The Day Tokugawa Yoshinobu Fled Osaka

On 1868年1月30日 (慶応4年1月6日), Tokugawa Yoshinobu did what no shogun is supposed to do - he fled from Osaka Castle, leaving his army behind. Perhaps he was afraid of the latest weapons and the courage of the Imperial army, but this flight weakened the standing of the Tokugawa shogunate.
