Wrapping up the anniversary week of the story I've been flooding your dashes with for 9 years. And want to share a few things.
If you're just starting on a storytelling journey, don't give up. Especially if its what you want to do. Don't let anyone discourage you (including yourself). You are allowed to change your mind about the direction of your story, the path of your characters and anything else you choose. Its dope to be inspired by other storytellers however be careful not to copy/paste (it happens more than you think). Instead, use that inspo to create something uniquely yours. I get inspired by others all the time but will remix what I see to work for me (and always give credit where its due). Hype up your story! Ask questions, make posters, do update reblogs if there's been a long gap, talk mad shit about your characters and have fun. You don't need a certain aesthetic or follower count, all you need is an active imagination, an OC or two or three, time and a little energy.

Sapphire: Well, of course, my late husband made much of our fortune in the norther mines of Stollenburg. That’s where the stone game from- The Star of the North, he called it.
Sapphire: Now, of course, I’m not careless with my things. I have top notch security, and I keep all my jewels in a state of the art safe hidden in my room. But I don’t own such a beautiful piece not to wear it, of course, and so I wore it out for the annual Rose Wine festival.

Hi! How long have you been playing sims? I am new to this “simblr” thing on here and your account was suggested! You have a very beautiful feed and if you have any tips on how to start, share!! 🌈🤍
hello, and happy pride month to you as well :)
thank you! and I started playing ts4 in February but I’m not new to the sims, the last time I played was 9 years ago on my Wii U.. so when I learned about custom content and all that I felt soooo left out LOL
honestly I’m not the best person to ask, literally today and a couple weeks ago I thought of quitting and ditching the game tbh haha.. but I guess the best advice I can offer is not to worry too much about how many followers you have on here or anything like that bc it gets very annoying. other than that, just be as unique as possible and enjoy the game!

hiya! any tips on creating an immersive save that will attract not only you as the player but others as the viewers? your aesthetic is stunning and im so obsessed with everything you do!! <3
oh wow, this is a super sweet ask, @plumday.
let's see. I interpreted this as an ask about how I setup my sim save in a way that engages me. Hopefully this is helpful!
Setting Up TS4 Gameplay
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Revamp Sim Worlds
BRAVE THOSE LOADING SCREENS and leave your residential lot! (I promise it's worth it)
NEW LOTS - Each of my worlds have been renovated with lots I handpicked from the gallery - too much work? I recommend using a savefile! Here are some of my personal faves @ratboysims 1, @down-in-simsland 2, @folkling 3 & @sweetbeagaming 4.
RESIDENTIAL RENTAL - these lots help make the world feel more dense and lived in, plus condensing the local households to 1-2 lots leaves room for more non-residential lots to explore with your sims.
WORK AND SCHOOL - I recommend placing offices, schools, and daycare lots. These combined with a few mods (semi-active custom careers and Zerbu's go to school mod 2) and clubs are something I really enjoy.
Set Up Clubs
I really like @sojutrait's tutorial on how to use clubs to enhance your gameplay and is a MUST HAVE in my humble opinion. I usually have a family chore club, work clubs, neighborhood clubs, extended family clubs, etc... and it's so nice to click a button suddenly there are sims there making my game more lively.
To have more than 3 clubs per sim, I use this mod maintained by @kingzaceofsims.
I also use custom club activities so sims (MOSTLY) behave how I want them to. @srslysims has tutorial on how to make your own.
To be able to have club gatherings in vacation worlds I use this mod. It was helpful with sending my pixel kids to camp.
Set Up the Calendar
@aliennooboo made this AMAZING tutorial on setting up your sims calendar that I just adore. I find this helps me remember to do things with my sims and helps change up their day to day life.
Playing
ROTATIONAL GAMEPLAY - I find this keeps me engaged and prevents boredom. It keeps things fresh and allows me to explore different stories. Here is a great resource to get started!
GAMEPLAY MODS - I find adding various mods keeps my gameplay fresh and interesting. I recommend these creators (1, 2, 3, 4 & 5) in particular.
Screenies
POSES - As a gameplay person, I try to use poses sparingly. It disrupts the game for me but I find sometimes I can't convey what I want to without them, so I try to only use a few. This is what works for me, please do what works for you. Shout out to all the storytellers blogs, though, that keep me fed.
RESHADE or PSD files can add some fun color and effects to screenies. ONLY edit as much as you want to. I felt a lot of pressure to get better at this and I am finally finding the balance of how much and what kind of editing I actually like to do. I have collected reshades/gshades and resources here.
House Keeping
Keep back ups of your trayfiles, screenshots, households, lots, etc 'cause it's sims, things break and go wrong.
Keep your CC and mods organized otherwise fixing your game is a hug pain.
Reblogs and additional tips and recommendations welcomed!
HAPPY SIMMING!

Hey can i ask you ? Do you create new world while you playing historical event or just go with the one which is already in set (like willowcreek or smth)... I'm just newbie to the game and i immediately joined decade challenge so idk how to do it
Hello there, Nonny! Welcome to simming and playing the decades challenge! 🥰
Unfortunately we cannot create new worlds in TS4. However, people who play historical will generally redesign an in-game world or neighborhood to look more like the decade of their choosing. I am currently playing in Willow Creek and Magnolia Promenade, which I have set up to look like 1920s New Orleans.
This usually involves either building lots yourself, finding them on the gallery, or here on Tumblr. You can begin in any world you want but I find a lot of people start in Windenburg, Henford, or Bridleton Bay. I have a decades challenge starter that you can download here which could fit in a number of worlds.
The wonderful @antiquatedplumbobs is also working on a save file for anyone beginning the Decades Challenge. She doesn’t have a release date yet, but she’s in the final stages so it’s worth looking out for.
I have also answered a few other asks that may be helpful to you or anyone else beginning the challenge:
List of historical builders
Other historical storytellers/gameplay blogs
Best packs for historical gameplay
Tips for beginning the decades challenge
I hope this answered your question and is helpful! Happy simming! 💕

Do you have any tips for getting into/making sims stories? (Idk what to call them lol, but like your strangersville story), and tips for taking posed screenshots because I’m struggling-
Hello, friend! 🤗
I am so genuinely flattered that you would ask me for advice. I'll admit, I've only been officially on simblr for a little over a year and I'm just getting a groove in posting, so I'm still learning about the storytelling format and posing aspect, too. Here are some really great posts that helped me:
@seaslugsims: Storytelling Resources Part 1
and Storytelling Resources Part 2
Storytelling Tips and Tricks thread started by @citylighten (Check the reblogs on this one - so many amazing, experienced creators have weighed in on their personal tips and tricks)
I hate posing sims, but I've found that it just takes practice and patience. @ts4-poses is a great resource blog for finding poses because it is organized into categories, making finding a specific pose less overwhelming. Put all the sims you need for a story post in the same household so you have full control of them all. Ravasheen's ISO Camera for in-game photos is what dreams are made of because the photos always come out perfect and no one has to be behind the camera to take the picture. When taking photos using the tab key, take them from multiple angles so you have a lot of options when editing your posts.
I also would say don't be afraid to just keep asking for advice! If you see a post you like, don't be afraid to ask someone how they did it! I've learned so much just by going to creators like "Hey, this post you made was so great... what editing do you use? Do you use a reshade/gshade shader? Do you resize photos?" You can learn a lot from others, and over time with practice (and a lot of trial and error) you will gain your footing and develop a style of your own!
Now, onto where I have personal experience: getting into stories and making stories! For me personally, a good story is all about characters and world building. Because simblr stories give you an opportunity to show varying perspectives and focus on more than one character's viewpoint (kind of like a comic or TV show), you can best take advantage of that by writing in-depth characters you love (or love to hate, lol). Knowing the setting and how the characters fit into that setting is really the backbone of any good story, and if you care about the details and you care about those characters, your audience will feel that! Also knowing what you like to write helps, too! I like sci-fi, fantasy, and coming of age; I like mysteries and love stories are my lifeblood (I'm a hopeless romantic); and I am a sucker for a good found family trope... so that's what I write! You'll never catch me writing horror stories full of loss, or adult romance stories, nor am I gonna pop out a teen drama (yk like Degrassi-esque or Disney Channel) or something cutting-edge/dark/with a strong visual aesthetic (like Euphoria) because I know that's not my thing (and editing is not my strength - I would HATE spending hours editing posts where some others might love that part of the process. I don't write or create something because I think it will be popular or on-trend or garner viewership (even though wanting validation is not a bad thing imo) I just create to create. I create using my strengths first, and I would recommend you write to your strengths and don't feel like you have to rush the process.
My biggest piece of advice is that if you have a story to tell, tell it! Trust me, someone (or a lot of someones) will love it. You may only get a few views at first, or it may take off right from the jump, but regardless your story is worth telling. Start by just opening a google doc and jotting down ideas as they come to you until one sticks. Don't be afraid to shelf what doesn't work or what you're not feeling any more. My Strangerville story was not my first venture on simblr, but it is the only one I have loved enough to keep up with.
Lastly, please let me know when you do put your story out there. You've already got one fan!!! 📣💕

Hi! I love your posts and your gameplay so thought I’d ask you this and see if you have any advice :)
I’m doing a lil simple story with some gameplay aspects into it, and i’m wondering if you have any tips on how two potential love interests could meet, for the first time? Like occasions/places/situations? Story/pose wise (poses to use to make a specific situation or encounter) and also like gameplay wise (where they could meet in game through gameplay, like events, places or other stuff that happens when you play) hopefully that makes sense! Thanks a lot!!
Oh wow, it's actually kinda been a while since my sims have actually gone through anything like this, tbh, so idk if I'm really the person to ask, but...
Probably my most recent memory of any kind of meeting was between Zachary and Blake, and technically ( in my head ) they already knew one another in high school, but when I began playing them, I literally just threw a bunch of other sims with them into one big lot, and let the game decide whether they would "find each other in a room full of strangers" is one way to put it. They did, crazily enough, which is funny bc I was actually expecting one of them to go for Heather, but they went right to one another and began flirting almost immediately.
I'm kinda weird though, and I kinda like it when sims just interact organically, despite my headcanon, plans or expectations. The Sims 3 is incredibly chaotic compared to The Sims 4 when it comes to this, the sims in it are a bit more complex I guess... compared to TS4 sims imo, but the attraction system is kinda garbage, luckily their traits kinda do most the work when it comes to actual compatibility... like I wasn't really expecting Oba to find someone while at college, but he met Mika at a party, and they just really hit it off, so I kinda just jumped off of what happened in my game, bc TS3 is kinda about that anyway, it's a very... team effort kind of game, the player has control, but it can also pick up where the player leaves off if they want, and quite well if you manage to capture your sim/character well enough through traits.
Now, as for strictly posed, story focused, and planned meetings honestly it's really up to you. Find inspiration from some of your fav romantic media, whether it be books or TV, and don't let anyone tell you anything is too cliché, it's romance, it's supposed to be a little bit cliché, love is kinda corny sometimes and that's okay.
Outline an idea, gather the cc you need, there's sooo much cc out there for sims storytellers, it isn't even funny, and a lot of it you can easily find on cc finds blogs through their tags systems if they've got it, and for starters, why not hit up @ts4-poses? Then decide whether you wanna control the entire event yourself, or if you'd like the game to make a go at it. You can always exit without saving if things don't go as planned, no one will know ( how will they know, lol ), or hell, if it doesn't go as planned, and your sim flirts with Don Lothario at the romance festival instead ( like an old sim of mine did ), who's to say that isn't the start of a beautiful romance, or a doomed one... it's up to you!

I decided to put together some gameplay mods and overrides I use primarily for storytelling! I recently had someone ask if I had a resources page on my blog, and while I don't (yet), I hope you and others find this cool list helpful. Full disclosure: there are several lists out there of must-have-mods, these are just ones that I use in my game that allow me to tell stories the way I'd like.
Overrides:
Food Textures - Utopia Sims (this creator stopped retexturing foods awhile ago, however all of their links are still active. I will get into actual food mods later, however I find these to be boss).
Stereo Dance Override - This overrides the basic stereo dances that come with the game. I believe there are 35 different dances (preview).
Earbuds Override - I use these which replace the one that came with the Fitness Pack.
Coffee Art (works with tea, too!) - Overrides the default black coffee or tea. Only choose one.
Kitchen Sponge - Just a cuter version of that yellow blob they use to wash dishes.
Cutting Board - Overrides the default cutting board in game, choose only one (I use version 1) its the little things, you know?
Knife Override - Same as above except just a cleaner version of the knife your sims are always flipping up in the air whilst prepping food. Again, the little things.
Billboard Overrides - Just a cool replacement for billboards that make for pretty cool pics.
Illness Blush Override - Gets rid of the spots and stripes that come with a sick sim and replaces it with a body blush. Realistic touch for storytelling when your pixels catch a cold or another nasty virus.
Dirty Plate Override - Because who leaves a clean plate behind after they eat?
Ceiling Override - Replaces the in game ceilings indoors with a variety of pretty cool swatches. Choose one but keep the folder somewhere so you can switch out when you want.
No gloves while boxing - I use this for realism. One of my OCs used boxing as a way to relieve stress. But he was a beast so, gloves? Nah.
Natural Knitting - If you're tired of the rainbow yarn, this override changes that to a neutral color.
EA Default Teeth Override - exactly what it says.
Beer instead of juice for coolers - This one I made myself lol. In my story, my OC's mom lived in a trailer park and was always outside watching TV next to a cooler. Well my OC had a drinking problem so I recolored the "juice" into a heineken. The things we do for our stories... anyway, you might get some use out of it.
Tumblr media
Randoms:
No Bike Helmet (there are several of these, I use one by Scarlet but their website is giving me virus warnings now. Check lilmisssam and the guy I linked)
No ZZZs while sleeping
No Mosaic
No Music Notes
Toddler No Sparkle
Hide Lot Trait Head FX
I'll do a list of essential mods later!! Hope these come in clutch, friends!

The Writing Medium You Don’t Know About
In several of my YouTube videos, I discussed the different mediums creative writers could experiment with to tell stories. I went over categories like film, television, comic books, poetry, web serials, and so on, but there’s one category I wanted to discuss further.
When I say “medium,” I’m not referring to genre, or even writing type (such as blogging or copywriting). Instead, I’m talking about the media form you use, such as writing a book versus a film, or a web comic versus an epic poem. Though storytelling is an old art, the way we actually tell stories is evolving all the time. Some of these mediums are relatively new, having only come into existence within the last two decades. After all, much of the mediums we know and love now - web comics, web series, or web serials - only, as their names imply, exist because of the relatively recent birth of the internet.
The medium which hasn’t gotten mainstream attention, though, despite having an ever growing community, is the Sims story medium. Most creators writing plot lines for their characters do so out of fun, but if you’re making characters, planning plots, and putting together narratives, you’re a writer.
It’s strange, because nobody refers to the authors of Sims stories as “writers,” despite the fact that’s what they are. Most writers posting online learn quickly that few care when you post your chapters or share your characters - unless you’re offering writing advice, or you’re famous, you can end up ignored.
Yet the Sims story category seems to be an exception to this on some level. Creators share snapshots of their OC’s, obsess over their OC’s wardrobe choices, and post original story lines...and people love it. If you tell a Sims story, people will actually give your story a chance.
It’s kind of like writing fanfiction - there’s a built in fan base, but the difference with the Sims community is that they’re engaging with your characters, your world, and your story. Other than the Sims packaging, it’s your original content.
I make this post because I want to open writer’s minds to the possibilities there are for your work. There are so many mediums open to you, and I encourage you to experiment with them all - especially if you’re in a creative rut.
Writing Sims stories does come with some barriers to entry, if you’ve never touched the game before. For one, there’s the steep cost of the expansion packs when taken together. For another, there are the vast swaths of mods you’ll need to download to populate your world with the furniture, clothes, props, and hairstyles you’ll need to populate your paracosm. Finally, there’s the learning curve. You’ll have to learn how to use poses, how to build sets, and how to dress your characters (this last one sounds simple, but every character should have a distinct style and colour palette). The most advanced creators even add their own lighting and photo shop their pictures, but plenty of popular creators just stick with the game’s default look too.
This medium won’t be for everyone. I only mention it because seeing the work people have put out has opened my eyes to what storytelling can be. There is no right or wrong way to tell a story. Some writers put out novels through a traditional publisher, while others share content through video games (even before the Sims, Rooster Teeth - also known as the creator of the RWBY show - was using Halo to tell stories through it’s Red VS Blue series).
Experiment. Find what you love. Then stick with it. You don’t have to write novels to call yourself a fiction writer.
