Here's a collection of Wind Waker and Spirit Tracks doodles I've done on and off the past few days. I don't know why my brain decided to branch back to them after the Tears of the Kingdom trailer, but here we are.
For the Wind Waker doodles, I gave Link a scarf to match Tetra's as well as a combination of his two in-game outfits. Tetra and Link also both have scars from their adventure. Tetra's is from falling into the tree after feeding herself from the Helmaroc King, and Link's is from when Ganondorf attacks him at the top of the Forsaken Fortress. I gave Tetra's dress a redesign to moreso resemble the ocean she loves so much! I also made the bandages on her right arm (the one the Triforce of Wisdom would usually appear on) more bandages to somewhat resemble Sheik's.
I imagine Link and Tetra are really close, given the bond they seem to have in Phantom Hourglass. Link has gotten into the habit of calling Tetra "Captain" after joining her crew, but will also slip up and call her Tetra when the two are having fun. He never calls her Zelda, though, upon seeing her demeanor when the rest of the crew does so. Given how expressive Link is and how open Tetra is, they definitely get along but are quick to make it clear when they disagree with the other. Speaking of which, I absolutely love drawing The Hero of Winds' goofy little faces.
As for Spirit Tracks, I had a little difficulty deciding on color schemes. However, I settled on a slightly detailed conductor uniform for Link and a ghostly, phantom-inspired dress for Princess Zelda. They look somewhat resemblant of Tetra and The Hero of Winds with hair and faces due to their identical appearances in original design, but I wanted to be sure their differing personalities were evident.
I see Zelda and Link being as close as their predecessors, but with their different personalities they're definitely more likely to show it regardless of who is around. The game makes Link quick to blush, making for obvious embarrassment. Zelda, on the other hand, is pretty affectionate yet doesn't seem to notice the flustered mess at all. My headcanon usually follows the ending where Link becomes an engineer, so it's cute to picture him and Zelda occasionally getting to travel around New Hyrule without worrying about an impending threat. It would be a nice chance for Zelda and Link to play music/sing together, too.
Reblogging is fine, but please don't post this anywhere else without linking the original post. Thanks!

A Queen's Choice
Day 2 of zelink week, hosted by @zelinkcommunity, for the prompt 'Forbidden.'
Also on A03: Here
At first, it was easy to forget that Tetra was royalty. They were just Link and Tetra, sailing into new territory to find a place to build a New Hyrule. After the fight against Ganondorf and returning Aryll to Outset, Link had felt restless at the idea of staying behind and jumped at the chance to join Tetra’s crew.
Friendship became something else halfway through their journey, at least for Link, it was hard to tell with Tetra. But he noticed her eyes watching him more, her hand brushing his when there was no need to touch, and the pink that tinged her cheeks when he caught her staring.
It was only after they had settled into an established New Hyrule that they could spend any time alone. Tetra would invite him to explore the area around the castle, which was more like trading fort than anything, and insisted on holding his hand.
“So you won’t get lost”
It was after one of these expeditions that Link overheard some of the new politicians talking about proper court hierarchy. One made it clear that Link, even after helping save the world, was just a common boy from Outset and disapproved his closeness with Queen Zelda. At first, Link thought it was the use of ‘Zelda’ instead of Tetra that made his stomach twist. It was later that night, when the words were turning over in his mind as he stared at the ceiling, that Link realized what had bothered him.
Never had he heard of a queen marrying a commoner in any of the stories his grandmother told or in the histories of the old kingdoms brought to their growing library. Plenty of common girls were chosen by princes to live happily ever after, but even common-born heroes faded back into obscurity after their adventures while queens would marry some nobleman.
Link did not want to fade into the background while Tetra married someone else. He wanted to spend his days with Tetra; exploring, goofing off, even learning how to run a kingdom and the boring politics were better by her side. Just the thought of someone else doing those things with her made his stomach clench. Those thoughts circled his mind for the rest of the day and into the evening. Sleep was unrestful that night, the weight of his thoughts waking him up fitfully.
“Hey, aren’t we supposed to be looking for resources or whatever excuse we concocted to get out today?” Tetra asked.
When he only nodded, Tetra sighed and threw her hands into the air.
“Alright, fess up, what’s got you so focused that Nico could sneak up on you?”
Link fidgeted, thinking about the ways he could say what was on his mind without labeling their relationship. He knew how he felt about Tetra. How Tetra felt about him, Link wasn’t so sure. He’d never told her about his budding feelings during their time at sea. Their friendship was too important to ruin with something Tetra might reject.
“Isn’t it forbidden or something for a commoner to hang around a queen so much?” Link blurted, unable to swallow his anxiety.
“That’s what’s been bugging you? I can hang around anyone I want to, and if anyone thinks otherwise than that’s too bad,” Tetra said laughing, “besides, I like our time together outside of the castle.”
“I don’t think queens are allowed to be with just anyone and I’m just some guy from Outset Island,” Link said, making sure Tetra would understand his concern.
Instead, she just scoffed and rolled her eyes.
“I’m a pirate captain and now the queen of New Hyrule; I’m pretty sure I can marry some guy from Outset Island if I want.”
Link felt many things at once at her words. His stomach twisted in a knot, his heart stopped then started beating much faster, and his face flushed with heat. Marry him. He had not said anything about marrying Tetra, and yet she had said…
“You want to marry me?”
Pink tinged Tetra’s face and for the barest second her Link saw her bravado slip. It was only brief, before she composed her features into a confident smile.
“You thought you could escape me, huh? Well too bad! You’re the only one I’d want to marry, so why not? And I know those stuffy politicians will start bugging me about that soon.”
He could feel the goofy smile spreading across his face and didn’t try to stop it. Which only deepened the blush on Tetra’s cheeks.
“I mean, I can’t force you or anything, if you really wanted, I’ll drop you back on Outset and leave you alone. Nothing has to-”
“I’ll marry you.”
Link’s words seemed to leave the ever-confident captain speechless. She spluttered a little, her blush turning into a blotchy red flush down her neck. He found it, as he did with however she looked, quite attractive.
“There’s a proper way of doing this, I didn’t even ask!”
“Didn’t you just say that you’re the queen and you can marry me if you want to?”
“That wasn’t a proposal!”
“In that case,” Link said, kneeling before Tetra, “will you marry me?”
Tetra stilled, staring at him with a look in her eyes that Link had come to love almost as much as the woman looking at him.
“You’re serious?”
“Of course, I love you.” The confession was simply said, as if Link regularly spoke those words every day. In a sense, he supposed he had in other ways, which only made it so much easier to say it plainly.
Tetra’s mouth opened and shut, eyes never leaving his face. As the silence stretched, Link’s knee began to hurt, and he wondered if he should stand up or stay kneeling. Perhaps it had been a mistake to tell her his feelings, or perhaps Link had mistaken her friendship for romantic affection? Nerves twisted his gut for the second time that day as he waited for a response.
“Stand up.”
Link blinked; not sure he had heard correctly over the beating of his heart.
“I said, stand up.” Tetra’s face gave nothing of what she was thinking away.
“Your knee was hurting, wasn’t it?” Tetra asked, moving towards him.
Nodding, Link watched as Tetra came to a stop just a step away. Something had shifted in Tetra’s face as she moved, a determined glint paired with mischief. Suddenly, her face was a hair away from his, and her breath ghosted against his lips as she spoke.
“I love you too.”
Wrapping his arms around Tetra’s waist, Link spun them around in a half circle before his knee buckled. Laughing, Tetra tried to untangle herself from their half-tipped over state unsuccessfully, as Link kept her pressed to his chest.
“And I’ll marry you too, I don’t see anyone better coming along anytime soon.” Tetra’s face was pressed into his shoulder, but Link could still feel the wide smile on her face that matched his own.

Chapter 4: In Another Life
They have an evening alone, just them, after a long day’s work, so they steal away to Tetra’s cabin to keep it that way. Although too tired to do much but lay down, Link’s still happy about the time spent with the captain. It’s moments like these that he looks forward to: just being together, maybe talking, maybe not; perhaps kissing is involved at some point, perhaps sleep finds them easily, and perhaps that sleep lasts until first shift. Any way it happens, it’s time that he cherishes.
Because they’re so exhausted, Link expects an early shut eye when Tetra, laying beside him, her head on his shoulder, starts an interesting conversation.
“Do you ever think about different possibilities in life?” she asks sleepily.
Link blinks slowly. “What do you mean?”
“Just that… what if the Great Flood never happened? Or what if there still was a kingdom that never fell?” Tetra traces an unseen pattern on Link’s shirt. “You think we’d’ve found each other in different times?”
He thinks on it, remembering what he was told about his old shield as a child. “My ancestors had been kn-knights for the Royal Family before the Flood.” His hand joins hers, causing her to look at him. “But… I didn’t think you luh-liked thinking about that sort of thing.”
Tetra stops her pattern to thread her fingers with his. “I don’t like it, but… I still wonder, sometimes.” She doesn’t like to be reminded of her lineage, her birthright as a princess to a long lost kingdom, so that she’s bringing it up unprompted is rather odd. “I mean, there are stories about princesses of the past being involved with soldiers and knights…”
“Are you reading romance novels without me?!”
“It’s non-fiction, it’s historical!” Tetra swats him gently. After Link stops laughing, she continues: “I just wonder if… that could have happened, if it was us.”
Link hums, imagining the two of them in a long forgotten kingdom. “If it’s us, I could see it, buh-being a knight. Falling for the princess I’d sworn to protect with my life.” Like I do now is unsaid on purpose, because:
“Never mind, I don’t like that,” Tetra mumbles.
“I know,” Link affirms.
She moves up to look at him. “You know that’s not what you’re for, right?”
“I know,” he repeats, a gentle smile appearing on his face as he strokes her hair. “We protect each other. I mean, how many t-times have you saved my ass?”
To his relief, Tetra smiles back. “I lost count.” When she lays back down, he presses his mouth to her head, his solemn vow to her still unspoken. She has more to say, though. “Do you think we’d have still met if I hadn’t come to your island?”
“Oh, maybe,” Link says, suppressing a yawn, “because I know I w-would’ve left eventually. We could have run into each other.”
“As rival sailors, perhaps?” says Tetra with a smirk. “Constantly racing each other to the next big treasure?”
“That’s… wild to think about,” Link muses. “But, yes, and I’d let you win once in a while.”
“You would not, you liar.” Tetra’s laughing a bit, ending with a sigh. “I could see us sailing the sea for years, honestly. Us and the crew, searching for treasure and causing trouble.”
“For years, huh? You think we’d s-settle down after having enough of swashing our buckles?” Link’s having fun with the scenes she’s painting, he wants to know more of what she’s imagining.
Tetra takes a while to answer. “I don’t know, maybe. We could have a life on Outset,” she suggests. “You know, us, having a family like normal people.”
Link fails to hide a laugh. “That’s hard to imagine.”
Tetra reaches up to poke him. “You saying I couldn’t do it?” she asks with feigned incredulity.
“I didn’t say that, I said I couldn’t see it, us being n-normal with a couple kids,” Link assures, but it’s not entirely true: in his head, for a fleeting moment, he sees a scene of them as a family, of what could have been, in another life.
It’s gone just as quickly when he feels Tetra’s head shift on his shoulder. “I’m sorry I can’t give that to you,” she says softly.
The words hit, and Link moves to make her look at him. “Give what?”
Tetra shifts nervously. “You know, a normal life. Peaceful, quiet, on your island.” She looks down as Link feels his expression harden, very slightly but still noticed. “I just feel like I took that choice from you…”
“What makes you think I want that?” Link asks, not unkind.
“Don’t you?” Tetra’s up again, level with Link’s eye, the question hanging in the air between them.
He’d be lying if he said he hadn’t thought about it, mostly because he figured that’s what would happen when he was growing up. But, that was until Tetra literally fell onto his island - a catalyst that changed everything he thought he knew and showed him a world away from the little bit of rock he lived on. Truly he always wanted a life of adventure, and he got that and he loves every part of it.
But did he think about the what if’s? Of course he had, here and there: a pretty thought of a regular life on a quiet island, maybe Outset or maybe not; perhaps he would become a fisherman like his father and grandfather, perhaps he would have a wife and children, and perhaps that wife could have been Tetra. Sure, it entered his mind once or twice.
But, all it is: a thought.
Link’s focus comes back to the cabin and Tetra is still looking at him, waiting for his answer. Here, he feels the warmth and weight of her and he feels her hair through his fingers, and oh: when he goes to kiss her, she kisses him back, and he knows she’s here and she’s real beside him.
After they part, he tells her: “I like this life, here and now, with you.”
It takes a moment, but Tetra’s expression finally changes to a small smile. She doesn’t ask if he means it - because he does! And she knows that - and she lays back down beside him, as they were.
“Me, too.”
It’s quiet for a little while longer, and Link’s on the edge of sleep when Tetra stirs him awake.
“So… a couple kids, huh?”
He considers. “Why? You want more?”
Tetra hums. “Let’s hear you say that when you’re the one having them.”
“Fair enough,” Link concedes, yawning. “All that imagination, and you somehow c-can’t see a life with eight kids?”
“Don’t push your luck, bud.” Tetra still smirks when she says it, poking him again. They poke each other and laugh together until they’re a tired mass of tangled limbs, Tetra’s head back in the swoop of Link’s neck. He thinks about how perfectly she fits there, and how lucky he is to know that, as he finally drifts off to sleep.

Leave It In The Sun, a Wind Waker Fan Comic
This comic was made in 2021 for @zelink-fanzine. I spent a lot of time in 2020 playing wind waker and listening to the beach boys and i wanted to make something that captured the feeling. I really love Tetra and I really don't love how she gets sidelined in the third act of the game so I wanted to take it in a route that felt more like Tetra. I spent a long time on this comic and the composition and textures and listened to a lot of music. Specifically the dress pose on page 2 and the spiral mural on page 3 were the hardest parts of the comic by far. I wouldn't have been able to make this comic without the friends I talked to on the discord phone while making it. Pretty much every part of this comic I can look at something and remember the conversation I had while drawing that specific thing. I really felt an impulse to "Prove Myself" with this one, and I'm really glad I did! it had a really warm reception and made me feel like I Did It, if you know what i mean.
The name "Leave it in the Sun" is a reference to a Jeff Rosenstock song of the same name. The whole album "NO DREAM" was a really big part of giving me the energy to finish this comic but this song was specifically the big one to me. It may not have been intentionally written to be a love song but i just find the lyrics soo romantic and triumphant. Since this whole comic was about reinterpreting meaning from old texts I felt like it was the only thing I could name this comic! The main part was like
If you knew that I think about you every single day
would it make you feel like I'm too much for you?
Or would you kinda wanna say
"You don't have to feel that way
I've been trying not to think about you too."
To any who are interested here's a big youtube playlist of the music i listened to while making this. honestly was pretty useful! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwEKjLDquWHV9QsmbiK9qN_Rtf9C7Fc8j
Special thanks to Ria, Marty, Gabes, Lilly, Fizz, Becksa, Kram, Step, Maddy, Iz, and the zelink zine people. Everyone else helped a lot but without Ria I wouldnta got past the first thumbnail sketch..shoutout ria

WW Link was raised on a tiny little island by his grandmother, with his closest in age peer being his baby sister. Both his grandmother and the two old men on the island taught him on stories of past Heroes and knightly valor. The only other family on the island has two little toddlers who adore and follow him around as if he hung the stars. This boy was raised to be a gentleman who helps everyone without hesitation, a perfect example of ideal knightly chivalry, protecting and caring for women, children and the elderly.
And then the day he enters adolescence, filled with stories of the Hero saving his Princess and the kingdom, he meets a girl his age for the first time in his life, captured and in danger just like the damsels in distress from his stories.
And she instantly starts bullying him
Because Tetra was raised by pirates who obey her every command without hesitation. This girl is half feral, will stab unprovoked, and has probably never heard the words 'manners' or 'no' in life. For all her ignorance of her lineage, she is still a spoiled princess, just instead of proper tutors and nursemaids at her beckon call she has a rowdy crew of pseudo uncles and brothers that are trying their best to raise this little girl but are still pirates. She says "I'm bored. Let's fight a sea monster!" and they gleefully say "Yes Miss Tetra! Here's your sword!" without hesitation.
And Link falls in love, with this feral gremlin, who thinks it's funny to shoot him out of a catapult, across open ocean, face first, into a wall, of a heavily armed enemy fortress.
And once their adventure is done, his little sister decides this is her new rolemodel.
And now Link is the Hero and Tetra is the Princess, and they're tasked with re-founding the kingdom of Hyrule.
And I really want to see more of their dynamic in this lifetime than we see in their two games. I want to see Grandma's reaction to meeting the Princess that her grandson loves and granddaughter idolizes. I want to see him attempting to woo her using how he was taught to treat people, and her just being so confused by all this sappy softness. I want to see the kingdom of Hyrule that was founded by a fierce Pirate Queen and her tender gentleman Hero, before it was stabilized by any future generations. Because the dichotomy of their upbringings has such comedic potential that is not utilized enough.

🩷 Zelda and Link doodle pages 🩷
I used the dip pen again for once!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Program: Ibis Paint X
Time Elapsed (Classic): 1 hour, 30 minutes
Time Elapsed (Wind Waker): 2 hours, 33 minutes
Time Elapsed (Skyward Sword): 2 hours, 17 minutes
Time Elapsed (Four Swords): 2 hours, 23 minutes
It's been a while since I last used the dip pen, so I've done these in the past few weeks to mess around with it. Here are some small Zelda and Link pages with headcanon designs. Classic Link and Zelda are based around their official art, WW Link's hero's tunic is to match the pirate-y vibe subtly, Tetra's dress is intended to look more ocean-like, SS Zelda is based on her concept art, SS Link is a combination of his two outfits, and FS Link is meant to have little patches where he had to tear fabric from his tunic to patch up the tunics of his counterparts when they were injured to show their presence as different parts of him.
Reblogging is fine, but please don't post this anywhere else without linking the original post. Thanks!

Zelink Week '22 Day One: One Last Look
WW and ST Zelink
@zelinkweekofficial
“What’s taking you so long? It better not be cold feet, because if it is I’ll have you keelhauled.”
Link managed to crack a grin despite himself—though he couldn’t quite drag his gaze away from the mirror.
“You wouldn’t keelhaul your own husband, now would you?”
“You’re not my husband yet,” Tetra said archly. “The ceremony will be starting soon, and if you aren’t there on time, you’ll be dragging those cold feet of yours along the plank.”
Link’s grinned widened. “Aw, Tetra, you wouldn’t make the only man who stole an engagement ring for you walk the plank, now would you?”
“Don’t test me,” Tetra replied, but an answering grin was in her tone. She rapped sharply on the door to his room. “Are you decent?”
Link frowned down at his coat, tugging it self-consciously. “Isn’t it bad luck to see each other before the wedding?”
Tetra correctly interpreted that as a yes and opened the door with a sharp kick. “I’m not afraid of bad luck,” She announced grandly, striding into the room with her head held high. “If anything, bad luck flees from me with it’s tail between it’s quivering legs—farore’s blistering winds.”
Link could see her in the mirror, paused half-way through a step, staring at him with wide eyes. He felt his gut clench and twist, tighter than a sailor’s knot. Heat crawled into his cheeks, and he nervously rubbed the back of his neck. “That bad?”
Tetra blinked, then her eyes shot wide open, and she snapped her head to one side,a flush crawling across her cheekbones. “Um. No. You’re… you’re good.”
That brought the grin back to Link’s face, and he sent Tetra a glance up and down of her own outfit.  “You don’t look half bad yourself.”
“Of course I don’t,” Tertra said confidently, before fixing the hero with a determined eye. “So what has you looking so glum over there?”
Link’s grin faded, and he turned back to the mirror, running a hand anxiously through his hair.
“Do… do you think he’d be proud?”
Tetra’s expression softened, but Link didn’t notice, too absorbed with examining his own reflection.
“I don’t know anything about being a King, and here I am, trying to follow in his footsteps. How could I possibly ever… measure up?”
Arms slid around his waist, and a chin came to rest on his shoulder; a warm, comforting weight.
“You just do as you’ve always done.”
Link blinked, meeting Tetra’s gaze in the mirror. For once, the pirate queen’s expression was almost solemn, with only a faint smile lifting the corners of her mouth. “King Daphnes isn’t the first figure of ancient history you’ve followed after, you know. This isn’t your first voyage, hero. You wanna make him proud? Set your own course and do your best. Besides, you have my own glorious self as Queen, so it’s not like you’re doing this alone.”
She squeezed a little tighter, leaning her head against his cheek, her smile deepening. “Don’t worry, he’s already proud of you.”
Link reached down, laying his hands over hers and squeezing gently. “You sure?”
Tetra sniffed. “Of course I’m sure. Triforce of wisdom, remember? I know everything.”
“Wisdom isn’t the same as knowing everything, you know.”
“Walking the plank is still an option, sailor.”
“You won’t make me walk the plank.” Link said confidently. Tetra narrowed her eyes, arching a dangerous eyebrow.
“What makes you so sure?”
With a quick movement, Link slipped around in her arms, bending down and stealing a kiss. After a long, enthusiastic moment, he pulled back, a satisfied smirk of his own on his face. “If I walk the plank, you won’t be getting any more of those.”
Tetra blinked, slightly dazed, which caused Link’s smirk to deepen. “…good point.”
There was a chime of bells, and they both jumped, shooting suddenly nervous gazes at each other.
“That’s our cue.” Tetra said, straightening her shoulders and patting down hairs Link had disturbed during their kiss a moment before.
“You’re just eager to have someone to delegate all the boring ruling stuff to.”
Tetra grinned, shrugging easily as she turned towards the door. “What can I say? Gotta be some perks in being Queen Regnant.” She put her hand on the knob, glancing back over her shoulder. “Coming, hero boy?”
Link cast one last look at the mirror. His coat was cut in lines reminiscent of a king he knew once, and yet the colors were his own, green edged with regal gold. He grinned, straightened his coat with a tug, and turned to his queen. “Let’s get this ship sailing.”
~.~.~.~.~
One Hundred Years Later~
“You can come in.”
The Hero of Spirits nervously poked his head around the door. The princess was standing in front of a mirror, frowning nervously at her reflection, so he took that as a cue to step into the room. “What’s wrong, your highness?”
The princess sent him a frown. “It’s Zelda, Link, we’ve talked about this.”
Link grinned. “Then, what’s wrong, Zelda? The coronation’s going to start soon.”
Zelda turned back to the mirror, fidgeting nervously with her hands. “Oh… I don’t know.” She shrugged helplessly. “Grandmama and Grandpapa were such great rulers… how am I supposed to live up to them?” Her voice dropped to a whisper. “How can I know if they’d be proud of me?”
Link blinked. “Oh, is that all?”
Zelda shot him a glare. The hero paled, frantically waving his hands. “No, I didn’t mean it like that! I mean—It’s just… you’ve already been doing an amazing job. You’re only going to be even more amazing as a queen, I just know it! Of course they’d be proud of you.”
Zelda blinked at him, a bright smile slowly spreading across her face, like the sun emerging from behind a cloud. Link felt his heart skip a beat at the sight, and he prayed he wasn’t blushing too noticeably.
Then she bounced forward and pressed a kiss against his cheek, and any hopes of his blush fading went out the window. Zelda bounced on, however, energy and excitement replacing her earlier nervousness.
She stopped in front of the door however, glancing over her shoulder, biting her lip. “You’re sure they’d be proud?”
Link snuck one last look at the spirits that stood to one side, a pirate queen and her hero king, who smiling fondly and so, so proudly at their granddaughter.
“Yeah, I’m sure.” Her answering smile was even more brilliant than before. “Then let’s get this train running.”
