#IVE NEVER WANTED TO GOUGE MY BRAIN OUT AND STEP ON IT A BILLION TIMES EVER READING A BOOK MY GODDDDDDDD #it was just so fucking good and i was into it every second of it and i ate that whole book up in two days #staying up until 2am like i didn’t have work before AND 500 PAGES STILL WERENT ENOUGH I WOULDVE READ A THOUSAND #GOOD GODDDDDDD #ive never felt this way abt a book ever and if u told me i’d go this psychotic over a fantasy book i would’ve punched u in the face #i read acotar just before this and i thought it was good but this ….. i’ve been listening to/watching many (many, many) reactions to steven universe (because that’s what you do when you become newly obsessed with something. see what everyone else thinks about it and drive yourself mad) and it’s so interesting to see all the unique ways people tackle it and the common threads between them all.

there’s podcast recaps (pressure to over-analyze) vs youtube reactions (pressure to overreact). everyone knowing the show (yay) vs fans guiding newcomers (interesting) vs everybody being blind (often disastrous). don’t mind silly fun? they love the first season and amethyst’s character. told about how ~deep~ it gets and expecting only that? they love pearl and have to be dragged through the beginning. even how they chunk the episodes affects things—in watching episode-by-episode, people go the most mad as they try to squeeze meaning out of episodes they can’t yet appreciate until later (or are just. bad at analyses.). in chunks of two, people assume su will have much more horror after watching frybo and cat fingers back-to-back. and chunks of 5 are completely different too!

this only skims the surface. i can watch any episode of su and point out which jokes usually make people laugh, what people pick up on, and how their opinion of the situation reflects on whether they have mommy issues.

tonight while watching tv with my sibling, I got so upset with the show that I actually screamed “no” and ran from the living room to my bedroom

#absolutely booked it #and it’s funny bc my sibling had seen the show before #so they knew what was coming after #but I was just like “I’m done I don’t want to watch this anymore” #anyway I did go back #but I got so viscerally angry just from looking at the screen #that I got up and started shouting again and walked to the kitchen to get a snack before coming back #and by then I’d calmed down enough to realize it was probably a fake out #and it was #so that’s why my sibling wanted me to keep watching #also because it was the last episode #anyway the show was good and I enjoyed it but mainly I just got that upset bc the things were happening to my two favorite characters #like I wasn’t that invested in the show as a whole to warrant what was frankly the biggest reaction I’ve ever had to a show #but I just loved those two characters #void thoughts

#been thinking about all the things I’ve been through in life and how I finally feel like I’ve come out the other side altogether #and am back on my upward trajectory with a med regiment that works #and idk #I forget just how much of a roller coaster my life has been since birth and how much shit I’ve been through #and I’m really really proud today of how far I’ve gotten in spite of it #like yeah I really did all that #and now that things have settled down and are stabilizing #like ACTUALLY stabilizing for once - normally I feel fine and a depressive episode hits me like a freight train #but when it last hit we made a med switch and it like evaporated the depression #which normally lasts for one to two months but was gone in a week after the med change and hasn’t returned #I just. I don’t know. I still have work to do and I anticipate more med changes will be necessary dosage wise to fine tune things as I go #but I’m finally out the other side and no longer a slave to my mental health #and even though I’m in a rough position in life having to care for my mom and pay her rent on a grad student budget #I understand now that this is nothing compared to everything else I’ve been through #and I’m actually on an upward spiral getting my life back #no more constant anxiety of everything being thrown for a loop because I finally got the right diagnosis and meds #for the first time in a literal decade I can invest in developing my skills again #and I know that I can be successful at that because I mastered skills I needed even through bipolar episodes and crippling depression #like holy shit even when my mental health was out of control I taught myself how to code and mastered our research software #and now I’m the lab expert #imagine what I can do now that symptom flare ups won’t wreck my entire life anymore #I’m taking this energy and investing it in writing and drawing and learning language #and even if it’s a slow process I’ll actually grow and improve. I know that about myself now. anything is possible #I feel like that Naruto scene where Lee took his weights off and they make that explosion when they hit the ground #I’m just in awe of all the doors that have opened up for me. Life may be hard still but holy crap I can finally EXPERIENCE it for once #I can’t wait to see what this next year has in store for me. the sky’s the limit
