This summary is factually incorrect, but I saw this post and I just wanted to make a silly, low-effort meme about one of my favorite witcher fic universes. And now I'm off to go reread my favorite installments

The Accidental Warlord And His Pack Inspired Au:
.It wasn't Geralt's plan to become a warlord of the north; however, life and destiny had other plans. Nor was conquering Lettenhove, but Geralt couldn't say he was sad about especially having to see Jaskier there.
Since the incident on the mountain, Geralt hadn't encountered Jaskier. Yet fate had a twist in store as Geralt recalled Jaskier's mention of being the Viscount of Lettenhove. In the tradition of conquest, the victorious monarch typically claims a prize.
So naturally, Geralt selected Jaskier as his prize.
It seemed like an ideal solution for Geralt—to bring Jaskier back to Kaer Morhen, where the bard could find safety and contentment. However, Jaskier's demeanour shifted, becoming more subdued and withdrawn, a far cry from his usual vibrant self. Despite Geralt's efforts, he couldn't coax Jaskier back to his usual spirited self.
It wasn't until Yennefer pointed out to Geralt the legal implications of claiming Jaskier as his prize. In the eyes of the law, Jaskier was now Geralt's property, and Geralt had yet to apologize for the rift between them stemming from their mountain encounter.

A Lord by the name Jaskier
A collection of stories where Jaskier is in a position of nobility/power. Reverse Warlord AUs, if you will.
hooked by peaktotheocean.
Julian Alfred Pankratz, Viscount de Lettenhove, hadn't been expecting to see invading Witchers on his riverbanks. Nor had he anticipated being named king to serve the White Wolf. Unfortunately, those were just the start of his problems.
Long Live the King by stockholm_syndrom.
Geralt placed the crown on his head before kneeling at his side, and the weight of it felt heavy on Jaskier’s brow. Jaskier’s path to becoming king, takes place five years after the fall of Cintra.
My Lord, have mercy on me. By SunnyInTheSun
"Where are we? I'm not sure I visited this country before." Geralt's eyes drift to the castle not very far from the forest they were hiding for a few hours. He feels his breath accelerate but he doesn't have another option: they have to hide there. Cirilla needs to rest and it's not safe to travel further if they will not rest enough. "This is Letthenove. I have a friend there, he will help us." If Jaskier is there and he's lucky enough to not be thrown out after what he did. *  Geralt is traveling with Cirilla, trying to not be captured by the Nilfgaardian soldiers. He can't stop, he can't take a break and he can't think of anything else but take Cirilla to Kaer Morhen and let her be safe... until they find themselves on Letthenove. Geralt knows Cirilla needs to take a break and rest so he goes even if he's not sure if Jaskier wants to meet him after what he did. But what he finds when he knocks on the door is not Jaskier: is Julian Alfred Pankratz, Lord and Viscont of Letthenove. His bard is not the same anymore
Without you, I'm Stronger, I'm no Longer filled with Wonder by Jassy
Another post-mountain fic (such fertile grounds they gave us!) Jaskier's father dies and, having just been summarily told to fuck off by Geralt, Jaskier sees no reason not to take up the title of Count de Lettenhove. It all just kinda gains its own momentum from there.
Discovering Viscount Jaskier and His Lands by merthurlocked.
It begins with the bard leaving all he once knew behind, It starts when he discovers a certain witcher, It nearly ends when the witcher demands he leaves, It finishes when the two idiots find one another again, and learn how to stay. (Or post mountain, Geralt and Ciri are on the run when they discover Viscount Julian de Lettenhove's lands and find them to be a place of safety that neither want to leave.)
King by MaroonDragon
(Inspired by The Accidental Warlord and his Pack by Inexplicifics and by the song King from Florence and the Machine) After what happens on the mountains, Jaskier just wants a moment to lick his wounds. He doesn't want to sing about the White Wolf and his heroics. So he goes to the only place he can go where he's not expected to perform: Lettenhove. Unfortunately, going home means facing his past and his lingering claim to a title he does not want. Frustrated with the state of the world, with his life and what people expect of him as an Omega, Jaskier has had enough. Hell hath no fury like an Omega scorned. If you want something done, you better do it yourself. Jaskier is done singing about other people's heroics and hoping that they'll make the world a better place. Let them sing songs about him for a change. He's not a father. He's not a husband. He's a king.
This is a Warlord Jaskier AU by @jaskiersvalley here on Tumblr I thought should be included here.
Refuge in Lettenhove by Descarada
Geralt and Ciri are on the run from Nilfgaard. After a narrow escape from certain death, they seek refuge in a Lettenhove court. Geralt is shocked to find that the viscount, (and secret leader in the resistance) is none other than the man he scorned on the mountain. But Jaskier is acting as though he’s never met him before in his life. Is this is the chance Geralt needs to set things right?
the viscount & the hound by Kales and sheepishwolfy (this is one of my personal favorites)
How many Julian Pankratz could there be in all the world, let alone in Redania, let alone in Lettenhove? Even if he kicked Geralt out on his ear—and that would be his right, after the mountain, after all this time—even if he refused the witcher, Jaskier would shelter Ciri. Geralt knew it in his heart and his soul and his very bones. Jaskier would keep her safe, and get her to the other wolves, or to Yennefer. With winter swift approaching, and a scared, starving child to care for, a half-dead Geralt of Rivia has no choice but to seek aid from the last person who wants to give it: Viscount Julian Alfred Pankratz.
Lettenhove times by Seiramallipop
Lettenhove, Jaskier's home, becomes a safe haven for all persecuted. This is a series of interconnecting small stories about different people ending up at Lettenhove and how they reacted to hospitality and niceness.
Of Witchers, Bards, and Broken Hearts by dhwty_writes
Six months have passed since Geralt and Ciri found each other. Since then, they have been on the run from... well, everyone, basically. Geralt is tired, Ciri is hungry, Roach is dead. And then they stumble across a very particular viscounty named Lettenhove. The problem? Geralt broke the Viscount’s heart on a mountain and Julian ‘Jaskier’ Alfred Pankratz, a bard, a friend, a lover, is slow to forgive.
Solace and Sanctuary by Igneum807 (Be warned this is part of a series, but this fic can be read as stand-alone.)
The people of Lettenhove listen to every song that Jaskier writes. He is their viscount, after all. The songs speak of witchers as heroes, as saviors, and the people believe them. When Eskel stumbles on the town in a desperate state, he discovers an unexpected safe haven in Jaskier's home and sets off a chain of events that quickly spirals into something powerful. Something the poets call destiny. The destiny of a manor and its people. Because after all these years, after all the hatred and the scorn, the witchers of Kaer Morhen have found a place to call home.

Rec List 7: The Witcher
-  Sacrifice by SeelieSkelliger
He moved the flame closer to the bard’s fingers. “But how much would you be willing to sacrifice for him? Your lute is broken, but of course that can be replaced. Your hands, however… would you sacrifice your career for him? Would he do the same for you?”
Jaskier's time with Rience. Rating and Archive warnings might be too high but better safe than sorry.
Written for Witcher Bows & Arrows Valentines event 2022 - Day 3 Prompt 'Sacrifice
Oneshot,  1,394 words
-  where the wildflowers bloom by bloomerie
Jaskier might run with witchers and witches, but she is, in the end, human.
Oneshot, 10,332 words
-  an opiate; helpmate by yeats
"Geralt," Jaskier says, displaying what he feels is admirable restraint, "if you don't stick your cock inside me this very instant, I will tear out your fucking hair."
Oneshot,  2,281 words
-  magic touch by angelzoo (shades_0f_cool)
They’re only eyes, for Heaven’s sake. Granted, they’re extraordinary eyes, and there’s this bold intensity to them that commands attention, that makes you look.
Now if Jaskier could only stop looking.
Instead, he holds Geralt’s gaze and puts his feelings into words. “It’s all in your eyes. The perpetual loneliness and quiet longing for refined company. I’m your best friend, how could I refuse such an overt supplication?”
Now with amazing fanart for chapter two by @snovaaprel!
3/3 Completed,  11,913 words
-  so gentle in his view by ArliaDevi
The thing is, Jaskier does nothing wrong. If he had done something wrong, it might have been easier. Geralt could blame him, tell him how he’d always known this would happen, how it was only a matter of time. He could justify his anger, his guilt, his fear. He could say how Jaskier needs to watch where he walks, but the fact is Geralt had walked that stretch of the track only moments ago and had not noticed the bear trap. Not noticed it until he’d heard the rusty mechanisms spring and then Jaskier’s blood-curdling scream.
Or,
Jaskier steps on a bear trap while accompanying Geralt on a hunt for a Griffin.
Oneshot,  1,799 words
-  Always on My Mind by didoandis
The bard doesn’t seem to notice Geralt lurking behind him until Geralt clears his throat, a low rumble, which makes him turn.
“Goodness,” he says. “Hello. You’re very… loomy.”
Now she’s closer, Ciri can see his face properly. His hair hangs lank around his face; stubble covers his chin, a little too long to be stylish; his eyes above are a bright shining blue. And yet there’s something faded about him, his clothes just slightly worse for wear, his cheeks hollow.
“Jaskier,” Geralt says, almost desperately.
After the mountain, a reunion. It doesn’t go that well, to begin with.
Oneshot,  11,201 words
-  A Song of Service by didoandis
“Why do you wear that collar?” the witcher asks.
Jaskier startles. He’s been fiddling with it, he realises, a nervous habit. He didn’t think the witcher had noticed, even though those golden eyes seem to spot most things.
“It’s so people know what I am,” he says.
“And what are you?” the witcher says. His tone has turned surprisingly gentle. Perhaps he can hear the misery in Jaskier’s voice.
“Bound in service,” Jaskier explains. He tries on a smile. “It might not look like it, but I’m as much of a prisoner as you are.”
Jaskier didn’t exactly plan to escape from his master alongside a terrifying witcher. But it might turn out to be one of his better decisions.
[Inspired by The Accidental Warlord and His Pack by Inexplicifics.]
3/3 Completed,  22,516 words
-  Quiet by didoandis
“Geralt,” Jaskier said. His voice was… odd. Geralt looked at him. He had one hand on Roach still, one hand at his neck. His fingers were resting on a thin, leather band around his throat that hadn’t been there a minute earlier.
Geralt makes the mistake of telling a mage he likes the quiet. He didn't intend to be taken quite so literally.
Oneshot,  10,046 words
-  another angle on the same subject by haysel
Jaskier had opened the door, so he decided to step through. “I think it’s been proven that I do understand when it’s time to walk away.”
Geralt was quiet for a moment longer. “What are you saying? Are you saying that you’re leaving?”
Jaskier glanced over at him. “Yes. I just need to figure out where I’m going.”
_____
A few weeks after the incident with the deathless mother, Jaskier leaves Kaer Morhen
Oneshot,  12,965 words
-  If I Must Starve (Let it be in Your Arms) by Igneum807
The witchers of Kaer Morhen have never been comfortable with gentle touches. It just isn't who they are. But when Geralt arrives to spend the winter with his brothers looking more relaxed than any of them have felt in years, all due to the affection of a human bard, Lambert and Eskel grow curious. They wonder what it would be like to be touched or held without fear.
When Lambert runs into Jaskier in a small town in Redania, it's the safest he's felt in years. He and his brothers need touch and kindness more than they're willing to admit, and all Jaskier wants it to help , if only the witchers would let him.
Geralt and Jaskier are together, all the other relationships are platonic with a good helping of touch-starvation on the side.

Terrible Fic Ideas #12: The Accidental Warlord, The Prequel
I absolutely adore The Accidental Warlord and His Pack series by @inexplicifics and all the fics inspired by it. Nearly all of them, though, start ten or fifteen years after Geralt has become the Warlord of the North. So naturally I wondered: what if Jaskier was there from the beginning? What if Jaskier provided some of the impetus for Geralt to become the Warlord of the North?
Just imagine it:
For some reason I imagine Jaskier and Geralt meeting while Jaskier is on break from Oxenfurt, so for the first two years or so they travel together only during the summers. It's only during their third year together when Jaskier, newly graduated, is able to travel with Geralt into the fall.
Geralt is expecting similar growing pains to their first travels together - Jaskier forgetting to pack an autumn-warmth cloak, constantly complaining about the crisp northern nights, &c. He's not expecting to spend weeks tracking an unknown monster near Ard Carraigh with a habit of abducting pretty young men and women - worrying about Jaskier every second they're apart, because he's just the right sort of pretty and trouble-prone - only to discover the King of Kaedwen's awful habits.
On the night before they're meant to part for the winter, Jaskier makes some comment ("It's a shame you can't just kill the monsters shaped like men."). This leads to a discussion about how some Witcher schools do assassinations, but "That might solve this particular problem, but there's no guarantee the person who replaces him will be much better. Not everyone has a Witcher's sense of right and wrong."
The end result of this discussion is 1) Geralt decides to take Jaskier with him to Kaer Morhen, because if he's left to make back to Oxenfurt on his own he's likely to get taken by the King of Kaedwen, and 2) he decides to ask Vesemir, ‘We kill monsters. What about the ones that are shaped like men?’
The rest goes about as described in the original with the addition of Jaskier being present for most of the becoming the Warlord of the North action. Not the battles - he's very much left behind for those, pretty much alone at first and then with servants and workers and injured Witchers as the keep is repaired and turned into a castle worthy of a conquerer - but everything else. This too largely follows the course of @inexplicifics's original.
With, of course, the addition of a whole bunch of mutual pining. Jaskier has wanted Geralt pretty much from day one, which Geralt knows but politely ignored because desire doesn't mean desiring. Geralt's felt pretty much the same since the day he realized Jaskier wasn't planning to leave, sometime shortly before the Ard Carraigh hunt that started everything off. I'm not sure how they end up getting together - sometime after all the other Witcher schools have joined the Wolves, I think, all of which experienced surprise that the man who was clearly The White Wolf's Mate by scent and behavior didn't seem to realize he was (and, stranger still, The White Wolf didn't seem to realize it either.)
Needless to say, there is much teasing, and nobody realizes when they do get together because absolutely nothing changes between them.
At some time before they get together, though, Kaer Morhen should receive tribute directed specifically at The Warlord's wife, the Lady Julia de Lettenhove in the form of lovely gowns, expensive cosmetics, and exquisite jewelry. Because naturally the gossip has spread that far out of the castle. This naturally leads to much teasing, perhaps culminating in Jaskier wearing the best of it to dinner one day (and pulling it off spectacularly).
And because I can't help myself, Jaskier is first to discover that regular sex with a Witcher keeps you young. It's a secret he manages to hoard for decades before anybody thinks to question it.
But otherwise it's largely a how the Warlord of the North became the Warlord of the North fic, interspersed with a lot of how Geralt and Jaskier got their act together, the oblivious idiots.
Bonuses include 1) a northern kingdom sending a pretty young woman to Kaer Morhen to be the Warlord's concubine à la the start of With a Conquering Air. This naturally doesn't go over well for the kingdom in question, but the young woman eventually finds her footing. 2) At least three instances of Jaskier being referred to as the Lady Julia de Lettenhove in official communication, or confused for the man the Warlord is cheating on the Lady Julia with, or the Lady Julia disguised as a man for whatever reason. And 3) Jaskier's family actually being okay with all of this. (Yes, they were a little weary when he started the wandering bard thing, but as he was a younger son - indeed, younger than than his nearest sibling by a full decade - they indulged his whims. As his brother and then nephews inherit and Jaskier remains slowly aging in Kaer Morhen, his family comes to view him as a distant eccentric but loved uncle.)
And that's all I have. As always, feel free to adopt this poor plot bunny, just let me know if you ever do anything with it.

'There are a lot of fics in the fandom where Jaskier is a concubine or bed warmer and is gifted to Geralt (usually warlord Geralt) and that becomes his path to freedom and love. Some of them are among the best fics in the fandom. One of them is one of my favorite fics ever.'
Got any recs?
Yes! I love rec-ing fics.
First let me tell you why I think this trope works so well for Geraskier. Geralt is often feared and vilified as a monster, and Jaskier is often underestimated and dismissed. In these fics, you see both of these things pulled back, as Jaskier arrives terrified, only to find out about the deep goodness and soft doughy protective core of Geralt. And Geralt, having a sexual tribute or bed warmer dumped at his door, (someone who isn't valued and has maybe even been sold by his family) finds out how talented and intelligent Jaskier is, and how much he has to give. It's finding value and hidden depth in people that society has written off as a heartless beast, or a warm body.
******Past sexual abuse (or the fear of it) is inherent in this trope, but the extent to which the fics focus on it or engage with it varies widely. They range from wholesome to dead dove. So whenever you look for this trope, mind the tags and take care of yourself.******
1. So my first rec is: The Heart is a Winged Beast rated explicit by @greyduckgreygoose
After the turmoil of war robbed him of his birthright, Jaskier endures life as a simple Bard in the court of Kerack, under the protection of his cruel, ambitious cousin. Until the night that Jaskier catches the attention of the Geralt of Rivia, Lord of the Clan of the Wolf, and is terrified to be gifted to the barbarian mercenary as a bed-warmer.
This fic. It's two good people, trapped in a vicious, unjust system. It's the near impossibility of finding their way through it to a strong, unbreakable, love of equals. It is painful, repressed longing. It is everything they can't say. It's the fact that to trust is reckless and dangerous. The scenes between Geralt and Jaskier are so intense and engages deeply with the emotional effects of the power differential. It reached right into my chest and wrung my heart out. If you read fic to feel something, this is your fic.
Full disclosure: it is not complete yet, but there are about 100k words already. If you don't read unfinished fics, check out anything else by grey. You won't regret it. Seriously grey is one of those writers that when I get the notif for a new fic, I drop everything and go read it.
2. I can't talk about this trope and not mention the og, the beloved fandom juggernaut that has inspired many, if not most of these fics, the The Accidental Warlord and His Pack series. @inexplicifics has written almost 400k in this series! There are 42 works in it! That is so impressive.
I have only read the first work so far, and it is incredibly wholesome and heartwarming. It is all about found family and has a full, lovable cast of characters with Ciri, Yen, Eskel, Lambert, Triss, Vesemir, and many others, including OCs. The dynamic between Geralt and Jaskier is so sweet and sexy. There is a scene where Geralt meets Jaskier's father that is VERY satisfying! I believe it becomes poly later on, though I can't speak to that fully just yet.
The consistency, quality, and quantity of Inexplicific's work is a constant source of amazement to me. I aspire to it! The sheer time and effort she puts into this fandom is unbelievable. And she is always gracious in the ask box, and leaves comments for other writers.
3. Inspired by the Accidental Warlord Series Tag. Also, the thing I find extraordinary about this fic series is how it has inspired so many others. As of right now, there are over 150 fics in the 'inspired by the Accidental Warlord and His Pack' tag. Just SO COOL how fandom can take a life of it's own like this! You can go to that tag and browse to find more similar fics. If you like a/b/o there are a/b/o variations of the trope in that tag.
Since I haven't finished the series, I haven't gone through that tag, but I just scrolled through (also the Warlord Geralt tag) and at a glance found a few of my favorite fandom writers in there like @eyesupmarksman @ghostinthelibrarywrites @ theartistformerlyknownasg (not on tumblr I don't think) and @hoomhum
oh and also, @oldandkinky who provides a lot of the hard kink and dead dove material for the fandom and explores the darker side inherent in that trope.
I haven't read those fics yet, but they are fantastic writers, and there are many more where that came from!

Random thought from a couple days ago:
So I get bored at work and have too much time to think of things, which occasionally leads to interesting fandom-related ideas. So here's a rewritten version of the kid's song "the ants go marching down" inspired by @inexplicifics Accidental Warlord AU.
(No, I do not care about the original rhyme scheme. Fight me.)
THE WOLVES GO HUNTING
The wolves go hunting all as one,
Beware, beware
The wolves go hunting all as one,
Beware, beware
They hunt monsters in human skin,
And slay them swift, though they be kings
And peace will reign again.
Through the lands of the Wolf and his pack.

extremely niche post but Edward de Raaf would 100% be a wolf witcher and Harry Pye would be a cat witcher and if you disagree you are wrong

There’s something fascinating about the phenomenon that sometimes a fic in a big fandom will get popular enough that it starts spawning fics of its own.
In the Captain America fandom, you have the Stucky fic series The Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail, which has some OCs in it. And other authors have written fics that include those OCs. Or you might find a fic that’s focused on another character with Bucky as a background character, and there’ll be an author’s note saying that Bucky’s characterisation is based on that fic series.
Or in the Witcher fandom, you have The Accidental Warlord and His Pack series and there are a whole bunch of fanfics that have spun off from that, either by taking the core premise as inspiration or by writing missing scenes or retellings of sections from alternate POVs. One of my favourites is a crossover with The Murderbot Diaries where Murderbot ends up in the world of the Witcher, but specifically in the world of this AU during the events of the fic series. The fic also uses the idea of there being hot springs under Kaer Morhen. I have no idea if this fic originated the idea or if it just used an idea that was already circulating in the fandom, but I’m sure it’s helped that trope become so popular in fics.
I don’t really have a point about this, I just find it interesting that a story can inspire a fanfic AU variation of itself, which can inspire fanfic AU variations of that. It says something about the nature of storytelling that ideas can spread in these chains of inspiration.

“White Wolf,” the man rasped as the Witchers stopped just before the table, “I have come to re-” he broke off in a cough, a painful sound that had Triss already out of her seat, hesitating just to the side of the man, ready to help when permitted. “To request asylum,” he continued, pushing off from the guards helping him and sinking to his knees, though whether in submission or pain, Geralt couldn’t be sure. “My name is Julian Alfred Pankratz,” he continued haltingly, struggling to get the words out, “I request sanctuary from Redania and Nilfgaard…” he stopped talking, swaying where he knelt, and Geralt hastily glanced to Eskel for advice.

And so I regrettably could not bring myself to stop for long enough to comment. Good thing I loved it so much that now that I'm finished, I miss it and I've decided to go in for round two. And ohhhhh baby will I be leaving comments this time!!!
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 I literally cannot express my love enough. Your world building and character development is off the fucking rails my friend. Not to mention the plot that's got me swooning.
Also I love that you made a spreadsheet of the fics inspired by your series. I can't wait to read all of those too.
I love you please never stop writing because you are so good at it and I don't even care what your writing or for what Fandom because damn you are GOOD.
Thank you so much for the compliments! I am delighted that you enjoy the Warlord AU!

Inspired by the accidental warlord and his pack.
It's not that Jaskier doesn't enjoy being Geralt's consort. He does. However, there are times when he misses the freedom of being a wandering bard, traveling wherever the wind takes him, with no fixed destination.
That's why, upon hearing about a bardic competition just a few hours' ride from Kaer Morhen, Jaskier decided to slip out of the keep. He thought he could get away unnoticed and have a little adventure of his own.
The problem is, on this very night, a group of conspirators was planning to kidnap him. Their goal was to provoke Geralt into launching a war by making him believe that a rival king had murdered his beloved Lark.
The group's plan hit a snag when they broke into the consort's chambers, only to find them empty. Jaskier was already gone, and Geralt had just realized that his bard was missing.
Now, the fate of a war hinges on Jaskier's whereabouts, and no one has any idea where he's gone.
