Any weird encounters with Spheals?

Unfortunately, I live in the southern part of Sinnoh, in way warmer seas than their normal habitat, so I've never encountered one in person but my husband has!

Not a weird encounter per se, but back when he was studying 'mon rehabilitation they had to take care of three baby spheals that were abandoned after being recently hatched. So, they had to teach them how to do natural behaviors that they would do in the wild, like rolling. That meant, gently pushing them down a teeny tiny slope so they could learn the gist of it.

Also, because once they learn how to roll they will start rolling as fast as their tiny bodies can, they had to transport them in buckets. Which is the context behind one of the funniest pictures I've ever seen:

Do you have any specific advice for insuring a sculpture, akin to the general size and shape of what you make, doesn’t explode in the kiln? Your art is honestly amazing and has inspired me to try and get back into 3D art (I suck at it). I’m very worried about a project exploding from trapped air. Thank you for your time.

i haven't really had problems with stuff exploding in the kiln myself (save some pit fires which are inherently hard to control haha) i just make sure my pieces are super dry before they go into the kiln. from what i understand, the trapped air causing explosions thing is a bit of a misunderstanding anyway - water in clay is what's really the problem. so giving closed forms holes for airflow and making sure no part of your piece is too thick to ensure it dries well is the goal! if your pieces are as dry as they can be before firing them, you should be good

#ask #also: bone dry clay is room temperature #while clay that's still wet will be colder to the touch due to evaporation! #and if you fire your own stuff you can always candle your kiln for a while before bisque firing #also climate plays a part... i live in a very arid area. if you live somewhere humid patience becomes key

My favourite things to make are watercolor palettes. :3

The heart dish was my 1st attempt at air dry clay. I love working with it as long as it doesnt stick to the mold im using and fuck itself up, like our friend here. I have another batch of trinkets and trinket catchers drying now and they arent sticking nearly as bad as my 1st attempt.
