yo does the tumblr void want some Sunblind? Some Auguste and friends before their lives were irrevocably destroyed and 2.5 of them died?
In Sunblind Auguste reminisces about a time he really pissed Vannes off:
Damianos has a similar look of mortification on his face as Auguste recounts this. “That,” he stutters - “those are private things. What on earth had you done ?”
“Stopped her from riding an unbroken Patran stallion some fool had brought to show off. She’s an incomparable horsewoman now but he would have killed her.” - and so of course he had interceded, said that it was a fine creature, but wouldn’t the lady do him the honour of escorting him to luncheon instead? Here, the roses are blooming in the east garden, shall we go that way, milady? And then of course after she had smiled, and curtsied, and taken his arm, they had got out of sight of the stables and she had shoved him (to little effect), stamped on his foot (to more), and told him that he’d pay for this .
Well, this is the immediate aftermath - Vannes’ revenge (phase one of her revenge, before she realised she could just fuck every single girl he liked):
It would have been fine if it weren’t for the stablemaster. Being from Barbin and, furthermore, the father of three red-headed daughters himself, he was simply putty in her hands.
“Excuse me, has the Prince gone this way recently?”
Auguste shrank farther back into his hiding place. Etien shook his head at him solemnly. “And to think,” he whispered, “all this could have been avoided.”
“Shhh!” said Auguste frantically, and tried to crunch his knees up around his ears. He didn’t think the stablemaster had seen him slip in, but —
“Yes - oh, thank you! Yes, his Lady Mother has asked for him - ha, I shall be sure to tell her! Good day!” Mother was not asking for him - Mother had a megrim and was shut up in the solar with strict instructions that no-one, particularly not her children, was to bother her. He held his breath. Maybe she’d moved on?
There was an ominous creak, like the barn door had closed. It was unusually empty, as the stablehands were all out attempting to corral the stallion. Geraint had grimly reported that it had broken its halter, and last he saw had been menacing an elderly clerk that had had the misfortune to be crossing the courtyard.
“Au-guuuste!” This was a very bad sign, as dropping the Prince meant that the stablemaster had slouched off for his luncheon. Or possibly that the stallion had eaten one of the hands. Either seemed likely.
It was time for the last line of defence.
“Do I have to?” Geraint hissed.
“You’re the one that said ‘please don’t!’” Auguste whispered back, furiously.
With a sigh, Geraint unfolded all of his considerable height and meandered up towards the voice.
“Oh,” he said woodenly. “I didn’t see you there, Vannes. I have been napping.” He was an awful actor. Whenever they were forced into participating in the solstice masques Geraint had always been relegated to the role of - tree, or giant, or, on one notable occasion, ‘stupid villager’.
“In the hay?” she said sweetly.
In their hiding place, Etien nodded, looking pleased. Etien had put the hay in his hair, for authenticity. “Yes,” Geraint said, after a pause.
“So Auguste is here,” she said, and then, raising her voice, “Auguste! You coward! Come out right now!”
“Why… Why would you think that?” Geraint asked, in a supreme act of improvisation.
She tch’d. “As if I don’t know that you all go for those ‘afternoon naps’ together, so you can all fondle each others balls or whatever it is—”
“Vanni!” Geraint said, shocked. Auguste’s face burned. Etien put a hand over his mouth, shoulders shaking.
“It’s true! AND I can hear Etien laughing, so get out of my way—”
“Vanni,” Geaint said in a warning tone. Was she trying to dart past him? Had he caught her?
“Hands OFF, you great lump—” and then an oof, like someone extremely large had been thumped in the stomach. “Don’t think I didn’t hear you tell him to!” she shrieked, and then Auguste knew the jig was up.
“You win,” he called morosely, and stood, offering a hand to Etien, who was still laughing. He emerged from the last stall, to see Vannes standing over Geraint, who was clutching his stomach and wheezing.
“What did you do to him?” he said in alarm.
“Payback,” she said coldly, dusting off her hands. “And now it’s your turn.” From her chatelaine, she unhooked a wicked looking pair of scissors. “I thought - what matters to Auguste as much as horsemanship matters to me?” She advanced on him. Snip snip went the scissors. “I’m taking the hair.”
His hand flew to the back of his head. He’d just got it long enough to tie back! And he’d been growing it for months now, and he’d had such a row with Father about it in the first place, who’d accused him of looking ‘shaggy’, ‘unkempt’, ‘like a cowherd.’
“Not a chance,” Auguste said, backing away. “And I did you a favour!”
She howled with rage. “I could have managed it!”
“It’s not a case of could, Vanni, it’s a case of would! As in - the stallion would have killed you!”
“Publicly humiliating me! In front of the Vaskian ambassador!”
“Vanni,” he pled. “Be reasonable!”
She stamped her foot. “Your Vanni privileges are revoked! It’s my-lady-of-Barbin to you!”
Geraint was out of action, and Etien was in hysterics. Both were currently useless. He considered every course of action available to him that didn’t involve knocking Vannes out cold, and made the sensible, princely decision - to run away.
The stables had a back door. He could burst through there and then scramble up one of the orchard trees before she caught up, and descend when her rage cooled off. A week, maximum. He could live on apples for a week.
“No thankyou!” he yelped, and fled.
She shouted after him but he raced between the stalls, and was out the door before she could catch up. He paused, panting. He just needed to slip between the barn wall and the kitchen garden and then -
A looming shadow blocked his path.
Yaren smiled, and tossed the apple she had been eating over her shoulder.
“My lady,” she said, drawing another pair of scissors from her pocket, “wants you to know that she was not - what’s the phrase? - ‘born yesterday.’”

H'rayn of Verkos
Not revised soree😩😩
Tumblr media
oathbreaker/cleric of life/[nondisclosed worship: Orphic cleric]
Name is pronounced "highrend"
192cm/6'3
V.A: Karen Strassman (Shyvana) or Amirah Vann (sevika)
NOTE: her tone is soft, but the way she speaks is poetic and long-winded, sometimes featuring words that don't even exist. Her way of speaking is described by Shadowheart as "githsplaining"
Background: Commandeer-er of the great Red Lady
"Once widely revered amongst your kind, your story pierced the classrooms of many a crèche, your face, legend, and name are known among your own kind. Holding to your true allegiance and seeking comrades in your cause will boon and empower the abilities of those around you, should you stay true to your cause."
Note: The renegade agents are a homebrew gith faction. They hold an extreme proficiency in astral knowledge and have touched the sea of thought itself (they aren't aware of it, they just know what they have been called to do). Because of this, they see reality as it should be (À la the seas interpretation of justice and the right path) and are fervent to beat it back onto the right track. They're excellent spies and like H'rayn they have the potential to shoot through ranks. They are extremely manipulative and charismatic. Renegaders are a chaotic neutral supporting faction with no leader. Individuals within it often sit on the intersections between lawful evil, neutral evil, and true neutral.
Origin backstory dsc
Hatched into the unyielding cold of Crèche Verkos of Vaasa as the weakest of her clutch, H'rayn managed to rouse the fervor of the god queen Vlaakith after slaying a mind flayer as a mere youth, she was the only survivor of her crèche. H'rayn became an agent to the queen, but that was not where her true allegiance laid. Now unmasked as a traitor, hindered by the tadpole, dragonless, and unable to travel between planes, she must find a way to secure the weapon and harness it, all while hot wings of fire rage within her skull in symphony with the tadpole.
Origin introduction preview
"Your eyes meet the one and only un-child, un-child of many minds and one head. I who have slain countless illithid—I who have long feigned faith, reverence, and subservience to a god queen, I who tediously siezed red dragons from their masters and reduced them to hot coals beneath her nose. But she is no longer my fool. Flightless, called 'Hshar'lak', now bound to the material plane and hunted, I must act, or succumb. I will un-shatter and unleash. Zero-sum, I will stir the prince. Even if he kills me."
Recruitment and first interactions
•H'rayn can first be found at mountain pass (X-112 Y-549) speaking with the tiefling Ellyka, disguised as Zorru. The tadpole connection will expose this. The player may either shoot their accusation at 'Zorru', humor the situation, or allow the charade to continue until Ellyka is out of the way or until 'Zorru' decides it's time for the both of them to leave together.
•A passive roll check decides which of the two outcomes happens. The odds are 50/50.
NOTE: if Zorru is killed at the grove prior to this encounter there will be a special dialogue choice mentioning this.
•If H'rayn is exposed here she can be recruited. She will redisguise herself as a youth when first meeting Voss, and all through Crèche Y'llck, claiming that someone of her status need not be pestered by adoring admirers.
NOTE: Voss will oust H'rayn as a traitor to be hunted alongside the weapon. If Lae'zel is not present you can protect H'rayn or expose her disguise. You will have to fight the patrol. Additionally, if Lae'zel is present and exposes H'rayn herself, you can side with the patrol and help them take H'rayn out, She will summon her agents to protect her. If you side with H'rayn, Lae'zel will have to be persuaded to side with her as well (disadvantage if approval is low). This will initiate the patrol fight
•if players miss H'rayn at the mountain pass or do not recruit her, she can be found a final time upon entering Crèche Y'llck through the main entrance, disguised as a 'distressed githyanki youth' being questioned by Warrior Khunaruth(Y-1349 X-834). If the player is a githyanki, they can pass a deception check and claim she belongs to their traveling party (Lae'zel can also be used for this) and save her from the interrogation. Or, they can simply convince Khunaruth to kill her immediately. If there are no present githyanki in your party: you can attack Khunaruth and face the troops guarding the crèche.
•This will be the final chance to recruit her for your party. Once the inquisitors chamber is unlocked/the zaith'isk is used, she will have been snuffed out of her disguise and killed.
•You can either send the 'distressed githyanki youth' to your camp, or you can allow her to temporarily join you for the crèche.
NOTE: if killed by the warrior, a slate will be accessible in the inquisitors chamber detailing her death. If not killed and instead sent to camp, Vlaakith will order Lae'zel to kill H'rayn, wherein Lae'zel willl decide H'rayns fate—or seal her own.
•Disguised as a youth she will begin conversation when examining the comet drawn on the portait of Vlaakith. She will ask that the party take the time to speak to those in the crèche before progressing. If denied to prioritize the zaith'isk, she will head to the classroom alone and wait for you. Should the crèche turn hostile, she will have been killed, not eligible for resurrection.
•Joined in the classroom, she will also demand the player allow her to deal with Varrl. If you refuse her, she will mildly disapprove. If you kill Varrl she will also disapprove. She will approve if you trade Orpheus' slates with him, and disapprove if you threaten him for it.
•She will not reveal herself as H'rayn until waking up next long rest (if in camp) or (if with party) until returning from the prisim/killing inquisitor W'wargaz. The inquisitor will not allow H'rayn to join you inside of the prism, she will be dead when you exit, her body will be at X-1270, Y-673. She will be eligible for resurrection and can be recruited from there.
•If you refuse to recruit her here, she will immediately run off and all chances will have been missed, but her body will reappear inside of the prisim, having died fighting the emperor. The dominated red dragon during the fight with the elder brain will be her dragon, Red Lady.
NOTE: all deaths will yield different dialogue if speak with dead is used on her. She will also begin conversation with you if you read the slate 'Hshar'lak voss' in the inquisitors chamber. Whether you know of her traitorhood(post res) or not will yield different tones and dialogue. Either way she will demand that the party pursue Voss at any cost.
Doubly note: Lae'zels origin guide on the nautaloid, 'Losiir' is a member of H'rayn's squad, who were among the group of dragon riders pursuing the nautaloid. In H'ryans origin, Losiir will come to her aid in the prologue instead of her running into Lae'zel.
•She will abandon the party if you blow up the crèche.
Gear
Note: I don't care WHO the IRS sends I am NOT drawing weapons, rings, or shields!!!
Descriptions, personality, and more below the cut
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Armor — Torn Pelage
The arms and many other elements (including most of the shell) of this once regal heavy armor have been torn off to accommodate temperate climates and need for mobility. The belsnick fur around the neck clings to its wearer, begging to remain. Once, it was warm enough to withstand the rages of winters womb.
Gloves — Gauntlet wraps
These bandages are worn. Tattered by desperate climbing and clawing.
Boots — Githyanki renegade shin guards
These shin guards are scorched by the flames of the hells, devolving them into crude shells.
Ring — Claws From the Mother(CFTM)
This ring is hot to the touch. Bound to its wearer. Pulsing around their finger like a twinned heartbeat, or a slowly sucking leech.
NOTE: CFTM cannot be removed from H'rayn. It is linked to H'rayn's great dragon 'Red Lady'. As long as CFTM is active, Red Lady will remain out of reach, trapped inside of H'rayn's mind. Through higher approval, she will confide in the player about this.
Belt — Shorts.
Short shorts! Comfortable. Versatile. Efficient. Always out of the way.
Shield — Githyanki Coutercoup Shield
Shield crafted for specialty githyanki warriors.
Note: Shield cannot be sold. Will receive a disapproval point if tried >:[
Weapon — Githyanki shortsword
the steel of the hilt has been indented with the three fingered grip of its ever close owner, every red gem plucked. It seems to refrain from cutting you as you run your finger along it.
Camp clothes — temperate harem pants
Common item of clothing among githyanki raiders... comfy. Probably.
Personality
Known traitor to her queen, when first met, H'rayns personality will seem no different than Lae'zels, if not far less trusting, especially towards allyship with those who are not the same race as her. It doesn't take her long to soften up to the camp. After all, she's used to losing whole squads and having them replaced.
She is not outwardly xenophobic, but if she is asked about her attitude towards non-gith, she will humor you briefly, read your race to filth and move on. She has much more important things to worry about than debating her perceived superiority.
She is conceited. As a result of this, one of her quirks is that she speaks even to those who would outrank her with her nose up so that she may always look down on those she deems weak. The only who she will not look down on is the prince himself, allies to the comet, and you, should you prove yourself an ally as well.
Given that she is already "tainted" in her eyes from the tadpole, and within proximity of the prisim she won't change, she is open to the idea of using them to her own gain and consuming the tadpoles to become stronger.
She fights her mind, wading between 'two selves' as per her own description. The self she constructed to feign and the self she has always been. One which is erratic, battle hardened and vicious, and one which is far softer and yearns to nurture and protect. Your guess is as good as anyone else's as to which is the real her.
If your relationship is high enough, she will reveal what she did to be ousted as a traitor. Like the emperor, she sought to steal the prism but was the victim of him meddling and exposing her to seek his own triumph.
Here are her mannerisims and a few tidbits about her that I find fun.
•When speaking, H'rayn will use sign language to better process what's coming out of her own mouth. Habit developed partially because she had a deaf renegader before the nautaloid crash happened. She also deaf in her right ear.
•While idle, she will comb her hair, wipe her brow, or fiddle with CFTM.
•when in camp during the day, she can always be seen either reading slates and books. She will write/annotate during the night.
•after Defeating Ketheric Thorm, if the player sits on his throne and she is present, H'rayn will approach and throw the player off of his throne the first time. The second time the player sits on the throne, she will say, "Tut. Stubborn thing." She will approve of this.
Approvals
Though her words will say otherwise, H'rayn approves of general good deeds, showing mercy to those who have not wronged you, helping children and being decent to those around you. She will also approve if you ask her about her attitude towards non-gith, but only if the player is a fellow githyanki, tiefling, or a dragonborn.
She approves of direct action against the absolute and all evil (ex. Attacking moonrise/goblin camp immediately)and double approves of pro-githyanki anti-Vlaakith statements and decisions. She enjoys the company of someone who values written word, aswell as somebody who is stubborn. She will often comment on books picked up within the world.
She will approve of saving the egg in the crèche.
Note: if this is done, eventually she will confide in you about wishing her kind could have mothers in the way that other races do. Relationship wise. She will hatch the egg and keep Ptaris, but only if the egg is spellbound and stolen back from the society.
She disapproves of acts like desecrating remains, betrayal of word, and insulting the faiths of others, unless you are insulting Vlaakiths faithful, of course. She will also disapprove if the player ever flees a battle.
She is indifferent to acts which are taken only to shorten the means to the end, given you can convince her that acts like slaughtering the grove are in fact just that.
Romance
H'rayn will sooner accept romance from another gith than that of a non gith. A gith will be able to start on her romance at some point in act one assuming you get the approval for it. Non gith will get the chance in act 2. She will not be the one to confess feelings, nor does she see the value in doing so.
NOTE: she will proposition a dragonborn/tiefling for sex when asked what she thinks about their species.
She's extremely cuddly and very affectionate for a gith, so when approached for a relationship/at the party after saving the grove, this is what she will propose if your approval is adequate. During this she will get to know you and vise versa while she cuddles (strangles) you :3
She has no interest in carnal desires, but if her partner wanted to engage in such a thing, then she would be interested to do so, once and only once. A non gith partner (excluding dragonborn and tiefling) will have to prove themselves worthy of this by boasting about battles and or other achievements.
Blue choices will sway her
•Having read Necromancy of Thay unscathed
•Defeating Sarth Baretha and her squad
•Saving the deep gnomes from the duegar
•Defeating inquisitor W'wargaz and or Kith'rak Therezynn
•Saving the grove
•Slaughtering the grove
•Saving Mayrina
•Initially saving Barcus
If you have not done anything worthy of boasting about, you will have the option to bring up surviving the nautaloid in hell. To which she will just say "begone, serf."
Once the relationship has reached its peak, she is intense and religious in her expressions of love. She will demand you to never leave her side.
She will give you the option between being called a helot, and a servant. You can accept either one or persuade her to "act normal" to which she will give you the title "little moth"
this successful persuasion will shift the dynamic into a much softer one, but in both dynamics, she will kiss you, but only if you kneel for her. The only time she will kneel to you is if you free Orpheus, or promise to do so.
She will view her treasured one as an object to hold in her possession, especially a non gith partner.(If not titled "little moth") You will have to prove yourself to be "in control of your faculties" and her equal should you try to break up with her. If you fail, she will just laugh, say "no" and end the conversation. Humorously so. This will not lock you out of other romances. She will be salty about it and there will be one chance to ask for her back within the same long rest.
Note: If you explicitly agreed not to leave her side and try to break up with her, she will challenge you in direct combat.
She is not opposed to engaging with the drow twins, but it will not be a pleasant experience for either of the twins.
Note: if you cheat on her with somebody else she will abandon the party.
Notex2: After meeting Voss in Sharess' Caress, if her partner is not githyanki, she will act colder the following long rest and later approach the player and refuse to continue a relationship.
Dialogue will be different depending on if you had tried to break up with her previously. You can pass a performance check to manipulate her into not leaving you. The roll will have disadvantage if you have slept with her.
Note: Depending on your relationship, she will also tell Voss the truth in spite of you, should you choose to accept Raphaels deal and lie about not having the Orphic hammer.
Personal quest: Claws from the Mother
This quest will see that the player has the choice to urge H'rayn back into Oath with Vlaakith, or help her rid herself of her curse for good; to give her the chance to piece back her two selves and free Red Lady.
In her origin playthrough her main quest consists of trying to find a way to lift CFTM, and trying to find a way inside of the prisim once it is secured. Once inside, there is the choice to successfully help the honor guard against the emperor, and then surrender yourself and your entire party to them.
NOTE: This will be her choice if she is not origin, and if she does not like/trust the player.
To lift CFTM, H'rayn has four possible options, two of which are provided by Mizora, glossed over in act 2, and fully proposed in act 3.
•If Wyll is present, Mizora will say she knows "a devil itching his stinky britches for a contract with a githyanki" whom she owes a favor to. To which H'rayn will have the choice to sign away her soul to become a debtor post brain destruction in exchange for the curse lifting.
•If denied, Mizora will instead propose that H'rayn replace Wyll (if he is to be free of his pact) or join him as one of her warlocks.
NOTE: Both of the proposed options above will result in stronger aid during the final battle and several buffs, but H'rayn will not be permitted to leave faerûn.
•(if present) You could have her seek counsel with Gale, and he will then try his best to see if Mystra could help, which she will do if Gale has agreed not to use the crown.
You will recive aid from both Red Lady and H'rayn.
•The final option is to convince H'rayn to sever her attachment to the ring. Player must roll only a critical sucess to pass. You will not recive aid from Red Lady, and you will not recive aid from H'rayn. If you have romanced her (both gith and non) she will break up with you herself.
If H'rayn has CFTM lifted by Mystra, her agents will provide aid in the final battle along with Red Lady
•The gathered Red Lady will shed the ashes from her scales and apply bane for the next 10 turns to all enemies on the field, ignoring all sightlines.
•H'rayn's aid calls upon her loyal agents, they offer the option to modify the ability Kith'raki Inferno to convert fire damage into another elemental type of your choice.
•If her buff to Kith'raki Inferno is not used before the top of the elder brain is reached, this ability will be forfeit and she will use "Greater Red Ladys Sarath" immediately, applying a bless to her favorite allies until they fall.
Allies who will receive bless are as follows:
•Hellrider Platoon
•Hellstalker Yugir
•Battle ready Owlbear
•Florricks Cohort
Note: If none of the listed allies are gathered, H'rayn's renegade agents of the comet will assist their knightly allies: Kith'raki Inferno will recive another charge ONLY if it has been used already, but it will not be eligible for elemental conversion.
Red Lady will appear in camp alongside H'rayn after CFTM is lifted. H'rayns two surviving renegade agents of the comet (Losiir, Gish Sha'naziim) will also join alongside her. These allies cannot be recruited into the party, but H'rayn will gain the ability to summon them. She will only be able to do this once. The player can also engage in dialogue with them to learn more about H'rayn and the renegade agents.
Neophyte Losiir—Fighter/Gloomstalker Ranger
•Wields the githyanki crossbow version of joltshooter, can haste without making the target lethargic
Gish Sha'naziim—Devotion Paladin/Orphic cleric of life
•will wield an incandescent mace and can cast elemental conversion, adding an element of your choice to an allys attacks.
NOTE: Summoning them uses a bonus action, they can be summoned during the final battle.
•When CFTM is lifted the ring will turn into another version that grants the wearer the reaction "Great Red Ladys Sarath" which can be used once per long rest.
•The wearer has the ability to whistle when entering combat. This whistle will apply greater rally to all team members, granting them 14 temporary hit points and giving them +1 to initiative.
Endgame(post CFTM)
She will aggro immediately if you side with the emperor and let him feed on Orpheus, becoming a mindlfayer and feeding on Orpheus will yield the same result (regardless of approval level), and her romance epilogue will be null if Orpheus is turned.
•If she is not present inside of the prisim when Orpheus is assimilated/he turns into a mindflayer, she will appear with Voss and his raiders, along with her remaining agents (Neophyte Losiir, Gish Sha'naziim). She will appear regardless of Orpheus' status.
NOTE: If she has been killed inside of the Prisim, Sha'naziim will replace her role in this scenario.
•If Voss is sucessfully persuaded just before the final battle, he must then passively roll an invisible d20 (Persuasion) to hit a target of 20 (with advantage if Orpheus is present as a mindflayer), If he fails, H'rayn and her agents will turn hostile and will need to be eliminated.
The Red Lady will still provide aid at Voss' order, should H'rayn/her agents die.
NOTE: if CFTM is not lifted, Voss will have disadvantage on this persuasion check.
She will also offer herself to become a mindflayer instead of Orpheus/Tav/Karlach. Once this is done she will surrender herself to Orpheus' blade after the defeat of the brain.
If you want her faithful to Vlaakith(her bad ending i guess. Makes 0 sense for her character), H'rayn has one thread of choices: let emp assimilate Orpheus>Kill Voss, his raiders, and the renegade agents>betray Emperor>destroy brain. Quintuple whammy.
Post brain destruction
If H'rayns curse is still present, she will remain in faerûn, searching for a way to lift CFTM. She will attend the reunion in flesh.
NOTE: This ending will also occur if she accepts either of Mizora's deals, the only difference being there is no more CFTM. She will not attend the reunion if she accepted the first proposal, and you will not receive a slate from her, you will recive a letter from the devil she was signed to.
If all above criteria is met but CFTM is no longer active, and she is not signed to any devil, Red Lady will come to take H'rayn and she will join the other gith. At the reunion she will either project her form, like Lae'zel, or send a slate.
If you have romanced her as a githyanki you can leave with her, no problem
NOTE: Non gith romance endings are contingent on successfully urging her not to break up with you in favor of her own race.
If you have romanced her as a non gith (excluding dragonborn and tiefling), she will urge you to stay behind for fear of her kind flaying her beloved helot/moth on sight.
Tieflings and dragonborns will be able to join her without having to pass a check, and she will gladly go into battle with either. If another race, you will have to persuade her via promising to be careful or to stay out of battle and become something to be taken care of.
All romance endings will allow you and H'rayn to attend the reunion. With a dialogue choice, you will be able to decide if you have heeded and remained out of the battle and githhanki affairs or if you stubbornly fight with her. She will approve with the latter.
•If Voss is successful in calming her when Orpheus has been turned/killed, she will also leave with the other gith. She will not attend the reunion. She will send a slate.
If H'rayn becomes a mindflayer, she will surrender herself to Orpheus' blade. The player can beg Orpheus to refuse, and H'rayn to give life a chance as an illithid.
•If you persuade just Orpheus, H'rayn will not attend the reunion. She will send a slate.
•If you succeed on both rolls, H'rayn will attend the reunion as a mindflayer.
If loyal to Vlaakith, and if she has done everything Vlaakith has asked and denied the influence of the sea of thoughts, H'rayn will not attend the reunion. She will be dead.
Bonus: with H'rayn present, the egg which contains the githyanki child Ptaris can be handed over to Esther and stolen back from the society before he hatches. The party will have 2 long rests to retrieve the unhatched Ptaris after they reach baldurs gate. If they complete the game having taken the egg, and having it in H'yrans inventory, Ptaris will hatch as he does normally, and H'yran will have a beautiful warmongering baby boy who grows at an excelerated rate🤞
•He will also be projected to the reunion party with mommie dearest (H'yran)
———
Hii if you read all of this and enjoyed it feel free to ask me about her in my ask box hehe... I really like her and the agents. I've even written some barks, party banter, all speak with dead Q&As (written for both survivng renegade agents too), and dialogue aswell as some of her reunion slates :)
My tummy hurts posting this bro. My twt is transpennywise

I’ve finally read Pet and am kicking myself I didn’t read it sooner!
I’ve measured out the short stories like I’m nibbling on chocolate, Charlie Bucket style, and I was leaving this till last partly because of that, and partly because I didn’t feel that interested in Ancel (sorry Ancel, I take it back).
It’s fascinating reading about events that occur in Captive Prince but not from Damen’s POV. The idea that everyone has complexities under the surface, and that things aren't always as they seem, is only understood by Damen negatively in the first half of Captive Prince I think. Veretians are untrustworthy and slippery and Machiavellian. And that's not, not true! The Veretian court IS a pit of vipers. But people are also still human, and it's that extra step of understanding the humanity underneath even these acidic, performative snakes which is interesting. Ancel is sharp and smart (and really needs to be taught how to read forthwith). Berenger is morally admirable, and isn't actually sleeping with him. Vannes cares about Berenger in her own small way. Laurent emits a great deal of power and is "instantly commanding" to others (but not to Damen, which must have really infuriated him).
Here’s some more snippets of my thoughts in general:
Waxing is canon! So interesting. Why does no grown man ever shave in the books also? Why isn't attending, also shaving? I think we'll just have to accept that as Pacat's choice. Maybe the only blade she wanted between them was the ghost of swords from a long ago fight/swords in the present?
Tumblr media
Isagoras the writer/poet- any connection to Isagoras the historical figure who was embroiled in a power play in terms of Athenian politics and democracy? Who Aristotle called ‘friend of tyrants’? Obviously he’s not meant to be that figure but is it a sort of irony and foreshadowing for the political choices Berenger has to make?
Tumblr media
And Akielon writing/poetry is popular among men with status? Interesting. You wonder if Laurent approved a poem waxing lyrical about Ios, or really anything that suggested the Akielons aren't barbarians.
Tumblr media
I feel as if Damen would know this poem, and read it to Laurent as part of courting him 🥺
Tumblr media
Interesting to see a first impression of Laurent from the viewpoint of someone not instantly obsessed with him- severe and harsh, but no mention of his beauty till later.
Tumblr media
I mean this nicely but Damen really has no idea how naturally arrogant and superior he comes across as in this situation, does he? I mean, it’s completely understandable if you think of Akielon society, and how he’s been raised and treated; in fact it would be implausible any other way based on his character traits too. He’s just so bad at pretending to be a slave even as his life is at risk if they find out he’s a prince 😂 oh Damen /pets his curls/. And oh, a *lion* you say....
Tumblr media
Just really bad at acting servile, it's so funny. Love him.
Tumblr media
Speaking of Lamen, it is a little unsettling how quickly Damen starts to fall for Laurent in Captive Prince and how Laurent truly does hate him, yet…is clearly on some molecular level, attracted to him, I think? It’s just a really heartbreaking and stressful dynamic. His "complete attention" on him...let's face it, if Damen had looked like Govart, Laurent wouldn't be fixated in the same way (I mean this nicely).
Tumblr media
Oh my baby Laurent. You know this isn’t right. Are you reenacting a past trauma? Making him suffer what you suffered? Even if you aren’t, your flaw is letting your hatred and anger blind you to your morals. (Lucky a man is going to fall in love with you who is pretty much always on your side even when you don’t always deserve it…). Damen will help you be more honourable /pats blond head/
Tumblr media
"Locked” is an apt word isn’t it, considering all that ties them together (and not to mention the gold cuffs and collar…) and oof, Laurent's sexual domination in this scene is quite apparent.
Tumblr media
and…
Tumblr media
I mean, we all know this is sex by proxy and so does Ancel, who just met Laurent and Damen!
Tumblr media
And lastly, I am team Berenger. He's a Good Man and would probably get on pretty well with Torveld and Nikandros, the other dark haired, loyal and responsible men in the trilogy.
Tumblr media
Nice to see someone see commoners as people all year round (not simply when their villages are being massacred and their humanity is thrown into stark relief by it)!

We often speak to the histories and afterlives of slavery and how the multigenerational traumas and intimate violence of Jim & Jane Crow still resonate and ripple across the Diaspora . . . but we don’t take enuf (enough) time to showcase the breadth of resilience, miracles, and magic nurtured in our community. In post-slavery world, Blacks folks of all shades and sizes found moments in the sun where they could shape their new world and capture their humanity through the emerging field of photography.
Looking at this collection, I am reminded of when March Church Terrell declared that Black folks “are the only human beings in the world with fifty-seven varieties of complexions who are classed together as a single racial unit. Therefore, we are really truly colored people, and that is the only name in the English language which accurately describes us.”

- Mrs. D. Welch and two children (1870s - 1930s)

“But there is something further; do you happen to know a man who was the intimate friend of M. Fouquet, M. d’Herblay, a bishop, I believe?”
“Bishop of Vannes.”
“Well! this M. d’Herblay, who also knew the secret, the queen-mother is pursuing with the utmost rancor.”
“Indeed!”
“So hotly pursued, that if he were dead, she would not be satisfied with anything less than his head, to satisfy her he would never speak again.”
“And is that the desire of the queen-mother?”
“An order is given for it.”

captive prince book 1 highlights & annotations
chapter 2
indented text is from the book. some quotes have commentary, some do not. some comments are serious, and some are definitely not. most of them will only make sense to people who have read the series. and, like, there are spoilers. so please read the books first if you're interested!
i'm going to tag these longer posts with "sam reads capri" in case anyone wants to read them all at once.
this is a google doc i wrote with overall content warnings for the captive prince series. it's not perfect, but i do think it's important to include.
‘What was the Prince’s mood?’ ‘Delightful,’ said Damen.
His blue eyes were as innocent as the sky; only if you looked carefully could you see something genuine in them. Such as dislike.
‘You have a cut on your lip. Someone hit you. Oh, that’s right, I recall. You stood still and let him. Does it hurt?’ He was worse sober.
‘We must have some conversation. You see: I have asked after your health, and now I am reminiscing. I fondly remember our night together. Have you been thinking about me this morning?’
laurent's main coping mechanism in vere is improv comedy. damen just won't commit to the bit 🙄
‘Maybe,’ said Laurent, his eyes widening a little, ‘you strayed after he fucked you.’ That idea revolted him so much, took him so unawares, that he tasted bile in his throat.
context: laurent has been frequently taunted in his court for being a little too close with his brother, so he’s using the same taunt against damen, KNOWING that he is both kastor’s half-brother and auguste's killer. 5d chess insult, he must have been working on that one all night
There was something obscene about someone with a face like that speaking those words in a conversational voice.
what kind of face? a pretty one?
‘It’s so rare to see you at these entertainments, Your Highness,’ said Vannes. ‘I was in the mood to enjoy myself,’ said Laurent.
laurent's conduct in the veretian court bounces between "deadpan sitcom character" and "unrepentant sadist but only towards damen." like i'm pretty sure that prior to damen's arrival, laurent spent his time in court lounging around, scheming, and making bitchy comments that may or may not have gone over everyone's heads
The other, to whom Damen’s attention naturally gravitated, was blond, though his hair was not the buttercup yellow of Laurent’s, it was darker, a sandy colour, and his eyes weren’t blue, they were brown.
damen likes blondes mention #2. this time he compares a less blonde, less attractive person to laurent, who he despises. nobody asked him to compare this person to laurent. he just does.
‘Sweetmeat?’ said Laurent. He held the confection delicately, between thumb and forefinger, just far enough out of reach that Damen would have to rise up onto his knees in order to eat it from Laurent’s fingertips. Damen jerked his head back. ‘Stubborn,’ Laurent remarked mildly, bringing the treat to his own lips instead, and eating it.
he’s having fun.
He sat in a graceful sprawl, one wrist balanced on the armrest of the box seat. At any moment, he might contemplate his nails.
laurent lean #1
Only Laurent seemed immune. He was probably so jaded that this display did not even cause his pulse to flicker.
context: on first read, you’d assume that laurent is just deeply cruel and apathetic (which, to be fair, he sometimes is). but in a re-read, i know that he is disgusted by these kinds of displays, and would not have them in his court. his measured apathy is a coping mechanism while he waits to come of age.
Laurent had threatened to have him raped.
context: laurent despises damen. he most likely would have already murdered him in auguste’s name, if the regent hadn’t stopped him. laurent intends for damen to lose this fight, having previously drugged him. part of the motive, for laurent, may be retribution for what his younger self had to endure after auguste’s death. it is very, very personal.
this is an unequivocally evil thing to do, regardless of outcome or motive. laurent’s eventual apology is necessary and i think that the memory of this will haunt him for a long time. i'm not sure the story could have gone the same way, if damen hadn't won and ended that fight.
honestly, i kind of want to use a different passage to discuss this plot point, but it is what it is. that's what damen perceives, no matter what may have been happening in laurent's head. and the author must have used the word "rape" for a reason. maybe to make sure the reader thinks the absolute worst of laurent for the majority of the book, so they don't catch on to the fact that he isn't actually in control.
Laurent extended his right leg slightly, the tip of his well-turned boot presenting itself to Damen. ‘Kiss it,’ Laurent said.
“yes, and” improv response to damen fake-swearing his loyalty
‘Every dog can be brought to heel,’ said Laurent.
boot pun
He gathered the last of his strength to himself and said: ‘Do whatever you want to me. I’m not going to rape a child.’ Laurent’s expression flickered.
context: laurent legitimately did not expect this ethical stance from damen. he views damen as depraved and barbaric; he killed laurent's brother and keeps (adult) slaves in his homeland. damen's refusal to cooperate goes directly against laurent's first impression in a way that hits close to home, since laurent is a victim of csa.
again, pacat uses the word "rape," which is heavy. i think this is one of the main reasons i refuse to call the series a fetishization of non-consent or sexual assault; the author is honest about the brutality of veretian practices in no uncertain terms. (the one possible exception is the garden scene in chapter five, and i have written several very long paragraphs trying to reckon with that.)
Laurent was looking from Damen to the boy and back again. Frowning as if something didn’t make sense. Or wasn’t going his way. ‘Why not?’ he said, abruptly. ‘Why not?’ said Damen. ‘I don’t share your craven habit of hitting only those who cannot hit back, and take no pleasure in hurting those weaker than myself.’ Driven past reason, the words came out in his own language. Laurent, who could speak his language, stared back at him, and Damen met his eyes and did not regret his words, feeling nothing but loathing.
this is great, in terms of perspective. they both think the worst of each other here. damen assumes that by asking “why not,” laurent is admitting his own lack of reservations about doing this irredeemable thing. meanwhile damen’s refusal actually aligns with laurent’s values, which confuses laurent, causing him to ask for clarification. the interaction ends with damen thinking worse of laurent than laurent probably thinks of damen (in this specific case, anyway)
Damen heard him say to one of the servants: ‘Have my horse brought to the north courtyard. I’m going for a ride.’
that’s fair. go get some air, buddy
also... is this the last time laurent gets to hang out with his horse while it's in good health? maybe i'm too nice to laurent this early on, but this makes me feel sad for the person he becomes/is revealed to be. i hope it's a nice ride for them both.
As for Damen, he had no idea what had just happened.
gonna have to get used to that, i'm afraid
‘You look surprised . . . were you hoping to enjoy that boy after all? You had better get used to it. The Prince has a reputation for leaving pets unsatisfied.’
laurent ethical W! pacat showing her hand just the tiniest bit after the chapter's earlier brutality. so many of laurent's worst threats are a form of personal revenge towards damianos; this line gives damen a hint that to anyone else, laurent would not be nearly as cruel. and like, there is no way in hell that laurent would have actually allowed anything to happen to a child, even if damen hadn't refused. after all, it had been audin's idea, not laurent's, in the first place.

hi! we're the cosmos system and we're starting fresh. new blog new us yeah?
bodily 19, treat all of us like adults. we're traumagenic-ish with OSDD but we're friendly to all system types. we've known we were a system for 8 years now. there's about 40 of us including our several subsystems. all of us are either fictives, therians, alterhumans, or usually a mix. so for privacy, we use nicknames on this account.
we're mostly multiple with some degree of median, but don't care to figure out what, except to know that we have several subsystems. we also have a lot of age sliding. as for words that we use to describe ourselves: hydra/cepha/some kind of monoconscious (we don't know and don't care), isolgenic/amitigenic, traumaendo.
collectively we are nonbinary and transmasc and struggle with avpd & ocd, so you'll see posts about our experiences with that. we're also autistic & semiverbal! (but we don't struggle with autism, we're actually quite good at it.)
PLEASE SEND US ASKS!!! we love attention!!!! we don't bite and we would LOVE to be your friend!!!! we use emojis when writing so you'll know who you're talking to, but you can ask to speak to someone specific if you want. check the tags to see who posted what.
no dni, but we block zionists, anti-endos, exclusionists, transandrophobes, most radqueers, and transmeds. (we don't post about ship discourse here so anyone can follow, but for the record we're pro-fic and we'll respect your dni.)

Queer history of Final Fantasy
I am replaying all the old final fantasies(mostly psp psone releases), first time with english localization and not the original jp.
Now i get it.
It all make sense now.
I couldn't understand the wave of "why shove the gays in our face" backlash of 16(even though, the non homophobic felt it was lacking since they didn't want to 'push it in yall face'). Like apperantly moat of the implication or straight up fruity moments in the old game was completely removed, or changed to the point of it being a 'silly thing'.
So lets clarify -
*Cecil(iv), your homeboy- an Non-binary (language is the best indication, but yeah i think it was a decision made for both female and male players to be able to relate to them, but yeah funny outcome non the less)
*Bartz(v)- outright bisexual, they didnt even hide it- next person on this list gonna make it make sense.
*faris(v)- an ftm transgender( at least in the original version, i know in some new iterations they scrapped the whole concept, but left it in in others?)- mainly speak about himself with (ore/boku- which is conventionally usally by male speakers), after finding out soem of the cast either use a female pronounce on him, but bartz constantly either avoid it or use male pronounce(or the nonbinary version which is usually reffered to kidz) but yeah, bartz was crushing on faris where he thought he was a cis male and unlike the other guy didnt shy away.
Lets jump a bit to 8-
Irvine(viii)- even though considered very handsome to the point he could get with any girl hed want, was even flirted with by selphie i think i need to remember, but he usually brush it off.
If anything he is either asexual, or gay(its very subtle, but its what called queer coding, and well see that allot from now on cause japan caught up to westerns norm on media)
Quina Quen (ix)- literally, a nonbinary- but i think they kept it in eng as well cause they are not human, but like black mages they have no sex, but unlike black mages they are 'genderless' and dont care for human norms.
Kuja(ix)- either gay/intersex/both.
Look at him.
Seriously that character confused a whole generation sexuality.
Like sephiroth, but unlike sephiroth he also have effeminate mannerisms, and until it was revealed by text it wasnt so obvious.sephiroth in jp have a confusing language because he himself is possed by jenova, so evem though i love this headcanon, sephiroth isnt trans actually.
Auron(x)- ahh yes, your favourite broody guy and probably where im gonna get tons of hate.
Auron is very subtle, but once you notice it its hard to deny.
I think Auron is gay, unlike jecht or braska- he did not have kids, denied arranged marriage, and followed jecht to dream zanarken just to save jecht only son- it was pretty obvious that auron loved jecht. He also loved braska but not as much, and it shows- that for auron it was more than friendship. You can see it with his attitude towards yuna vs tidus- with yuna he is nicer, politer. Liem you act when you babysit your friends /cousins child.
But to tidus, he is a full father figure. In their journey together they grow, and i think if he wasnt the boy of the man he loved he wouldn't treat tidus as his own. With all the scoldinngs in mind.
Paine(X-2)- qlmost forgot her, but yeah she's pretty gay for riku
I dont remember much though because if the mission structure of the game.
Larsa(xii) - ohh i see you boy, i see u. He is sus as hell. He is a kid so its pretty innocent(and relatable to us queer kidz)
Its pretty obvios that he is crushing on basch, innocently though. I know some ppl who shipped him with penelo, but canonically by spinoffs at least she and vann are an item.
Also they made sure it was obvious cause japan have this thing that a young character is crushing on a teacher, mentor , older characters in general(aka cc sakura- her friend crushing on a teacher, syaoran & sakura crushing on yukito, also happens in tons of pop culture media at that time, so im not surprised, but im happy this time its one sided, THANK GOD)
But yeah if you reached the ending its pretty obvious.
Fang & vanille(xiii)- the first lesbians couple! Terra(VI) was supposed to be the first but they were afraid it will make her less marketable so they scrapped her gf. They made them clear, but at the same time they tried to make sure pple wont be fetishizing them(they tried, at least).
I want to explain their story more but i think ill mess it up since i tend to mix up 13's lacie, falcie and all that jazz.
So ill just say that basically there are 2 world in 13, pulse and cacoon. Pulse is basically earth and cacoon is the moon. There is a god for each world called a falcie.
Few of them but ine for each major ones. Our main gand from cacoon, branded by a falcie to be slaves(lacie) vanille and fang are from pulse, and slaves of pulse lacie, so basically they are with the task of creating Ragnarok which is like the end of time and but limw they dont know cause the gods in this game is like 'yeah imma give you a mission but wont tell you beside weird non undersandable feaver dream and you need to figure out and fast or youll become this universe version of zombie, and if you do complete it you become a ceystal living forever but like, sleeping beauty style. So lose lose situation.
The focus of them both is different from the gang, caus the falcie of cacoon is evil so he gove them focus destroying cocoon while if fang& vannile mannaged to ruin that falcie and bring ragnarok theyll become a crystal, and they used it to save coccon from falling and crushing killing all the people in it, basically became a pillar in eternal sleep when they hheld each other.
But they are saved in later game only to... Lightning return which we wont talk about cause i hate timers.
I love the story of xiii, big part of it is vanille & fang, i havent played in english yet, but i will say, their story is one of the more meaningful on this list, very well developed and i will do it disservice if id try to explain it in few sentences - so do yourself a favour and play or watch the playthrough.
Ignis& gladio(xv)- here is when localization ruimed it. I know cause i palyed on jp dub with eng sub and heard the differences live- first of all gladio and ignis are completely different in jp, as individuals and as a pair- they were supposed to be the first dion& terrence moment, but it got scrapped and they went the vannile& fang route, only that bec they are men, the localization team missed the mark.
Gladio got pissed at noctis in the train because of ignis.
In jp its clear their bond is beyond friends, and not mention the fact that their AI is always stuck together, and that gladio isnt a womenizer in jp at all, and there is no fiancee/girlfriend.
In jp he said suggested there is someone he wants to be with but bec of the state of the world and them both being constantly in the battlefront he couldnt ask.
(and ignis clear his throat when everyone is like oh great, very subtle but it was leading to that)
Every stop of the train or erea post blindness gladio was with ignis not leaving him .
Also tabata san also said that they are more than friends. So there's that too.
But its no secret 15 localization is tereible, the massacared prompto, he is so cringy in english, in jp yeah he is funny but like he says more stuff then random pop colture references, he breaks the 4th wall occasionally but not on the same level of the localization. Also, jp noctis is a little shit because he can and will, in localization he is more relatable while ignos and gladio are kimda mean. In jp its the other way around and up until chap 13 (when he is alone) noctis is a bratt. He has some moments when he is nicer, but when struggle shows he is a bratt about it- and its done purposely since he is a spoiled pronce who never done anything alone in his life.
Thats why in chap 13 he has a change of heart, because he was alone and learned to appriciate his friends when he was stuck alone in the dark with no weapons and i think it was a good call storytelling wise, but yeah the english localzation ruined it and made the whole chapter pointless .
Those are the implied/canon gays of final fantasy up to 15(we got a kiss so its obvious).
The series has always been kinda Fruity and i know some of yall will be like, 'but there's no proof'. Well, japanese speakers(who arent homophobic at least) will agree with me that we tend in media that is not specified like BL or GL to make things subtle. So what in the west is called 'queer coding' is very common in japanese media and it comes in way more shape and forms.usually implied with a desper conncetion relationship or linguistics.its funny cause in the 80's and very early 90's gay pple wasnt hidden in jp pop culture (no kisses or anything but it was straight out told to the viewer/player)
And only later 90's there was a trend of removing us completely from the media, but around that time a specific genre was created so it wasn't out completely.(like yaoi/yuri as erotic mangas existed aince the 80's but usually only love stories or main gay characters were mixed in with the straight media, kimda like what netflix does today, but around 96, 97 the shounen ai and shoujo ai genres rose in popularity(mainly cause of clamp) and things got seperated. In games- because it became a bigger deal in the west square took caution with how clear they gonna make stiff not to piss of the christians after the backlash of Pokemon (idk how it was really but through japanese media and news it seemed at the times that the american patents were pissed so game companies started sensoring their games from all things might piss off christians/monotheistics ).
*also i dont live in japan but i am mixed so i grew in a jp speaking house and family from there always sent games on holidays and birthdays+nhk was always running in the backround to check on the motherland😂

1, 4, 27 for the writing questions 👀💕💕
Vann! Thank you so much for the Ask <3
~ ~ ~
What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?
I, normally, write in Arial at size 12. This is one of the easiest fonts for me to read without struggling too much. I always try to take extra care in formatting fics as I understand having a difficulty reading, especially large blocks of text.
What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?
Feral in a good way - Comprehensively. Aghast. Faerie. Preen.  Feral in a bad way - Moist. Seepage. Member. Bulbous.
Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?
This might be a controversial answer, but it’s the truth. The most stressful character that I’ve ever written is 90’s Taker. Don’t get me wrong! I love him and he is my ‘Emotional Support Zombie.’ However, there’s a very specific tone of voice that I like writing Zombie fics in and, mentally, it’s difficult for me to write in. (Does that make sense?) This is why I haven’t written anything for Zombie in a short while, but I’m definitely not giving up on him entirely.

hi i have a lot of questions. 3 4 13 17 23 25
hiiiii <3
3. what were your top 5 books of the year?
in no particular order;
if an egyptian cannot speak english, noor naga
the faggots & their friends between revolutions, larry mitchell
uncommon measure, a journey through music, performance, and the science of time, natalie hodges
the remainder, alia trabucco zerán trans. sophie hughes
sex and the family in colonial india, durba ghosh
4. did you discover any new authors that you loved this year?
yes, many! noor naga and natalie hodges for sure, I would read anything they write and I look forward to more from them. actually all the authors above I haven't read before. I'd like to read durba ghosh's gentlemanly terrorists too. also vernadette vicuña gonzalez, I love the subjects that she focuses on in her work, ive been in the middle of securing paradise for some time but I also read an article of hers on hawaiian quilts, commodification, and american imperialism which was incredible
13. what were your least favorite books of the year?
hmm I would say apsara engine, in: a graphic novel, and the haunting of tram car 015 - they were all ok, somewhat boring, but apsara engine is the only one i actively disliked, i was excited for a graphic anthology of queer south asian scifi but it fell flat to me, with a lot of focus on white people/white gaze
17. did any books surprise you with how good they were?
yes! definitely if an egyptian cannot speak english because it's so rich, creative, and haunting. it stayed with me in many ways, and i'm especially haunted by how violently race, class, imperialism, etc. can play out on an interpersonal level, which this book explores through love/romance. another was david vann's aquarium, it was a bit difficult for me to move through emotionally so i think i was rejecting at first but it sunk in more after i finished and stayed with me as well. it is so striking, well-written, and lays bare the day by day accumulation of life. I also found chia-chia lin's the unpassing really touching and beautiful, i think there's an innocence of it that's halting
23. what's the fastest time it took you to read a book?
probably the 2-3 days (can't quite remember) that it took me to read gayatri gopinath's impossible desires: queer diasporas and south asian public cultures, which i had to get through quickly in order to write my final paper on it lol. I probably read other books quicker, like washes, prays by noor naga or faggots & their friends, but i would consider this the fastest for how dense the book is too
25. what reading goals do you have for next year?
in terms of overall book goal, I think i'll stay with 24 books, which was my goal for this year, bc it feels reasonable and puts the right amount of pressure on me to pay attention to reading as a habit. I don't usually have other specific goals, but I'd like to keep this trend of reading more nonfiction, and i have a lot of articles saved I wanna get to. one of my goals is to maintain personal reading during the semester - even if its much slower

GET REKT SPECS HERE WE GOOOOOOOOO
How far would they go to save someone they love? Would they sacrifice themselves? Others?
Specter, much like Ghost, would die for the people he loves without hesitation. Unlike his brother, however, Specter would have the people he loves before saving others. Especially after o66. His family is all he cares about after that, he'd sooner kill a friend than let anything happen to his brothers, and that's a threat.
How easy is it for them to get lost in despair?
It's not. Specs falls to despair once, after Athena's death during o66. He falls into such a deep, woeful depression, the rest of Grave is actually worried he'll die from it. It takes a lot to get him back from the brink like that.
What's their relationship to their body? Self esteem? Self image?
Specter doesn't hate his body, so to speak, but he hates his scars, his limits. He hates looking at himself and seeing his failings. Each scar, a person he couldn't save. A brother outside his squad. Athena. Dax'Malkin. Vann. Annika. Bos.
Specter doesn't think much of himself. He wants to, though. He wants to be hopeful that he's worth more than his value as a soldier. He knows he's a person, that he is truly alive, but he also knows he was made to be replaced. Built to last, sure, but not to be permanent. It's hard to think a lot of yourself when you're just a number to the people who made you.
Small trigger warning for self harm under the cut:
Regarding Specter's scars, and them representing those he couldn't save. Like other clones, Specter keeps a tally of the people he's lost. He just doesn't put them on his armor. He puts the tally on his skin.
Wraith constantly begs him not to do that and dresses the cuts quickly, but it doesn't stop Specter. He needs to remember who it's for and what their name was. He has to. He has to.
