He was keeping the vet techs entertained while the cardiologist gave me the good news that we're in the very, very early stages of Myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) — stage B1.
Recheck in a year, so I guess I should start a Bucky's heart fund savings account! No medications at this time.
Puppy asked for more kibble (!) and as I put it down, I dropped my whole treat pouch on the floor and he ate it like a vaccun BUT he still ate the majority of his meal!
I think he's officially back to normal now! Turns out, it was him not being a fan of his old kibble and he doesn't like to eat a whole meal in the morning. (That and him eating a plastic tube 🙄.)
He eats a good, normal amount of food now!

We're back on antibiotics, but with antacids and food and if he throw up again, even only once, we're off the antibiotics for good, since his wound is great and he's acting like himself.
I really hope his wound fully heals soon because while I'm glad I found a harness I can use, him not being able to have a breakaway collar is hard at times.
Maddie is a vet in a small town in Montana which means there's absolutely no way she doesn't service every farm and ranch within a two hour radius. Just imagine she brings Knuckles along to vaccinate/de-worm and preg check at a bison farm. She's arm deep in a bison when she looks over to see Knuckles out in the pasture, headbutting the 2000 lb bull... Just country vet shenanigans please
Me: *googles how to tell how big your cat will get*
Article: a very crude rule of thumb is that a 5 month old kitten weighs just over half of their final adult weight
Me, looking at 7 pound Buckley: Well, shit
Me: when I called you my "small cute mountain lion" there were two words in that sentence I wanted you to focus on
Buckley:Mountain lion!
Me: NO
Tomorrow is the day! Bucky's cardiologist visit is finally here. Again, my heartfelt gratitude goes out to everyone who shared and donated for us to be able to get this done.
One more request? Please keep good thoughts that we get a reassuring prognosis.
- Urinalysis looks great. Nothing concerning. I was kind of hoping he had UTI since it's easy to treat and known, but nothing. Which is also good.
- He is going off his antibiotics for the next few days since his wound is looking much better. Adding anti acids.
- Then we see if his eating goes back to normal. If he's not eating normally tomorrow or Friday and/or throwing up, he's going to have to go to the vet, so they can run a bunch of labs.
"My God, your entire life rests on how you do in three exams in your last year." My god Siobhan, same. The whole American experience is wild to me, that last year is where you're done with everything. Last year meant everything for our High Schools, where if I failed even one exam I was fucked. I'd have to take an elective year just for the chance of fixing that fuckup. I was one ball of stress throughout that whole fucking year, and then I got math and biology as my exams. I thought I was going to die.
So, I guess, nice (??) to know someone else at the table had the experience of their last year in HS being a nightmare of a time. Also, horrifying. What is up with us Europeans where everything hinges on just a few exams that are randomly selected and can be in your worst subject?
I have officially completed my 2 week mentorship program and today I completed on-boarding for my job! monday is my first official day working as a vet at my hospital!!! I’ll be shadowing one of the experienced doctors in surgery on monday, then on tuesday I will be completing a lecture to earn my USDA certification so I can perform travel certificates for pets, and then wednesday I will be seeing my first ever patients as a doctor! I’m super excited but definitely nervous. these 2 weeks of mentorship have helped me to get back into the rhythm of all things vet med and have eased some of my nerves and anxiety!
I also received cookies, a yeti flask bottle, and a card signed by all the staff in my hospital welcoming me to the clinic and saying how excited they are to work with me! also exciting is that I get a semi-private office! I’m sharing with the managing doctor of the practice and I get my own side of the desk with my own computer and get to decorate it however I want! and since the managing doctor is starting to work less hours at the clinic, it will be more my office than hers since I’ll be spending more time at the hospital than she will!
