#16. “Reader changes her Twitter bio to “Apparently I’m f*cking Corpse”

“I feel like we should make an announcement about our relationship.” You told Corpse.

It’s been a few days since his stream and the two of you were currently cuddled up on the couch binge watching some of Corpses favorite Anime’s.

“Didn’t I already make an announcement when I streamed?” Corpse asked you, turning his head to look at you.

“Wait let me rephrase that.” You said looking up to meet Corpses gaze, “I feel like I should make an announcement about our relationship. I mean I didn’t really say anything while you were streaming, I was just ther for moral support.” You said.

“Okay, I guess you could do something, but what would you do?” He asked.

“I’ve had something on mind for a while.” You said sitting up lifting your body off of Corpses and reaching for your phone on the coffee table.

You pulled up Twitter as Corpse watched you from over your shoulder.

“Oh you’re gonna make a post on Twitter.com okay.” He said nodding his head, and leaning back down on the couch placing his arm on the back rest.

“Oh no, no, no, my sweet innocent Corpsie. I’m not gonna make a post. I’m gonna make a statement.” You said going to your profile, and pressing the edit profile button.

“Don’t do anything stupid.” Corpse told you.

You hummed in response as you went to your bio and deleted the previous words, “I don’t know if I wanna die or cry.”, and you replaced it with something you’ve had on your mind for a while. You quickly typed out the words before saving the changes.

You placed your phone back on the coffee table before leaning back into Corpses’ embrace.

“May you please indulge me on what you did.” He asked you with a smile on his face.

“I mean you could always see for yourself.” You told Corpse attempting to keep the smile off of your face.

Corpse took his arms off of the sofa and reached for his phone next to yours.

He gave you a skeptical look before opening Twitter. He checked the recent tweets and haven’t seen anything from you.

“What did you do?” Corpse asked laughing.

“You have to like really look for it.” You told him, keeping your eyes on the t.v in front of you. You tried your hardest to suppress the urge to smile.

Corpse chuckled and continued tapping on his phone. It was quiet for a couple of seconds before he started laughing hard.

“You can’t say that.” He said through fits of laughter.

“Why not?” You asked, joining in his laughter. “We’ve been inactive for three months and people are gonna have a lot of more personal questions.”

“What if Sykkuno see’s it.” He told you.

“He’s not gonna see it, why would he randomly check my Twitter bio.” You responded.

“You know how stan culture is, people are gonna check your Twitter and see you changed your bio. Then people are gonna screenshot it and tag like a million people.”

“Okay so, it’s funny.” You said chuckling.

“It was kinda funny.” Corpse said quietly.

“See now all we have to do is let the shit storm take it’s place, and wait to see the aftermath.” You told Corpse, laying your head on his chest as he began to relax on the couch.

“That’s a terrible idea.” He said.

“It’s not gonna hurt anyone.” You said shrugging your shoulders.

Adventures at the Kitchen Table

Buck and Christopher help each other with homework.

Buck wasn’t quite sure how this happened.

Well, no, that wasn’t strictly true. He knew exactly how this happened. Chris asked if they could do homework together once. And Buck is the first to admit that when it’s something he can easily give, he’s powerless to say no to that kid.

Since the semester started, Buck finds himself sitting at Eddie’s kitchen table at least once a week, Christopher beside him, as they both work on homework. 

Buck could hear Eddie moving around the kitchen - putting groceries away, loading the dishwasher, the mundane tasks of home that he’d grown more and more used to over the last several months. 

There’s something peaceful about it, even though he mostly tunes it out. Gets lost in his readings and note-taking, in the papers he needs to finish and the research that goes along with them. 

He’s focused on the article he’s reading, two stacks of post-it’s on the table between him and Chris so he can jot down notes and points of interest that, but he still notices when Christopher shifts. It’s not enough to break his concentration though. At least not until a bright green square with question mark drawn in the center on it appears in the middle of his paper. 

Looking up, he finds Christopher smiling uncertainly at him. “What’s up, kiddo?” 

“What’s this word, Buck?” He scoots his paper over as Buck leans closer to see which word is tripping him up. 

“You can sound that out dude, I’ll help!” They work together, Buck’s finger hovering under the word, silently forming the sounds as Christopher slowly sounds it out. “I told you!” The pride on Chris’ face when he gets it, accompanied by a high five is everything. 

That becomes their normal. At least once a week, Buck sits at the table beside Christopher, both of them doing their own work until Chris has a question - usually he asks Eddie but sometimes, a post-it will appear in the middle of whatever Buck’s working on. 

He never minds the interruption - Chris is his favorite kid. And he could argue that it’s practice for later. 

Sometimes though, the post-it notes aren’t because Chris has a question or even given to him when they’re sitting together at the table.

Sometimes, Buck will find sticky notes with happy faces or scribbled drawing, or ‘Good Job Buck!!’ tucked into a binder or his pencil pouch, or even once or twice inside his closed laptop - though Buck is fairly certain those notes come from Eddie because Christopher knows not to touch anyone’s computer without permission. 

No one ever mentions those notes though and Buck keeps them tucked away, pulling them out sometimes when he’s questioning everything he’s doing. When he’s unsure that this future is the right one for him.

I'm in the mood for angst. Which of your fics would scratch that itch?

Nonnie, I was just about to schedule this when your anon ask came in! Hmmm, well. I think I have touches of angst in a lot of fics, but the angstiest one I’ve ever written is without a doubt my unrequited love fic, Soulmate, Dry Your Eye. It has two alternative endings and the second one is meant to offer comfort, too. I recommend taking that into account, I know I have one friend who likes her angst with less comfort, so she only read the first chapter. ;) My next angstiest, hmmmm. I’m not sure, I think it might be a tie between Falling, After (Buck reflecting on the night he fell when his rope gave out and what it came to mean to him) and Nothing So Gentle (A school shooting makes Buck realize his feelings, possibly a moment too late). Thank you for wanting to read some of my writing! I hope you like these! xoxoxox

Mr. Buckley is NOT an Asshole

Sometimes kids just need to blow off steam and have a snack.

There were some students Buck saw far more than others. Aaliyah was one of those students. And not because she was on his caseload - she definitely wasn’t. But she was in his co-taught math class, so he quickly grew familiar with her.

She’s smart - she could do all the work easily when she wanted to. But Buck quickly learned she had a lot of things going on outside of school. Things she rarely talked about with anyone but that were definitely part of the reason for her anger and outbursts and her occasional refusal to follow directions. 

Somehow he’d gained her trust, her respect, and Buck still couldn’t quite explain when or how he’d done it.

“I’m gonna punch Mx. Pickle in their stupid face.” Aaliyah stormed into Buck’s small classroom, heedless of the five students who had been working on late assignments during what was technically supposed to be his prep time. 

Buck wasn’t surprised to see her, honestly. She’d been pretty close to losing her cool when they’d been in class that morning -  it wasn’t really surprising that she hadn’t made it through the day. 

“Hey Aaliyah. I’m going to help Liam, okay? You can sit at my desk and I’ll talk to you in five minutes.” He knew better to engage with her or any student when they burst into his space like that.

He watched her drop onto his desk chair, reaching for the fidget he kept there specifically for her. “You’re all in here because you’re missing work,” Buck reminded the four kids who were still watching Aaliyah like they expected her to explode. 

He focused on Liam, with an occasional glance up to check on Aaliyah and the rest of his students, until they were both satisfied he could do the next few problems on his own. 

“We’re all working,” he reminded his class again as he crossed the small room to his desk, dropping into the chair set up at the corner of his desk. “You want to tell me what’s going on?” he asked, voice low. 

“Mx. Pickle is an asshole and I hate them,” she hissed, squeezing her hands tightly as she looked at him, eyes narrowed. 

“...right so they sent you here...” Buck could be patient, he knew from experience she would eventually get to what she wanted to say. 

She stared at him for a bit before sighing. “They sent me here because they said I needed to take a break before I got written up. It’s not my fault the stupid people in my group aren’t doing their freaking work and they’re not making them.”

Buck couldn’t immediately fix help Aaliyah, but he could offer her an alternative. “We have 15 minutes until the bell. Do you want to read in here and then I’ll walk you back to Mx, Pickle’s class or do  you want a pass back now?” He knew what she’d say, knew she’d stay in his room, knew she needed to stay. But it had to be her choice.

“I’m staying,” she said quickly. 

“Mr. Buckley?” her voice softened, some of the tension draining from her shoulder. 

“Aaliyah?” he asked as he rose to his feet.

“Can I have a snack, please? I didn’t get lunch.” Buck nodded once, turning his back as she pulled open the bottom drawer of his desk and pulled out a pouch of crackers. “Get a book and read, please,” he reminded her before walking away to help another student.

Blue Against Blue:

*  It was like a moment in a dream that one's trapped in, unaware and unable to wake up. A mass of built bodies running together along the stadium's track, somewhat scattered from leader to tail, but all running at exactly the same pace.

So Grows My Heart with Every Line:

*  It was all Frank’s fault, really. That bastard.

Dancing Where the Stars Go:

*  Buck was the Morning Star, beautiful and radiant, illuminating the skies every night with the confidence that all who saw him, loved him.

And Illuminate My Life:

*  When Christopher was younger and his father was away, protecting them from bad guys in a faraway land, and Chris had trouble falling asleep at night, he used to repeat internally a Spanish song his dad would sing to him.

Jerusalem Bells Are Ringing:

*  They’re naked in bed together, in Buck’s room, basking in the aftermath of sex. Eddie’s been caressing Buck’s body in lazy patterns when he gets to the chest tattoo.
