Dazai to Odasaku about Akutagawa: "If I'd left him to his own devices, he would've ended up a slave to his own powers until he destroyed himself."
Hey hi what does that mean???
I'm probably way overthinking it but it just reminded me of when I first started my watch of the anime and we get to the opening scene with Akutagawa and Rashoumon (I can't find the exact scene but here's something similar from DA)
Tumblr media
He implies he's not attacking with her so much as he's reining her in from devouring everything - and originally I thought, hey, that's a cool premise. It seems like there's something odd about this guy's ability; he's talking about it like it's almost sentient.
But then it didn't really get brought up again so I kind of forgot about it.
And sure maybe all the above line means is that his ability is naturally attuned to violence and he could grow more bloodthirsty, etc - but if that's the case, why bring him into the mafia?
So I started thinking about Dead Apple (which I really need to rewatch...) and how there was this focus on Atsushi as the "antithesis" of special abilities. And I just kind of thought about that because... wouldn't that title go to Dazai...?
But then it's stated that Atsushi's claws can cut through any ability... including Rashoumon (he also has some connection to the Book which absolutely must be related somehow but I'm skipping over that for the purposes of this post). Dazai describes Akutagawa as "a sword without a sheath". Is Atsushi part of the sheath? It would make a degree of sense: after all, we get a sharp reminder in the movie of how imperative it is that Dazai nullifies Chuuya's ability - it is literally needed to keep Corruption in check.
But why such a focus on self-destruction and sheathing... unless there really is something dangerous that needs to be reined in? That needs to be controlled.
I think about the dragon in Dead Apple called the "chaos of all special abilities".
I think about how the tiger and dragon are another representation of yin and yang. I think about how Atsushi and Akutagawa so clearly have that yin-yang dynamic. I think about how Rashoumon very well has the appearance of a hungry snake - or a dragon.
I think about how the focal point of an entire altered timeline was the prevention of Akutagawa from joining the mafia and the taking of his sister. And then I wonder why Akutagawa always seems to factor into Dazai's plans.
I think there's something special about Akutagawa's ability.
I think that something special, whatever it is, is very dangerous - more than we know.

BSD abilities and how they connect to character trauma
This was inspired by this post: here from @noose-lion which you should defiantly read! TL:DR Op thinks abilities originate from trauma and gave some great examples and evidence.
I wanted to catalogue all the abilities we know that have clear connection to character trauma.
Atsushi: He was tortured from a incredibly young age, constantly abused by the orphanage director, Shibusawa and even his own parents. Of cousre a scared helpless child, who spent his life being hurt by people much strong then him would wish he could be a big strong tiger, who could never be hurt again (hence the bullet proof fur and regeneration).
Kunikida: An Idealist who wished to bring his visions of the world into reality gained the power to bring his writings to life by literally manifesting his Ideals from his book.
Akutagwa: A child who grew up in the chaos of the slums, constantly being hurt or attacked gained the power to defend himself and his friends with his only possession the clothes on his back. He gained a sword to kill anyone who he wanted and a shield to defend himself from any physical threat.
Fukuzawa: After seeing the pain an uncontrollable gift could cause to someone (I know Ranpo wasn't really gifted but the principle is the same). he gained the power to help other people control their own gifts and let them reach their full potential.
Kenji: A little boy who after having his best friend stolen from him by mother nature, gained the unimaginable power of a natural disaster himself, and used it to save his village.
Gogol: A man who so desperately craved true freedom, gained the ability to go anywhere he wished.
Tachihara: A boy who only wished to live up to his brothers legacy gained the same powers as him.
Fitzgerald: Someone who craves power and strength more then anything, was able to turn his biggest asset (his money) into physical strength.
Q: a child who must have been abused a lot and instead of just wishing to defend themselves they wanted to hurt people back as bad as possible, and make them feel out of control
I'm sure their are some I missed but to me these are the characters where its clear what lead to them getting their abilities.
There are also a few characters whose abilities don't fit the mold/aren't their own:
Chuuya: whose original power is still unclear
Verlain: who was a skill lifeform
Kyoka: who was given her power by her mother
Sigma: who was created by the book
All in all I think that the idea of abilities being born from trauma and desire but rarely actually fixing the underlying problem and often making things worse is an incredibly cool idea and fits the message of bsd perfectly.
Power does not solve your problem, the support of others is where true value lies.

You don't know what I'd do (for you) Part 4 (Epilogue)
Link to full fic
Link to Part 1 of the series: Me and the Devil (Walking side by side)
Hey! You two be careful out there!" Yelled Kunikida, somehow his voice reached Atsushi and Kyouka who were by the water.
"We will!" Yelled Atsushi, it was only due to the tiger that he heard Kunikida.
"Relax Kunikida, they're big kids." Said Dazai, walking over to him and making Kunikida scoff. "You say that like you haven't been watching them as well." Grumbled his partner.
Dazai simply smiled.
"I didn't deny that, just that they'll be alright. Atsushi's a strong swimmer and besides, Kyouka won't let anything happen to him."
Even from this distance, Dazai could see Kyouka's critical eye on Atsushi as they played. She shrieked as Atsushi splashed water at her, and she returned the favour.
Atsushi's laughter filled the air and it was a truly welcoming sound. Kunikida visibly softened hearing it. A weight on his shoulders lifting and Dazai felt the same.
The day out to the beach had been a unanimous decision.
As much as everyone wanted to keep Atsushi inside and observed under a microscope, they all knew that was a bad idea.
Atsushi was scarred, and not in a way Yosano could heal. He needed this, to run and play like the kid he was never able to be.
Under the watchful but not suffocating eye of his friends.
If Kunikida wasn't being such a mother hen, Dazai might've reminded him that this had been Kunikida's idea.
Ah well, there was plenty of time for that.
"Kenji! Help me!" Called Kyouka, clearly losing against Atsushi. Kenji looked up from where he was making a sand castle with Junichiro and grinned.
"Coming!" Junichiro watched him go and got up as well. "I've got you Atsushi!" He yelled, running to his aid.
Atsushi smiled appreciatively before he was immediately put on defence by the sheer might of Kyouka and Kenji.
Dazai chuckled at the sight. He and Kunikida went to where the "adults" were hanging out. Yosano was reading a magazine. Ranpo was eating some sweets and Fukuzawa was reading a book.
"Ah the civilised people, we've come to join you" declared Dazai, flopping onto an empty deck chair.
Yosano snorted "just you wait till I finish this. I'm gonna crush them all."
Ranpo snorted "Oh you think I won't?" Asked Yosano, a sinister smile on her face that scared everyone. Except Ranpo of course, he just smirked back. "I don't know, if I join you might be outmatched."
Yosano's eyes shined with glee "is that so? Would you care to put your money where your mouth is?"
Fukuzawa shook his head with a fond smile. While Kunikida seriously debated if these were indeed the "civilised people."
"He looks happy" said Fukuzawa, getting all of their attention. Even when he wasn't in President mode, the man was hard to ignore.
"Kyouka said he had a nightmare last night." Said Kunikida, his voice quiet even though none of the teens could hear him. Nor were they paying them any attention.
"I thought about cancelling this, but I'm glad I didn't."
Yosano nodded in agreement, putting down her magazine. "It's going to be an uphill journey, healing as much as I wish it was, is not linear."
Aint that the truth.
Atsushi bless his heart had come so far. The fact he'd even come out to the beach, said it all. In the beginning Atsushi was terrified to go out. But even more so to stay inside.
The sound of a lock clicking sent him into a panic attack. Kyouka had called them in the dead of night multiple times.
Where they'd find Atsushi had woken up screaming and sobbing. The worst were the times when Atsushi would run off.
It reminded everyone just how close they came to losing him before.
To everyone's suprise whenever Atsushi ran off, Akutugawa of all people would burst into the Agency.
Sometimes literally. Rip Bernard, the poor office door gone before it's time.
Akutagawa would shove Atsushi onto the sofa and nod at everyone. Sometimes he'd leave, but sometimes Atsushi would grab onto his coat.
And Akutugawa would roll his eyes and sit back down. They'd end up talking about a mission, quickly going back to their usual banter.
But there was no bite to it. And it escaped no one that Rashomon was always hovering nearby incase of attack.
Than there was Chuuya.
Though Dazai wasn't suprised at him showing up. The Slug had always had a big mushy bleeding heart, as much as he denied it.
It was still funny to see Kunikida's shocked face that morning seeing Port Mafia Executive Chuuya Nakahara in the Agency building.
Sitting on a chair in the infirmary by Atsushi's bed and telling him a very embarrassing story about teenage Dazai.
Because of course he was.
Dazai could only huff theatrically because Atsushi was giggling. And his ego could be stabbed multiple times, if it meant Atsushi could look so happy again.
What did pour salt in the wound though was Kunikida silently pulling his own chair out. And gesturing for Chuuya to continue.
Truly the worst act of betrayal
They'd even gone for drinks as they'd planned before all of this. Dazai had nothing to receive such cruelty.
"By the way, what's the story with Dostoyevsky?" Asked Fukuzawa, his voice dropped to a whisper at his name. He didn't want to mention the bastard even if Atsushi couldn't hear him.
Ah, speaking of cruelty.
Once Atsushi had been rescued, the bastard had fled. But with the entire Agency minus Atsushi and several members of the Port Mafia, it was child's play to locate him.
Dazai hadn't even cared to play their game. He just ran over and decked Fyodor in the face. Sending him flying into a wall with a look of suprise.
"That's for Atsushi, but you and I both know you deserve so much worse."
Fyodor had dared to smirk and Dazai had to stop himself from punching him again. "Oh? And where were you when he handed himself over to me?"
He got up.
"You should've heard him, crying and screaming in agony it was like music to my ea-"
It wasn't Dazai who hit him. Kenji's eyes blazed brightly, no one had seen him move. All they saw was Fyodor hit the ceiling so hard he definitely broke something.
"Take his name out of your mouth."
Kenji who had been guarding the infirmary, who had wept when Atsushi was safe. Stood over Fyodor, seething like an avenging angel.
"You don't get to talk about him like you know him" Said Kyouka, her blade sharp in her hands.
"You played on our fears and he tried to stop you. And he won, because Atsushi's safe and you're here alone and pathetic."
Fyodor sneered and Junichiro stood infront of Kyouka and Kenji. "That's as far as you go" he glared, his bloodlust was practically tangible. "And what? You're going to kill me?"
Junichiro shook his head.
"Deaths too good for you, you're going to suffer for what you did. You want to be the king of this world? You'll rot in a cage beneath the earth and lay forgotten and pathetic."
Among the blazing rage, Dazai felt pride. And he knew he wasn't the only one.
Kunikida stepped forward, beside Junichiro. "You have no power here, you have no one and nothing. You're done, Fyodor Dostoyevsky."
Nikolai, the clown had been apprehended. He'd been Atsushi's torturer, they'd pieced it together from whispered words and sobs.
A man called Sigma hadn't been involved but he'd been informed. He'd told the Agency everything he knew, even volunteering to take Fyodor's memories and share them with Ango.
That way any future schemes would be cut short. Fukuzawa had agreed at the plan.
Dazai nullified his ability and Chuuya used his ability to keep the rat captive. He threw him (literally) into a cold cell.
Now that, was teamwork.
Death was a mercy Dazai wouldn't grant Fyodor.
If it was up to him Fyodor would rot in a cage too small for his feeble body. And he would suffer every wound and the pain he put Atsushi through.
But no amount of suffering would give Atsushi back what he'd lost.
And Dazai refused to become a monster and lose what he'd gained. The thought only cemented in his mind when he saw Kenji stood by the door.
"I want to kill him..." He whispered, voice shaking with anger, fear, greif and sadness.
They were all just kids, weren't they?
Dazai instantly pulled him into a hug. Letting him sob and hold him close. "I know Kenji, I know."
That damn Demon had taken enough from his family, Dazai refused to let him take any more.
"He's being interrogated currently, the Port Mafia are having their turn." Said Dazai, answering Fukuzawa's question.
Oh they had his memories now, Chuuya and Akutugawa were just taking shots at him.
Fukuzawa nodded.
That's when Atsushi ran over with a grin. "Well well look at what the cat dragged in" teased Ranpo. He threw a towel that Atsushi caught and bundled himself up in.
Looking all for the world like a drenched kitten.
"Welcome to the civilised people corner, Atsushi." Said Dazai making him snort. "No offence Dazai but if it involves you it's not a very civilised corner."
Dazai gasped in mock offense and Kunikida snorted. "So true Atsushi, did you want a snack?" Atsushi nodded, but averted his eyes.
"I... I just wanted to be close by." He said, in almost a whisper but they all caught it.
Dazai softened, scooting over and while the space was small, Atsushi slotted down beside him instantly.
He sent a reassuring look to Kyouka who nodded and went back to playing.
Ranpo took that as a cue to regale them all with a story of a case. One that was rather light and funny. Yosano chimed in, considering she'd been there.
Atsushi listened as he munched on a snack Kunikida passed over to him. Once he was sufficiently dry, he was bundled up in a blanket.
Dazai put a protective arm over him and Atsushi let out a relieved sigh.
And maybe just maybe things would be alright once again. They'd never go back to the way they were, and Atsushi had plenty to heal from.
But he wasn't alone.
Something told Atsushi he'd never be again. He'd broken his deal with a Demon. Atsushi had shown how far he'd go for those he loved. And in turn they showed just how far they would.
For him.
He'd missed this, and for the first time Atsushi was truly glad he'd survived.

ohh if you do a character design analysis, i'd love to read one on atsushi and the removal of his beloved (to me) black stripe. could just be laziness but it's always been very strange to me
oooooo yeah i think the removal is out of "it would be a pain to add this to every frame he's in" D: same as the chain on chuuya's hat 😔
but as a general design analysis! atsushi actually has a lot going on!
lore wise, we know from some manga omake that 1 his hair looks like this bc he got a haircut from the kids in the orphanage 2 his clothes are a collection of stuff from the ada, each member got him a different piece
first off that's adorable. he's so cute. second i think it goes to show how affected he is by those around him - everything you can see on him besides his actual face was someone else's choice. i don't think it's entirely out of wanting to please others, more like being grateful to those who help him and are there for him, as well as not having enough of an established identity to make these choices on his own
atsushi's whole driving force for a good chunk of the story is to help others, so he can earn the right to live. and i think this is a good reflection of it! he is very dependent on the people in his life to confirm even the most basic of things (that he's allowed to live), and so it makes sense it'll be reflected in his design c: even if it ends up being mismatched or a mess of a haircut, he'll keep it this way, because that's physical proof that someone else gave him this permission, on him all the time
in addition to that, his design is mainly white with some splashes of black. that is ofc to oppose akutagawa's design, with the whole ying yang thing they've got going on
and ofc! to mirror the tiger! that's also why he has the black stripe in his hair, i think. black stripes on white fur hehe. as well as mirroring the smidge of white in akutagawa's hair imo! really hammer in the ying yang thing :P
it's interesting how his eyes are yellow and purple, usually a mix but sometimes with one overtaking the other. i think i read once that they're yellow when atsushi's more... protective and ig "good"? and purple when he's being vindictive or petty, but i could be misremembering/the thing i read might've been inaccurate, so pls take this with a grain of salt 🙏
still, whether or not that's true, i think this mix of colors is very interesting. to get into interpretation (which, tbf, this whole post is just that lol) it might be related to the time of twilight, governed by the agency? a connection between night and day, darkness and light. in a way, atsushi himself embodies that, by being the key to finding the book that every group in the story is looking for, that is the connecting force between everyone in the world due to its reality altering powers, but i like the idea that it's a subtle way of saying atsushi definitely belongs in the agency, and always has.
that's all i have now! i encourage others to offer their own takes, or cover anything i might've missed in the reblogs 🫡

A Theory about Abilities in BSD, and why Fyodor wants to rid the world of Ability users
Originally, I want to delay making this post until I finish reading irl Dostoevsky’s Demons, because I personally find a lot of parallels between BSD’s Fyodor & Nikolai and Pyotr & Stavrogin in Demons, and I truly wish to elaborate on that. However, I just finished the 2014 TV Show Demons and let’s just say I’m moved to the core and nothing except writing about BSD Fyodor could give me peace. I will still be discussing briefly the connection between BSD fyolai & Demons characters in this post, but that discussion wouldn’t be so detailed because I tragically haven’t finished the book yet.
Sorry I’ve rambled a lot. Anyways, here we go.
In addition to the theory that Ability symbolizes trauma response, I want to speculate that Ability also translates one’s negative perception of themself into physical existence. In fact, in irl Atsushi’s work, the Tiger is none but a representation of the self, plagued by vanity and inferiority, that a person has to fight in order to not hurt people around them. Dazai’s ability No Longer Human is portrayed in the 15 manga as a hollow, dark being that only wears his skeleton — that is what dark era Dazai see himself as: non-human, empty, a walking ghost. Sigma believes that he is used as a tool by different ppl, so his Ability was information exchange — a tool for procuring info.
I can list out much more, but basically, I think Ability is an outward manifestation of how BSD characters pessimistically perceive themselves (that’s why Ranpo doesn’t have an ability: he’s confident and in many aspects a child having not yet lost his innocence, protected and loved by Fukuzawa and the ADA). Or rather, the sad, violent, unpredictable self other ppl told them to be. Like Kyouka, who was told that her Ability made her a natural killer. This is why Ability is a pain: it’s the dark side of oneself; it makes Ability users believe that what makes them powerful, useful to other ppl, is this Self that wallows in existential despair, in its own insufficiency, and in the guilt of causing death.
In Dead Apple, our main characters have to fight their own Abilities to achieve growth. In the ADA, Fukuzawa’s Ability keeps all other Abilities under control, creating an ideal environment for ADA members to grow into the better version of themselves. All of these point out Abilities to be trouble rather than strength.
And Fyodor sees that. He sees that for people, Ability represents a past and ongoing pain. No, I’m not trying to justify his cause by presenting him as an all-knowing being. I’m referring to his uncanny ability of seeing into the heart of people’s struggle — his empathy with Sigma, Goncharov, Gogol and even Karma attested to that. And he thinks the only salvation from such darkness is Death.
We already know that Crime and Punishment doesn’t prevent Fyodor from touching ppl, which means he has no reason to hate his own ability to the point of wanting to eradicate it. It is actually just the opposite case. In Dead Apple, Fyodor declared that he himself is the embodiment of both crime and punishment, which are a pair of good friends. He has made peace with the dark version of himself, has accepted his Ability as part of the truth of what he is. Inseparable with his existence. This is why he wants to kill ability users, rather than simply writing away Ability (if that is the purpose he can come up with a convincing story on that one page he already has): his Ability is inevitably linked with his existence; therefore he thinks the only way to take away this twisted, suffering side of oneself is to end their lives.
Now, the second question is that, are Abilities an entirely bad thing? Like everything in BSD, it isn’t a black-and-white matter. We have seen many times our Stray Dogs use their Abilities to protect themselves, and the people they care about. We have to accept that there’s a side of us that feel insecure and unhappy from things we experienced, but this is also the side that help us sympathize & establish in-depth connections with people who are also suffering (see Lucy, Atsushi and Kyouka; Akutagawa and Atsushi; even Teruko’s understanding of Fukuchi may be a result of that).
One of Fyodor’s traits that contributed to his extremism personality is that he doesn’t, or rather refuses to, connect with people. He sees people as mindless chess pieces who live under the lies they tell themselves, easy to manipulate once you grant them the fulfillment of their desires. See? On the surface level he’s on better terms with his Ability — his dark side — than anyone else, and thats why he seems to understand the desires and conflicts in everyone he comes across. But in truth, Crime and Punishment stood with their backs to each other; what seems as reconciliation is actually Fyodor refusing to come face to face with himself. He exalts his pain. He celebrates non-existence. He attributes all his actions to the god — yet as we can see in the two-page spread before his confrontation with Ace, “if god doesn’t exist, then I am god”. He turns his back on his human self, and instead chooses to obsess with the image of a god that is actually how others perceive him to be: the bringer of fear and death, murderer of children, dangerous force of destruction. He takes it in and flips it around, worshipping his darkness, his human suffering, as a source of power.
I’m not saying, however, that Fyodor feels any pain or guilt I have implied here. He is not taking his revenge on the world because he is pained inside, no, let’s not go into that YA dark haired emo boy stereotype. Instead, he is wreaking havoc in the world precisely because he cannot feel this pain. Next will be some spoilers on Demons: one of the main characters, Stavrogin, confessed to a priest about causing a child’s death (won’t go into the nasty details; I’m still shaking from that), and yet he didn’t do it out of guilt — he did it because he wanted to feel proud and noble again, exposing his own sin to let others punish him with their malice, since he didn’t make an effort to repent and couldn’t forgive himself. Stavrogin doesn’t want to move on and trust his own ability to become a better person; instead, he tries to set the whole world against himself, in order to keep avoiding confronting his own conscience and continue to adhere to the false belief of his righteousness. [Spoiler Ends]
This might be a little confusing, but in simpler words, it’s similar to what Fyodor is doing: he doesn’t feel guilty for killing ppl; he hardly feels anything at all. He is a psychopath beyond redemption, that is what others see him as and what he willingly believes. He is excluded from the human world, he has fused himself with his Ability, turning himself wholly into an unfeeling, murderous monster. He forces himself to believe he is doing the right thing in destroying the world because he’s a coward. (Remember that Fyodor is supposed to be a foil of Dazai, and in No Longer Human Dazai calls himself a coward who’s afraid of happiness?) If he steps back and looks at what he did, all the children he killed, he would be forced to feel guilty, which he fears; so he frees himself of his humanity as well as his conscience to avoid accounting for his own darkness. He views the rest of the world as a sin because he doesn’t want to see himself as a sinner.
OK let’s talk a little about Gogol here then because I’m fyolai trash: “In opposition to god, you’re fighting to lose sight of yourself” what does this mean?
This is not actually a very accurate translation. The direct translation from Japanese should be: you are fighting to oppose god and lose sight of yourself. This line also kind of implies Gogol being associated with the military, since the word used for “fighting” here is heavily implied to be war-related. [Spoiler Again] Now, in Demons there is literally a character that resembles Gogol in every way: Pyotr Stepanovich is greatly fascinated with putting on an act, is a master of faking different, often ridiculous personalities to achieve his goal, and he is raising hell all over because he wants to uproot all previously established social systems, calling for a revolution that leads people into decadence and depravation. (AND he even also places the blame of somebody’s murder on an innocent person - while Pyotr is the murderer - as part of the plan!) [Spoiler Ends] This character in Demons is abandoned by his father, so he was always plagued with the belief that he was born wrong, and when his father sought him out only to exploit him further, he lost all belief in god and believed that chaos was the only answer to his empty, unloved existence. This shall provide an answer as to why Gogol thinks human feelings is a thing he ought to transcend: for some reasons his humanity might have been exploited to put him under the control of someone else. Even the person he’s closest with, Fyodor, sees him as a chess piece and he is well aware of that. AND the most deadly thing is that he is comfortable in this relationship because he is used to not receiving anyone’s good will.
Gogol is many things, but perhaps the one thing that draws him constantly to his demise is the fact that he is unloved. He wants to free himself from humanity for an entirely different reason: he feels the constant need to prove that it’s the world that’s wrong, that what he sees is the truth - his actions are controlled, he is trapped by human feelings that never get acknowledged or responded, and these morals/feelings give people power to walk all over him, to use him as a tool. His Ability, which connects spaces, means that his dark side is exactly this need to escape deterred by his fear of being forever trapped by his own limitations.
If I were to put this in a more religious light, since we’re talking about god and russians here, I would quote something from Nietzsche: The demand to be loved is the greatest of all arrogant presumptions. To want god’s love is to give yourself nonexistent sins for Him to forgive — this self-assigned sin is what controlled one’s actions, made one feel guilty. The futile outcry for love, and specifically for god’s love and forgiveness, is what makes people crazy and absurd in Nietzsche’s view. Gogol is sane, and is trying desperately to convince himself that he is so, by seeing through the lie that is called love. He denies himself faith and love in exchange for full control over himself. Why pursue something that he has only known to chain him down? Fyodor understands him, and plays along with his jokes, his games; he isn’t afraid of Fyodor’s understanding, no. He is afraid that he will grow to love his dear friend more until he is consumed by this human lie and forgets how much of a danger it is to his freedom. He trembles in his adoration of the man-god.
I have earlier put out a crack theory that Gogol is a foil of Chuuya. However, in this context, Gogol truly is similar to Chuuya seeing how they are constantly being used by other people, Gogol in a more literal sense since even his speech was pre-written; Chuuya allows himself to forgive and forget, and carry on with life focusing on the present, while Gogol becomes haunted by his hyperawareness of his situation and inability to be free. Neither of these attitudes are healthy and I say it’s no coincidence Asagiri decided to put Dazai, Fyodor, Chuuya, Nikolai and Sigma in the same arc. I look forward to everyone figuring out their problems with equally mentally ill enemies in prison.

I’m going to talk a bit about Shibusawa’s ability and what it says about Fyodor’s ability. Since Fyodor’s ability currently isn’t fully known and Shibusawa’s ability possibly reveals a lot about it.
(If you do not want to read my explanations about Shibusawa’s ability and want to skip directly to Fyodor’s ability, scroll to the ‘crime and punishment’ image. Tough I recommend reading the explanations)
So, from what we know in dead Apple, there’s a specific way abilities manifested when Shibusawa’s fog effected them. There’s two types of ones here. Normal abilities, and ‘physical’ abilities.
For normal abilities, manifestation takes the form of the persons ‘silhouette’ or shadow of the person because they don’t have their own form to take. They become a copy of their holder because they are part of them. They don’t really exist on their own outside of the user. So they still reflect what they are a part of.
Tumblr media
By physical ability, I mean ones like Akutagawa, Mori, Kyōka, and Atsushi, who all have specific physical forms already. And their manifestations from Shibusawa’s ability take that form. These abilities that are summoned or are actual things already have a form. So they don’t become the shadow or ‘spirit’ of the ability, they become what the ability normally is. Part of this may be because the abilities have a “mind” of their own to an extent. Demon snow does things to care for Kyōka, and she couldn’t control it. Atsushi couldn’t control the Tiger and didn’t remember time as it, showing them as sort of ‘separate’ beings that are also one, including during the movie. Rashomon is ‘hungry’ and seems to have at least some level of sentence. Elise is clearly her entire own person, often arguing with Mori.
These ‘physical’ abilities keep the general same appearance as always in their manifestation, only they gain a gem on their head.
Tumblr media
Now, why does the gem, the ability itself seemingly, appear on the head? I believe they’re placed in the head where the “brain” or “central” would be. Where the ability would, supposedly, be kept and controlled. In the mind.
So all abilities have their gem on their head, and take the form of their user if they don’t have their own physical form.
That is
Except Fyodor.
Tumblr media
As you can see, Fyodor’s ability manifestation does not look like the normal manifestations. The skin is the same color as usual, the eyes are not glowing, and he has facial features. What is more resembles is the physical abilities. Keeping the exact same appearance, just gaining a gem on their body.
The gem is not located on the forehead. It’s located on his hand. Gems are assumed to be placed on the central ‘control’ spot of the ability, which is why the others are located on the head. Implying that the ‘brain’ or control for this ability is not in his mind, but in his hands. In his touch.
These both seem like small differences chosen for the appearance of the scene. But I believe they imply much more and could explain the mystery of his ability.
Fyodor kills someone with bare contact. His morals and beliefs are a large part of his character as well. Morals and beliefs, and people being killed based on what one believed about them, is also a large theme in the actual Crime and Punishment. (I cannot speak too much on the book, I’m still reading it currently)
I believe his ability and himself are not the same. His ability is not something he can control. It is a ‘conscious’ thing, a physical ability, just like ones such as Elise and Demon Snow. The best way to explain this is the quote the image is from.
The true Fyodor says, “I am crime.”
This means he is the law, he determines what is a crime. A judgment is made based on his morals and beliefs, a set of rules he has created and put into place.
The ability says, “I am punishment.“
This means, literally, the punishment. The consequence that is given based on what the law decides for the crime. The punisher has to give the punishment deemed fair based on if the law has convicted them.
The Punishment, death, will be cast on someone based on what the law, Fyodor’s morals and beliefs, say about their Crimes.
The ability takes punishment into its own hands. When Fyodor comes into contact with someone, a quick judgment is made based on whether he interprets them as a criminal or ‘sinner’ without his knowing or intention. The ability does it for him. Based on that quick judgment from his morals, he decides if the person will be killed or spared. That’s why some die by his hand, such as Karma, and others don’t, such as Nikolai.
This is why it is a ‘physical’ ability. It has its own consciousness, choosing to punish or spare a person without Fyodor’s conscious thought of it. He made the rules, the set of morals a person would be judged with, the crimes. But he does not actively decide if one is to be punished for them or not.
Crime and punishment go hand in hand. But they are not the same. They effect each other, but one can not have total control of the other. This is how I perceive Fyodor’s ability.
Please keep in mind this is all theory/hc based on a single scene, don’t take it for fact!! I am happy to further discuss with people and hear others theories or ideas :))

Ok so not sure if this is a conspiracy theory or a headcanon but it's time to discuss Dazai and how he planned pretty much everything from at least the dragon head conflict, maybe to kill Fyodor, maybe to stop the decay of angels, or maybe because hic power secretly allows him to see the future, or multiple futures, and he wanted to stop things he didn't like.
Okay so, before we begin, this is from someone who hasn't read the manga or light novels so any information I have is coming from the anime and fanfiction, specifically YunaYamiMouto's BSD fics on AO3. I hope i've spelled that correctly. so my knowledge of these events is limited. As a result I'm not really gonna discuss these events except to say, if my information is correct, he's known about Fyodor since at least the Dragon Head conflict. There was something said in either season 4 or season 5 that i can't remember now. What I do remember is thinking, did this bitch literally have a however many year plan for this? Also I after Dead Apple, I imagine Dazai has known about Atsushi since the last time Shibasauwa was around. I feel like that was confirmed but I don't know.
So Dragon Head conflict has just ended, he's just found out about Atsushi and Fyodor and possibly the decay of Angels and he's already planning. Then he meets the Akutagawa siblings, now Ryu, as we all now, has a very destructive Abilty, and this is probably why Dazai took them in. It wasn't because he cared about them or wanted to help them, he just knew they could be used. So he the Akutagawas to the mafia, trains Ryuu, everything's going well. What I don't think he counted on was Oda and how much he'd grow to care about him. But Oda dies and with his last words asks him to help people. Dazai leaves the mafia, joins the Armed Detactive Agency, stays there for two years until rumors of a tiger terrorising Yokohama appear.
Pause, this is where my own personal headcanon comes in. In my headcanon, Dazai brought the Guild to Yokohama to make the ADA and PM work together and even the Special Abilities Division, so the tripartite system are more likely to work together when the Decay of Angels comes in. This is not canon as far as i know, but if I'm saying Dazai planned everything, you bet I mean everything. Do i care if this is wrong? No, it's just fun to consider.
So a tiger is in Yokohama, Dazai knows this is Atsushi due to previous discussions with Shibusawa. This is when he first reaches out to the Guild, telling them the weretiger can help them find the book. This causes the Guild to put the bounty on the weretiger, and thus the PM to go after Atsushi.
Now what does this accomplish? First, it brings Akutagawa and Atsushi, two people he has plans for and his two proteges together. Second, it allows the ADA and PM to actually meet and get a feel for each other's abilities. Is this a rivalry? Yes, but it allows them to grow to respect each other for their abilities. Think about it. One of the first times the PM goes after the ADA, the Black Lizard is defeated by 2 or 3 members. even if they don't like to admit it or like it in general, that's quite impressive and surely caused some respect from the PM towards the ADA to grow. Now, Dazai's plan for Akutagagwa and Atsushi. He knows his rivalry with Chuuya lead to a strong partnership between them, and hopes the same will work here, which makes sense. To have a rivalry, there has to be some level of mutual respect at least for each other's abilties even if you don't like them. And really, that's kinda what Dazai hopes will happne with the PM and ADA as well. This strong rivalry will turn into an even stronger partnership when they do have to work together. So that's season 1
All I'm saying is the Guild knew the weretiger could lead them to the book. How did they know that? How did anyone know that? So yeah, Dazai told them to start the rivalry between ADA and PM, knowing Atsushi would be able to avoid being captured and brought to them, especially if he's in the ADA.
So the Guild then comes to Yokohame to take it over and find the book. Also, I'm not saying they knew it was Dazai. If Dazai was doing this, I imagine he did it anonymously. So now, PM and ADA have a common enemy, so he goes with Fukuzawa to make the deal with Mori and, as we know, plans everything with the Moby Dick. So the ADA and PM have a temporary alliance and have successfully worked together just in time for Fyodor to turn up, and everything proceeds with canon
Dazai then goes to the newly repaired guild for the eyes of god. what deal did they make? i don't know, but with my headcanon, Dazai reveals he was the one who told them about the book, and reminds them they agreed to do him a favour in the future when he asked. Fyodor is arrested, season 4 and 5 happen. Fyodor supposedly dies, and Dazai's plan works.
I say supposedly because people in this show suck at dying and staying dead and I won't believe he's dead.
Anyway this was dumb but i can't stop thinking about it but yeah. This show has me by the throat and Fukuchi can still choke.

Anyway. I just have come off from seeing last week's episode (ep 12) and while I fully support bashing it, I WILL grab a shovel and dig for some positives i found in it, so...
- Atsushi apologising to Lucy for her help because it'll brand her as criminal is REALLY sweet and all, but my boy. My dear tiger. She used to be a part of the Guild (which I know skirts international laws and all but...)
- Love. LOVED seeing Fukuchi say how much "the lone wolf" has changed BECAUSE HE HAS
- I do like that I think, so far, we haven't seen a distinct ability colour for Tachihara's ability (we might've in Yosano's ep but memory)
- Tecchou stabbing Jouno in the foot. Beautiful
- Teruko's VA. The way she switches from sweet child to cool child to just child to Adult like the TALENT
- I don't know why but the fact that Lucy's ability can go from glorified time refrigerator to the heart of the ADA's new base makes me laugh
- SIGMA. I'M JUST GLAD WE GOT HIM!
(But I want to jump on the bashing bandwagon so...under the cut)
Honestly? A lot of people have said it better than I have. And I'm not toooo familiar with the Skyfall arc, even though I have skimmed a few panels or chapters here and there.
But, hmm. My two cents on it was the classic too many characters, too little time.
Also, what I've seen, this arc is supposed to really sell just how desperate everyone is. Like, take Atsushi saying "this is Dazai's plan" after verbalizing what Ango said about getting the location of the page.
I think what this arc was supposed to do was sort of...gently refute that? Show that maybe Dazai's plan isn't the best plan or at the very least emphasize how it really is the desperation of ordinary people that move things along. Yosano said it in the manga. Dazai also said it. Even Fyodor.
I mean right here, the characters that are present might not exactly be ordinary people, but compared to the genuis and/or power of the other characters, people like the Hunting Dogs or Sigma or the Kyouka-Lucy-Atushi trio really are less extraordinary than people like Dazai, Fyodor, and Fukuchi. And yet they're the ones making (excuse the Englishy pun) the sky fall...
I think where the episode falls short the most is that they didn't capture that desperation of these guys, showing how they ALL really were just hanging by a thread. So manga skyfall, I think, shows not how Dazai's plan is supposed to work but how the intense determination and will of just some guys will make it work. Or how the plans of genuises will fail and STILL there will be ordinary people to get back up and try again. Tachihara literally using his identity crisis to overpower the book. Teruko using the simple act of growing up to stop a plane. Atsushi, Kyouka, and Lucy with their powerful abilities but comparatively "lesser" intellect figuring things out through their empathy. Sigma and his desire to belong.
Something something step 1, the ada loses credibility via powerful book. Step 2, normal people struggle and sometimes fail, sometimes come out on top of powerful book...and it sure hurts a lot

i don't know who wants to know this but i made a few weird headcanons... uhm enjoy i guess???
what if there was a ____-chopping arc where all the bsd men get their ____'s chopped off and that was fyodor's real plan.
what if atsushi one day woke up as a tiger (because of the book or whatever and it was also dazai's plan for some sskk teamwork thing) and he had to stay like that for 3 days because dazai pretended to be dead so he couldn't use no longer human. but that's all part of the plan because akutagawa has to deal with byakko... for a mission.
some bsd characters being put in a room where they have to face their fears.
some bsd characters being put in some kind of glass box and having to meet their past selves (isolated from the glass box. this was based off a dream i had where i witnessed things i knew i was going to regret, but i couldn't tell my past self anything and i kept hitting the glass. that's so bsd coded)
dazai making a tinder profile (with all of kunikida's ideals for a woman) and kunikida gets catfished by dazai (but he doesn't know that) so they end up going on a date. oh actually fast forward to when they get married and the port mafia attacks because chuuya is jealous 💀.
tecchou running in slo-mo then getting flashbacks of jouno...
yokohama being kept in some kind of bubble, isolated from the rest of the world as they see it getting destroyed. the world is ending and they can't do anything to stop it because they're stuck in that bubble (someone's ability probably.) and there's also someone's ability that can brainwash people (almost like a pandemic / war)...and it now the whole world is going against yokohama while also getting destroyed. yokohama is "safe", but at what cost? in the end it's just yokohama against the world.
innocent version: someone has a cupid ability and we get to see our favorite ships in love :DD
explicit verson: someone has a sex pollen ability and yokohama is wilding 💀... but soukoku doesn't get affected by the sex pollen ability, yet everyone thinks otherwise. soukoku has just always been like that, and they use it to their advantage and executes a plan for it (kinda like the fyodor thing.)
(bsd wan): akutagawa and atsushi bump into each other...and the usual "jinko...what are you doing here!!!!" and "akutagawa??? what are YOU doing here???" ok y'know what nevermind this is canon.
i'm gonna update this when i think of more

NEW BSD EPISODE, THOUGHTS
There was a lot of cool stuff that happened this episode! The ADA reuniting scene with Atsushi tackle hugging Kunikida and Kyouka having to physically keep herself from also tackle hugging her family, Seeing Tecchou again, bunch of old man yaoi, Ranpo being an absolute delight and my favorite character he is so cool I love him and so does half of the police force, the appearance of our boy Akutagawa, And a bunch of really cool animation choices! The part where Atsushi was talking about how he was scared and then the words saying fear condensed and turned into Atsushi was awesome, and I think I saw a style change when they were talking about Fukuchi's backstory, and style changes are always awesome. We still haven't seen what the ending looks like but from what I could hear of it the song is pretty good!
What I want to talk about the most though is stuff that I heard about from the Fukuchi backstory, before that though I just wanna say,
BSD FANDOM PLEASE. I KNOW WE HATE FUKUCHI BUT THERE WAS SO MUCH STUFF ABOUT HIM THAT WE SOULD TALK ABOUT MORE!!! First of all, the fact that he has three movies based on him and that most of the united nations guys seem to have a crush on him is fucking hilarious. And second of all, this is the part I want to scream about,
ONE OF HIS PAST EXPLOITS IN THE WAR WAS ABOUT HIM GETTING RID OF A PROJECT THAT WAS CREATING WERE-PEOPLE!!! WERE-PEOPLE!!!
WHO DO WE KNOW THAT HAS A WERE-PERSON POWER, A STILL SLIGHTLY NOT EXPLAINED PAST (LOOKING AT YOU 'Compared to what your parents did to you when you were first born this doesn't even count as abuse') AND WHATEVER THE FUCK MADE HIM SO SPECIAL IN THE DEAD APPLE (LOOKING AT YOU USING YOUR ABILITY EVEN WHEN YOUR ABILITY CRYSTAL HAD ALREADY BEEN REMOVED AND ALSO IT'S BLUE WHEN ALL THE OTHER CRYSTALS WERE RED)?
THATS RIGHT. FUCKING
ATSUSHI
Am I yelling too much? Quite possibly. Do I care? NO! THIS INFORMATION COULD BE SO IMPORTANT!!! THE VAMPIRE'S THAT THEY MENTIONED APPEAED AGAIN, WHO SAYS THAT THIS MIGHT NOT SHOW UP LATER!!?
I have done the math, the war ended about 11 to 12 years ago, meaning that Atsushi had been born already while the war was still going on, it's entirely possible that he might be connected to that incident!! And while it does kinda seem like that whole thing happened kinda early on in the war, well that's what parents are for!
This could also tie into whatever is connecting him to the book, if the tiger is an artificial ability created by some government, maybe they used the book or something like that! To be completely honest I am constantly grasping at straws to figure out what the heck is up with Atsushi and the book, I have no idea what could be connecting them, but, the more theories you have the more likely that one of them will be correct!!
Now, from this point on I'm going to be discussing manga spoilers, so anime onlys beware.
I am both so hyped and so fucking scared for next Wednesday, for as we all know, Akutagawa does exactly three things in this arc, show up, be gay, and die. He's accomplished the first one, I'm excited for the second one, and the third one terrifies me. I DON'T WANT HIM TO DIEEEEEEEEEE!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!! But I'm also so excited for 'you know the reason yourself, don't you?' and 'run, you fool (soft smile)' and 'from the start the hole was only for his ally to escape through' because, shin soukoku canon. But also all of the gay shit comes with the knowledge of what comes next and AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!! FUCK!
Also, one thing that happened in this episode kinda reminded me of a question I had.
Where the fuck are Junichirou and Kenji???
Have they just been wandering the port mafia underground this entire time? I know that Juni probably runs into them again, or at least runs into Kunikida, but does he ever meet up with Atsushi or the rest of the agency at all? Or does he just get kidnapped off screen and we don't see him until they reveal him tied to the bed? And what about Kenji?? Does he just walk around with no idea what's going on with the agency until he meets Tecchou? Where is he???
Anyways, great episode can't wait for next week!!!

Atsushi with a Clingy S/O
Tumblr media
✧・゚: * Prompt ~ Atsushi with a really affectionate (slightly clingy) reader, with abandonment issues. ~ ✧・゚: * Character/Pairing ~ Atsushi x gn!reader ~ ✧・゚: * Content ~ Reader with abandonment issues, and Atsushi helping them through it ~ ✧・゚: * Type ~ Drabble, Fluff~ ✧・゚: * Author’s Note ~ Sorry about the wait, real life has been wild, but I hope you enjoy this! The weretiger would be so sweet about it, and I could see him using it to help work through his own. I also got a little drabbley with this, I hope you don't mind! ~
Tumblr media
❈ Atsushi would completely understand being insecure, especially because of your upbringing, but I think first his instinct to leave if he’s causing problems could be an issue at first. It would take work on both sides, both to reassure him that he’s not going to get you hurt, and that he really does want to stay with you.
❈ He might even feel bad about your insecurity with it though like he made you feel like that. His reassuring words are how much he loves you, that he has no plans of leaving, how it’s okay to be anxious about it, that it’s all normal, and it would be to reassure himself as much as you.
| ✧ Show him that you want to be together, that you can keep yourself safe, and that you’re willing to do so to stay with him.
❈ After that stage though, he’d do nothing but love your clinginess, it makes him feel wanted, and needed. Especially since you want him for more than his ability, for him, it just makes his heart melt. He'd do his best to make sure that you're both able to support each other but without becoming too codependent.
❈ Atsushi would constantly give you little things for comfort when he does have to go, even if it is just a little rock he found on the way home one day or a stuffed tiger he won at the fair. He’ll give them to you to hold when he’s gone.
| ✧ I can see him “filling them up with spare kisses”, like that kids' book, A Pocket Full of Kisses, so you have them whenever he’s gone.
Tumblr media
It’s early in the morning, and you’re laying with your head in Atsushi’s lap on the couch before he heads to work for the agency. As you feel him start to shuffle beneath you to get his things together, you pout, “Wait, can you just stay a little longer?” Atsushi smiles softly, and reaches down to kiss your forehead, “You know I have to go in soon, I don’t want to be late… Mr. Kunikida wouldn’t be happy…”
You know in your head he’ll come back, that you’ll see him for lunch like you do every day, that he’ll be home as soon as he’s done. But you still hate the feeling of him leaving, the panic that sets in as your mind tries to convince you otherwise, that he’ll stop caring when he leaves or that he’ll find someone better. Atsushi sees the worry on your face as you start to spiral in your thoughts again, and reaches out to you. “Hey, moonlight, stay with me,” his hands caress your face, purple and yellow eyes meeting yours with concern. He knows the feeling, growing up in the conditions he experienced made him all too familiar with the feeling of abandonment.
“I’m so clingy, you’d be better off without me.” Since starting at the ADA he’s gotten better at understanding his own value to the people he loves, but the same worries flooded his mind when the two of you got together before he became more confident in your ability to protect yourself. He hates hearing those words coming out of your mouth, that the most wonderful person in his life, the one who completes him feels like they’re lacking.
Running his fingers through your hair, he picks up his phone and sends a text, before getting comfortable on the couch. You look up at him “You’re gonna be late if I keep you any longer, you should head out to work” He smiles a little and pulls you up onto his chest, wrapping his arms around you in the process. “There’s nothing important going on today, I’d rather we have some time together. We can talk about this if you want, or just be lazy for a little while. If, that’s okay with you?”

Bsd rant (manga spoilers!)
I love how characters from BSD are written. They all have their flaws unique to them, but what’s very interesting that captivates me is how the characters view the world.
First, our beloved *clap clap* protagonist. We do not talk about the frankly horrible headmaster who did all that shit “for his own good”. I wouldn’t want to touch that with a bargepole. From what most of us can gather, Atsushi pursues justice because of the headmaster’s “one with no redeeming values as yrself have no right to live” teaching which has been drilled into him for a long time. That’s the main motivation for him, which is why the Hunting Dogs arc gave him a pretty big blow because they’re criminals now. WTF? *Tiger boy’s internal confusion*
Tumblr media
But justice is also a very thin line you set by yourself. Look at Tachihara after he realizes his justice clearly fucked him over because he chose being a HD when attacking the Black Lizard. This is exactly why I’m excited for what Teruko will reveal to Atsushi in the latest chapter – will it challenge his view on justice? What will he choose to do?
Next will be Lucy, because I’m sorta shit at analyzing and they’re more obvious. Lucy is angry at the world and those around her in a way that’s “why is the world unfair? Why just me and no one else?” Reminds me of Q a lot. She’s mad and frustrated at the world for the terrible experiences in her life – it’s like walking out on the streets and noticing that nobody carries the emotional baggage she has, and the pot of bitterness boil over. Her life hadn’t gotten much better despite being away from her personal hell and Lucy is then in the Guild, a criminal organization that seems to want her ability more than they want her. It makes sense for her to feel a sense of unfairness in her situation.
Pushkin is similar to Lucy in thinking the world is unfair. However, he uses his weak ability as an excuse to commit crimes, seeing it as revenge to people who are stronger and more powerful in terms of ability, social standing, or influence. Pushkin believes that the world will overlook his crimes as reimbursement for his weakness. It’s a very twisted way of thinking, and the manga/anime managed to show a lot about his personality and motivations despite being a minor antagonist.
Tumblr media
Tanizaki is incredibly easy to read. He’s literally said out loud that Naomi is a god-like existence to him as far as he’s concerned. His entire life revolves around his darling little sister – so much that Tanizaki wouldn’t mind if the world were to burn as long as his sister is happy and well. I hate their canon interaction (It makes no sense) but Junichirou is my favourite character because of his obsession and passion which is influenced by his real-life counterpart. I find it incredibly fascinating that people will go to great lengths for what they believe – weird, I know.
Tumblr media
This little theory is something I thought about recently, because I love stories that overlap with reality – reason number 1 Harry Potter and Percy Jackson fascinated me that much. What if abilities used to exist, but thanks to the rat writing in the book, abilities were erased, the past present and future got rewritten because the book needs a plot? So practically everything about abilities were rewritten and the characters went on their respective ways if abilities never existed – like if Chuuya didn’t have his ability, he’d have been a regular boy in a regular home since main reason he was roped into mafia life was because of the experiments and the Sheep. Dazai would still be neck-deep in crime. Fukuzawa might still be an assassin and Mori could be an actual legal doctor. Yosano be growing up normally doing whatever career she wants (since she was originally candy shop girl). Atsushi might have a better life in the orphanage and live a decent life… The possibilities are endless.
__The end :D

BSD Chapter 104/103.5 SPOILERS Ahead!!
It’s been a bit since I made one of these types of posts, but I think I should once again put my silly little thoughts out there.
In the most recent chapters, according to the summary and some early translations of the chapter that came out today, apparently Teruko learned that Fukuchi is the mastermind and has decided to side with him.
Now, I don’t know about you, but this is pretty contradictory to what we already know about Teruko’s character.
During the Sky Casino arc we learned quite a bit about her. No clear backstory or motivations just yet, but we did learn that she alone is responsible for lowering crime rates and has even stated that she dislikes worlds run by violence. She also did everything in her power to not hurt the civilians in the casino despite the fact that they were actively hunting her and Tachihara down.
Why on Earth would someone like that want to knowingly side with a terrorist no matter how much she adored him??
Now yes, she does enjoy torturing people, but it’s also revealed that she doesn’t enjoy torturing innocent or even nice people, that being the reason she released Atsushi in the first place.
So why would she tell Atsushi she’s sided with him?? Why would she side with him at all??
To start, perhaps she’s just doing that to stay close to him, close enough to possibly stab him in the back.
As Fukuchi’s right hand, in a sense, she know damn well how strong he is, and while we as an audience believe that she could take him, she probably doesn’t, most likely due to that sword. She could have had a better chance at defeating him with Tecchou by her side, but after hearing that he had been defeated she probably assumed the worst, she has no reason to think he would be spared in a battle against the enemy.
But why tell Atsushi she was siding with him?? Well, if she was really faking her current loyalty to Fukuchi, then she would still be in that position of law enforcement, meaning she is still under the Book’s influence.
Again, the Book made it so all law enforcement see the ADA as terrorists. Perhaps Teruko wanted to see if Atsushi would actually reveal himself as a criminal after hearing that she had join Fukuchi’s side.
But she also probably wanted to test him. She challenged him to a fight, perhaps that’s her way of testing his resolve. She probably knows she’ll win, even with Atsushi’s tiger he’s proven to be no match for her, so perhaps seeing how hard he fights to prove his innocence will finally free her of the Book’s grasp, in a sense prove that the ADA, or at least this weretiger, is innocent.
Anyway, that’s most of the thoughts I had about this (I think, I just got home). Anyway, all I can say is I hope I’m right about this little theory

Considering Fyodor knew Atsushi was the guide and at the Orphanage... Imagine how pissed he is when they kick Atsushi out.
Fyodor: bursts in I'm here for the guide.
Headmaster: The guide?
Fyodor: For the book, you simpleton. The little tiger beetle, where is he?
Headmaster: Tiger beetle...?... Oh you mean Atsushi, we don't know.
Fyodor: shocked... What?
Headmaster: We kicked him out, 2 weeks ago.
Fyodor: So pissed he broke character You... Kicked... Him... Out?! I spent years searching for that boy, for the key to find that book! And now that the moment the time is right to rid this world of sin... HE'S GONE?!
Headmaster: terrified nod
Fyodor: You better hope he's still alive! Pulls out a phone Fitzgerald, I want a bounty on the tigers head, now.
Francis: How much?
Fyodor: I don't know! 7 billion yen, yeah that'll do it.
Francis: smirk Is that all?
Fyodor: even more pissed If he's not found by the end of the month, I will tell your wife her daughter is dead, do not test me!
Francis:... Yes sir.
Fyodor: hangs up, turns to the Headmaster And you... I think I'll leave you with Nikolai.
You see, he's not a big fan of people taking someone else's freedom. And believe you me, if the guide is dead what I'll do to you will be considered mercy.

BEAST thoughts
* The whole thing, the whole thing, was that there would be one universe where Oda lives and writes novels. Just one universe, out of the infinite possibilities.
* B!Dazai has all the memories of OG!Dazai - which is how he knew what needed to be done, and when. Which in a way means ‘Beast Dazai’ does not exist. Not as an independent person. Rather, Beast!Dazai is simply an extension of OG!Dazai.
* Which means that Oda’s rejection of B!Dazai near the end is not why B!Dazai dies. Dazai’s actually quite clear that him dying was part of the plan all along, that it was even necessary to ensure the Beast universe remained intact.
* So why would Dazai go to see Oda? I think ...partly because he couldn’t stop himself. He built an entire universe to let his dear friend live and write and I think once that was assured he couldn’t stop himself from seeing if maybe, just maybe, now they could be friends? But everything he had to do to create that world meant Oda was never going to be his friend. Not even enough to let Dazai see the manuscript he’d written. So Dazai stuck to the original plan; handed the reins over to SSKK and bowed out.
* This book should never have been made into a live action movie. Oh gods. The CGI is horrible. The SFX in every clip I’ve seen is just...bad. Please, please, please, let them make an animated version sometime. Episodes, movie, I don’t care, just let it be animated properly.
* Atsushi is one neurotic tiger boy. Like, he’s better with the ADA but even so, still neurotic. Mafia Atsushi has taken all his fear and concentrated it down to a fine diamond point, which makes him almost seem normal the rest of the time. It’d be nice to see main-timeline Atsushi that quietly confident, someday.
* Same goes for Akutagawa. Let the boy evolve. Let him grow past his rage and fury and notice-me-senpai BS. There’s a clever man under there. A quick and capable thinker, capable of compassion and empathy and for fuck’s sake, does it have to be limited to an AU? Can we hope that maybe on the other side of this current arc, he’ll live and be cured of vampirism and...no, wait, I’m reading this sentence as I type it and the answer’s just ‘no’, isn’t it.
* You know, I’m a little surprised that, of all the ways to kill himself that Dazai has tried (some repeatedly), he was happy to throw himself off a building. I mean. People have survived that. Which, given what Dazai’s survived, means he really should’ve had the worry that HE might survive. But he didn’t - and he knew he wouldn’t. Which makes me think that his death, too, was something he Knew from the Book had to happen and could happen.
* I really. Really. REALLY. want to see Dazai pick up the Book in the main timeline. That’s gotta be a trip, to see all your infinite alternate selves and their lives, all at once. (Is that why he can’t die in the main timeline? Because he’s fated to touch the Book, and the power of it’s extended backward in time to essentially make sure that what is fated is what happens?)

F!Bsd anime watcher in the bsd world… pt 4/?
“𝐁𝐮𝐭… 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐞..”
Summary of the last chapter: Victoria guessed past occupation and Atsushi and Victoria got their first job. Atsushi first sees Ryunosuke’s appearance in a photo. Dazai laughed at Victoria’s ‘he has no eyebrows’ comment.
No one’s pov
Dazai’s singing on the couch in the agency with his headphone on.
“I’m waiting for a revelation.” Dazai says while smiling.
Victoria pov
Meanwhile Tanizaki, Naomi, Atsushi and me are following Higuchi, Atsushi’s doubting his abilities, if he’s cut out for this job. Tanizaki comforts Atsushi, then they’ve talked until Naomi starts doing weird things again, I only listen and follow Higuchi silently, thinking that Ryu’s gonna make Atsushi confident soon enough.
“We’re here.” Higuchi says, and we follow her into the dark alleyway.
“Is this really the right place?” Tanizaki asks, as we turn around to look at Higuchi.
“Um…”
“The name’s Higuchi.”
“Higuchi-san. Smugglers are a cowardly bunch. They’ll always have an escape route. But this is a dead end. If anyone came after them from there, they’d have nowhere to run.”
“That’s correct.” Higuchi drops her bag and unbuttons her shirt’s top two buttons as she continues. “I apologise. I led you into a trap.” She puts her glasses on, “My real target was you.” then takes out her walkie talkie.
“Akutagawa senpai.” Higuchi talks to the other side of the walkie talkie, which is Ryunosuke.
“Akutagawa?!” Tanizaki and Atsushi’s eyes widen and they say in a shocked tone at the same time, as I also mumble in a fake shocked tone, “Akutagawa..”.
“I have them, as planned.” Higuchi ignores our shocked expressions and continues speaking to the other.
“She’s…with the Port Mafia!” Gunshots are heard.
No one’s pov
In the agency, Dazai’s eyes widen while listening to his headphone and holding his suicide book to his chest.
Gunshots were heard. Naomi was shot. As Tanizaki tries to ask Atsushi to take Naomi out of this situation, Higuchi points the gun right at Tanizaki’s head, about to shoot him knowing that Tanizaki’s a non-combatant member. Tanizaki gets mad and activates his ability, light snow.
Victoria pov
I’m behind Atsushi, not comforting him cause not wanting to change any history, looking around at the green ‘snow’ as Tanizaki explains his ability, I quietly and slowly move to behind Atsushi since she did not shoot Atsushi in the cannon plot.
No one’s pov
Higuchi starts shooting all around her, she missed. Tanizaki grabs Higuchi’s neck from behind and he becomes visible as he holds her neck.
“Die!”
Rashoumon attacks Tanizaki from behind, Tanizaki falls down on the ground, the attacker coughs. “Fear death.”(bro’s trying so hard to make people fear him like people fear his mentor aka some suicidal maniac) “Fear slaughter.” Inserting Atsushi’s fish eyes scene. “Those who desire death have an equal desire to die.”(describing his mentor again) “Therefore… It’s nice to meet you. I’m Akutagawa, one of the Port Mafia’s dogs, as is she.” Ryu coughs again. (I hc Mori named every pm members as dogs, the animal that Dazai hated)
“Akutagawa-senpai!” Higuchi gets up. “I can handle this myself—” The port mafia mad dog slaps across the blonde’s face. “I believe my orders were to take the weretiger alive! And yet here you are, gunning everyone down. You useless bitch! Stand down.” Ryunosuke scolds the blonde, “I’m sorry.” she apologises.
Victoria pov
Ok the slapping scene’s actually amusing, why am I so weird… But it definitely hurt, it was pretty loud. Back to the topic, in order not to affect their relationship in the future, ima shut up.
Atsushi pov
“Take the weretiger alive?” I ask, still in the floor progressing things. “What are you after?” I continue asking the questions that have been in my head since they mentioned I was being targeted by the dangerous organisation, Port Mafia. What do they want from the tiger?…
“My target has always been you, and you alone, weretiger.” I hear the response…by Akutagawa that dangerous man even Kunikida san fears. “Your fellow agents lying there just got caught in the crossfire.”
I gasp, “This is because of me?”
“Indeed. That is your karma, weretiger. You cause misfortune for everyone around you, just by living.” I gasp again listening to his words.
My past memories came in my mind. “My…karma?” I stare at the ground, mumbling.
I could hear the mafioso. “Ability: Rashoumon.” I gasp as I see his…transformation…? I’m not sure— I look down and cover my face, I look at the side where he attacked, it… was destroyed destructively…
“I missed that on purpose that time, of course. But my Rashoumon has poor taste.(it’s hot though) It devours anything and EVRYTHING. I intend to capture you alive but if you continue to resist, I’ll take your leg next.”
“Why…” I look down at my shaky legs “Why… Why me?” Today, I have joined the Armed Detective Agency… Is this my fault, too…? Do I make everyone around me suffer just by living?
“A… Atsushi kun.” I hear Tanizaki and look at him. “Run, Atsushi kun.” T-They’re still alive.
Victoria pov
As I watch Atsushi struggle and thinking the worst, he finally gets up, runs towards to the gun behind Ryunosuke and grabs it and starts shooting Ryunosuke’s back, which did not work at all and Ryu the emo starts explaining about his ability, the hot Rashoumon again, I almost yawned, man.
Ryu cuts off Sushi’s leg, his eyes widen in shock and screams in pain, Ryu just coughs,(Covid man) the blood is all over the ground.
Probably after thinking about some memories related to crying stuff? I think, I remember it’s something like that. He transforms into a tiger, bro lost control over bad memories. Also! It’s amusing to watch, sadly I don’t have popcorn with me though. And- ah. No it’s fine, I’m too invisible and I’m not even the main topic, Tanizaki shouldn’t have paid attention to me and Atsushi 100% didn’t since I wasn’t one of the ones that got injured and I’m a child, Higuchi’s attention has been to Tanizaki, Atsushi and his emo senpai, Ryunosuke’s too focus on catching the target and abusing his subordinate(Higuchi). About Dazai who’ll come later on… it’ll be fine, everything’s be fine, for now still.
Damnnnnn! Shin Soukoku’s first fight! First meet! It’s so amazing- and again so interesting to watch! My eyes are sparkling with sparkles in an admired way. Oh? Higuchi starts shooting at Atsushi cause of his senpai, well she simps Ryu but uh, does too much! Just Ryu in the past he never listens to Dark era Daz 100% too— Rashoumon stabs through the tiger’s middle? Waist? Idk about tigers’ body parts.
As the fight continues, a familiar voice can be heard and be seen.
“Okay, that’s enough!” [No longer human activated] Can this man teleport??????? I probably was just too focus, sigh, whatever…
I look at Dazai, who used his ability on his old subordinate and the new one. After Dazai explaining why he’s here, he sits down in front of Atsushi and pats his head, telling him to wake up because he doesn’t want to carry all the people back at the same time.
No one’s pov
“The Port Mafia will claim that seven billion.”(I skipped some unnecessary sentences.)
“Is that a declaration of war on the Armed Detective Agency?” The brunette stands up and asks. “Try it…if you dare.”
“You’re a small-scale operation, whereas we are this city’s darkness made incarnate. We have connections in this city’s politics and economy at every level. An agency with a dozen or so operatives will become ashes along with your office in three days’ time. No one has opposed us and lived.” The blonde frowns and threatens the detective.
“I know all that.” The detective replies.
“Indeed.” The mad dog speaks. “You know that better than anyone as an ex-Port Mafia member. Dazai san.” Dazia smiles back confidently.
Victoria pov
As the silence continues, I stand up slowly and stretches. “Man are you guys done? You either stop the staring contest or I simply go back to the agency on my own Dazai san.” My legs have gone numb from not moving an inch the entire time!” I say as I slowly walk and stand next to Dazai.
The brunette turns to me, “Oh my Vicky chan! I’m glad to see you healthy well! Mostly because of you’re not injured so that you can help me take how of these unconscious people back to the agency!~ Thank you~”
Higuchi eyes widen, “I forgot about her being here…”
Ryunsouke pov
I frown and mumble, “She heard about Dazai san’s past…” I shouldn’t doubt and worry about Dazai san, he’s not someone to be underestimated after-all, he’s the most powerful. I’m sure he’ll handle it. I frown further, 𝐛𝐮𝐭… 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐞.
