Gordon Gresley - 1932

{: This is one of the oldest photos known of Gordon. His place on the island is one of higher standing than most engines, he seems to be respected as a leader. He sure does act like one too, hopefully he can keep the NWR safe long enough. :}

Gordon is like most yard leaders turned monster: A very protective pack leader. When he'd first turned, long before the others had, he began taking on an odd habit of sleeping outside of the sheds. He became more and more defensive over the other engines, especially Henry. It was a sweet thing but also a habit that needed to be stopped or at the very least toned down seeing as Gordon was starting to threaten the other engines' drivers and firemen. While they can get themselves moving just fine without humans, they might run out of coal or water and have nobody to help them get those things. After the others had fallen to the same fate as Gordon, his protectiveness spiked up again. Especially when the diesels also began to share in being monsters. It got so bad that they had to do everything to ensure Gordon stayed far away from any diesel engines until they could get him to calm down. If they didn't keep Gordon away, he could hurt one of the diesels, and that wouldn't do anyone any good. Visitors aren't really a problem as long as he knows them. He was a bit uneasy around Hiro for the first few minutes, but after seeing Thomas eagerly jump to greet him and remembering Hiro was absolutely no threat, he calmed right down and behaved just like he always had.

The current running theory is that Gordon sees the yard as his. It's his territory and where he and his pack reside, and he doesn't take kindly to strangers of any species trying to get too close. He's not acting out because he wants to hurt anyone, but because he's trying to keep his family safe from harm. He's not aggressive, he's protective.

NWR #43 “Bruno”

Bruno is one the last of the Southern Pacific AC-12 Cab Foward locomotives, built in March of 1944 as number 4294, making him the youngest of the AC-12s. He worked on Donner Pass & Cascade Summit line until he was withdrawn in 1956. But instead of going to be scrapped, he was purchased by the NWR, who were looking for a new locomotive to haul mixed traffic work since Sam was being repaired following an accident. He was moved to the east coast and loaded onto a ship, and was sent away to the island of sodor. Once arriving on his new railway, he was modified with new bufferbeams and requested he would be given a livery based on the Sodor Line Cabooses, since he liked how unique there livery was compared to the ones he’d seen in America. Bruno has a hard time trying to fit in at sodor, mostly due to culture shock, but after awhile, he gotten used to it. He was given the number 43 in 2019, and still runs goods and passenger trains on the mainline as of 2023. He’s also good friends with fellow autistic engines, bobtail and duck. As terms of personality, he’s pretty much the same as his AEG counterpart, but he also gets grumpy sometimes as well, and he doesn’t have ADHD like bobtail. And he did sorta like his portrayal in AEG, but wishes he could have been a locomotive in the show and not a caboose.

And if your curious the Sodor Line Cabooses in my AU all wear a red livery with black roofs and wheels, white lining and yellow bufferbeams.

AND I JUST THOUGHT-

What if I made an au, where like, eternal night was casted upon Sodor, everyone died, expect for one engine. Percy. He only survives becuase he was born under a full moon, and therefore has Lady's Blessing.

So Lady appears, and gives him angel powers, and asks him to guide the lost souls of Sodor to the afterlife, that includes everyone but him. Even the diesels. That's the au idea I have for now!! I'm gonna try doodle some art for it! BECUASE FRANKLY I'M OBESSED WITH IT

How did Sir Topham Hatt react to his engines becoming beasts? Also, how do the engines act towards him, I'm sure they act the same to him like they did beforehand, but how do they act now?

He had...complex feelings to say the least. These locomotives have been his entire life, especially because some of them are so old that they've seen him grow up. They're family to him and seeing Gordon having gone through so much pain hurt him as much as it hurt the big engine. He didn't even think to contact the Stones at that point because he was more focused on helping Gordon. But when Gordon transformed completely and seemed more comfortable, he himself felt more emotional hurt, and Topham felt just awful for him. Gordon would solemnly talked about how it feels better now, but he misses his wheels, he hates how he goes feral sometimes, he hates that some of the passengers are scared of him now even though he's the same as before when he's not gone feral...and all Topham can do is listen and try to soothe him. All he can do is get the tenders cut and designed to fit tails as engines like James and Henry are transformed, all he can do is his best for them.

The engines know and appreciate this, and they care about him equally as much as he loves them. Infact, this transcends feral forms too. Gordon would never threaten his own crew (though he would growl at the crewmen of the others) or Topham, because a deep part of him remembered that they've done all they could to take care of him. Topham is really the only one who can call him down when he's feral (minus Lady, but she hides from Sodor for a long while after her initial rampage) and he's the only one who can give Gordon orders when in such a state. The two of them are very good friends, and even when he's not properly in his mind, Gordon could never bring himself to hurt Topham. The younger and more stubborn engines are much harder for him to wrangle, but in the end it almost seems like they view him in the way they view Gordon: a leader of the pack. The only one who's authority goes above Gordon's. Rebecca will fight and growl against being ushered into her shed, but Topham can usually come up to her and talk her into calming down so that her crew can get her to bed. Many assumed that they would be closer to their crews, and while they are, they seem to be far closer with their controller. They greet him in the mornings just as cheerily as they always have, and he's found himself being nudged around by tank engines seeking pets at times (and even by Gordon on rare occasions).

In short: While he's very conflicted on the whole situation, Sir Topham Hatt still adores his engines, and they feel the same to him, even if they do get a bit snappy or stubborn at times.
