About the Thunderbolt Fantasy S4 teaser shown at the Pili Fantasy Land Exhibit 2023

From November 9–December 10 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Pili held an exhibit called Pili Fantasy Land, where visitors could view a teaser trailer for Thunderbolt Fantasy S4.

While photos (but not videos) were allowed for most of the exhibit, taking photos and/or videos of the teaser was strictly forbidden, so I abided by those rules. (My photos from the exhibit are in this Twitter thread, for anyone interested!)

I was able to visit the exhibit during the tail-end of its second week / the start of its third week. Though two weeks have passed since my visit (things have been hectic, so I only got to write this now), I took notes right after viewing the teaser, so these are my notes fresh from the venue. Putting the details behind a cut for those who'd rather not be spoiled!

Nonetheless, lemme put out a disclaimer that my memory isn't perfect, so despite watching the teaser several times, there might still have been details here and there that I missed.

PLEASE DO NOT REPOST MY WORDS (i.e. copy-paste it then repost it somewhere else, and especially do not pass these off as your own). If you want to share the info, just link to this post or my Fusetter post.

Anyway, on to my notes!

IN GENERAL

No dialogue; just a smattering of scenes

Can't really tell what's going on plot-wise because the scenes shown didn't really have any revealing details: Shang drinking, Lin walking as his clothes flutter in the wind, the camera zooming in on Lang as Azibelpher says something…

6 new characters, presumably all from the Demon Realm, since Urobuchi said in an interview from the Japanese S3 art book that that setting would have a more Western aesthetic

ABOUT THE NEW CHARACTERS

Their designs look more Western but with some Middle Eastern designs/motifs

The teasers briefly showed their puppets plus their 2D concept art

As far as I can tell based on their features: 3 female characters, 3 male characters

THE FEMALE CHARACTERS

One has hair buns that look like cat ears; she wears a veil covering the lower half of her face

One is the character that Pili posted when promoting the exhibit. From the photo Pili posted, her outfit looks very Takarazuka-inspired, but seeing her concept art, I felt that some details in the middle part of her outfit looked more Middle Eastern to me

One has an outfit with a plunging neckline, showing her cleavage (iirc her outfit is mainly colored black)

THE MALE CHARACTERS

One blue-haired guy

One is an older, darker-skinned character with an outfit that reminded me of a pharaoh or grand vizier

I'm not 100% sure this character is male but I think so—part of their face is covered with a skull mask, and their robes kinda remind me of Caster from FGO

Can I get a small synopsis of thunderbolt fantasy? It looks interesting

Okok I'll try to be brief. Our story is set in Dong Li, a country where in the past there used to be a war between humans and demons, so humans forged powerful magical swords that could ward off demons, and this results in demons being successfully banished from human realm.

In present time, demons are gone but the powerful swords still exist, and shrines are built to protect these swords from falling to the hands of evil. One guardian of such shrines, Dan Fei (green) and her brother (light blue) was attacked by an evil group (yellow) who wants to steal the sword they're guarding. Her brother sacrificed himself so Dan Fei could escape. During her run, she ran into Shang Bu Huan (red), a traveler who just arrived there, who decided to protect her after being convinced by Lin Xue Ya (violet) to help her.

Shang managed to drive off the mooks, but the evil group is still hunting Dan Fei, so she begged Shang to go on a quest to defeat them for good. Taking a pity for the poor girl and having his arm twisted being convinced by Lin Xue Ya, Shang agreed to help. They later assembled a team to fight the evil group, including a one-eyed archer and his plucky brother, a flamboyant assassin and and a demon(!) necromancer, each having their own strengths and quirks, they go on a journey together to defeat the evil group... But it won't be easy due to many difficulties and conflicts they would face along the way!

This is very brief spoiler free synopsis for season 1. It starts a bit slow but ramps up immediately halfway the season, and there are many plot twists and surprising developments. Gen Urobuchi, the guy famous for Fate series and Madoka Magica is the one who created the series and wrote the story, so if you're familiar with his works you might be able to tell things are gonna be crazy!

霹雳 or Pili is a Taiwanese glove puppet drama that’s been airing since the 1980s and currently there are over a thousand episodes. The plot varies across its many seasons but it’s basically about martial arts, sword fighting and lots of drama between the many many characters of the show. (It's not stop-motion btw, it's filmed live with the puppets)

There’s always some bad guys or groups stirring up trouble. But bad or good the characters always look damn good I mean...

Anyway its been a special interest of mine since I was about 16 Cartoon Network aired a horribly edited dubbed version of it before quickly pulling the plug on it (Wulin Warriors… only look it up if you want to cringe)

As much as I love the series it's rather hard for people to get into if you don't know Chinese. BUT if you are interested you have some options!

Thunderbolt Fantasy:

It's not Pili but a new series, a collab between Pili, Nitroplus, and Good Smile. If you like anime you'll love this! There are 3 seasons, 2 movies, and season 4 is in production I believe. You can find it on crunchyroll or any site that uploads anime.

Pili Fantasy: War of Dragons:

A remake of an early Pili series made to appeal to a global audience. It was on netflix, which was a dream come true for me.

Literally.

But since all my dreams are meant to die, netflix removed after a couple years. There's no legal way to watch the subbed version, but there are other ways if you know what I mean 🏴‍☠️

There's another 2 seasons of Pili Fantasy but they are sadly not subbed.

Yesterday I found out that the upcoming season 4 of Thunderbolt Fantasy will be the final one 🥲 As sad as it is to have an end in sight for my favorite gory puppet anime, I'm glad it seems that it will have a logical and satisfying ending rather than being extended indefinitely for the sake of money... also there will be a final movie apparently so that's something to look forward to!

Anon 7: It seems pretty clear to me that Seb was done with Bucky after FATWS unless he got a decent story, and Feige gave him one with TB, so yes, he signed a new MCU contract of unknown length based on this new turn of events. And yes, he may have to turn down a role or two because of it, but starring in an Avenger-type Marvel movie is a level of exposure Marvel's never given him before, and it will open more doors at a higher level. So the net gain for Seb should be absolutely fantastic.

Anon 8: Being part of MCU/DC Comics /Starwars franchise has become the latest new trinket to have in Hollywood. "A" list actors are putting themselves out there to be part of one of these franchises. Kim Kardashian is vying for a spot in the MCU multiverse( I hope she doesn't get in). They might be rubbish to you but these movies are exposing the actors to new audiences. Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie weren't on my radar until I saw them in the MCU. I now follow their work. The sh!t movies are making hundreds of millions to billions of dollars. They're a nice palette cleanse from the more serious dramas.

Is anyone else tired of contract talk? He signed one, whether it’s a new one or a revision of his previous one. The end. Lots of A-list talent in the MCU, Seb is probably thrilled to be working with fellow actors he hasn’t had a chance to yet like JDL & Miss Flo.

And if you’re not an MCU fan or unhappy with Bucky’s character development, go read some fanfic (like I do!) when canon doesn’t suffice.

Thunderbolt Fantasy S4 Begins Filming (+ My Translation of Gen Urobuchi's Comments)

Earlier, the official accounts for Thunderbolt Fantasy and Pili announced (in Japanese and English, respectively), that filming of S4 has begun.

Pili's official Twitter and Facebook accounts linked to an article in Chinese with more photos and details regarding the kick-off ceremony.

Meanwhile, TBF's Japanese Twitter account posted a bit of commentary from Gen Urobuchi regarding this bit of news, which I translated via a Twitter thread and am now cross-posting here.

If I have time and/or no one beats me to it, I'll try translating Pili's article as well, though at this point my Japanese is better than my Mandarin... 😅

Spring Anime 2021: Embarrassment of Riches

So this current anime season absolutely stinks, which just makes the last one look even more impressive. Well, maybe not all of it...

Zombieland Saga Revenge

First off, you don't need to tell me that the following is a severe outlier opinion. We good? Ok. ZLSR is, in a word, subpar. I liked S1 back in the day, but it was already in the process of getting lazy towards the end. S2 continues this trend and is basically just another idol show. And as someone who actually does watch other idol shows I have to say that it's not a particularly good one of those either. The zombie gimmick has mostly stopped mattering and we're just doing what every idol show does, only with the odd occasional sight gag. The alleged subversive qualities mostly amount to a flashback for Yuugiri, which is admittedly the best part of the show but feels like it barely has anything to do with anything. Apart from that, it's a bunch of generic idol plots, rehashed character beats, shoddy attempts at twists (while not connecting to any setups from S1), and the obligatory "idols give us hope" ending, which is terribly hackneyed and flat out bad. Tae gets further memed into the ground, because of course she does. And there's stuff that was simply never good to begin with, like Kotarou and his comedy schtick, which gets truly insufferable now that there's no qualities to distract from it. It really makes me think that S1 wasn't even all that good to begin with and seems like an attempt to turn this surprise success into an easy money longrunner with no edge and no ambitions. "The idol show for people who don't watch idol shows" indeed, but not the way you mean it. 4/10

Bakuten

But not to dwell on the failures, with the second show we're already above the cut — barely. This one got my attention with its really impressive performance scenes early on and it totally sticks to that, which is even more impressive. But besides that? Well, this is by far the most predictable show in a season where I watched an unambitious Kiraralike and put ZLS on blast for having no ideas. The characters are a mixed bag, some are cool (Shida, Asawo), some are very annoying (Mashiro), but those are the supports. The main cast is extremely one-dimensional, which is fine until they try to heap a ton of pathos on their lead, which doesn't go well. But I guess execution matters, and Bakuten is slick enough to get by. Writing this down in stark daylight I feel like I overrated this show somewhat (I actually put it over the next one originally, which definitely doesn't hold up when thinking about it), but I was indeed mostly entertained. 6/10

Yakunara Mug Cup mo

Yeah. Of course Mug Cup definitely doesn't invent or subvert anything either, but it's a pretty good Kiraralike that's always entertaining to watch. Explaining the qualities of such a nothing genre is as difficult as ever, but it mostly comes down to me liking the characters and it having nothing to annoy me. It's shorter than normal, which is a plus for slim shows like this. And yeah, you can make an excessive amount of dick jokes with the clay fondling. That helps too. Looks are just fine, pleasant but nothing out of the ordinary. Comfy low-effort anime. 6/10

Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song

This one is decent, but sadly still a major letdown. Because the first few episodes of Vivy were excellent and kicked ass, but then it became increasingly clear that the writing can't cash the checks the ideas wrote while the action starts running into severely diminishing returns. Vivy just keeps slowly getting worse and worse as it goes on, not by a huge amount each episode but by the end there's a pretty sizeable gulf between potential and result. Going into detail would probably be a little much for this venue because there's a lot, but from the top level view the issue is that while Vivy has good fundamental ideas and steals at the right places, it just isn't a smart show — it's schlock, and by the end, poorly thought out schlock that tries to smooth out every problem with liberal application of the big feels hammer and le epic twist at that. Yeah, couldn't tell that the Re:Zero dude was aboard here, for sure. That said, it still works pretty well as entertaining schlock that is not to be taken too seriously, and the characters are generally just very fun to watch even when they're doing stupid things. Still, I can't in good conscience rate this higher than Beatless, a show that looks like butt but properly executes on its ideas. 6/10

Super Cub

So this is 100% a Honda commercial, and I got really mad a Yuru Camp last season for being a blatant shill. Yet I'm feeling this, what gives? I think the main difference is that Super Cub is specifically a commercial for one product (and a very iconic product at that), while Yuru Camp is so all over the place that it ends up mostly a commercial for consumerism in general. And when Super Cub goes too hard on the product (which it does), it's at least pretty entertaining. That's something about Super Cub in general: It goes hard. Your regular Kiraralike this is not, because it's uncommonly slow, focused and moody - yes, it almost measures up to Yuru Camp at its best and demolishes it at its worst. Also, it's just extremely amusing to see sadblob Koguma grow a huge grizzly biker beard and become a badass outlaw dad to her goofy wife and cute daughter, all thanks to the power of afforable personal transportation. Needless to say, that can get unintentionally silly, but Super Cub has so much charm that it doesn't matter — it's great when it's good and still funny when it's not. 7/10

Shadows House

Shadows House turned up with a lot of potential, and I have to say it at least delivered on most of it. It has some problems; notably I'm not a fan of how the entire middle turned out to be a tournament arc of sorts that seems curiously inspired by Resident Evil memes, crest-shaped intentations and boulder punching included. I also think that this is a show that would be perfectly fine without explaining much, but I guess it is a shounen manga after all so we got dumped on eventually anyway. At least that came late - close relative Promised Neverland didn't show that much restraint. Shadows House is generally well written though, with great characters, interesting interactions and a great hook. But what really makes it memorable is that it's exceptionally good at the cute/creepy contrast, something that is often tried but rarely works as well as here, with great character designs and very appropriate production. I hope this gets a sequel, because it seems like it's just getting started. 7/10

SSSS.Dynazenon

Coming in with a fondness for Gridman, Dynazenon didn't have to do much to convince me. The surprise though is that it's not a rehash even if it's basically the same show, a character drama where occasionally huge and goofy fights break out. Dynazenon is Gridman done better, and the interesting part is how it accomplishes this - mainly by being far more conventional. I do appreciate that Gridman went for something weird and almost experimental, but that only really paid off towards the end while most of the show was a distraction/holding pattern. It just didn't feel like there was enough material for a full series there, more like a movie maybe, if even that. Dynazenon fixes this by just being a TV show, with an actual cast of characters that each have their own arc. And by spreading the material this way, Dynazenon ends up having a lot more nuance than its intensely focused predecessor, while having the same themes and not actually being any deeper. In a way, Gridman ends up looking like the spinoff in retrospect, while Dynazenon is the full package. 8/10

Thunderbolt Fantasy S3

So how good was this season? So good that Thunderbolt Fantasy doesn't end up at the top, that's how. And all the elements that made Tbolt such a sure thing are still there, big hammy puppets doing stunts and scheming never gets old. However, I do have to note that at this point, the writing appears to have gotten too comfortable. I don't expect it to ever top the amazing S1 ending, but at this point it's like Tbolt has stopped trying to deliver on endings at all and seems in the process of retooling itself into a longrunner instead. Barely anything gets resolved in S3 (the climax is that the climax of S2 is resolved again, for good this time... maybe), and everything else is just setting up plotpoints for the next season. Tbolt is truly lucky that it doesn't actually need to resolve anything to be a great time, but at this point I have to say that I'd appreciate it if they wrapped it up with S4. 8/10

Nomad: Megalobox 2

Speaking of sequels to shows I liked, Nomad doesn't so much improve upon its predecessor but steamrolls right over it. This is a tall order, since Megalobox was surprisingly good for a sports shounen and had a real nice, heartwarming ending that Nomad instantly negates for purposes of drama and everyone being extremely miserable. That sounds like a pretty terrible idea - and it would be, if Nomad wasn't as excellent as it is. To call it not the same show would be an understatement, because it's a true sequel, not just the same characters doing their thing some more, or new characters doing the same thing as the old ones did. Indeed my biggest problem with Megalobox was that it still closely adhered to its genre template and was very predictable; Nomad fixes this issue thoroughly. Nomad is about questioning what being a hotblooded shounen protagonist eventually leads you to, and how to fix everything you screwed up by being one. You could call it a deconstruction, but that term has been so abused for cynical, edgy "thing you like actually sucks" takes that I feel like it doesn't really fit here. Nomad isn't cynical at all, it's just a character drama about some boxers past their prime, and it being a sequel to a show that is indeed rather formulaic just enhances the experience. My biggest issue with it was that I really like what they did with Joe in this story, so the big focus on Mac's backstory felt like a distraction for a long time. But in the end that turned out to be absolutely necessary to make the ending work. The ending's just great, by the way, and I shall say not more about it. 9/10

Odd Taxi

Yeah boy, here's the show that has apparently become somewhat of a "greatest show you didn't watch" meme, which I can feel smug about because I don't need YouTubers to tell me what's good and followed this from day one. Anyway, Odd Taxi is indeed great, the greatest show in a few years even. What starts out as seemingly a relaxed hangout show in the vein of Midnight Diners quickly turns into a psychological murder mystery while never losing its quirky humor. The character writing is outstanding, with even small bit players being on a level that the average anime wishes it could have for leads. And the rollout of the mystery is exemplary, with answers given and new questions raised every episode with a satisfying and logical payoff in the end. This is also the rare anime that has rock solid production from the first to the last second; it's never really flashy but excellently done and highly consistent nonetheless. And the music just owns. I have a few complaints, mainly that there's a few logical weaknesses in the story (which wouldn't even register in a lesser show, but sticks out here since the rest is so immaculately constructed) and that the ending overextends on the emotions when the rest of the show is so reserved and dry in comparison. But those are only the reasons why I didn't give it perfect marks, and I almost did that anyway. 9/10

Thunderbolt Fantasy English Fancast ideas (Contains Spoilers):

Well this was a long time making. This took a while to really come up with, some were simply easy while others were very difficult to come up with, especially with the minor characters. Wanted to figure out who I felt would work if they did do an English dub, having to listen to various voices to be certain of my choices. Also didn’t want to go with obvious choices so wanted to add variety between known and lesser known. One detail I’m uncertain about that is if Thunderbolt Fantasy got a dub, should they use their Chinese names or their Japanese names, personally I think since it is done by Pili Puppets, I feel the Chinese names work with that universe’s setting, but that’s just me. To make things simpler I did add both Chinese/Japanese names minus a few for reasons. By this time there’s only been three seasons and two movies (plus April Fools specials), no word on Season 4 yet or if there’s a third movie planned. With that said, here are some of my choices for the Fancast idea.

Protagonists:

- Shäng Bü Huån/Shö Fu Kan: Chris Guerrero

Was my first choice but wasn’t really sure at first, but the more I listened that I decided his voice worked well

- Lin Xué Yä/Rin Setsu: Benjamin Diskin

Another choice that was difficult but hearing his range could show he had potential, I can see him use a slightly pitched version of his young Xehanort voice for Lin.

- Dän Féi/Tan Hi: Carrie Keranen

One I pic for meta reasons later down the line, but felt Carrie could fit her very well listening to the range Carrie has like her Mami or Lavenza voice.

- Juǎn Cán Yú / Ken San Un: Johnny Yong Bosch JYB was not my first choice originally but listening to his range, I can kind of feel it working. Having that blend of naivete and stubbornness but still kind hearted in doing what is right.

 - Shöu Yün Xiäo/shu Un Shö: Keith Silverstein

A difficult one that was really difficult to choose, gave Silverstein a listen and felt some of his voice range could work.

- Shä Wü Shéng/Setsu Mu Shö: Ian Sinclair

Another one I wasn’t too sure of at first, but felt Ian could have the range to make this role work.

- Lång Wü Yéo/Röfu Yö: Jonah Scott

Now this was one that I was back and forward on, between him and Zeno voicing him, by the end I decided to with Jonah since I felt his calm voice could work with Lang, plus his singing is pretty good and think it’d be cool seeing him make an English version of the theme songs along with Amalee,  

- Ling Yå/Ryouga: Zeno Robinson

Was back and forward in whether Zeno could work as the talking Pipa, but seen his demo which shown his range and felt he had a range that hasn’t been seen yet and thought this would be the character to utilize it, plus Ling Ya/Ryouga gets to talk more so there’s that.

- Mü Tiän Ming/Mutsu Tenmei: Amalee

This one was a little more easy to pic, I try not to be biased with the choices I pick but felt her actress was cool and her singing is amazing so I felt she fits the role. Also thought it’d be cool seeing her and Jonah sing the theme songs.

Antagonists:

S1

- Mie Tiän Håi/Betsu Ten Gai: Crispin Freeman

Was a little difficult but was recommended this idea by a pal of mine when I brought up the idea of having Crispin be the voice, I did give a listen to see if it could work and I believe it does.

- Xing Håi/Kei Gai: Cristina Vee

Was a little difficult but felt Vee could do this voice justice and like with Carrie, I also added Vee for meta reasons (I’m certain some will figure it out the more you see the connection).

- Cán Xiōng /Zan Kyö: Chris Tergliafera

Another one that was difficult but listening to his voice range I felt his Sigma voice in MVCI could work with Cán since he is only around for an episode plus a small role in the first movie.

- Lie Méi/Ryö Mi: Lauren Landa

Like the past female roles, I add this VA for meta reasons, but was difficult whether Lauren should be her or another character down the line, but went with this one cause I felt she fit Lie more.

- Diäo Ming/Chö Mei: Zach Aguilar

This one was another choice that was difficult but the more I listened, the more I felt he had the range, plus don’t see him do a lot of villain roles so thought I’d add him to his roster.

- Yäo Tü Li/You Ja Rei: Casey Mongillo

Another tough choice but decided to go with Casey since I felt they could make it work with the range they have. 

S2

- Xiåo Kuång Juån/Shö Kyö Ken: Ricco Fajardo

Another one that was very difficult but the more I listened to Ricco, the more I felt he worked so well, I can see him hamming it up, probably not at the same level as his Kotaro from Zombieland Saga but still have that craziness when Xiao snaps.

- Xié Ying Luö/Katsu Eiraku: Sarah Anne Williams

Another choice that I picked for meta reasons like the previous female characters, but didn’t just throw them into whatever, I do pick the characters I feel they can do best with and I felt Sarah worked with Xié quite well.

- Hub Shi Ming Huång/Kasei Meikou: Kellen Goff

Added him in Season 2 since I recall him being mentioned before his on screen debut later in Season 3, as for the voice, I wasn’t gonna pic him originally, but then I heard his Fenrir’s calm voice in Smite and thought “Holy S**T, this works and needs more notice” and so I decided what the heck.

- L6u Zhén Jié/Ro Shinkai: Matt Shipman

Always saw Matt tend to voice crazy characters and felt he could use his Cuttthroat voice from Akudama Drive voice, especially when he gets obsessed with his princess coming up next.

- Qi Shä Tiän Ling/Nanasatsu + Zhåo Jün Lin/Shou Kun Rin: Cassandra Lee Morris

Another choice that was meta but was not gonna be this way originally, eventually I decided to go with it since I found it fitting having her voice a character that manipulates those who wield her.

S3

- Wän Jün Pö/Ban Gun Ha: J micheal Tatum

Another difficult choice, I was hesitant at first since I’ve mostly heard his voice as Okabe and Tenya, but then remembered he voiced Scar in FMAB and felt a more elder version of that voice could work with this character.

- Yi Piäomiäo/Hyou Byou: Kyle McCarley

Here’s one I’ve had to really think about and even second guess a few times, but listening to his voice over roles on YT, I could hear the potential plus don’t see him doing villains often so thought this would be one that could work.

- Azibélpher/Ajiberufa: Rich Brown

A lesser known VA but that is the reason why I went with him, with King from One Punch Man being the one thing I know him for, I felt he had potential to do more and hopefully Azibélpher will get more to do in later seasons.

- Chåo Féng/Chou Fu: Christine Marie Cabanos

Introduced in the 2nd movie and became a recurring character in the 3rd season. I felt Christine had the voice range for this cheery psycho, I wasn’t gonna originally but then I figured adding the 6th VA from that series to fit the quota even if she Doesn’t meet That certain character.

Minor Characters:

S1

- Dän Héng/Tan Kö: Aaron Dismuke

When choosing it was really difficult, having to look for various choices but decided to have Aaron portray the brother even if his screen time is short lived.

- Liån Qi/Ren Ki: Xander Mobus

This was another difficult one to choice, even second guessing, but felt Xander had the range to pull off an old man voice.

S2

- Mö Wéng/Botsu Ou: Patrick Seitz

Was originally gonna have Kallen be the voice but after hearing his Fenrir in Smite worked better for another character. In the end I decided to go with Patrick since he tends to do a lot of growlling characters like in Danganronpa and Beastars.

- Bö Yång Höu/Haku You Kou: Christopher Sabat

Picking smaller characters is surprisingly difficult, after thinking about it I went with Sabat, figured with a lot of roles he portrays, I figured he’d work with this smaller role

- Bi Shü/Heki Suu: Bryce Papenbrook

Kept second guessing but felt it’d be a decent choice.

- Yöu Qing/Yuu Sei: Brian Beacock

Like the past ones I was going back and forward with whether to have them be this character or not, decided to keep it this way for now.

S3

- Gui Duö Tiän Göng/Ki Datsu Ten Kou: SungWon Cho

Was considering having ProZD be in this series, but with a lot of other choices, it made it more difficult, but felt I could have him voice Gui, he has a lot of range and I feel he can go nuts with this out there character.

- Bailian/ Byakuren: Kyle Hebert

Again this was a difficult choice, by the end I went with Kyle since I felt his voice could work with this mysterious character that created the magic swords.

Movie/Specials:

- Tie Di Xian/Tekkisen. Travis Willingham

Had a lot of difficulties choosing this one, but like most, went with Travis since I felt he had the range for it.

- ??? (IShang/Shou mposter): Chris Guerrero

Was second guessing but decided to have Guerrero also do his Impostor’s voice as well, I figured it’d be funny seeing both of Chris’s characters interact with each other and overact with the butchered recap

- The Xuan Gui Zong: Various

This was almost difficult but I think we could use more the actors mentioned previously to provide grunt voices like Aaron Dismuke, Patrick Seitz and a few others for example.

- Zhöu Xün Yin/Shün In: Anairis Quinones

For Lång’S mother, this was difficult choice but after thinking about it, I figured Anairis would work, I feel she is a very underrated compared to most and show her range with a character most disliked to now seeing why she became the person she was.

- Tiän Göng Gui Jiång/Ten Kou Ki Shou: Alejandro Saab 

Had a different actor in mind, but after listening more I felt this was a neat choice.

- Mikazuki Munechika: Austin Tindle

Well here’s an out there idea, yeah I figured since this is a theoretical idea, I’d even try dubbing the April Fools specials, something they’d often do other than recently but that’s beside the point. For those unaware Mikazuki is a character in the Touken Ranbu series and shares the same Japanese VA for Lin Xué Yä, hence the meta joke of the two feeling a connection, while the VAs are different, there is a Touken Ranbu connection......granted they were in different seasons but it is a small connection. Speaking of VA’s I was going to have Mikazuki’s English VA reprise his role, until I realized who voiced him and went “NOPE, Never mind (for obvious reasons)” so had to think of another VA that did voice the anime and decided Austin could work, an odd choice since he was the voice of Hakata, but seeing his range would make it work.

- Sengo Muramasa: David Wald

With Touken Ranbu having a dub, having David reprise his role made sense. Like Mikazuki, Sango is brought in since he shares the same voice as Shang’s Japanese VA, but like the previous one doesn’t apply, however David and Chris have worked in the same Touken Ranbu series (Guerrero being Tonbokiri) so that sort of works.

- Kyubey: Cassandra Lee Morris

For those wondering, this was what I was setting up with most of the female casts, the thing I did was have the cast of Madoka voice a majority of the female cast just to have an excuse of them meeting Kyubey again but this time finally get their revenge on the chaotic being, which would be pretty satisfying.

- Saber/Artoria Pendragon: Kari Wahlgren

Was originally thinking of having Elizabeth Maxwell do the voice as a meta joke of her fighting Shang (since they’re Albedo and Ainz in Overlord). but didn’t want to break my reprisal role kick, so I figured it’d be easy.....until I realize she had three English VA’s, after listening to their voices, I decided to go with the current VA for Saber since most say she’s the best of the three.

There is one voice I’m not sure if I should’ve included or not and that is the Narrator since 90% of it was unchanged when they have Huei-Fung Huang’s poems describe the character’s true debut. But since this is theoretical, I’d likely have Keone Young narrate in both English and Chinese, he is mostly known for voicing mostly Wester media but have seen him do some anime recently like in Godzilla Singular Point, plus he is Chinese from his father’s side from what I’ve looked up.

With that, that is my initial fancast idea, some may agree or disagree with the choices but I am interested in hearing if there’s other VA’s you’d think would suit these characters better, I’m not too fluent in knowing every anime VA like most, but I did my best with what I could do.
