Bumped into reliable Dulaang UP administrative staff members Jesus (Jess) Lopez & Archie Clataro. UP has been fortunate to have dedicated and reliable administrative staff members like Kuya Jess (since 1979) and Archie (since 2009), who have served at the College of Arts and Letters for many years. Not surprisingly, Archie was named recipient of UP Diliman's Gawad Tsanselor para sa Natatanging Kawani two years ago. Kuya Jess, on the other hand, has worked in theatrical productions involving National Artists Salvador Bernal, Wilfrido Maria Guerrero, Amelia Lapeña Bonifacio, Bienvenido Lumbera, Antonio Mabesa and Rolando Tinio. They have played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of their office, handling various administrative tasks with efficiency and professionalism. Their years of experience and commitment have been invaluable in supporting faculty members, staff members, students, alumni, and visitors. Their hard work and dedication have been instrumental in maintaining high standards of excellence and reputation within the university community. We are grateful for Kuya Jess and Archie's continued service and look forward to many more years of collaboration.

letter to the sunset 7/6/23

today, i think i found a bit of myself again.

there's always something special with how the sun goes down in UP Diliman. it sinks down to its resting place in the west under the kind shade of trees aged by time, under the shadows of youthful skyscrapers down the lanes of Commonwealth Avenue, under the wide fields of green that surround the University Avenue, under the sounds and sights and movements of the people in the campus, turning their faces toward it and smiling as its gentle downfall gives rise to a spectacle of vibrant hues of orange and pink, of rays of light searing through eyeglasses and camera lenses, of silhouettes of things that stand before its fading glory.... of silence, solitude, and a quiet hope for a better sunrise on the next day.

the sunset reflects your soul.

it's how i finally saw myself again after all these months of blindness and darkness, of not knowing where to set my sight on and where to go, of losing the light that I longed for and needed to grow.

i hope i don't lose sight of the sunset again,

of who i am.

Welcome to UP Cats!

I created this page to share my love for the animal population of the University of the Philippines - Diliman, with a focus on its cats. This page's poster cat is Penny, a tuxedo girl from Palma Hall. Sweet and soft, she is loved by everyone in the building, hence serving as one of the poster cats of the building and UPD CSSP. She is also a mother of four or five kittens, nursing them amidst the ever-busy corridors and halls of the building. I love her and her children so much, that I would love to think of them as Palma Hall's La Sagrada Familia.

Ano na kaya tayo ngayon kung di tayo naghiwalay sa waiting shed sa UP??? Sa totoo lang we had the best time of our lives noon gala sa kung saan, foodtrip, etc pero sobrang immature pa natin somehow non, parehas nating di naisip yung future non, di tayo nag effort maghanap ng matinong trabaho o kaya naisip bumalik sa school. Wala lang.

Buti na lang talaga natulog na agad ako kagabi pagkatapos i-edit yung isang anon ask. Baka nagoverthink pa ako dito.

Para sagutin ang tanong mo unahin na natin yung pinili kong trabaho. Alam ko karamihan sa kakilala ko at kahit sa pamilya ko ay hindi maiintindihan ang pagiging professional gamer. Madalas sinasabi nilang walang pera dyan, wala kang makukuha dyan at kung ano ano pa. Kaso dito ako naging masaya, dito nabuo yung pagkataong meron ako ngayon at syempre kung hindi ang tinahak ko marami akong mamimiss sa buhay ko. Mabagal ang proseso pero okay lang kahit na hindi man ganon kalaki yung nakuha kong mga premyo pero masaya ako sa naranasan ko. Naging top leader board tipong sinasabayan kayo palagi, nagkaroon ng sponsor, nakabili ng sarili pc para makapagstream at makapaginvest sa probinsya. Pero wag ka magalala ang mga tao naman nagbabago di naman pwedeng dun na lang ako palagi. Okay na yung masaya ako palagi simula 16yrs old ako hanggang sa 28yrs old na edad naglalaro na ako ng video games. Kung effort lang din naman paguusapan palagi kong ibinibigay yung kaya ko talagang ang tingin lang nila ay wala akong ginagawa. Hanggang sa hindi ko na lang sila pinapakinggan dahil ako alam ko sa sarili ko ang ginagawa ko. At kung yung future naman ang paguusapan palagi naman may nakaplano may mga pagkakataon lang talaga na nababago ko o ng panahon. Kung kukumpara nga natin ang sarili ko mas may plano pa yung batang ako kesa ngayon. Hindi ko alam kung sinama mo ba ako sa pangarap mo kasi ako palagi kong isinasama sa pangarap ko yung taong mahalaga sa akin. Pang huli palagi ko itong sinasabi na wala akong pinagsisisihan sa landas na tinahak ko, sa taong minahal ko, at sa mga ibinigay kong pagmamahal. At syempre kung sino ka man sana lang ay masaya at payapa na ang iyong isipan sa buhay. Palagi ka pa rin kasama sa panalangin ko. Hindi ko na ilalabas yung what ifs ko dahil pagod na ako magoverthink sa mga bagay na hindi naman na pwedeng ibalik pa. Pinipili ko na lang hindi ilabas kung ano man ang maisip ko kahit na minsan ay napopost ko kung saan saan yun. Sana nasagot ko ng maayos ang mensahe mong ito.

“Ako nalang mag-pipicture sa inyo, ayokong sumama” ang aking sinabi sa aking mga kagrupo.

Kami ay inatasang mag-libot sa campus para sa Art Studies 1 na kursong kinukuha namin noong midyear na iyon. Kailangan naming kumuha ng litrato kasama ang mga ribulto sa campus at siyempre hindi na makakaligtaan si Oble. 

Hindi ko akalain na wala pang isang taon matapos kong kunin ang kursong ito, mas gugustohin ko pang madelay kaysa makapagtapos ng aking unang kursong napili. Naaalala ko pa na pagkatapos ng unang semestre ng aking ikalawang taon ay nakaranas lamang ako ng matinding pagod. Hindi ko masabi sa aking mga magulang na desidido na talaga akong umalis. Nasabi ko na siya dati, ngunit akala ata nila ito yung tipong lahat naman naiisipang mag-shift paminsan-minsan. Naisip ko na baka burnout lang na malulunasan ng onting pahina. Subalit, pagkatapos ng Christmas break, ganoon pa rin ang aking nararamdaman. Enlistment noon at kasama kong naglilibot sa SM North ang aking kapatid. Paluha kong sinabi sa kanya, “Ayoko nang mag-Arki” dahil isa akong walang-hiyang iyakin.

Noong kasama ko na ang aking mga kaibigan habang nakapila sa advising at pagpapa-validate ng Form 5, sinabi ko ka kanila na kukunin ko lahat ng mga mahihirap na kurso at ang lahat ng mga kinatatakutang propessor. Sinabi ko na gagawin ko ito upang tuluyan na akong bumigay. Ang aking mga kaibigan ay naging liban dito, ngunit ginawa ko pa rin. Patawa ko pa itong sinabi, ngunit sa loob ko ay kinakabahan ako sa aking gagawin. Gayunpaman, mas takot pa talaga akong manatili sa Arki nang buong limang taon kaysa magdusa ng isang semestre nalang. 

Noong ako ay paalis na nang UP, bago ako maghanap ng dyip pauwi, pumunta muna ako sa Quezon Hall. Dali-daling nag-selfie kasama ni Oble.

Hindi totoo ang pamahiin na hindi ako makakapagtapos sa tamang oras. Makakapagtapos ako sa oras na tama para sa akin.

The University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts (CFA), where the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) used to be (CVM gradually moved to UP Los Baños in June 1983). CFA is the country's oldest educational institution in design and the arts. Its origins preceded the foundation of the university, dating back to the early 19th century when the Academia de Dibujo y Pintura, the country's first art school, was established on 8 October 1823, in Binondo, Manila, by Damian Domingo with the assistance of La Sociedad Económica de Amigos del Pais. Although it was temporarily closed in 1834, the Spanish government revived it in 1845 with the patronage of Queen Isabela II.

The reestablished Academia welcomed Spanish art professors who introduced European Classical art traditions. Notable artists like Simon Flores and Juan Luna emerged from this institution, later achieving international recognition. Flores garnered a silver medal at the Philadelphia Universal Exposition of 1876. Luna's Spoliarium won a gold medal at the 1884 Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes en Madrid. Earlier, in 1881, Luna's La Muerte de Cleopatra won a silver medal. By 1891, the Academia transformed into the Escuela Superior de Pintura y Grabado.

In 1908, the Philippine Assembly, during the American colonial era, passed Act No. 1870, formally establishing the University of the Philippines. Fine Arts became one of the university's original founding units alongside the Philippine General Hospital and the College of Agriculture.

Over the years, CFA has produced at least 11 National Artists for the Visual Arts: Fernando Amorsolo (Painting, 1972), Guillermo Tolentino (Sculpture, 1973), Carlos Francisco (Painting, 1973), Napoleon Abueva (Sculpture, 1976), Vicente Manansala (Painting, 1981), Cesar Legaspi (Painting, 1990), José Joya Jr. (Painting, 2003), Abdulmari Imao (Sculpture, 2006), Benedicto Cabrera (Painting, 2006), Federico Alcuaz (Painting, Sculpture, and Mixed Media, 2009), and Larry Alcala (Comics, 2018). CFA’s history not only reflects the evolution of the University of the Philippines but also mirrors transformations of Philippine art and art education in the country.
