Update Post - Week 4, November 14, 2022

Whoops... forgot it was Sunday yesterday! Time is a circle.

The demo continues to be written. Right now I am about 4k in words, but the bulk of my time has gone to handling code and going over some design layouts with a close friend. I expected the prologue to be short and sweet, but I decided to be completely extra about the character customization and additional details by adding some cool effects and other tomfoolery. Oh, I want to share them for proof that I've been working hours everyday at this WIP... but I'll leave it as a surprise for now!

I'm also experimenting with a cool feature. This is very tentative, but clicking on certain links in the text (of which will be a different color than a regular link that lets you proceed) will have you "look" at an object, person or place. This will bring up additional description or information on them, and this info will be added to your codex (will be implemented in the future). Looking at certain things may influence the story, indirectly (if you forget something, you may not be able to look it up if you didn't interact with it) or directly (characters noticing you looking). I might make this optional, and I'm still wondering whether to add it, but I think it'll be cool! Please let me know your thoughts on it!

Worked more on the lore and worldbuilding. I'm very comforted by the fact that I've figured out more about my world, and I'm excited to continue exploring it today and in the future! This'll allow me to better answer lore questions and give the world a better feel. This seems pretty minor, but trust me when I say I'm super happy with it because it'll really let the setting come to life.

I'm thrilled about the progress I'm making after clawing my way out of my emergency. Now that I'm of good health and mind again, I can throw myself at writing and coding happily.

There are so many minor adjustments I'm so excited to share, but I'll keep them all a secret for now... Can't show my entire hand yet!

Closing this, a question for all of you guys: since the pantheon of gods are so extensive and you guys loved MCs' parents (the enthusiasm is insane! I've gotten so many asks about them and even more in my inbox still), how many of you guys would be interested in a weekly (or somehow regularly scheduled) spotlight of the other minor side characters? This'll cover all Twelve gods and their children briefly!

I thought of this because I want to keep you guys entertained while the demo is still in the works, and I'm delighted that people are just as invested in the side characters. I hope to introduce you guys to more of them and test the waters for their reception!

After graduation came a break before work started for Renee. It was also Jay and Miracle's wedding! Renee and Vincent travelled all the way to Chestnut Ridge for this special occasion and it was such a joy to see Jay again! Though Vincent felt a bit light-headed upon arriving. He was just tired from the long journey, right? But don't worry he felt a lot better after a nap on the bench.

Transcript:

Renee: Finally we are here! Now where are we meant to meet Jay and Miracle? Vincent: Uhh my head [takes a moment to respond] Didn't he say New Appaloosa? The town centre? Renee: Let me check google maps again. Aha! We are in New Appaloosa.

[Renee continues looking. She zooms out to Oasis Springs, to an area of endless desert…just out of curiosity] Renee: I guess they couldn't update the map as there's no evidence. So this place must be Strangervil-

[Vincent's mind goes blank for a second and suddenly Renee's voice seems so far away. His head sways to one side and his eyes struggle to stay open. He could see Renee but everything looks blurry] Renee: Vince! Are you ok? [she grabs hold of him and they walk towards a bench to sit down]

Vincent: Shit. I just blanked out for a sec. God, I'm so knackered from the flight. Renee: Here have some water. We'll rest for a bit longer, there's time [snuggles close to him] Vincent: [smiles and rests his eyes] What would I do without you Renee?

Jay: [clears throat] Ahem still recognise me? Renee: Jay!?! Ahh Jay, it really is you! Damn, it's been so long! Jay: You're the same as always! I missed you, Renee.

Renee: And Miracle [squeals] Woah you're so beautiful in person! Miracle: Thanks gorgeous! You're exactly how Jay had described! [sees Vincent resting] Oh is Vincent OK? Renee: Yeah he's just tired. Hey Vince look who's arrived.

Vincent: Oh it's Jay and Miracle! Sorry, my head's a bit [he blinks a few times] It's so good to finally meet you two, just call me Vince, any friend of Renee is a friend of mine! And congrats, we can't wait for the big day! Jay: We've been dreaming about it forever, right Mir? And I've heard so much about you Vince.

[The guys continue walking as they get to know more about each other] Vincent: [nudges him] Oh god what did Renee tell you? Hopefully only good things eh? Jay: Well…interesting to say the least [they laugh together]

Hey!! I was wondering if once your done writing Into The Deep, could you maybe do 2 updates a week instead of 1?

Hi! So, I'm already considering doing this, and as I only have three chapters left to write, I very well may end up doing so.

That said - please, please don't ask me things like this. If you're familiar with my typical fic update schedules, it's very rare for me to be able to stick to a regular, weekly updates. I am an extremely busy person, and weekly updates are already a huge lift for me to squeeze in.

Into The Deep is very much an anomaly for me in terms of how consistent the updates have been, and achieving that consistency required me plotting out the fic a full year in advance, doing a ton of research, and several months of writing ahead of time before the first chapter was even posted.

I've put in a ton of work into this fic and have a lot more planned for this AU as a whole, so if I decide to stick to just the weekly Sunday updates, please know I am doing so for a very good reason (i.e. the fic is growing, I'm working on spin-offs, I don't have time and/or I just need a break).

Under the stain is so good and so well written! Huge fan. I was wondering what’s the schedule for updates since you mention that the next chapter is already ready but I’ve had to wait for weeks for it to drop. Please drop it earlier if you can :((

I already drop chapters of A Stain that Won't Dissolve earlier than I used to, because it used to be a chapter every 3 weeks, and now it's a chapter every 2. I can't go any faster, because I am literally working on eight different stories right now, and you know, I need money to eat food, and live, and pay my medical bills, and Stain doesn't do any of that, so my other writing has to come first.

I'm doing the best I can, anon.

You can always check out my writing schedule here. Generally A Stain that Won't Dissolve goes up every second Sunday. You are not the only one who is having to wait two weeks for it to arrive, everyone is, and I'm glad you're enjoying it, just...please know I'm also a real person who is working really hard all the time on my writing and Stain can't come first, unless you're willing to come here and pay me a living wage? Then we can work something out ;)
