I made a volume 10 trimax vash cosplay for MAGfest and I am SO proud of how it came out :) Some process stuff below! Warning for image and text heavy.
Truthfully this cos is only about 85% complete—I’d purchased a bunch of hardware to really go in on a volume accurate version of his undersuit and belts, but simply ran out of time before the con. It was the first cosplay I’ve sewn since 2017 and the first wig styling I’ve done since 2020, so I’m not gonna beat myself up too much!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This is all purse hardware off Etsy and some buttons from M&J trim)
This was my first time ever making a muslin mock-up, but I knew it was going to be necessary to get the coat to lay the way I wanted it to. I really wanted to try and create proportions that elongated the legs/torso and widened the shoulders by placing the coat tail splits appropriately and raising up the shoulders with some padding. And of course arm and leg details that I’ll get to someday lol.
Tumblr media
I created two mock-ups. One of basic muslin that helped me go from an existing pre-bought pattern to something more Vash-shaped, then a second one on a slightly sturdier scrap fabric with my finalized torso proportions with padding so I could accurately pattern out the sleeves and collar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was tracing my pattern pieces onto newsprint and vellum as I went, so once all of those were finalized, it was time to cut my fabric! I used a heavy cotton twill from B&J fabrics and two kinds of fusible interfacing from Mood (I’m spoiled by being local to the fashion district these days). A smarter person would have bought a thinner fabric to line the inner torso with, but I did not feel like getting that complicated with my first ever muslin-drafted AND lined project, so I simply cut double of every pattern piece in order to create a lining.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sleeves were done by interfacing and cutting into a top panel, carefully snipping at the cutout portions, ironing and fabritacking in place, and then top stitching the whole piece to the main sleeve. I later added some leather backing squares and interfacing behind the larger eyelets for aesthetic while keeping the ventilation in tact. Ideally in the future I'll also add a strip of fabric to the gun arm that creates a slight bunching effect since that sleeve is a little more ruffled over the cuff. Photos below also include three shoulder pads pinned together on each shoulder, but I ended up forgetting not using them on my final wear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately at this point I was approaching con time, so I started cutting some corners that I made easily replaceable for future upgrades. The coat tabs are just painted craft foam cut to the size of the buttons, tacked in place where the button pierces through the tab and where it wraps around the edge of the front panel. The straps that attach to the lapel and wrap under the arms also were just decorated with some silver trim instead of hardware, and I skipped the side button panels at his hips for pattern-making simplicity and time. They'll be added later! I'd also love to do some weathering, but don't think I can quite bring myself to riddle the coat tails with bullet holes as some people do haha.
Tumblr media
Gun arm attachment was also a quick and dirty addition, just some vinyl trim on eva foam attached with contact cement and a decorative button. First time working with contact cement somehow, but I look forward to also being able to upgrade this at a later date to a more accurate shape with the full belt attachments!
Tumblr media
I was also hoping to update the shoes a bit by making some boot covers for them and rub-n-buffing the soles to disguise the platform a bit, but I love my pick for the cleat-look that Vash has! Some good ol' Demonias in classic vash fashion :)
Last but not least: The Wig. My pride and joy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I got lucky enough to nab an Arda sale, I think right before Halloween, and picked up the Morpheus lace front in black, along with some extra wefts in pale blonde. (I also bought a whole separate pale blonde Morpheus wig, boldly thinking I could swing a normal trimax vash wig lol. It made for a convenient Eriks wig in the mean time.)
Since I was aiming for the end of volume 10 post-Wolfwood death look, I started by trying on the wig, roughly tracing out my hairline, then gently unweaving that portion of black in order to re-ventilate it with blonde.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After I replaced that whole strip of plucked hair, I tried on again to finalize where I needed to ventilate to cover my own hairline, and completed my outline with both blonde and brown-black wefts (i had them on hand lol). All in all, I ventilated more than 4 square inches of blonde, and at least a solid centimeter extension of the black hairline across the whole front of the wig. Probably close to 30 hours of work in the ventilating alone, but I am a little slow since I haven't ventilated in a few years and didn't keep clear track of time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If there's one thing I should be used to by now about Arda wigs, they are THICK. There is zero teasing in this wig. None. Just got2b, a blowdryer, and a prayer. And a good load of bobby pins. The wig was also sadly a last minute hotel room mad dash, and I do hope to restyle it under less duress, but I do think I successfully achieved the Trimax swoop and am very proud of it! It was unbelievably windy on the walk from our hotel room to MAGfest, so the photos in the start of this post show a bit more droop than my initial styling, but I think I'll be able to touch things up next wear.
And of course, shoutout to my partner for gifting me the official glasses for Christmas :) And thank you to my roommates who barely saw me for a month and a half except for when I needed help with a hem lol.
All in all, I am unbelievably proud of this cosplay, I can't wait to put some more love into it and wear it again!

Thanks for the tag, @africanmorning!
Favorite Pseudonym: Das Energi is the one I have used for 20+ years. I even own dasenergi.com
Time Zone: Pacific
Star Sign: I am a Pisces. Here is the whole chart:
Tumblr media
Favorite Holidays: Christmas Eve & Halloween. I’d like to celebrate Groundhog Day more, send Groundhog Day cards, have a Groundhog Day party.
Last Meal: Geronimo and I went to Modica’s Deli in Long Beach and I had a cold veggie sandwich with fresh mozzarella, roasted bell peppers, tomato, lettuce, pesto, oil & vinegar, and pickles. And I drank an iced mocha latte. I really should have breakfast.
Current Favorite Musician: I have been listening to @autumnluzarts a lot lately.
Last Music Listened to: Eartha Kitt, “Under the Bridges of Paris”
Last Movie Watched: Godzilla Minus One
Last TV Show Watched: For All Mankind
Last Book Finished: Francesca Lia Block, “The Hanged Man”
Last Book Abandoned: Do I ever truly abandon any book I haven’t finished yet? I fully expect to finish all of them some day. But the most recent book that has been sitting on my nightstand unread for weeks is, “The 21 Lessons of Merlyn: A Study in Druid Magic & Lore”
Currently Reading: Umm… “The 21 Lessons of Merlyn: A Study in Druid Magic & Lore”?
Books/Shows/Movies you want to get around to: Books - Oh, I have several on my to-read pile for 2024. Partciularly a few gay romance novels. I also want to re-read all of Francesca Lia Block's Weeztie Bat books. But I promised @teenakp I would read Terry Pratchett’s “Nation” next. Shows - I am eager to watch Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij’s “A Murder at the End of the World”. Movies - I am planning to rewatch all of the original Sean Connery James Bond movies. Followed by all the Indiana Jones movies. Or maybe it's the other way around.
Last Thing Researched: I looked up the lyrics to Eartha Kitt’s “Under the Bridges of Paris”. Does that count?
Last Thing Learned: Ummm… that “Under the Bridges of Paris” is totally about having sexy times under the bridges of Paris, just as I expected it to be. (It was the B-Side to Eartha Kitt's “Santa Baby” 45 RPM vinyl.)
Favorite Online Fandom Memory: Umm… Neil Gaiman reblogging one of my posts? Leslie Jordan congratulating me on publishing my first book?
Favorite Old Fandom You Wish Would Have A Resurgence: I expect I’ll probably rewatch “The OA” after watching Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij’s “A Murder at the End of the World”. It's been awhile since I rewatched it. I wonder what it will be like this time.
Favorite Thing You Enjoy That Never Had an Active or Big "Fandom" But You Wish It Did: Heck, I am surprised that “For All Mankind” even has a small fandom at all. Most things I like aren't very popular. But two shows that come to my mind. Back in 2020 Alex Garland had a great sci-fi show on Hulu called “Devs”. It deserved a bigger following when it aired. And more recently, there was a great French/Japanese show on Apple TV based on a manga about wine tasting called “Drops of God”. I wish it had a bigger following… I wanted people to talk to about it when the new episodes were airing weekly.
Tempting Project You Don't Have Time For: I know I have a follow-up to my book “Rewrite the Stars” inside of me. Like a do-over. I put so much of myself into that one and it never caught on. I had higher hopes for it. As an artist I try to push on the accepted norms of our medium — new ways of thinking, seeing, experiencing. But society doesn’t know how to approach things it doesn’t understand. Constantly feeling misunderstood isn’t very motivating. Why put so much time and effort into something that no one will read? The follow-up lives in my mind, and right now that is good enough for me. Who has time to write another book? I'd rather sleep and dream.
Tempting Project I've Given In to: Out with the old, and in with the new. I have been going through the house and garage getting rid of things I haven't used or doesn't resonate with me anymore. For example, I donated seven boxes of books to the Friends of the Library. But there is still a lot in this house I need to sort though. My current project is the garage. Next will be the closet.
Tagging: @persepinesascent and @teenakp if you are in the mood for it.

I think that if I had any criticisms of Evil Dead Rise, it would be this:
The cheese grater was overhyped in the promotional material considering it amounted to a quick scrape. I feel like that was originally a longer sequence that got trimmed for censorship.
I don't think the setup needed to be quite so convoluted and low-concept. A mother of three was recently abandoned by her husband and they live in an earthquake-prone city inside an apartment complex that was built over a bank whose underground vault is where priests hid the necronomicon and the associated vinyl records of its translation, and her roadie sister got an unplanned pregnancy so she came to visit for moral guidance and she didn't know the mom got ran out on. There's a lot of small parts and a lot of backstory for characters even if there's little to no narrative relevance, which seems to be very popular in 2020's horror. You know, I didn't even know Danny was trans. I just thought they cast an actual baby-faced teenager to play him. Which I guess is how you do it, you don't call attention or make a big deal out of it. But in retrospect it makes it seem as if for all the horrible things a deadite will say and taunt you with, transphobia is crossing a line for them. Which is not a complaint, it's just funny.
Ellie, Bridget, and Danny fusing together was a little silly.
Caleb's severed head in the cold open didn't look that great.
But overall, I did very much enjoy this film. It was definitely better than some other recent franchise additions like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hellraiser and Halloween Ends. I heard the deadite tenants not being accounted for by the end of the film was supposed to be like a sequel hook, which I would be all for, but they should have made a post-credit scene drawing attention to that. Also, Bruce Campbell's vocal cameo in the priests' record was allegedly Ash himself having traveled through time again, which is a whole story we're being deprived of.

Plans for My 2022 Summer Solstice
Tumblr media
Hello there! It's that time of year again. That's right. We're coming up on the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, aka Litha, aka Midsummer, aka one of my favorite natural phenomena that I've come to love celebrating.
Seriously, I enjoy it far more than Yule or Christmas or [insert other holiday normal folks love more than I do]. If I had to rank my favorite days of the calendar in relation to my spiritual journey, it would go Halloween, the Summer Solstice and the Fall Equinox.
Anyway, because work has been especially busy for me this past few months and I'm well overdue for a mental timeout, but can't take one until July, I'm trying to make this a bit more reasonable and relaxed compared to the last 2 Midsummers I celebrated in 2020 and 2021.
Famous last words, right?
This year's solstice weekend also falls on the same weekend as Juneteenth and Father's Day here in the US. And I'll be visiting my folks that Sunday before Litha to enjoy some good food, games and movie watching. (As well as sneak in a load of laundry.)
But when I return home, I hope to spend as much of the next 2 days as digital free as I can. I mean, I'll need my DVD player to run my Pilates workout, and I'll probably listen to music or a podcast while I cook dinner.
But I really want to try to detox a little bit and focus on simple joyful activities that don't involve a TV, computer, or the internet. So below you'll see me list things like: read my book (printed, not digital); listen to vinyl records; paint; ride my bike in the park; etc.
It's a way to fill the day with joyful experiences while also allowing my senses to connect with what truly moves me in the analog world. And hopefully with fewer EM field emissions.
Without further ado, here's the plan so far ...
Sunday, June 19th ---
Spend the day at my Mom's house ✔️
Relax ✔️
Play trivia game ✔️
Wash laundry ✔️
Enjoy family dinner ✔️
Monday, June 20th ---
Meditate + Tao study + Tarot reading ✔️
Do Pilates workout ✔️+
Work on jigsaw puzzle ✔️
Make Lavender Lemonade ✔️
Go for a walk in the park ✔️
Bake Honey Cakes
Plant flowers in new pot
Paint while listening to vinyl records ✔️~
Write in journal
Tuesday, June 21st ---
Watch sunrise (5:13 am EDT) ✔️
Read my book ✔️
Meditate + Tarot reading for the Solstice ✔️
Go for bike ride in the park
Cook Summer Solstice menu ✔️
Dance around the house
Relax ✔️
Watch sunset
Watch fun/silly movie or TV show (maybe the new season of Derry Girls or Sonic the Hedgehog 2) ✔️
As for the menu, it's essentially the same as last year's, but with a small change:
Breakfast:
Peppermint tea with honey ✔️
Toast with apricot jam ✔️
Banana ✔️
Lunch:
Fresh spinach salad with cherry tomatoes & mushrooms ✔️
Pasta with basil and diced tomatoes ✔️
Honey cake
Lavender lemonade ✔️
Snack:
Apple
Water with lemon ✔️
Dinner:
Baked chicken breast ✔️
Fresh spinach salad with cherry tomatoes & mushrooms ✔️
Honey cake
Ice cream ✔️
Vodka Collins
I'm worried I'll be stuck in the kitchen all day if I save the cooking for the day of the Solstice, so I'm going to make the lemonade and honey cakes the day before.
We'll see how this year's plans play out. Hopefully, it will be as relaxing as I like and need it to be.
Watch this space!

In the spirit of Halloween, here is the first game I updated/modified for the Halloween carnival my Auxiliary hosts. We took over hosting the carnival in 2019. We didn't have on in 2020 (for obvious reasons), and I started updating games for our second year, in 2021.
Tumblr media
I kept the basic assembly because it was actually really well made. I just thought the laminated pieces of posterboard should go. They are not all the same size and other than the green, they all the have the same number of chances of being landed on. So, what is the point of having small, medium, and large prizes if it is going to be completely arbitrary?!
Tumblr media
I took the wheel off the wood frame and painted it all black. I used my Cricut to help me cut 12 triangles so they would all the same size. I also cut out the middle circle and the arrow with it as well. The pumpkin with candy in it on the base was made with the "print then cut" feature on the Cricut. I used some fun Halloween card stock and glued it all down with ModPodge. Once it was all together, I used another coat or two of ModPodge to seal it all as well. The name of the game was made with vinyl and I used my Cricut for that as well.

Brett Thoughts
I am keytaryourheart so it is time for some key talk. Not Tim Key.. the keyTAR.
I haven’t been blogging about BD lately even tho this technically started as a BD blog. Also my latest hyperfixations have been absolutely bonkers so BD as been put on the back burner so to speak.
So I’m gonna start by recapping the releases of late last year and maybe a little bit of the TikToks.
I’m a Werewolf (Unfortunately)
Solid. I haven’t listened to it much because ehhhhhh. Unfinished business will always be my #1 for halloween and Spook Me Up has the “Please feast on me” line which is CRAZY plus it had the keytar solo. I’m a Werewolf was a little too Tom Cardy for my liking and I do like Tom Cardy but this just didn’t really do it for me unfortunately. UNFORTUNATELY!
Everybody Needs to Know it’s Christmas
This was a revamp, remake, remix, rendition whatever whatever of the how to make a hit christmas song or something and I don’t know the exact name because I believe he’s PRIVATED IT! Goodness gracious. Anyway, the new version is really good so I get if he wants this to be the Final.Version.mp3. Although the original Pinocchio still very much holds up even with the 2020 version out. Oh well. The only thing I didn’t like about this 2022 version was the child choir. One of my biggest musical pet peeves. I just don’t get it. The figgy pudding line makes up for it though.
The Right Side of History
I like this. Like it’s good you know? Yeah.
TikTok has been interesting. He’s having fun, he’s getting views. Good for him.
NOW we can get onto the mother flipping Patreon.
Around 73 people expressed interest in subscribing to a Rob J Madin Patreon and apparently not all have followed through. I know there was a BDT Patreon a while back but that’s defunct.
So the Patreon will give you 1 new single everything month and this month it’s Lola (4-Letter-Word-Song) the sequel kinda to Bin Guy. It’s good. I like it a lot. I never thought I’d hear Brett say the phrase “hits diff” ever in my life. It’s a lot of fun and I got into it immediately. It go me really excited for all the BD stuff to come this year. I’m on the highest tier (I believe) but the first one is still really good and definitely worth it. I’m just a crazy fan which is why I’m forking out.
For the middle and high tier you get stuff from the archives. Which is pretty exciting given how much has been fucking archived LMAO. There are also some sick as discounts for Bandcamp and Vinyl. I’ve already bought mostly everything I want from Bandcamp so that’s not really useful to me. I also normally buy stuff for more than the minimum pay what you want anyway. I also already have the Keytar Your Heart Vinyl. Maybe I get one for playing and one for displaying. I’m only joshing that would be unwise.
The highest tier is the T-Shirt tier because guess what, you get a T-Shirt! Keep in mind you need to be in that tier for 3 months in order to be eligible to get the shirt. It’s got the Steamroller pineapple but with ROB J MADIN on the pineapple spikes. It looks like the pineapple is going to be the Patreon symbol which I totally dig I think it’s really nice.
I’ve just realised that the Bandcamp discount also extends to the merch. I highly highly highly recommend the Home Studio tote it is fucking massive, fits all of my shit and just looks so cool. I’m from Melbourne where we take totes very seriously and my god I secretly think I have the best one in the major metropolitan area.
So that’s it! That’s my spiel. I’m beyond estatic about this direction. I hope RJM gets what he was looking for out of this Patreon (lots of money) and we get some amazing lovely tunes spanning from Brett Domino all the way to Ironwood. Cheers RJM! Here’s to 2023 🍻

Giddy Wishes From The Bingo Trappers Bingo Trappers (Morc/ About Halloween Time/ Grapefruit/ Unread) (released in 2020)
Bingo Trappers are Waldemar Noë and Wim Elzinga, a duo from Amsterdam who have been recording wonderfully lo-fi catchy songs for 25 years.  I only discovered them through my brother when they appeared on his Top 50 Most Played Albums of one of the years of the pandemic.  My notes are an absolute mess (a rarity for me) and I can’t even track down any information from 2021 which is when I suspect this album landed on his Top 50.
The reason there are so many labels following the album title and band name is because that is how many labels release their work.  Their music is incredibly difficult to come by, so for someone such as myself just coming to their music I’m out of luck.  They’ve only had six albums released on vinyl (according to Unread Records’ website) and their last album, Elizabethan saw only 100 copies released in the US!  Morc comes from Belgium, About Halloween Time is an Italian label while both Grapefruit and Unread come from the US.  Grapefruit is where I bought this copy via bandcamp and that is the label run by Simon Joyner and Ben Goldberg.
Above you see the album cover which is hand silkscreened and makes for a very nice presentation.  The second photo is the back of the album cover.  Below you will find a copy of the insert that comes with the album.  The back side is left blank which is why I have not photographed it.

This is an easy album to play and as I’ve been writing this brief summary (and looking up info about the band) I’ve already heard it twice.  Below you will find the labels for the album.

The cover for the album in Italy via the Almost Halloween Time label varies depending on which cover you obtain.  That label offers up 60 different hand painted covers, many of which feature Gram Parsons’ infamous suit coat designed by Nudie!  Between the covers for Giddy Wishes and those for Elizabethan, I’m tempted to place an order!  Check out their work at this link: https://www.underwaternow.com/product/bingo-trappers-giddy-wishes-lp/

It’s day 25 of the #septemberspins vinyl challenge by @vinylhandle and @shutupaboutvinyl: Pretending: An Album That Would Make a killer Movie. Lou Reed - New York (Sire, 1989/2020) I’m imagining either a gritty drama, directed by Abel Ferrara or Martin Scorsese, that features vignettes based on the multiple characters and storylines Reed introduces on this classic album, from the impoverished dreamers of Romeo Had Juliette to the AIDS-ravaged Halloween Parade, or maybe an even grittier documentary drawing on the resonances between 1989 NYC and 2022 America. Trump and Giuliani are here, along with a plethora of other corrupt and venal figures. I was lucky enough to see Reed perform New York in its entirety on Broadway, which was a story in itself! #vinyl #vinylcollection #vinylgram #vinylgeek #vinylcollector #vinylcollection #records #vinylchallenge #vinylcommunity #septembervinylchallenge https://www.instagram.com/p/Ci8bxBnA_9v/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
