty. Only cold.
The long concrete walkway leading out of the fortified building, razor wire fences reaching towards the sky, seemed to go on for miles. Or so it felt that way. Though her wrists and ankles were no longer bound, Joyce didn't feel any less free. She knew that one simple wrong step would earn her a bullet straight through the head courtesy of one of the two guards who walked in unison by her side.
Some stupid part of her wanted to risk it. Give it everything she had and run. But then there was Barinov. The man, who, with the mere snap of his fingers could have Hopper hurt. Tortured. Or worse. That was enough to keep her obedient. Keep him safe from whatever sadistic things the captain had in mind. Joyce chewed on the inside of her cheek and tried not to think about what was happening to him right now.
"You made a wise choice." Barinov spoke, cutting through the silence. "Coming with me was inevitable, but your compliance helped your friend." When she said nothing, he continued. "You are luckier than you realize, American woman…or Joyce? That is your name, is it not?"
Joyce. Hearing her name from Hopper, it was warm. Gentle. Even when he was in one of us moods. But Barinov, it felt forced. Bitter. Not an ounce of compassion behind it. It left a sour taste in her mouth and she wasn't even the one who said it. Joyce tried to focus on the path ahead, catching sight of something in the distance. Black, sleek, its build long, a car no doubt. A type she did not recognize.
"Eventually you are going to have to talk. Though, once you do, I am sure I'm going to wish that you will stop. I've heard what you American women are like. Never able to keep your mouths shut, not even in death." He snorted and made a gesture with his hand. "Hopefully you'll learn a thing or two in the Motherland." Joyce could feel his stare fixed on her. "One can hope."
Joyce's fingers had grown numb from the cold as she began to clench and unclench her hands trying to warm them. For the first time since she left Hopper's side, Joyce inhaled deeply through her nose, unsure if she wanted an answer to what she was about to ask.
"What is Kamchatka?"
Barinov's expression remained neutral at her question. Joyce tried her best to read him, but the captain's silence left her with nothing. If this was some sort of a game, she'd have no part in it. Instead, she kept her pace with the men, stopping only when their path was blocked by the car. A man stepped out of the driver's side, not even glancing at Joyce as he opened the car door. Knowing that she had no other choice, she got in and found herself joined by Barinov seconds later. The doors closed and soon after the engine rumbled to life leaving her to stiffen where she sat.
Rolling hills blanked by thick snow and plants barren of their foliage seemed to pass quickly by as they drove away from the facility. Joyce watched out the window, the emptiness of it all fueling the helplessness of being separated from Hopper and the unknown of what was to come. Absentmindedly, she began to pick away at her cuticles, trying to remain strong as she fought against the void that threatened to cause her to crack.
"Glavnoe Upravlenie Lagerei." Barinov's voice cut through the silence, snapping Joyce from her trance. She looked over at him, but the captain did not return the gesture. "Do you know what that means? Before both of our times, Joseph Stalin created a…sort of prison system if you will under his leadership. He called it, The Gulag. The Motherland had many, many labor camps for many different reasons. You see, if you betray Russia, you get punished." The captain shrugged simply, as if the mere idea of it wasn't horrifying. "The conditions…not ideal. But one must do as one must. In 1960, it shut down…except for a few. Kamchatka is one of them. You and your friend chose to visit us at the wrong place at the wrong time." He paused, finally looking over at her. "Or the right."
He was trying to intimidate her. Burrow under her skin. And though her terror for Hopper's safety grew, she fought hard not to show it. She instantly regretted asking him about Kamchatka. It would've been easy enough to deduce instead of learning all of the fine details. A prison. That much she assumed. Could've sat with. Placing him in the stereotypical setting of what her brain had created from all of the jail scenes in movies she'd watched. Now her mind twisted with the real truth, bile threatening to rise at the mere thought of it all.
"What do you want with me?"
Despite it all, Joyce's voice was low, lacking any emotions as she responded to Barinov. It surprised her that even though all of the anxiety, all of the sorrow was bubbling up inside her, she was able to hold it in. For the briefest of seconds, Barinov looked a little impressed with her stoicism-a glimmer that quickly faded within a moment.
Barinov nodded his head thoughtfully. "A good question. To me, you are like a mysh."
"A…mysh?" Joyce frowned.
The captain rolled his eyes and frowned. "A mysh-a mouse. You are small, insignificant. And I, I am like a cat. If I wanted to, I could eat you just like that!" He snapped his fingers in front of Joyce's face, seemingly annoyed when she didn't look startled. "And it would be nothing. Or I could keep you around, play with you like a toy…use your for leverage. But in the end, what happens to you, your life, it is on my terms. Do you understand, Mysh?"
Leverage. In Barinov's eyes, she was nothing more than a pawn in his twisted game. Using Hopper as a consequence for any actions she might take. And quite frankly, for all she knew at this point, the same was happening to him but using her. Barinov wasn't in this solely for finding out information. No. No, the captain had a much sicker ulterior motive. This, all of what he had planned, was for his own amusement. What other benefits that came from it were extra bonuses.
"You would do anything for your friend, Mysh?" Barinov asked, his gaze burning into Joyce's. "To keep him nice and safe, yes?" When she nodded her head, the corners of his lips turned slightly upwards. "Good. You follow my rules, your friend is not harmed. You break them and…" He formed a gun with his fingers, pointing them at his temple. "Bye bye, American."
"Yes," Joyce repeated softly. "I understand."
Barinov visibly smiled, though it was far from friendly. "Good."
There were a million things she wanted to say. Wanted to scream. To just turn and start whaling on Barinov with her fists until he was nothing more than a pulpy mess beside her. But she couldn't. As much as Joyce desired that more than anything else, she had no choice but to sit there silently. Obediently. Left to play and replay those thoughts in her head as the lights from houses appeared in the distance. A town. She hugged herself, feeling cold even as the heat blasted from within.
"Ah Kyrzran," the captain sighed contently. "A village of beauty is it not?" He glanced over at Joyce gesturing towards the window. "Welcome home."
                                                        Hopper
                                     "Welcome to Hell, American."
It wasn't the sound of an alarm clock that tore Hopper from his state of unconsciousness. Nor was it the noise of channels being incessantly changed by his fourteen year old daughter as El tried to settle upon which television show she wanted to watch as they had breakfast. Instead, it was the groaning sound of heavy, metal doors being pulled open allowing bright light to spill into the once dark interior of the truck where he lay.
He wasn't given a chance to properly come to. Have a moment to adjust to his surroundings. Before he could even react, Hopper found himself surrounded by guards once more, their boots trampling over his fingers as they rushed to hoist him off of the floor. He grunted softly, trying to ignore his body screams of pain with every movement he was forced to make. Part of him wanted nothing more than to pass out-the other part knowing that if he did, there would probably be consequences.
"Move, American!"
Out of all of the yelling and commands the guards were spewing at him, only a few fragments were in actual English. He could've really used Murray Bauman right now. Hell, with that son of a bitch, maybe they could've translated and come up with some sort of peace treaty. A joke. Something that would've never happened but kinda funny in an unfunny way to think about. Hopper hoped that his friend would find it in himself to keep an eye out for his and Joyce's kids. It was asking a lot, but once he'd figure out how to get him and Joyce out of this hell hole-or her at least, he'd make it up to him.
Hopper tried to will his body to move faster as his captors struggled to keep him upright. After having the shit beaten out of him, he had no choice but to be compliant. His throat burned for water and the icy snow that was melting from street lamp like lights taunted him. He tried to distract himself, attempting to look inconspicuous as he gazed around.
From what little he could gather, Hopper found himself coming face to face with some sort of complex. It wasn't simply just a square building, he could tell that by the rows of chain link fencing and razor wire he passed as he was dragged along. The way they seemed to wind out of sight and disappear to who knows where. In the distance, the sound of dogs barking cut through the wind.
He wasn't afraid. He should've been, his own life was on the line. Instead the more he began to realize what was about to happen, the more Hopper began to fear for Joyce. The fear of the unknown of where she was. What was happening. He wished more than anything else to at least see her again, know that she was okay. But his greater desire was to be able to hold her close and just hightail it the hell out of communist country and go home.
The guards came to a sudden halt in front of reinforced steel doors. There was a short conversation, of which Hopper understood nothing before one of the men fiddled around with a panel. Instantaneously, the entrance way opened and a new set of guardsmen hustled out guns drawn as if he had just acted like he was about to pull a fast one on them. The talking started again, and even though he had absolutely no clue what was being said, Hopper knew it wasn't good.
"You know much, American?"
A man leaned over, his round face rosy from the cold. Hopper stared back at him, his lack of a response seeming to irritate the guard. What the hell was he supposed to say? Know much of what? If he wasn't restrained, he'd shrugged his shoulders. Without any options, Hopper remained silent, unblinking as he gazed at the man.
Someone jabbed his ribs with the toe of their boot, Hopper sucking in a sharp breath at the pain. The guard's face was now a deeper red, but this time it wasn't from the cold. He was closer now, his face only centimeters from Hopper's.
"Russian?!" The man held his index finger and thumb close together to the point where they almost touched. "Little?!"
Then it hit him. The son of a bitch was asking how much Russian he understood. Before he could stop himself, Hopper let out a snort. Again he wished that Murray was here so he could know how to say fuck you in their language. Instead he still said nothing, earning him a big, wet glob of saliva spit right on his face. The guard slowly stood up, his eyes never leaving Hopper's as he nodded off to the side.
"Barber."
Hopper remained stoic, not giving the guard a chance of satisfaction. He knew it infuriated him, all of them. Even though he was their prisoner, he wasn't going in kicking and screaming, pleading for mercy that wouldn't be granted. Vietnam had hardened him. A lot had. And these experiences-these traumas, if he could twist them into some odd sort of advantage to keep him going, he would. His jaw set, eyes following the guard as he was once more hauled away a small sense of pride finding him at the fire that simmered in the man's hateful gaze.
Joyce had made a friendly jab at his induction buzz cut the last time he saw her before he was deployed. Now that he thought hard about it, he couldn't help but wonder if maybe she was being a little flirtatious. Maybe he just wished that she had been. Staring at the open space before him, high brick walls, a single, heavy wooden chair, he found his mind floating back to that memory as he was forced to sit down.
A man approached, not wearing the distinctive guard uniforms he was so used to seeing, but another. Blue. Thick. Worn. Something was scrolled in Russian across his breast. A form of identification perhaps. He did not smile-then again, Hopper remembered Murray that they never do. Something was gripped in his hand, a razor that seemed to be on the brink of being tossed away. He didn't flinch at the sound of it being turned on, even when dark clumps of his hair began to fall unceremoniously to the wet ground.
Humiliation. Degrading. Christ, he just wanted Joyce. Wanted her safe. Wanted her free. Hopper gritted his teeth together as the ice cold jet of water hit his back with such a force that if he wasn't already pressed up against the concrete wall he would've been knocked off his feet. It was like being sprayed full on by a fire truck hose. Old blood and stray clippings of his hair ran down his legs and flowed to the nearby rusted drain. Naked, drenched, in the middle of a goddamn snow storm. Hopper's toes curled, the knuckles on his fingers white as he fought against the shivers that racked his body.
"Move!"
Numb and weary, Hopper gripped the uniform that was thrust into his arms. It resembled the barber's-just as worn if not more. He blinked, his thumb running over the embroidered tag on the front. Американский. Guess he wasn't the first American. Maybe, as morbid as it sounded, not the last. Apparently, his lack of speed was unacceptable to the guard and Hopper found himself struck hard in the arm with a baton. Pain radiated from the spot and he couldn't help the sharp inhale that he let in.
"Move!"
The desire to yank that damn club out of the asshole's hand and swing it hard into the side of his face was so tempting that Hopper almost considered it. Almost. But there was Joyce. Always Joyce. And if something happened to him, what of her? He needed time and pulling some stunt move, no matter how tempting, was out of the question. So he ignored the urge as he pulled on his uniform that was itchy and chafed his skin. At least it was better than nothing.
His mind traveled back to the Gate, back to when he locked eyes with her. Nodded that everything was going to be okay. That it would be fine. That she would be. He thought those were his final moments with her, not watching helplessly as she was led away by…
"American!"
Melnikov's snarl broke through Hopper's concentration as the warden approached without warning from behind. The man's eyes studied him with such hatred as he circled around the chief like a predator with wounded prey. After a few paces, he stopped, now facing Hopper full on. Their shared hatred for one another was mutual. The other man did nothing to hide it. Yet, Hopper did his best to remain stone faced. Hide any emotion. It was a power he still held over them.
"Try anything," he hissed slowly. "You die."
Melnikov gave a short jerk of his head and barked out something in Russian. Hopper could only watch as a few guards stepped forward with heavy, metal chains. The barrel of the warden's gun rested dangerously close to the chief's temple as the men squatted down and began to adjust the cuffs around his ankles so tight that it nearly cut off the circulation.
"Move," and there was a click. "You die."
He got the point. Part of him wanted to be a smart ass and point it out. But again, over and over he had to remind himself of the repercussions of acting on impulse. Hopper stood still, trying to get used to the heaviness of the chains that weighed him down. After a moment, he could see the gun being lowered out of his peripheral vision.
Melnikov eyed him, thin lips pressed into a firm line as if he were trying to gauge Hopper's next move. When nothing happened, he exhaled sharply and turned on his heels, his voice sharp as he snapped his next order.
The chains around his ankles caused him to stumble when he was shoved forward. Somehow, by the grace of god, Hopper managed to stay upright and not land sprawling on the ground. He sucked in a breath, mentally cursing as he tried his best to walk towards an open door guard on either side and the warden right on his heels.
He honestly had no idea what he expected. When it came to Russian prisons, he didn't exactly have much experience in that field. Hell, compared to the prisons he'd seen while he worked in law enforcement in New York, this place was more…archaic. Maybe not the best word, but it made what he knew back home look decent. Hopper licked his bruised lips, reopening a slit that had happened on the bottom at some point during the day. He swallowed back the faint taste of blood that came from it.
Bricks. Barbed wire. Razor wire. Mazes of it twisting and turning, sometimes stopping at bare, brick walls. He watched as a guard, armed with a semi automatic rifle, led a dog up and down the rows seemingly waiting for someone to fall out of step so he could jump into action.
At first, Hopper was under the impression that he was the only one as he was led over to the edge of the fence. After all, during his initial initiation he hadn't seen anyone else being brought in. It was as if he was special. That all changed when his attention was drawn to the men who slowly filed out of the same doorway he'd come from. Faces drawn. All silent. A few cast brief glances over at him. Distrust. Revulsion. As if any of their problems were a result of him. He continued to look forward, it wasn't like he planned to make any friends here.
The pain came in waves, sometimes hitting harder than not. As Melnikov was spouting something in Russian at the line of them, he tried to fight through the agony. Ignore the pain in his knees from standing so long. Joyce. She was his life line in getting through this. Something to hold on to. Someone. As he thought of her, tuning the warden out, Barinov wormed his way into his brain. Pain began to bubble with anger as the man's twisted features danced in his head as if the bastard were standing right before him. If he did anything to Joyce, Hopper would make him beg for death. A second motivation.
"Run, you die." Melnikov's face was just inches away from Hopper's when the chief refocused on what was said. "You hear, American?" And the chief gave a curt nod.
Their chains clinked in unison as they were all led back inside. It wasn't warm, not by a long shot, but at least they had the decency to raise the temperature just enough to where frostbite was less of a problem. But he doubted that it was done in kindness. One by one, Hopper watched as each man was taken in a different direction leaving him alone once more. The butt of a gun was rammed into his lower back, nearly knocking the wind out of him.
"Move!"
He had gotten the message, they didn't need to keep being so physical about it. The once narrow corridor Hopper had been led through suddenly opened up into a massive room. His eyes traveled around, taking in cell after cell, as the yells of both prisoners and guards alike cut through the air. The scent of musk and sweat traveled through drafts as he made his way up a large staircase, each step feeling more difficult than the last. He knew everyone was staring at him. Glares. Disgust. The American. Word must've traveled through the place like a virus. Like he had with the others, he ignored it. They craved a sign of weakness, one he was not planning to give.
"Stop!"
The abrupt command caused Hopper to stumble, nearly knocking into the man in front of him. A guard stepped forward, one he didn't recognize. He looked to be near his age, face almost cleanly shaven with the exception of a mustache that Hopper had the itch to tear off by the smug expression that was etched across his features. Whoever he was, the chief was already beginning to feel as if this ass would become the very bane of his existence.
"Go." The man nodded, gesturing for the other guards to leave. "I can take it from here."
Hopper couldn't help but look a little surprised by the man's grasp of English as the guard eyed him smugly. Without a second to recover, the chief found himself shoved straight into an open cell, this time unable to catch himself as he hit the floor…hard. Stars danced in his vision as agony erupted from his already stinging injuries.
"Yeah. It's not exactly the Ritz, is it?"
The guard's voice called out as the cell door was slammed behind him. Hopper forced himself up, panting as he made eye contact with the other man. For a second, the corners of his capturer's lips twitched into a small smile before turning down once more into a frown.
"Welcome to your new home, American."

“Moscow.”
Eugene takes a final drag on whatever stump of a Camel he has left in his mouth. Shit’s been so insane he hasn’t even had the chance to get a new pack.
Donovan tosses him a new cartridge. “Don’t mind the mess, there’s a system.”
“This the same type of system that got American forces ass-fucked in Korea?” The place was a shithole. Looked like Vito’s office after Marcano’s lackeys tried hunting for a paper trail. It hadn’t changed since he’d met Donovan a few months back to deliver some files on a weapons-racket in Conti’s district. At least the system seemed to work, based on how much shit he’d seen in the news.
“Ha-ha. That was actually MacArthur’s hubris.” The annoyed lilt at the end was felt rather than just heard. Fascinating man, but not particularly subtle. Then again, nor was Clay. Maybe that’s how the two became friends. “So, anything new in Scaletta’s neck of the woods?”
“A new problem, yes.”
Donovan half-smiles. “I’m all ears.”
A/N: I tried lol, I don’t know how well I did. Might write more of Eugene, I think I like writing him! Drier than I usually write but I like it.

Genuine questions about books with long hiatuses: how does publishing a story on RC work exactly? Is there any sort of contract specifically in relation to updating? does RC have an X number of months/years before they can approach another writer and/or cancel it? Does the writer have to give express consent to have another writer continue on the story if they are not able to? Or is it RCs right to give it to another person to complete it? Maybe I’m just too American lol and don’t know why the writer of The One handing off the story to someone else (whatever their reasons may be) is exactly news… or as big a deal as it seems on the subreddit. if that makes sense. In my thinking, RC having incomplete stories with long hiatuses loses them money right? I wonder what makes this situation different than POV and LOS with long hiatuses (for valid reasons of course).
Hope the writer is doing well. I am genuinely curious how it all works in the visual novel arena 😂

My two cents is that the author decided not to write the book again due to personal decisions - which is totally valid (we don't know if she left the company or not or if she will come back to write another one in the future). And the situation is different because in the case of LFOS and POV the writers want to go back to writing their books, but due to the circumstances they cannot.
They probably have a contract or something. From what I understand there's a certain team of artists and other staff on each book, so probably if the book is sitting still, they're not spending money on it right now. So it's not so bad? Idk
But all that is totally speculation on my part I don't know what goes on there 🤡

ive had a repeating dream with ryan in it in which my brain is somehow generating the weirdest ryan backstory details all by itself
it starts by me in 3rd person seeing ryan walking through a city (its evening and very dark) and then knocking on a door and entering without waiting for a reply and then i start seeing things through his POV and its so weirdly detailed and ryans mom has made food
and i woke up from this dream today because ryan got SO distraught/upset. and usually ive woken up or like, the dream has changed before everyones gotten to eat but today i got to see everyone start eating some sort of soup (tomato soup?)
anyway after ryan has entered the house, i get the sense ryan is visiting his parents(?)/family but i KNOW that the woman is ryans sister and i see her clearly and i KNOW she is at least 10 years older than ryan or something like, that shes my so much older than ryan that its hard to call her a sister
and the reason im not sure if theyre ryans parents or grandparents is because i feel like theyre his parents but theyre so old? but actually because its such a specific plot point in the dream that i KNOW thats ryans sister and i KNOW shes a lot older than him so that maybe in the dream it follows perfect dream logic
either way it always goes the same (and my dream ryans genealogy gets even more fucked up because his mom has a decorative pope plate AND the flag of ireland on her wall which ryan looks at a lot) and everyone sits at the same places on the table every time, so i dont get to see a lot of stuff from the other places in the apartment

and i get the sense its some assistive living situation (this is fueled by my grandma irl for sure lol) and when everyone has sat down (ryan is the last to arrive and his dad ignores him), ryans dad starts showing off what awesome gifts he has gotten for his wife. he has dark hair (but its dyed) and he hangs sunglasses from his shirt and is kinda stylish. hes also really stereotypically italian-american like hes my brains idea of what the sopranos protag is like (???ive never seen the show but if i had to pick)
his moms defining trait in the dream is having long, graying ginger hair? and also oddly parted like, it has a section of ginger hair left instead of normal graying (??). i dont get a good sense of her otherwise because shes mostly standing behind/next to ryan where hes not looking
some of the gifts i can remember are a golden necklace with a big real diamond in it, imported olive oil (it doesnt even have a label in it because its directly from some farm or something), and a champagne(?) bottle opener plated with gold with a pure amethyst handle
and everyones talking a lot EXCEPT ryan. hes mostly just thinking and i thought about it just now and i think it might be some sort of situation where theyre speaking in italian and ryan can understand but not reply which is why hes silent (??)
he thought mainly about how extremely hungry he is, and then he was like ugh i dont understand why the bottle opener has amethyst in it because that doesnt really match the decor at all lol... well whatever. he also thinks about how his mom(?) has gotten worse/more demented but at least shes taken up cooking and can cook still
finally we get to the eating part and her mom is a bit too silly/forgetful to set the table so ryans sister helps her out by setting the table while his dad talks to his wife about how beautiful etc she is (wife guy) and ryans sister doesnt give ryan a plate, so i like feel (?) ryan making a confused face at her
and shes like oh.. and she speaks to ryan in the vocal equivalent of a mean girl tight-lipped smile but nicely enough so nobody will notice and goes smth like, “theres only two clean plates of this set of four, one is probably in the wash and one is on the kitchen top behind you because mom(?) has already eaten”. and idk if she says mom or not because its a dream so its not exactly Real words bc weird logic
and she continues like “but does it matter since you never eat properly anyway, or even want to eat:/”.
so ryans like “oi oi... aheh... you got me...” in a defeated fashion and doesnt even try to argue about it. but hes really upset internally because this entire time hes been like, at least ill get food soon im so hungry...
and ryan awkwardly smooths out the tablecloth with his fingers (really vivid to me for some reason) and his dad goes on about how ryan is so disrespectful for not even wanting to eat such a hard-cooked meal and ryan just weakly smiles back at him and he was SO distraught in his brain where i was observing everything from that i woke up.
this is the first time his sister in the dream has spoken to him and it was basically just “area man gets actually bullied for disordered eating by his sister in 3 sentences or less”. why did she do that. why does she hate ryan so much
anyways heres ryans dream sister my brain made up and the image of her is so vivid about the haircut ESPECIALLY. like in t&b style too for some reason (i cant draw like that though). and she looks a LOT like ryan, vividly. im not sure at all what shes wearing though because my brain never focuses on it ain the dream and im not sure if i imagined a dress shirt after waking up or not

yeah i'm with you and the other anon on the martha/bo thing for the most part. i really don't trust the general fandom with that ship for all the reasons you've both said. i think the likelihood of martha getting paired up with a guy in s3 is pretty high, considering she's voiced both interest in getting a boyfriend, and apprehension about the concept of sex. i just worry about the show putting her with a guy and then like... that being her whole thing, either in the show or with the fandom. i feel like she also already gets watered down a lot, to being toni's sweet best friend/a wingman to shoni, or the fandom just. straight up ignores her. i don't think i've read a single martha-centric fic or a fic with her pov as the main one. i tried searching for fanfiction that was focused primarily on her and toni's friendship and i found barely anything. she's shipped with the other members of the unsinkable eight probably the least out of anyone, besides maybe nora (i think the only semi-popular martha ship with any of the girls i can think of is reidburn and there's not too much for that, either). if the show puts martha in a romance with a guy, i'd want it to be like. a full romance. i'd want it to be shoni tier, and i'd want it to be with a guy who'd actually deserve her (which is like. pretty much none of the guys on the show, at least right now), and i'd want her to have detailed plotlines outside of that romance, and i'd want them to still keep focus on her friendship with toni and the other girls (martha and fatin were so good this season guys. rachel and martha too. people, we're sleeping on reidmaniburn i think. but i digress.). anyway, that is not the thought process of most people who are pairing her up with the guys i think. i also think it's a very common thing for people in fandoms with canonically queer or even just popular fanon queer ships to very much sideline m/f ships, regardless of what other representation or interesting perspectives they might bring to the table, and it's also a common trend i've seen to throw the characters that people like, but don't particularly care about too much into m/f ships so they can go "see! we care about these characters!!!" and then throw them in as a background pairing in fics or whatever, without actually thinking about or caring about the characters involved. i totally get wanting to see yourself in ships (i often make one or both parties in my m/f ships bi LMAO) but if that's how someone treats m/f ships, i don't trust them not to completely water down or disregard bo and martha's characters when shipping them. like... i'm not opposed to bo/martha in theory, but i really don't think that the fandom would treat it well, or that the show would. sorry if this is incoherent i'm a bit out of it lol.
no i completely agree with all of this!! you read my mind but let me rehash the main points from my pov
there are rarely any plots about martha specifically that aren’t tied up in other members of the 8 (ie her entire coma situation in s2 is specifically for shelby/toni drama… like what), and i worry that putting her in a relationship will only excuse that further
it’s a problem that women of color are never seen as queer unless explicitly stated (nora, rachel, martha, even fatin is watered down to being boy crazy), whereas white characters will be shipped until the end of time. i’m not saying martha needs to be queer but the disregard from her completely when she actually probably gets along with the rest of the 8 better than ANY of the other characters is weird
“we don’t have anything for these characters, so… their plot can be each other” is 100% where martha/bo would come from
and if martha IS put in a relationship with one of the boys i think it would be great representation just in terms of martha being native american but also great representation about navigating a maturing relationship as a csa/sa survivor. but i don’t trust the writers to do that well and i don’t trust the fandom to appreciate it strictly because it’s a m/f pairing

Hi...first if all I want to thank you for your blog....you are one of the only one on tumblr (that I know of) that focus on books and I love it....I learn so much from your blog....Because you already answer your top favorite books, can I ask the worst books that you ever finished (and why do you dislike them)? Also, do you have any favorite for the classical books group (usually that we have to read in school)? Sorry for the long ask.....
i gotta say i like to pick up trashy books on purpose sometimes so that's not the book's fault bc that's what it says on the tin lol but if we're talking about legit acclaimed books some of the worst ones i've read would be american gods by neil gaiman (i just dislike everything about how he writes), vicious by ve schwab (she couldn't write a character if her life depended on it, i was recommended this book for three different reasons and it managed to disappoint on all accounts, also short pov change timeline change chapters should burn in hell this is not a fucking movie this is a book), the historian by elizabeth kostova (one of if not the longest and most boring book i've ever read, vampire books are not allowed to be this dull it's against the law), look back in anger by john osborne (men derogatory), stranger in a strange land by robert heinlein (tbh i only vaguely remember the plot but i have a distinct memory of being weirded out and grossed out by everything), find me by andre aciman (a perfect example of a sequel that shouldn't have ever been written) and finally if we were villains by ml rio (the fact that this bland and shallow secret history ripoff is more popular bc it's more "accessible" or whatever infuriates me, this is my book nemesis, i want to fight it)
i used to read almost exclusively classics in childhood and in my teens, not so much anymore, but i do still have lots of favorites from this category. in my all time faves post i already mentioned eugene onegin, confusion by stefan zweig, the three musketeers, the hunchback of notre dame, wuthering heights and crime and punishment. i can add many more but for that i need the ask to be more specific. for now let's just do one for each language i can read in :)

dangerous liaisons by choderlos de laclos - two morally corrupt people manipulate, gaslight and lovebomb for fun and profit. hadn't known you could just publish a novel about fucking back in the 18th century before i read this
the forest song by lesia ukrainka - a forest nymph falls in love with a mortal man, as you do. tragedy ensues
their pavel by marie von ebner-eschenbach - a peasant boy gets screwed by life over and over and over again but rises from the ashes each time. very inspirational (the english title is weird, in german it's called the community child)
fathers and sons by ivan turgenev - a young man thinks he's smarter than everyone else bc he discovered marxism and atheism. would be a shame if he fell in love like all those fools who believe in feelings or smth

NAME IT "Move -e ".. start out with a person doing donuts in an intersection and everyone around screaming fuck yeah !!!!! And the camera mans POV with the camera starts shooting the people and not the car drifting doing donutsz and the camera man gets hit hard af and whipped and it flashes to a news report of the body flipping on someone else's phone camera that was at the " takeover" and then it goes back to the camera goes flying 360 and still doesn't BREAK capturing everything in 360 in slow motion spinning around 2-3 times , the camera spinning 😵‍💫 so does the recording and you see all the people involved and the car that was doing the donuts drifts in gets hit and dies and another person picking up the camera while it's still on and recording and you can hear the people and the person dying the sound of the person body being thrown and someone else picking up the camera and all you can hear in the background is ,eee he's dead!!!! ☠️ the random person picks up the camera and walks away with it not caring about the dead body and later uses the camera to make a sex tape with underage girls and records the girls suckin and being f'd for the first time and crying about it when they get home and in thier beds lol 😂 😝 "SUNDANCE" lol 😆 leading to one getting prego or whatever . then that tape laying around for a while than the mom finds it and the kid runs away and goes to a friends house with them camera 📷
