This is so sweet 🥲
Okay, so I had surgery today. And being the basic bookworm I am, my last thought before I went under was literally just one thing: “Rhys”. So while I was alseep all I remember is running to him and him holding me telling me that it’s going to be okay. So, yeah that was fun.
He gives great hugs by the way. 😊

Alrighty, here I go again about my wonderful High Lord of the Night Court.
**SPOILER WARNING AS ALWAYS***
Everyone wanted him for sex. Amarantha raped him for 50 years; Ianthe wanted him for her own power. No one ever wanted him for who he was until Feyre. Until she showed him that she was honored to be with such a strong individual, not because he was powerful, but because he didn’t let the things people used against him to harm who he was. He didn’t let his integrity go even when it was the easiest thing to do. He didn’t let the hard days win and I think there is something amazing in that.
Yes, he is a fictional character that I will never get to encounter, but he raised my standard for men to a realistic level.

Annotated Books
Tumblr media
Few might call me obsessive, I call it being in love with a series that speaks to my soul. I annotated my copy of ACOTAR because I wanted to relive the times where Feyre was human, when her only goal was to love a man who loved her back, before he became a monster. I’ve loved doing this and will continue with the rest of the series: and I’ll post my favorite parts of each color.
*Spoiler Warning Now* Quotes Ahead

Again with the *SPOLIER WARNING* kinda not really
Okay, idk why, but Lucien and Elain kinda make sense...
Hear me out:
Lucien is the son of a man highly sought after for sex and the High Lord’s wife of the Autumn Court. The seer amount of brutality that he faces from his half-brothers is appaulling and so he goes to one place: the Spring Court, flowers and beauty galore. A place where he can lay in the fields and never have to worry that he’s going to be attacked or mistrusted.
Then we have Elain, sweet pure Elain. She gardens to escape her reality, even if no one really pays attention to it. She gardens all the time to be able to express herself safely and protect herself from the horrors others have put her through.
They both see the flowers as their safe place from the hurt, pain, and tortures others put them through. They deserve a shot.
Now, I’m not saying Az doesn’t deserve someone like Elain. He has gone too much of his immortal eternity being rejected by the ones he should have been loved by (Mor is a different story), so he deserves someone who will love him unconditionally from the very beginning. Someone to embrace the shadows he clings to, the secrets he ties to himself, and while I would love to say that can be Elain: the mother of the cauldron (Mrs Maas herself) has deemed otherwise and we need to wait like Rhys would for Feyre until the right person for our sweet Az to come along.
This is just my personal opinion and if I could I would be Azriel’s mate myself, but we can’t always get what we want.

*SPOILER WARNING*
Okay, so in ACOTAR Tamlin tells Feyre when she’s pleading with him on how to save him “What I have to face, what I have to endure, Feyre. . .you would not survive.” Which we know is true, but when she doesn’t believe she can repair the cauldron in ACOWAR Rhys tells her to humor him by trying then GIVES HIS FUCKING LIFE SO SHE CAN DO IT. He doesn’t tell her she can’t or that it will kill him. No he supports her all the way, and that’s the fucking difference.

This is probably the most relatable thing ever
I don't wish book characters were real
Bcz
I know they wouldn't choose me even if they were real
Everyone has their own perspectives of them and their looks
If they were real they'd probably be mega celebrities and wouldn't even know you exist
And I like love to think that everyone has someone special ( a book character) that helped them through difficult times

Regarding “if you want to write origfic, read something besides fanfiction” - I agree, but I would take it further.  If you want to write in a particular subgenre, read the stuff that inspired it, not just in the subgenre itself.
If you want to do Tolkienesque fantasy, don’t stick to Tolkien and his imitators, read some mythology, epic poetry, and medieval romances.  (And depending on which specific aspects you want to emulate, possibly WWI veterans’ memoirs and/or an introductory linguistics textbook.)  If you want to write in the footsteps of Terry Pratchett, read some folklore and English comic novels and nonfiction about daily life in different historical times and places. Sherlock Holmes pastiches? Other mystery fiction of the era and Victorian true crime.
I think something like this is one of the reasons the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy was so underwhelming, despite a great cast and some potentially interesting ideas.  Star Wars has always been derivative as heck, but the original at least combined elements that weren’t commonly found together in the pop culture of the time (space opera, fairy tales, Chinese martial arts fantasy, samurai movies), so the overall combination felt fresh.  But the sequel trilogy was just riffing on earlier Star Wars.
