honeysuckle - aki h.
Tumblr media
aki hayakawa loves his sister, perhaps a little too much…
cw: dark content, nsfw, incest, mental illness, trauma, gore/accidental self-harm, guilt (aki does bad things and feels bad about it), noncon, grooming/underage assault, so so many other things
aki might be ooc but i really wanted to write this for him <;/3
this has a LOT of triggering potential so interact at your own discretion!
“Aki…taste this!”
Your soft little voice rings out in the meadow as you bound over towards the boy, your hand outstretched with a few small flowers inside.
“Taste it?” Your brother scrunches up his nose. “What are you talking about, stupid?”
“It tastes like sugar! Here, let me show you.”
Your small hands pinch the base of one of the blossoms, right at the trumpet, and with a gentle tug of the stamen, you unpeel the flower.
“Look, there’s the nectar.” A tiny drop hangs on the stamen. “Taste it, Aki, taste it!” He humors you, kneeling to let you place it in his mouth. A light, sweet flavor spreads across his tongue, and he hums.
“Tastes good.” “I got a bunch of them so that Taiyo can try.” He nods, smiling softly, although his stomach curls a little whenever you say his name. It’s stupid, he knows: he shouldn’t be jealous of his sister’s love for his brother. You love both of your brothers, and you love them the same.
Aki doesn’t want to be the same as Taiyo, though. Not in your eyes. He’s not sure what he wants, but it’s not that.
His throat stings with a bitterness none of your nectar could help with.
___
“Aki…” you breathe softly, your hands fluttering over his shoulders. “G’morning…”
“Morning.” He breathes it into your neck, along with a soft kiss. “Slept well?” You nod, smiling gently. You always have that look about you — dazed and happy. You don’t seem to feel much else lately.
“I dreamt about the meadow…when w-we were little.” “Did you?” He wraps his arms around your waist.
You nod again, melting into his embrace.
“...dreamt that you and I were picking honeysuckle.”
He chuckles. You and your flowers.
“Can’t remember w-what it tastes like, though…”
“You can’t? I can.” He remembers, clear as day. Holding your hand in the early summer, the two of you running through the field by your old house. You’d stop and wait for Taiyo, which would make him pout, and then the three of you would skip at your pace to the river. Taiyo would search for shiny rocks and you would pick honeysuckle while Aki read under the shady tree…
“Aki?”
You look up at him with big, wide eyes, innocent and pure.
“A-Am I gonna leave the house today?”
He tucks a lock of hair behind your ear.
“Don’t think so.” Your face doesn’t even fall anymore. “It’s safer for you to stay inside. Especially with my job…” You don’t even know what his job is. You wouldn’t understand if he told you, so you don’t ask.
“Okay, Aki…” Nothing is sweeter than your blind trust.
___
You hear from a woman in town that honeysuckle tea has healing properties, and immediately set about making it for your brother.
Taiyo has been sick for over two years now. Aki wants to call you stupid: if the doctors can’t help him, there’s no way that your silly tea will. But he holds his tongue because knows you’ll cry if he tells you the truth.
You crush the flowers in the kitchen, humming quietly to yourself. For only being nine, you have an endearing determination that draws Taiyo to you, and he sits beside you, watching intently.
“What are you doing?” “Making you tea. It’ll help you.”
“Really?” He smiles softly. “Thank you.” Once you’ve put the flowers into water, you let it sit for a long time in the fridge. Your parents leave to take Taiyo to his weekly doctor’s appointment, so you and Aki are left alone, something that happens all too often. You sit next to him on the couch, eventually falling asleep on his chest.
He smiles, stroking your hair softly. Such a small child, so soft and innocent. You are nothing if not blind — blind with hope, with joy, with love. Aki won’t break your heart by telling you that your brother won’t live past Christmas.
Honeysuckle tea won’t mend the wounds in your hearts after you lose him, and he knows that.
___
The door swings open, and you immediately stand, putting your little fidget toy down and running over to him.
“Aki!” He brushes past you, his face set in a hard line. There’s a splatter of blood across his jawline, one that your eyes widen at. You rise up on the balls of your feet, trying to wipe it away.
“You okay, Aki?”
“Stop,” he says softly, pushing you aside again.
“But you’re bleeding.” “No, I’m not.” “Aki, are you sure—” “Just shut the fuck up!” He shouts, shoving you away from him.
You stumble back, losing your footing and falling onto the floor in front of him.
“You’re such a stupid, stupid girl, fuck! Can you ever just leave me the fuck alone?!” A soft whimper comes from your lips, and he stops when he sees your wide-eyed gaze, watching him with those adorable eyes.
You’re not even crying. You don’t even look afraid. Just…confused.
“W-What did I…?” You ask after a little bit. “How…did I get on the floor?”
He lets out a long sigh, his eyes and throat stinging with guilt. “You tripped.” He reaches out a hand to help you up. “You feel okay?” “Mhm.” You nod, nuzzling into his shoulder. “M’fine, Aki.” “I know you are.” His hand trembles as it brushes over your hair. “I love you, sweet girl.” “Love you too…”
Later that evening, you lay on the bed, your hands gripping the sheets tightly. Soft whimpers leave your lips, your eyes big and glassy as they watch the ceiling.
“Aki…” He licks at the sensitive place between your legs, and you feel soft thrums of pleasure coming from your tightening stomach. With one particularly rough kiss, your mouth falls open and your eyes tear up.
“O-Oh…”
“Look at me, sweet girl.” You try, but you can’t adjust your gaze. It’s like you’re sinking into the bed, into your own body, down and away and disconnecting from everything physical.
“Hey.” You feel a slap against your thigh, but you don’t even react. “Hey! I said look at me.” “M…m’trying…” your head falls to the side. “I…” You drift off again, feeling yourself start to sink even deeper. There’s nothing for you to worry about though: it’s safe and warm and quiet, nothing but you and your brother and the pleasure he brings your body as he tastes your nectar.
___
“This is where I live, said the city mouse. And oh, what a big house it was! The city mouse’s family—” “Daddy, daddy! Can we play catch outside?” Your voice is soft, always so hesitant to speak to your parents.
Zipped into your coat, wrapped in a scarf and mittens, bundled into a beanie, you smile up at your parents excitedly. Your oldest brother stands behind you, a glove in his hands and a scowl on his face.
“Taiyo doesn’t feel well,” your father replies. “Why don’t you two play together, instead?” “He never does,” Aki mumbles. “I don’t remember him ever feeling good.”
“You’re the older brother.” Your mother’s face is all hard lines and tired eyes. “Be good and play with your sister alone.” Aki sighs, his hand on your shoulder. He doesn’t care whether your parents play or not. He just wants to be with you. The only reason that he humored you and came to ask with you was so you wouldn’t cry.
“I…I wanna play with them.” Taiyo’s voice is soft, looking at the two of you shyly.
You nod excitedly, bouncing on the balls of your feet. Aki tries not to roll his eyes. He doesn’t want to share you with your brother. His parents, his toys, his life…you’re the only thing in this house that still belongs to him.
He grits his teeth as he stomps through the snow. It’s blanketed everything outside in a layer of pure, glistening white. Aki’s walking ahead, too fast for Taiyo to keep up, so you bridge the gap by staying in the center.
“Quit following us,” he says bitterly.
Taiyo doesn’t say anything, still walking behind you, and you turn to look between the two of them.
“Aki—”
“Ugh, you’re so annoying! I said cut it out!” Without thinking, he launches a handful of snow at his little brother. It hits him in the chest, and the way you gasp and run over to make sure he didn’t hit him too hard makes Aki feel like he’s been hit himself.
“We’re gonna go play. By. Ourselves.”
Before you can scold him for being horrible, a ball of snow comes flying back at Aki and hits him square in the face.
Without thinking, you burst out laughing, along with Taiyo, and the two of you nearly collapse.
“He got you!” You say, giggling. “Aki!” “Stupid! Both of you are so stupid!” He throws another handful, this time at you, and you scream with glee as you hop in place.
“That was mean!” You shout, still laughing. “I’ll get you back!” He lets out a grunt of protest as your snowball hits him in the side, but you gasp as Taiyo hits you with one in turn.
“Traitor!” You get Aki in the face again, much to your delight, and he eventually gets frustrated and just pushes a handful into your face. You sniffle, brushing it off, and Taiyo pants heavily beside you, his pale hands quivering a little.
“Hey. If you catch a cold, we’ll get in trouble,” Aki says eventually.
“Maybe we should play catch instead…” you say softly. “His hands won’t be cold then!” The way your brother’s eyes light up is unlike anything you’ve ever seen since the day he came home from the hospital. It makes your stomach warm and floaty, and you giggle at what Aki says next.
“Go grab a glove from inside. We’ll wait right here, okay?”
“Okay…okay! Don’t go, okay?” “We’ll wait!” You say, calling after your brother. “Should I go with him? Does he know where the gloves are—
The loudest roar you’ve ever heard stops you as a violent, powerful wind blows you over. Aki instinctually grabs for you to keep you from being tossed up into the chaos, but it’s over as quickly as it started — just without your home anymore.
You don’t register that you’re screaming until your voice stops working.
___
You chop carrots in the kitchen to go atop the salad that you’ll have with dinner tonight. Aki bought garlic bread and you’ve put the pasta on to boil already. You’re glad he trusted you to make dinner, although you’re not sure why he wouldn’t.
Aki can be so distant sometimes. You can’t help but feel like he’s been drifting away from you, like you can’t focus on each other, like he’s been…fuzzy.
Or maybe it’s just your vision. You’re not sure which, although you know for certain that your dreams have been getting quieter. Softer. Less…just less. The same can be said for life, sometimes—the few and far between days that your brother tells you it’s safe to go outside, the colors seem a little more muted, the voices a little quieter around you.
It’s too much to think about. You push it out of your mind, starting to feel that pleasant, dull buzzing behind your eyes as your hand comes down over and over, chopping and chopping.
Aki leans back into his chair, slouching on the balcony. A cigarette hangs from his lips as he listens to the sounds of the city, the sun setting beneath the skyline. It’s beautiful, really.
Despite all his stress, he’s glad to have this home. To have you. To have a life together. Despite what the costs may be.
“Aki…” He turns to see you standing in the doorway, smiling softly, raising a hand with three fingers missing. “Dinner’s ready.”
He freezes with horror at the way the three stubs gush with blood, the flow almost rhythmic and red rivulets pouring down your slim forearm.
“Fuck!” Aki runs up to you, and you seem confused. He wants to swear again, now is not the time for your zoning out, for you to distance yourself.
“What happened?” He sits you on the toilet, the seat down and your head leaning against the wall. You whine a little as he presses a towel to staunch the blood flow, but still don’t seem to understand — gazing up at him with a sweet, dopey look in your eyes.
You cut off your own fingers, and you aren’t even scared.
Tears start to pour from his eyes before he can stop himself, and your face falls a little.
“Aki…what’s…wrong?” “I’m so sorry.” He weeps into your hair, his hands shaking. “I’m so, so sorry…” “For what?” You tilt your head, smiling softly.
“For everything…everything I’ve done.”
___
The first time Aki takes you, the guilt almost stops him.
You tremble when he brushes his hands against your stomach, whimpering a little.
“Tickles, Aki.” “I know. Stay still, okay?” The tiny apartment is nothing special. You’ve been holed up here for two months, courtesy of the government. Two months since you lost everything.
You cry pretty much every day. It’s practically all that you do.
“Why…why are y-you touching me?” You ask softly. “What are you doing?” “Just…just want to make you feel good. You’ve been so sad lately.” Your lip quivers, and he scoffs. Of course he said the wrong thing, and now you’ll start crying again.
“Come here. Let me kiss you, okay? You’ll feel better.” It’s an idea that makes you hesitate, but you don’t pull away when he leans in, pressing his lips to your softer ones. Your mouth tastes like the peach juice you drank with lunch, sweet like nectar.
You gasp after he pulls away, looking up at him with those same, big eyes. He kisses your forehead, tucking a lock of hair behind your ear.
“See?” You nod ever-so-slightly.
“S’better…but I…I-I’m still…” You start to sniffle again. “M’sorry, I—” “Don’t apologize. Let me still…let me make it better.” His lips attach to your neck, pressing soft but hungry kisses down the side of your neck. His mouth kisses your chest, the parts not covered by your tank top, and travels down to your bare stomach before he looks up at you, his face just above your hips.
Long, lithe fingers hook into your sleep shorts, and you whine as he pulls them down. You poor thing, you’re shaking. He knows how scary this must be, how overwhelmed your brain is, still so raw after all of what you’ve just lost.
He’s lost nothing. He has all he needs, right here.
One finger dips inside of you, and you let out a long, shaky whimper.
“Hurts, Aki—” “I know. Just relax.” You have a hard time “relaxing”, your hips bucking and legs twitching as a single digit inside of you fries your brain. He strokes the bony part of your hip, trying to help calm you.
“Just watch me, okay? Just…keep your eyes on me.” You nod, your teeth clamped down on your lip. A poor, sweet little flower ripped from its stem.
The white-hot cry you let out the first time he sinks into you is almost enough to make him stop.
“Aki! S’too m-much…” “I know. Just breathe. Look at me and breathe.” He finishes quickly, too young for true stamina. After he’s done, his sweaty forehead plastered to yours, he pulls away and out as gently as he can.
You collapse back onto the pillows, your small hands going up to cover the flower between your legs, red and irritated and dripping with fluids you don’t understand. Like bruised rose petals that drip with nectar, nectar mixed with the blood of your innocence.
___
For the first time in three months, Aki allows you to go outside.
“It’ll be good for you, I think.” He hopes it’ll be good for you. He’s losing you too quickly — whatever is eating away at your brain has been accelerating, and he hopes it’s not too late to try and bring you back, bring his sister back.
You walk to the nearest bus stop, dressed in a sundress he chose since you say they all look the same. On the bus, his fingers rest on your leg reassuringly, and your eyes flutter closed, head leaning against the window. Your mutilated hand dances over your other knee, your good finger stroking the soft floral fabric beneath it.
“M’sleepy, Aki.” “I know…just thought it would be fun.”
You smile softly and nod.
“Thank…thank y-you.” A gentle squeeze of your thigh makes you hum.
You reach the stop rather quickly. Dazed and distant, you follow behind your brother, your hand snug in his as he leads you down the trail. This is the last stop on the bus route — the end of the line, as they say.
He’s not sure what he’ll do if this can’t bring you back.
The gardens are beautiful at this time of day — half an hour past ten, a warm breeze ruffling your hair and the soft gurgling of the creek that runs through the area. Birds are singing nearby, flowers are in bloom, and it’s mostly empty save for the small children who frolic in the grass and the old couples feeding ducks by the water.
At the end of the field lies a stone retaining wall, about three feet high. At the top, there are thick tresses of ivy, along with the clusters of the flowers you taught him to identify.
“Ah, here we are.” He sits you down on the wall, smiling gently. You watch him, that same soft look on your face, although confused now as you see him pick some of the blooms.
“What’re you doing, Aki?” “They’re honeysuckle.” “Honey…suckle?” You hum. “That’s a pretty name.”
“Don’t you remember?” He kneels in front of you, one of the flowers in his hand. “You taught me how to eat them. Can you show me again?” You frown a little, but then giggle, shaking your head.
“Eat them? I don’t…remember. I-I’m sorry.”
His jaw clenches, and he shakes his head.
“No, no…you have to remember. For me. How do we...how do we get the nectar out?” You shrug, still smiling.
“Dunno, Aki. Don’t think I’ve ever heard of honeysuckles before.”

† all the devils are here: modern au & arranged/contract marriage au feat. hayakawa aki x reader.
Tumblr media
† setting: modern day, year xx23, spring
† starring: hayakawa aki, first son of the main hayakawa family (25) & y/n, the bride-to-be (23)
† feat. cameo appearances from: mr. hayakawa (aki’s father), mrs. hayakawa (aki’s mother), hayakawa taiyo (aki’s younger brother), & others .
† summary (of sorts): y/n has always been in her sister’s shadow her entire life, and she plays the meek, unassuming, naive younger sister role incredibly well. too well, if anything. aki, in comparison, has always had the spotlight shining brightly on him; his arrogance isn’t a flaw or misplaced, it’s well-earned — there’s a difference. and, according to him, it can’t be considered nepotism if he’s the best at what he does. the hayakawa family has had their hands in finance (private & public sector) over the past decade and are currently moving into politics — the main branch is run by its austere matriarch (aki’s grandmother), and she is highly selective  of who marries into their family. aki knows not to fuel his grandmother’s wrath, but a large part of him absolutely detests having someone else plan his entire life without his input. both y/n and aki are incredibly ill-suited for one another, but they’ll need one another’s help to get what they want — for y/n it’s freedom from the path of mediocrity and unattainable dreams; for aki, it’s freedom from the rigid society he’s grown to hate.
† word count: currently at 3k.
Tumblr media
† contains: fem reader, nsfw (18+ mdni), blood money, corrupt politics, arranged marriage where both parties have their hands tied (figuratively), dry humping publicly (the scandal of it all), idk cute stuff like getting caught while masturbating, public sex (probably), fwb shet, jealousy (idk what to tell u), alcohol consumption, smoking, blackmail, degradation/humiliation (i’m not sorry), aki’s family is the worst™ (but so is y/n’ lbr), enough angst to drown in 10x, enough smut to make even me blush (u know the vibez), betrayal bc i don’t love myself, reluctant enemies to lovers (not exactly enemies, but aki’s a brat as u know), maybe a bit of magical realism, plot twists on top of plot twists, & probably some kind of violence (we’ll see tho).
Tumblr media
† chapter 01 — occlude — (complete)
† chapter 02 — ephemeral — (in progress)
† chapter 03 — corazón — (in process)

† hiii! ʚ₍ᐢ. .ᐢ₎ɞ thanks for taking the time to read through everything, & i do hope you enjoy the story i’m tinkering away at. not sure how long this fic will be (story of my life), it’s smth ambitious (ofc it is), but i def will try to update as consistently as i can (we’ll see tho lmao). as i write, i’ll update the warnings list.† if you want to be added to the taglist then you can drop a comment or send me a message and i’ll add you!
† as previously stated, this is a modern au/ arranged | contract marriage au fic; i’ll try to keep as close to canon as possible with characterizations — and trying to incorporate elements from csm into a modern world setting is a little tricky, but i’m making it work i think, who knows atp.
† i have an idea of how i want this to end (unsurprising), and i don’t always stick to outlines so we’re all going to be in for a wild ride, u already know what time it is w.  me; just know that it’s a dark romance w. a lot of drama, there might actually be a happy ending yk, we’ll see.

Hiiii hello I saw your tags I'm climbing in here to ask about daisuke and okame ^^
i hold you. my most reliable mewtual. oblig spoilers for the entire series
Daisuke and Okame are two of the five main characters of the book trilogy Shadow of the Fox (written by Julie Kagawa, published 2019-2020)
Okay a little backstory on the plot itself. It's set in a fantasy version of Japan, Iwagoto, and heavily influenced by Japanese mythology. It follows a half-kitsune, Yumeko, and a demonslayer, Kage Tatsumi (and their group of friends that they pick up along the way. Mentioning Reika here. She's the head miko at this one really important shrine I can't remember the name of).
Essentially, there's this scroll that can summon a dragon and make a wish to alter reality every 1000 years or so. And after last time, it's been split up into three(?) pieces, to avoid. like. the possibility of someone being able to make said wish in 1000 years. Tatsumi has been sent by clan (the Kage/Shadow Clan, samurai iirc) to retrieve the pieces, and allies himself with Yumeko, who also wants to protect the pieces.
Tumblr media
this is literally the best photo I can find of the map online. i cannot find a good photo of the english map. have fun.
Now. Taiyo Daisuke is a noble of the Sun Clan. Related to the Emperor of Iwagoto. An excellent swordsman. Refined, courteous, cultivated, etc etc etc, but disagrees with nobility's prejudices and way of life. And like. Tartaglia levels of bloodthirst here. iirc he went around Iwagoto as Oni no Mikoto and challenging people to duels for shits and giggles. One of the reasons he joins the group is specifically to fight Tatsumi. Has kinda a "neither of us can die until I get to duel you" relationship w him.
Hino Okame is a ronin. Snarky, sarcastic, annoying, loyal to a fault. Archer, gambler, alcoholic. I think some of his backstory was revealed in book 3 but that was the first book i read and it's been about two years since i've read it. I remember he has an older brother he feels very guilty towards. VERY important though, mentioning he refers to himself as an 'honourless ronin dog' several times throughout the series.
Initially, there's a lot of tension going on between the two. I mean. Nobility and ronin. See the above two paragraphs, their personalities conflict in several ways. It's mentioned several times that Wow nobles are dicks to everyone else. so like. what do you expect. Initially, Okame calls Daisuke by his last name (Taiyo). Eventually we see that Daisuke is Not Like Other Girls Nobles, and treats commoners as equals, even Okame.
HOWEVER there's a scene (in book 2, iirc) where the group is travelling to the Steel Feather temple (somewhere in the mountain range). The Confession Scene. Middle of the night. Daisuke and Okame are talking underneath a tree.
It's pretty blatantly stated that they're star-crossed. With like. The whole social status difference and everything. Okame (and likely several other people) would get killed if someone were to find out the Taiyo nobleman was kissing a ronin. being considered less than human and all. yk how it goes.
But they still kiss. Under the moonlight. Tada.
Unfortunately, since this is third person limited with a POV swap between Yumeko and Tatsumi (and Suki in the third book, who is, for all intents and purposes of this post, irrelevant) and you're just Aware that this private scene is being watched by Yumeko (foxed, thank god, but still).
BUT from this point on, Okame calls Daisuke by his first name. And idk when exactly this starts, but Okame starts referring to Daisuke as a peacock, and to himself as a dog. I think it might've came up in the confession scene
As I mentioned earlier, Daisuke is, well, Daisuke. In addition to wanting to fight Tatsumi, his preferred manner of death is to "die a glorious death in battle". Noting here that while Okame being as brash as he is, gets scared shitless and is very vocal about it.
etc etc their relationship progresses over the course of the series, beta couple to Yumeko and Tatsumi.
Nearing towards the climax of the story, they're going up a mountain (pointing to the map. territorio clan de la luna. moon clan territory.) and they're trying to stop the bbeg from summoning the dragon. They get ambushed halfway, Okame is incapacitated, Daisuke stays behind to fight the oni while Yumeko and Tatsumi continue forward.
Briefly. before i recount this entire chapter. Okame gets fatally wounded, Daisuke ends up having to stab himself to defeat the oni. They bleed out in each other's arms. Fully 1000% cuddling soaked in (mostly) their own blood. And depart to Meido together. And later say their goodbyes to Yumeko together. Daisuke gets his wish to die a glorious death and Okame keeps his promise to stay loyal to Daisuke.
And most importantly, by the end of book 3, Okame's petname for Daisuke was 'peacock'.

I don't know your canons but tell me your favorite female character! Or how you got into them in the first place
This took me far too long because I couldn't find images dating back to the early 2000s that didn't look like it was photographed with a potato. Why is it easier to find high res images of older b/w movies ?
btw not spoiler free- so if you intend to watch this movie at any point in time, stop reading about halfway through cuz I talk about how the story ends.
Anyway, I give you---- my favorite girl bonding movie:
Shimotsuma Monogatari aka Kamikaze Girls
Tumblr media
Gothic Lolita Momoko ends up in cabbage country away from all the amenities she holds dear to her hedonistic french rococo heart. She meets a bosozoku girl named Ichiko/Ichigo at a time when yankee/bosozoku were considered oldstyle and uncool. Ichigo kinda head butts her way into Momoko's life.
Tumblr media
So I have a hard time relating to any sort of western style bonding movie, male or female, despite growing up in the US. I just... there was always something off about it. I hated the attitudes the kids had about their parents. I hated the kids. I hated the way they expressed their disillusionment. I couldn't relate to their dreams, their daily desires, or even their interactions with their own friends. Everything about these movies were an active turn off for me.
And then I came across 2 live action japanese movies that came out around the same time that was like having the sun come out for the first time because there it was -- not one, but TWO movies that spoke to me regarding coming of age and what it means to figure yourself out as a person.
For male-centered movie, it was the live action Ping Pong movie, based off Taiyo Matsumoto's manga Ping Pong. About two boys "sun" and "moon" trying to figure out who they are in relation to each other and to competition/talent/hardwork/actual dreams. While against the backdrop of competitive school ping pong where they face opponents that are attempting to figure out the same things bout themselves.
On the female-centric side was Kamikaze Girls which features a girl who's a self-obsessed french-rococo aesthetic loner, and a biker-gangster who's actually very group oriented despite being alone much of the time. They're both from subcultures that are fading from popularity -- and were even considered lame - stuck in the middle of an incredibly rural area (so rural they only have one Tesco as their main shopping center --- think walmart), and just... trying to figure themselves out.
Ultimately, both films are about finding the strength to be yourself not just amongst others who pressure you in other directions -- but also to have the strength to do so while you are completely alone. And on the flip side, strength is also being able to find and accept community and friendship where ever you are, from whoever you feel kinship with, even if they are a rival or traveling in completely different circles or trajectories in life.
All this while packaged in an aesthetic and gender sensibility that stressed balance between polar opposites -- where one friend was masc and the other femme and how both could balance each other or come together while retaining their individual goals and dreams and concepts of personhood.
So for Kamikaze Girls - since the question was about my favorite female characters:
Ichigo and Momoko were reflections of twin obsessions I had at the time with gothic lolita and yankee subcultures. One of the girls had a love line while the other had no interest in such things. One girl only cared about her hobbies while the other only wanted freedom and friends. In the end they find what they wanted and more. They both let go of things they thought were important to themselves -- to help each other. But without sacrificing who they are at their cores.
Ichigo realizes she too have Momoko's strength to go it alone.
Momoko realizes she doesn't hate people as much as she thought and she too needs community.
They're both willing to sacrifice for each other in the way the other person needs. Ichigo gives up her group to support Momoko.
Momoko gives up on being clean and alone and gets into a massive drag down fight in the mud with a group of gang girls.
They both ride off into the sunset together on a souped up pink motorbike/scooter.
To this day, I have yet to find any other coming of age stories that I have related to as strongly.
(btw this is where the brand Baby The Stars Shine Bright became famous)
Also, this is where I first discovered Anna Tsuchiya and became a quick fan of hers. They day she and Shiina Ringo collaborated was like rocker-turned-actor heaven for me.

HELLOOOOO I ABSOLUTELY ADORE YOUR ART it's sooo beautiful and I stare at your work so much!! do you have any art inspirations? like any artists or specific pieces that just. scratch your brain?? hope you're having a good one ^o^
first of all: thank you so much! don't get lost in it now! and secondly: i have put off answering this ask for so long bc i find that question pretty difficult to answer. i love way, way too much art. but still it's an opportunity to showcase some that i love. under the cut :) im sorry if this off from what you're expecting (crying emoji)
these are a small fraction of art that tickle my brain, only visual, sometimes inspiration just springs from a non-fiction like an essay, or in the repetition of furniture music, a strange movie with a story but with no discernible plot (the best kind of movie), when you cook a meal etc etc ....they exist where you least expect it........
i mainly do two art styles that, despite me whining abt inconsistency, are deliberate bc they give different moods, and i dont really care if my art doesnt look the same, esp since im not really interested in the industry where style consistency is part of branding yada yada. it’s more fun this way. i'll start with the inks.
one of my favourite mangaka ever is nishioka kyoudai. they're a brother-sister duo that writes these surreal poem-like stories without a plot. once you see it, it's a Very obvious inspiration. when i first got into hypmic, one of the comments i even made then was gentaro feels like a character from their work which lead to no longer human comic later for inktober www thats why i draw him a lot in the style inspired from their art...
below is the front and back cover of their most popular manga: kami no kodomo (just a warning if anyone checks this out: it's violent and disgusting. dont be like me who read them @ age 12, i was an edgy problem child)
Tumblr media
another one of my favourites is taiyo matsumoto. art below is from their manga titled tekkon kinkreet, which has a movie ! and one of their manga got an anime adaptation as well....please watch ping pong the animation it's really good (shameless promo)
Tumblr media
theres more, but these two mangaka really got me loving inks and not caring abt my art looking all social media pretty. weird is great!!! i embrace manga that looks unconventional
now for paintings, it's a different world ww most of them are contemporary. i like paintings that depict smth mundane or private. i love tenderness.......i like it when bodies feel like they merge into one, and where the figures' edges become imperceptible unless you look closely. intimism is where it’s at babey!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(artists in order from left to right: egon schiele; toulouse-lautrec; ron hicks; doron langberg)
but non-representational art is really cool too...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(lindy chambers, julia soboleva, melissa santamaria, mark rothko)
im inspired by whatever this page called "1995 was an ok year" on facebook does. smth i want to get across w my art (although im aware i dont post my personal art here, maybe it happens w my fanart too who knows), when i really really try, is to recall memory that maybe didnt even happen, but the mood is there and it's felt. im terrible at storytelling but im obsessed with atmosphere, i hope it works lol
have a good day too anon !! sorry for the long reply

Note
Hello im returning to also submit stalker/obsession and also apologize for accidentally unfollowing when i tried to press 'ask' asdjf
I wasn't paying attention you could have gotten away with it I would not have noticed if you hadn't said anything. Ya told on yaself.
Also thanks for sticking around you had an easy out and you chose to come back anyway.
Ships that fit the Trope
Top of the list Kendo Rappa/Taishiro Toyomitsu My Hero Academia Rappa is a simp stalker nasty freak and I love him so much I am inviting him into the polycule
Toga/Ochaco also from MHA are just as good, less nasty freak and more cute girls
AFO/Yoichi is my favorite gender of Obsession where it's topped with a horrid brother complex long after said brother is dead
Same vein Belos/Caleb which could also bleed into Belos/Hunter
I don't know if "Stalker" is quiet right but Hugo/Kipo from Age of the Wonderbeasts are very good Obsesses/obsession
Spamton/Kris is good long distance stalking/obsession I love that for them. More nasty freak content from Spamton G. Spamton
Reid and Leigh from MiddleGame aren't so much Stalker/Obsession so much Obsessed/Controlled indifference.
Nagito/Hajime is always funny to me as Stalker/Obsession, 100% because Nagito is just so pathetic kitten of a character. Rappa amount of nasty freak but a bottom.
The Scrybe polycule from Inscryption is this but divorced. Except P03, it's normal and that's why it left the polycule
Flug/Black Hat/Demencia from Villanous are also a good toxic obsession polycule and Dem is actually a stalker so here's at least one that fits the bill
I wrote a fic on this but Viktor Humphries has a complete simulation of Bea's land in Slime Rancher and I just think that's some stalker shit right there and should be addressed.
General Opinion
I think I've done a great job of showing my whole ass when it comes to this trope. My favorite version of it is Nasty Freak and Too Tired to Deal With This Shit. I think it's hysterical, and problematic shipping is at least 80% comedy factor for me. It can be fucked but it also has to be funny.
I do really love Obsesser/Obsession, I love to write for it in soft ways for X Readers, because I love Obsession as the extreme of love in general. I have a lot of trouble with genuine Stalking tho, I guess I just want them to be together so stalking feel unnecessary?? I dunno.
Any ships that aren’t canon it But I’d read w/ the trope
I once again don't have any but here's a list of characters I think would be fun instead if they had another half to ship them with (or to read X Readers of 👀)
Luca Blight - Suikoden 2
Taiyo Mitsuboshi - Happy Sugar Life
Shirou Ogami - BNA
The Core - Amphibia
Kyubey - Madoka Magica
Gaster - UTDR
Spade King - Deltarune
Shirokuma - Danganronpa (again. don't judge me)
Kazuichi Souda - Danganronpa
Maximilien - Overwatch
Liontari - Children of the Whales
CQ Cumber - Splatoon 2 (what if you were stalked by a jellybean)

Blessed With Nine of a Kind: My Kids & Me
by SaraT
Well—here I go again…~_~
However, this time I'm going to try to try & not make it explicit. I want to try making this teen rated w/ mature language for people who either can't or don't like reading explicit material.
Trunks is a single father raising 7 boys & 1 girl by himself. He decided it was going to be just him & his kids. However, fate has a funny way of just showing up & throwing a wrench in someone's plans.
Said fate comes in the form of a girl he dated in the past; she tells him she had been pregnant & he is the father. She never told him because she was scared because she knew he already had 8 kids already, so she just left town. They talk & she tells him she had a girl & that she can't take it anymore. If he wants, she is 100% willing to give him full custody & never look back.

night hawks iii
words: 2.1k
pairing: Hayakawa Aki x reader, Denji & reader
Also on: ao3
a/n: very, very, light spoilers for the bomb girl arc, if you haven't read it you probably wouldn’t even notice so it’s fine lol. anyways, I originally didn’t plan to do this for this chapter, (it was actually supposed to be just pure angst) but I thought this would be nice before I stomped on ur heart! next update might be  for a while since school is coming to a close soon!
part ii | part iv
Somewhere, in the back of your mind, you wonder if there is something in the town that the country can’t offer.
You don’t want to think too hard on that, either.
Tumblr media
ii. blue shift
You’re perusing through the snack aisle, debating which awfully sugary and salty potato chip you’d force Aki to buy this time, when Denji ambles towards you.
“Town mouse or country mouse.”
You grab a boldly colored bag of chips--‘taste better with each bite!’ in a fluorescent lemon --and shake it twice. Too light for your liking, you grabbed two more. “What are you talking about?”
“D’you think the town mouse or country mouse is better?” Denji questions, studying your movements before shuffling the items in his palms into the basket hanging off your elbow. He looks at the row of chips, grabs two random bags, and shoves them in as well.
Brows scrunched in confusion, you halt in your movements. “Mmm..is that a new fad from some teen magazine? I never heard of that before.”
“Nah, it’s this guy named Asshop? Acehop? I dunno.” The syllables slur together when he says it, rushed, and you can hardly decipher the words. “But there’s these mice, one’s from the country, the other the town.”
“The country mouse is safe and all, but it has zero fun or good grub. The town mouse gets all the fun and grub, but it's always getting into trouble.”
“And you have to pick between the two?” You confirm. Denji nods, hands shoved in his pockets.
You tilt your head, “Lemme guess, you picked the town mouse?”
He grins. “Who wouldn’t want good food?”
Chuckling, You fight the urge to ruffle his blonde strands. From what Aki’s told you, Denji’s virtually been close to homeless for the past sixteen years of his life. No family but a dog he refers to from time to time.
Sometimes, when you’d come over for dinner, you’d see the way he eats; scarfing down every grain of rice and almost licking the plate clean, a man eating his last meal, that your whole body would ache, starting from your chest and spreading all over.
Everyone should have that at his age, right? Loving parents, no worries if you’ll have warm food on the table or a roof over your head ( but did you even have that? If you didn’t would you even know? How could you feel pity for the youth if you don’t know what youth looks like? )
You try not to think about it too often.
The options milled about in your head, like marbles in the palm of your hand.
“Being safe sounds great and all, but I’ve never been to the countryside before, so..” Denji nabs another bag and shows you for approval. Wasabi and Beef. You give a disgruntled face and he tosses it back with a huff.
“So the town mouse then?”
“I’d say yes, but that’d be a little biased. I’ve never been outside Tokyo.”
A groan sounds from behind you and, across the aisle, is Aki juggling ten different types of meat in his arms, his face matching the red of the marbled pork. Power is right behind him, shoving an unnecessarily large slab of wagyu beef into the cart with maniacal laughter.
( I’m saying this for the last. damn. time.-)
You should probably intervene before he grows homicidal.
“Why are you interested in this anyway?” You ask. Denji huffs, fidgeting with a red bag of shrimp chips (now with garlic and butter!) and haphazardly tosses it into the basket.
“There’s this girl,” He starts.
“Oooh, a girl..”You drawl.
He sputters.“I don’t like her or anything!”
Grinning, you bite your lip to hold back a laugh, “Never said you did.” You think he looks a little irritated, with his cheeks flushed a deep rose and a scowl framing his face, but the same mischievous smile stays on his lips.
“Anyways, she was the one who told me about it, I was wonderin’ what you would’ve said. We’re supposed to go to a festival tomorrow night.” He states lightly.
“Ah, if they have it, you should eat some takoyaki while you’re there. That always tastes the best from a festival stall.” You beam. “Be sure to have fun! Oh--and tell me about it once you get back.” For any devil hunter, it’s difficult to hold connections to those outside the business. You wonder how it must feel for Denji, sixteen and not knowing a single person his age who’s, well,
Normal.
The only times he goes out is for work or rare days like these when Aki (foolishly) thinks they’ll behave at the supermarket. Does Denji even know what’s normal for someone like him? Do you?
He gives you a thumbs up.
( in the corner of your eyes, you spot Power with at least fifty different types of cat food in her arms, marching to an oblivious Aki with a tyrannical smile on her lips.
it’s probably time to leave anyways..)
You sift through the basket hanging on your arm, double checking the junk food will last until the next time you decide to mooch off Aki’s credit card. A variety of bagged chips with different mascots thrown across the bags, pints of icecream and mochi, and at the very bottom, a magazine with...two naked women on the front. You snatch the offending book with a gasp, thrusting it into the blonde’s face.
“No way, you know for a fact he’s not gonna buy this. And if you hand him this at the counter, Aki will punch the crap out of you.”
Denji grabs both the basket and the magazine, rolling the book before slotting it under his arm. “ Not if you but it.”
“I’m not buying that.”
“Then I’ll just sneak it in.” He waves off. At the sound of shouting, you both run to deescalate whatever nonsense Power got herself into this time. The magazine and Aesop forgotten.
( Aki does notice the porno mag and he does hit Denji over the head with it...but he buys it anyway.)
-
“Town mouse or country mouse?”
He scowls at you through the mirror, muttering. “God, not you too.”
You swing your legs from where you reside on the kitchen counter, tapping your nails against the marble, anything to ease the nervous energy that makes your hand shake. Nyanko is slinking through your legs like a maze, begging for your pets every so often. You bring the cat into your arms, scratching the spot right behind her ears and she purrs, bingo. You raise a brow. “Did Denji already ask you?”
He doesn’t answer for a few moments, busy as he loops his tie and knots it. Aki takes a moment to scrutinize its placement, then turns to face you. “Angel Devil.” He states, he says the name like it’s poison on his tongue.
“Oh yeah, how’s that working out for you?”
“He’s a hindrance.”
You stroll over to him until you’re both chest to chest and he stills. This close, you can feel his exhales drift the hairs at the top of your head and discern the specks of jade that’s always consumed by his seas of deep blue. He notices your stare, and swallows.
You take the tie into your hands and tilt it a little to the left. “You think everyone is a hindrance when you meet them. I’m pretty sure you loathed me at first, but now look! I get to babysit your cat!” Nyanko meows on cue and you turn back to him with a wide grin.
Aki stares for a moment, taking in the both of you before groaning into his palms and striding into his room.
“That’s not my cat.” He calls out.
“You still haven’t answered my question!”
He groans again.
“Why do you need to leave so suddenly anyways, it’s Friday night, we should be done for the week.”
“Nomo called for me!” He shouts. The name doesn’t ring a bell.
“Great, now answer my question.”
He trails back into the hallway, coat in hand. Nyanko follows his footsteps, meowing after him.
Not his cat, huh?
“What’d you say?”
You roll your eyes, exasperated, “I said: answer my question!”
“No-- to Denji.”
Oh. You shrug, “I didn’t give him an answer. I’ve only seen the city, so I don’t think I could’ve given an accurate reply.” You say nonchalantly.
“It’s not really about where you’ve been--it mostly deals with preference.” Aki hums and shrugs on his coat.
“Yeah, but,” You finger at the stray hem of your sweatshirt, skittish, “well, I don’t know much from before I was like, what? Fifteen, sixteen? Even then things are kind of fuzzy..”
The hand he had on the doorknob stills, and Aki gapes at you, silent. You don’t know if you should continue your thought, unsure if this is information you want to give away to him, but his silence eggs you on. “ But I wouldn’t really know what I would prefer, since I don’t know alot about..me. Maybe I hated the city, but I’m still here--Or I hated the countryside which is why I live in Tokyo, but I’ll never truly know the original intent..I’m just here. Who’s to say the things I do now are things I would’ve done before I forgot everything”
The words come out muddled and jumbled together, and with the way he’s staring, you wish you could shove them all back into your mouth, never to come out again. You know that he knows that you worry about this from time to time, but the thought of being this vulnerable to anyone, even the person you know better than yourself, shakes you differently than any devil ever has. You wonder if you’re acting selfishly, to bare this out to him, because it always looks like it hurts Aki more than it hurts you.
You don’t like to think too hard on that either.
“That’s why I wanted to ask you,” you rush out. “I thought you’d have a better idea..”
Aki abandons the door altogether, standing before you in the kitchen. His eyes are glassy but the rest of his face is set in stone, unsure. “Does that even matter?”
You frown.“What?”
“I mean, if you enjoy yourself here, isn’t that good enough? Does it really matter what you thought , or who you were, five, ten, years ago? I like who you are now, I’m not that worried about who you might have been before.” He says, voice just above a whisper.
You blink, mind blank. You can feel the blood rush in your ears, roaring, as he searches your face.
I like who you are now
You think you should say something back, something just as momentous to ease the furrow in his brow, the same heat to your neck, but all that comes out is a measly, “Oh.”
Aki looks into you with the same eyes he had back at the diner and all at once you’re unsure of where he’s going with this. What you should do. What lines to cross. Your fingers flinch at your side. In the corner of your vision, his fingers do the same.
But then he blinks and it’s gone. You don’t know if you should sigh out of relief or disappointment.
You pointedly decide to hold your breath.
“And for the record,” He starts, hand on the door, “I chose the town mouse.”
The door clicks just as silently as it was opened.
Nyanko meows out to you, pawing just below the cabinet that holds her dinner and you breathe out a sigh.
“What would you prefer to eat, town mouse or country mouse?”
She hisses.
You should probably feed her before Power accuses you of animal abuse.
-
Later into the night, with the cat now fed and sleeping, you’re perusing the bookshelf when a small children’s book stands out to you.
The rest on the shelf are novels of varying lengths, so it sticks out like a sore thumb and, out of curiosity, you grab it.
The binding that holds it together is frayed and aged, the fabric of the book singed and faded. The cover is almost completely black, with the exception of a smiling rat on the corner. It’s a miracle it’s even in one piece.
You flip through it, an array of colors flickering on each page until it lands on the last one. It’s covered in blue crayon in a child’s chicken scratch, but at the very top of the page it reads:
‘Which mouse has it better?’
Town: Me, Dad
Country: Mom, Aki
‘And for the record, I chose the town mouse.’
Somewhere, in the back of your mind, you wonder if there is something in the town that the country can’t offer.
You don’t want to think too hard on that, either.

Tumblr media
impt. alpha!bokuto x gn!omega!reader
sum. watching bokuto work so well with children makes you think about some things
wc. 985
w. thoughts about babies (?) — just babies in general lol — pls tell me if there’s something else i should put a warning for because i’m not sure on this one :(
n. this is technically apart of a small series-like work of mine that is alpha!bokuto x omega!male!reader BUT can totally be read as stand alone as the drabbles that follow after are gender-neutral (meaning no pronouns are mentioned). i have been gone for a while and uuh this is what ya get for now, i’msosorryyy-
you can find the other parts below
out in the garden ► main work
in the morning light ► drabble
Tumblr media
The Nursery was something that always called to you. And sure, Omega’s were normally inclined to feel parental—especially over young children—but you never liked to see it as simply instinct.
You liked to think you went there for the atmosphere, the idea of spending time with kids who needed those parental figures, and babies who needed skin on skin.
You would tell no one that you thought the babies were adorable. You’d seen some of them grow up, how could you not?
Though to be fair, growing up meant they were about four or five now, though they’d grown nonetheless.
This wasn’t the first time you went to the Nursery with Bokuto. Far from it actually, since you’d dragged him there so many times he’d come to like it as well. No matter what was going on, there would be an open spot on one day of the week to visit the Nursery.
That day happened to be today.
“Are you ready Bo?” You asked, practically bouncing with the excitement to get going.
“I’m always ready for you,” he said, walking to your side and placing a kiss to your temple.
Normally you’d be accompanied by other people, either guards or something of the like, but now that you and Bokuto had mated. He really didn’t want anyone there but him. Being freshly mated made that feeling much worse. Though again the word ‘freshly’ was used lightly; it’d been almost a month since you’d mated.
Bokuto still spent every second he could with you and shared every chaste kiss as well.
The love he felt for you was all-consuming, like a raging fire you had no chance of putting out. It was a lovely thing to receive, and a lovely thing for Bokuto to give.
“Good,” you told him cheerfully, a smile on your face. You grabbed his hand and began walking.
The Nursery wasn’t very far from the castle you spent much of your time in, it was barely outside of it’s walls in a neighboring town.
Florere was a sweet little town, a close enough walking distance that you used to visit it as a child and continued visiting.
And with the Nursery being so close it made the walk there short and pleasant enough to enjoy, as the way there was filled with beautiful flora (and fauna). But because of this, you also found yourself arriving too quickly to thoroughly enjoy those aspects of the path.
You greeted a Nurse at the entrance, it was large and consisted of multiple buildings, a courtyard in the center where the pups could play around in.
You were always made to wash up before going to the section specifically where the newborns and slightly older babies were kept.
Bokuto followed along, cheeks rosy for a reason unknown to you. You found you could never get enough of seeing him blush so beautifully. You gave him a small kiss to the cheek before a Nurse who knew you well handed over an impossibly small bundle, introducing him as Taiyo.
He cuddled up to your chest, yawning as his eyes fluttered slightly open. They were a light brown you knew would shine golden in the sun. He closed them soon enough and you only had the ability to smile down at the little boy in your arms. He had fallen asleep quickly in your arms.
When looking up you caught Bokuto staring at you, affection the only emotion etched on his face.
You whispered now, “Do you want to hold him?”
You asked this every time you came to the Nursery, though normally he would do this while the baby was awake and alert.
“But, he’s sleeping,” he responded, struck out of his stupor and looking at you pleadingly. Bokuto didn’t want to wake the baby up, he would definitely feel guilty if it were to happen.
You had to hold in a chuckle at the look on his face. “As long as you're gentle, he should stay sleeping, Bo. It’ll be fine, I promise you. When have I ever broken a promise?” You told him gently, walking closer to be by his side.
“Never,” he said, still looking at the baby anxiously. He was just so small, and asleep, Bokuto didn’t want to disrupt anything.
“C’mon, it will take one second and then he’ll be all comfy with you instead,” you smiled at him.
Bokuto grumbled extremely quietly before sticking his arms out and motioning for you to swap over. Your smile grew and you did so gently, guiding him to a small rocking chair kept in the corner of the room. He sat, obeying your small pushes in its direction and put his attention on the baby in his arms.
Taiyo squirmed at how this new bed felt for him, but he quickly adjusted to the feel of Bokuto’s chest instead of yours and settled again. He was so small, and his features were all scrunched in sleep he almost looked grumpy. Bokuto couldn’t help the big smile that overtook his features.
Normally this would seem strange, to be so happy at holding someone else’s pup, a child that should’ve had parents to look after them, but Bokuto could only think of how precious he was.
It was even stranger for you to look at him and think that you wanted it. You wanted to build a family with him, and though you’d talked about it before, you hadn’t brought up the topic of having children in a while.
But now, with the sight right in front of you, the idea of having children with your Alpha certainly sounded pleasing.
And perhaps that day would come soon. But for now, seeing Bokuto, your mate, your universe — you knew everything would work out the way it was supposed to.
It was impossible for otherwise to happen, after all.
Anything done with Bokuto by your side felt right.

fallen embers names pt 4(?)
im doing this bc i simultaneously do and Dont wanna write rn. n e ways hoshi’s family!!
Atid (oldest sibling, one of the 2 twins):  thai; masc.; sun
Botan (second youngest of the kids):  japanese; masc.; peony
Fudo (youngest child):  japanese; masc.; God of fire and wisdom
i chose this b/c yknow, fire. but it’s a happy coincidence that the meaning also includes wisdom b/c guess what i included in an absolute genius move?  “He’d spend more time reading about bending forms than actually executing them.” god im so sexy
Hoshi (you know them!! :D):  japanese; unisex; star
Isra (younger sister):  thai; fem.; freedom
Nikko (dad):  japanese; masc.; sunshine / daylight
Palila (mom):  hawaiian; fem.; bird
i tend to stick to thai & japanese names, along with some korean ones, for fire nation characters (w/ the exception of Gan b/c his character backstory changed substantially, so his chinese name matched his original colonial background). this is the exception though! Palila was very musical and associated w/ songbirds (hoshi’s hairbrush has her name on it w/ carvings of birds, when she sang all the lark-warblers stopped to listen (which, yes, i stole from the hunger games)), so i wanted to choose a name that reflects that. it seems fitting for other canon names. plus! in the comics, Ursa’s hometown of Hira’a is very much inspired by hawaii so! it makes sense!!
Shizu (older sister):  japanese; fem.; quiet
it’s ironic b/c she “lets everyone know her opinions on matters”... haha im hilarious
Taiyo (second twin): japanese; masc.; sun
wow look at me giving both of the twins names that mean Sun... im so original

* designates a reread of a particular book.
I re-read The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife (and didn’t quite have time to make it through The Amber Spyglass) in preparation for The Book of Dust, and I will tell you that Phillip Pullman is absolutely as good now that I’m chasing thirty as he was when I was ten and encountered him the first time.
Clive Cussler, on the other hand….  Well, let’s just say that one of the gorgeous female side characters whips off her bra to use as a bandage.  Okay, y’all, I trained as a Wilderness First Responder, and I’d like to think that I have a better than average idea of what to use for alternative bandaging, and it’s not a bra.
I also picked up おらおら (Ora ora de hitori igu mo; I Be Goin’ Alone by Chisako Wakatake) from a local bookstore.  It won the Akutagawa Prize for new literature in 2017, and is about an older woman from Tōhoku, now living in Tokyo, reflecting on her life.  It’s my current study book, because I am rusty as all get out, but so far it’s pretty nifty.  The parts written in dialect are hard as hell, though.

I’ve been pretty busy recently—in addition to the heat wave, I’ve been moving house and am in the process of changing jobs.  That plus the unexpected monster that is A Ghost in the Walls, has made me a busy, busy lady.  Still, I’ve been reunited with my beloved library, which means that my priorities have shifted briefly to visit with my old favorites before I’m forced to leave them behind again.
Besides, Tamora Pierce has come out with a new book, and I am absolutely obligated to reread all of her books in celebration, given that she is one of my foundational authors.
Never fear—I am making steady progress on A Ghost in the Walls, and I anticipate finishing it out in about three more chapters.

I also partake of the news (reliable sources only!), online publications, articles, excerpts, and essays.  I have been known to lurk extensively about on AO3.  (And earlier and more terrible incarnations.  Somehow I have become an fandom old??  I have legitimately no idea how this happened.)  I read journals and books relevant to work that have not made this list on account of being: a. dense and b. only interesting to the kind of people who want to put an EEG on someone rock climbing.
If anyone in the ether wishes to shout at me about any of these, please do.  Shouting about books is my second favorite pastime.  (My favorite is reading them.)

What Have We Been Reading?
I think it’s time for another collection of all the books I’ve been reading this year.  For conciseness, I am only counting formally published books.  Not counted are magazines, scientific articles, academic journals, or fanworks.  Otherwise, we’d be well in the hundreds, and I’d have to admit to having a horrible book habit.

* designates a reread of a particular book.
A River in Darkness was definitely not my usual fare, but it was a really good read.  I studied a lot of Soviet history in college, and have an academic interest in reading literature written in countries under an autocratic regime.  The account was fascinating, particularly how propaganda, repeated enough, can burrow under your skin and penetrate your brain.  The other fascinating thing is the long term trauma of living under an autocratic regime and how individuals who have escaped from North Korea may struggle with integrating into a more open society.
I’m currently working through Too Like the Lightning, which got interrupted by NaNoWriMo.  What an interesting approach!  To use the language and diction of the past to build an image of the future.  Definitely a tricky book to step into, but once one finds the right headspace, it’s the kind of book that I quite enjoy.
Moving and anew job have kept me relentlessly busy, so I haven’t done real well on by book list in the last couple of months.  But I got some more book money for my birthday, so I’ve got some work to do, since I need to pick up the latest copies of Martha Wells’ Murderbot novellas and catch up on Lost Light.  And honestly?  It’s always time for a Dune re-read, and there’s the Vorkosigan Saga, which deserves my attention at least once every two years.  I’ve got plans for my lunch break for sure!
Regarding blog hosting, likely what I will end up doing is posting each week’s writing on Tumblr, and then the next week, editing the post to move the piece to archive, and leaving a link in the post.  Tedious and more work for me, but who wants to click through a link to read a piece of poetry or short fiction?  No one.  That is who.
All work will remain online, but is going to slowly relocate as I get myself in gear.
