Not to be as oblivious as Shiki, but what was Geto getting at with his questions to her? When he asks if shes bothered about being asked to kill, and she goes not really, what's the context she(and I) are missing? Shiki gets the excuse that she's too young to understand the underlying meaning but I don't 😂😭. is it bc it's unsettling for a little girl to be so nonchalant about murder?

What's with the whole saving satoru and shiki bit, how in the world is killing a bunch of non sorcerers gonna save those two. Don't worry shiki, bc I sure don't understand geto's actions either LMAO. This is why I'd never survive in political situations bc social things just fly right over my head.

Hello! So, there's a few things going on here haha, unfortunately which were not really elaborated on in the story:

As we all know, Geto's mindset has been pretty conflicted and in a lot of turmoil recently. Unlike in canon, where it was solely 'non-sorcerers' that he laser-focused on, in zenith of stars he's also become uncomfortably aware of something Very Wrong with the way the jujutsu world does things. How they shove unsuspecting children onto a sorcerer's path without even batting an eye does not sit well with him, either.

When Geto asks Shiki, “If you were able to choose freely, would you still decide to become a sorcerer?” It's mainly because he wants to know if there was any possibility of Shiki just... being able to live as a normal little girl. Because he remembers how Nanami had described his little niece to them before, and he remembers the first time he met Shiki himself -just a tiny little girl clinging first to Satoru, and then to Nanami. A sweet, quiet little thing.

Who then turned into a creature who saw nothing wrong with holding onto a decapitated head, sitting in a pool of blood.

'If you were not forced onto a sorcerer's path by the Gojo Clan. Would things have turned out differently?'

This then leads into his subsequent question:

"Does it really not bother you that you’re being asked by your clan to kill?”

This question. It's a question that's more important to Geto than he lets on.

Somewhat similar to Nanami, he's also having trouble reconciling the image of a sweet little girl to an unrepentant killer. And the thing is, he's genuinely concerned about her. Geto has first-hand experience with the jarring moments he experiences with Satoru's worldviews, after all. The blithe way his friend reacts to blood and violence and the like. He's concerned that Shiki is going down the exact same path, given recent happenings and her lack of reaction to it all. Is she just repressing everything? Is there something he can do to help?

"Not really," Shiki says.

(Ah. Is she... already that far gone?)

It's not even like Shiki is a cold, unfeeling robot, either. She smiles. She laughs and cries. She cares for Nanami, she gets upset when her uncle is unhappy. She likes playing with Panda and doesn't mind running barefoot through the tall grass in the school mountains with him for bug-hunting.

Which makes her nonchalant answer all the more terrifying to Geto. Because despite everything, she's just a kid.

A kid who doesn't see any problem with killing, and that raises some major red flags in his mind.

Is this what growing up in a sorcery clan does to people? Satoru... was it the same for Satoru as well?

The duality of Shiki the innocent child and Shiki the natural killer, the duality of Satoru the cheerful friend and Satoru the merciless sorcerer... Geto has a front-row seat to it all, and this disturbs him greatly. It disturbs him even more that the two of them can't see anything wrong with it.

Geto blames this on the Gojo Clan. On the existing system in the jujutsu world that focuses on making the most out of each and every sorcerer that they can field, in humanity's endless fight against curses.

If there are no curses, there would be no need for any sorcerers. If there's no need for any sorcerers, then there wouldn't have to be any more Satorus or Shikis.

Curses are born from non-sorcerers.

If Geto kills all the non-sorcerers, then he'll be able to rid the world of curses.

... So yeah, that's the general gist of things here haha. All of which sails straight over Shiki's head, and Satoru's as well.

Shiki's answer only confirmed to Geto that something needed to change, a realization which he was already on the way to affirming on his own (see Geto POV in interlude 1).

The "answer that Geto needed" to his question would've been some hint of discomfort, or hesitation in Shiki's response. Because it would've shown him that Shiki wasn't "broken." It would've restored some of Geto's faith in the Gojo Clan, and the higher ups of the jujutsu world. It would've given him hope, and it would be entirely possible that Geto would later decide that change is best enacted from the inside, rather as a rogue curse user. He might be more callous towards non-sorcerers than he used to be, but not outright 'slaughter them all,' in terms of his attitude. Which may put him at odds with Satoru sometimes, but they'd still be working together to change things in the jujutsu world.

But that's only a 'maybe' of what might've been possible. ;3

I have started to accept I am a bit more (re a lot more) psychologically unstable than I thought for a long time and man…. I’m tired of it

Vice dorm leaders find you drunk

Trey

He found you drunk in Ramshackle when he was coming by to drop off some of his famous baked goods. Grim basically yelled at him to take care of you and went off to bed early haha.

At first, he laughs, trying to take some pictures of you with his phone but he soon gets worried about your health and moves to help you get off from the floor. You were busy rolling around and singing a song that you didn't notice it was him helping you up and trying to get you to your room.

"H-hey, hey you there," you pinch at his cheek. He looks over at you with an amused face. "T-there's this guy *hick* that I'm dating...wow he's so sweet *laughs* like the treats he makes...oh you have to see him he's so hot too," you ramble off, almost sliding off of him. He catches you before you fall over.

"Oh really?" he chuckles. "Tell me more, what's your favorite thing about him?" he finds all of this super funny (and really cute). Not to mention he will tease you lightly about this the next day.

Ruggie (there's no vice dorm leader in Savanaclaw but he's basically doing that role)

He has no idea how you managed to find alcohol in the kitchen but here you were, with him late at night, drunk while he was finishing making a late night snack.

"Hey hey, y/n, don't fall over I got you," he tries his best to be gentle with you. He doesn't like the pungent smell of alcohol but he thinks how you're stumbling around is a bit funny. He helps you walk all the way to Ramshackle.

"Waitwaitwait! Before you go..." you tell him at the couch where he leaves you in your dorm. He stops and looks at you, his ears perked up in curiosity. "T-there's the real cutie in Savanaclaw...R-Ruggie, y'know? Whenever he laughs *hick* he's so adorable I wanna hug him all the time...oh he's a great chef too and like, o-oh man he's just the best," you ramble and giggle to yourself.

"Shishishi, I didn't know you liked me that much," he leans in and kisses you on the cheek. He would be lying if he said he wasn't a bit flustered by your words, but he will be the one making you embarrassed tomorrow by teasing you about it.

Jade

You drank something that Floyd gave you at the Mostro Lounge, and now you were drunk. Jade scolded his brother about it and apologized to Azul for your drunken state. Thankfully the lounge was empty because it was past its opening hours.

Jade carried you bridal style back to Ramshackle. He offered you a guest room at Octavinelle but you seemed adamant on returning so he just picked you up and started to walk. That was when you suddenly began talking.

"H-have you met J-Jade? T-the really sexy guy from Octavinelle with the beautiful smile? H-he's my boyfriend and...and wow he's just so cool! He can swim, he's super smart, a-and I love how we *hick* we can go ex-explore mountains together...you have to see him!" you giggled. You had no idea who you were talking to apparently.

"Yes, I'm sure he's wonderful," Jade smiles at you, oh he was going to have so much fun teasing you about this in the next week. But if you looked closely at him, you didn't just boost his ego, you also made him blush.

Jamil

Why are you drunk? How did you get drunk? What happened? Jamil has so many questions but he has no idea how to get you to answer them as he is dragging you out of the party that you were in while hanging around another dorm.

He's muttering to himself about how he should've went to the party with you to make sure you were safe. Thankfully, it seems that you weren't harmed, just tipsy. While he's busy thinking about how to help you the most for tomorrow's possible hangover, you suddenly tug on his shirt while stumbling around next to him.

"H-hey, you look a lot like m-my boyfriend, Jamil. Y'know him? The super smart, super talented guy? You *hick* you need to hear him sing, he's majestic. Oh and his looks?! Man and I t-thought that the deserts were HOT-" "You're drunk stop."

Jamil's trying to remain calm as you continue rambling on about how much you love him, but he can't help the searing blush he has on his cheeks. His heart races and and feels butterflies in his stomach. Sure, you were boosting his ego, but he would be lying if he said he wasn't flustered. He tries to get you to your dorm faster now so he doesn't faint from being loved so much haha.

Rook

You were drunk in Rook's room because he somehow smuggled alcohol into the school grounds :/. But now, he has made a mental note that he shouldn't give you the whole bottle and think that you would be fine.

He offered for you to sleep on his bed as he slept on his desk. He was busy writing poems and finishing off the last of a book he was reading when he suddenly heard you talking.

"O-oh...oh man h-have you seen R-Rook? Y-you can't *hick* miss him, he's the one with flawless h-hair and like...the prettiest eyes. He-he's a master with words and like, wow he can shoot arrows, he has *hick* perfect aim or something. He's so cool, I l-love him so much, h-he's my boyfriend y'know?" you ramble and roll over on your side so you're facing him. Apparently you forgot who you were talking to.

He sighs and smiles at you. "Mon amour, my love for you is unending as well," he rests his chin on his hand and watches you with loving eyes. He thinks you're cute, but the fact that you're just rambling about how much you love him makes it all the sweeter to see you. He still worries about your health tomorrow though haha.

Lilia

You two were drinking together because he too is a menace and snuck some alcohol against school rules haha. Sadly, he overestimated your alcohol tolerance and gave you too much. Now he has to figure out whether to help you get back to your dorm or let you stay in his room.

He ends up letting you stay, helping you lie down comfortably on the bed before he goes back to his desk. He doesn't have to sleep thankfully, and he wants to make sure he can tend to your health so you don't have a harsh headache tomorrow. Everything was pretty calm until he heard you talking about someone that you thought was "a handsome cutie."

"Y-y'know the super cute guy i-in Diasomnia? H-he's my boyfriend, L-Lilia, t-the one with the r-really cool hair? Wow *hick* h-he's so good at th-the guitar a-and like, s-singing, h-have you heard him? Man, I-I'm so lucky to h-have such a c-cool guy..." you hug a pillow tightly while closing your eyes. Lilia looks at you with a shocked expression before his face softens into a smile.

"Y/n, you're drunk," he laughs. "But, tell me, what else is so cool about him?" he teases. He will also tease you endlessly about everything you said haha, but he did think you were super cute. He probably has a recording of you talking about how amazing his gaming skills are too lol.

Hi Bingo! I just wanted to say that I've been lurking and looking at your art for your lancer campaign for a while now and I think it's so cool! You've kinda inspired me to check out the system for myself too! I hope it's not too much trouble/making you retread anything you've talked about before, but I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on the system and how it's worked out for your campaign! I really love mecha stuff, but I think the genre can be pretty rife with militarism that I'm not super into. I get the sense though that you've been able to find a good way to slot these really cool characters into the setting and focus on their interactions while also getting the fun of that sweet sweet mech combat. My inquiry is very low stakes haha, so nw if you don't have time to gather all your thoughts (I know that if I was tasked to talk about my own campaigns my head would burst into flames just trying to sift through what I'd want to say :P) Anyway, just a little friendly wave to you to say your art is very inspirational, and keep up the great work!

OH WOW this is . whuhh. WOW! sorry im like. wtff. i mean i ramble about my characters a lot but i didn't think anyone else actually gave a fuck which is completely ok, i just WHUHH..!!! holy shit. excitement aside, i get where you're coming from. honestly i was never into the mecha genre, but lancer rpg really made me realize how cool it is! like im not a really technical guy, and i feel like lancer is VERY strategy-heavy in combat; unless you know what you're doing and what everything does, you can easily get overwhelmed with all the features and all the things to consider in the math. for me its a lot because i struggle with spatial understanding and any sort of mathematics. that's my only real gripe on the system, but that might also just be every other system as well. it's more of a personal issue than that of the system, my friends all picked it up super quick. as for the genre, yeah, i find militaristic shit a drag and mecha has the same feel to me. its got a layer of professionalism and seriousness i don't enjoy, nor wish to play along with, so i get what you mean yeah. thankfully my friend who dms the campaign is just. Holy fuck; she just has a huuuge extra care for character stories and weaving them into the narrative she explores. so really, its her i've to thank for making mecha stuff FUN for me. lancer can certainly run hand-in-hand with militaristic-focused rp, i was in a oneshot with that sole focus and while it was interesting, without that interesting narrative stuff you kind of lose steam, but ive grown so fond of dog days cuz of how my friend lets our characters develop AND helps them do that. that and the way she sets up the story, just. FUUUUCK. the military is an afterthought in what is a fight against time and para-causality sinking its teeth into what little sanity we have. we fight against something that is a victim and a perpetrator. we're the worst people to be tasked to be saving an entire planet too, but here we are. as cheesy as it is, it's all about who you play with. thats the feel i get about most systems. honestly why im so ehhh about playing with strangers, when i'd rather play with people i like. all systems strike me as more of a tool; its the way you use em yk? the experience you get from them are more reflective of who you're telling a story with (or fighting alongside, there's no right way to play. i just really like narrative storytelling). so really, ive to thank my friends, especially @spaginithethird who introduced me to lancer in the first place as a dm!!!!!!!!!! TO A LOT OF SYSTEMS ACTUALLY shes rlly knowledgeable abt this stuff and very very very sweet too o7 so yeah really, its a really fun system BUT to me, i wouldnt be playing lancer if i didn't have a narrative to go by and follow with people i like. i am always sayin this but its my favorite thing when it comes to ttrpgs

These two years were really intense for me. I already started 2020 with my mental health a disaster (to keep it simple haha) the beginning of high school... a global pandemic.... well you definitely can see where i am going. In 2020, I ended up driving some friends away. And by the fact i stayed all the time at home bc of the quarantine, I lost contact with a lot of people. Dealing with school, dealing with my family, dealing with the end of my friendships and all those changes together, made me become more and more isolated. In resume, I lived these two years with some depressive episodes and anxiety crisis (wow haha this got heavy quick huh!!)

And then in July of 2020, I saw this silly frog show in my timeline. In 2019, I was already interested in the story but unfortunately, couldn't catch up bc it didn't aired in my country and finding links for it was HARD! But then I discovered s2 was airing and thats when it my love for this show began. I started to see myself more and more in the characters, SPECIALLY THE CALAMITY TRIO, and all their personal journeys were so much like mine that I couldn't help but imagine them going through the same things as me. It helped me feel less lonely and cope with everything. It was my safe space when things where too overwhelming.

Now, in 2022, with life going back to normal, while I was watching the last few episodes of s3, I noticed something.

Things changed. It's my final year in high school, it's the year I begin to do uni applications. A cycle in my life is ending at the same time the show is ending and God, I can't be more grateful for having had this amazing cartoon to help me overcome a little of all this, because while things are not good.... or.. TOTALLY good yet.... things are becoming better!!

Seeing these characters that I related so hard to the point I was anxious about their endings, changing and growning up, made me realized I changed and grew up too!

These characters are moving on with their lives and so am i!!

It's hard to accept when a good thing ends, but I am glad for everything it done for me. I met a lot of amazing people in this fandom that kept me company, my art style developed SUPER fast by how much fanart I made and I gained a lot of followers too!

Anyways I am just rambling now because I am an emotional mess... really. So thank you, amphibia, for everything.

Both were very heavily referenced from the original scenes with my twist on them so it's probably nothing at all, I'm just so fascinated with the differences!!

I tried a different style of lineless that isn't the one I normally use and I think it looks so much better for this, and her expression and the shading got much more confident and sure

And I mean it was super heavily referenced to clarify both times I remember tracing the original before going over a second time in my style

But I think I've got the hang of it now... so I might start posting human art soon alongside my cats haha!

What draws you to the genre? What is it about writing whump that appeals to you?

ANyway--

I've always been drawn to violent and angsty 'what if' scenarios, even before i really knew what whump was! One of my first major fixations that was super whumpy was a conflict between Kurama and his past ex-thief partner in Yu Yu Hakusho. There was a really dark fic that posited what if Kurama had been chased down and captured by said ex and it lit my brain up like 'wow!' And then I got older, read Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trillogy and went "holy shit you can have a bad ending?? Heroes can FAIL???" - which was right before everyone jumped on the Ultra Dark Fantasy bandwagon with all the edgy glory that was implied and flooded the market.

And then I wrote my first torture scene because I like my villains to be hardcore and to go through with their threats! (My bestie's look of horror was fantastic when I read it to her on video chat lol)

And then I was first kinda introduced to whump through the BBC Merlin fandom. Boy we enjoyed beating the poor warlock up. All the angst, yummy!

It took me a long while to actually join the whump community though. I joined in a lower part of my life where I'd lost friends for loving my darker side of stories and incompatible access needs. I joined a whump server, dove into exploring the terms on tumblr, made a bunch of friends and now I'm here! WOw that's a lot of rambling for just one of the questions haha oops.

Anyways, what really appeals to me about whump is the catharsis and exploration of humanity's darker sides. The emotional fallout of those darker spaces. I really like the angst haha it just really appeals to me, even if i do enjoy a good nursing back to health every so often (even if I personally suck at that writing wise because it makes my brain go blank from a lack of ideas and knowledge)

I really like the kind of rising action of the violence, and then the catharis of the emotional and physical fallout from that action. That surge of fear and having a character squirm to the malicious delight of a whumper.

I've also just always been kinda drawn to the power dynamic, I think. There's some really fun interesting power plays that happen in whump that are interesting.

angst, haha. hmm. well i've been told my style is very visual? (which is funny to me bc i have aphantasia so like... i don't do mental images lol.) i love alliteration and repetition - i think a lot of my published works have some form of repetition especially. i'm sure i have more, but thats the stuff off the top of my head.

coffee shop au!!! i love a good coffee shop au and i read and talk abt it all the time but i don't think i've ever written one?? gosh i need to remedy that. also chatfic.

Then This is the Way it's Meant to Be, post S3 juno steel fic. the alien pov of the Ruby was super fun to write, and i've always had a soft spot for rewriting canon scenes as character studies or from different povs (most of my first fics were exactly that!)

everything written by avoidingavoidance if i'm honest haha. hard to recall and pick any singular fic, but i quickly scoured my bookmarks (i dont bookmark nearly enough shit smh) and These Broken-Hearted Beats by Grimmseye jumped out at me - the non-linearity!! the slowly unfolding mystery and horror! the nods to and utilization of canon elements! and how they say so much with so little without rambling on fucking forever. love it.

oh gosh thats a hard one. well, uh, English first of all lmao? fanfic has been with me since i started learning english (not my mother tongue) and yeah i've been fluent for years and years now but still. other than that, hm. probably pacing? I still get wayy purple and drag on sometimes but. plus, i've learned to do more than single-scene one-shots!

Now that I'm thinking of Logan Lerman, I'm reminded of the movie 3:10 to Yuma, which I think is one of the greatest movies ever made. Also the most homoerotic film I've ever seen. So completely unexpected the depth of the dynamics between all the characters. I went in expecting mindless explosions and action, but wow, truly heart-wrenching the love quadrangle.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

Russell Crowe plays reckless, badass, lawless outlaw Ben Wade who pillages and robs towns mercilessly. Christian Bale plays goody two shoes rancher Dan Evans who assists in Wade's arrest. Evans seems at first motivated to bring Wade to justice by escorting him to the 3:10 to Yuma train, which will take him to jail, only by his need for money, but his true motives are much more emotionally complex. It turns out that his young son, William Evans, played by Logan Lerman, idolizes Ben Wade. He collects newspaper clippings of all Wade's activities and hides them like illicit pornos. He thinks Wade is the glamorous, sexy, badass rockstar of his time, and his dad is fully aware of this and wishes his son would feel such a way about him. William even defies his dad's orders to stay home and follows him and Wade for the journey. Perceptive as Wade is, he quickly catches on to the dynamic and says, "Your boy ain't protecting you. He's following me." Haha hot man knows he's got it going on.

We also have deranged, feral, obsessed, brimstone and fire in his eyes, Charlie Prince:

Seriously.... all the men flocking around Wade are crushing hard on him:

Surprisingly, in the long ass journey to the train station, the men have campfire sleepovers, and hotel sleepovers and all these intimate conversations and flirty tussle moments from all the tension, "I like this side of you," says Wade with Evans on top of him... ohh la la... and Wade gets to know Evans more emotionally deeply than probably even Evans' wife. He learns that Evans made the sacrifice to stay on a dying drought-impoverished ranch to save his son's life from tuberculosis. His son is too busy worshipping Wade to be grateful for anything his dad does. And Wade sees how desperately and pathetically Evans tries to win his son's admiration and Wade becomes surprisingly sympathetic towards Evans. Wade's own father abandoned him, so Evans eventually becomes a sort of idealized father figure to Wade, the father he wish he had. And so now you have this mindfuck of emotions where son idolizes Wade, father wants to be Wade and Wade wants Evans to be his father and right hand man is screaming at every hotel room, "boss you in there??!?! You in there with another man?!?!?!?" OMG the tension.

Wade eventually is so won over by his new idealized father figure that he decides to help him become a hero is his real son's eyes. Wade decides he's going to made sure he gets on the train and that the son sees his father is the last man standing that brought this terrible outlaw to justice. His right hand man is not on the same page and has no idea of this secret fatherly bonding contract that has happened so he is still dead set on destroying everything in his path to his boss. In the last scene, we see Wade furiously charging towards the train, dodging the raining gunfire of his own men trying to save him and putting himself on the train. The son is watching voyeuristically. Probably wondering what super powers of persuasion his father must have to have made Wade willingly jail himself.

Then, just as Wade gets onto the train and turns around and has this heart warming moment with Evans, "you did it!" (totally like All Might saying to Deku, "you too can be a hero!" Just win the super villain to your side and get him to do all the work for you), fanatical right hand man mercilessly shoots Evans.

Son is horrified... this is real life... it's not cool like in the sensationalized stories.

Wade has just lost another father figure. He remorselessly kills his entire team of henchmen.

William runs to his dad and tells him he succeeded, he's a hero as his dad dies and then he points his gun at Wade, but it's like Deku trying to kill evil All Might and he can't.

Wade has "won." He can ride off into the sunset as these cowboy stories go. He's a free man. But he puts himself on the train and jails himself, his last hat tip to Evans and his last message to William of who he should idolize.

Beautiful.

What are your favorite bits of localization in FF14? ☺️ I'm not sure if I'm asking for anything specific ... I just want to see you ramble I guess, haha! It would be a nice change from the usual "why did they leave this part out" lol. And there are valid instances where you have to question some loc choices, to be sure. But hearing that localization is your jam... I wanted to know what you love!

What a good question! I had to wait until I was on my computer to answer so I could type faster, hahaha.

I got into FFXIV specifically because of its localization, so I have a different relationship with it compared to other games I've played. I'm really interested in the nuances and challenges of game localization and had heard this one was competent, so I actually initially just bought myself the Encyclopedia Eorzea because I didn't want to play an MMO, lmao. TL;DR below!

I was really impressed with the consistency of the writing quality within the book and how clean and expansive everything was. I got super invested in the plot section of the book somewhere around the last "act" of the 1.0 story arc. (Louisoux was my original favorite FFXIV character, RIP king.) The first book covers the plot sections from the true beginning of the game (1.0) to the end of Heavensward.

I started playing because the format of the Encyclopedia Eorzea is an actual "real" encyclopedia, so it's written from the perspective of an in-world historian. It's not narrative, so I didn't get to see character dialogue, which I decided I had to know about. What do the characters talk like? How do they sound?

I watched some cutscenes (Heavensward onward only), and by then, Endwalker had a trailer out and the hype levels were high, so I decided to play the free trial and... well.

ANYWAY, WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE LOCALIZATION: HERE WE GOOOO

Mostly, I really like the direction they chose for the localization in-world -- using modes of speech fitting this type of fantasy setting, but also defining those modes of speech so that the characters all speak in their own ways.

Further, the localization team's stance on the localization is my preferred variety: they aim to provide the intended end experience. If your feelings as a player are supposed to be "wow, cool spell name!" when playing in Japanese, you should have the same experience playing in another language, even if this necessitates changing the name of something that may already be in English, etc.

They also separate things based on their... idk, in-game perspectives. Like, there's text that's canon to the game (signs your character can read, dialogue, etc. that's fully "in-world"), and then there's player interface text (menus, quest names) that you see, but the character doesn't, so they can have different localization styles for those things. I think it provides a lot of brightness and levity and helps to balance out how "heavy" the in-world text can feel in places without casual English.

I think it's all crafted with a lot of skill, charm, and honest interest, and so it's definitely one of my favorite game localizations, period.

Also, some of my favorite highly specific instances include quest names like "Quake Me Up Before You O'Ghomoro", but also heavy-hitter sections like Myst's last speech in the DRK quests and sooo many other beautifully-worded similar pieces. If I list them, this post will be like twenty more paragraphs. Sometimes I just want to say the quotes out loud so I can hear and feel the words, you know? Extremely good. I love words.)

Vitrual King of Prism cheering in JM Umeda 3/18/2023

Well, that was pretty fun! 

Unlike most Japanese events, screenshots/photos were actually allowed this time! (There was even a camera function, although I haven’t figured out where the photos actually end up yet... so...) 

So, here’s Junta Terashima explaining that the future of the King of Prism metaverse is virtual bathing.

A lot of the talk show was just like wow virtual cheering shows are possible now, isn’t the metaverse cool? But after all this was a free event, probably to promote JM Umeda, so that’s understandable. 

The topic voted on by fans was for Junta Terashima to discuss a secret that he can tell now that 7 years have passed. And he was like...  but I have no secrets! He’s already spilled his guts at the various theater greetings. But he did talk about how he initially auditioned for several different characters and came in thinking he was going to read for Kakeru when they wanted him to read for Shin too and he was not prepared. He especially had no idea what Shin Mugen Hug was supposed to mean. (”They have special moves!?”) 

A fan sent in a message talking about how they went to different theaters all over the country to see his greeting shows, and he in turn talked about how different King of Prism showings can be in different places. (I felt that too.) Each region sometimes reacts differently to characters and/or has their own infamous local cheering ojisan, lots of theaters have homemade decorations, etc. He said something about the people in Kawasaki being super into Shin for whatever reason. (Regrettably I never got to see King of Prism there haha.)

At the end, Junta went on a ramble about how King of Prism has evolved with technology so as every new platform comes out, King of Prism will be there, and that possibility is nice to think about.

As for the actual cheering show, it was OK. Unfortunately, I gave up on cheering soon after it started because, for whatever reason, the screen seemed to be out of sync for me. Like, I’d hear people yelling things about five seconds BEFORE they happened, and reloading the area didn’t change anything. I think maybe there was shared audio between the cell phone and computer areas, and the cell phone screening started earlier or something like that. But still, it was a cool concept and I liked feeling as though I got to attend a 7th anniversary cheering show after all. 

Oh yeah, and when Yukinojo showed up there was a whole chorus of YO! (People imitating the sound effect from the PriZoom cheering soundboard almost exactly.) Hearing that, I wouldn’t be surprised if PriZoom-isms have bled into real-life cheering shows, and that would be hilarious (and amazing).

So anyway, hopefully they do more of these. It looks like the platform can host paid events too, so it will be interesting to see what it’s used for in the future. I’ve never been that interested in metaverses, but if it gets me to Japan-only anime events... bring it on I guess!

I think Shino is cool, but I don't think I can deny that he is exactly the type of person who'd be especially humbled when he finally got a job in customer service in Modern Settings.

Not because he acts like a complete jerk. He's not gonna yell at a cashier who made an honest mistake or waitstaff that were a bit too slow (gags aside of course but Id just have walked out tbh). But he will probably be very annoyed and do some disgruntled rambling unecessarily, simply because the employees aren't performing (what he perceives in his mind is) their job at 100%.

I wanna say it's because he's canonly from a Noble Clan, and he's had to learn special skills from a young age, and a lot was expected of him, and he was also probably spoon fed a certain mentality and view on things, being from said family. That pretty much translates to Modern AU as Shino becoming disciplined and conditioned to act and speak in the ways his family expects him to act and speak and stuff like that. Like yes, making friends (hopefully?) would help tone that down some but you can't help but retain some conditioning, unfortunately haha.

And one of those things he does keep is an idea along the lines that most customer service jobs are actually very simple and most anyone can do them. Which is why he wonders why some people seem to fuck up so bad every once in a while whenever he decides to order food or is shopping for something or other, maybe even on the phone.

So maybe in a Modern Setting type AU he'd be reluctant to apply to any customer service job, especially at a fast food chain or a smaller convenient store, but he would if he really needed the money. It's not that it's "hard", it's just that he's Shino Aburame, but this will just "have to do for now".

But after a week or maybe just a few days, Shino would regret any tone he took with any person who's ever worked a job like that and more. Maybe he wasn't the worst customer ever, but he makes it a point to not be a bad customer from then on because wow this really fucking sucks some days, doesn't it??? And in retrospect, he is just disgusted by the way some of his family members have acted, especially his grandparents but that's being old and bitter for ya. The super cool thing is that he will now call them and the rest of his family on their bullshit when they act terrible. He's never caused a scene as a customer himself, but can and will absolutely cause a total scene in defense of staff to shame and embarrass the crap out of his unbearable family members when they act like assholes. Shibi, while he doesn't act like an asshole, was always more complacent and quiet. But the second someone talks ill of Shino, he gets fiercely protective of his son. Shino's had the experience, he knows what he's talking about, no one better even think of disrespecting his son.

So to me, Shino is a snooty little goodie two shoes rich kid who genuinely repents for his snootiness when he gets older and realizes he grew up with a certain amount of privilege but also gets angrier and angrier that he was raised to be so snooty in the first place and has the spite and the attitude to start shit with the family members that stay snooty because come the fuck on!!!

How would you describe your style?

Hm. That's always a hard question for me. Mine is a bit more cartoony and certainly takes liberties when it comes to how realistic it is, but at the same time I try to get things close to accurate (such with anatomy and detail and whatnot).

I can't find words that pinpoint what my style looks like, but I can certainly find the inspirations that got it to where it is now. (Anime and various animations!)

Since we're speaking of my style though, fun fact: I CAN'T for the life of me imitate other people's art styles. It'll always look really similar to my regular art style, just changed up a bit. I see challenges were people imitate different art styles and realize, "Wow! That's cool! How the HELL did they do that!!"

17. What do you love getting compliments about?

When it comes to art? Anything, to be honest. Hell, I'm happy if people reblog my art without any tags. (Although, once or twice, I've gotten an "inspo" or a keysmash or a slight ramble and that really made my day.)

What I like most though is feedback on my OCs. I'm honestly rather bad at character design, and I love knowing what people think about them. Alas, people hardly see my OC art...when I do post it. </3

22. What inspires you?

MANY THINGS, my friend. Some things have made lifelong shifts on my art style (ex: the shading under the chin technique I use is derived from the anime Black Clover!), but most often, I get inspired to draw a specific thing.

Music often inspires me- especially vocaloid, and especially if there's art featured in the video. One of my favorite vocaloid songs is Reckless Battery Burns and I'm obsessed with the MV in it.

TV and movies inspire me, too. I adore the Owl House and have noticed some completely unintentional similarities between Hunter and one of my own characters! Also, bringing back Black Clover, there's a lot of worldbuilding from Masked inspired from that anime.

Books inspire me too! A good example of that is my Shapeshifter/Badgeseller 1984 comic. Another series that gives me inspiration is the Giver series by Lois Lowry (not just the first book, the entire thing, all four books). Ooh, and also the Pandava series (or the Aru Shah series, I don't fully know what to call it). Writing is cool! :)

Secret question: 20. A piece from this year that you're really proud of!

Most of my art this year is Shadow Rift, haha...let me see what I can find.

^ This one is a good starting point! This one was me playing around with lighting. I found a new technique to use with my art program, and was just messing around with it. So I paid less attention to the background and colors to do so. Here's a fraction of a screenshot I took when I realized just how good it was!

I was going to compare it to another one of Shadow Rift's pieces, but I realized that discussion would be too long. And would ruin the magic of the piece I was comparing. Whatever.

Next one has bright colors!

I was mostly playing around with colors and proportions on this one, and I really like the turnout. This is the rare piece of Doodle OC art. Her name is Krystll, and YES I will infodump about her if asked.

And, for the final thing I'm super proud of, that Shapeshifter/Badgeseller 1984 comic. Go look at it again, if you want to. :)

Dark Road Thoughts

I’ve been super busy; but I’ve got some time and I’ve digested what happened in DR. I’ll put everything under a Keep Reading for those who use mobile and those who don’t have tags blacklisted.

What I will say here is: good story. I just hope it gets the UX/Back cover treatment. If you are brave enough to read past the Keep Reading; be warned, its very rambly as I’m not great with organising my thoughts properly.

I’m actually really surprised I predicted the story to some extent!

I said in my Dark Road Daemons post:

“Learning that there was a character called Baldr- I think I know where this story is going. Baldr is going to be killed/struck down- and I suspect it’s going to be Xehanort doing it. As it’s Baldr- A Norse god so beloved he’s said to give off radiant light, killed by Loki that brought upon the beginnings of Ragnarok. How Xehanort will do it, willingly or not, I don’t know, but the story of Dark Road is still new, and there’s lots of possibilities.”

Well; it seems that the roles of ‘Loki’/Xehanort and Baldr were somewhat reversed! with Baldr being ‘antagonist’ and ‘Loki’ not. It was kind of hard to watch Baldr being chained up like that, and even more so when Xehanort did strike him down- almost without hesitation it seemed.

The upper classmen were lots of fun too; I think my favourite of them was Vidar. when I saw a name pop up, I googled it to see what Norse myth they were from; with Vidar being the one who will strike the heart of Fenrir in revenge of a slain Odin. I liked that, that characterisation was turned into the Vidar we got, with wanting to purge the world and take vengeance on the Darkness for slaying his friends.

Staying on the Norse theme; as soon as I found out Baldr’s sister’s name, that's when I started to feel nervous, since in the myth its Hoder that kills Baldr by Loki’s doing-- and we almost saw that take place when Hoder placed herself in Xehanort’s heart and confronted Baldr- only then to attack him.

but wow; I’m getting way too excited about Norse myth and Parallels there's a few more I could list off, I think!

I will say; I really, really like Bragi. He was on my team a lot mainly because of his protect ability. I thought he was a cool character...  But as soon as he said ‘As If’ I was ready to throw my phone across the room. I couldn’t believe Luxu hijacked him. I don’t even know if he was Luxu all along or he hijacked Bragi in the world of the dead. Now if there’s a new character I like, I’m going to have trust issues because I don’t know if that’s just Luxu hijacking another person or not, haha... There’s so many moments I liked; from them exploring familiar worlds, to the class interacting with one another; or the constant making-fun-of Eraqus, it was great. I’m not usually an emotional person- but I did have a catch in my throat at the end where Eraqus also bought flowers to the graves... and that Xehanort said that he heard him crying all night for a week... and seeing them all get struck down by Baldr... it hurt, especially Vor, since I grew attached to her; it hurt when she left Eraqus and Xehanort with Vidar, and it hurt when she died.

BUT; getting to a scene I was excited to see- Vanitas actually talking to Xehanort! and it seems Xehanort wasn’t just using Vanitas as a ‘pure darkness’ to make a X-blade, but also to see if he could track the other darknesses down. AND my suspicions are also raised that Vanitas just wants to be his own person; Darkness or not, I hope that means that in the future, he’ll be alongside the ‘Heros’; since it'd be hypocritical for Sora to want Roxas to be his own person, but not Vanitas- just saying. 

There’s a million other things I’d like to type about, but honestly, I think I’ve rambled enough.

One more thing: Master Odin sucks and if he were a better person, Baldr would never have opened his heart to darkness.
