Unravel Two
Tumblr media
How many players? 1 to 2 What console(s) is it available on? PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC
Up until now, every game I’ve reviewed has been very exaggerated and animated with cartoon art (with the exception of Rock of Ages II, whatever that is). That changes with Unravel Two, a far more sombre affair with realistic graphics where you play as a pair of Yarnies, yarn dolls rendered so realistically that you could practically feel their very fibres if you touched the screen (although please don’t; there are enough fingerprints on it already).
Tumblr media
The central gameplay mechanic around which all else revolves is the thread that connects each Yarny. With it, you can loop around objects in the environment, tether to objects, swing like Spider-Man, make bridges and trampolines, lift up your partner, and generally do everything you can to solve puzzles and keep going right until you can’t no more, you beautiful grandma’s gift, you!
Tumblr media
With the sombre tone and realistic graphics comes an emotional and heartfelt story about… actually, I don’t really know. I played through the game with my mum and we had no clue what was going on. The most we could figure out was that there were two kids running. Given the heartbreaking violin playing, they were probably running from as opposed to towards something. Music was great, though, much like the graphics. In general, my mum and I had plenty of fun solving the challenging puzzles when she wasn’t failing to swing across a gap ten times in a row.

I LEARNED TO CROTCHET TO MAKE CROWLEY STUFF
I'm so normal about Crowley maggots I swear. But I wanted a black beanie (I always wear those) with yellow Crowley eyes on the front 🥺 and so I decided to. Well. Learn to crotchet so that I could make one.
ANYWAY so @singalongpoppet and @bat-plus-moth-equals-both took me under their yarny wings and taught me today AND LOOK GUYS THIS IS THE FIRST SHAPE I MADE. IT'S THE BASIC RECTANGLE BUT NATURALLY I FUCKED UP AND IT TAPERED COZ I MISSED A STITCH. THEN I REALISED IT LOOKS LIKE A MAGGOT. SO I ADDED EYES AND A MOUTH. but poorly so when you turn it over you see an eldritch mess of knot and thread that look vaguely like a face but totally normal from the front. Kind of like the good omens fandom pretending to be normal while burning on the inside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOOK MY FIRST CROTCHET THING AND IT'S YOU ALL!! I MADE A LITTLE MAGGOT! SCREW ADULTHOOD I'M DOING ARTS AND CRAFTS AND IT'S THANKS TO CROWLEY.

“Mulled Wine” colourway to get you in the mood for the festive season. This weekend at @yorkshireyarnfest will be the first yarny party of the holidays and also my last show of the year. Be sure to be there if you would like to see my work in person.
Yarn shows are full of tiny businesses and times are tough but you can help because you are savvy enough to know that big corporations artificially inflate their prices prior to Black Friday to make their “discounts” look good, and offer low quality and senescent stock on sale.
Shopping small helps you avoid their traps and your home doesn’t get filled with environmentally toxic plastic tat. We also appreciate your custom far more and you can be sure I spend my earnings on things like food and school uniforms rather than a second yacht.
One final thing. If you’re coming to the show, please bring cash if you can. The card processing company charge 1.69% and they don’t deserve it because they didn’t dye the yarn. Imagine how much they skim off the pool of money that we share and redirect into the coffers of the 1% every day!
Of course, we also have two card machines and welcome all buyers equally, so if anyone was hoping to get offended that a woman expressed an opinion then I’m sorry to disappoint. Bringing cash is supererogatory, but it’s also a great way to keep track of your spending if you have a set budget.

“But Moose how much could qiviuk yarn cost?”
Hoarse laughter
My good yarn friends. My fellows who know nothing about how this yarn is made. My bad bitches.
437 yards is over 300 dollars
This yarn is made from the undercoat of a muskox and the mill that makes it in my province gets that undercoat out by hand
And I want to make so many yarny things out of it

The Curse of the Love Sweater
Read it here!
Written by: HisBeloved (fyeahsterek72/droppedstitches72
With Art by: delete-risks
Rating: E (56K, human au, yarn store au, knitting au, YouTuber Stiles, knitwear designer Derek, so much fluff, explicit sexual content, prepare to get diabetes it’s so sweet)
Excerpt:
“Welcome to Lucky Ewe! On Lucky Ewe, my best friends Scott and Erica and I talk about yarn, knitting, crochet, and all other things yarnie!  Lucky Ewe is a community yarn shop in Beacon Hills, California and we like to think of ourselves as the neighborhood hangout for the crafty types.  We do online orders, too; you can find our web address below and in the show notes!”
“I'm Stiles, this is my best friend in the entire world, stepbrother, and co-owner, Scott McCall - Scottie, I’m so happy you could join us today!  Scott’s a veterinarian, too, so he doesn’t have all the time in the world, and we’re so happy when he can join us!  And to my left is my sister-from-another-mister Erica Reyes, fellow shopkeeper, fellow knitter, Super Friend!”
...
Taking a deep breath, Stiles turned to Scott and said, “So, what did you do this weekend Scott?"
For just a moment, Scott looked like he’d been caught doing something that he wasn’t supposed to do. “Um, yeah, Ali and I went out again.  She’s amazing.  And I met her dad, who is terrifying, and his husband, who sort of looked like he wanted to eat me?”
“Well, you are sexy in a lifetime friends sort of way,” Stiles commented, Erica nodding her head in agreement.  “So why the look that you’d been caught?  We love Ali!  She’s been coming here for years; it’s about time you two started dating.”
Looking at the camera, Erica said, “They’ve been mooning disgustingly over each other forever.”
“Like you’re not naming our sale codes after Boyd,” Scott countered, smiling with affection.
“Don’t avoid the question, Scottie.  You know I’ll drag it out of you eventually,” Stiles said.
“Well, the easiest way to meet both her dad and stepdad was - well, see, Peter, her stepdad ..”
“Peter Hale, folks, famous vintner behind Wolf’s Head Wines and SUUUUPER loaded,” Stiles supplied.
“Yeah, him.  He hangs out at his nephew’s store a lot.” Scott replied, looking at his hands, which he was wringing underneath the table.
“His nephew being Derek Hale?  The same Derek Hale who runs The Hale Yarn Company?” Erica challenged, looking aghast.
“It’s not like you haven’t been there a hundred times, what with Boyd working there,” Scott argued back.
“Yes, but you said, and I quote, ‘I will never step foot in The Hale Yarn Company,’ and then Stiles said that was ridiculous, that you could go wherever you wanted, and then you said that Claudia had a good reason for not liking them even though no one knows what that reason was and also that it was in Cottonwood Valley and Cottonwood Valley makes you feel like you should buy a better car and they only have Whole Foods for groceries which is way too expensive and no good fast food...”
“Which, folks, means that they don’t have Panda Express,” Stiles interrupted.
“Panda Express is the bomb,” Scott mused with a smile.
“It’s all about the orange chicken,” Stiles contributed.

Yarny YouTube reccomendations
So I like watching yarncraft-y videos while I do my own yarny crafting (because if I watch them when I'm not crafting it'll just make me want to craft and procrastinate on work and that ain't good), and I kinda just wanted to give out some yarny channel reccomendations especially since some of these channels are on the smaller side and deserve more views
Now I want to give out a disclaimer that I really like watching videos about people making things, like, "I wanna make X item, come with me to make the thing and let's see what might go wrong". I'm not really into podcasts that much, nor am I into tutorials. There are great channels that do fantastic videos that fall into those two categories, but since they're not the kind of videos I personally enjoy watching, I'm not including them. These are my reccomendations based on my preferances, nothing objective etc
BTW I've linked the videos I'm reccomending on this video in the channel names so if you want to go watch the video immidiately, no need to go looking for them, already there
Michelle Jasek
Tumblr media
(Formerly known as Fancy Dinosaur Tea Party) Absolute Queen, has a funky vintage style that makes her crochet creations super interesting, and makes the exact type of videos I love. Her videos are the backbone of my crochet video needs.
She does also make thrifting and sewing videos and other content, and all of it is great, but man, those crochet videos just hit different
Kayla (Alt Knots)
Tumblr media
Kayla does a lot of haul-type videos, reviewing yarns and hooks and those are the videos I go to them for. They also do occassional DIY projects (with an alt twist for my fellow gothically inclined friends) and tutorials, just a lot of community content, like if you enjoy having crochet-alongs or watching movies or chatting streams or doing book clubs while crocheting, Kayla has you covered, they do a lot of content.
Also god damn I have never wanted an ergonomic crochet hook before but Kayla is going to singlehandedly convince to buy one from Furls sooner or later out of sheer FOMO
Retro Claude
Tumblr media
Around July of 2022, Claude uploaded this video of her sharing her yarn stash and what a Problem it had kind of become for her. In the video she goes deeper into the stash to figure out how much yarn she has and has since been uploading monthly videos in her Stash Busting series, where she tries to use up all the yarn she has.
Claude mainly does vintage knitting, some of her projects getting their own videos while others only get shown in the stash busting series. She also does (vintage) sewing and, what else can I say, her videos are great, go watch them
Shaiyeh - Witchy Knits Podcast
Tumblr media
Like I mentioned before, I'm not a podcast person really, but Shaiyeh's knits tend to have a very whimsical twist to them that appeal to my gothic ass so I can't help but to be drawn to her yarn-videos. They're very chill and cozy so I really want you go check her videos out, they're painfully underrated and she deserves way more views than she gets
Engineering Knits
Tumblr media
I'm not really a knitter but vintage knitting is just facinating and Engineering Knits does a lot of that, as well as other videos that're either knitting or vintage clothing related. Go check her out!
Wool Needles Hands
Tumblr media
Wool Needles Hands does mainly podcasts but between her podcasts she often does either pattern reccomendations (mainly for knitting) or some wonderful, extremely informative videos about yarn-related subjects, and it's those informative videos (like the one I've linked above) that I always find myself looking forward to
TL Yarn Crafts
Tumblr media
I'm sure you already know Tony, she is an Absolute Goddess and her tutorials are a godsend. But I'm not including her on this list because of her tutorials, no, she's on this list because I love watching her reviews, be it for yarn or gadgets, they're all great.
But also if you ever need any crochet tutorials, Tony has you covered, she is without a doubt the best crochet tutorial maker on YouTube and if you haven't watched her videos yet, you're missing out (which is why she's at the bottom of the list, because surely you already know her)

Are there any good resources to learn weaving? I hope to learn how to weave upholstery! Do you think this can be accomplished on a rigid huddle loom? This seems like the first loom I'd want to buy
Hi!
My first recommendation to get started with weaving would be to look for a course, craft space, or someone local who is willing to teach you. Quite a bit goes into looms and weaving before you even get to making-fabric parts of it and it's easy to get bogged down by all the new terms that you're likely to encounter in written instructions. Weaving equipment can also be pricey, so hands on course is the best way to figure out if you want to commit to buying all that.
Second best option would be to sign up for an online course, so that you'll have someone to answer your questions in real time! If anyone seeing this knows of a good online course, please share! I operate in Finland so my knowledge of what's available internationally is limited.
Third best is lots of YouTube videos - Kelly Casanova is a good one and has videos with rigid heddle looms. Ideally, you'd find someone who has same setup as you and has videos from beginning (planning a warp) to end (finishing fabric) of process, because terms, techniques and diagrams can vary regionally (or even from teacher to teacher)
Rigid heddle loom is suitable for upholstery fabric (though all my weaving is done with a countermarch - it's just what's most common here) You'll also want to study materials and weave types to make sure your fabric will withstand heavy use! When you're choosing a loom, pay attention to the number of shafts. Four will be enough for most common weave types but if you think you'll eventually want to make very complex fabrics, it might be a good idea to get six or eight.
I wish you good luck getting started and many happy weaving moments 😊

Yarnie Clickityclarvy’s Questlines: Part 1
Main Quest: Yarnie Gets Stuck Spelunking
Find Yarnie!
Tumblr media
Floofty said their “new lab tester” had been near the far side of Boiling Bay when they never showed back up. I better see what happened.
Objective: Find Yarnie in the Boiling Bay.
Dialogue: Blue for Yarnie, Orange for Journalist
Chuvák, hey! Over here!
(When you go over to her) Oh, thank grump.
This is so humiliating…can you help me get out of this hole?
1. How did this even happen? | 2. That must be uncomfortable.
(Option one chose) All I know is one second I’m wading in the water for shells, next thing you know, I’ve plugged up a random hole.
(Option two chose) Yarnie just stares at you with a “no shit” look on her face before saying option one’s dialogue.
I’ve tried pulling myself out, but it’s no use. Just do whatever you can, please.
Pull the Plug!
Tumblr media
Yarnie’s stuck fast. Brute force seems to be the only solution.
Objective: Launch three rocks at Yarnie.
Dialogue:
(After first rock hits her) Ouch! When I said “do whatever” I didn’t mean a give me a concussion!
(After second rock hits her) Prekrati-hey, I think I budged!
(After third rock hits her) Well, I definitely feel looser, but I guess it didn’t work after all-
Yarnie then slips down into the hole. You have no choice but to go into the hole as well in order to progress the quest.
Crash Landing!
Tumblr media
Yarnie could really use something to drink after being stuck in a hole for who knows how long. That Snawiny over there should do the trick.
Objective: Catch and feed Yarnie one Snawiny.
Dialogue:
1. You ok? | 2. Good thing you’re a walking cushion.
(Both opinions give same text) Heh, turns out my fur both caused the problem and saved my skin.
Wow, no wonder the sand collapsed, this is a massive sinkhole!
(At this time, a Snawiny pops out of a champagne looking rock)
Ooh, new snax here too? Wait until Floofty hears about this!
Bubble, Bubble!
Tumblr media
Yarnie thinks Bubbabees are the solution to getting out of this sinkhole. I doubt it, but it’s worth a shot.
Objective: Catch and feed Yarnie four Bubbabees.
Dialogue:
Aw, thanks for the drink! But uh, hic, I don’t think that was normal grape juice…
Hmmm, how to get outta here…hic!
Ah-ha, I’ve got an idea! Bubbles float right? Maybe if I eat some of those Bubbabees, I can just float outta here? Hic!
1. That’s not gonna work. | 2. Yarnie, pretty sure that was wine.
(Option 1 chose) Bah, you’re just doubting genius, hic.
(Option 2 chose) Really? No wonder it was so strong…
Now go and get those bees!
Toil and Trouble!
Tumblr media
Yarnie thinks these honey pods can help me get out, but it’ll be tricky. With the help of this new tool though, I think it’s possible.
Objective: Get out of the sinkhole.
Dialogue:
Ew ew ew ew ew! That was a horrible idea, now my limbs are all gross and sticking to my fur!
1. Told you so. | 2. Now what?
(Both options give same text) There’s gotta be some way outta here…hey, what’s that over there?
The two of you walk over to a Honey Plant.
A new plant, looks like…honey? Hm.
Hey…hey! What if you used this to get out! Maybe you could use this with some kinda tool?
Suddenly a Snawiny pops out of a rock, revealing a hidden tool. The way it works is kinda like the trip shot, but it doesn’t trip and instead forms bridges with combined with honey.
That’s convenient!
Sweet Freedom!
Tumblr media
That ladder near Cromdo’s hut has been useless for too long. Time to give it a job.
Objective: Bring the ladder from Snaxburg to Sweetshop Sinkhole.
Ha, yes! You’re outside! But ah, what about me?!
1. I’ve seen a ladder somewhere in Snaxburg.
A ladder? That’s perfect! Go grab it and bring it back, hurry! This sugary-sweet cave air is making me nauseous…
(After bringing and placing the ladder, Yarnie appears and climbs out of the hole.)
Never thought I’d be missing the water I was just stuck in! Thank goodness.
1. Will you come back to Snaxburg?
Will I? Of course! After today, I want nothing to do with beaches or caves for a WHILE. Da svidania!

Pre-Sweater Agreement
When I decided I would make a sweater for my partner, we made a “pre-sweater agreement.”  This was a response to the dreaded “sweater curse”, but I didn’t like the idea of calling it a “sweater prenup”.  This also isn’t something we want to try enforcing in a small claims court, so I avoided using the word “contract” in favour for “agreement.”
He is a large human being, so a sweater for him will take a long time and a lot of material.  I wanted us to be on the same page in terms of expectations.  (eg: I can’t assume that he will understand how big a deal it is to receive a handmade sweater, unless I make some effort in explaining how it’s a big deal.)
We also want to avoid resentment (eg: “You never wear it!”, “Why did you give me something I’d never wear?”, “I hate wearing it but want you to feel good”, “I feel burdened because you gave me something so expensive,” “I feel like I have to keep workng on it even though it’s become a chore,” etc) and set some general guidelines for what might be reasonable in the event of a breakup.
With some sensitive information removed, here is generally what we agreed:
-------------------------------
Time expectation
Approximately 12-18 months?  Could be more, could be less.   (note: it’s now been about 25 months, and it’s nowhere near done!)
Materials
Yarn will be about $90 after tax  I'm comfortable spending that on this project.  If (at some point when you find yourself able to) you want to contribute money for materials, I won't say no, but I am definitely not asking for money, and will also refuse any money you try to give me before you can afford to.
Washing instructions
https://www.garnstudio.com/yarn.php?show=drops-karisma
Machine wash on gentle cycle 40°C / Don’t use fabric softener / Dry Flat
Sweater ownership and breakups:
1.  If we break up before I've given you the sweater:
I don't owe you a sweater.  (I may owe you money for yarn.)
Anything more than that: we can talk about.  (It doesn't make sense to try to plan for this contingency from where we are right now.)
2.  If we break up after I've given it to you:
You would not be bound by any other agreements about the sweater, but I hope you would continue to take reasonable care of it.
Other than breakups:
You agree to:
be involved in the process: let me take measurements, provide me feedback on how something looks or fits along the way;
wear the finished sweater only when you want to, ie: please don't pity-wear it;
any time you feel moved to do so, lavish praise on my skill and labour!  (Please don't lie, but feel free to "turn up the volume" on any genuinely-felt appreciation.)
take reasonable care of the sweater: avoid staining/tearing/burning/etc (it will be washable; but like most 100% wool garments, washing is can be rough on it; better to avoid soiling in the first place);
let me know if it needs repairs--I'll see what I can do!
If at any point you have an issue with it: let's talk.
If at any point, you really can't stand the sweater any more (don't like wearing it, don't want to take care of it, or any fundamental reason that can't be fixed), please give it back, and I will repurpose the yarn.
I agree to:
be receptive to your constructive feedback and do my best to tailor the garment to your needs and desires;
work on the sweater when I am genuinely motivated to do so--if it's starting to feel like a chore, I will do something else instead;
as much as possible, be a reasonable person.  This is meant to be a gift and not a burden (eg: I agree not to guilt you into wearing it, etc).
Other:
I will probably text you photo updates every so often as I'm working.
I will happily receive sweater selfies!
-------------------------------
Things have been going well so far?  We’re still together; it’s been about 25 months, and I’m about 10% done crocheting.  But that’s also because I’ve only worked on it when I’ve felt genuinely motivated to do so.
Feel free to modify this template to your own yarny gift needs.
