your opinions on udg are correct btw its one of the better danganronpa games and my fave, it runs like shit but god it has lesbians and a really interesting look into the world and whats happening inbetween thh and sdr2 its so fucking good i love komaru naegi so much
It’s a good game!! It gives Toko so much more character and her development as a character in that game is great! I think that game did a great job of making a villain that wasn’t the typical villain of the other games while also still kind of being the same villain? (Keeping it intentionally vague because spoilers). And idk I like dark plot lines and stuff and I love how that game didn’t shy away from “hey some kids get treated real fucking poorly by the people who are supposed to love them and now they’re angry about it.” And the kids’ stories are like pretty well based in reality so it adds some realistic elements that are truly horrifying to the sci-fi weirdo crazy elements going on that’s also pretty horrifying to be fair. And it always bugs me when people talk about it being ‘too dark’ or going ‘too far.’ Like I’m sorry, did you not also play the second game? The descriptions of the actions that the remnants did? That’s equally as fucked as anything that happens in UDG in my honest opinion. And you’re right, there’s lesbians!! When it comes to story, I really like UDG because I feel it fleshes out the universe a little more. No longer are you stuck in one place with no knowledge of the outside world for the entirety of the game, you are now in that outside world, and see first hand the kind of shit that was going on during/between the first two games. It’s good! And clearly I can go on and on about this so I digress.

So!
Tumblr media
I’ve seen ultra despair girls and besides tokomaru being my otp from that game ( bless them, we stan a toko character/redemption arc) , I always had one issue with the game with a specific character . From both a narrative perspective and a literal perspective, Yuta Asahina’s death was pointless. Not even in a “mwahahhaha despair be upon ye!” way just in a boring and let down way.
( we don’t even get to see Aoi react to her little brothers death and he was apparently her most important person ? Come on now, game developers:( )
so! In the heirs apocalypse au, given that the three of them went through towa city and Kokichi has some slight connection to the warriors, they manage to come across yuta. Kaede and Ouma get a bad feeling ( shuichi wasn’t a hope’s peak subject so the poor guy gets left out of that moment a bit, but he’s supportive ) and they intervene with yuta and co.
But Ouma can never do things in a boring way ( I’m the sense that it’s uncomfortable for him) and so he “kidnaps” Yuta . He then sees the bracelet on his arm. And the ultimate surgeon talent comes in handy. Literally lol. It’s abit imperfect considering they barely had any equipment ( thankfully plenty of pain killers and gauze!) but yutas hand is amputated and cauterized. Yuta understandably flips out when he comes to. Which satiates kokichi’s boredom somewhat . When yuta turns his anger ( rightfully) onto Ouma, he responds by chucking the bracelet in the same water canon yuta dies in where it promptly and dramatically explodes. Ouma did so because he wanted to both show Yuta just how much danger he was in and to also frame Yuta’s death so he was no longer on the radar. ( this also still keeps in tact Komaru’s reaction to his death like in canon, and also makes it sweeter when she sees him mostly okay later. It also showcases Oumas capability for framing and manipulation and general trickery.)After which Yuta travels with the trio because this is my au sandbox and I get to decide the survivors uwu.
He’s not exactly thrilled with it but he’s naturally optimistic at heart so he looks on the bright side ( that he’s alive and didn’t explode, basically) that they’re heading to the island ( without that horrible bracelet thank god) and the “Boss” (Ouma insisted Yuta call him that lol) said that he’d get to see his sister there. ( Ouma knows about the survivors and first killing game( as well as the second per hacking into the future foundations system) since it was all televised, although he hated every second he just wanted to watch Junko die.

Aoi Asahina
Aoi is always wearing a swim suit. She learned how to make donuts when she was little with her brother. He’s better at it than her so he always makes them for her.  The two would race all the time (spoilers) before he died. When Toko told her what happened Aoi refused to swim for a while. After the other survivors helped her she went back to the water. She still loves it but it’s a bit bittersweet now.
She’d always give Yuta piggyback rides. Which is how she’s so good at it with Naegi. Komaru apologized a lot when Aoi leaned of her brothers death, but even though she was mad Aoi didn’t yell and Komaru she just left.

Personally I think Komaru’s reaction the meeting the Warriors of Hope in person for the first time is a little too relatable because I too only can say “Uhhh ummmm uhhhh” when in a room with children. Doesn’t matter if they’re sociopathic villain children trying to rule the city, I still wouldn’t know what to say.

ughhh UFGGG IZURUS SCENE IN ULTRA DESPAIR GIRLS IS ROTTING MY BRAIIIINNNNN THE THEMES THE THEMES THE THEMES TH
when he crushes the kumas. to get junko ai to shut the fuck up. its a moment of genuine rage from him, because despite what he may tell himself about being emotionless, his rage toward junko is very real. we see that with his lines in the boat scene
but then junko says “i didnt know you still felt such emotions. or perhaps, you’re forcing yourself to feel something in a situation like this.”
AND THIS. THIS IS THE LINE THAT MAKES ME SO GUEUWGRJH. because maybe she’s right, maybe there’s something deep inside of him that WANTS to feel that rage but is too empty to, maybe that anger isn’t genuine and he truly is emotionless. but even so, is he truly emotionless if there’s still that subconscious desire not to be?
but. maybe she’s lying. maybe that rage is genuine, and this is her trying to make him QUESTION that. question the little bit of humanity left in him that’s able to shine through, in an attempt to rob him of it. ‘you just showed me emotion — but are we SURE that emotion is genuine? you can’t feel, after all.’ i think both options are equally intriguing.
but regardless of which is true — she’s still successfully messing with his head. even beyond the grave, she is still controlling him, and his anger has grown into such deep obsession that he goes out of his way to bring her back from the dead. so she can finally fulfill her promise of giving him something interesting. he hates her, and in that hatred he is continuing her legacy; he’s giving her exactly what she wants from him. and he’s smart enough to see that, but angry enough not to care. he’s not emotionless; chiaki taught him love and grief, junko taught him rage and obsession.
even when izuru escapes the lab and even when junko’s dead and rotting, izuru still doesn’t have free will. he is still being controlled.

Monaca really spent years being indoctrinated by Junko's ideology to become a member of Ultimate Despair, took over a huge robotics company through her own talent, and was so devoted to carrying on Junko's will even after her death to bring despair to the entire world that she would destroy the lives of the people closest to her to achieve her goals, then spent a couple days listening to Nagito Komaeda and thought he was so cringe she just. Quit the Ultimate Despair entirely.
The only thing more powerful than Junko's despair or Makoto's hope, is Nagito's cringe. Truly inspiring.

Who has been screwed over by the fandom more?
Propaganda below the cut
Monaca Towa:
her existence makes the game and its world more interesting, when you think about it she is the one who manufactured and designed the evil robots. Basically funding the destruction of the world for the only person she thought understood her. And she knows she was being manipulated and just is ok with that because everyone in her life is manipulative. Reading her diary one of her last pages is about how much she wants to die.And for a game about how adults should protect children, she is the only child to not get saved. I’m not saying she should’ve been redeemed she’s a manipulative liar, abuser, and murderer but her existence shows the corruption of this world.
I understand most people don’t like her. That’s understandable she’s completely and purposefully designed to be hate able but I love her. And the game is more interesting with her than without
Chara Dreemurr:
They were constantly blamed for killing all of monster kind in the no mercy route, despite players choosing to go that route. People ignored that they sacrificed themselves to attempt to free the monsters from the underground.
----
everyone wants to blame their own actions (genocide route) on chara, who is a literal child. i don’t know how to tell you this but you are the one playing the game. it’s about YOUR CHOICES. chara is there is punish you for that, you killed the only family that ever loved them! how could they not be upset at that! also if you don’t mind, here’s a good video essay on the subject

Hi!!
What is your opinion on servant/despair nagito?
AUGH! hello autism activating anon thank you from your ask!
Servant I think honestly is pretty well written and doesn't erase any of Nagito's character which I really love. Also he's in like the most bdsm outfit??? ever??? HUH?? it's kind of hilarious tbh.
Mostly, I really enjoy that as a Despair Nagito's beliefs aren't just erased. He's willing to do even more for hope than before, becoming despair himself, whereas before he seemed to have a limit he wouldn't cross. Which is honestly saying something since he thinks murder can be valid in the name of hope beforehand anyways.
I also like the funny detail that he's a servant with a chain on his neck at all times, but no one is really pulling the strings? Like, he's a "servant," to the warriors of hope but truly he has control over the situation. He chooses to stay there, if he truly desired to he could have left. His chain is there, he has the appearance of a servant, but no one is tugging on it, he's the one truly in control. Hopefully that makes sense lmao!!
I also thought that him seeing Komaru being a normal girl and knowing Makoto had hidden hope as a talent thinking she might have hope as well is pretty well written! It definitely makes sense why he'd think that.
Also, as weird as it is I actually really like how he looks as servant. The artwork for his sprites and the fanart I've seen is really awesome honestly!!
I used to think that he was just in Ultra Despair Girls for fan service, which probably a bit, but I do actually really enjoy how they use his role as a contributing antagonist properly. It's mostly expanding upon the idea of him as a Despair that we see in Chapter 0 of Danganronpa 2 with his love and hate obsession with Junko. He wants to be more involved than ever before and has no limit for how far he'll go, he actively will create the despair needed himself for hope to thrive. And that's so cool!!! It's basically pulling him and his beliefs their utmost extreme to explain how someone like him could become a despair, and the best part is that it makes sense! You can understand it given his character. He hates despair, so the only way he'd ever be okay with becoming despair is if it was in the name of hope, and that's exactly what they do!
I also think it's SO funny that out of all of the despairs, he's the most harmless out of them. Like, Sonia burned her own country to the GROUND, Teruteru ate his OWN MOTHER, but Nagito? He was just a servant to some weird terrorist kids, and ultimately was the main contributing factor to hope winning in the end. He brought Komaru so there could be a fair fight with Hope and Despair after all!
I think Mocaca's character after Ultra Despair Girls was kind of treated badly lmao, like, I feel like there was a lot of missed potential but they just threw her to the side because they never planned to do anything with her. However the Idea Nagito's ramblings just made her sick of the world is HILARIOUS though. Kind of Ironic that he saved her in hopes to be a successor to Junko for more hope to win in the end when his contributions led her to becoming nothing.
Also pretty Ironic that he KNEW what Izuru was going to do, and he wanted to see Junko again. But he never did, he died before he got to see what him as a Despair wanted to see. By his own hands nonetheless!!
Nagito as a Despair is really fucking weird with his outfit and all, but I actually really do love him. I really love the outfit, the approach they take to the only way he could become a despair with his beliefs, and his role in the story.
The brainwashing plot is a little clumsy, but I do enjoy that the way they treat brainwashing in the Danganronpa franchise is that the despair video manipulates your emotions. It doesn't overwrite anything, it just adds a desire to cause despair or excuses causing despair more. I think it's a little more realistic than just a whole bunch of teenagers being talked into becoming terrorists anyway.
servant you are iconic mwa <3

So this is random but how about a Sweeney Todd / Danganronpa Au. Anyone? Anyone?
First off the main characters Sweeney Todd and Nellie Lovett have to be a “couple” with one-sided affection and the other is coldly focused on their goals. Therefore…
Byakuya Togami as Benjamin Barker / Sweeney Todd. Without the money and power of the Togami family and the few things he did have in this life ripped away, he will make the people who crossed him pay.
Toko Fukawa is Nellie Lovett. Never had the opportunity to hone or showcase her writing talents, and ends up as the owner and chef of the worst pie shop in London (or Tokyo? *shrugs*). Becomes madly in love with the demon barber.
Masuru Daimon is Tobias Ragg (the adopted minion/son) went from abusive parent to these two, the only people to show him a bit of kindness, and becomes super loyal to them. Ends up being a part of terrible things he doesn’t fully understand.
Bare with me for the rest:
Kaede Akamatsu as Johanna Barker. I picked her because she is blonde, in a “later generation” to Byakuya, and cuz she is willing to kill if necessary like Johanna in the og musical.
Shuichi Saihara as Anthony Hope. He’s a heroic guy that is willing to break the law (like lying in class trials) for the greater good. But mostly to ship him with Kaede.
- [ ] You could argue that Makoto or even Nagito (depending on your interpretation of the og Anthony) would be a better choice but I feel like I would want to change who would be Johanna if that were the case.
Judge Turpin, Beadle Bamford, Adolfo Pireli are probably same variations of the Monokumas. I’d say Adolfo Pireli would probably Kurokuma due to his relationship with Masuru.
I’m not sure who should be Lucy Barker. I’m almost say Kyouko to explain Kaede’s purple eyes and lighter blonde hair but Kyouko is so smart she’d save the day in 5 minutes. Honestly I’m willing to take Makoto as a Lucy Barker candidate.
I’d love to hear people’s thoughts!
