Wires and Nerves had a budget of about 5 American dollars and an expired smoothie coupon because there’s no way the author saw that and was like “yes, this is the perfect art style!”. Cinder literally looks different every five panels and, based on Kai’s character alone, I could already tell the illustrator was a white man who’s seen like max 10 Asian people in his life probs.
The cover art for the first book was cool, so I get the sense that the artist showed their best work but it slowly degraded with deadlines. And then the first artist didn't return for the second, so the second novel was basically a different artist forced to mimic someone else's style.

I’m enjoying wires and nerve rn but the artist for it cracks me up Because like Marissa Meyer must’ve sent them descriptions of the characters to design with but it’s like:
MM: So Cinder is wasian with light brown hair and she’s a cyborg with a metal hand and leg
Illustrator: say no more *makes cinder’s whole arm metal and gives her black hair and a small ass forehead*
MM: Kai is like the handsomest prince in the galaxy, he’s East Asian.
Illustrator: okay I think I know what you’re looking for *draws a potato with lines for eyes so u know he’s Asian*
MM: Thorne has brown hair, he’s roguishly handsome, full of charm, probably broad shouldered, maybe Han Solo meets Flynn Rider
Illustrator: don’t worry I got u boo *twinkifies your Thorne and makes him blonde for some reason?*
MM: and Kinney is like Iko’s love interest, he’s very handsome Like THE MOST handsome man on Luna—
Illustrator: no need to finish you sentence, I’ve got the man right here

Wires and Nerve, Volume 2: Gone Rogue
Author: Marissa Meyer
Artist: Stephen Gilpin
Book: 2/2
Genre: science fiction, graphic novel
Summary: Gone Rogue is the second book in the Wires and Nerve graphic duology, which follows The Lunar Chronicles series. The second half of this story follows Iko on her hunt for Alpha Lysander Steele, the leader of a pack of rogue wolf-soldiers who are rampaging Earthen cities. To maintain the peace between Earth and Luna, Iko must return these soldiers to Luna. However, Steele will return on one condition: that Cinder reverses the bioengineered mutations inflicted on the soldiers.
Review: First, I must begin by stating that The Lunar Chronicles is one of my favorite series. You do not need to read this series to enjoy the Wires and Nerve duology, but it will help you understand the story and the background of the characters. If you have not read the series, I highly recommend it! Shoot me a DM/inbox/ask if you do read it, I’d love to hear about it!! Graphic novels are not usually the type of book I gravitate toward, but this series has made me appreciate the artwork, story structure, and the fun that readers get to experience when reading graphic novels. This story was a quick read, and was exciting and adventurous. I enjoyed visiting the characters again and seeing how Meyer evolved her fictional world.
Rating: 5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Keep reading🌙

love marissa for tackling the systemic issues of the lunar monarchy, lunar gift, cyborg laws, etc instead of just acting like instating a new ruler would solve everything
