Joshua Tree near Darwin, California (2022). Yuccas (Joshua Trees) always mean "Mojave" to me. My parents took a photo of this particular Yucca brevifolia (on film, of course) three decades or more ago and sent a print of it to me back then; it hasn't changed much in all those years… (and I take a photo of it every time I drive past).

Joshua Tree National Park
East of San Bernardino and Los Angeles and north of Palm Springs is the Joshua Tree National Park, a U.S. national park. Joshua trees (Yucca brevifolia), indigenous to the Mojave Desert, are the derivation of the name. When the California Desert Protection and Conservation Act was passed by the US Congress in 1994, Joshua Tree, which was initially designated a national monument in 1936, was…

6 au 12 juin 2022
I lunched at Pie and Burger with Molly Monday then I helped her tidy up her garage so she can get her car in for the summer while she is in Chatauqua. I showed Kerry how to keep her tomatoes thinned out.
Tuesday I did more work in the garden with Dad. Then I headed over to Molly’s to finish making room in her garage then we lunched at Tartine. I finally was on my way to Palm Springs at 15.00. I arrived in good time, just two and a half hours. I still get a bit of a panic attack driving when completely surrounded by those huge sixteen-wheelers. The first thing I did when I arrived was jump in the pool. It was glorious.
Tuesday evening Dan took Lucien and me to a delicious Korean restaurant, K-Tofu House; Rod and Charlie were at a neighbour’s birthday party.
Wednesday Charlie took me around to run my errands and we went shopping for the drinks and dessert party that evening. It was a nice group of of their friends. I learned about a place called The Living Desert. I must visit next time I’m there.
Thursday morning we headed out for breakfast then I joined Charlie when he went to his weekly bowling gathering. It was a lot of fun. I came in last; however, not by much. There are scented bowling balls ! I was sad to leave Rod and Charlie’s. I headed home and again made it in just over two hours.

Friday I had brunch with Yan at Colonial Kitchen in San Marino then we had a nice walk around Lacy Park.

At 15.00 Kerry and Matthew came by to pick up Dad and me to go to the cinema to see Top Gun : Maverick ; it was very well made. That was the first film I’ve seen in a cinema in many, many years. We dropped Dad off and I had dinner with the Reilings. We went to Nikki C’s Italian restaurant on Rosemead. Mike and I enjoyed a few old fashions and we kept that going when we returned to their house to watch a film. I struggled with my third and Mike downed his then fell asleep during the film.
Saturday morning I had to return my hire car. I spent the early afternoon with the Reilings and had my last dinner with Dad and Bev. I went up to the Reiling’s for dessert.
Kerry drove me to LAX for my flight home. Thankfully it was an uneventful flight. It wasn’t as fun nor as heavy on the whisky as my flight to LA. I watched a Marvel movie and just enjoyed watching the sun just go below the horizon for a while before it was on its way up. It never got completely dark. I made it home by 16.00 Monday afternoon.
This was on my Duolingo lesson Monday:

Yucca moths (genus Tegeticula) transfer pollen between flowers to ensure seeds will form, and then they lay their eggs inside the pollinated flower; when the larvae hatch, they feed on some of the seeds and the rest are able to disperse and grow into new Joshua trees; this type of interaction, where two organisms are dependent upon each other for mutual benefits, is called a mutualistic symbiotic relationship pruning - none nomenclature - Asparagaceae - ; Yucca - ; brevifolia - NB - Joshua trees provide nesting substrate for a variety of resident birds. It is frequently the only cavity nesting substrate available. It is also important for platform nesting in the forks and on the branches for northern mockingbirds, cactus wrens, western kingbirds, great horned owls, and red-tailed hawks, while Scott's oriole are known to hang their pendulous nests from the branches. Likewise, many Mojave Desert raptors depend on Joshua trees for nesting and hunting perches. The trunks of Joshua trees are important substrate for large desert spiny lizards. Accumulated detritus of leaves and branches beneath live and dead Joshua trees provide important cover of a great variety of invertebrates, reptiles and small mammals. Joshua tree leaves are harvested and incorporated into the expansive middens of woodrats. During drought periods, jackrabbits, pocket gophers, antelope squirrels, and woodrats gnaw the periderm from Joshua trees leaving some branches looking like bare skeletons (Zweifel and Lowe 1966, Esque et al. 2003); concern exists about the ability of the species to migrate to favourable climates due to the extinction of the giant Shasta ground sloth (Nothrotheriops shastensis) 13,000 years ago; ground sloth dung has been found to contain Joshua tree leaves, fruits, and seeds, suggesting that the sloths might have been key to the trees' dispersal.

can you tell us the name of your stary fanfic?my fish is asking🤓🤓🤓
tell ur fish that unfortunately my fic isnt out yet .... and may possibly never be.... but because i love the idea in my head i will take the opportunity to talk about it!
so it actually does have a name. the working title is "yucca fantastica" which is based off the plant that is more commonly known as the joshua tree, yucca brevifolia. it's a roadtrip fic, as i might've briefly mentioned in an older post. prior to stan and gary's last minute roadtrip, the two had met months ago but only exchanged emails after. it's not until a good few months later that gary contacts stan, who's going thru a rough patch in his early adulthood rn. theres SOOO much more i have planned but man i hate writing lol!!! i'm not that good at it and have such a hard time pacing myself . weh.... maybe one day
