Shouto hates hospital stays on principle; they’re too much like home, but the wrong kind of home. The one he’d rather forget; the clinical, impersonal home, steeped in a melancholy so thick he can taste it behind his teeth, like the sickly sweet scent of white lilies on a windowsill and the thump of boots on hardwood floor. Like an irrational, tinkling bell, his heart monitor still kicks up at the sound of heavy feet on linoleum just beyond the door, weakly longing for the merciful subtlety of the carpeted dorm halls.

He’s gotten too used to Sero’s snoring through the paper-thin walls, the smell of Satou’s baking in the morning; when had laughter in the kitchen turned from a strange curiosity - so out of place in what Shouto had thought normal - to something expected , so engrained he feels lost without it? 

Even the muffled pop of explosions from the room below him had become routine; waking up with the sun to the steady, earthy crackle of Bakugou teasing out the nighttime wrinkles in his quirk.

Well, at least one thing from home seems to have followed him here this time.

There’s no whip-crack of explosions to signal dawn, but Shouto assumes that’s less out of courtesy and more because Bakugou’s hands are still too blistered to burn off the nitroglycerin. Instead, it sticks to their shared room and fills up his senses; the sweet smell of burnt caramel is a different kind of saccharine - one that sits on Shouto’s tongue and lingers, but doesn’t sour.

Even with the room free of Bakugou’s incessant grumbling (something Shouto never thought he’d actually miss), he can still taste him on every inhale. 

The thought sends a curious shiver up his spine.

Not that he needs any help with that - the hypothermia frosting up half his body is doing enough, fighting off frostbite in his extremities; he’s lucky his heart’s a half inch closer to the left, so he’s only stuck with unthawing a frozen liver, kidney, and lung instead of chilling in the morgue. 

They really overdid it this time. And of course Recovery Girl is away helping with tsunami relief up in Fukushima, so Shouto’s just left with the world’s most turbulent lifeboat to stop him from drifting off to sea.

A lifeboat that seems to be rounding the corner, if the growing sound of raised voices is anything to go by.

“I got it, I got it- do I look like I need help?” 

Bakugou very much does look like he needs help, leaning heavily on a crutch with his left hand, a tray of food balanced precariously in his heavily bandaged right, dragging an iv drip behind him as he bursts into the room. A small army of nurses trail behind him, singing out a cacophony of woes.

“I made it up two flights of stairs already, what makes you think I’m gonna collapse now ?”

He took the stairs ? League of Villains be damned, Bakugou’s pride is going to finish him off before Shigaraki can get his deadly hands anywhere close .

He somehow manages to shoo away the nurses, letting out a heavy, disgruntled sigh when the door closes behind them.

“Jesus, fuckin’ leeches… If I wanted someone up my ass, I would’ve requested a single room and signed up for conjugal visits.”

Shouto feels the corner of his mouth quirk up in a half smirk. There’s that grumbling he’d missed so much.

“I don’t think that option is on the intake form,” he quips, looking up at Bakugou through his hair. “And even if it was, who would you possibly request?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know,” Bakugou mutters, and then does something completely incomprehensible - he sets the tray of food down on top of Shouto’s blankets, crawling to sit cross-legged on the end of the bed, facing him.

For a moment, Shouto’s stunned into silence. Then:

“What are you doing?”

Bakugou pauses, looking up from where he’s splitting his wooden chopsticks, giving Shouto a pointed look that says are you stupid?

“Are you stupid? What does it look like I’m doing?” he nods to one of the bowls on the tray. “Go on, I’m not gonna fuckin’ feed it to you, if that’s what you’re waiting for.”

Shouto’s eyes drift down to the tray, head cocking to the side when he sees the cafeteria plate of cold soba and matching bowl of sauce. He blinks, taken aback.

“That’s… Did you know this was my favourite?”

“D’you always ask so many goddamn questions?” Bakugou huffs, but Shouto can see the hint of a blush under his bruises. He shovels a spoonful of curry into his mouth, continuing ineloquently: “Are you gonna eat it or not?”

Shouto tries his best to fight back a smile, and fails, following Bakugou’s example of hiding behind a mouthful of noodles. He hums softly at the familiar, welcoming taste, chewing happily.

They eat, the silence settling around them comfortably in a way it never has for Shouto - silence has always meant the calm before a storm, the build up of tension, ready to fight or flee. But this just is .

Funny, that he’d find respite in a volcano constantly on the verge of erupting.

“Thanks,” Shouto says softly, not to break the silence, but just to pause it. Bakugou grunts.

“Whatever… they keep giving you hot soup to warm up your popsicle-looking ass, and there’s no way in hell you’re getting outta here before I do,” he doesn’t look at Shouto, but the smell of candy grows a little stronger. “I’m just tryin’ to even it out.”

Shouto lets himself smile, and grants Bakugou mercy in not questioning him further. The silence comes to rest once again, growing warm and peaceful in Bakugou's presence like the sweetest aftertaste, the gentle, ebbing memory of caramel on his tongue.

your last dabi gifset is so pretty! like the quality is so high! i love the colors and how 'clean' it seems. i was wondering if it would be ok to ask your secrets? my gifs so often turns out with shitty/pixelated quality, thought i gonna ask pro person for tips 🥺

well the first thing you have to make sure is to download the episodes on 1080p, when it comes to sharpening the gifs i always use smart sharpen with amount set on 500% (it depends on the scenes you want to gif tho) cause sometimes i use 150%, radius always set on 0,3px and gaussian blur on more accurate.

I believe not using so much vibrance and contrast on your gifs is important, they’ll look much better that way, oh and i always add gradient map (black,white) on soft light opacity 50% and it also depends on how you want your gif to look like!

31. if varric wrote a book about your inquisitor, how would they feel about that?

I love this question so much! xD I think Mahanon would be both happy and kind of horrified at the same time xD Mahanon definitely read all of Varric's books, and he really liked the ones about Hawke's misadventures. But Mahanon also knows Varric and how the man likes to exaggerate and put his own spin on the characters and stories and Mahanon would probably feel mostly embarrassed if Varric tried to make him into some kind of grand hero for his book. He's already got more attention than he ever wanted, adding to that is not likely to help in any way. But he'd probably still be kind of tickled about the fact that Varric decided to write about him, even if just for the hell of it. xD

39. if varric gave them a nickname, what would it be?

I've thought about this before and the first thing that came to mind was 'Kid'. Because of the way Mahanon is earnest and a little too serious when it comes to his responsibilities and also horribly curious. I think, from Varric's point of view it might seem like while Mahanon is doing a decent job at the whole being the Inquisitor thing, he's also one of those people who always come into danger of giving too much of himself for the sake of the greater good and like Mahanon could maybe really use someone whose only job or intention it is to look out for him and not the Inquisition and their goals. Those are important of course, but it won't help anyone if people just keep pushing and the man expected to lead them all into victory eventually just crumbles under all that weight. I think Varric would be the kind of guy to not only see all that but actually care, too.

I feel a little conflicted about the nickname now, since I found out that Varric actually calls Cole 'Kid', which of course fits wonderfully. And I do not want to take away from that. I have yet to come up with something better for Mahanon, though. This one just kind of stuck for me. It is what it is, I suppose.

Ok, it's going to be very random but I love your takes on stuff/hcs/ideas and I had this weird idea recently and wanted to hear your opinion? Ofc feel free to ignore if it is too dumb.

Since some people think that the note Stain gave to AM might reveal the traitor or give some information about them (on the other hand it would be a very "i dont care i wanna fast end this manga" on hk part imo) I (and here we go with random light bulb moment) thought what if it was about Hagakure? I know it is common and maybe boring that she is a traitor, but what if she wasn't really a teen? Since no one can see her she could be at any age. That would also explain how she made it thought entrance exam not having any physical powers (invisibility doesnt rly give you strength against robots doesnt it?) but if she was trained before, like some special training? It wouldn't be her decision to work for AFO to gain something (like some theories said she might want to get ride of her quirk and he could help her if she helps him) but more like she was one of his people right from the start?

So I was just curious if you think it makes any sense or it is actually dumb? And also if you recently thought about who could be a traitor? With how manga is going without any... significant action right now I was just a bit bored and thought of bothering you with this. Sorry in advence?

Also, no worries I always to make theory and just say dumb stuff on this site so you are always welcome to join in on my madness of course! Actually, I am one of the first people who thought that the paper that Stain gave to AM is either of these things: something about AfO's plans, some detail about the Quirks AfO/OfA or the identity of the UA Traitor (which, in my opinion would be time to reveal once and for all). As for Hagakure being the traitor, your theory is interesting and compelling. It makes absolutely sense and it would be a good plot twist when it comes to the narrative because as your nicely framed, it is stalling a lot (but I am not sure of how long will that last, because I think that finally we are at the end of the current arc and we will interesting stuff soon, hopefully - unless Hori makes a detour and focuses again on Izuku, Bakugou, Uraraka and Shouto preparing to save the villains), and we have not discovered anything crucial and it just has been emotional, but boy so long. Hagakure, however is such an insignificant character and I am afraid that exactly plays to her disadvantage: Hori made a pretty big deal out of its it would not hit as hard narratively is she was the traitor, notwithstanding the narrative behind it (in which case, I think your version of it would be great to read honestly). I am still fixed on the possibility that Nezu is the traitor, because he has the timing  and the means, but as well I think it might make sense if it was one of the kids (it would be interesting if it was Kirishima or Tokoyami, because I mean how convenient is it that Kiri had brought with him night vision glasses when they did not even know where they were going). Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea (which I think could be applied to other character, whose Quirk might be similar to Toga’s) and yes, I believe all AfO’s people did receive training, to mix in and spread the word, and I think that for Ujiko make some changes in Hagakure’s aspect might be pretty easy because you are right when you say that invisibility is not as good as a Quirk, especially when it comes to offensive power (well, she could use the light of the sun and reflect it, but still). 

Also no idea is ever dumb! There are just ideas explored and unexplored one, and then dumb takes (which have nothing to do with you, so no worries!). I am just glad you shared this with me! I hope you are having a great day!
