Binderary - Part 2, AnS fics with lots of pairings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I made two quarter-letter copies of Virtue has a Veil, and Vice a Mask by @sabraeal. Both use the same homemade bookcloth, quilting fabric backed with calligraphy paper using heat 'n' bond. For this one the black pattern (from a book of art nouveau clip art) is iron-on vinyl; for the other the pattern was printed directly on the fabric using an inkjet printer. The white title was ironed on both.
What it Means to be a Knight by @puffdragongirl is quarter legal size, and the cover is a very similar approach with iron on vinyl on homemade quilting fabric bookcloth. I was very worried about how the thin parts of this font would behave, but they came out great! This book is a single signature Bradel binding, almost like a hardcover pamphlet.

Everyman (Justin Robinson) "Ian Covey is a doppelganger. A mimic. A shapeshifter. He can replace anyone he wants by becoming a perfect copy; taking the victim’s face, his home, his family. His life. No longer a man, but a hungry void, Ian Covey is a monster. David Tirado is a massive, hideous colony organism, a gestalt entity. The sum of Covey’s discarded parts. A roiling, chaotic patchwork of vast and varied personalities, memories, and physical forms that used to be a man − many men − David Tirado is a monster. Sophie Tirado’s identity has been eroded by the tides of a long relationship, and now the man she gave herself up for has been stolen away and replaced by a mimic. Caught between the Doppelganger and the Gestalt Entity, she will try to save her husband, but there might be nothing left of him. Virtue has a veil, vice a mask, and evil a thousand faces."
The Double (Fyodor Dostoyevski) "In Saint Petersburg, Yakov Petrovich Golyadkin works as a titular councillor (rank 9 in the Table of Ranks established by Peter the Great[3]), a low-level bureaucrat struggling to succeed.
Golyadkin has a formative discussion with his physician, Doctor Rutenspitz, who fears for his sanity and tells him that his behaviour is dangerously antisocial. He prescribes "cheerful company" as the remedy. Golyadkin resolves to try this, and leaves the office. He proceeds to a birthday party for Klara Olsufyevna, the daughter of his office manager. He was uninvited, and a series of faux pas lead to his expulsion from the party. On his way home through a snowstorm, he encounters a man who looks exactly like him, his double. The following two thirds of the novel then deals with their evolving relationship.
At first, Golyadkin and his double are friends, but Golyadkin Jr. proceeds to attempt to take over Sr.'s life, and they become bitter enemies. Because Golyadkin Jr. has all the charm, unctuousness and social skills that Golyadkin Sr. lacks, he is very well-liked among the office colleagues. At the story's conclusion, Golyadkin Sr. begins to see many replicas of himself, has a psychotic break, and is dragged off to an asylum by Doctor Rutenspitz."

ic context
saints and sinners. this is a highly anticipated event in the social calendar celebrating na aera's birthday. it will be held in a brand new club in apgujeong, nine, on the night of may 21. saints and sinners is a themed costume and masquerade party. guests are expected to arrive dressed as their take on the ‘saints and sinners’ theme. devil horns, angel wings, halo headbands, virgin mary’s veil, serpent from the garden, etc—get creative! decadence, extravagance, debauchery—you name it; all the vices are coming and virtues have been advised to stay home. there are few rules under this roof: dress to impress, bring a gift and have fun.
dj dante, a very popular dj, is expected to turn the tables until the party ends. gift tables are located by the entrance. there are three lavish private rooms located down a staircase hidden from plain view, if you know who to ask. there is no vip section as the party is an open invitation. all characters are free to attend. since it’s an open invite, there will be a line around the block of hopefuls trying to get in and peek a glance at the life of the rich and glamorous that they’ve only seen through their cellphone screens. everyone is required to keep their masks on once inside; masks come off at midnight, with a 30-second countdown that everyone will participate in.
SCHEDULE
9 PM - party starts.
11:11 PM - birthday cake is brought out. everyone gathers to sing happy birthday. birthday girl makes a wish and blows out her candles. party resumes.
11:59:30 PM - countdown to midnight begins, led by the birthday girl and dj.
12 AM - masks off. party resumes.
sometime the next morning - party ends.
EVENT ACTIVITY
if your character will be attending, you must make a post about what they’re wearing to the party by may 25. this post must state whether they came as a saint or a sinner, and at least a brief description of what their mask looks like. this post can be anything from a short one-paragraph text post describing their outfit to a media edit with pictures. tag the main blog in this post. (if you would like, you can also include additional info like who they got ready with, who they’re bringing, what gift they’re bringing, what their itinerary for the night looks like, wanted connections for the event, any headcanons, etcetera.) this post will count as an ic post for activity check.
this is a para-pairing event to encourage interaction among all characters and members! all attendees will be randomly paired for an event-themed interaction, prioritizing pairs who haven't interacted yet on dash. a prompt will be provided for the interaction. prompts and pairings will be sent out via submit box from may 28-june 1, so make sure to have your submit open.
ooc info
this event is open and optional to all muses.
since this event is more involved than usual and comes with an activity, it will be the event for the months of may and june. (this is to give everyone enough time to plot and start new interactions, as well as finish interactions and conclude plots from past events. to avoid a pile up of outdated threads, it is highly encouraged that you wrap up threads and plots from past events before starting new ones for this event.)
you may start interactions about this event until june 30.
use the tag #xoxo.event03 for all posts about this event.
approach the main blog if you have any questions.

For the ask game: Virtue has a veil, vice a mask - Santi/Dario
Ooooh, how DELICIOUS. Great title, great theme, amazing ship of course.
I'm going to call this a PWP where Dario cheats on Khalila with Santi the day before, of, or just after his wedding, because he doesn't think that Khalila can 'debase herself to meet his dark, depraved desires' (Dario shut up you are a baby), and Santi can, and does. In detail.
(up in the air what Khalila's take on the situation would be but I certainly have opinions)

Perhaps the best response is to reimagine the concept in a form that shows what lies beneath it. Envision “Emotional Intelligence” and the books descended from it as morality plays for a secular era, performed before audiences of mainly white professionals. In a theatre that admits no light or sound from the outside world, the audience watches as poor, begrimed laborers and criminals are pushed onstage to shoot their kids and stab their teachers. Pricked by the masked vices of Rage, Depression, and Anxiety, shamed by the veiled virtues of Empathy, Mindfulness, and Reason, the players have no chance at salvation. The lessons of emotional intelligence are not theirs to learn. When the curtain falls, the audience members turn to one another to talk softly about how to teach their children to avoid such a fate, how to live happily in a world where one is bound to be inconvenienced by the violent impulses of others. Even from the front row, they cannot see that the masks and veils hide a reality in which they are no freer than the players they condemn. To pull back the mask would be to uncover an impotence they all share. And it might allow the audience and the cast to rise together, becoming angry to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way, toward the right people, who have, for the past twenty-five years, sold them some of the most alluring and quietly repressive ideas in recent history.

Transcript from one of SHYH’s lectures.
The concupiscence of the eye.
Josef Piper says not for nothing the holy scripture name concupiscence of the eyes among the three powers which constitute the world that lieth in the power of evil. It reaches the extreme of its destructive radicating power when it builds itself a world, according to its image and likeness. When it surrounds itself with restlessness and perpetual moving pictures of meaningless shows. “What better description of pornographic images”; says SHYS. With literally defianing noise of impression sensations breathlessly rushing past the window senses, behind the flimsy pomp of its facade dwells absolute nothingness.
And this is what Kierkegaard talks about despair being at root of hedonistic lifestyle and this pursuit pleasure is merely an attempt at masking the emptiness that they feel. The void emptiness is being filled with titillation stimulation and impuriance.
William Blake says that nakedness of a woman is the work of God. Chastity and purity has always been the great virtue that comes naturally to women but which man must learn. The Quran uses Mary, mother of Christ, as a great paragon of chastity and virtue and purity of heart and described her as an ideal for man and women. Quote; “God has made an exemplar for those who believe in Mary, who guarded her chastity; so We breathe Our spirit into her and she confirms the pronouncement of her Lord and who among the pious.”
It is from women that men learn chastity and purity which in turn protect the sacred nature of women alluded to in the Arabic word for woman "hurma " which means that which is sacred. Now the failure in man imitating women in their natural virtue has resulted in women rejecting the double standard of man and imitating man in their natural vice. The spiritual power of women is great but so to their power to their physical attraction to man, it is this power that causes violent man to dominate women and virtuous man to honour and want to protect them, but that physical power the female form over men is a sensory power that veils man from her metaphysical meaning. Her sensual forms prevent men lost in carnality From knowing her spiritual reality. She is the source of mercy in the world. The Arabic and Hebrew word for womb is "Rahim" "Raham'' from that derived the word mercy "Rahmah". The womb is also an expression of the creative power of God and men in degrading women we degrade the highest quality of our human nature, in elevating her, we elevating our highest nature . When her natural virtues, compassion, kindness, caring, selflessness and love, predominate in men, men are able to overcome their natural vices and realize their full humanity, when however when those virtues are absent, men descend to the lowest of the low and are worse than beasts.
In unveiling the outward beauty of a woman, we became veiled from her inward beauty. As a poet from the distant past; Jami’ (Abd al-Rahman Jami) as equal to Rumi and Persian tradition said " I said to my rose-cheeked lovely, “O you with bud-like mouth, why keep hiding your face, like flirting girls?” She laughed and said, “Unlike the beauties of your world, In the veil I’m seen, but without it I’m hidden.".

Edgar estava exausto.

After the pointless talk with Elraine and refused still to cooperate with her plans they yet again sent to another world but this time they were separated. Judas woke up in a unknown place but it doesn't have to take a genius to figure out that he was in a garden, at first glance it was plain obvious. He rose from the ground and observed the new place that Elraine used to be his destination to prevent Judas from trying to stop her. He was already deemed to her useless after he refused the priestess but he doesn't regret any of his choice. Judas then decided to look for any clue regarding this place, he has to find Kyle and the others, regroup once more and go back to the their time. While walking around the vicinity, he caught a sight of a girl nearby with a pink hair, judging by her clothes she wasn't an ordinary or a commoner. A member of a royal family to be specific.
Tumblr media
Judas walked closer to the pink haired lass and approached her calmly, ❛ Pardon but do you mind if I ask a few questions? ❜

Possessing Jessie (Nancy Springer) "Quiet, cautious Jessie had always lived in the shadow of her dynamic younger brother--her mother's clear favorite. His recent death leaves Jessie and her mother numb with grief. That is, until the morning Jessie cuts her hair and dresses in Jason's clothes, swaggering out of the house in an uncanny imitation of her brother. Her mother is visibly cheered, and for once Jessie is the center of attention at school. But each day Jason takes over Jessie more and more. Can she escape his power?"
