Note
do you have a favorite reptile?
Yes! Tiliqua rugosa, the Shingleback Skink! It was the first viviparous reptile I remember learning about (gives live birth, has a placenta and everything-- countercultural icon), AND it looks like THIS

FUCK YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Most skinks have smooth, overlapping scales and a glassy appearance—but not the shingleback skink (Tiliqua rugosa)! Unlike its relatives, its scales are keeled, or rigid. Something else that sets it apart? It’s unable to shed its tail. Scientists think that the shingleback’s short, stumpy tail—which is similar in shape to its head—confuses predators, leading them to wonder, “Which end is which?” And in that moment of hesitation, the skink may escape. If it wants to scare a foe away, it may try flashing its bright blue tongue. Animal of the Day!
Shingleback Lizard (Tiliqua rugosa)
Tumblr media
(Photo from Los Angeles Zoo)
Conservation Status- Least Concern
Habitat- Australia
Size (Weight/Length)- 45 cm
Diet- Insects; Flowers; Leaves; Carrion
Cool Facts- Upon first glance, you may mistake this lil’ man for a pinecone. The short tail of the shingleback lizard is meant to confuse predators as it closely resembles its head. Once these skinks find a territory, they spend their entire life there with their mate. Being monogamous, shingleback lizards are one of the few reptiles to not only have livebirth instead of eggs but both parents help in caring for the babies. The pair’s offspring will stay relatively close to their parent’s territory and create loose family groups as a result. Their burrows can sometimes interconnect and create massive underground systems of generations of skinks.
Rating- 13/10 (Oh yeah, and their tongue is blue.)
Animtober- Match (Monogamous for life.)

Using Titamor to flesh out the Hylaeotryannus. I wanted to give them a gorilla like build since they are facultative quadruped's (knuckle-walking quadrupedalism)
I'm also playing around with different aspects of animals on them as I want the Hylaeotryannus to be a multi terrain species. so far I have Crocodilian for how they swim, Orcas and meerkats for how their species behave, Gorillas for their anatomy and Tiliqua rugosa for their courtship/mating behavior. I wanted to incorporate bears somehow but I don't know yet...
They have manes but I left their necks naked :P
so here's a Hylaeotryannus lounging
