Archbishop Fulton Sheen
Venerable Servant of God
1895-1979
Archbishop Sheen was a master communicator, who proclaimed the Catholic faith thru radio (the Catholic Hour; 1930-1950) and television (Life is Worth Living; 1951-1962). He preached with wisdom, humor and a tremendous knowledge of theology, world religions, and Christian denominations. Monsignor Sheen received two Emmy awards for Most Outstanding T.V. Personality. In 1950, he became the National Director of the Society of the Propagation of the Faith. Between 1962 to 1965, he attended all the sessions of the Second Vatican Council, working closely with Fr. Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI). In 1966 to 1969 he was the Bishop of Rochester, N.Y. Throughout his whole priesthood, he promoted and practiced a holy hour before the Blessed Sacrament.

Hosted by Bishop (later Archbishop) Fulton J. Sheen, the series consisted of Sheen speaking to the camera and discussing moral issues of the day, often using blackboard drawings and lists to help explain the topic. When the blackboard was filled, Sheen would move to another part of the set, and request one of his "angels" (one of the TV crew) to clean the blackboard.[2]
Sheen made famous statements against communism.[7] In 1953 an episode of Life Is Worth Living consisted of a reading of the burial scene from Julius Caesar, with Sheen substituting the names of Stalin, Beria, Malenkov, and Vyshinsky for Caesar, Cassius, Marc Antony, and Brutus. Sheen dramatically stated, "Stalin must one day meet his judgment." One week later, the Russian dictator was dead from a stroke.[2]

The cause for his canonization was officially opened in 2002. In June 2012, Pope Benedict XVI officially recognized a decree from the Congregation for the Causes of Saints stating that he lived a life of "heroic virtues" – a major step towards beatification – and he is now referred to as "venerable".[6][7] On July 5, 2019, Pope Francis approved a reputed miracle that occurred through the intercession of Sheen, clearing the way for his beatification.[8] Sheen was scheduled to be beatified in Peoria on December 21, 2019, but the beatification was postponed after the current Bishop of Rochester expressed concern that Sheen's handling of a 1963 sexual misconduct case against a priest might be cited unfavorably in a forthcoming report from the New York Attorney General. The Diocese of Peoria countered that Sheen's handling of the case had already been "thoroughly examined" and "exonerated" and that Sheen had "never put children in harm's way".[9]

“The world’s greatest need is someone who will understand that there is no greater conquest than victory over oneself; someone who will realize that real worth is achieved not so much by activity, as by silence, who will, like a lightning flash, burn away the bonds of feeble interest which tie down our energies to the world; who with a fearless voice, like John the Baptist, will arouse our enfeebled nature out of the sleek dream of un-heroic response; someone who will gain victories not by stepping down from the Cross and compromising with the world, but who will suffer in order to conquer the world.”

INSERT CRY OF TRIUMPH HERE
Friends, Neighbors, Mutuals, Folx who followed the tags,
We have acquired an apartment. I haven't signed the lease yet, but it's only a matter of time.
Not only have we acquired an apartment, we have acquired an apartment in the complex I wanted. It's only a 2-Bed, but here's hoping that the Pukha gets his shit together and moves out soonish. (A mother can hope.)
And best of all, it's in the school district that I wanted.
Thank you for putting up with my whining, and if you threw out some energy for me, you have my gratitude; may you be blessed twice over.
All people who aren't of faith etc. please ignore the next paragraph. I promise there's nothing after it that will interest you.
All the spiritual influences who helped me have my deep and immense gratitude.
Thanks and appreciation to my Beloved Dead (Jody, N., Daddy, Grandpa Raymond), to Saint Joseph, to Our Lady Untier of Knots, to St. Mychal Judge (if you don't know who that is, message me and I'll tell you -- just trust, he's a saint by all the measures of the Church other than he was gay so they say he's not one), to Venerable Servant of God Archbishop Fulton Sheen, and to Padre Pio.
Thanks and appreciation to Loki, Frigg, Hestia, Hera, Aphrodite Nemesis and whoever else my bestie and my other Pagan friends called on to help me.

“He permits mental crosses, like worries, fear, anxieties, to make us feel His absence. If our love of goodness does not draw us to Him, at least our weariness will throw us back to Him. He permits physical crosses like sufferings to make us feel His Presence. Sickness forcibly draws us away from the world and its pleasures, and makes us realize that His scarred Hands cannot touch us without leaving wounds.”

The Laity's Duty: Saving the Church from Within
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our Bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to the people. You have the minds, the eyes, the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops like bishops and your religious act like religious.” -Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen These powerful words, spoken by the venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, serve…

Daily Catholic Wisdom
"If you have never before prayed to Mary, do so now. Can you not see that if Christ himself willed to be physically formed in her for nine months and then be spiritually formed by her for thirty years, it is to her that we must go to learn how to have Christ formed in us? Only she who raised Christ can raise a Christian."

I’m so glad that Charles de Foucauld is finally being venerated by the Church as the saint he is. If you aren’t familiar with St. Charles’ story, Archbishop Venerable Fulton J. Sheen dedicated an episode of Life is Worth Living to talking about his fascinating life.

Why do people fear going to Confession?
Ven. Arch. Fulton Sheen actually talks about this nicely in his Peace of Soul. I'll paraphrase so that maybe y'all will go read it!
But basically he says that people fear confession so much because, counter to what the psychology of today tells us, it holds us responsible for our actions. Much of psychology and psychoanalysis will tell us that our actions, all of them, are based purely on instinct, on the "unconscious." Which, as God-fearing Christians, we must reject. We are not just primal instincts pretending to have sentience. We are, to our deepest layer, sentient beings, imbued with free will, with choice, according to the moral order. So, people are afraid of admitting that what they are told by society is wrong; afraid that they can be actually wrong, not just got-an-answer-wrong-on-the-test, but morally, objectively wrong.
Without an idea of a creator, a higher power, there is no reason for confession. But, Ven. Sheen says this, if confession was a man-made affair, you would be charged money, it would not be secret, priests would be able to withhold easily forgiveness. But as it is, confession is free (and freeing), there is a seal that damns the priest if he utters even the slightest hint of what someone confessed, and priests cannot withhold absolution unless you have no intention of stopping a sinful behavior (like having no intention of stopping the use of artificial birth control). And that last one is only true because if someone has no intention of stopping (or trying to stop, in most cases) their sin, they either do not truly see it as a sin or they are not truly sorry for their sin.
This turned out a bit longer than intended but the short of it: people are afraid because they do not know what sin really is. They do not know the damage they are doing to their relationship with God.
