i used to have a tumblr post that was a masterlist but then I started writing/posting at such a consistent pace that it was hard to keep updating it and, by the time I finally went to update the list, I had posted like 15 fics and I just didn't want to do it anymore lol.

and then i had a masterlist page on my blog but tumblr updated their html coding rules or whatever the fuck and now I can't edit it soo

and by this point I've probably posted, like... 50 new fics so even if I could edit it, I just don't have the emotional or physical energy to <3

the best way to write is however ur little heart desires obviously but personally subjectively pettily i think that most of the time people would be better off just writing how they talk

#generally. the way u talk will sound correct in a way that sentences u write down and consciously try to make Correct or Fancy will not #the more complex and poetic u try to get with it the less good ur words r gonna sound #theyre gonna be Off bc u are not used to speaking that way and the grammar doesnt come naturally to u #also generally like. elevated language and whatever is like. theres a time and place? and when ur just getting started #its really hard to tell when is an appropriate time or place #protip tho the correct place is generally not an ao3 summary u wanna be plain as hell there #itll sound better and itll grab my attention personally which is obv your main concern always all the time #obv im speaking from a very particular perspective and experiences vary based on this n that #nd like.. grammars made up yknow. if ur words sound weird to me bc the grammars off that doesnt make the writing BAD #but in the exact same vein tho just bc the way u talk isnt grammatically perfect doesnt mean thats a BAD way to write at all! #far from it! #and i feel like thats a big part of why ppl dont just write how they talk is theyre like. well i dont talk correct i talk casual #and like sure but whats wrong with casual in writing? u can still convey a hell of a lot w casual #nd maybe its harder to convey what u want or to strike the right tone writing that way nd that's fair but like #dismissing that sort of writing style out of hand on the basis it isnt proper writing is so silly #when like i said originally it often sounds MUCH BETTER than going for a really formal poetic high fantasy or oldtimey kind of vibe yknow #anyway. end yell

I had a big life update what with my sib graduating grad school (getting their masters degree) at the same time we both moved like 2 states over from our home state 😅

and unfortunately, i wasnt able to get my monster of a sequel out in time to post it remotely to get it out to you guys while i was afk

(as i havent had wifi/free time consistently in like 2-3 weeks)

which, phew, im finally able to be settled in one place enough to write again, and have enough time in the day to not be dealing wiht my apartment to write ToT

They've grown but in different ways. Akemi, in taking life by the reins n being assertive and strong and so dangerously intelligent like shes always been but now, now its crucial to be that. And Mizu in realizing that she truly, truly wants to be loved so badly but to be loved is to be vulnerable and thats what scares her the most, to be weak; but ure only strong if u can be weak too, and thats what she learns. And i think this is where they really get deep into their feelings. Before it was a crush, an annoying one. Now? Oh bby theyre down bad. Yes they are.

i enjoy your fics and a select few other authors because your ideas are actually original and not a regurgitation of the same plot line (ex. tarte tatin, ET, divinitus by imdamagecontrol, and soul by soliloquy_dawn just to name a few)

also absolutely NOT hating on other authors whatsoever it’s just very common for people to essentially reuse the same ideas as it can be very hard to come up with something completely off the wall and different (i’m writing a fic myself so i know it can be hard to think of funky stuff to stand out)

i think it's important to remember that fanfiction is often very self-indulgent and not intended to be measured by standards of originality or popularity, not publically at least. i mean it's about enjoying writing, putting something out for others to read and not necessarily the pursuit of 'fanfic writer ao3 renown/hits/kudos etc' which i just see happen so much. this isn't novel writing. like your compliment is appreciated but there's this (maybe subconscious) backhanded tone to it which uplifts us at the expense of other writers! of course you're entitled to your personal views and preferences espcially when it comes to fanfics and writers but id much rather that such comparisons arent written in public /or/ my askbox! :) fanfiction isn't a commercial product, yknow? it should not be critiqued like an actual novel you paid for, even if fanfic titles and authors are omitted. because even if they are, it still perpetuates this harmful mindset that fanfics can be remotely compared to novels (which also leads to fanfic writers being pitted against each other!) it's as dawn said: No one owns ideas and it’s supposed to be a communal effort, we are all bouncing off each other here and learning as we go

of course this doesn't mean committing plagiarism. you could write a the bear au, cooks jegulus, etc and id eat that up! but if u literally replicate the storyline then, yea, that's theft and not nice!

u really flatter me but tbh I don’t think there’s any real metric for good it’s just - like if I could give any writer advice it would be to play to ur strengths!! AND play to ur desires!!! if ur great at dialogue make your story dialogue forward, have that be the driving force of most plot points, if you’re very good at symbolism and like making stuff flowery fertilize away!!!! ensure that what ur making is something you would love and want as a reader ifl is an important thing. its like. obviously there’s time constraints for everything and stuff, people have busy lives, it’s hard to maintain energy levels high enough to write let alone review ur own work, but i do genuinely think i spend more time reading over and trying to Experience my writing than i do actually writing it out. also I do a lot of rewriting. not everything needs to be rewritten or improved upon, u could have banger scenes that u wrote in one go and barely changed, or you could have banger scenes that u revised and grappled with multiple times… at the end of the day a banger is a banger…!! even if it takes over a year. which is what happened with me…! JFJSJDJD

Even looking at this makes me ill. And then, out of morbid curiosity (and also reading bad works give me self esteem abt my own) I wandered into no man's land.

I read exactly one chapter and ended up over the toilet, genuinely being sick.

I wouldn't wish reading this fic on Ted Bundy his fucking self. If Jarl from my fic saw this, especially because of his backstory, he would actually have a panic attack. Even Canon! Jarl would cry at this, I think. Hell, if you shown the grave of Matthias this, he would raise from the dead, shoot you, and then shoot himself again.

Now say what u want abt hate posting but that night I learnt that, while as an individual who's close to a psychopathy diagnosis, I can't feel strong anger, fear or sadness, I can feel disgust. She was supposed to replace Dawn by possessing her body(courtesy of Zoroark mother) until Dawn's soul collapsed under the weight of Akari's Zorua soul, but that didn't end up happening because Akari ended up being aware of the nature of her existence way too early(woke up while Zoroark mother was putting her in Dawn's body), started hopping out of Dawn's body and letting her take the reigns again, and then shapeshifting into a copy of her, and they ended up living as twins! Johanna was surprisingly chill about this because I like when characters are nice to each other

So Dawn took the champion title at the age of 12, Akari(named after the Hero of Hisui, which she then ironically became) never was much of a battler so she mostly hung out on the sidelines and cheered her sister on

Then when the two of them were 15, Akari gets eeby deebied to Hisui and Dawn has an entire breakdown in every possible way, does everything she can to try and get her back(and fails) and eventually gives up the Champion title back to Cynthia so she doesn't just completely lose her mind

She goes out across the Highlands to look for someone or something to help, mistakenly believing that because she is now baby, wild Pokemon will not try to attack her

We all know the story of PLA(i think), Akari still gets amnesia but she's still in her human disguise which becomes her default, so she doesn't remember that she's a Zorua until the Red Sky, when a Hisuian Zoroark confronts her about her still being alive when the rest of them had to die first to even get a chance, and she doesn't know what it's talking about for a while. Then she decides "if i can't become something else, it means i'm human and they were wrong"

But then she becomes a Zorua. And can't figure out how to turn back because she hasn't shapeshifted or known she could shapeshift for months

She gets beat up three different times and almost swept off the side of a cliff by a Gligar

Eventually Ingo finds her! And that's how he learns she's a Zorua, and subsequently helps her figure out her shapeshifting again! While they were practicing, she takes a form that mimics Ingo, then reverses it to look like "the man in white" which triggers Emmemories!!! Hooray!!! But then they have to go fight Dialga and Palkia at the Temple of Sinnoh so the joy is short-lived

Only a few people personally learn that Akari is a Zorua! Those people are Ingo, Rei, Mai, Lian, and Melli(I'm not counting Volo because it's in the middle of the Giratina fight and it's during his religious insanity so he's not paying that much attention)

The whole of Jubilife sort of vaguely knows Akari is a Fox due to an incident where she forgot to put her human disguise back up after sleeping in her quarters for once and answered the door for someone, complete Zoroark(she evolved sometime during or immediately after the Red Sky), but they've all kind of agreed not to tell Kamado due to the exile incident

Cyllene knows though! She's pretty chill with it as long as Akari doesn't suddenly go feral, which, she doesn't think she will. So it's sort of an open secret in Jubilife

Now from here on out, there are technically four ways the Zoroakari AU can go:

1.) Akari gets sent home by Arceus as normal, eventually reunites with her twin and her old friends, and with Ingo(and subsequently meets Emmet and Elesa in the process)

3.) Akari is not sent home, ends up wandering the Alabaster Icelands and runs into a pack of wild Zoroark. She ends up becoming their Noble Lady Zoroark(and she is motherfucking H U G E), and that's a whole nother story that I've actually written a fanfic about

2.) Akari is not sent home, whether by malice on Arceus's part for her being a Zoroark instead of human, or because she still has a role to fill. Either way, Ingo is sent home at her request, but she has to stay in Hisui. Three ways go from here. The first is that Akari goes back to the life she wasn't expecting to continue living, and exists in Hisui-and-then-Sinnoh for around 50 years. Then she fakes her death and starts region-hopping to hide her immortality(which she has due to ✨️divine intervention✨️) and brings her Hisuian team with her(mainly a Typhlosion and an alpha H-Zoroark, since both are ghosts and therefore don't die to age)

4.) Akari is not sent home, doesn't leave Hisui, and doesn't become a Noble. Instead, after a while, she notices Hisuian variants are starting to die out, and becomes a specialized breeder for them. She hides away in a forest near a coast at the very edge of the region, and sets up some pastures of her own to make a sanctuary where Hisuian variants still live to this day

One more thing before I'm done here: I subscribe to the Uncle Ingo headcanon <<<<<3

I actually started dating my current partner in part because we were talking about a fic we wanted to write together! 18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? It can be done well, but it needs to be considered deeply. Also, used sparingly. I like throwing in terms of endearment in other languages, but when it's whole conversations, it's not fun to be checking google translate/the AN every five seconds.

✄ what’s your editing process?

,,, yknow i dont think i really have one? like for oneshots and stuff i just sort of write it all down and try to see if it all Works for the character's POV and the story i want to tell. i try to break it up into segments so i can look over it piece by piece instead of slogging through the whole thing afterwards (cause i hate that and hating it makes me rush through it and that's how i make mistakes) but that's kind of it - for oneshots at least. for stories that i intend to keep adding to i want to make sure everything's followable, like character motivations and mental states and etc etc, so i go scene by scene and REALLY scrape over it. i have a bit in rbr4 that i've revisited at least eight times now because it's just not QUITE getting davey's motivations down the way i want. and then once i'm done analysing all those sections and fitting them together, i normally go to @rebuke-me for beta-ing just to make sure everything's flowing in an understandable way. i don't really do first and second drafts because i've already been drafting every scene bit by bit, so when i'm all done i just proofread as best i can and send it off to jupes if she's not too busy. unfortunately i do occasionally make some little mistakes (repeating a word or phrase too much, mixing up my metaphors, some small grammar stuff, etc) and i have a PROBLEM of getting too bogged down in little details that don't matter, but fanfictions a hobby, not a profession, and treating it like a profession is always what ruins it for me, so i prefer my casual editing process. it's not perfect, but i wouldn't be enjoying myself if it was.

✦ what was your easiest fic to write & your hardest?

ayyy this is. hm. probably 'matches' since it was so short, and i had the idea just kind of pop into my head fully formed. it's literally just one snippet of jack and davey's lives so it was pretty easy to get down. and the hardest is absolutely 'run boy run'. it's every single davey thought i've ever had written into a loveletter to my own autistic experience, which is... taxing, and on top of that it's a bit of a struggle to keep davey's motivations and character clear without projecting too much of myself onto him. but it's my baby and i love it dearly, and even if i don't get it all out perfectly it's still going to be my most treasured fic.

without a doubt this goes to the comment left by ao3 user 'tablesaltiv' on 'say you came on first (i think you came on fine)' - it's too long for me to feel comfortable putting it in this post, and honestly i'd feel a little vain even if i did, but it's probably the most reassuring comment i've ever gotten. i stopped writing fanfiction when i was around sixteen/seventeen due to a very VERY big personal spiral and didn't post any again until i was twenty. i was REALLY scared of posting 'say you came on first' because it was probably the most character-studyish thing i'd ever done before, and i was. very stupidly paranoid that i had completely misunderstood the characters and should just call it quits again - and then tablesaltiv left their very lovely comment saying that having seen the show live themselves, my fic felt entirely accurate. it was incredibly reassuring for me and filled me with a lot of confidence, and even though i know i'm never going to understand these characters FLAWLESSLY, i at least feel confident enough to think that i understand them well - and now i'm still here and writing a very ambitious fic that i'm worrying about a LOT, but i'm determined to finish anyways :) thank you tablesaltiv

the thing you said about the tumblr community we have here is so sweet though and it's more right than I think even I realized initially. it's really nice when I see regular askers/anons pop up in my inbox and get to catch up on tiny parts of your lives and then in turn you guys talk to each other—it's just so sweet y'know? the thing I really love about having such an active inbox especially with asks about my fics is that it's a lot easier for me to respond to tumblr asks than ao3 comments. I rarely reply to ao3 comments because it's really just overwhelming and then I'm like "well if I respond to one person I feel bad about not responding to everyone else" but sometimes I just don't know what to say or there's just too many comments y'know? I LOVE my ao3 comments they mean so much to me but it's really nice to have people come into my inbox here to tell me their thoughts on my chapters bc it gives me a chance to reply with my own thoughts in a way that feels a lot more like a discussion I guess

yes i'm very comfortable with smut - you can find a number of diabolik lovers smut fics on my AO3 such as reijiruki [1] [2] and subakou [3] [4].

so yuma is asexual in this fic, confirmed here. he doesn't experience sexual attraction and him and shu only have sex on rare special occasions (well, in a way). such as when shu watched yuma beat up shin, and when all of yuma's other brothers got laid the same night.

at first, shu would've been pretty reserved in the relationship, especially since it was "his fault" reiji spread the rumours about yuma in secondary school which tore shu and yuma apart when they were friends (and shu had a crush). so i imagine that despite making out and cuddling and stuff after they became official, the topic of sex didn't come up for a while.

shu would be scared of pushing yuma away for a while so even if he felt up for sex, he wouldn't being it up. yuma, on the other hand, hasn't even thought about it.

it's amusing imagining them having a heavy make out session and then when shu thinks they might get somewhere, yuma just pulls away and is like "a'ight that was neat. want a joint?"

eventually shu is going to think he's doing something wrong and it'd get to the point where he's now avoiding contact so yuma asks what's up, shu admits he doesn't know why he's not being intimate, and yuma is gonna have an enlightening moment where he's like "oh, shit. you want that? i didn't notice"

as long as shu knows it's nothing against him personally, i don't think he'd mind yuma being asexual. i mean, sex IS a hassle, yknow? and shu is lazy. so i think he'd be pretty content with just chilling until yuma decides he wants it, and then it's a fun one-off. besides, shu has a hand. if he's horny, he'd be happy getting himself off.

outside of sex though, i think they'd be relatively big on PDAs once they get there. i never wrote it a huge amount because shuuma was always kind of a side pairing (since they were already long together when it started) but they'd definitely walk around college holding hands, and shu's gonna be pressed up against his shoulder whenever they're sitting in the canteen together.

(loosely based off of outer worlds !)
